How does Twitter work in 'celeb-world'?

Cheryl Cole, for example, must get tons from the mass-population, of varying degrees of niceness or not.

Whereas Will-I-am sends her a message, presumably that one would get straight through.

Is there some sort of magical forwarding? Or is it more that they have a 'real' one of unguessable alias, and their 'offices' read the 'public' twitter account, and filter out the dumb from the 'interesting' for these celebs, and forward on those select few?
