― Graham (graham), Thursday, 19 September 2002 11:07 (twenty-three years ago)
Later is fine, as long as I can get a train out of Paddington before the Wiltshire Curfew.
And I'll be on Regent St so anywhere West End would be great. If it were less than 10 minutes walk from the Bakerloo line it would maximise my drinking time. But I'm a fast walker.

Well, whoever chooses make it nearish Bakerloo Line (Oxford Circus/Picc Circus) and I'll be there.
What happens next? Do the minutes of the meeting get minuted? Does someone review the minutes of the lsat meeting? Can I doodle while pretending to look intelligently interested?

― bear say hi to me (ENBB), Tuesday, 1 December 2009 12:22 (fifteen years ago)
london ilx used to do this before the entire freaky trigger brigade got butthurt by the rapidly increasing pace + americanisation of ilx and quit posting in a huff

― E Poxy Thee Thule (Tom D.), Tuesday, 1 December 2009 12:36 (fifteen years ago)
yeah but they've all left ilx - they're kinda no longer clan - if they wanted to advertise it here they would do
and enbb it'll need a stronger tease than that to elicit anything other than a dead bat. not that i'm suggesting anything :p
― a. cole, u thic (acoleuthic), Tuesday, 1 December 2009 12:36 (fifteen years ago)
OK, this is weird. Why? Because the that is the day after my birthday which would be fun to FAP on but also because I worked directly across the street from The Morpeth Arms for two years and that was our after work pub! Would be incredibly strange but awesome to go there again.
― bear say hi to me (ENBB), Tuesday, 1 December 2009 12:38 (fifteen years ago)

There may be a sports emphasis to our meeting; we will be looking for a location that is showing football (or even cricket, but probably football). But it won't be exclusively sports-obsessed! Oh no. Especially not a bit later into the evening.

― I sb'ed your mum (ken c), Monday, 28 December 2009 00:25 (fifteen years ago)
I feel chastened. The plan was to meet at Trafalgar Square and then find a pub, but since I'm being pressed...gosh I really can't think of one that has Sky! Any tips? I'm probably setting out about midday; the prospect of watching Spurs - WHUFC is quite enticing.
ENBB, if you make it into town on Tuesday I'd definitely be up for a reprise! As I suspect would a few others. I'd make sure a pub was set this time.
To repeat: this wasn't so much a FAP as me meeting Nick and wondering if anyone else fancied coming but it's true that I have been lax in the pub-revealing department.
I just look at our USA counterparts fapping like crazy and grow sad that we, inventors of the art, have lost it so comprehensively :(

I left the East Dulwich Tavern at half time of Utd-Arsenal last week because I couldn't hack all the melodramatic Gooners and cockney Reds massively overemphasising their masculine commitment to football, it was like watching people auditioning for a scene in a slightly point-missing film or some shit

Yup, that's the East Dulwich Tavern for you. Always a bit baffled by it: if you're so committed to the team, umm, why aren't you actually at the match? Wearing a replica shirt to watch a game in a pub is also unacceptable.

I'm there 12-19th. So far on the calendar is Faust on the 16th and playing on a boat on the 17th.

If we're leaning to the west side of central London I suggest The Ship in Fitzrovia.
― Matt DC, Thursday, 29 April 2010 14:51 (fifteen years ago)
Amazed I've never seen you at boat-ting, xyzzzz__ - we must just be overlapping/missing each other (I'm a fairly irregular attendee, but have been irregularly attending for a while).
I think the Klinker is only taking a year's sabbatical, you'll be pleased/horrified to know.
― Remember me, but o! forget my feet (GamalielRatsey), Thursday, 29 April 2010 15:23 (fifteen years ago)
lol, that was regular meet-up pub of non-ILX internet pals of mine for years, fapped there a few times when I was over. (nb the beers are not especially ace Sash, but everyone just drinks on the street in order to smoke so you'll be good.)

Yeah that's strange, must try and synchronize. Though I should say its been once a month so far this this year (once in Feb, Mar and Apr). Before that I used to go to the Klinker, mostly.
Its good news about the Klinker but I'm not too confident that it will return...

