rosemary (rosemary), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 03:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Any suggestions for places?

rosemary (rosemary), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 03:10 (twenty-two years ago)

also, where is the FAP thread for NY? It turns out I won't be in NY much on this trip. I can do this fri, tho it is wedding early next morning, and friday 18th at the end of the trip (i leave next day, but it's an evening flight i think)

-- Alan (AlanTrewartha@yahoo.co.uk), September 30th, 2002.

Alan, what do you mean by this? signed,

confused New Yorker (felicity), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 03:36 (twenty-two years ago)

yay for the 18th october!!!

i'm staying on west 63rd st, but i can do pretty much anywhere. i'm trying to remember where i went last time i was over. then i was staying around bleeker, whats on the corner of bleeker, is that the astor. i went in there and some other bars around the bowery. i have, of course, no idea if these are the good places

lets talk options baybee!!

gareth (gareth), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 07:39 (twenty-two years ago)

i meant i am free in NY to do something on either friday 4th or 18th.

i'm off to a wedding on 5th, and it starts v early in morning (a tea ceremony thing), so limits chances of getting wasted on the 4th, whereas i leave on the evening of the 19th, so would relish the chance of drinking tons on the 18th.

Alan (Alan), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 07:55 (twenty-two years ago)

i am planning to spend the night of 18th in brooklyn, but can be mobile of course. might prefer starting on the early side.

ron (ron), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 13:45 (twenty-two years ago)

I theeeenk I can make this one, although I will not be able to stay too too late as I have a show the next day.

Dave M. (rotten03), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 15:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Nory and I will be coming from Soho. She's lazy and might prefer something downtown, but it's not as if she has any choice.

nabisco (nabisco), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 16:20 (twenty-two years ago)

And wow, Ronnylongjohns!

nabisco (nabisco), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 16:21 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm trying to think of a place with tables and lots of seats. What about Corner Bistro or the Kettle of Fish? Or do y'all want east side or further downtown?

Benjamin, Tuesday, 1 October 2002 16:56 (twenty-two years ago)

I want near the PATH.

rosemary (rosemary), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 17:01 (twenty-two years ago)

corner bistro is tight as far as seats go. art bar is right down the street and has much more room.

there's also ace, which is in the east village and, well, ace. i always have large gatherings there -- good pinball, huge space, excellent draft selection. also it is right around the corner from sing sing karaoke ...

maura (maura), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 17:36 (twenty-two years ago)

I second Art Bar -- lots of seating, fire in the fireplace if we're lucky.

felicity (felicity), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 17:51 (twenty-two years ago)

East Village/L.E.S. bars all get really crowded and loud on Friday nights.

Anyone ever been to the Ear, way down at the west end of Spring Street (by Don Hill's)? It's near the PATH, and if you go at the right time it's not too crowded.

Jody Beth Rosen, Tuesday, 1 October 2002 17:55 (twenty-two years ago)

I have walked past Ear on the way to Bell Cafe but never gone in.

felicity (felicity), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 17:59 (twenty-two years ago)

I 3rd Art Bar (though, as Nabisco is so kind to point out, I have no choice).

nory (nory), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 19:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Well I didn't mean "no choice," I just meant ... you know, finally something you can't skip out on just because it's in Brooklyn and you don't feel like getting on the train. I was thinking it'd be funny if this managed to drag you out to Queens, or something.

nabisco (nabisco), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 19:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Okay, just ignore me. Hug?

nabisco (nabisco), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 19:18 (twenty-two years ago)

)))nabisco(((

That means hug, right?

And I'm not denying that I'm super-lazy and ridiculously Manhattan-bound...

nory (nory), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 19:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Ear is awesomely dank yet cozy though there's no room on weekends

gareth you may be thinking of Bowery Bar aka B-Bar, or Astor Lounge?

"ace" sounds like the best bet so far - pinball!!

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 19:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Aw, to hell with you downtown weenies.

geeta (geeta), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 20:02 (twenty-two years ago)

I'll be there, btw.

geeta (geeta), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 20:07 (twenty-two years ago)

I was thinking it'd be funny if this managed to drag you out to Queens, or something.

Ooh! The Beer Garden! The Beer Garden!

Jody Beth Rosen, Tuesday, 1 October 2002 20:14 (twenty-two years ago)

sheesh, it's so difficult accommodating all thee princesses.

Art Bar OR Ace are fine with me. Just pick a place already.

felicity (felicity), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 20:40 (twenty-two years ago)

I vote Art Bar, for the fireplace and the non-EV location.

