The draw SHOULD go live in a few minutes at this link: https://www.facebook.com/RolandGarros/app_315297695213618 but let's be honest it probably will not

This is all very exciting though... PLEASE CAN SERENA HAVE A GOOD DRAW AT THIS TOURNAMENT FOR ONCE

uberweiss, Friday, 25 May 2012 09:43 (thirteen years ago)

i remember a couple of years ago the RG draw ceremony went really smoothly and on time!

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Friday, 25 May 2012 09:46 (thirteen years ago)

I can't say I do.. is it that hard to properly test it beforehand.

abcfsk, Friday, 25 May 2012 09:48 (thirteen years ago)

I really want João Sousa (POR) to qualify and draw João Souza (BRA). Make the umpires work for their money

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Friday, 25 May 2012 09:50 (thirteen years ago)

http://www.eurosport.fr/tennis/roland-garros/2012/chat.shtml?chatid=c99db0e52f

well this is doing a text version of the live draw so that's good

uberweiss, Friday, 25 May 2012 09:51 (thirteen years ago)

Pretty tough first round for defending champion Li... she plays Cirstea

uberweiss, Friday, 25 May 2012 09:52 (thirteen years ago)

Lol Serena plays a French player first round - Razzano. Le sigh.

uberweiss, Friday, 25 May 2012 09:53 (thirteen years ago)

yasssss Serena and Maria in the same quarter

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Friday, 25 May 2012 09:55 (thirteen years ago)

Serena -Masha QF. Not watching this tournament, then.

abcfsk, Friday, 25 May 2012 09:55 (thirteen years ago)

oh COME ON like Razzano is a threat in 2012, she lost to Morita this week

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Friday, 25 May 2012 09:55 (thirteen years ago)

FUCK FUCK FUCK Mrs Krumm gets Fran. No Olympics for her then :(

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Friday, 25 May 2012 09:56 (thirteen years ago)

Azarenka/Stosur QF I believe :D That is good. Less chance for Stosur to play Serena...

uberweiss, Friday, 25 May 2012 09:56 (thirteen years ago)

Lol lex not saying she's a threat. Just saying the crowd will be even more against Serena than usuallll

Serena/Maria QF? YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS. One of the few players I wouldn't expect Serena to completely choke against in the French quarters.

uberweiss, Friday, 25 May 2012 09:57 (thirteen years ago)

Why would you not want Stosur to play Serena given the last 2 times?

Venus/A-Rad in round two. I don't know who that's good for.

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Friday, 25 May 2012 09:57 (thirteen years ago)

Because that was Miami and Charleston and this is Roland Garros.

Just like Serena beat her in Stanford and then yeah. I'd rather just not have the trouble

Venus/Rad R2? LOLLLL FINALLY NO CAKEWALK FOR A-RAD :D

uberweiss, Friday, 25 May 2012 10:00 (thirteen years ago)

Full women's singles draw: http://img6.imagebanana.com/img/zn26r77y/MD.jpg

uberweiss, Friday, 25 May 2012 10:01 (thirteen years ago)

Why do the same match-ups always happen?

abcfsk, Friday, 25 May 2012 10:01 (thirteen years ago)

Serena/Woz 4R. Nooooo :/

uberweiss, Friday, 25 May 2012 10:01 (thirteen years ago)

and Justine Henin will be commentating for French TV from the quarters onwards. So maybe for Serena/Sharapova lolz.

uberweiss, Friday, 25 May 2012 10:03 (thirteen years ago)

Federer/Djokovic, Nadal/Murray semis

uberweiss, Friday, 25 May 2012 10:04 (thirteen years ago)

wow @ Sharapova's draw to the QF, may as well be empty

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Friday, 25 May 2012 10:07 (thirteen years ago)

Well what does it matter, a QF is nothing to write home about

abcfsk, Friday, 25 May 2012 10:09 (thirteen years ago)

Praying that Kanepi beats Wozniacki in R3.

Wonder who the lucky qualifier will be who draws Cake.

Oh fuck, Barthel/Li R3. Li has the draw from hell and is not making it out of that alive :(

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Friday, 25 May 2012 10:13 (thirteen years ago)

is there a handy jpg of the men's draw yet abcfsk?

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Friday, 25 May 2012 10:14 (thirteen years ago)

lol @ you knowing i wouldn't have a jpg for the men's :/

uberweiss, Friday, 25 May 2012 10:15 (thirteen years ago)

Men's: http://a.yfrog.com/img863/572/3x7sn.jpg

abcfsk, Friday, 25 May 2012 10:15 (thirteen years ago)

ahaha no it was just cuz i misread the thread!

RG draw day is NOT the day on which to have to juggle work in an office >:(

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Friday, 25 May 2012 10:18 (thirteen years ago)

merci abcfsk

I wonder if Granola will be the one to put an end to this moronic ISNER CLAY GOAT American media hype

Noooo no chance of my Sousa/Souza match-up happening :(

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Friday, 25 May 2012 10:22 (thirteen years ago)

Why do the same match-ups always happen?

this is really bizarre and annoying yeah, though not as bad as last summer, when - just as it seemed we'd finally got rid of Stosur - she drew her bitches Bepa and Li EVERY BLOODY WEEK which probably contributed significantly to this Stosur-as-Slam-champion nonsense situation that I still can't quite believe we have to live through

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Friday, 25 May 2012 10:26 (thirteen years ago)

Since Woz beat Serena in Miami, they've been drawn as early as possible ever since (Madrid/Rome/RG) -__-

uberweiss, Friday, 25 May 2012 10:31 (thirteen years ago)

would you rather the bad old days of Woz getting a cakewalk draw every week?

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Friday, 25 May 2012 10:32 (thirteen years ago)

Apparently those are reserved for world #1s. Absolute LOL @ Azarenka's draw

uberweiss, Friday, 25 May 2012 10:35 (thirteen years ago)

Stephanie Myles ‏@OpenCourt

I don't want to jump to any conclusions but after saying hello to Papa Williams, seems clear there is Another future champion on the way

!!!!! is Lakeisha pregnant?!

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Friday, 25 May 2012 10:39 (thirteen years ago)

The upper half in general is pretty laughable

abcfsk, Friday, 25 May 2012 10:45 (thirteen years ago)

i think i want to just go into hibernation for these 2 weeks :/ i can't deal

I had never heard of the US wildcard Brian Baker. Here's a pretty good article on him: http://www.tennis.com/articles/templates/features.aspx?articleid=17768&zoneid=9

justfanoe (Greg Fanoe), Friday, 25 May 2012 12:13 (thirteen years ago)

he's in the Nice SF this week, impressive even if his big victory (over Monfils) was over a player with an injury that necessitated pulling out of RG. my pick of him is a bit of a wild flutter/reflection of how little I trust Simon and Wawrinka.

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Friday, 25 May 2012 12:16 (thirteen years ago)

uberweiss, Friday, 25 May 2012 23:57 (thirteen years ago)

Ugh I hope you are wrong, the world needs an Ivanovic SF run even less than it needs Azarenka winning another slam.

neil young & crazy town (edwardo), Saturday, 26 May 2012 04:23 (thirteen years ago)

Ivanovic has got a pretty easy route, yeah.

abcfsk, Saturday, 26 May 2012 07:40 (thirteen years ago)

Hmmm I am ever vigilant for unwanted Ivanovic revivals but Venus or Aga are about her worst 4R opponents, she's just the kind of dumb basher Aga feasts on and if it's Venus she'll just piss her pants if it gets remotely close. Wouldn't be surprised if Unforced Errani gets her first anyway.

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Saturday, 26 May 2012 09:28 (thirteen years ago)

Azarenka in the same general region as Stosur and Radwanska whom she pwns. Meanwhile, Sharapova, Serena and Kvitova on the other side of the draw. It would be too much to hope that Cibulkova grows a brain and does the job this time, right?

I anticipate Peak Shitova turning up losing early, too.

neil young & crazy town (edwardo), Saturday, 26 May 2012 22:53 (thirteen years ago)

great story in the nytimes on CAKE: http://www.nytimes.com/2012/05/26/sports/tennis/26iht-srfobartoli26.html?_r=1&ref=global&pagewanted=all

last few paras are ;_;

Roz, Sunday, 27 May 2012 04:20 (thirteen years ago)

Looking fwd to ITV4's coverage -- way more committed than the BBC.

xyzzzz__, Sunday, 27 May 2012 07:02 (thirteen years ago)

I'm on streams. But I've already seen some of Del Potro, so that's nice.

neil young & crazy town (edwardo), Sunday, 27 May 2012 13:49 (thirteen years ago)

don't think kuznetsov will be able to keep it up, but he's playing amazingly right now - takes the first set against Tsonga 6-1.

Dunno if Jo's just doing the French guy in front of a French crowd thing, but he seems really sluggish at the mo, not moving well at all.

Roz, Sunday, 27 May 2012 14:49 (thirteen years ago)

ah nvm, seems to have gotten it sorted

Roz, Sunday, 27 May 2012 15:01 (thirteen years ago)

Ormaechea *5-2 Venus

lollll

uberweiss, Sunday, 27 May 2012 17:12 (thirteen years ago)

I am amazed at the lack of Roddick schadenfreude on this thread

that is a weird thing to bring up over lean cuisine (DJP), Sunday, 27 May 2012 18:34 (thirteen years ago)

there's no point. maybe when he loses first round of wimbledon :D

uberweiss, Sunday, 27 May 2012 19:06 (thirteen years ago)

I hate myself :/ procrastinate from revision by watching frigging stosur/baltacha so it all piled up and I had to miss most of the venus match + johansson/rodionova which I can only assume was an absolute comedy for the ages

uberweiss, Sunday, 27 May 2012 19:18 (thirteen years ago)

The scoreline suggests A-Nasty gagged against Johansson. Gagging against Johansson at RG, how is that even possible. Finally Mathilde wins a match here!

Ormaechea is meant to be good, did anyone actually see the set she won off Venus? Ditto Kuznetsov/Tsonga - Roz how does Kuznetsov play?

Funniest thing about the Roddick match is seeing that he got broken multiple times by Mahut on clay. That's pretty special. Eagerly awaiting Wimbledon, hoping he's unseeded for extra humiliation points.

Dinah Pfizenmaier seems to be one to watch, she's 20 already but this time last year she was unranked because she did that German thing of staying in high school. Hit the ITFs running last year and is now winning Slam matches. Amazing name too, one of those that's particularly fun to say out loud. (I miss Angelique Widjaja.)

Ugh why did I agree to work in an office this week*, I'm not going to be able to see a single point >:(

*so that I can take the rest of the tennis season completely easily I guess

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Monday, 28 May 2012 06:57 (thirteen years ago)

re: Kuznetsov - only saw bits and pieces cause my brother was insisting on watching the F1 at the same time :/ and then I had to go do some work. Need to see more but def seems like a good ball-striker and quick to move forwards, which is always nice to see.

Ormaechea is very competitive and spirited, could be interesting.

Roz, Monday, 28 May 2012 07:58 (thirteen years ago)

It won't last, but this Brianti-Azarenka match is hilarious right now

uberweiss, Monday, 28 May 2012 09:47 (thirteen years ago)

nooooooo 5-3 to 5-5 :( Brianti had a set point and turned into a pusher. Why couldn't she have at least gotten a set :(

uberweiss, Monday, 28 May 2012 09:54 (thirteen years ago)

Great success for Mauresmo - I can't remember a recent slam where Azarenka didn't bagel her way through the first week.

abcfsk, Monday, 28 May 2012 10:05 (thirteen years ago)

dfghbkcufgbkhfcvygb

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

7-6 (6) to Brianti

FORZAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

uberweiss, Monday, 28 May 2012 10:13 (thirteen years ago)

ahahahahahaha to BRIANTI? looooool

and JaJa has just been breadsticked by PATRICIA MAYR-ACHLEITNER

and WHAT IS BARTHEL DOING OUT THERE?!

oh women's tennis you just give & give

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Monday, 28 May 2012 10:18 (thirteen years ago)

Davis def Barthel 6-1 6-1

Like... Just how?

uberweiss, Monday, 28 May 2012 10:19 (thirteen years ago)

I've been too busy watching Azarenka/Henin but apparently Barthel didn't even try. Shady.

uberweiss, Monday, 28 May 2012 10:20 (thirteen years ago)

Great success for Mauresmo - I can't remember a recent slam where Azarenka didn't bagel her way through the first week.

She's taught her well <3 Even Amelie could never with this nervy French Open performance. She must be so proud

uberweiss, Monday, 28 May 2012 10:24 (thirteen years ago)

wow is this really going to happen?

I dare not hope - I remember how lethargic and grumpy Azarenka looked in Miami before Cibulkova gagged...

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Monday, 28 May 2012 10:29 (thirteen years ago)

Is this really going to be a bagel?

Because I mean

asdgdgngfndgkj

uberweiss, Monday, 28 May 2012 10:31 (thirteen years ago)

Would hate to see A Rad given a free run to the finals.

abcfsk, Monday, 28 May 2012 10:32 (thirteen years ago)

Or Stosur :(

uberweiss, Monday, 28 May 2012 10:34 (thirteen years ago)

I can't deal with this, Blair at Leveson and having to do work at the same time

ughhhh Stosur run nooooooo

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Monday, 28 May 2012 10:34 (thirteen years ago)

Fuck a top half.

abcfsk, Monday, 28 May 2012 10:35 (thirteen years ago)

gawd even just looking at the score I can tell this multideuce 4-0 game is crucial

and I know women's tennis and how this story normally goes :/

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Monday, 28 May 2012 10:37 (thirteen years ago)

LOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL Vika how can you miss that? Like, literally how?

uberweiss, Monday, 28 May 2012 10:37 (thirteen years ago)

Oh god

Well it was a nice run whilst it lasted, Brianti

uberweiss, Monday, 28 May 2012 10:39 (thirteen years ago)

and I know women's tennis and how this story normally goes :/

here we go

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Monday, 28 May 2012 10:40 (thirteen years ago)

I was in the middle of work and didn't realise this was happening. wtf!

Roz, Monday, 28 May 2012 10:42 (thirteen years ago)

Sweet Lord

Does it HAVE to be this way? BRIANTI FOR FUCK'S SAKE COME ON NOW, LOVE

uberweiss, Monday, 28 May 2012 10:43 (thirteen years ago)

ugh why do i HAVE to tune in on the comeback?

Roz, Monday, 28 May 2012 10:44 (thirteen years ago)

this set is gonna end 6-4 azarenka isn't it? :/

Roz, Monday, 28 May 2012 10:49 (thirteen years ago)

it would have been so much fun

how pathetic do you have to be to lose 4 straight games against an azarenka who has literally probably never played worse

UGH IT WOULD HAVE BEEN SO FUN. BRIANTI I HATE YOU

uberweiss, Monday, 28 May 2012 10:51 (thirteen years ago)

I had to do some work and I have to say I am not even the tiniest bit surprised at this turn of events

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Monday, 28 May 2012 10:54 (thirteen years ago)

How can two players be this stupid? I AM SO CONFUSED

BRIANTI YOU ARE LIKE IN YOUR THIRTIES OR SOMETHING AND THIS IS YOUR BEST EVER CHANCE AND YOU ARE JUST GIVING IT AWAY?! YOU UTTER LOSER

uberweiss, Monday, 28 May 2012 10:55 (thirteen years ago)

just the BODY LANGUAGE. like, what? Azarenka showing nothing but negativity until a set and 4-0 down. Brianti showing nothing but negativity since then. AT LEAST ACT LIKE YOU STILL BELIEVE.

uberweiss, Monday, 28 May 2012 10:59 (thirteen years ago)

Tennis is such bullshit sometimes. I mean, look, Marcel Granollers is seeded 20 at a Slam. How the fuck?

:) :) beautiful slice winner from Brianti!

neil young & crazy town (edwardo), Monday, 28 May 2012 11:16 (thirteen years ago)

like lex said, not like it's surprising or anything but still... gross.

they have 100 unforced errors between them btw

Roz, Monday, 28 May 2012 11:28 (thirteen years ago)

61 unforced errors for Azarenka. And still she will win.

neil young & crazy town (edwardo), Monday, 28 May 2012 11:29 (thirteen years ago)

I mean, if not for that bullshit, barely-in smash at 2-2 40-40, who knows.

neil young & crazy town (edwardo), Monday, 28 May 2012 11:30 (thirteen years ago)

Fucking gutless.

uberweiss, Monday, 28 May 2012 11:31 (thirteen years ago)

Lots of women choke against Serena when she throws in one of her shitfests, but that's Serena, who actually is fucking good. Azarenka? What's there to be afraid of?

neil young & crazy town (edwardo), Monday, 28 May 2012 11:32 (thirteen years ago)

So after all that Azza and JaJa both win anyway. Whatevzzz

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Monday, 28 May 2012 11:35 (thirteen years ago)

xp ha i was just thinking abt that time i think a couple years ago where Vika herself choked after being up a set and 4-0 against Serena at the AO.

