I've seen three of these: The Good Shepherd, Insomnia, and Angels in America. Pacino was quite good in the latter two--Insomnia gets my vote.

Insomnia was ok but seeing that his character was called DORMER makes me like it less now

I've reviewed a couple of terrible RdN films, Limitless and Everybody's Fine. Aside from that, only saw The Score (best of the theatrical films), The Good Shepherd, and Angels in America. So, Roy Cohn.

pacino seems like he still loves acting and does things because they're interesting to him, even if hes become a bit of a caricature.

Didn't realize Insomnia was a remake; I'd also forgotten it was directed by Nolan. Having Pacino play a character who's been up for days was a great way to rein in his bombast.

The only movies on this list that I've seen are Gigli, Angels in America, the first twenty minutes of Limitless (DeNiro didn't appear yet), and a chunk of Meet the Parents on cable. I'll go with Meet the Parents, I guess?

All those Jacks these guys played reminds me of the Peter and Paul bit from Goodfellas.

Stopped watching after 16 seconds in order to preserve the man's dignity. But yeah, I stand corrected.

strangely, De Niro's performance in The Good Shepherd is probably the best in the film, and he bothered to direct it whatever the reason.

The Good Shepherd trembles at the point of being a good movie so many times.

yeah i dig the good shepherd. i need to see it again. pesci's the best dude in the movie though

the only thing that impressed me about the good shepherd is that it wasn't warmed over Scorsese. Then they got to the "Damon hugging daughter intercut with his daughter's boyfriend being thrown from a plane" scene and I realized it was just warmed over Coppola. Which is admittedly a bit more novel these days.

Heard good things about Insomnia but had already seen the original and it wasn't different enough to excite. I actually will go to bat for Meet The Fockers, but DeNiro's the worst thing in it. I haven't seen The Score but I'm going with that over Meet The Parents and Machete. Can't say I recall enjoying Pacino in any of his that I've seen.

playing a laid back retired burglar who ran a jazz club seemed to put DeNiro in a less butthurt mood than usual.

Also: Matt Damon playing a blank WASP psychopath better done in the Bourne films.

It's funny to me that in the first DeNiro/Pacino movie they have no scenes together and it's a classic. The second they have one scene together and lots of people love it. The third they share the screen plenty and nobody gives a fuck.

iirc The Score is just this mellow little heist movie with DeNiro humoring Edward Norton's eager beaver one-upmanship amid the plan-making/bungling/etc. Throw in a bunch of random Brando wackiness and I'm kind of surprised I haven't seen it again since the theaters.

I was thinking about aging actors who seem to prefer being in any damn thing instead of holding out for a good one recently, and then remembered Ray Milland. Though unlike DeNiro, I don't know that Milland should have been set for life financially.

Pacino's fun in Ocean's 13. Good in Insomnia and Angels.

If the poll was just DeNiro, I'd have to go with What Just Happened.

It's like this started out as someone's idea that we would be looking at a bickering family, but then the digital-camera image would be the "everybody's fine" pose -- and then someone got scared last-minute and cut the joke and just made the two images the same.

Pacino is amazing in Angels.. imo.

Pacino comes off much better in this lot than De Niro imo. Hide And Seek and Everybody's Fine are two of the worst movies i've ever been bored enough to watch, and Pacino's worst besides the De Niro-assisted Righteous Kill is probably 88 Minutes, which is at least entertainingly shitty.

Christine Ebersole has done a lot of work on Broadway and also has some interesting political ideas.

no one ever should have suggested to deniro that he could be funny, i guess it started with analyze this but i think the meet the parents movies have really been his downfall, now he thinks he can do family-friendly comedy. he was one of the worst SNL hosts i've ever seen and that includes non-actors.

it def started with Analyze This - I believe De Niro himself has said that up to that point he didn't realize how "easy" it was to make comedy movies/$$$

De Niro's very funny in Jackie Brown, just like he is in Mean Streets and The King of Comedy, and, when required to be, in Taxi Driver and The Deer Hunter. He was often funny before (or maybe until--haven't seen them myself) he started making funny movies.

Somehow forgot to list Goodfellas. Raging Bull, too--playing mini-golf, the dead bird, the stuff with his first wife. The more I thought about it, he's actually not very funny in The Deer Hunter, where Cazale and the big guy with the beard get the jokes. There might be a couple of moments at the wedding where he's funny.

Looking back, DeNiro had some pretty good roles in the '90s, perhaps better than Pacino's good '90s roles and none really as bad as Pacino's bad '90s work.

Robert DeNiro is hilarious in "Midnight Run," btw, and funny in "Brazil," too.

If De Niro's going to be funny he has to play off someone like Grodin again.

Pacino more extreme highs and lows in the 90s - though the lows for a lot of people were big business, Oscar recognition etc.

I wonder if Scorcese sits through all the dad movies out of loyalty to the guy.

The DVD box for the early '70s gangster comedy has DeNiro (who allegedly plays an Italian soccer player posing as a priest or something) right smack in the front, but the trailer has like two quick shots of him, far less screen time than they give Herve Villechaise or the sound of a slide whistle.
