At quick glance that does seem pretty comprehensive. I think the DVD covers are sort of charming.

I would totally vote with utter unfair subjectivity in this. I'm so sick of Pulp Fiction and Goodfellas that they wouldn't make it onto my list.

I think there's a lot to be said for entertainment for its own sake. Does Ghostbusters really say a lot about the human condition? No. Is it something that I would gladly watch pretty much anytime? Absolutely. Art has different functions, yo. So, yeah, I think listing your favorite movies is totes valid.

this came up on another thread, but apparently she directs the occasional tv series ep these days. the 90s in retrospect seems like a promising moment for increased presence of women in directing. i guess holofcener and bigelow have hung on, but others didn't.

speaking of which, i probably wouldn't vote for it, but every time i catch strange days on tv i have to watch it through to the end. so 90s that movie!

yeah, recently i discovered that if you look up pretty much any prominent female director from the 90s on imdb, you'll find that they do most of their work in TV now - anders, harron, bird, it goes on. not that there's anything wrong with TV, its better than not working at all, but it's hard not to think that they would've gotten more opportunities to do features if they were men...

When the producers were looking for technicians to work on the movie, several trade
publications including DAILY VARIETY refused to run the "help wanted" ads until the
word "fart" was removed from the ad copy. The ads were accepted only after the title
was changed to "Windbreakers".