Roz, Monday, 28 May 2012 11:36 (thirteen years ago)

Thank heavens for that. Hopefully she'll wake up for the next round.

pandemic, Monday, 28 May 2012 11:37 (thirteen years ago)

Ed let's be real most of the women choke horribly all the time, to just about anyone, regardless of whether the opponent is any good or the match is very big. Just look at Johansson's tragic history.

ahahaha I just remembered that one RG match years and years ago when Lubomira Kurhajcova led Lisa Raymond 6-0, 5-0, 30-0. You can probably guess how that one went.

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Monday, 28 May 2012 11:39 (thirteen years ago)

xp ha i was just thinking abt that time i think a couple years ago where Vika herself choked after being up a set and 4-0 against Serena at the AO.

Vika didn't choke that.

uberweiss, Monday, 28 May 2012 11:42 (thirteen years ago)

meh you'd say that abt any Serena comeback.

Roz, Monday, 28 May 2012 11:45 (thirteen years ago)

No I wouldn't.

Vika just literally didn't choke that. Serena stepped up her game and Vika was done.

uberweiss, Monday, 28 May 2012 11:47 (thirteen years ago)

ok you know what, sorry i brought it up, not gonna argue (though you'd best look up the 2010 AO thread for a different take anyway :p)

Roz, Monday, 28 May 2012 11:55 (thirteen years ago)

Li up two breaks on Discout Ana. Defend!

neil young & crazy town (edwardo), Monday, 28 May 2012 12:01 (thirteen years ago)

Guys, when did American women learn how to play on clay?

that is a weird thing to bring up over lean cuisine (DJP), Monday, 28 May 2012 14:50 (thirteen years ago)

^^HUGE win for Stephens, definitely - wish I had seen it! less surprised by BMS - Lisicki has been injured for most of the year and isn't in good form at the moment.

Bellucci-Troicki match is hilariously WTA. Expect brainless Bellucci will screw this up.

Roz, Monday, 28 May 2012 16:07 (thirteen years ago)

^^fourth set ended with four breaks in a row, natch. and to the fifth set we go.

Roz, Monday, 28 May 2012 16:18 (thirteen years ago)

bogomolov retired down 4-5 40-AD in the 5th set against clement

what an utter twat

uberweiss, Monday, 28 May 2012 19:22 (thirteen years ago)

Amélie was on TV criticising Bogomolov for that (quite rightly). Then John Inverdale started talking about how much strength and inspiration Clément must have drawn from the home crowd and she went very silent.

Ryan Harrison is STILL an appalling little shit, it's actually quite funny because he's not even very good. Apparently he's proud of his FH, I...have no idea why. It's such a bad look to berate yourself like that just after your opponent has hit an impossibly angled BH followed by an impossible sprint to get back your dropshot.

WTF happened to Barthel? Apparently she gave a cheerful "oh well, you win some you lose some" press conference.

Li's nightmare draw has suddenly turned pretty sweet.

Latisha Chan saving her career, she had megapoints to defend here and has...almost done it!

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Monday, 28 May 2012 20:19 (thirteen years ago)

Ahaha and just after I post that I see this.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YzRnMNkrM3o

"No homo" - Ryan Harrison

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Monday, 28 May 2012 20:29 (thirteen years ago)

roddick upon being asked in his press conference if he's playing mixed with serena here:

"Ask her. I can't get ahold of her. If you see her, ask her for me."

Mixed doubles draw:

Serena Williams/Bob Bryan

Alla Kudryavtseva ‏@AllaK11

I really don't know what else to do to win a fucking match... One last try in mixed...

:*(

(i was kind of blah on her until I started following her on Twitter, where it's obvious that her problem is that she is WAY too smart and self-aware to be an elite pro athlete, which requires confidence to the point of delusion)

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Tuesday, 29 May 2012 14:15 (thirteen years ago)

Sveta talked to 50 cent on the phone once. Shame on the reporter whose follow-up question was not "so what did you guys talk about?!"

Also:

Who did you dream of kissing when you were a teenager?
Marat Safin, and he knows it!

uberweiss, Tuesday, 29 May 2012 18:26 (thirteen years ago)

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Tuesday, 29 May 2012 18:27 (thirteen years ago)

uberweiss, Tuesday, 29 May 2012 18:27 (thirteen years ago)

I WILL NOT BELIEVE IT

uberweiss, Tuesday, 29 May 2012 19:03 (thirteen years ago)

That was a good run of not losing in the 1st round of Slams, though.

abcfsk, Tuesday, 29 May 2012 19:05 (thirteen years ago)

La Razz took it on her 8th MP, which was OBVIOUSLY a disputed line call that Asderaki had to overrule

so happy for her after last year

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Tuesday, 29 May 2012 19:05 (thirteen years ago)

does Seles or Serena hold the no-1R losses record?

still gives me LIFE that Seles's record lasted until her VERY LAST MATCH EVER

uberweiss, Tuesday, 29 May 2012 19:10 (thirteen years ago)

Q. Similar question. You had such good clay court season. You've just come off a really tough loss. Can you try and put it in perspective in terms of your hopes for Roland Garros and the clay season?

SERENA WILLIAMS: Yeah. I have to put it in perspective. My Roland Garros so happens to be over.

God damn it, Serena, why are you making me like you?

neil young & crazy town (edwardo), Tuesday, 29 May 2012 21:20 (thirteen years ago)

mmm, her response to the question about Razzano's tragedy should be the antidote to that.

Cibulkova killed King, who I thought might be a tough opponent. If Domi is in good form, could she...possibly...dare I hope...could she...finish what she started in Miami against Vika?

*prays*

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Wednesday, 30 May 2012 10:43 (thirteen years ago)

re: Serena, I do find it hilarious that she's become everything she despised: she can bring her A game at the warm-ups but at the Slams she chokes and cries and sulks like her last name is Zvonareva. Or just inexplicably doesn't turn up for big matches.

It's often forgotten that both Serena and Justine had big reputations as chokers early in their careers, and part of their respective legends is how they overcame that. But I think it's telling that when Serena found it easiest to swan in to win Slams when she was most blase about the sport, but now she's obviously putting a lot of pressure on herself and really taking her preparation seriously...she crumbles. It's not because her game isn't good enough, we saw how she eviscerated everyone during the USO series and #charleston&madrid. She's just...become Safina.

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Wednesday, 30 May 2012 10:48 (thirteen years ago)

How has Johansson survived to the third round?

abcfsk, Wednesday, 30 May 2012 14:27 (thirteen years ago)

by playing A-Nasty and Cetkovska?

she's so streaky though, lost her first 10 matches of the year, finally won a match in Fes qualies, got lucky and got in as a LL and then suddenly made it to the SF.

I am VERY SAD about Zheng's loss ;_;

It's not just me, surely, that has noticed Wozniacki seems to get Gajdosova an awful lot. I mean, it's not as if Gajdosova wins a lot of matches to get to the match-up a la Aga/Vika. She really should be thanking her lucky stars she's not facing a competent basher.

neil young & crazy town (edwardo), Wednesday, 30 May 2012 21:38 (thirteen years ago)

(also it's not as if Woz has won lots of matches recently either lolz)

neil young & crazy town (edwardo), Wednesday, 30 May 2012 21:38 (thirteen years ago)

lulz @ how Serena losing sends tennis fans into meltdown but Venus losing HARD to A-Rad barely merits a flicker of interest

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Thursday, 31 May 2012 07:00 (thirteen years ago)

A-Rad vs Sweta next: I know I know I know, A-Rad is the "duh" choice BUT Sweta has won their last FIVE matches...

...but Sweta is a moron, so yeah. A-Rad.

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Thursday, 31 May 2012 07:01 (thirteen years ago)

(I'd really like Venus to have a good send-off at Wim or the Olympics, there's something a bit sad about results like this even if I wanted Aga to win.) (Not for the first time, I wish Venus and Serena had swapped careers)

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Thursday, 31 May 2012 07:03 (thirteen years ago)

Anyone but A-Rad in the finals, pls. Time to randomly be good again, Kuz.

abcfsk, Thursday, 31 May 2012 07:16 (thirteen years ago)

neil young & crazy town (edwardo), Thursday, 31 May 2012 21:55 (thirteen years ago)

Waking up to a Jankovic loss these days just gives me so much life. Now I just need that accompanied by an Ivanovic loss next round.

neil young & crazy town (edwardo), Thursday, 31 May 2012 22:20 (thirteen years ago)

What I really need to happen is for Kaia Kanepi to play like I know she can so that we don't get Goerges/Wozniacki in the QF :/

Nice to see a Shvedova revival! Back in the top 100.

Poor Vania King, her Olympic spot snatched away from her at the last minute...

Shocked that of all people Paul-Henri Mathieu managed to win one of those Isner epics.

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Friday, 1 June 2012 06:56 (thirteen years ago)

Shocked that Paul_Henri Mathieu won a close match of any kind, given what a fucking wimp he is.

Love Slava, hopefully a good run at Wimby too because she's athletic and fast and good on grass.

neil young & crazy town (edwardo), Friday, 1 June 2012 08:05 (thirteen years ago)

YOU GUYS DID YOU JUST SEE ERRANI BREAK IVANOVIC THERE SO SO GOOD.

Shame she lost the first set 1-6, but she really should be up 4-0 in the second if she hadn't missed a volley in the second game. She's attacking Ana's shitty backhand really well atm. Though when did Ivanovic ever hit decent slices? She's done a few!

neil young & crazy town (edwardo), Friday, 1 June 2012 09:57 (thirteen years ago)

idk I've seen people tempted to say Errani is just the kind of grinder who gives dumb headcase bashers like Ivanovic fits but Errani really is so harmless, rather like AMG, even against top players in shitty form. Her record against top 10 players is something like 0-96594858339344 and against top 20 players it's not much better.

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Friday, 1 June 2012 10:09 (thirteen years ago)

I know and right on cue it's a mess again. I just really, really cannot abide Ivanovic in the top 10 again.

neil young & crazy town (edwardo), Friday, 1 June 2012 10:14 (thirteen years ago)

Ivanovic has sliced well for years - her finesse is underrated, maybe because she bashes a ball in the net for every sweet touch. I don't know, I really like the aesthetics of her game when she plays well for an entire match, just hasn't happened in the past three years so I stopped watching.

abcfsk, Friday, 1 June 2012 10:16 (thirteen years ago)

hahahahahahaha @ the score. Is Ana still doing this awful drawn-out desperate AJDEEEEEEEEEEEEEEs?

Why has Berdman lost a set to Anderson kmt

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Friday, 1 June 2012 10:42 (thirteen years ago)

her finesse is underrated, maybe because she bashes a ball in the net for every sweet touch.

That would be about three balls, and usually a couple long too.

Now, Errani can you please finish this off, and then fuck off and lose tamely to A-Rad or Sweta, k thx?

neil young & crazy town (edwardo), Friday, 1 June 2012 11:06 (thirteen years ago)

PAMELA <3 <3 <3

abcfsk, Friday, 1 June 2012 11:19 (thirteen years ago)

Oh look, Sweta is playing her one good game of the year.

neil young & crazy town (edwardo), Friday, 1 June 2012 11:20 (thirteen years ago)

if Sweta somehow wins here she'll only lose to Errani next, you know.

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Friday, 1 June 2012 11:25 (thirteen years ago)

So far the best-performing American of the tournament is... Sloane Stephens

that is a weird thing to bring up over lean cuisine (DJP), Friday, 1 June 2012 11:26 (thirteen years ago)

Bye A-Rad! Uh, pray you don't get in Cetkovska's part of the draw at Wimbledon!

neil young & crazy town (edwardo), Friday, 1 June 2012 11:50 (thirteen years ago)

(obv Sweta could choke from here but that would just be lol)

neil young & crazy town (edwardo), Friday, 1 June 2012 11:55 (thirteen years ago)

Like the other day, I'm glancing at the scoreboard and RIGHT THERE I could tell that Aga winning that game to pull back to 2-3 was the turning point

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Friday, 1 June 2012 12:03 (thirteen years ago)

Or not.

neil young & crazy town (edwardo), Friday, 1 June 2012 12:06 (thirteen years ago)

Anyway I am totally down with a big Sweta run out of nowhere, though just as likely as her losing to Errani, is beating Errani and then putting in an absolute shit-fest v Azarenka (or, pray, Cibulkova).

neil young & crazy town (edwardo), Friday, 1 June 2012 12:12 (thirteen years ago)

No choke :o

I love Aga but honestly I am just relieved that there will be no Vika/Aga match here

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Friday, 1 June 2012 12:14 (thirteen years ago)

I love Aga but even New Improved Aga on clay really should be a massive lol, and today, it certainly was. What was her conversion % on game points there? Looked bad.

Anderson winning TWO sets is also something that we don't need.

neil young & crazy town (edwardo), Friday, 1 June 2012 12:16 (thirteen years ago)

Oh Ana :( She was playing so well in the first set. Rad stinking out the court.

pandemic, Friday, 1 June 2012 12:18 (thirteen years ago)

Fuck, Stosur is looking pretty uber.

neil young & crazy town (edwardo), Friday, 1 June 2012 13:47 (thirteen years ago)

Roz, Friday, 1 June 2012 16:09 (thirteen years ago)

holy shit, that's quite something.

(the harsh critic in me says: before the end of the SECOND set? really?? WORK ON YOUR FITNESS, BOYS.)

can't believe I didn't see any of today's five-setters. Verdasco...ugh. But today marks the END of my office stint and I intend to rest on my laurels for the rest of the summer tennis season. And never book a bloody sub-editing shift in a Slam week ever again.

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Friday, 1 June 2012 19:51 (thirteen years ago)

(also, the perv in me thinks, what good fortune that Dimitrov's cramps entailed his shorts coming halfway down. A$$ A$$ A$$ A$$ A$$)

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Friday, 1 June 2012 19:56 (thirteen years ago)

Oh look, it's a sneak preview of the Shitova that will probably lose next round to Schiavone, happening right now.

neil young & crazy town (edwardo), Saturday, 2 June 2012 10:02 (thirteen years ago)

(Bratchikova has hit some great winners, mind you, but the first part of the set was... just.. revolting)

neil young & crazy town (edwardo), Saturday, 2 June 2012 10:09 (thirteen years ago)

To BRATCHIKOVA? Seriously? Oh my god Petra.

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Saturday, 2 June 2012 10:20 (thirteen years ago)

Bratchikova's year-end rankings, going back over a DECADE

2011 143
2010 143
2009 214
2008 195
2007 371
2006 234
2005 259
2004 229
2003 425
2002 451
2001 818
2000 925

WELL DONE PETRA.

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Saturday, 2 June 2012 10:22 (thirteen years ago)

Good Petra is back. And relax.

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Saturday, 2 June 2012 10:36 (thirteen years ago)

The Petra bandwagon is totally worth being on for shots like that beautiful touch forehand about a game ago, but... man is it unpleasant a lot of the time.

neil young & crazy town (edwardo), Saturday, 2 June 2012 10:54 (thirteen years ago)

Lepchenko/Schiavone looks like a tussle - every time I look at the scores it's at deuce.

neil young & crazy town (edwardo), Saturday, 2 June 2012 10:57 (thirteen years ago)

Good choice to switch there - Lepchenko played a near flawless set of two games to win the second. Uh, who's more likely to let Petra win next round?

neil young & crazy town (edwardo), Saturday, 2 June 2012 11:03 (thirteen years ago)

I don't know who I want to win this...I like Fran, but Lepchenko will be less dangerous for Petra. And it'd be really great for Lepchenko to make the Olympics after Her Story and everything (Stephens will get tons more chances in her career).

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Saturday, 2 June 2012 11:33 (thirteen years ago)

Poor Fran's ranking if she drops here. It'll double at least!

neil young & crazy town (edwardo), Saturday, 2 June 2012 11:56 (thirteen years ago)

I've got nothing against McHale, and she's hitting some nice BH winners, but Li losing isn't quite good.

neil young & crazy town (edwardo), Saturday, 2 June 2012 11:56 (thirteen years ago)

Lepchenko doing big things returning but playing it too safe serving out set.

abcfsk, Saturday, 2 June 2012 12:12 (thirteen years ago)

Lepchenko's played some really gutsy, impressive tennis, except when serving for it.