Benjamin, Tuesday, 1 October 2002 20:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Then it will be: ART BAR. That's final.

(I feel so manly having seized the reins like that.)

nabisco (nabisco), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 21:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Ok people looking forward to it--I will work on honing my non-ilm talk in the meantime. Preview: I don't think the white stripes are very good... Oh! is there a preferred time?

Mary (Mary), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 21:51 (twenty-two years ago)

:-(

jess (dubplatestyle), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 21:54 (twenty-two years ago)

the beer garden is approximately 6 blocks from my apartment.

but hooray for art bar!

maura (maura), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 22:22 (twenty-two years ago)

To be pedantic: the place on Spring Street really isn't commonly called just "Ear," which sounds to me like some sort of nightmarish and expensive 1999-era drum-and-bass lounge that would have been frequented by a bunch of boors borrowing against their new media stock options. It's much more coolly called "Ear Inn," so named because of the broken neon sign that once read "Bar Inn."

That said, I really like the place, but it's too crowded, and the table service is too slow, for me to want to fancy a p. there.

Benjamin, Wednesday, 2 October 2002 00:29 (twenty-two years ago)

yeaa, this is turning into the biggest pub crawl EVAH!

gareth (gareth), Wednesday, 2 October 2002 07:05 (twenty-two years ago)

no B-Bar. the foot is coming down, the foot is down, no B-Bar.

Dave M. (rotten03), Wednesday, 2 October 2002 07:20 (twenty-two years ago)

i am looking fwd to meeting you all - please take it easy on my fragile nerves! time frame?? address?

ron (ron), Wednesday, 2 October 2002 13:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Art Bar: 52 8th Avenue between Horatio and Jane

Time: I dunno? Art Bar opens at 4 . . . perhaps some of us can get there around 5-ish and save all the good seats around the fireplace.

Afterwards maybe you can come over and I can serve you some beef bouillon and chicken livers on a wooden "prick."

felicity (felicity), Wednesday, 2 October 2002 16:24 (twenty-two years ago)

i hate Art Bar

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 2 October 2002 17:02 (twenty-two years ago)

but if you're all there then i guess i can suck it up

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 2 October 2002 17:02 (twenty-two years ago)

:`(

jess (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 2 October 2002 17:04 (twenty-two years ago)

That's right, Tracer, don't start questioning my authority. You'll be there and you'll like it.

nabisco (nabisco), Wednesday, 2 October 2002 17:44 (twenty-two years ago)

is this like the biggest US meet up ever?

jel -- (jel), Wednesday, 2 October 2002 17:50 (twenty-two years ago)

I think they have some big shindigs at those american football games. Cooked meats and everything!

David R. (popshots75`), Wednesday, 2 October 2002 18:00 (twenty-two years ago)

is this like the biggest US meet up ever?

And if it is, why must it be so that I can't be there? *cries at fate*

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 2 October 2002 18:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Is it okay if I show?

Yancey (ystrickler), Wednesday, 2 October 2002 19:08 (twenty-two years ago)

show us what? (yes, of course)

felicity (felicity), Wednesday, 2 October 2002 19:26 (twenty-two years ago)

OK, Art Bar. what time, again?

M Matos (M Matos), Wednesday, 2 October 2002 23:10 (twenty-two years ago)

felicity you are so good at being bad

ron (ron), Wednesday, 2 October 2002 23:57 (twenty-two years ago)

I love you all and look forward to seeing you.

nabisco (nabisco), Thursday, 3 October 2002 00:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Matos! The time is from 5-ish on...

Mary (Mary), Thursday, 3 October 2002 01:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, but when do the cool people show up? ;-)

Jody Beth Rosen, Thursday, 3 October 2002 01:40 (twenty-two years ago)

fashionably late = 6
obnoxiously late = 8
pointlessly late = Saturday at 5

Dave M. (rotten03), Thursday, 3 October 2002 01:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, Jody Beth, I might be there around 6ish. Just look for my entourage. They're the ones w/ the goldfish boots.

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 3 October 2002 02:06 (twenty-two years ago)

cool people will be at the FAP, yes, but no cool people.

felicity (felicity), Thursday, 3 October 2002 02:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Medium cool?