I have no idea? I'm right next to the Gloucester Road tube. Whatever's a good trade between being easy to get to and awesome.

― Oracle Crackers (Tom D.), Monday, 12 July 2010 12:42 (fifteen years ago)
The '4 at the second' was the ILB fap wasn't it? It doesn't have many Londoners on it (although it wasn't restricted to ILB-ers).
― xyzzzz__, Monday, 12 July 2010 12:46 (fifteen years ago)

Spam? Maybe. ILX-related? Definitely. Just a wee shout about the gig my band and (by some coincidence) emil.y's band are playing at the Windmill in Brixton on Halloween Friday at the Windmill. It's about a fiver to get in I think, and we (Disco Zhivago) are on first because we've never played London before and no one's heard of us, while Slum of Legs are a bit higher up the bill. Would be fab to see a few Ilxors about if you're not doing other things. Other bands include Cosines and The Drink.

Good job xyzzz on suggesting "The" Blue Posts, famous for being a pub name that occurs several times within a too-close area, introducing old-days style FD. Which Blue Posts did you have in mind? (I basically never drink in the West End any more, FWIW, so I've pretty much lost touch with where might be OK.)
― Tim, Wednesday, 19 December 2018 10:00 (six years ago)

― Bimlo Horsewagon became Wheelbarrow Horseflesh (aldo), Wednesday, 19 December 2018 10:52 (six years ago)
After an intensive nostalgia fest of reading 2002 - 2005 threads earlier this year, it was a weird feeling whenever I happened to visit any of the London pubs featured (eg Pineapple in Camden, the Clerk and Well, and various pubs in Fitzrovia) - and imagining the long-gone ghosts of previous FAPS.
― Luna Schlosser, Wednesday, 19 December 2018 11:32 (six years ago)
Pineapple is in Kentish Town btw.
― It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christ (Tom D.), Wednesday, 19 December 2018 11:54 (six years ago)

― It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christ (Tom D.), Wednesday, 19 December 2018 13:40 (six years ago)
If there’s a Blue Pollsts then I’d probably Newman Street, it’s a little quieter up there.
― Andrew Farrell, Wednesday, 19 December 2018 13:57 (six years ago)
I once went round every Blue Posts to see if anyone knew why they were called the Blue Posts and no one did outside of the usual spurious sounding and heavily caveated theories. Pretty sure The Harp is surely just near St Martins-in-the-Fields is my favourite west end pub these days and if you can guarantee the upstairs room would be *perfect* for a FAP. downstairs is tight tho.
― Fizzles, Wednesday, 19 December 2018 14:16 (six years ago)
Fitzrovia side is a good call tho my aversion to Sam Smith’s pubs means it takes a few out at a swipe - the aforementioned Newman St Blue Posts, The Champion and The Fitzrovia itself. Tho as several ilxors will attest this discrimination around pubs is for show only. i will drink anywhere.
― Fizzles, Wednesday, 19 December 2018 14:19 (six years ago)
xp I'd agree on both halves of that.
The Blue Posts myth is that they're basically taxi ranks for sedan chairs?
― Andrew Farrell, Wednesday, 19 December 2018 14:19 (six years ago)
Because I'm not bright I have only just realised that sedan-carriers are what's being referred to in The Crown and Two Chairmen
― Andrew Farrell, Wednesday, 19 December 2018 14:20 (six years ago)
yep, sedan chairs, postal collection points (indicated by blue posts), perimeter boundary of some sort. think there were a couple others. my general rule on pub names unless they’re bleeding obvious is to assume we don’t know and inventive explanations are invariably rong.
― Fizzles, Wednesday, 19 December 2018 14:35 (six years ago)

ENBB where roughly in town are you staying? Everywhere will be quietish in early January.
Newman Street is the best of the Blue Posts (I believe there are four) but others in our party may have strong opinions about Sam Smiths. It would be pleasingly old-school though.