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Saturday, 2 June 2012 12:13 (thirteen years ago)

this pavlyuchenkova match has hilarity written all over it. *straps self in*

uberweiss, Saturday, 2 June 2012 13:45 (thirteen years ago)

...2 points later, it's over

this really isn't my tournament

uberweiss, Saturday, 2 June 2012 13:46 (thirteen years ago)

as the first time this year Chunkova has won consecutive matches I'd say this was a v positive tournament for her

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Saturday, 2 June 2012 13:49 (thirteen years ago)

Prob won't even be seeded at Wimbledon (assuming the organisers do the right thing and give Venus a seeding).

neil young & crazy town (edwardo), Saturday, 2 June 2012 13:52 (thirteen years ago)

NOOOOOO SEEDING OUTSIDE THE TOP 32

I am such a stickler for that. SEED BY THE RANKINGS AND ONLY THE RANKINGS

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Saturday, 2 June 2012 13:56 (thirteen years ago)

If M-Nav came back again you wouldn't seed her just because she's a gazillion-time champ

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Saturday, 2 June 2012 13:57 (thirteen years ago)

Ordinarily I"d agree but they gave special treatment to Sharapova that one time (with lol results), and Venus has won it five times so should get the same. Then no more of such nonsense.

neil young & crazy town (edwardo), Saturday, 2 June 2012 14:02 (thirteen years ago)

They shouldn't have given it to Ma$habot! TWO WRONGS DON'T MAKE A RIGHT

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Saturday, 2 June 2012 14:06 (thirteen years ago)

Look, it's not really defensible, and Wimbledon organisers are gross, gross bastards who play favourites. And it _was_ wrong to do it for Ma$ha. But if you _have_ done it for her, then giving it to a five-time Champion in probably her last Wimbledon is not a second wrong, more a continuation of a bad situation than a second bad situation.

neil young & crazy town (edwardo), Saturday, 2 June 2012 14:17 (thirteen years ago)

I guess it's too late for gasquet to learn to hit a forehand. And all the other stuff he's deficient in, like a mind.

pandemic, Saturday, 2 June 2012 14:36 (thirteen years ago)

oh what a get from rafa

Kanepi/Kuznetsova final. RIGHT HERE. RIGHT NOW. (In my head, and nowhere else).

neil young & crazy town (edwardo), Sunday, 3 June 2012 02:16 (thirteen years ago)

Bageled by Sara Errani. Nice, Sveta. -_-

Roz, Sunday, 3 June 2012 09:46 (thirteen years ago)

yeah, getting completely pummeled. First 7 games in a row before I couldn't stand to watch anymore.

pandemic, Sunday, 3 June 2012 09:57 (thirteen years ago)

Hah, wins her first game by breaking Errani to love. Of course.

Roz, Sunday, 3 June 2012 09:59 (thirteen years ago)

Only God can jurge her! Still, lolololol. I'm all about Kerber coming through her section now, she's got fight and maybe if she gets to another SF it'll be contagious and everyone else will grow some.

neil young & crazy town (edwardo), Sunday, 3 June 2012 10:02 (thirteen years ago)

If Cibulkova beats Azarenka today, I think I'll have to take the entire week off work to celebrate. A slam second week without Azarenka, Wozniacki, Jankovic _and_ Ivanovic, and which still includes Kvitova (even if she is playing pretty shit), Li and Kanepi would just give me so much life.

neil young & crazy town (edwardo), Sunday, 3 June 2012 10:05 (thirteen years ago)

^^^YES to all of this.

Roz, Sunday, 3 June 2012 10:14 (thirteen years ago)

kuznetsova's screechy outbursts are so fucking annoying

uberweiss, Sunday, 3 June 2012 10:27 (thirteen years ago)

Haha I briefly checked the scores last night at the party I was at, after it was over, and was just like "duh, of course" when I saw Killer Kaia won. Had no idea of the drama en route to the fairly predictable result.

Goerges' attitude has always been abominable. Losing to Rus is more than I could have hoped for.

As for what is currently happening, I have to say that it does not surprise me one tiny bit. Full-on moron in the first set, I presume.

Just wish I'd been wrong about Granola.

We think Domi can finish what she started in Miami? I...will say YES.

Hahahahahaha Care Bear d. Sharapova would be an amazing final. Too many people are handing the trophy to Ma$habot already based on her dominance over scrubs.

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Sunday, 3 June 2012 10:47 (thirteen years ago)

Oh sveta, why you so brainless?

Roz, Sunday, 3 June 2012 10:48 (thirteen years ago)

Martic bringing out her desperation level on the verge of defeat. Net forays, dropshots...saved a MP by chipping and charging

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Sunday, 3 June 2012 10:52 (thirteen years ago)

...but not enough. Care Bear in her second Slam QF.

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Sunday, 3 June 2012 10:52 (thirteen years ago)

Is a Shvedova def Stephens final too much to ask for? :(

uberweiss, Sunday, 3 June 2012 10:56 (thirteen years ago)

After the Woz Kerber is the most boring player in the top 10.

abcfsk, Sunday, 3 June 2012 11:01 (thirteen years ago)

Kerber is more interesting than Stosur, surely?

neil young & crazy town (edwardo), Sunday, 3 June 2012 11:02 (thirteen years ago)

I guess other than that Kerber frames or shanks the ball less often...

neil young & crazy town (edwardo), Sunday, 3 June 2012 11:03 (thirteen years ago)

We think Domi can finish what she started in Miami? I...will say YES.

all depends on how domi plays. her attitude could either be 'should've won last time, will win this time' or 'couldn't have played much better last time and still lost :('

if she's on her game azarenka will have no answers. so who the fuck knows. let's be honest vika will probz win :/ at least that means stosur will almost certainly not be making the semis

uberweiss, Sunday, 3 June 2012 11:16 (thirteen years ago)

Hint, Domi: drawing Vika into the net and then tapping the ball softly straight at her is not a good tactic

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Sunday, 3 June 2012 11:18 (thirteen years ago)

In spite of hating her, I actually really like Azarenka's outfit, even though it makes her look more like a cake than a person. Oh wait, that would be why. Come on Domi.

neil young & crazy town (edwardo), Sunday, 3 June 2012 11:23 (thirteen years ago)

Nu-brainless-ball-bashing Domi can totally smack some A+++ forehands. MORE!

neil young & crazy town (edwardo), Sunday, 3 June 2012 11:25 (thirteen years ago)

This opening game is epic and awful :o

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Sunday, 3 June 2012 11:26 (thirteen years ago)

FUUUUUUUUUCK.

neil young & crazy town (edwardo), Sunday, 3 June 2012 11:27 (thirteen years ago)

I expect lots of breaks because, duh, Domi is a midget and Azarenka, while not a midget, has a shit serve.

neil young & crazy town (edwardo), Sunday, 3 June 2012 11:29 (thirteen years ago)

THAT WAS SO FOOLHARDY AND YET SO FUCKING GOOD! :D :D :D DOMI!

neil young & crazy town (edwardo), Sunday, 3 June 2012 11:30 (thirteen years ago)

Nice volley, Domi!

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Sunday, 3 June 2012 11:30 (thirteen years ago)

Judging from these errors, Azza is totally there for the taking today.

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Sunday, 3 June 2012 11:33 (thirteen years ago)

Comedy gold that game point. I enjoyed it!

neil young & crazy town (edwardo), Sunday, 3 June 2012 11:34 (thirteen years ago)

Hey, Djoko was up a break and now he isn't. I don't think he could lose to Seppi, mind you. Anyone watching that?

neil young & crazy town (edwardo), Sunday, 3 June 2012 11:40 (thirteen years ago)

Azarenka's movement on clay is not very sure-footed. Surely she's vulnerable to being wrong-footed. Do it, Domi!

neil young & crazy town (edwardo), Sunday, 3 June 2012 11:43 (thirteen years ago)

irl lol @ azarenka's attempt at a drop volley

uberweiss, Sunday, 3 June 2012 11:49 (thirteen years ago)

Azarenka's "transition" game is just.. it's not good at all. She's not exactly inept at the net but she's not actually good at getting into position at it. Weird that so few players are any good at exposing this - Serena and Clijsters, yes, and Bartoli on a good day.. and Mental Giant Domi (appearing presumably for one set only).

neil young & crazy town (edwardo), Sunday, 3 June 2012 11:50 (thirteen years ago)

Seppi is serving for the first set, btw.

neil young & crazy town (edwardo), Sunday, 3 June 2012 11:53 (thirteen years ago)

This match is different to the Miami one...there, Domi was playing out of her mind. Winners everywhere. Here, she's playing decently but Azarenka is just absolutely dreadful.

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Sunday, 3 June 2012 11:57 (thirteen years ago)

woah nice backhand DTL down break point from Seppi

Rooting hard for the only one who can take out Nadal tho

uberweiss, Sunday, 3 June 2012 11:59 (thirteen years ago)

wtf

6-4 seppi

uberweiss, Sunday, 3 June 2012 12:00 (thirteen years ago)

Great hold, great break-back for Domi. She's got this if she holds her nerve.

neil young & crazy town (edwardo), Sunday, 3 June 2012 12:14 (thirteen years ago)

For someone who relies on steady grinding, Azarenka sure misses BIG sometimes.

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Sunday, 3 June 2012 12:14 (thirteen years ago)

Also Azarenka's terrible, terrible forward movement is endlessly amusing.

neil young & crazy town (edwardo), Sunday, 3 June 2012 12:15 (thirteen years ago)

looooooooool at that Azza dropshot

looooooooool at the racquet smash and boos that ensued

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Sunday, 3 June 2012 12:18 (thirteen years ago)

LOL terrible Azarenka drop-shot. Like, not even remotely disguised, not well-timed, and definitely not well played.

RACQUET ABUSE WARNING. FUCKING POME!

neil young & crazy town (edwardo), Sunday, 3 June 2012 12:19 (thirteen years ago)

mauresmo has clearly done wonders for azarenka's game

uberweiss, Sunday, 3 June 2012 12:20 (thirteen years ago)

Amelie, Amelie, how could you work with this blight on the landscape when you were such a classy, elegant player? Your face is showing serious remorse right now.

neil young & crazy town (edwardo), Sunday, 3 June 2012 12:20 (thirteen years ago)

I mean...I guess when you hire Amélie Mauresmo to teach you how to play at Roland Garros, you get what you ask for.

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Sunday, 3 June 2012 12:20 (thirteen years ago)

lulz we all posted that at the same time

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Sunday, 3 June 2012 12:21 (thirteen years ago)

This is top notch entertainment but we have to remember it's not over.

abcfsk, Sunday, 3 June 2012 12:23 (thirteen years ago)

Novak now a set and a break down. Hmmm.

Michael Jones, Sunday, 3 June 2012 12:23 (thirteen years ago)

Novak trolling us, lulz?

neil young & crazy town (edwardo), Sunday, 3 June 2012 12:24 (thirteen years ago)

Our world no 1s syncing their losses

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Sunday, 3 June 2012 12:25 (thirteen years ago)

That noise Azarenka made at 30/30... wtf?

neil young & crazy town (edwardo), Sunday, 3 June 2012 12:26 (thirteen years ago)

Multi-deuce game at 6-2, 4-2. Ruh roh.

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Sunday, 3 June 2012 12:29 (thirteen years ago)

NO. This is going to be... Hantuchova/Wozniacki last year, but sixteen times more orgasmic. SHUT UP SHUT UP SHUT UP.

neil young & crazy town (edwardo), Sunday, 3 June 2012 12:30 (thirteen years ago)

Domi loses it on a DF. Of course.

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Sunday, 3 June 2012 12:30 (thirteen years ago)

Break the bitch again, Domi. You can attack that pathetic serve just as well as she can attack yours.

neil young & crazy town (edwardo), Sunday, 3 June 2012 12:31 (thirteen years ago)

oh do spare me, domi

uberweiss, Sunday, 3 June 2012 12:34 (thirteen years ago)

If my wrists make it out of this set unslashed I will be surprised.

neil young & crazy town (edwardo), Sunday, 3 June 2012 12:34 (thirteen years ago)

"do the balls smell like success?" is one of the odder things i've heard a tennis commentator say and that's saying something

uberweiss, Sunday, 3 June 2012 12:35 (thirteen years ago)

yes @ that letcord :D

uberweiss, Sunday, 3 June 2012 12:38 (thirteen years ago)

YES AT THAT ERROR.

neil young & crazy town (edwardo), Sunday, 3 June 2012 12:38 (thirteen years ago)

C'mon Domi, you've broken her enough times already. Just one more.

neil young & crazy town (edwardo), Sunday, 3 June 2012 12:40 (thirteen years ago)

Seppi failed to serve out set 2, after having a big chance to tie it up on Djokovic's. Hmm. Synchronicity indeed.

neil young & crazy town (edwardo), Sunday, 3 June 2012 12:41 (thirteen years ago)

Fuck's sake Dominika.

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Sunday, 3 June 2012 12:44 (thirteen years ago)

Well, Azza stuffed up serving for the set completely. Hope!

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Sunday, 3 June 2012 12:49 (thirteen years ago)

I'm more hoping for her to fall over and not get up, frankly.

neil young & crazy town (edwardo), Sunday, 3 June 2012 12:50 (thirteen years ago)

Carried off in a stretcher a la Lisicki, and taken to a padded soundproof cell, that sounds nice.

neil young & crazy town (edwardo), Sunday, 3 June 2012 12:50 (thirteen years ago)

wtf wtf

neil young & crazy town (edwardo), Sunday, 3 June 2012 12:53 (thirteen years ago)

Fantastic point from Domi there

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Sunday, 3 June 2012 12:54 (thirteen years ago)

neil young & crazy town (edwardo), Sunday, 3 June 2012 12:55 (thirteen years ago)

POJDMEEEEEEEEEEEEE

uberweiss, Sunday, 3 June 2012 12:55 (thirteen years ago)

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Sunday, 3 June 2012 12:57 (thirteen years ago)

neil young & crazy town (edwardo), Sunday, 3 June 2012 12:58 (thirteen years ago)

uberweiss, Sunday, 3 June 2012 12:58 (thirteen years ago)

neil young & crazy town (edwardo), Sunday, 3 June 2012 12:59 (thirteen years ago)

Up your fucking haughty cunt, Azarenka.

Ahem, pardon.

neil young & crazy town (edwardo), Sunday, 3 June 2012 12:59 (thirteen years ago)

Stosur guaranteed a SF spot. Sigh...

uberweiss, Sunday, 3 June 2012 13:00 (thirteen years ago)

I'll take a _probable_ Stosur SF spot over a definite Azarenka one.

neil young & crazy town (edwardo), Sunday, 3 June 2012 13:01 (thirteen years ago)

Very nice.

abcfsk, Sunday, 3 June 2012 13:01 (thirteen years ago)

Set point Seppi in the other match...

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Sunday, 3 June 2012 13:03 (thirteen years ago)

WHOA. Takes it

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Sunday, 3 June 2012 13:04 (thirteen years ago)

tuning in to the djokovic match, first thing i hear is david mercer calling a djokovic shot a "beginner's shot". <3 that man so much

but wtf is this shit

NOLE :@ YOU ARE MY ONLY HOPE

uberweiss, Sunday, 3 June 2012 13:06 (thirteen years ago)

I vote for best of three for men first week.

abcfsk, Sunday, 3 June 2012 13:08 (thirteen years ago)

Wow @ these basic-ass errors from Nole. Twice up a break in this set, both times broken back immediately.

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Sunday, 3 June 2012 13:28 (thirteen years ago)

Djokovic v Seppi is women's tennis.

neil young & crazy town (edwardo), Sunday, 3 June 2012 13:28 (thirteen years ago)

I literally can't remember the last time anyone hit a winner in this match

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Sunday, 3 June 2012 13:29 (thirteen years ago)

David Goffin looks about 12

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Sunday, 3 June 2012 13:41 (thirteen years ago)

Wow, Federer just hit one of the worst dropshots I've ever seen. He was standing on the service line, had all the time in the world, and the ball went right into the bottom of the net

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Sunday, 3 June 2012 13:50 (thirteen years ago)

This David Goffin is good, huh. What a way to take the set! BLAM FH DTL winner.

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Sunday, 3 June 2012 14:08 (thirteen years ago)

oh shit! yes goffin!

uberweiss, Sunday, 3 June 2012 14:11 (thirteen years ago)

This tournament is trolling so hard and it is pretty much amazing.

neil young & crazy town (edwardo), Sunday, 3 June 2012 14:20 (thirteen years ago)

djok 3-0 to 3-3

what is this bullshit

uberweiss, Sunday, 3 June 2012 14:21 (thirteen years ago)

this isn't on, wtf

the route is ban (k3vin k.), Sunday, 3 June 2012 14:23 (thirteen years ago)

Oh yesss that volley

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Sunday, 3 June 2012 14:23 (thirteen years ago)

impressive hold from 0-30!! really enjoying this guy

uberweiss, Sunday, 3 June 2012 14:25 (thirteen years ago)

I'm def a fan. Love his BH and all-round game.

