Defenseman Dylan Chanter of the Dubuque Fighting Saints had to be taken off the ice on a stretcher midway through the second period of his team's game against the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders after being knocked unconscious during a fight.

Play was suspended with 11:58 left, and Cedar Rapids leading, 2-0. It has not been determined when, or if, the game will be concluded.

Chanter scrapped with Corey Petrash of the RoughRiders in the corner behind the Dubuque net. The 18-year-old from Armstrong, British Columbia, lost his balance and fell backward, hitting his helmetless head on the ice (dyed pink for a cancer promotion) and dislocating his left shoulder.

The crowd cheered until seeing Chanter begin to severely convulse. His full-body seizure lasted at least two minutes, as team trainers and the RoughRiders' team doctor rushed to him.

He remained on the ice until paramedics arrived on the scene roughly 15 minutes later.

Severe concussions sometimes trigger generalized convulsions ("full body seizures"). Doesn't usually imply a more serious permanent brain injury than otherwise -- usually no intracranial bleeding, etc. Most patients recover quickly and do not develop epilepsy, and don't need long-term treatment to prevent further seizures. Looks scary but probably no worse than him being knocked unconscious (which is still bad).

Lu will be 35 this year and has an f'd up contract. No way any GM could trade him for a top 6 power forward or whatever.

Markstrom, Lack and Eriksson are young, which is a big plus for the 'Nucks. And we add size, which I think we need to continue on Torts's more physical strategy. Good timing since Santo's gone.

I've been antagonistic towards him through the years due to some immature dislike of a sports team that happened to be rivals with the team I grew up with. Very dumb for a guy my age. There are many reasons, and they all make sense to the seven year old kid I was (and mostly i'm stubborn). My parent immigrated from Europe and never cared for hockey, so I was pretty much ground zero in that regard. It's just that there is a constant arrogance when it comes to the Habs fandom and francophone media that I'm certain most of you would despise. Also, I have been to MSG numerous time.

van horn, i suspect what you describe as "arrogance" is probably just the typical boosterism for any major sports team in its home town. (it can still be gross though.)

for me the salary cap is one of the things that saves Canadiens fandom from being awful.