Kidding. Though it did occur to me that I don’t know CP’s real name so he’s going to have to say either I’m the colonel or I’m colonel poo both of which are a+.

― Benson and the Jets (ENBB), Tuesday, 2 April 2019 13:22 (six years ago)
I'm usually in London on Thursdays (not this week because I'm seeing the Cosmic Psychos on Friday), and my train goes from London Bridge, which appears to be in SE1!
― Colonel Poo, Tuesday, 2 April 2019 13:24 (six years ago)
Well well well just look at this all potentially working out nicely for people and stuff. :) Next Thursday or the week after? The week after would be right before a holiday but that might mean people are away.
― Benson and the Jets (ENBB), Tuesday, 2 April 2019 13:27 (six years ago)
I can't do next week but currently can the week after, not that these facts should make much difference.
― Tim, Tuesday, 2 April 2019 13:30 (six years ago)
I can do both - I am away over Easter, so I probably wouldn't be out for long on the 18th, but I could definitely come out.

― Grandpont Genie, Tuesday, 16 April 2019 04:58 (six years ago)
The only other pub I like around Borough is ILB fap fave Royal Oak but yes that will be rammed too.
― xyzzzz__, Tuesday, 16 April 2019 07:30 (six years ago)
Are there any that maybe you like a little less but will also be less likely to be rammed? If not let's just pick one of those and hope for the best.
― Benson and the Jets (ENBB), Tuesday, 16 April 2019 09:23 (six years ago)
Kings Arms is pleasant but tiny Royal Oak not much larger – we are best used to it, despite change of management. The George is v characterful but has not much bar for the number of customers it seats (bcz it has such an extensive outside area). Lord Clyde: fond memories but haven't been there for years Globe Tavern (in the market): enraging overcrowded visit last time I was there (to meet up w/Geeta) but it was amateur month so Blue Eyed Maid: horrible sports and karaoke barn
There's another one near the Lord Clyde I think, with various dusty stuffed animals above the bar?
― mark s, Tuesday, 16 April 2019 09:34 (six years ago)
Also in the area: The Southwark Tavern, The Mudlark (under London Bridge), the Anchor (by the river near the Clink)
― Andrew Farrell, Tuesday, 16 April 2019 09:39 (six years ago)
I had forgotten Amateur Month: http://freakytrigger.co.uk/pumpkin/2005/12/warning-pub-amateur-month-has-begun/
Though if I ever knew what a flyer was, I have forgotten that too.
― Andrew Farrell, Tuesday, 16 April 2019 09:42 (six years ago)
I was in the Bunch of Grapes the other day and there were seats, but it was later on like 8:30-9ish and on a Tuesday
I've been to the George a couple of times and yeah it was busy
― Colonel Poo, Tuesday, 16 April 2019 09:48 (six years ago)
a flyer is a swift solo pint i think? i may be wrong but the clue is in the context really
― mark s, Tuesday, 16 April 2019 09:55 (six years ago)
Might be able to come out for once. Make up for missing too many ilb faps.
Lord Clyde is an old favourite, but like mark s haven't been in a few years. I cannot remember going to the The Glad(stone) even though it had a good rep. Is that the stuffed animals one? The Roebuck, down Great Dover St, used to be alright. All the in-market pubs tend to the enragingly overcrowded imo, but The Market Porter is surprisingly spacious and I quite like it as big, busy pubs go Bunch of Grapes might be the pub I've most frequently passed without ever buying a drink in. It's become a sort of principle, not drinking there. King's Arms off the High Street used to be reliably quiet, not so sure now - http://freakytrigger.co.uk/pumpkin/2009/11/the-ft-top-25-pubs-of-the-00s-25-the-kings-arms-borough/Weird fondness for The Old King's Head but only remember being there when drinking to get properly drunk.(quick shout for The Rose on Snowsfields, which used to be my local and favourite pub in the world, but is now just a nice, awkwardly shaped gastropub)
― woof, Tuesday, 16 April 2019 10:10 (six years ago)
I can't make it on Thursday but Borough in general is not a great place to do this at the start of a Bank Holiday weekend and the closer to the market you are the worse it will be.
― Matt DC, Tuesday, 16 April 2019 10:12 (six years ago)
It was someone's request that we do it around there, right? I've never been to any of these so am leaving it up to you all to decide.
― Benson and the Jets (ENBB), Tuesday, 16 April 2019 10:15 (six years ago)
I'm happy so many people seem to be able to come!
MattDC - next time!
Yeah the SE1 thing was probably my fault and if anyone has brilliant ideas for better spots that won't be full and are convenient for people to drop in they should suggest them.
(The Lord Clyde is as good as ever but probably a bit small for these purposes; they do allow you to reserve tables in the back room I think but I am against such behaviours.)
(Yes a flyer is when you're on a round but the people you're drinking with are drinking at a sensible speed and you're in need of another when they're nowhere near so you get yourself a quick off-round drink while still remaining in the round.)
― Tim, Tuesday, 16 April 2019 11:12 (six years ago)
I've heard SE7 is nice
― imago, Tuesday, 16 April 2019 11:14 (six years ago)
In all seriousness though, Bermondsey is 1 stop from London Bridge and possesses numerous fine pubs and a clutch of nearby craft brewers to match
― imago, Tuesday, 16 April 2019 11:15 (six years ago)
bermondsey is a minor mare for me (req. bus and overground then underground plus walk if there's a walk) -- BUT happy to go with a majority tbh, esp if the mare also means we can all sit down and stretch out
― mark s, Tuesday, 16 April 2019 11:21 (six years ago)
There is a fine clutch of craft brewers - we should not go there.
― Andrew Farrell, Tuesday, 16 April 2019 11:51 (six years ago)
Yeah lol please.
Getting a lot of positives on Lord Clyde. Is it smaller than royal Oak?
― xyzzzz__, Tuesday, 16 April 2019 11:54 (six years ago)
slightly bigger if memory serves (caveat: years since i was there)
― mark s, Tuesday, 16 April 2019 12:01 (six years ago)
I thought I’d been there v recently so I searched my email and the occasion I was thinking of was pals visiting from DC in...April 2006(!). But surely there was one other visit in the last 13 years. I don’t get out much.
― Michael Jones, Tuesday, 16 April 2019 12:13 (six years ago)
Clyde marginally smaller than the Royal Oak I'd guess, but there's surely not much in it either way.
― Tim, Tuesday, 16 April 2019 12:58 (six years ago)
The Lord Clyde is often heaving in the early evenings but tends to empty out, my memory is it's marginally better for a largeish group than the Royal Oak or the King's Arms, both of which are fine pubs but awkward for groups bigger than four or five.
The Horseshoe Inn on the other side of the tracks towards Bermondsey St has a pretty big, open back room and lots of space for outdoor drinking, which is where most people will be if it's a nice day, which it looks like being.
― Matt DC, Tuesday, 16 April 2019 13:10 (six years ago)
Aye, work go out to there a far bit - and also to the Miller further along that street, which again might be alright if there's a lot of people outside.

