Yeah, the man on the street bits are sometimes a little too Improv Everywhere! for my taste. I greatly prefer when he's fucking with people who've voluntarily entered his world.

(I guess I'm generally down when there's even the mildest level of "victim" complicity, because Nathan For You handled its civilian mindfuckery beautifully.)

Season 3 starts November 6! Awesome. I rewatched the first two seasons in one sitting with my sibs last Christmas and laughed harder than I can remember laughing in years. Looking forward to making this a regular, ever-expanding holiday tradition.

i was prepared to see him smash shit for 10 minutes like last year's season finale, or 1 idea that would consume the entire episode. the monologue and the argument with hannibal was a little longer than usual, so i think they were fucking with any similar minded viewers to give the impression just for a moment that the monologue would last for 10 minutes. and then bird up happened.

EA: All motivation is defined by intention. If the intention is to hurt, divide, or belittle, it’s wrong; if it’s an attempt to cope with or make sense of tragedy, it’s something different. If it’s commenting on society’s flaws, versus adding to society’s flaws, I think the audience can tell.

I try not to harshly judge anyone who isn't an outright asshole to Nardwuar. The inability to prepare and compose oneself for his assault has to be trying. With that as the baseline, the people who are cool and roll with it seem like the most amazing people ever (Hannibal's was predictably super-chill).

I think it was just contrasting levels of weirdness, Andre's anarchy vs. Nardwuar's preternatural composure. Andre is all about getting a rise, Nardwuar is all about monomaniacal single gear consistency. Has Nardwuar ever broken character?

This one's similar to his Fred Armisen video – also really not into it, but also probably using his brief non-performing time before going in public to do an interview he didn't expect would be exhausting. But Andre and Armisen are also alpha exhausters themselves. I imagine a Narduwar / Zach Galifanakis interview would go the same way.

Turned out it was actually from him...from nine years prior. He wanted me to join him in a noise band and play backyard wrestling events in Brooklyn. I tweeted a screenshot of the email at him and wrote something like, "Hey, just found this...I'm up for it if you're still up for it," but didn't hear back.

Bad Trip isn't really VERY bad. It's possibly the most unapologetically dumb thing I've ever seen (there's a lengthy scene where Eric breaks into a zoo cage and is repeatedly raped by a gorilla in front of a tour group of unsuspecting patrons) but it somehow keeps moving the chains.

i mean, to be clear, it IS really very bad. but it's watchable!

Thank u 4 reminder to record the encore presentations overnite, missing the season premieres would have been tragic.

first two episodes are not good. mostly callbacks to old gags and lots of guests who are clearly aware they're walking into a goof. everything has felt stale and canned so far.

All true but for some reason watching it on a whim over lunch without any expectations I still idly enjoyed it. My critical brain was totally not paying attention.

i mean i'll keep watching it! but these felt particularly unengaged to me and, given eric's generally uninspired work since s4 wrapped, i'm a little worried

s5e4 starts off a little slow but is one of the better eps in many seasons.

I've been doing my umpteenth rewatch of the series before starting the new season. I've seen it all enough at this point that it's a pleasant surprise when, say, tap sensation Savion Glover still somehow catches me off guard and sends me into fits.

Blasted through s2-5 over the past couple of days (the latter for the first time). Season 5 really only suffers in comparison to four previous seasons of maybe the funniest show of all time. That's a lot to live up to. It's just too bad that the funniest bit of the season (The Pageant) happened at the absolute end of the season.

i saw him live a few years ago and i laughed for like 10 mins straight but a big part of that is that he brought a local old guy on stage for a bit and he somehow managed to pull the perfect weird old french man

None other than EA, waiting on a date (?)... a tall gal sauntered in just after us to approach him on the bench... first date/tinder vibes.

He and I made eye contact and I gave him a knowing nod. He seemed almost shy/vulnerable in person, he was dressed well. We both were tbh.
