Chocolate chip seems completely uncontroversial.

Tiger Tail and Bubblegum are two raves, but I imagine them being divisive.

I Fucked Up (jer.fairall), Tuesday, 13 March 2012 20:17 (thirteen years ago)

that's some brand i've never heard of up above. i was searching for shur-fine ice cream. i think shur-fine actually makes those too. they churn out tons of ice cream for chains all over the country.

really wanna know how the whole "moose tracks" phenomena got started. and turtles too.

scott seward, Tuesday, 13 March 2012 20:17 (thirteen years ago)

fudge IS freedom, so kinda redundant to call something "freedom fudge". but i do like the philly angle.

Bubblegum is totally fucked up. Don't understand how you're supposed to chew gum AND eat ice cream at the same time.

breyers mint chip is kinda one of my favorite things but in general i don't buy any other breyers cuzza the whole ice milk consistency. this consistency works wonderfully with mint chip, however. kinda chalky but in a good way.

scott seward, Tuesday, 13 March 2012 20:32 (thirteen years ago)

I adore peppermint but it's almost imposh to find except during the holidays (although someone on some thread tried to get me to believe a small regional company makes it year round, but they're in like MN or something?).

My all-time fave is Hudsonville Double Chocolate Almond, but no one else makes it.

Back at Christmas, Great Lakes Brewing Co. here in Cleveland teamed up with a local ice cream place, Mitchell's, to make an ice cream from their annual Christmas Ale, with ginger snaps in it. It was soooooooo good. Another local place has been selling a chocolate ice cream made with Left Hand Milk Stout that's pretty good.

Anyway, mint chocolate chip is OK, but all in all I'd still rather have a really, really well-made vanilla. With a little honey on it.

Mint Chip is probably my favorite. Actually there is this place (or about 100 places tbh) here that do soft serve mixed with toppings of your choice and my fav is vanilla with Peppermint Patties mixed in. I <3 peppermint patties so much.

Tonight at the supermarket I saw carrot cake ice cream. I did not buy it but I was definitely intrigued.

Is 'frozen pudding' a flavor anywhere in the world besides New England? It is rum flavored, with raisins, candied cherries, candied pineapples, maybe even some nuts.

the best flavours readily available probably pistachio then coffee (haagen dazs' baileys ice cream is a cousin)

If there's a prayer of a chance for any flavor to get universal accolades, it would have to be vanilla. Still, given what (who?) ilxors are, universal accolades for anything whatsoever seems like a wistful dream.

Nah I'm just being enthusiastically hyperbolic (on the internet, I know! who knew?!), but really I think it's cos I don't have that sweet tooth. I can crave sweet stuff if it tastes LIKE something else but caramel is not flavorful enough apart from just being more sugar.

drawn to them like a moth toward a spanakopita (Laurel), Wednesday, 14 March 2012 16:11 (thirteen years ago)

Dulce de leche isn't exactly caramel, by the way. It's caramelized sweetened milk. I prefer it to basic sugar caramels most of the time.

L'ennui, cette maladie de tous les (Michael White), Wednesday, 14 March 2012 16:22 (thirteen years ago)

I like caramelized apples, onions whatever...but to me that's not the same thing as making caramel with butter sugar cream etc.

And I will clarify that caramel from scratch, put on something/in something delicious is really damn good. But caramel in icecreams, and caramel flavor is just uuuuuggggh sickly.

Peppermint Patty Hearst (VegemiteGrrl), Wednesday, 14 March 2012 16:27 (thirteen years ago)

but to me that's not the same thing as making caramel with butter sugar cream etc.

Well caramelization is the browning of sugars in all its forms, it's just the dairy that seems to irk you.

I can kind of see that since to me one of the definitions of revolting food is someone spooning sugared butter into their mouth out of a bowl.

L'ennui, cette maladie de tous les (Michael White), Wednesday, 14 March 2012 16:33 (thirteen years ago)

L'ennui, cette maladie de tous les (Michael White), Wednesday, 14 March 2012 16:34 (thirteen years ago)

Peppermint Patty Hearst (VegemiteGrrl), Wednesday, 14 March 2012 16:40 (thirteen years ago)

Yeah, I get that w ddl, 'cept plain caramel is just burned sugar.

The first Battle of the Masters involved Sakai and Flay, with the theme of trout. There, Sakai had made two dishes of note: one was gift-wrapped to commemorate the opening of Kitchen Stadium America, while the other was trout ice cream, a dish that would be repeatedly recalled and referred to later on when anyone used the ice cream maker.

BTW have you guys ever tried clotted cream ice cream? It's a specialty of south-west england. Clotted cream/ Devonshire cream is what you have on scones as a cream tea and in ice cream it's the creamiest thing imaginable.