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Sunday, 3 June 2012 14:27 (thirteen years ago)

Asked how she would recover from the defeat, a stone-faced Azarenka said sarcastically: "I'm going to kill myself" Hmmm

katstevens, Sunday, 3 June 2012 14:27 (thirteen years ago)

well ok then!

lol j/k kinda

uberweiss, Sunday, 3 June 2012 14:32 (thirteen years ago)

Amazing rally & winner there!

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Sunday, 3 June 2012 14:35 (thirteen years ago)

that forehand DTL after trading crosscourt forehands with federer omg!!

uberweiss, Sunday, 3 June 2012 14:35 (thirteen years ago)

don't expect fed to miss a routine forehand return off a 2nd serve at 4-4 deuce

uberweiss, Sunday, 3 June 2012 14:40 (thirteen years ago)

Simon Reed and Mats Wilander? Good night, that stream.

neil young & crazy town (edwardo), Sunday, 3 June 2012 14:46 (thirteen years ago)

ugh all these errors :/

& lol edwardo

uberweiss, Sunday, 3 June 2012 14:48 (thirteen years ago)

nooooooooooo

his backhand just leaking errors from 5-4 30-15 up :(

uberweiss, Sunday, 3 June 2012 14:49 (thirteen years ago)

Bad time to switch to Goffin/Fed because the kid bottled it. He's cute. Ugh, I'm a lech.

neil young & crazy town (edwardo), Sunday, 3 June 2012 14:49 (thirteen years ago)

I think it's more Goffin tiring. He's played some epic matches in this tournament. It was nice while it lasted :(

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Sunday, 3 June 2012 14:51 (thirteen years ago)

AMAZING.

neil young & crazy town (edwardo), Sunday, 3 June 2012 14:54 (thirteen years ago)

Oh look, I haven't see a Turkish Airlines ad in a bit, and there it is. Hey, how come Azarenka hasn't inked any deals involving TV ads?

neil young & crazy town (edwardo), Sunday, 3 June 2012 15:06 (thirteen years ago)

Or rather, one that is at least as omnipresent.

neil young & crazy town (edwardo), Sunday, 3 June 2012 15:07 (thirteen years ago)

Why are there two really interesting games going on at the same time when I HAVE A DEADLINE AT 9AM.

neil young & crazy town (edwardo), Sunday, 3 June 2012 15:08 (thirteen years ago)

Where are all the Goffin & King jokes? SMH at contemporary ILX tennis threads.

( ;) )

Michael Jones, Sunday, 3 June 2012 17:06 (thirteen years ago)

so, hobak came back

the route is ban (k3vin k.), Sunday, 3 June 2012 17:50 (thirteen years ago)

arghhh, I can't believe I slept through Nole five-setter, Vika loss and GOFFIN.

Roz, Sunday, 3 June 2012 17:55 (thirteen years ago)

Lol McEnroe is postulations Stephens making a run to the finals

I mean, that would be cool but come on

that is a weird thing to bring up over lean cuisine (DJP), Sunday, 3 June 2012 17:56 (thirteen years ago)

wow, stephens is an impressive ball-striker

the route is ban (k3vin k.), Sunday, 3 June 2012 18:01 (thirteen years ago)

meh why can't I seem to find a stream for Stosur/Stephens?

At least Delpo still seems to be winning, despite having only one working leg.

Roz, Sunday, 3 June 2012 18:02 (thirteen years ago)

Roz I just found one:

uberweiss, Sunday, 3 June 2012 18:07 (thirteen years ago)

thankin' you!

Roz, Sunday, 3 June 2012 18:09 (thirteen years ago)

uh oh she's tightening up

the route is ban (k3vin k.), Sunday, 3 June 2012 18:10 (thirteen years ago)

oh dear.

Roz, Sunday, 3 June 2012 18:12 (thirteen years ago)

fuck

i have so much hatred for this robot

someone take her out please. azarenka come back to us :(

uberweiss, Sunday, 3 June 2012 18:13 (thirteen years ago)

and pony seems to be unraveling too. :( WHY CAN'T YOU PEOPLE SERVE?

Roz, Sunday, 3 June 2012 18:14 (thirteen years ago)

Nightmare vision of Stosur getting to play her bitch Li in the final

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Sunday, 3 June 2012 18:17 (thirteen years ago)

I've been watching the Tsonga/Manislas match because UK TV refuses to move away from it and man JWT can be a moron sometimes

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Sunday, 3 June 2012 18:17 (thirteen years ago)

poor Delpo. Just can't serve on that knee at all anymore.

Roz, Sunday, 3 June 2012 18:26 (thirteen years ago)

xp lex please don't even. i just refuse

uberweiss, Sunday, 3 June 2012 18:26 (thirteen years ago)

didn't Wawrinka also come back from two sets down v Tsonga last year? Fuck this.

Roz, Sunday, 3 June 2012 18:32 (thirteen years ago)

break back point! come on, Sloane!

Roz, Sunday, 3 June 2012 18:41 (thirteen years ago)

lol Stosur

Roz, Sunday, 3 June 2012 18:43 (thirteen years ago)

Care Bear is our only hope in the top half :/

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Sunday, 3 June 2012 18:47 (thirteen years ago)

sigh :(

Roz, Sunday, 3 June 2012 18:48 (thirteen years ago)

Pony takes the third set...is his knee better?

Manislas/JWT is equal parts amazing and awful, they're both such incredible shotmakers and such massive dummies.

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Sunday, 3 June 2012 19:16 (thirteen years ago)

Tsonga's dropshots in this match, I just can't

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Sunday, 3 June 2012 19:17 (thirteen years ago)

Pony takes the third set...is his knee better?

taking pace off his serve helped, as did focusing more on his returns. I think he had break points in every game that set.

Roz, Sunday, 3 June 2012 19:32 (thirteen years ago)

hahaha are they stopping the match now?

Roz, Sunday, 3 June 2012 19:37 (thirteen years ago)

Yeah, commentators seemed surprised they hadn't done it earlier

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Sunday, 3 June 2012 19:38 (thirteen years ago)

Yeah, should've stopped at the end of the 4th.

xyzzzz__, Sunday, 3 June 2012 19:42 (thirteen years ago)

Obviously JWT had to give that break back before finally closing Manislas out. He really should have a great shot at Hobak next, who is just...not playing well, at all. But he's such a dummy, I don't know if he can take advantage. That said, he can be a moron but he's a FIGHTER!!!!1111 as well.

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Monday, 4 June 2012 12:16 (thirteen years ago)

Zakopalova is a moron, but what's new?

neil young & crazy town (edwardo), Monday, 4 June 2012 12:34 (thirteen years ago)

Del Pony!

neil young & crazy town (edwardo), Monday, 4 June 2012 12:38 (thirteen years ago)

This match is atrocious and I am bored and want to watch Li Na now.

neil young & crazy town (edwardo), Monday, 4 June 2012 12:50 (thirteen years ago)

It's the wind.

abcfsk, Monday, 4 June 2012 12:52 (thirteen years ago)

Yeah, it's hard to imagine worse conditions for these two than this.

neil young & crazy town (edwardo), Monday, 4 June 2012 12:53 (thirteen years ago)

<3 Shvedova's eyewear/headwear combo.

neil young & crazy town (edwardo), Monday, 4 June 2012 12:56 (thirteen years ago)

argh I'm going to be stuck on the night shift all this week when the office has apparently blocked all streaming sites, the bastards.

How did pony do? can't believe he won that match, with Berdych playing so well too. Not sure I can take another loss to Fed next though.

Roz, Monday, 4 June 2012 13:01 (thirteen years ago)

I only saw the last two games, and the stream wasn't very good (yes, I'm streaming one game on each monitor, and the less interesting game goes in the same monitor as browser, email). He looked very focused. Feel like it's time for Del Pony to beat Fed!

neil young & crazy town (edwardo), Monday, 4 June 2012 13:09 (thirteen years ago)

I've never seen Zakopalova so much as crack a smile or look remotely happy to be on court ever but she's put together a respectable, solid pro career over the past decade so I guess she loves tennis more than she lets on?

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Monday, 4 June 2012 13:18 (thirteen years ago)

God I wish it was Kanepi playing Sharapova today in these conditions, her heavy strokes would wreak serious damage. Of course she'd probably just choke anyway.

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Monday, 4 June 2012 13:20 (thirteen years ago)

Li would be doing well, she's serving superbly, getting 80% of her first serves in!

neil young & crazy town (edwardo), Monday, 4 June 2012 13:37 (thirteen years ago)

Li was doing superbly in Rome until she choked ;_;

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Monday, 4 June 2012 13:44 (thirteen years ago)

But this is a really high quality match, so if Shvedova wants to take it to three, I'm all for it.

neil young & crazy town (edwardo), Monday, 4 June 2012 13:47 (thirteen years ago)

Cow on ice.

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Monday, 4 June 2012 13:57 (thirteen years ago)

Oh this is going to be ugly.

neil young & crazy town (edwardo), Monday, 4 June 2012 14:21 (thirteen years ago)

Umpire correctly enforcing the challenge rule.. wait... what?

neil young & crazy town (edwardo), Monday, 4 June 2012 14:22 (thirteen years ago)

I have no idea what happened there! Ump thought Sharapova stopped play?

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Monday, 4 June 2012 14:23 (thirteen years ago)

Sharapova looked like she stopped play to me. Thing is, the ball looked really, really out.

neil young & crazy town (edwardo), Monday, 4 June 2012 14:23 (thirteen years ago)

Yeah, replay showed that she did stop play. Ball initially looked out to me too but ump ruled it in.

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Monday, 4 June 2012 14:25 (thirteen years ago)

Nice to see that not even Maria Sharapova gets two chances of winning a point.

neil young & crazy town (edwardo), Monday, 4 June 2012 14:25 (thirteen years ago)

At least in Paris.

neil young & crazy town (edwardo), Monday, 4 June 2012 14:26 (thirteen years ago)

Hahahahaa I love it when Sharapova gears up for a massive return and the ball goes straight into the bottom of the net

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Monday, 4 June 2012 14:26 (thirteen years ago)

Set points to Zakopalova!

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Monday, 4 June 2012 14:26 (thirteen years ago)

6-0 in the third to Ma$ha. That is if she doesn't take the breaker 8-6.

neil young & crazy town (edwardo), Monday, 4 June 2012 14:27 (thirteen years ago)

looooooool, what a way to lose a set Ma$habot

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Monday, 4 June 2012 14:29 (thirteen years ago)

Why have I arranged to leave the house now? Aargh @ my planning

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Monday, 4 June 2012 14:30 (thirteen years ago)

Shvedova will beat Kvitova playing like this (though Li could well still go into God mode).

neil young & crazy town (edwardo), Monday, 4 June 2012 14:31 (thirteen years ago)

4-0. Li Na is not playing that badly. She is hitting some astounding shots still. Shvedova is just... well she's hitting some errors, but (injuries aside) it's hard to believe she's never been top 20.

neil young & crazy town (edwardo), Monday, 4 June 2012 14:43 (thirteen years ago)

Okay you can all stop worrying about Stosur winning now, she won't be getting Li in the final.

neil young & crazy town (edwardo), Monday, 4 June 2012 14:55 (thirteen years ago)

whoa

Roz, Monday, 4 June 2012 14:56 (thirteen years ago)

Horrifying stuff, but you live to die another day.

abcfsk, Monday, 4 June 2012 15:21 (thirteen years ago)

Not Li, though, wtf happened there.

abcfsk, Monday, 4 June 2012 15:22 (thirteen years ago)

So Nadal is very likely to win his seventh this year, huh

WHEY AHR MAH DREGUNS? (DJP), Monday, 4 June 2012 17:16 (thirteen years ago)

I am not that surprised by anything I've come home to.

- Lee Na is good and all but she just wasn't going to defend so this was going to happen at some point, may as well benefit a good player who could use the ranking boost
- I predicted Gasquet to beat Murray based on form coming in, thought about putting money on it, and then...I remembered Murray's injury and KNEW Wuss would find a way to fuck it up
- 2, 0 and 0 is just what Rafa does to the Principality/Almagro/Ferrer types who play a B version of his game, the scoreline is totally expected because what exactly can Principality do to him? Outlast him? LOL
- Varvara fought her way to her Olympic dream, no way would she have anything left to trouble Petra. I knew that this tournament we all seem to be superstitiously avoiding the subject of KvittyGOAT but...We Need To Talk About Petra now. She's basically kinda good, you guys.

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Tuesday, 5 June 2012 00:35 (thirteen years ago)

why are the QFs scheduled concurrently

i HATE Slam scheduling

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Tuesday, 5 June 2012 08:28 (thirteen years ago)

She is by some margin the best thing about women's tennis, except when she plays retardedly like at the fucking Australian fucking Open fuck fuck fuck how could she.

I still love her.

neil young & crazy town (edwardo), Tuesday, 5 June 2012 08:29 (thirteen years ago)

This Cibulkova/Stosur match will bring me nothing but pain.

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Tuesday, 5 June 2012 12:13 (thirteen years ago)

The point Cibulkova just played to win that game was great tho

WHEY AHR MAH DREGUNS? (DJP), Tuesday, 5 June 2012 12:22 (thirteen years ago)

It was!

The pain comes with the hope that such points give me.

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Tuesday, 5 June 2012 12:23 (thirteen years ago)

Cibulkova has no chance here. She looks worried already. Stosur is playing fairly intelligently and her backhand is, if not a world-beating shot, solid enough today.

Oh except for that one.

neil young & crazy town (edwardo), Tuesday, 5 June 2012 12:37 (thirteen years ago)

Awesome return from Stosur! She has played some good stuff: opposition is feeble at best tho'.

xyzzzz__, Tuesday, 5 June 2012 12:47 (thirteen years ago)

Other than Errani, I would be happy to see any of the other three left in the top half lose to Kvitova in the final. Please, Petra.

neil young & crazy town (edwardo), Tuesday, 5 June 2012 12:50 (thirteen years ago)

Unforced Errani is actually on fire. Winners everywhere :o

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Tuesday, 5 June 2012 12:54 (thirteen years ago)

Hah, nice collapse here from Stosur. Hey Sam, you know when you're brought into the net by a drop shot, you can go cross-court.

neil young & crazy town (edwardo), Tuesday, 5 June 2012 13:01 (thirteen years ago)

Hahahahahahaha moonball-dropshot combo from Errani!

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Tuesday, 5 June 2012 13:05 (thirteen years ago)

She recovered composure to see her through...hardly a collapse.

xyzzzz__, Tuesday, 5 June 2012 13:05 (thirteen years ago)

Errani is going to make Kerber cry out here. Her little legs working and her brain in overdrive and her BH x-court slamming winners!

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Tuesday, 5 June 2012 13:08 (thirteen years ago)

Inside-out FH winner! BH return winner! Errani!

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Tuesday, 5 June 2012 13:10 (thirteen years ago)

Wow, this is a really good match. Glad I switched.

neil young & crazy town (edwardo), Tuesday, 5 June 2012 13:13 (thirteen years ago)

Nice break-back by Err

xyzzzz__, Tuesday, 5 June 2012 13:20 (thirteen years ago)

what a fkn point to break!!

xyzzzz__, Tuesday, 5 June 2012 13:24 (thirteen years ago)

Why did my laptop randomly switch itself off halfway through that game. I CAN'T DEAL WITH TECHNOLOGY

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Tuesday, 5 June 2012 13:25 (thirteen years ago)

The madness continues with a break back

xyzzzz__, Tuesday, 5 June 2012 13:29 (thirteen years ago)

Kerber's second serve just lets Errani take control of the point...she breaks as Kerber tried to serve out the set. Great volley to set up BP

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Tuesday, 5 June 2012 13:29 (thirteen years ago)

ton of unforced errors from err (good short hand it seems). 3-break points

xyzzzz__, Tuesday, 5 June 2012 13:31 (thirteen years ago)

Another amazing point and Care Bear breaks again!

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Tuesday, 5 June 2012 13:32 (thirteen years ago)

Kerber will have one more chance to serve for a decider - great blood from a stone type stuff there! xp

xyzzzz__, Tuesday, 5 June 2012 13:32 (thirteen years ago)

oh no stream is gone!

xyzzzz__, Tuesday, 5 June 2012 13:35 (thirteen years ago)

Just gonna say - great FH from Kerber looks good - stream goes - now 15-40

xyzzzz__, Tuesday, 5 June 2012 13:36 (thirteen years ago)

set point!!

xyzzzz__, Tuesday, 5 June 2012 13:37 (thirteen years ago)

ok ITV 4 are now showing it

xyzzzz__, Tuesday, 5 June 2012 13:38 (thirteen years ago)

Laptop keeps shutting down. Seriously, can streaming stuff overheat the stupid thing? WHY IS IT DOING THIS TO ME.