Jody Beth Rosen, Thursday, 3 October 2002 02:16 (twenty-two years ago)

yay felicity my sentiments exactly!

ron (ron), Thursday, 3 October 2002 02:31 (twenty-two years ago)

all the kewl people will be on the sidewalk, skateboarding and rokken like dokken

Dave M. (rotten03), Thursday, 3 October 2002 04:04 (twenty-two years ago)

i hope nobody is going to wear PANTS

ron (ron), Thursday, 3 October 2002 04:08 (twenty-two years ago)

is that the UK version of pants or the US definition?

jel -- (jel), Thursday, 3 October 2002 06:17 (twenty-two years ago)

both hopefully

Josh (Josh), Thursday, 3 October 2002 13:34 (twenty-two years ago)

I will definitely be wearing UK pants.

Whether I wear a skirt or US pants has not been decided.

rosemary (rosemary), Thursday, 3 October 2002 13:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Just a little BUMP to clear your head.

The 18th being a Friday, and the weather getting chilly, those of us who don't need to be at work, or don't have work to be at, should think about getting to the Art Bar's fireplace sometime around 4. Otherwise the happy hour thong will be suffocating.

Benjamin, Tuesday, 8 October 2002 21:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Ah... the THRONG. The happy hour THRONG. Will be suffocating. Not the thong.

Benjamin, Tuesday, 8 October 2002 21:19 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah, yeah...don't try to back track now.

jess (dubplatestyle), Tuesday, 8 October 2002 21:23 (twenty-two years ago)

But I thought Boston Terrastock was the biggest North American meet up ever. Taking sides: Boston FAP vs NYC FAP!

Ben--nice idea about suffocating thongs, they aren't they, ladies? but unforunately I will not be able to arrive until 6-ish; please save me a space among the happy hours...

Mary (Mary), Tuesday, 8 October 2002 21:29 (twenty-two years ago)

How many people were at the February NYC meet-up? That could still challenge!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 8 October 2002 21:57 (twenty-two years ago)

i will probably try to get there early. i am still debating whether to stay in manhattan that night or head back out to brooklyn. if the latter, i may not stay too long so that i can get to my friends' house on the early side (they have small kids etc. and are probably not on party people schedule)

looking forward to it!

ron (ron), Tuesday, 8 October 2002 23:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Ron: make plans to stay all night... You never know what you'll miss if you leave early...

Mary (Mary), Wednesday, 9 October 2002 00:30 (twenty-two years ago)

yow!

ron (ron), Wednesday, 9 October 2002 01:20 (twenty-two years ago)

New York vs. Philly: FITE! It's like one of those Real World vs. Road Rules challenges (Dang will agree).

Nicole (Nicole), Wednesday, 9 October 2002 01:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Wouldn't Dan be the ultimate host for a TV show on the matter?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 9 October 2002 01:26 (twenty-two years ago)

YAY!!!! I'm going to NYC in a week to visit my crush!!! YAY ILE! I'll be there. YAY!!!

YAY!!!

YAY!!!

gabriel rodriguez-doerr (gabe), Wednesday, 9 October 2002 01:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Hey, very cool -- have a good time! But now you have to confess about this crush some more, since you brought it up. ;-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 9 October 2002 01:29 (twenty-two years ago)

thongs should not be an issue as we are all enjoyed from wearing pants of any sort. This should also make it easier for gabe to find us and perhaps increase our chances of claiming sofas:

us: "Excuse me, I was sitting there."
seated Art Bar patron: (flees in horror)

felicity (felicity), Wednesday, 9 October 2002 02:35 (twenty-two years ago)

freudian slip o' the day: enjoyed= enjoined

felicity (felicity), Wednesday, 9 October 2002 02:36 (twenty-two years ago)

YAY! More people! ron, if you can, try to stay in manhattan!

rosemary (rosemary), Wednesday, 9 October 2002 02:36 (twenty-two years ago)

gabriel: "Excuse me, do you love everything?"
seated Art Bar patron: (flees in horror)

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 9 October 2002 02:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Wah wah wah (he says weeping). Now this is all getting even more fun. Create an effigy of me and prop it up at the table (you may abuse it if you choose).

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 9 October 2002 02:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Ned- uhm.. her name is Morgen. She's fierce and dreamy and smart and she goes to eugene lang in manhattan. i met her last summer when she came home to st. paul for vacation. i promised i'd visit her in october.