Happy with either the Lord Clyde or Horseshoe. I’m not convinced it’ll be all that busy. It’s been fairly quiet cos school holidays and people want to get away for the weekend. Cue pic of Fizzles’ comically squeezed face in heaving crowd at the bar.
― Fizzles, Tuesday, 16 April 2019 13:40 (six years ago)

What a lovely evening. In true bank holiday reprobate form I missed my train and am now having a curer in a pub in E3 that has a penguin pb on every table, hungoverly attempting to read Sarraute

xp the books are not really for reading I don’t think, but they are a nice touch in an otherwise fairly standard Young’s pub (The Sarraute is mine and is also not really for reading, I have decided in my wetbrained state)

your attempts to explain Sarraute to me, a layperson, at 9am after a night of drinking, were quite heroic I thought

re tv actress catherine fuller visiting the east end
there ARE some slopes down towards the lea e.g. from upper clapton road, plus chatsworth road and homerton high street both have quite a gradient at some points (tho not built-up points and the architecture looks wrong plus that narrow pavement still looks very unlondony to me)
also did she really "make friends" wIth a toddler -- I THINK NOT
lol when i GS-ed streets with slopes in london's east end i found THIS:
https://www.eastlondonhistory.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/old-streets-of-london.jpg
from this site -- which has similar cellar-window arches but is not identified by name on the "east london history" website -- plus a subsequent tineye reverse search locates this street in BOSTON MASSACHUSETTS ffs.

