I remember seeing this as a little kid - at the time I knew who Charlotte Rae was but didn't know who Tim Curry was. Is that one of the AbFab girls?

James Blount (James Blount), Wednesday, 25 September 2002 04:42 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh i think his finest moment was on Muppet Treasure Island. He got to interact with Miss Piggy. How cool is that!

That third shot down appears to be the inspiration for that one bit from Matrix: Reloaded

TOMBOT, Friday, 12 December 2003 00:58 (twenty-two years ago)

The thought of a thousand Tim Currys shouting "Fuck you!" fills me with GLEE~

nate detritus (natedetritus), Friday, 12 December 2003 01:52 (twenty-two years ago)

(er, I meant "bullshit!" Man, that film should've been more memorable, huh?)

nate detritus (natedetritus), Friday, 12 December 2003 01:53 (twenty-two years ago)

How incredible would it be if Agent Smith was played by Tim Curry?

Allyzay, Friday, 12 December 2003 02:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Allyzay, Friday, 12 December 2003 02:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Has anyone gotten around to hearing the sound clips?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 12 December 2003 02:42 (twenty-two years ago)

I just read the entire review and I have TEARS RUNNING DOWN MY FACE and my stomach muscles HURT from laughing.

Allyzay, Friday, 12 December 2003 03:07 (twenty-two years ago)

HOLY SHIT Amazon allows you to purchase this movie WITH Mother Goose Rock And Rhyme for extra savings!!! This is the greatest news in the history of the world quite honestly.

Allyzay, Friday, 12 December 2003 03:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Dear god! Dare I actually watch it. (I reread the review today and was just amazed...what in the name of god is the full music video sequence like, I wonder.)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 12 December 2003 03:40 (twenty-two years ago)

It is like every beautiful dream I ever had. I enjoy the concept that all these little girls find Tim Curry to be fucking hot btw.

Allyzay, Friday, 12 December 2003 14:42 (twenty-two years ago)

i heard he's started doing the audio versions of the "Lemony Snicket" novels

God knows how, it must have come up on a random search or a link through a bad movie site, as bad movies are one of my pleasures in life.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 13 December 2003 07:42 (twenty-two years ago)

seven months pass...
It's coming out on dvd!

Note creepy Harry Knowles review on AICN:

Ok – this isn’t that tv series crap, this is the movie. The one with the yummy lil Fairuza Balk! Oh and even more important one of the greatest women of all time, Diana Rigg. Oh… and the Court Jester of Satan, himself… Tim Curry!!! A grossly overlooked film that has big gobs of cool all through it. If you like the cast I’ve named, you’ll love this! If you don’t… find Quint and beat him within an inch of his life! He’s who turned me on to it. Well, him and a beautiful lady I used to know. So, just consider it as highly recommended!

Leon Czolgosz (Nicole), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 16:21 (twenty-one years ago)

i like tim as the sinister new wave dj/sleez sisters svengali in times square.

That is one weird cast.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 18:48 (twenty-one years ago)

TIM CURRY. JENNIFER GREY. ADAM ANT. DR. JOYCE BROTHERS.

Seriously, if I was a studio head that would be all you'd have to say to me, $300m right there.

Allyzay Science Explosion (allyzay), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 18:49 (twenty-one years ago)

"Paradise Garage" needs a revival. What a great single, what a crappy video.

Have them remake that Plunkett and Maclane film with Adam and Tim as the two lead characters. Gold, right there.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 18:53 (twenty-one years ago)

four weeks pass...
I HAVE SEEN IT, IT IS AMAZING. I MEAN IT IS TERRIBLE BUT OMG.

Here's the thing. As soon as he started singing the song, I knew what he was saying. I like, knew this song, pretty well, even. Like I've heard it a few times before and found it very memorable. But I have most definitely not seen this film, ever. I would definitely have remembered something that made as little sense as the musical sequence. I can only assume that either A) this was some kind of single B) someone has made a cover of Tim Curry's song about Halloween C) I am clairvoyant.