I think i'm in love. (i always fall in love with gurls when they're about to go somewhere REELLY REELLY far away)

BUT. I don't have a car, and I can't afford a plane ticket, and I really don't want to spend the better part of a week riding the Greyhound or freight train or hitchhiking. SO...

if anyone is passing through the midwest on the way there, you should PICK ME UP AND GIVE ME A RIDE!!!

i'll bring mixtapes and I'll entertain you and we can talk and i'm really quite a good driver. If need be I could even make it down to chicago to meet up.

anyone?

gabriel rodriguez-doerr (gabe), Wednesday, 9 October 2002 02:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Aw. I like the spirit of it, m'friend, so best of luck.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 9 October 2002 03:15 (twenty-two years ago)

I will probably go to this here shindig. I plan to say at least 6 words this time!

bnw (bnw), Wednesday, 9 October 2002 05:44 (twenty-two years ago)

can really super shiny-like new people come to the FAP? ive been searching for an excuse to go up to the city for a night.

amy (amy), Wednesday, 9 October 2002 21:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Of course you can go to that -- hell, I'm not even going to be there and I'm telling you to go! :-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 9 October 2002 21:41 (twenty-two years ago)

maura- ace bar was MY bar when i was in college. i drank underage and for free there at least 3 nights a week. it was heaven.
HOWEVER
have you been there recently? because i was there over the summer and the bartender i knew was gone and the bouncer i knew was gone and it had this weird tacky purple neon thing going on outside and the crowd was less aging punk rockers and more trendy midtowners. i think there was a management change or something. i almost died.
but still, pinball, so.

amy (amy), Wednesday, 9 October 2002 21:42 (twenty-two years ago)

aw ned, i Wish you were going! actually, i wish i were going to boston this weekend. but either would be nice.

amy (amy), Wednesday, 9 October 2002 21:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Hey, I wish I could go! But there's this thing called lack of money and vacation time, and... ;-) Will catch you when I'm in NYC again next year.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 9 October 2002 21:47 (twenty-two years ago)

yay! some sort of yearly pilgrammage?

amy (amy), Wednesday, 9 October 2002 22:16 (twenty-two years ago)

How will this event ever live up to cesspool of sexual tension that seems to be building on this here board? More semantic slips, please!

Tracer: Do you believe the burka is a more feminist article of clothing than a leather G-string?

seated Art Bar patron: (flees in horror)

Mary (Mary), Wednesday, 9 October 2002 23:25 (twenty-two years ago)

This is going to be like a bad satire of the Vice fashion dos and don'ts.

felicity (felicity), Wednesday, 9 October 2002 23:40 (twenty-two years ago)

yay! some sort of yearly pilgrammage?

Starting to shape up that way!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 10 October 2002 00:23 (twenty-two years ago)

i have booked a hotel in the village for thurs and friday so that settles that... :-)

ron (ron), Thursday, 10 October 2002 00:50 (twenty-two years ago)

(@)

rainy (rainy), Thursday, 10 October 2002 01:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Who'd have ever dreamed an Internet message-board meetup would consist of a bunch of girls all trying to convince a boy to spend the night in the city?

nabisco (nabisco), Thursday, 10 October 2002 14:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Also Gabe if you can pack yourself into a suitcase and be in Chicago by next Thursday morning I would be happy to check you onto my flight.

(NB just in case: that is a joke.)

nabisco (nabisco), Thursday, 10 October 2002 14:40 (twenty-two years ago)

"Who'd have ever dreamed an Internet message-board meetup would consist of a bunch of girls all trying to convince a boy to spend the night in the city? "

ILM continues to defy the sexual stereotypes!

Mary (Mary), Thursday, 10 October 2002 19:24 (twenty-two years ago)

The last one was almost even split. A far cry from the days of 10 geeky guys and Ally.

bnw (bnw), Thursday, 10 October 2002 19:30 (twenty-two years ago)

10 geeky guys and Ally.

Coming this fall on ABC!

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 10 October 2002 20:38 (twenty-two years ago)

That probably would be an excellent sitcom. It's got to be better than that one with John Ritter, anyway.

Nicole (Nicole), Thursday, 10 October 2002 21:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Dude, 10 geeky guys and Ally is so untrue. Ain't no one beating the days of 4 pissed off guys and Ally. Ya'all missed the one where we were thrown out of Potion because Otis screamed that I was a whore and then told Jimmy the Bouncer that Jimmy could only get Otis to put out his cigar by dragging it out of his cold, dead hands. WHatever, maybe I'll go, it was "casually mentioned" to me earlier this week. Maybe I can convince O-Town to go and call me a whore in a charming old skool flashback. DO YOU PEOPLE NOT REALISE THIS IS SET FOR A FRIDAY AT 5??? If I go I won't be showing til like 2 hours late (1 or 1 and a half if I don't stop to change out of my suit), I have a high pressure job. Don't you people WORK?