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Tuesday, 5 June 2012 13:40 (thirteen years ago)

Hahahaha Care Bear tries moonballing set point up and Errani just smacks it away.

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Tuesday, 5 June 2012 13:41 (thirteen years ago)

Awesome inside-out FH!

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Tuesday, 5 June 2012 13:41 (thirteen years ago)

Errani not letting go and getting stronger - break back

xyzzzz__, Tuesday, 5 June 2012 13:42 (thirteen years ago)

smashes for tie break!!

xyzzzz__, Tuesday, 5 June 2012 13:42 (thirteen years ago)

TB!

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Tuesday, 5 June 2012 13:42 (thirteen years ago)

Kerber's moonball/drop-shot combo is not quite a fully formed tactic, eh.

neil young & crazy town (edwardo), Tuesday, 5 June 2012 13:43 (thirteen years ago)

Errani ftw now, playing w/her on that drop shot

xyzzzz__, Tuesday, 5 June 2012 13:46 (thirteen years ago)

Kerber looks like she's just run out of gas

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Tuesday, 5 June 2012 13:46 (thirteen years ago)

a bag of match points

xyzzzz__, Tuesday, 5 June 2012 13:48 (thirteen years ago)

needed one!

xyzzzz__, Tuesday, 5 June 2012 13:48 (thirteen years ago)

Errani! She's so happy.

Unfortunately this just means another midget for fucking Stosur to bounce topspin over :(

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Tuesday, 5 June 2012 13:49 (thirteen years ago)

ITV4 are showing djoko-tsonga instead of potro-fed. bah!

xyzzzz__, Tuesday, 5 June 2012 13:56 (thirteen years ago)

I'd rather see this to start with - Pony has had so few answers to Fed in their recent matches and is in a bad way physically on top of that. Tsonga really really has a chance at the upset given how poor Djokovic has been but there is the matter of his big stupid head in the way.

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Tuesday, 5 June 2012 14:00 (thirteen years ago)

I'd say no way that Tsonga would win given the home (dis)advantage..

xyzzzz__, Tuesday, 5 June 2012 14:06 (thirteen years ago)

Tsonga feeds off the RG crowd though, he's not a Mauresmo or Wussquet who flops.

But there we go, that service game was pure Big Stupid Head.

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Tuesday, 5 June 2012 14:10 (thirteen years ago)

(I'd say the surface is more of a disadvantage to Tsonga)

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Tuesday, 5 June 2012 14:11 (thirteen years ago)

Pony yay, Tsonga boo. (I need to be home RIGHT NOW. still half an hour to go. :/ )

Roz, Tuesday, 5 June 2012 14:27 (thirteen years ago)

Hobak may well have finished it off in that time. He breadsticked Tsonga in 20 minutes then won the first nine points of the second set :/

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Tuesday, 5 June 2012 14:28 (thirteen years ago)

Hey, isn't it really weird that Errani has suddenly become good?

justfanoe (Greg Fanoe), Tuesday, 5 June 2012 14:29 (thirteen years ago)

Some amazing shots in this JWT/Nole game...

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Tuesday, 5 June 2012 15:01 (thirteen years ago)

What a point to win it on!

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Tuesday, 5 June 2012 15:05 (thirteen years ago)

Hey, isn't it really weird that Errani has suddenly become good?

not especially - a) Italians tend to be late developers, Pennetta was a MM queen befor emorphing into a legit top 20 player, Schiavone is an obvious example and so was Farina Elia; b) she's been top 40-level consistent for a while now; c) this was a relatively soft draw so it's not like she's suddenly a top 5 player, she's just taken the step up to the top 20.

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Tuesday, 5 June 2012 15:07 (thirteen years ago)

Wow, Djokovic smashes it back to Tsonga twice and pays the price...

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Tuesday, 5 June 2012 15:08 (thirteen years ago)

WOW. Incredible stuff from Tsonga. From 1-6, 0-2 hopelessness to winning the set!

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Tuesday, 5 June 2012 15:13 (thirteen years ago)

Ludicrous point there. After saving BPs in the previous game, Hobak has BPs of his own...

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Tuesday, 5 June 2012 15:29 (thirteen years ago)

coming home to find both Jo-W and Pony have won a set = LIFE!

Roz, Tuesday, 5 June 2012 15:31 (thirteen years ago)

Come on Jo-W. Please oust this guy!

andrew m., Tuesday, 5 June 2012 15:33 (thirteen years ago)

DELPOOOOOOOOO <3 <3

Roz, Tuesday, 5 June 2012 15:49 (thirteen years ago)

I love Roger too but... lol:

Beyond The Baseline ‏@SI_BTBaseline

"Shut up!" Roger yells (in English) at the pro-him crowd. They keep audibly admiring his shots mid-rally. That's actually ur fault, Fed.

Roz, Tuesday, 5 June 2012 15:51 (thirteen years ago)

LOL @ Fed.

Why are these on at the same time ffs.

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Tuesday, 5 June 2012 15:54 (thirteen years ago)

i'm watching two streams at once. Whichever's not buffering. :/

Roz, Tuesday, 5 June 2012 15:59 (thirteen years ago)

I can't keep posting every time there's a breathtaking point in Hobak/JWT, the quality is amazing.

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Tuesday, 5 June 2012 16:05 (thirteen years ago)

Incredible get from JWT to take the third set and Chatrier ERUPTS

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Tuesday, 5 June 2012 16:20 (thirteen years ago)

omfg @ that point!!

xyzzzz__, Tuesday, 5 June 2012 16:20 (thirteen years ago)

OMG

Roz, Tuesday, 5 June 2012 16:21 (thirteen years ago)

It's such a huge turnaround. At 1-6, 0-2 down, JWT had literally only won about 5 points.

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Tuesday, 5 June 2012 16:21 (thirteen years ago)

But that's just Jo isn't it? He just catches fire and his opponent suddenly can't do anything.

Roz, Tuesday, 5 June 2012 16:22 (thirteen years ago)

JWT has come up with so many genius shots...he's scrambling so well AND going for the lines AND keeping the stupidity to a minimum right now.

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Tuesday, 5 June 2012 16:23 (thirteen years ago)

Djokovic has been a bit disappointing tho', has blinked a couple of times when the game tightened up.

xyzzzz__, Tuesday, 5 June 2012 16:24 (thirteen years ago)

ugh is Delpo tiring? Come on, dude, you're so close - you can't lose 2 sets to 1 up against Fed here, AGAIN.

Roz, Tuesday, 5 June 2012 16:25 (thirteen years ago)

stupid knee

Roz, Tuesday, 5 June 2012 16:25 (thirteen years ago)

Djokovic has been a bit disappointing tho', has blinked a couple of times when the game tightened up.

yeah he's been a touch careless - in keeping with his level this year which has been somewhat under last year - but not as awful/passive today as he was vs Seppi

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Tuesday, 5 June 2012 16:28 (thirteen years ago)

ahaha this twitter https://twitter.com/#!/TennisGods

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Tuesday, 5 June 2012 16:31 (thirteen years ago)

Great point by D at the net to win: 1-1

xyzzzz__, Tuesday, 5 June 2012 16:32 (thirteen years ago)

MTO, the most NID thing of all

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Tuesday, 5 June 2012 16:34 (thirteen years ago)

i've missed so much tennis ffs

what kind of fucking world do i live in where it's considered acceptable to have QFs on at the same time. i mean jesus christ

djokovic sigh. may as well lose. it's becoming increasingly obvious that 4 in a row (both in terms of slams and beating nadal in the finals) is probably not happening

del potro!!!!!!!!!! but now lost the 3rd and down 3-0. shiiiit :( :(

errani/stosur sf somebody fucking kill me

that bottom half tho!! :D :D so so so happy for yari. + maria, kaia and petra!!

uberweiss, Tuesday, 5 June 2012 16:37 (thirteen years ago)

fuck. Someone give that pony a new leg thanks.

Roz, Tuesday, 5 June 2012 16:40 (thirteen years ago)

Ruh-roh Jo...

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Tuesday, 5 June 2012 16:41 (thirteen years ago)

...big serving erases the BPs.

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Tuesday, 5 June 2012 16:42 (thirteen years ago)

poor Del Potro, this has turned so routine for Federer it hardly even seems like a five setter.

Merdeyeux, Tuesday, 5 June 2012 17:03 (thirteen years ago)

Huge game for JWT to come through. A game away now.

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Tuesday, 5 June 2012 17:04 (thirteen years ago)

5th set plz

ayayayayayayaaaaa what a way to save MP

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Tuesday, 5 June 2012 17:10 (thirteen years ago)

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Tuesday, 5 June 2012 17:38 (thirteen years ago)

Nole is so terrifying when he's focused like this

Roz, Tuesday, 5 June 2012 17:39 (thirteen years ago)

That manic look in his eyes when he gets clutch

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Tuesday, 5 June 2012 17:39 (thirteen years ago)

why is john inverdale allowed to exist

uberweiss, Tuesday, 5 June 2012 17:40 (thirteen years ago)

got a message from a Kanepi fan after the Woz match saying he was considering suing her and Woz and the WTA and RG for PTSD

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Tuesday, 5 June 2012 17:41 (thirteen years ago)

I think I might go to bed now. Can't take this. I'll be happier for Nole in the morning, because right now I just want to smash his face in. And Jo's too.

Roz, Tuesday, 5 June 2012 17:52 (thirteen years ago)

Tsonga serving under 100mph now SMH. That game was beyond bad even taking the now-foregone-conclusion of this match into account

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Tuesday, 5 June 2012 18:05 (thirteen years ago)

rip j-w

:D

uberweiss, Tuesday, 5 June 2012 18:10 (thirteen years ago)

Djokovic had better get that NOLESLAM now

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Tuesday, 5 June 2012 18:12 (thirteen years ago)

A word about the scheduling - maybe this was covered upthread, I dunno, I was folding laundry and entertaining a 5yo during sets three and four...

If memory serves, 2nd Tuesday at RG was usually: two men's QF on PC, all four women's QF on SL, possibly starting at 11am or noon. So, you couldn't watch everything but there'd be no clashes within the same event. This year, they've decided to emulate Melbourne/New York (maintaining the draw split in the women's) but without the benefit of a night session, so they had to split across courts. Incl warm-up, gaps, etc, today's schedule ran to about 11hr so playing it all on PC was never on, even with an earlier start.

Doesn't bother me, but I grew up channel-hopping between BBC1 and BBC2 during Wimbledon (which splits across courts up to/incl 2nd Wednesday) and just accepting that once the news was on BBC1 at 6pm, that we were down to a single channel for the rest of the evening (classic QFs I never saw as a result: Edberg-Ivanisevic '92, Wilander-Cash '87, Connors-Tanner '80, etc; some semis too, due to the weather). You've never had it so good, blah blah blah.

Was never sure what to make of all the women's quarters getting dumped on Langlen; kind of the grand finale for that court (only juniors/doubles on it from 2nd Wed onwards) but also reinforced second-class status of WTA at RG.

Michael Jones, Tuesday, 5 June 2012 18:53 (thirteen years ago)

The man is made of iron, really incredible - hope he wins RG now. Really don't want Nadal to win 7th. Murray isn't going to do it (hahahahaha he'll lose tomrrow) and Fed is useless so its on Djoko not to fuck this up please.

Amazing how he wussed out a lot of the time.

So pissed at Del Potro's knee. I'm assuming that's what it was.

xyzzzz__, Tuesday, 5 June 2012 20:02 (thirteen years ago)

I'm not anti-Rafa but I really want to see History Being Made etc etc

sadly I think I have to stick to my original prediction I made at the AO - Rafa halts the NOLESLAM in the final. Djokovic is ironman and mental GOAT but he is just not playing well enough.

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Tuesday, 5 June 2012 20:09 (thirteen years ago)

Same here. Not anti-Rafa, ton of respect for the guy and what he did to make it interesting when Fed was god for those 3-4 years.

But also love to see Djoko win the French Open, never mind the slam - you'd think he'd eventually do it but injuries and the like are always around the corner...can't say it will happen next year.

Reckon he has a good shot, not playing as well but he's the only guy who has ever worried Rafa. That's got to count for something.

xyzzzz__, Tuesday, 5 June 2012 20:21 (thirteen years ago)

Thinking of writing a letter of thanks to our Madge -- wouldn't have been able to watch if it wasn't for this Jub nonsense.

xyzzzz__, Tuesday, 5 June 2012 20:22 (thirteen years ago)

Yeah, "useless Fed" into his 31st Slam semi. I would LOVE IT if he won this again.

Michael Jones, Tuesday, 5 June 2012 21:09 (thirteen years ago)

Sorry Michael, that was poor from me. You know I love him and his sole French Open victory is one of my top tennis watching moments ever.

But I doubt he could beat Nadal. Some of those finals were some of my worst tennis watching experiences.

xyzzzz__, Wednesday, 6 June 2012 06:11 (thirteen years ago)

i love all four of these women :( which is kind of dull :( definitely rooting for maria. and probz rooting for shvedova i guess! sharapova/kvitova matches suck

uberweiss, Wednesday, 6 June 2012 12:18 (thirteen years ago)

(not that maria needs my support - the likelihood of kanepi managing to beat her is approx 0%)

uberweiss, Wednesday, 6 June 2012 12:22 (thirteen years ago)

Shvedova leads 3-0 oh god oh god oh god cancel this tournament immediately

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Wednesday, 6 June 2012 12:26 (thirteen years ago)

Azarenka/Sharapova then Stosur/Sharapova. This year literally could not have given me less palatable Slam finals. CANCEL THE WTA PLEASE

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Wednesday, 6 June 2012 12:28 (thirteen years ago)

wow maria just hit a good volley

uberweiss, Wednesday, 6 June 2012 12:51 (thirteen years ago)

Maria broken on a DF. A dribble of hope.

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Wednesday, 6 June 2012 12:53 (thirteen years ago)

both of these matches are so rubbish

uberweiss, Wednesday, 6 June 2012 13:06 (thirteen years ago)

Maria is careless, Kaia is a wimp and Petra is in love with the back fence.

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Wednesday, 6 June 2012 13:07 (thirteen years ago)

This Ladbrokes advert is going to drive me to homicide

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Wednesday, 6 June 2012 13:09 (thirteen years ago)

how do you turn up to a grand slam QF match with this little enthusiasm or passion or interest

uberweiss, Wednesday, 6 June 2012 13:12 (thirteen years ago)

totally pathetic from Kanepi

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Wednesday, 6 June 2012 13:23 (thirteen years ago)

seriously

just wtf was that

not surprising but i mean jesus

uberweiss, Wednesday, 6 June 2012 13:24 (thirteen years ago)

from the limp and uninspiring to the energetic and passionate <3 shvedova <3 davaiiii

uberweiss, Wednesday, 6 June 2012 13:34 (thirteen years ago)

Kvitova can be so gooooood and then so baaaaad

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Wednesday, 6 June 2012 13:45 (thirteen years ago)

Somebody tell me what's going on - I'm out of the office and can't seem to access RG's livescore site.

Roz, Wednesday, 6 June 2012 13:54 (thirteen years ago)

Petra alternating randomly between stupidity and greatness basically. in the third set she went 2-0 up, then 2-4 down, and has pulled it back to 5-4 up (Shvedova to serve).

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Wednesday, 6 June 2012 14:00 (thirteen years ago)

First real signs of tightness from Yari...

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Wednesday, 6 June 2012 14:01 (thirteen years ago)

Two more points. Just hold off the Shitova alter ego for two more points.

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Wednesday, 6 June 2012 14:02 (thirteen years ago)

Oh god no

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Wednesday, 6 June 2012 14:04 (thirteen years ago)

God. Finally. Do better next time for fuck's sake.

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Wednesday, 6 June 2012 14:05 (thirteen years ago)

so it's a Masha/Petra semi then? I fear for Petra... anything but a Maria/Stosur final plz.

Roz, Wednesday, 6 June 2012 14:43 (thirteen years ago)

Like Nole vs Rafa I just don't think Petra is playing well enough to beat Maria...obviously she CAN but she's not showing any sign of getting her game under control enough.

Yahoo has a good video piece about how Errani can beat Stosur (pls ignore the shit Stone Roses cover backing music)

http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/video/06062012/58/hawkeye-errani-stop-stosur.html

Mark C, Thursday, 7 June 2012 10:07 (thirteen years ago)

Oh god the weather today.

abcfsk, Thursday, 7 June 2012 10:59 (thirteen years ago)

I wouldn't worry, damp conditions are as bad for Kvitova as Ma$habot.