Also we put the song on MP3, by "we" I mean Tom.

Allyzay Science Explosion (allyzay), Wednesday, 1 September 2004 03:20 (twenty-one years ago)

So did you actually get the DVD? *shock and awe*

Allyzay Science Explosion (allyzay), Wednesday, 1 September 2004 13:51 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm resisting the cult. ;-) More seriously, that apparently IS my gmail equivalent, I have a 2GB inbox. I only found out about it last night!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 1 September 2004 13:52 (twenty-one years ago)

"From London to Idaho," indeed.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 1 September 2004 15:38 (twenty-one years ago)

That's what makes it Halloweeny.

Allyzay Science Explosion (allyzay), Wednesday, 1 September 2004 15:52 (twenty-one years ago)

k/l (Ken L), Wednesday, 22 June 2005 18:05 (twenty years ago)

my sister and i used to watch this movie

Everyone's got a material possession they're really proud of. For some, it's their new sportscar. Others, their prized hockey trophies. For the Grand Wizard, it's his cardboard sun. Curry obviously believe that this is shocking, since he hides the thing behind his back for a minute, taunting us as if we should be completely amazed that he's somehow found the elusive paper sun.

this part of the website made me roffle

Homosexual II (Homosexual II), Wednesday, 22 June 2005 18:12 (twenty years ago)

this must be the answer -- the other movie discussed was "KISS meets the phantom of the park"

Allyzay knows a little German (allyzay), Tuesday, 27 September 2005 23:31 (twenty years ago)

[spoken] It's great to be here, with you young witches, on this fabulous night! Remember Gills, show the world, let them know it's Halloween. Hit it!
[singing]
I wouldn't change places
With anyone tonight
We'll carve pumpkin faces
And watch the witches flight
Every human heart will shudder
Every soul will shake with fear
Tonight, the creepiest
Tonight, the scariest
Tonight, the most wonderful night
ahhhhhhhhf the year
Anything can happen on Halloween
Your dog could turn into a cat
There may be a toad in your bass guitar
Or your sister could turn into a bat
Christmas time brings the snow
Summer time brings the sun
But on Halloween your blood begins to run
Something's funky going down now
Anything can happen on Halloween
It's better than a video
Gremlins gonna mess up every cassette
From London to Idaho
April first can be fun
New Year's Eve is a bore
But on Halloween your flesh begins to crawl
Oh, I'm losing control
Anything can happen on Halloween
Your toenails grow long and your hair turns green
Your teacher could become a sardine
Your dentist could turn into a queen.
Has anybody seen my tambourine
I may start playing
Begin the begin
The craziest night you've ever seen
This hairy, scary, creepy, crawly,
Halloween.

Allyzay knows a little German (allyzay), Tuesday, 27 September 2005 23:32 (twenty years ago)

the zucchini song?!?

Eisbär (llamasfur), Tuesday, 27 September 2005 23:33 (twenty years ago)

THE ZUCCHINI SONG
Now down the road there lives a man I'd like you all to know,
He grew a big zucchini for the local flower show
And when the story got around they came from far and wide,
And when then saw what he had grown, everybody cried.....

Ooooh! What a beauty, I've never seen one as big as that before,
Oh Oh! What a beauty, it must be two foot long or even more.
And it's such a lovely color, so big, and round, and fat,
I've never seen a zucchini grow quite as big as that,
Oh Oh! What a beauty, I've never seen one as big as that before.

He was leaning on the garden gate the other day,
And beckoned to a lady who lives just across the way,
He took her down the garden path and showed it to her with pride,
And when she saw the size of it, the little lady sighed..

Third verse, worse than the first!
And then the flower show was held and everybody went,
To see this huge zucchini, lying there inside the tent.
Soon the judges came along to give the prizes out,
And they only took one look at it and they began to shout,
Now what did they shout???"

OOOOOH!