Ally, Friday, 11 October 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago)

i work, but i'm on holiday! who is going to be there again i forgot? dc and boston (part 1) meet ups have been cool, looking forward to nyc too...

gareth (gareth), Friday, 11 October 2002 04:40 (twenty-two years ago)

I'll be there.

Jody Beth Rosen, Friday, 11 October 2002 04:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Surely someone made that post up as an Ally parody.

nabisco (nabisco), Friday, 11 October 2002 06:14 (twenty-two years ago)

it is insanely early though. i dont normally get to these things until at least 8

gareth (gareth), Friday, 11 October 2002 13:24 (twenty-two years ago)

who would be so sad as to imitate me?

Ally, Friday, 11 October 2002 17:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Might I post a request for subway directions to the bar in question originating from Grand Central? Please and thank you.

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 11 October 2002 17:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Ya'all missed the one where we were thrown out of Potion because Otis screamed that I was a whore and then told Jimmy the Bouncer that Jimmy could only get Otis to put out his cigar by dragging it out of his cold, dead hands.

I remember that one pretty clearly, ma'am. After all, it's not every day you end up standing on a deserted street corner with two drunk belligerent guys from Massachusetts and a really nice Tower Records exec, saying 'hmm... that's pretty weird, huh? well, i guess we'll wait ten more minutes...'

Dave M. (rotten03), Friday, 11 October 2002 17:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Daver - 4, 5, 6, to Union Square. L West out to last stop at 8th Ave. From there. I think its a couple blocks south(?).

bnw (bnw), Friday, 11 October 2002 18:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes, about a block or two south from the L. It's on the East side of 8th Ave., just before you hit W. 4th St and after you hit Horatio.

nory (nory), Friday, 11 October 2002 19:20 (twenty-two years ago)

[trying to think of semantical slip....]

M Matos (M Matos), Saturday, 12 October 2002 05:41 (twenty-two years ago)

after you hit Horatio.

Well damn! I hope Horatio hits back!

Jody Beth Rosen, Saturday, 12 October 2002 07:02 (twenty-two years ago)

i arrive in nyc tomorrow afternoon, this thing on friday at the art bar, what time is everyone getting there for, surely not 5? are you serious? no, what time are people getting there really?

gareth (gareth), Tuesday, 15 October 2002 17:32 (twenty-two years ago)

probably six-ish for me, maybe earlier though
how long you in town for Gareth?

Paul (scifisoul), Tuesday, 15 October 2002 17:53 (twenty-two years ago)

This FAP will be a distaster if people don't take the time seriously.

Friday evening is an absolutely horrible time to meet up with a group of people for drinks in Manhattan.

From six to eight or so, the after-work thong packs the bars. After eight or nine, and until midnight or one at least, it's a Friday night, and practically every bar is elbow-to-elbow.

I believe that a Friday was selected for the sake of Our Out Of Town visitors (who now seem to be scratching their heads at the early time). We had previously been having relatively successful meet-ups on less congested Saturday afternoons.

So I have to underscore that while it may seem early to meet up for drinks at five or a bit thereafter, tardiness will make for a poor FAP.

Benjamin, Tuesday, 15 October 2002 19:04 (twenty-two years ago)

I'll try to save us some space by showing up at 5 in my hoopskirt

felicity (felicity), Tuesday, 15 October 2002 19:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Benjamin is very right about this timing issue, and Nabisco and I will be there at 5ish.

nory (nory), Tuesday, 15 October 2002 20:06 (twenty-two years ago)

This FAP will be a distaster

ie, one who does not taste?

*continues being envious of everyone there -- wah wah wah*

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 15 October 2002 20:13 (twenty-two years ago)

I will save seats by giving strangers the evil eye.

bnw (bnw), Tuesday, 15 October 2002 20:16 (twenty-two years ago)

I'll be there 5:30-ish, probably. I wanna catch some of that happy hour action.

Jody Beth Rosen, Tuesday, 15 October 2002 20:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, look for the creepy guy passing out sheep eyes at the bar.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 15 October 2002 20:23 (twenty-two years ago)

I can't be there until 7 or 7:30. If it matters.

