B and I went to SF Pride and joined up with the (huge!) Manning contingent. I felt Prideful.

Caught some of Toronto Pride today, the highlight of which was watching a woman getting into a screaming match with some street corner preachers who had organized for the event before walking off only to back again and resume the argument just so her friends could record it.

Tomorrow marks one week of being totally into this new guy. Pride was tangental this year, but I was happy to have a backdrop against which to make out with this dude, and sit outside in front of the club with his legs resting atop mine. *sigh*

lex -- what about baked potatoes?
preheat oven to 400 degrees, prick the skins of the potatoes with a fork a couple of times, and bake them for 1 hour
you can sit them right on the oven rack, no need for trays
once the skin is crispy, take them out and eat.
then just buy whatever fillings you think would be yummy and delicious and put them all on the table and make a feast out of them
bacon, cheese, sour cream, chutney, chili, whatever tickles your fancy.
that way you only have to cook the actual potato.

this sounds like a very good idea!

a tiny part of me wants to make something really impressive and complex - 99% of me knows this will end in tears and disaster and i should really stick to something as simple as possible. i did suggest that a boiled egg and a lump of cheddar cheese is, in fact, a valid meal, but this was rejected.

on one of our first dates B and i had a picnic and he made some DUMPLINGS! from scratch, but a few of them weren't totally cooked through and were sort of soggy and droopy as a result. now, in a restaurant/fine dining context i'd have been put off but in a "oh, someone who really likes me a whole bunch made these for me" context i happily ate almost all of them. so even if whatever you make is not worthy of escoffier (or even sbarro), i guarantee yr guy will eat it and sincerely enjoy it bcz the important part will be that you did this nice cool thing for him

food-wise, i will vouch for getting salmon steaks, rub with olive oil and s+p (maybe some dill if yr feeling fancy), bake in oven (on foil) at 425 for about 12-15 minutes or so. maybe roast some asparagus along with it after you toss 'em in OO and s+p too

i was totally just gonna cheat but the trouble with going out with an amazing cook is that he can, like, tell :( i'm not even sure i could get away with supermarket-packaged meat or fish (and i can't cope with butchers or fishmongers: there's always a point at which they ask me a question and i just do not know what to say)

i guarantee yr guy will eat it and sincerely enjoy it bcz the important part will be that you did this nice cool thing for him

the thing is i know this rationally and he has obviously said he won't object if it's horrible, it's just my perfectionist streak kicking in again - like what even is the point if he won't properly enjoy it and it's not nice? that's why i don't cook for myself!

focus on food that is simple, and delicious. fruits, raw vegetables, things that will add flavor to something plain and easy to cook. like flatbread, like salmon, like baked potatoes, whatever.

so maybe you can't cook, but you have a mouth and you know what tastes good. start there, and work inside your wheelhouse. you'll find something.

or go with a mezze platter -- you might not find making hummus from scratch too stressful (or maybe you have a deep fear of food processors idk). but if you did that then you could just buy loads of delicious things to go with flatbread and hummus!

There was one expressionless hardhat character who kept watching the action, and *spoiler* never wound up participating, but going back to his wife, next door to the plot's chief slut! you guys, i cooked a three-course meal for the bf last night (oeufs en cocotte, gazpacho blanco, harissa chicken). IT ACTUALLY TURNED OUT REALLY WELL. i had like six total meltdowns but five of them took place before i actually got into the kitchen. i haven't been converted to cooking because i still hated the process and got really stressed out (apart from blanching almonds which was just boring) but i also feel really proud - currently my mental state is 50% PTSD, 50% smugness.