Bless that Eurosport video but Errani has not faced a kick serve like Stosur's yet and everything will just bounce over her head, while her own lack of serve means even a bad returner like Stosur can just swing away without pressure.

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Thursday, 7 June 2012 11:04 (thirteen years ago)

Yeah but the match(es) will probably be messy affairs.

abcfsk, Thursday, 7 June 2012 11:36 (thirteen years ago)

play starting soon...

Roz, Thursday, 7 June 2012 13:13 (thirteen years ago)

Sam Smith talking about how the conditions are bad for Stosur...yes but NOT BAD ENOUGH :(

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Thursday, 7 June 2012 13:16 (thirteen years ago)

Stosur will have to choke like she's never choked before to lose this, and 1) she's not actually a choker, really, apart from at home, and her rep is unwarranted; 2) in any case this is not a particularly pressure-filled match

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Thursday, 7 June 2012 13:17 (thirteen years ago)

LOL. In her first service game, Errani wins 100% of her first serve points, 0% of her second serve ones, all of which Stosur just runs around and crushes a FH return. This is a sad match-up.

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Thursday, 7 June 2012 13:29 (thirteen years ago)

Well, really good tennis to break back. Once they're in the rally it's obvious who's better, it's just that rallies will comprise about 10% of the points. I HATE big servers.

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Thursday, 7 June 2012 13:31 (thirteen years ago)

breaks back immediately to love though! xpost

Roz, Thursday, 7 June 2012 13:31 (thirteen years ago)

seriously, how did Errani suddenly get so good this year? so sharp!

Roz, Thursday, 7 June 2012 13:35 (thirteen years ago)

Stosur's BH remains a crime against tennis.

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Thursday, 7 June 2012 13:43 (thirteen years ago)

YES! Errani breaks, will serve for the set. Playing SUCH a smart match.

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Thursday, 7 June 2012 14:03 (thirteen years ago)

SET POINTS c'mon c'mon c'mon

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Thursday, 7 June 2012 14:06 (thirteen years ago)

Takes it with a serve-FH combo! FORZA SARITA~~~~~~~

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Thursday, 7 June 2012 14:07 (thirteen years ago)

You can feel her little mind whirring on every point. The one where she hit a second serve to Stosur's FH after serving to her BH all match - Stosur was already trying to run around her BH and couldn't crush it like normal. The high balls to Stosur's BH designed to bring out prime Shanksur. Hitting the ball straight at Stosur at net. Those amazingly disguised dropshots <3

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Thursday, 7 June 2012 14:10 (thirteen years ago)

Also attacking Stosur's serve like a beast. Standing way inside the baseline... the kick can't climb high enough before she's on it.

Roz, Thursday, 7 June 2012 14:13 (thirteen years ago)

2nd serve points won - 11%. And WINNING!

pandemic, Thursday, 7 June 2012 14:20 (thirteen years ago)

Man, I really want Errani to pull this off now, but Stosur will probably win anyways.

justfanoe (Greg Fanoe), Thursday, 7 June 2012 14:21 (thirteen years ago)

Wasn't her nickname Unforced Errani? Seems a little inaccurate nowadays!

Mark C, Thursday, 7 June 2012 14:23 (thirteen years ago)

Even when she has time Stosur's backhands always always look rushed.

pandemic, Thursday, 7 June 2012 14:24 (thirteen years ago)

For the benefit of those of us who can't watch this, is Errani falling apart here or is Stosur stepping up her game?

justfanoe (Greg Fanoe), Thursday, 7 June 2012 14:27 (thirteen years ago)

Eh, Stosur's playing a few more points fractionally better than she was before, but both her service holds this set weren't exactly straightforward. Errani has dipped a bit I'd say.

pandemic, Thursday, 7 June 2012 14:30 (thirteen years ago)

bit of both. Stosur really trying to step in and attack, Errani just missing a bit more.

Roz, Thursday, 7 June 2012 14:31 (thirteen years ago)

Damn my timing. Come on Sara!

Mark C, Thursday, 7 June 2012 14:32 (thirteen years ago)

Okay that was much better from Stosur. Could see Errani regrouping in the 3rd tho. Perhaps wishful thinking, although I don't have the Stosur hate like some.

pandemic, Thursday, 7 June 2012 14:33 (thirteen years ago)

ew i'm here just in time for stosur to bagel errani :( wonderful :( she won a set tho?! 3rd set better not be this one-sided. FORZA SARA YOU CAN DO IT.

uberweiss, Thursday, 7 June 2012 14:34 (thirteen years ago)

This has the makings of a wonderfully nutty scoreLINA!

neil young & crazy town (edwardo), Thursday, 7 June 2012 14:37 (thirteen years ago)

Stosur's slice backhand is so high over the net it's ridiculous.

pandemic, Thursday, 7 June 2012 14:39 (thirteen years ago)

bagel DENIED.

pandemic, Thursday, 7 June 2012 14:40 (thirteen years ago)

Hahaha even at this point in the set Stosur's hands of stone still fuck up the easiest dropshot

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Thursday, 7 June 2012 14:40 (thirteen years ago)

Had some help, but nice hold for Errani.

pandemic, Thursday, 7 June 2012 14:49 (thirteen years ago)

errani is so winning this, i just know it :D forzaaaaaa

uberweiss, Thursday, 7 June 2012 14:50 (thirteen years ago)

Jesus that 2nd set, 0% 2nd service points won!

pandemic, Thursday, 7 June 2012 14:50 (thirteen years ago)

Stosur is profoundly stupid. At least in this match so far.

pandemic, Thursday, 7 June 2012 14:51 (thirteen years ago)

lol @ these shanks

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Thursday, 7 June 2012 14:52 (thirteen years ago)

pandemic, Thursday, 7 June 2012 14:52 (thirteen years ago)

BAGEL IT <3

my fave commentator davenport here for this glorious occasion as well <3

uberweiss, Thursday, 7 June 2012 14:53 (thirteen years ago)

the inevitability with which Stosur's HORRIBLE GROUNDSTROKES break down!

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Thursday, 7 June 2012 14:54 (thirteen years ago)

ugh have to leave now... hopefully will get home in time for an Errani win!

Roz, Thursday, 7 June 2012 14:54 (thirteen years ago)

Errani's serve is so negligent she has no business being in a GS Final. Then again I love the fact that she compensates for it enough to battle thru.

pandemic, Thursday, 7 June 2012 14:54 (thirteen years ago)

i seem to recall davenport beating errani like 8-6 in the 3rd at the aussie open 2008 or something. did i make that up? possibly

uberweiss, Thursday, 7 June 2012 14:55 (thirteen years ago)

"she's not a natural mover"
"she's not a great ballstriker"

love u lindsay

uberweiss, Thursday, 7 June 2012 14:55 (thirteen years ago)

stosur's attempts at volleys lolllllllll GO HOME

uberweiss, Thursday, 7 June 2012 14:58 (thirteen years ago)

LOL @ that slice
LOL @ that volley!

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Thursday, 7 June 2012 14:58 (thirteen years ago)

Gah, this is BRUTAL

pandemic, Thursday, 7 June 2012 14:58 (thirteen years ago)

If Maria were to win tonight I'd probably prefer Shankstur in a final, but can't quite get myself to cheer her on.

abcfsk, Thursday, 7 June 2012 14:58 (thirteen years ago)

fuck off if that errani approach to her forehand changes this match around :@ :@ why would you not approach to her backhand? like, why?

uberweiss, Thursday, 7 June 2012 15:00 (thirteen years ago)

oof

pandemic, Thursday, 7 June 2012 15:02 (thirteen years ago)

well that was an interesting shot...

uberweiss, Thursday, 7 June 2012 15:02 (thirteen years ago)

I can't believe Stosur is a Slam champion. I can't believe that was SERENA'S FAULT

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Thursday, 7 June 2012 15:02 (thirteen years ago)

Unforced Errani suddenly living up to her nickname right now ughhh

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Thursday, 7 June 2012 15:03 (thirteen years ago)

If Stosur starts serving like she did in the latter half of set 2 I think she'll probably win even whilst clanking her ground strokes like a weekender.

pandemic, Thursday, 7 June 2012 15:04 (thirteen years ago)

I can't believe Stosur is a Slam champion. I can't believe that was SERENA'S FAULT

no it was sharapova's fault for losing to pennetta

uberweiss, Thursday, 7 June 2012 15:05 (thirteen years ago)

woah

pandemic, Thursday, 7 June 2012 15:10 (thirteen years ago)

-_-

i mean, not that i really want errani in the french open final either but

uberweiss, Thursday, 7 June 2012 15:12 (thirteen years ago)

stosur's attempts at venturing to the net are so funny

uberweiss, Thursday, 7 June 2012 15:13 (thirteen years ago)

Women be not knowing what a good approach shot is.

neil young & crazy town (edwardo), Thursday, 7 June 2012 15:13 (thirteen years ago)

Haha Stosur pretty much donated that game to Errani. Just when it was needed

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Thursday, 7 June 2012 15:15 (thirteen years ago)

The shank to end all shanks!

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Thursday, 7 June 2012 15:16 (thirteen years ago)

Kill them now.

pandemic, Thursday, 7 June 2012 15:17 (thirteen years ago)

looooooooooooooool

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Thursday, 7 June 2012 15:17 (thirteen years ago)

Stosur's tactic of wolleying straight back to Errani is mildly amusing.

neil young & crazy town (edwardo), Thursday, 7 June 2012 15:18 (thirteen years ago)

Oh my god LOL

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Thursday, 7 June 2012 15:18 (thirteen years ago)

ME WANT HIT FOREHAND NOW

uberweiss, Thursday, 7 June 2012 15:19 (thirteen years ago)

jesus

pandemic, Thursday, 7 June 2012 15:19 (thirteen years ago)

This match is very bad, and I can't believe I've stayed up for it to watch Ma$ha/Petra, because that match will likely also be very bad.

neil young & crazy town (edwardo), Thursday, 7 June 2012 15:19 (thirteen years ago)

DF at 3-4 deuce in the semis of a slam, yes please <3

uberweiss, Thursday, 7 June 2012 15:21 (thirteen years ago)

followed by another forehand error from the backhand side <3

uberweiss, Thursday, 7 June 2012 15:21 (thirteen years ago)

Sara Errani will serve for a place in the RG final.

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Thursday, 7 June 2012 15:21 (thirteen years ago)

errani can you just not bother choking plz. can't be bothered w/ it

good first point!

uberweiss, Thursday, 7 June 2012 15:22 (thirteen years ago)

Yeah just close this match.

abcfsk, Thursday, 7 June 2012 15:22 (thirteen years ago)

Ahahahahaha what was that return, amazing

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Thursday, 7 June 2012 15:23 (thirteen years ago)

This has been mostly TERRIBLE.

BYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE STOSUR HEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHE :D :D :D

errani def sharapova final NID tho :/

uberweiss, Thursday, 7 June 2012 15:25 (thirteen years ago)

Well, let's say... that Errani will put up a better fight against Sharapova in the final than Stosur would, not that we'll ever know.

neil young & crazy town (edwardo), Thursday, 7 June 2012 15:25 (thirteen years ago)

Before I go, COME ON KVITOVA!

pandemic, Thursday, 7 June 2012 15:26 (thirteen years ago)

Though I'm not a Sharapova fan, I wouldn't mind seeing her win. Pretty nice that she was able to work her ass back off into being an elite player after losing her serve to that shoulder injury. Her best stroke! And she was already a multimillionaire at that point so there was not really even any need to do it.

justfanoe (Greg Fanoe), Thursday, 7 June 2012 15:40 (thirteen years ago)

I love Sharapova when she is competitive and I can't stand it when she is dominant; like, if she won a major in every 6 from this point out she would become one of my favorite players on the tour, but if she started winning them all the overexposure would irritate me to no end.

WHEY AHR MAH DREGUNS? (DJP), Thursday, 7 June 2012 15:43 (thirteen years ago)

Sharapova completing the Career Slam when Hingis, Venus, Henin all failed would be so wrong

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Thursday, 7 June 2012 15:52 (thirteen years ago)

don't worry she's not going to

uberweiss, Thursday, 7 June 2012 15:54 (thirteen years ago)

Awesome result to come home to. Yay Errani! (Don't really hate Stosur, but don't want her in any Slam finals ever. when she's playing well, she's so robotic and blah - just sucks the life out of a match.)

Now let's go, Petra!

Roz, Thursday, 7 June 2012 15:59 (thirteen years ago)

I did not realize Errani was in the doubles final as well

how fantastic would it be if she won both

WHEY AHR MAH DREGUNS? (DJP), Thursday, 7 June 2012 16:10 (thirteen years ago)

maria niculescu <3

uberweiss, Thursday, 7 June 2012 16:24 (thirteen years ago)

I did not realize Errani was in the doubles final as well

how fantastic would it be if she won both

very not remotely fantastic at all

uberweiss, Thursday, 7 June 2012 16:25 (thirteen years ago)

I wonder what Petra's BP conversion ratio against Maria is over their last three matches. Something like 0-9493434743934.

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Thursday, 7 June 2012 16:47 (thirteen years ago)

ugh I just knew that DF was coming.

Roz, Thursday, 7 June 2012 16:52 (thirteen years ago)

lol maria... we all know that was in :/

uberweiss, Thursday, 7 June 2012 17:03 (thirteen years ago)

uhoh petra is very pumped up after that. lolz

uberweiss, Thursday, 7 June 2012 17:05 (thirteen years ago)

So pumped up that she made four errors in a row to be broken. Ugh horrendous.

Roz, Thursday, 7 June 2012 17:08 (thirteen years ago)

wjkhlkdfdkldlbkfk the last two points of that game

done with you forever Petra you moron

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Thursday, 7 June 2012 17:09 (thirteen years ago)

God Petra how can someone be so brilliant and so idiotic at the same time?

Suddenly it's match point. :/

Roz, Thursday, 7 June 2012 17:10 (thirteen years ago)

GROSS

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Thursday, 7 June 2012 17:10 (thirteen years ago)

maria in a french open final omggggggggggg :)

please please please please please win this

uberweiss, Thursday, 7 June 2012 17:11 (thirteen years ago)

omg she's #1? :D

although i believe last time she turned #1 was when she lost the AO final 2007? :/

uberweiss, Thursday, 7 June 2012 17:13 (thirteen years ago)

We may have temporarily delighted in the Serena loss but this is the price we pay UGHHHHH

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Thursday, 7 June 2012 17:14 (thirteen years ago)

WE? -______________________________________-

uberweiss, Thursday, 7 June 2012 17:16 (thirteen years ago)

there is an unspoken rule that we do not talk about that

uberweiss, Thursday, 7 June 2012 17:16 (thirteen years ago)

Rankings mean fuck all if a slam doesn't follow. So worried about tricky clever Errani.

abcfsk, Thursday, 7 June 2012 17:16 (thirteen years ago)

But I liked the look in her eyes post-match interview because she's GRINDED to come this far.

abcfsk, Thursday, 7 June 2012 17:17 (thirteen years ago)

Maria ending this tournament by becoming slamless #1 and gifting us with ERRANISLAM is the only way it can redeem itself

but it's not gonna happen obviously, if Maria was going to choke it'd have happened today

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Thursday, 7 June 2012 17:21 (thirteen years ago)

how can you be a Slamless #1 if you've already won 3 Slams

also, how can she be considered illegitimate after making the final three out of the last 4 Slams?

WHEY AHR MAH DREGUNS? (DJP), Thursday, 7 June 2012 17:26 (thirteen years ago)

I mean, Wozniacki was considered illegitimate not just because she never won a Slam; she made it to the finals of a Slam once during the 67 weeks she was ranked #1

WHEY AHR MAH DREGUNS? (DJP), Thursday, 7 June 2012 17:29 (thirteen years ago)

slamless as in she doesn't hold a slam, as per Hingis in 2000-01, Clijsters in 2003, Davenport in 2004-05, Mauresmo in 2004

(moot point as she'll win tomorrow and hold a Slam, but if by some glorious miracle she loses to Errani, she'd be a slamless No 1)

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Thursday, 7 June 2012 18:16 (thirteen years ago)

I kind of prefer to think of Wozniacki, Jankovic, Safina et al as weak No 1s rather than "illegitimate" per se - there's nothing any ranking system can do with wacky results like we had in those years

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Thursday, 7 June 2012 18:17 (thirteen years ago)

Oh I totally agree re: the use of the term "illegitimate"; I used that term more to evoke the discourse around those players than to offer an actual critique on them.