― deemsthelarker (darraghmac), Friday, 3 May 2019 15:32 (six years ago)
The one with DJ Martian was in the BPNS so you'd need to have been north of Preston (possibly Carlisle) for Mono to be easier to get to.
― Tim, Friday, 3 May 2019 15:44 (six years ago)
If we're not allowed to FD about the location of future FAPS any more I insist on being allowed to FD about the location of past FAPs.
― Tim, Friday, 3 May 2019 15:45 (six years ago)
There was one so far north I’ve forgotten the name of the park which I remember taking an absolute age to get home from, but I think the literal concrete journey time is a red herring here what matters is we should go to mono
― stet, Friday, 3 May 2019 16:37 (six years ago)

So great to see everyone again! Fueled in my case by Sam Smiths Extra Stout -- which is excellent, and any antipodean opinions on the topic are henceforth declared redundant -- a lot of ground was covered, including self-publishing, printing sets, neighbours, freelancing, typesetting, typefaces, journals, journalism, prog rock, Factory Records, podcasts, weddings, Bill Heine his shark and his cinemas, gullible housemates, Boston, Washington, Hackney, the military, the Tower of London, fishmongers, absent friends, internet factions, past FAPs, ILX history, football clubs and their ownership, cider (with or without sherry)...and...pause for breath, they were just the things I remember / heard.
Is there a name for the table on a table thing in the Blue Posts? You know, the little round table that's on a round table? Tiered table, if you will.

smol (avg height, chubby tbh) bird (more hamster with a glare tbh) with a brogue (only when excited but even then its prob more of a squall) was on to enbb since to suggest that soho-ish might work as we're lunchin around there and moochin afterwards and we might as well be earlyish starting given a long day might mean bed calls us sooner than eg fizzles might have made you to expect
― phil neville jacket (darraghmac), Tuesday, 9 July 2019 22:22 (six years ago)
How much time do you want to spend mooching around Soho? If you're lunching late (or shopping) it should be fine but otherwise that's a lot of time in a relatively small area.
London will have emptied out a bit by then but even then Soho on a Friday can be on the hectic side. There's always hardy ILX perennials the Glasshouse Stores or the Blue Posts Newman Street but only if neither of you particularly mind about drinking decent beer and certainly not if you're drinking wine.
More generally anywhere reasonably central on the Jubilee Line should be pretty easy for you.
― Matt DC, Wednesday, 10 July 2019 08:04 (six years ago)

― Fizzles, Saturday, 13 July 2019 12:30 (six years ago)
The Lamb has an upstairs now which (as long as it isn't booked out) makes it a lot more FAP friendly.
― Matt DC, Saturday, 13 July 2019 12:30 (six years ago)
friday evening tho, what are the odds. and you’re right it’s pretty cramped for that sort of thing otherwise (tho i like it)
― Fizzles, Saturday, 13 July 2019 12:32 (six years ago)
Excellent. Flying out the day after for a long weekend in Berlin so this is perfect timing.

im not sure im a big fan of the idea of asking ppl to choose between a fellas goin away party and having a pint with a known rogue tbh.
we'll be back in london regular enough like
― phil neville jacket (darraghmac), Saturday, 20 July 2019 08:50 (six years ago)

― Arthur Lowe & Love (Tom D.), Saturday, 20 July 2019 09:11 (six years ago)
It's not a going-away party, it'll be fine.
― Matt DC, Saturday, 20 July 2019 09:38 (six years ago)
Ok someone has to know this area better than I do. Suggestions?
― Benson and the Jets (ENBB), Monday, 29 July 2019 10:05 (six years ago)