Allyzay knows a little German (allyzay), Wednesday, 28 September 2005 00:22 (twenty years ago)

That is the best. THE. BEST. You should really see it in the context of the whole film though, because truly that shit just comes outta left field.

Allyzay Rofflesbot (allyzay), Thursday, 25 May 2006 14:13 (nineteen years ago)

All the little girls and the witchy teachers salivating over the photo of Curry as the Grand Wizard! OMG! What a fucked up movie :)

it's all about the bat tie

mookieproof (mookieproof), Thursday, 25 May 2006 14:20 (nineteen years ago)

I really enjoy the idea that girls just go completely Justin Timberlake-style nuts over Tim Curry, if they're witches.

Allyzay Rofflesbot (allyzay), Thursday, 25 May 2006 14:38 (nineteen years ago)

That fits in with every Rocky Horror performance I've ever attended.

Dan (Don't You Judge Me) Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 25 May 2006 14:44 (nineteen years ago)

Well one time I got dragged to something called "Naked Boys Singing," which lived up to its title, if it's any consolation.

Allyzay Rofflesbot (allyzay), Thursday, 25 May 2006 14:45 (nineteen years ago)

Dan, you poor soul. (I only went to three total and in drag once.)

Ally -- uh. Well, truth in advertising, then.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 25 May 2006 14:45 (nineteen years ago)

Ned, I sobbed like David Hasslehoff when I realized what we were going to see. Painful. Truly painful.

So speaking of the Hoff, ts Tim Curry versus David's finest hour? I know everyone's seen that but it never stops being funny and it struck me they're very similar, except one is Halloween themed (? I think?) and the other isn't.

Allyzay Rofflesbot (allyzay), Thursday, 25 May 2006 14:54 (nineteen years ago)

Man, that IS a tough call. What should they duet on?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 25 May 2006 14:56 (nineteen years ago)

Islands in the Stream

Allyzay Rofflesbot (allyzay), Thursday, 25 May 2006 14:59 (nineteen years ago)

Only if bad video effects show them IN A STREAM

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 25 May 2006 15:00 (nineteen years ago)

With a herd of unicorns.

Allyzay Rofflesbot (allyzay), Thursday, 25 May 2006 15:01 (nineteen years ago)

You know, the opening lyrics to that song are insane:

Baby when i met you, there was peace on earth
I set out to get you with a fine tooth comb
I was soft inside, there was something going on

A FINE TOOTH COMB?

"You were like the lice in my hair, dearest."

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 25 May 2006 15:03 (nineteen years ago)

Huh. I never really paid much attention. Also the first line is poorly phrased, it implies the peace on earth existed prior to the hook up.

Allyzay Rofflesbot (allyzay), Thursday, 25 May 2006 15:08 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, I was baffled by that as well. But if they're happy.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 25 May 2006 15:13 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, whatever, good on 'em.

Allyzay Rofflesbot (allyzay), Thursday, 25 May 2006 15:13 (nineteen years ago)

Anyway, TIM CURRY. That opening little speech he gives, jeezum.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 25 May 2006 15:14 (nineteen years ago)

Wait... none of you have seen this film? I thought it was a staple 80s children's classic and everyone's all WTF about it all... Very strange. My little sister has seen it probably a squillion times. Harry Potter totally ripped off a whole load of this wholesale.

Easily the best bit (of a great interview all around)

Q. A few years after that, you did “Muppet Treasure Island.” Did you have conflict with any of the Muppets?

A. I didn’t. They’re my favorites, actually. One of the great things about working with them is that you come to see them as characters and not as puppets, which is down to the brilliance of the Muppeteers. I loved Miss Piggy. We got on great.

Q. She’s difficult to share the spotlight with.

A. She is. She’s a greedy girl. It was established in the script that we had, maybe sometime in the past, some kind of a fling together. And I improvised a line which never made it into the movie: “Once you’ve had pork, you never look back.” (Deep laugh.)