WHEY AHR MAH DREGUNS? (DJP), Thursday, 7 June 2012 19:30 (thirteen years ago)

did the men play today? if so can someone give me the scores? thx

the route is ban (k3vin k.), Thursday, 7 June 2012 19:32 (thirteen years ago)

they did not

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Thursday, 7 June 2012 19:42 (thirteen years ago)

I mean, Wozniacki was considered illegitimate not just because she never won a Slam; she made it to the finals of a Slam once during the 67 weeks she was ranked #1

Actually zero times. Was seeded ninth at the USO she made finals of.

neil young & crazy town (edwardo), Thursday, 7 June 2012 21:30 (thirteen years ago)

yeah, I hadn't looked at the stats when I wrote that

WHEY AHR MAH DREGUNS? (DJP), Thursday, 7 June 2012 21:31 (thirteen years ago)

I fell asleep after the second game of the first set last night. Knew how it would go - Maria holds after a deuce, that's the end.

Actually was quite sure Errani would win, was telling everyone "Don't assume Stosur would win" (not here, IRL), but it was still... well let's just say it reminds me of the story of the guy who won "Press Your Luck" by memorising the patterns of the whammies. Stosur has like four patterns of rallying tops and Errani memorised them. For all that, she still only barely won.

I'd really be surprised if Sharapova loses more than four games.

neil young & crazy town (edwardo), Thursday, 7 June 2012 22:13 (thirteen years ago)

I just remembered Sharapova was a Slamless No 1 when she first got there, in 2005 - a few weeks after her Wim title dropped off iirc. And then again when Henin retired. In fact...when she wins tomorrow, would this be the first time she's held both a Slam AND the No 1 ranking?

Wozniacki vs Jankovic vs Safina for Worst No 1 is a fun game to play. It's probably Jankovic stats-wise, although she scores best on the metric that matters most to the general public, ie actually putting up a fight against top players in the latter rounds of Slams.

Is anyone planning to actually watch Ferrer/Nadal today? I feel like Ferrer/Murray took enough years off my life the other day. Hyped for the other match though!

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Friday, 8 June 2012 08:19 (thirteen years ago)

nah she held the #1 ranking at the start of 07 as well as winning the us open

i'm not watching any nadal matches at the french open that aren't against djokovic

uberweiss, Friday, 8 June 2012 11:26 (thirteen years ago)

ha, same here for nadal. it's actuallly kind of sad how almost all my tennis following friends don't even bother with nadal's matches anymore cos they feel like they have better things to do than watch yet another destruction of an OK to good player by rafa.

Jibe, Friday, 8 June 2012 11:29 (thirteen years ago)

Jankovic is easily the worst #1, but she gets off the hook because her reign at the top was a) shorter than Woz's, and b) less hilarious than Safina's.

neil young & crazy town (edwardo), Friday, 8 June 2012 11:34 (thirteen years ago)

and nadal is already 2 breaks up... couldn't he have a handicap or something at roland garros, like 10kg weights on each foot, or a mind swap with gasquet every other game or something?

Jibe, Friday, 8 June 2012 11:53 (thirteen years ago)

nothing worse than nadal vs a spanish player in a best of 5 set match

like, what's the point

uberweiss, Friday, 8 June 2012 11:57 (thirteen years ago)

The Nadal/Murray SF last year made me throw up because it went on for SO LONG and meant I nearly fell asleep through that great Fed/Nole SF.

neil young & crazy town (edwardo), Friday, 8 June 2012 12:50 (thirteen years ago)

dang I was hoping Ferru could prolong this match just a little bit more, so I can get home before Nole/Fed starts. No such luck, it seems.

Roz, Friday, 8 June 2012 13:57 (thirteen years ago)

oh never thought there'd be an excellent time for a rain delay but here it is.

Roz, Friday, 8 June 2012 14:30 (thirteen years ago)

oh thank god i need to finish some stuff before i can watch too

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Friday, 8 June 2012 14:40 (thirteen years ago)

Something that always elicits déjà vu in this match-up: neutral BH-to-BH rallies, Nole switches it up with his FH but Fed can anticipate and move so quickly and take the FH so early that Nole's aggression just comes back even faster and more angled.

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Friday, 8 June 2012 15:18 (thirteen years ago)

oof @ that Fed FH though.

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Friday, 8 June 2012 15:21 (thirteen years ago)

and that one. One break each.

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Friday, 8 June 2012 15:22 (thirteen years ago)

nothing worse than nadal vs a spanish player in a best of 5 set match

like, what's the point

Verdasco, AO 2009!

Michael Jones, Friday, 8 June 2012 15:23 (thirteen years ago)

that match was amazing

until verdasco lost the last game with like 2 or 3 DFs

uberweiss, Friday, 8 June 2012 15:28 (thirteen years ago)

Verdasco is a different case in that he doesn't play a B or C version of Nadal's game to start with, whereas Almagro/Ferrer do

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Friday, 8 June 2012 15:33 (thirteen years ago)

hahahaha yessssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss that rally

uberweiss, Friday, 8 June 2012 15:42 (thirteen years ago)

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Friday, 8 June 2012 15:42 (thirteen years ago)

Wow that game

Roz, Friday, 8 June 2012 15:44 (thirteen years ago)

Vandeweghe is THE WORST

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Friday, 8 June 2012 15:48 (thirteen years ago)

Whoa Fed's fired up

Roz, Friday, 8 June 2012 15:51 (thirteen years ago)

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Friday, 8 June 2012 15:51 (thirteen years ago)

Lololol ok that was terrible Roger

Roz, Friday, 8 June 2012 15:53 (thirteen years ago)

fed's shot off that lob was incredible

uberweiss, Friday, 8 June 2012 16:12 (thirteen years ago)

pity about the two FHs which followed, wtf

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Friday, 8 June 2012 16:14 (thirteen years ago)

want Nole to win but geez if Fed loses this set after being two breaks up...

Roz, Friday, 8 June 2012 16:15 (thirteen years ago)

he was a break up in the first, remember

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Friday, 8 June 2012 16:17 (thirteen years ago)

Nadal also lost to Ferrer in the AO last year but he was still recovering so that probably doesn't count.

justfanoe (Greg Fanoe), Friday, 8 June 2012 16:21 (thirteen years ago)

Fed serves for the set...15-40. Oh Roger.

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Friday, 8 June 2012 16:21 (thirteen years ago)

Wtf is this match?!

Roz, Friday, 8 June 2012 16:23 (thirteen years ago)

Broken again.

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Friday, 8 June 2012 16:23 (thirteen years ago)

So, since I can't watch, terrible serving or great returning, or both?

justfanoe (Greg Fanoe), Friday, 8 June 2012 16:24 (thirteen years ago)

Oh god he's losing this 7-5 isn't he?

Just a lot of goofy mid-rally errors, more like.

Roz, Friday, 8 June 2012 16:26 (thirteen years ago)

Fed's first serve has gone AWOL whenever he's been in the lead but it's less to do with the serve and more to do with Nole's great defense/Federror's appearance

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Friday, 8 June 2012 16:26 (thirteen years ago)

Instantly loses the first two points serving for tiebreak. Hilarious.

justfanoe (Greg Fanoe), Friday, 8 June 2012 16:28 (thirteen years ago)

Oh my god Fed.

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Friday, 8 June 2012 16:28 (thirteen years ago)

omg that was fucking awful

uberweiss, Friday, 8 June 2012 16:29 (thirteen years ago)

PEAK FEDERROR

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Friday, 8 June 2012 16:30 (thirteen years ago)

-facepalm-

In better news, Sara Errani's going home with at least one title!

Roz, Friday, 8 June 2012 16:31 (thirteen years ago)

Sara Errani won the doubles! DO THE DOUBLE SARITA

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Friday, 8 June 2012 16:32 (thirteen years ago)

Roger's UFEs count is truly horrendous - 39 to Djokovic's 13.

Roz, Friday, 8 June 2012 16:44 (thirteen years ago)

Tapping the ball right back to Nole when you're both at net, great tactic Fed.

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Friday, 8 June 2012 16:47 (thirteen years ago)

Well...I'd bet that Nole WON'T do with this break what Fed did with his.

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Friday, 8 June 2012 16:55 (thirteen years ago)

Lol otm. Fed's shanks are worse than Stosur's.

Roz, Friday, 8 June 2012 16:57 (thirteen years ago)

That wasn't even Federror, that was Stoserer.

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Friday, 8 June 2012 16:57 (thirteen years ago)

lol xp!

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Friday, 8 June 2012 16:58 (thirteen years ago)

Man really wish Pony hadn't lost to his knee.

Roz, Friday, 8 June 2012 16:59 (thirteen years ago)

I really want Federer to get broken one last time to lose here.

justfanoe (Greg Fanoe), Friday, 8 June 2012 17:01 (thirteen years ago)

I suddenly feel a bit short-changed. Is this it?

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Friday, 8 June 2012 17:04 (thirteen years ago)

Well...that point encapsulated it all. Fed hit a shot that would have won him the point against anyone else and Nole was just not fazed in the slightest.

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Friday, 8 June 2012 17:05 (thirteen years ago)

If this was Nole on the other side, he'd smack in a few good returns and win in five.

Roz, Friday, 8 June 2012 17:07 (thirteen years ago)

Well there it is. Meh.

Roz, Friday, 8 June 2012 17:07 (thirteen years ago)

Probably important that Nole got it done in straights, having had two five-setters already. Still think Rafa will win though.

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Friday, 8 June 2012 17:08 (thirteen years ago)

Yep. Didn't think Nole came off as particularly impressive, Fed was just a moron today.

Roz, Friday, 8 June 2012 17:11 (thirteen years ago)

Djoker Slam or Rafa officially sealing his status as clayGOAT?

A Nadal-Djokovic final at RG was what I wanted last year and this year's would have been better for the added drama if I didn't think Rafa's just looking way too strong for Nole right now.

Roz, Friday, 8 June 2012 17:21 (thirteen years ago)

Me too. Predicted that Rafa would halt the NOLESLAM at the AO, predicted it again before RG, predicting it again now.

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Friday, 8 June 2012 17:26 (thirteen years ago)

nole will win! :D

uberweiss, Friday, 8 June 2012 20:01 (thirteen years ago)

Realistically, the way Nadal has been playing on non-Madrid clay this season he's basically unbeatable though right? I mean, Djokovic will need to be at absolute peak form just to put up a fight.

justfanoe (Greg Fanoe), Friday, 8 June 2012 20:02 (thirteen years ago)

djokovic 6-2 7-5 6-2!! :D

uberweiss, Friday, 8 June 2012 20:09 (thirteen years ago)

Nadal 7-6 6-3 6-7 (<=DRAMA HERE) 6-1 (<=oh)

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Friday, 8 June 2012 20:23 (thirteen years ago)

Didn't see the SF but Djoko to win actually, just think Nadal will make more mistakes because of who is on the other side.

xyzzzz__, Friday, 8 June 2012 20:41 (thirteen years ago)

Come on, I know that Djoko has a chance, but that's crazy, Nadal crushed Djokovic both times they played on clay this year! (1 and 3 then 5 and 3)

justfanoe (Greg Fanoe), Friday, 8 June 2012 20:51 (thirteen years ago)

meanwhile much as the "crafty Errani can annoy nervous Sharapova" narrative is soooo tempting, it's not gonna happen

- match by match, Errani's run is not actually that surprising; you'd have given her a good chance vs Ivanovic, Sweta and Care Bear anywhere, and the shock Stosur match, we all saw what happened
- the "Sharapova falling apart in finals" narrative is mostly based on Wim and AO, but in terms of form and match-up you'd have favoured Petra and Vika anyway
- Sharapova is in a different class to Errani's opponents so far, and Errani is no Kvitova or Azarenka, so the narrative doesn't fit at all

:(

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Friday, 8 June 2012 21:03 (thirteen years ago)

i don't know if i can go on if sharapova loses this

at some point there's got to be a final straw

uberweiss, Friday, 8 June 2012 21:09 (thirteen years ago)

Maria is awesome, determined, and a beaut - grunt away, Maria!

Djoko certainly has a chance - he has beaten Nadal on clay. Recent form would say none, but few gave Djoko a chance last year at Wimbledon and Nadal played a shocker for much of the time. Obv Clay is his best but Djoko totally unnerves him, which is huge considering no one else does.

xyzzzz__, Friday, 8 June 2012 21:10 (thirteen years ago)

Djokovic unnerved him at Wimbledon last year because by then, he had already beaten Rafa in four straight finals (including two on clay) and was on a 49-match winning streak, save for the RG semi vs Fed.

That isn't true this year, when Rafa has just dominated the clay season and comes in with much more self-belief. I actually think the turning point was AO - even though he lost the match, it was so close that Rafa knew it would have only taken a few points here and there for him to undo his Djokovic jinx.

Roz, Saturday, 9 June 2012 04:00 (thirteen years ago)

You would've thought the RG vs Fed last year would have been it for Djokovic, he hadn't much of a record at Wimbledon and was in his first final. And yet he beat him with much to spare and went on a run for the rest of the year.

Looking at those points D played against Tsonga makes me think he has recovered from the clay season slump just in time...all to be revealed tomorrow.

xyzzzz__, Saturday, 9 June 2012 09:10 (thirteen years ago)

i'm so excited!

why was i teased with the possibility of davenport commentating? amelie mauresmo is an idiot, mark petchey is an idiot and sam smith seems very angry all the time, probably because she's in the company of two idiots

uberweiss, Saturday, 9 June 2012 13:21 (thirteen years ago)

Maria already won as many games as she did in her last slam final. "woo".

uberweiss, Saturday, 9 June 2012 13:23 (thirteen years ago)

fuuuuuuck at that backhand crosscourt exchange and then maria's backhand DTL! incredible :D

uberweiss, Saturday, 9 June 2012 13:25 (thirteen years ago)

that errani's 6 previous opponents couldn't expose that serve is worrying

uberweiss, Saturday, 9 June 2012 13:27 (thirteen years ago)

Blimey that rally was MUCH better.

katstevens, Saturday, 9 June 2012 13:48 (thirteen years ago)

6-3 6-0 please. Like the AO final but reversed.

uberweiss, Saturday, 9 June 2012 13:56 (thirteen years ago)

Err coming in at the net a bit more...girl's gotta try something.

xyzzzz__, Saturday, 9 June 2012 13:59 (thirteen years ago)

xyzzzz__, Saturday, 9 June 2012 14:02 (thirteen years ago)

Point of the match, two smashes from Err finally sealing it

xyzzzz__, Saturday, 9 June 2012 14:04 (thirteen years ago)

Err making Maria sweat for it

xyzzzz__, Saturday, 9 June 2012 14:14 (thirteen years ago)

Given the circumstances, and given how well Maria is playing, I'd say that Errani put up a decent fight. At least, she didn't embarrass herself.

justfanoe (Greg Fanoe), Saturday, 9 June 2012 14:32 (thirteen years ago)

Hey that champ point was a great rally.

justfanoe (Greg Fanoe), Saturday, 9 June 2012 14:41 (thirteen years ago)

The end of that was pretty great, really.

Victory Chainsaw! (DJP), Saturday, 9 June 2012 14:43 (thirteen years ago)

I'm so happy. It happened in such a great way. My hands are prickly because blood doesn't seem to flow normall.y

abcfsk, Saturday, 9 June 2012 14:44 (thirteen years ago)

Wonderful :)

uberweiss, Saturday, 9 June 2012 14:45 (thirteen years ago)

3 years of pain and it was worth it

abcfsk, Saturday, 9 June 2012 14:45 (thirteen years ago)

She's an 'old' player coming back and winning a Slam. But also #1, also leading the race - she's been grinding the tour to get here. Feels so good.

Margaret Court, Chris Evert, Martina Navratilova, Steffi Graf, Serena Williams and Maria !

abcfsk, Saturday, 9 June 2012 14:49 (thirteen years ago)

All that hard work she's put in when she could've just retired with her millions

uberweiss, Saturday, 9 June 2012 14:56 (thirteen years ago)

And Errani played pretty well! Yeah the end was good. Held to win but with some unyielding opposition.

Maria sneaking in English, French, Spanish and Russian in that speech. I just feel twenty kilo lighter and I can watch the match again and enjoy it.

abcfsk, Saturday, 9 June 2012 15:30 (thirteen years ago)

I am happy for abcfsk and uberweiss!

Watched a couple of points midway through, they were good, did not want to see the end though.

Soooooo this takes Maria above the 3xSlam winners, obviously - Wade, Davenport, Capriati. Well, she was already above Capriati, certainly. And she leapfrogs all the 4xSlam winners - ASV, Clijsters, Mandlikova - none of whom got the Career Slam. There'd certainly be an argument that Sharapova's Career Slam trumps Hingis's extra Slam, though I think Hingis might win that back due to the extent of her dominance in her prime. I anticipate many many battles between those fanbases in the near future.