Opening gambit - The College Arms on Store Street, just off Tottenham Court Road. This has serviced a reasonable-sized gathering pretty well in the past although I can't remember if booking ahead was required.
― Matt DC, Monday, 29 July 2019 12:52 (six years ago)
Plax!! :)
― Benson and the Jets (ENBB), Monday, 29 July 2019 13:24 (six years ago)
How about Fitzroy Tavern, other side of TCR?
― the pinefox, Monday, 29 July 2019 13:40 (six years ago)
In my experience the Fitzroy is always unpleasantly busy on a Friday.
― Matt DC, Monday, 29 July 2019 13:58 (six years ago)
College Arms is fine imo. Wouldn't go near Charlotte Street - wot Matt DC said.
― Fizzles, Monday, 29 July 2019 18:47 (six years ago)
bring back that glasshouse stores beat imo. they've even got the bar billiards working again
― imago, Monday, 29 July 2019 18:49 (six years ago)

― Benson and the Jets (ENBB), Tuesday, 30 July 2019 09:44 (six years ago)

― imago, Tuesday, 30 July 2019 09:58 (six years ago)

― Arthur Lowe & Love (Tom D.), Tuesday, 30 July 2019 09:59 (six years ago)
We’ll allow that.
― Benson and the Jets (ENBB), Tuesday, 30 July 2019 10:08 (six years ago)

― phil neville jacket (darraghmac), Tuesday, 30 July 2019 10:39 (six years ago)
i will probably pop to pete's early doors (430ish?) as i am in town and footloose on friday then over to college arms (which is where i had my pub-meet after day one of the conference i ran at birkback so that will be nice) 6ish? and then when deems and y'alls are tired of my bullshit i will creep back to pete's do :)
― mark s, Tuesday, 30 July 2019 10:42 (six years ago)
we're skewing early. deems or whoever, if you want some company in the 4.30-7.30 slot we'll be around
― imago, Tuesday, 30 July 2019 11:18 (six years ago)
See you all then
― xyzzzz__, Tuesday, 30 July 2019 13:14 (six years ago)
FYI there’s a table for 10 reserved under my name. If you think you’ll get there early and don’t know my name shoot me an email at enbb28 at the g mail and I will inform you. I will be there between 5:30 and 6 but hopefully closer to 5:30.
― Benson and the Jets (ENBB), Wednesday, 31 July 2019 11:34 (six years ago)
I didn’t know how big a table to request but figured that if there are by more than that at one point some can stand etc
― Benson and the Jets (ENBB), Wednesday, 31 July 2019 11:36 (six years ago)
we'll hardly get ten tbh
― phil neville jacket (darraghmac), Wednesday, 31 July 2019 11:47 (six years ago)

but agreed a darraghfap is unlikely to deliver it.

― Benson and the Jets (ENBB), Thursday, 1 August 2019 13:26 (six years ago)
Not seen RS post in a while iirc? Hope he's alright! (him being alright might be why he doesn't post as often?) Not at the FAP but HB to him regardless.

― Matt DC, Friday, 2 August 2019 10:21 (six years ago)
I mean in the pub, not under the table per se.
Pinefox - yes! :)
― Benson and the Jets (ENBB), Friday, 2 August 2019 10:44 (six years ago)
I should be at the pub c. 6pm gazpacho/pesto production willing (am currently having coffee in the tiny café so am about five minutes from getting my skates on).

Well, let's see if you can follow me around the room. The drunk Russians on the embankment at seven and eight o'clock. The couple waltzing around me at the embassy at nine and eleven. The waiter standing behind ENBB at the top of the stairs. Bow tie, twelve o'clock. The other ILX team. You're worried about me, why?

Good to hear it went well. I am 15 years out of sync and currently enjoying a quick drink at the former mid 2000s FAP venue the Pineapple in Kentish Town. (Looked out for the ghosts of Dr C and A N Other as I went past the Bull and Gate earlier)
― Luna Schlosser, Sunday, 4 August 2019 19:20 (six years ago)
I went to Berlin the next day so just reviving now to say Herne Hill FAP would be a good idea (to this resident of the area).
I'll revive this late August and see if people are up for that.
― xyzzzz__, Thursday, 8 August 2019 10:09 (six years ago)

PRHH has an excellent West Indian take away right by the station, so post-drink fuel needs are v well catered for.
― coup de twat (suzy), Monday, 23 September 2019 09:19 (six years ago)
Half-moon or Commercial for options. There are a couple more but those are best.
ENBB - HH station is 10 mins by train from Victoria or 15 min walk from Brixton tube. The pubs are by HH station.
― xyzzzz__, Monday, 23 September 2019 10:51 (six years ago)
Man alive, I loved the Commercial in the mid/late 80s, so much so I have trouble drinking in there these days (not so much trouble that I refuse to drink in there, just enough that I go on endlessly about how much I liked it in the old days.
― Tim, Monday, 23 September 2019 11:03 (six years ago)
When do you all want to do this. I can do mid-next week. More flexible after that
― xyzzzz__, Wednesday, 25 September 2019 09:07 (six years ago)
I will do this if possible. ENBB, are you going to bring PWB?
― the pinefox, Wednesday, 25 September 2019 10:30 (six years ago)
I could make a crafty mid-next-week, after which I'm out of action until late October (don't let that stop you).
― Tim, Wednesday, 25 September 2019 10:33 (six years ago)
Next week weds or Thurs sounds good
― xyzzzz__, Wednesday, 25 September 2019 10:57 (six years ago)

― the pinefox, Wednesday, 25 September 2019 11:00 (six years ago)

― Fizzles, Wednesday, 25 September 2019 19:54 (six years ago)
Next Thursday would work. Since it sounds like some can’t make it we could do another towards the end of the month/start of Nov?
― Benson and the Jets (ENBB), Thursday, 26 September 2019 09:34 (six years ago)
Sounds good.
― xyzzzz__, Thursday, 26 September 2019 09:46 (six years ago)

So are we doing this thing then?
― Benson and the Jets (ENBB), Wednesday, 2 October 2019 09:02 (six years ago)
I am planning to be there (though the chances are I won't make it until about 7.30).

― Benson and the Jets (ENBB), Wednesday, 2 October 2019 14:55 (six years ago)
No worries if this experiment in non-central drinking yields low numbers or you all want to do something at the end of the month I'll be at the commercial reading over a drink anyway.
― xyzzzz__, Thursday, 3 October 2019 08:24 (six years ago)
I hope to attend.
― the pinefox, Thursday, 3 October 2019 08:29 (six years ago)

― Benson and the Jets (ENBB), Thursday, 3 October 2019 08:43 (six years ago)

― Benson and the Jets (ENBB), Thursday, 3 October 2019 09:51 (six years ago)

That almost went horribly wrong. All the trains from Herne Hill were cancelled but I managed to get a bus and 2 tubes to London Bridge and my train arrives in 7 minutes. then in theory I get a bus from Tunbridge Wells and I get home about 2:30 if I'm lucky...

Once again I completely avoided talking to Fizzles. I swear I'm not doing this deliberately
― Colonel Poo, Thursday, 3 October 2019 22:49 (six years ago)
Blimey, for once things are working out, if my train existed I would be arriving at Hastings now but the bus actually turned up this time and just stopped at Battle so I might even get home before 2!

― xyzzzz__, Friday, 4 October 2019 05:36 (six years ago)
I had a fine time, thanks all. Fizzles, this was the book I was recommending: https://www.influxpress.com/attrib-and-other-stories
― Tim, Friday, 4 October 2019 06:10 (six years ago)
Thanks Tim. And it's always a real pleasure - doubly so to see ilx faces in your familiar local. Colonel Poo's frosty high-hatting of me notwithstanding.
― Fizzles, Friday, 4 October 2019 12:40 (six years ago)
having popped back in the commercial while waiting for a chinese takeaway i realise pinefox’s pleasantry about Belly was in fact anchored in the actual music they were playing.