Justine and Venus never got the Career Slam but I think 7 is still too far ahead of 4 for that to be an argument. When/if Sharapova gets to 6, then we can talk.

I'm not a fan of "weak era" or "weak opponents" arguments so I can't really make one about this clay era :( You beat who's in front of you.

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Saturday, 9 June 2012 15:45 (thirteen years ago)

https://p.twimg.com/Au9sYUaCIAQtrz4.jpg

abcfsk, Saturday, 9 June 2012 17:33 (thirteen years ago)

Hingis still > Sharapova. But I'd be tempted to put Hingis on par with a hypothetical 6-slam winner (one who didn't have the set) just because she was so dominant, her 3W+1F year, stacks of weeks at #1 and so on. But if Sharapova wins W, seriously must be in contention to say "as good as Venus". It is a weak clay era, but the clay's fairly quick on some of the bigger point clay titles so I don't see why anyone would bother to adapt their game to clay other than out of necessity these days.

I'm moderately happy for this because tbqh I don't actually like Errani much, other than as someone who took out Ivanovic and her winning wouldn't give me the same "lol this is nuts but it's amazing" as it did with Fran. And it restores some actual order in the WTA with its head being someone with an actually imposing game, rather than stupid Azarenka and her nothing serve and nothing forehand getting lucky over and over and over again. Maria won this without help from choking opponents, too.

neil young & crazy town (edwardo), Saturday, 9 June 2012 21:55 (thirteen years ago)

er, if Sharapova wins W + something else, she's probably as good as Venus (they both are Serena's bitch in finals). Give her W and she trumps Hingis, though.

neil young & crazy town (edwardo), Saturday, 9 June 2012 21:56 (thirteen years ago)

Errani kind of won me over this tournament, though I'm not exactly a fan yet.

New rankings!

1. Maria Sharapova (2)
2. Victoria Azarenka (1)

I am starting to have hope in US women's tennis again; looks like there can be life after the Williams sisters

Victory Chainsaw! (DJP), Sunday, 10 June 2012 12:12 (thirteen years ago)

Is there anywhere you can watch this on the internet? I don't have a tv.

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Sunday, 10 June 2012 13:20 (thirteen years ago)

Rafa on fire already

Roz, Sunday, 10 June 2012 13:20 (thirteen years ago)

Thanks. Should be quite a match.

Popture, Sunday, 10 June 2012 13:22 (thirteen years ago)

Haha @ Rafa's shoes with "6" on them. I wonder if he has another pair with "7" in his bag to wear at the ceremony. Just like Roger!

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Sunday, 10 June 2012 13:26 (thirteen years ago)

Damn Nadal is looking pretty unbeatable right now.

justfanoe (Greg Fanoe), Sunday, 10 June 2012 13:30 (thirteen years ago)

Rafa is ON so far.

NoTimeBeforeTime, Sunday, 10 June 2012 13:30 (thirteen years ago)

Rafa's FH in beast mode

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Sunday, 10 June 2012 13:30 (thirteen years ago)

Whoa that rally

Roz, Sunday, 10 June 2012 13:41 (thirteen years ago)

Nice to see Djoko stepping it up here. Pretty sure this isn't what Federer would have done.

justfanoe (Greg Fanoe), Sunday, 10 June 2012 13:41 (thirteen years ago)

Yeah a double break down, I was thinking...BAGEL?

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Sunday, 10 June 2012 13:44 (thirteen years ago)

well this is slightly better

djokovic can't play much worse. all these errors wtf

uberweiss, Sunday, 10 June 2012 13:46 (thirteen years ago)

Nole's defense = so BOSS.

Roz, Sunday, 10 June 2012 13:51 (thirteen years ago)

Rafa DF :o

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Sunday, 10 June 2012 13:54 (thirteen years ago)

YEEEEEEEEEES :D

uberweiss, Sunday, 10 June 2012 13:54 (thirteen years ago)

Wow. Nole erases that double break lead already.

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Sunday, 10 June 2012 13:55 (thirteen years ago)

Lol so it's not just Fed then.

Roz, Sunday, 10 June 2012 13:55 (thirteen years ago)

uberweiss, Sunday, 10 June 2012 14:01 (thirteen years ago)

THAT GOES FOR YOUR SERVES AS WELL! JESUS CHRIST

uberweiss, Sunday, 10 June 2012 14:01 (thirteen years ago)

It's ok, he'll break back and win this 7-5. ;)

Roz, Sunday, 10 June 2012 14:02 (thirteen years ago)

Man that return was ridiculous.

justfanoe (Greg Fanoe), Sunday, 10 June 2012 14:04 (thirteen years ago)

It's quite an entertaining novelty seeing both these two mental GOATs so obviously shaking with as many nerves as the lowliest Women's Tennis choker, but it'd be nice if they could start hitting the ball in the court soon.

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Sunday, 10 June 2012 14:05 (thirteen years ago)

No, that's not the court, Nole

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Sunday, 10 June 2012 14:06 (thirteen years ago)

i can't accept these errors

uberweiss, Sunday, 10 June 2012 14:06 (thirteen years ago)

nadal just playing some serious defense right now

the route is ban (k3vin k.), Sunday, 10 June 2012 14:06 (thirteen years ago)

uberweiss, Sunday, 10 June 2012 14:16 (thirteen years ago)

Guga and Guga jr! http://twitpic.com/9uyqcy

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Sunday, 10 June 2012 14:38 (thirteen years ago)

Haha Djokovic, best lobber of all time!

justfanoe (Greg Fanoe), Sunday, 10 June 2012 14:47 (thirteen years ago)

Another amazing lob to break back. I'd like to think that's a turning point, but service breaks and momentum haven't meant much so far.

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Sunday, 10 June 2012 14:47 (thirteen years ago)

Is there a reason Rafa just seems uninterested in running after those lobs? Knee protection?

Roz, Sunday, 10 June 2012 14:48 (thirteen years ago)

followed by another fucking DF of course

is his last name safina?

uberweiss, Sunday, 10 June 2012 14:48 (thirteen years ago)

Is there a reason Rafa just seems uninterested in running after those lobs? Knee protection?

you can't chase that topspin down i don't think

uberweiss, Sunday, 10 June 2012 14:49 (thirteen years ago)

They're both so on edge

Roz, Sunday, 10 June 2012 14:51 (thirteen years ago)

classy from djokovic

uberweiss, Sunday, 10 June 2012 14:57 (thirteen years ago)

Wow, Djokovic got really lucky with the call there...but conceded the point anyway!

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Sunday, 10 June 2012 14:58 (thirteen years ago)

i really hate the way the crowd always feels compelled to whistle when someone asks to check the mark on a point.

Jibe, Sunday, 10 June 2012 15:00 (thirteen years ago)

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Sunday, 10 June 2012 15:02 (thirteen years ago)

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Sunday, 10 June 2012 15:04 (thirteen years ago)

Oh Nole...

Roz, Sunday, 10 June 2012 15:04 (thirteen years ago)

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Sunday, 10 June 2012 15:05 (thirteen years ago)

Roz, Sunday, 10 June 2012 15:06 (thirteen years ago)

uberweiss, Sunday, 10 June 2012 15:08 (thirteen years ago)

i can't go on w/ these forehands

uberweiss, Sunday, 10 June 2012 15:09 (thirteen years ago)

Rafa going for his inside-out FH - sign of growing confidence. Nole needs to step it up again NOW.

Roz, Sunday, 10 June 2012 15:09 (thirteen years ago)

Rain delay! This could be good for him.

Roz, Sunday, 10 June 2012 15:11 (thirteen years ago)

Why did the RG organisers start a match between these two on a rainy day at THREE IN THE AFTERNOON?

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Sunday, 10 June 2012 15:17 (thirteen years ago)

Wow they're really kicking this off ITV1 for some fucking football? I have ITV4 so it's OK but seriously PUT THE FOOTBALL OVER THERE

Wimbledon may also be disrupted :-D

Ah, crap, D can't buy a first serve today :-(

xyzzzz__, Sunday, 10 June 2012 15:22 (thirteen years ago)

Scheduling seems especially stupid considering what happened at their last Slam final...

Weather forecasters saying it could be a 30 min delay.

Roz, Sunday, 10 June 2012 15:24 (thirteen years ago)

oh cool, john and patrick mcenroe won the men's legends doubles

the route is ban (k3vin k.), Sunday, 10 June 2012 15:27 (thirteen years ago)

i saw a point when they played mats wilander and someone else

patrick mcenroe hit a volley long and smashed his racket

it was pretty depressing

uberweiss, Sunday, 10 June 2012 15:32 (thirteen years ago)

Wimbledon may also be disrupted :-D

if this happens i shall RAMPAGE

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Sunday, 10 June 2012 15:34 (thirteen years ago)

groovemaaan, Sunday, 10 June 2012 16:00 (thirteen years ago)

I predicted an anticlimactic Rafa win before the match and so it has come to pass

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Sunday, 10 June 2012 16:03 (thirteen years ago)

Though tbh I'm surprised anyone wins money off betting on men's tennis these days, everything is so predictable. I got 7/8 QFists and all 4 SFists and I don't even feel that proud

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Sunday, 10 June 2012 16:04 (thirteen years ago)

Well that break back came out of nowhere.

Was rooting for Nole but honestly not minding a Rafa win. Wish this was a better match tho.

Roz, Sunday, 10 June 2012 16:05 (thirteen years ago)

Wow is Nole gonna take a token third set before succumbing in four?

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Sunday, 10 June 2012 16:17 (thirteen years ago)

Well this is interesting...

Roz, Sunday, 10 June 2012 16:17 (thirteen years ago)

Nole actually playing somewhat well now. I just don't believe that coming all the way back from two sets and a break down against Rafa at RG is a thing that can be done, though.

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Sunday, 10 June 2012 16:23 (thirteen years ago)

But if someone -could- pull it off, it's Nole

Roz, Sunday, 10 June 2012 16:25 (thirteen years ago)

And surely they wouldn't have time to play five today, which would help him...

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Sunday, 10 June 2012 16:30 (thirteen years ago)

Six games in a row is quite something though. Massive kudos for that fightback, Nole.

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Sunday, 10 June 2012 16:33 (thirteen years ago)

beast

mookieproof, Sunday, 10 June 2012 16:33 (thirteen years ago)

yay for the token set! :D maybe he can lead 1-0 40-0 or something like i believe federer did last year.

uberweiss, Sunday, 10 June 2012 16:33 (thirteen years ago)

Ya seriously, who takes six games in a row off Rafael Nadal? Amazing.

Roz, Sunday, 10 June 2012 16:36 (thirteen years ago)

holy fucking shit what a point

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Sunday, 10 June 2012 16:38 (thirteen years ago)

Omg what a drop shot

Roz, Sunday, 10 June 2012 16:39 (thirteen years ago)

Hahahahahahaha apparently it's gonna piss down all day tomorrow.

Seriously it would serve the moronic RG organisers right if this went to an epic 5th set and didn't finish until Wednesday or whatever.

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Sunday, 10 June 2012 16:40 (thirteen years ago)

OMGGGGGG that angle on that BH

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Sunday, 10 June 2012 16:43 (thirteen years ago)

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Sunday, 10 June 2012 16:46 (thirteen years ago)

uberweiss, Sunday, 10 June 2012 16:46 (thirteen years ago)

Oh this is poor from Rafa. Focus on your play, not on the balls, dude!

Roz, Sunday, 10 June 2012 16:47 (thirteen years ago)

blame it on the rain

mookieproof, Sunday, 10 June 2012 16:48 (thirteen years ago)

seriously why on earth did they start at 3pm

is there some logic that i'm not understanding

it just seems so obvious

so we americans don't have to wake up at 5 am

Roz, Sunday, 10 June 2012 17:18 (thirteen years ago)

postponed until 1 PM tomorrow

NoTimeBeforeTime, Sunday, 10 June 2012 18:00 (thirteen years ago)

meh Spain draws with Italy. Too bad Rafa, ain't no draws in tennis (and thank god for that!)

Roz, Sunday, 10 June 2012 18:01 (thirteen years ago)

1pm tomorrow. I wonder if I can switch between the first day of Queen's and this final for maximum disorientation.

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Sunday, 10 June 2012 18:01 (thirteen years ago)

(How about starting at 1pm TODAY. That would have been an idea.)

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Sunday, 10 June 2012 18:02 (thirteen years ago)

Also, Halle can probably forget about Rafa showing up. LL, prepare yourself!

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Sunday, 10 June 2012 18:03 (thirteen years ago)

ughhh annoying

i could've just switched off itv4 an hour ago then. i nearly broke my neck finding the remote to switch it off when they started showing a certain french open first round match

uberweiss, Sunday, 10 June 2012 18:07 (thirteen years ago)

i had to do the same and desperately try to find something watchable on another channel when they started showing a certain final

haven't switched it off yet though!

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Sunday, 10 June 2012 18:09 (thirteen years ago)

PUTA MADRE MAN!!

Rain might have saved Nadal here, but some on Nole - lets dream for tonight!

xyzzzz__, Sunday, 10 June 2012 23:01 (thirteen years ago)

so when did nadal last lose eight straight games, let alone on clay in the french open finals?

mookieproof, Monday, 11 June 2012 00:00 (thirteen years ago)

Never at RG obvs, but on clay, against Federer in Hamburg in 2007. The last time Nadal lost seven games in a row on any surface was also against Fed, last year at the WTFs.

Roz, Monday, 11 June 2012 07:21 (thirteen years ago)

sigh I'm going to have to watch this on delay - I took the late shift at work thinking that I would have had to stay up for the final last night, didn't cross my mind that the match might be suspended.

Roz, Monday, 11 June 2012 07:26 (thirteen years ago)

Neil Harman ‏@NeilHarmanTimes

It has been dry since 12 o'clock WHY DIDN'T WE START THEN????

The Nadal-Djokovic French Open final will be shown following "The Best Steam Mop Ever" TV program on the NBC Sports Channel in the USA!

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Monday, 11 June 2012 10:41 (thirteen years ago)

They are out now.

Jim Courier said that there were 6x unforced errors on the Nadal FH between 2-0 and 3-2 in the 3rd.

So glad I'm off to watch this, esp if D wins.

xyzzzz__, Monday, 11 June 2012 11:07 (thirteen years ago)

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Monday, 11 June 2012 11:12 (thirteen years ago)

Yeah, that ws funny.

Not sure they can put a roof on this court, a bit like the US, quite a few modifications to be made (?)

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Monday, 11 June 2012 11:53 (thirteen years ago)

The destroyer of people's calendar slam dreams!!

xyzzzz__, Monday, 11 June 2012 12:03 (thirteen years ago)

I can't believe that ended on a double fault. Safina's ghost haunts this stadium.

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Monday, 11 June 2012 12:03 (thirteen years ago)

Was that a key break in each of the three sets he lost that Nole handed over with a DF? NOVAK DJEMENTIEVA.

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Monday, 11 June 2012 12:11 (thirteen years ago)

Hahaha French housemate trying not to laugh at both their attempts at le français

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Monday, 11 June 2012 12:20 (thirteen years ago)

Rafa, that trophy is going to BITE YOU BACK one day, it must be pretty sick of this abuse by now.

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Monday, 11 June 2012 12:22 (thirteen years ago)

Roll of honour

Men's singles: Rafael Nadal
Women's singles: Maria Sharapova
Men's doubles: Max Mirnyi & Daniel Nestor
Women's doubles: Sara Errani & Roberta Vinci
Mixed doubles: Sania Mirza & Mahesh Bhupathi
Boys' singles: Kimmer Coppejans
Girls' singles: Annika Beck
Boys' doubles: Andrew Harris & Nick Kyrgios
Girls' doubles: Daria Gavrilova & Irina Khromacheva

Serious side-eye at the girls' winner; Beck is already top 200 in the pros and has been playing WTA qualies regularly this year, including at RG. She may still be 18 but WTF is she doing slumming it in juniors with the babies? Let's hear it for the runner-up instead, Anna-Karolina Schmiedlova.

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Monday, 11 June 2012 12:32 (thirteen years ago)

so I did manage to see this live after all, albeit on mute, while waiting in a lobby. Was sort of glad it ended quickly, but at the same time, that last game was just ;_;. Especially given Nole's recent record when down match points.

Roz, Monday, 11 June 2012 20:30 (thirteen years ago)

yeesh Rafa, use the goddamn safe or give it to Uncle Toni or something. This is the second time he's let this ridiculously expensive watch get stolen.