That book sounds quite worth looking at!
Fizzles, if I mentioned Belly it was because they were playing 'Feed The Tree'.
― the pinefox, Monday, 7 October 2019 10:04 (six years ago)
Ah, yes, that's what they were playing the other night as well.
Eley Williams has enormous fun with the sound and look of language, and the heft of words and their relation to perception and memory. Normally I'm a little wary of the poeticisation of prose, but I don't think that's what's happening here. It reminds me more of Robert Louis Stevenson's approach to sentence construction, where he recommends an awareness of the patterns of sound across sentences. Love and loss are specifically realised through this prism of language and thought, which makes their representation more elliptical than more conventional representations of those emotions, but more pointed, more tender, with a bursting sense of things felt but not directly expressed so that, to quote Isaac Rosenberg, they are 'understandable but still ungraspable'.

A brutal comedown.

When’s the next one? I’d like to go to one eventually...
― gyac, Tuesday, 8 October 2019 14:29 (six years ago)
Hasn't been anmounced, and I am guessing it will be central. Usually a 2/3 month gap between 'em.
― xyzzzz__, Tuesday, 8 October 2019 14:43 (six years ago)
Central is good, obviously both of us can’t go due to kittens/being the same person
― gyac, Tuesday, 8 October 2019 14:54 (six years ago)
bring kittens

Revive! Going to be in London from Nov. 7 through the 12th.
― Elvis Telecom, Monday, 4 November 2019 22:23 (five years ago)
Good forward thinking - with a year's notice, there's next to no chance that we'll not get something sorted.
― Andrew Farrell, Tuesday, 5 November 2019 07:14 (five years ago)
Hooray for ILX apathy!

geeta has opted for the racketeer nr kings X, from 6
― mark s, Tuesday, 12 November 2019 20:38 (five years ago)
Racketeer is a good choice. I have never been to a FAP but aspire to do so within my earthly existence.
― britain's secret sauce (seandalai), Wednesday, 13 November 2019 05:46 (five years ago)
See you then!!
(Elvis - sorry I couldn't get to arrange anything, weekend filled up with duty all of a sudden)
― xyzzzz__, Wednesday, 13 November 2019 07:30 (five years ago)
I'm going to try to make it to the Racketeer in between engagements this evening, I'm not sure whether it will be possible.
Anyone fancying a hang-out on Sunday afternoon might note that we're convening a rare Hangover Lounge on Sunday at the Pembury Tavern in Hackney, all welcome, no action expected apart from some ale soaked relaxing.
― Tim, Friday, 15 November 2019 10:17 (five years ago)
bit of a step for me
― mark s, Friday, 15 November 2019 11:39 (five years ago)
Yes, I'm going to a birthday thing for someone in the work tonight - also in Kings Cross, coincidentally - so unlikely to show.
― 'Skills' Wallace (Tom D.), Friday, 15 November 2019 12:09 (five years ago)
Another US ilxor is in London tonight, playing a virtually sold-out Shepherd's Bush Empire lol

― koogs, Friday, 20 December 2019 13:27 (five years ago)
if it's just me and thee, comrade, then i'd suggest Herne Hill, as it's likely to be a bit quieter. i've got a final meeting now, which I'm going to do down the pub, and then i'll be winging my way central/Herne Hill-wards, for about four.

We're doing a little launch for the Mary Butts book I've done (and which some of you have seen) - it's a week today, Thursday 27th at the bookartsbookshop from 6.30 to 8 or so, likely pub after. It'd be lovely to see all or any of you.
https://www.instagram.com/p/B8szLA8nXGV/
Details of the project: https://thehalfpintpress.wordpress.com/imaginary-letters-by-mary-butts/ - this will be on show in the windows of the bookshop for most of March if you're passing and want a look.
― Tim, Thursday, 20 February 2020 09:35 (five years ago)
Bah, I think I'm booked on the day, but I pass by it all the time next to the Kieran Doherty mural on my way home, so I'll be sure to come by.