Yancey (ystrickler), Tuesday, 15 October 2002 20:25 (twenty-two years ago)

ok ok, 5.30!

gareth (gareth), Tuesday, 15 October 2002 21:06 (twenty-two years ago)

5:30ish I hope. Depends on work.

Dave M. (rotten03), Tuesday, 15 October 2002 21:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Don't worry, guys! Back in September, when we picked the date for this, I stopped bathing, so by Friday I should be more than able to clear out the whole bar.

nabisco (nabisco), Tuesday, 15 October 2002 21:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Nabisco, you cannot reek. You exude the confident smell of an editor.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 16 October 2002 00:17 (twenty-two years ago)

It is my birthday but maybe I can squeeze you all in between my fancy dinner and my frolicsome party! I will be the one wearing a pointy tasselled hat and other festive accessories. Presents are not necessary.

Paul Eater (eater), Wednesday, 16 October 2002 04:05 (twenty-two years ago)

excellent! a gathering AND a b-day party to crash en masse!

M Matos (M Matos), Wednesday, 16 October 2002 04:50 (twenty-two years ago)

i arrive later today, and i leave on sunday evening

gareth (gareth), Wednesday, 16 October 2002 13:39 (twenty-two years ago)

we've got nice English weather here to welcome you...

Paul (scifisoul), Wednesday, 16 October 2002 16:15 (twenty-two years ago)

ron (ron), Wednesday, 16 October 2002 18:33 (twenty-two years ago)

i just saw punch drunk love.

So was it any good?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 16 October 2002 18:46 (twenty-two years ago)

welcome to New York, ron! I'm looking forward to meeting you and everybody else and to seeing the others I've met before.

From six to eight or so, the after-work thong packs the bars

I still plan to get there early to get a good view of this thong Benjamin keeps telling us about.

felicity (felicity), Thursday, 17 October 2002 07:05 (twenty-two years ago)

So was it any good?

Really good.

^Diego^ (dhadis), Thursday, 17 October 2002 12:58 (twenty-two years ago)

i am in new york, and the new england weather has gone, it is sunny now

gareth (gareth), Thursday, 17 October 2002 13:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Ron, don't forget to track down some REAL bagels!!

lyra (lyra), Thursday, 17 October 2002 15:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Could one of you early-bird FAP folks w/ a cell phone please e-mail me off-channel (w/ your cell phone number), so's I don't get lost in this biiig city?

I'm hoping to get there early-ish as well - I haven't seen a good thong since _Varsity Blues_!

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 17 October 2002 15:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Gareth, where are you staying? I am due into the HI NY this evening.

Alan (Alan), Thursday, 17 October 2002 17:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Like Amy, I'm one of the quite-new who may also try to stop by. Since it sounds like the goal is to gather 'round the fireplace, it's probably worth noting (if it hasn't already) that it's in the back room, which isn't immediately noticeable upon walking in.

Jen, Thursday, 17 October 2002 19:10 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm at the ymca on west 63rd near columbus circle. i should have gone in the HI, the ones in dc, philly and boston were all good, and it would have been cheaper. :(

i walked past the art bar today

gareth (gareth), Friday, 18 October 2002 00:31 (twenty-two years ago)

wanna meet up? i just got in and am prob gonna just sleep til tomorrow, still if you see this...

Alan (Alan), Friday, 18 October 2002 00:36 (twenty-two years ago)

welcome to NY, Alan and gareth! see you tomorrow (and hi Jen)

felicity (felicity), Friday, 18 October 2002 00:48 (twenty-two years ago)

ALLEZ AU ART BAR!

Paul (scifisoul), Friday, 18 October 2002 18:44 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm not going to get there until 6ish, i only just got back to where i'm staying, i need to change and stuff.

gareth (gareth), Friday, 18 October 2002 20:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Ha, in the 4 ILx meets I've attended, there has never been more than one woman present per meet.

sundar subramanian, Friday, 18 October 2002 20:42 (twenty-two years ago)

boooo...i should be there RIGHT NOW. damn work.

amy (amy), Saturday, 19 October 2002 03:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, that was fun, wasn't it? I think I got too drunk. A tad, perhaps.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Saturday, 19 October 2002 12:16 (twenty-two years ago)

More stories please!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 19 October 2002 13:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Hmm...well, for starters, I think we probably paid far far too much money on our tab.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Saturday, 19 October 2002 14:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Then you should have done the right thing and give the extra money to me.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 19 October 2002 14:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh, I really shouldn't tell tales out of school. Well, ok!

Douglas Wolk gave out CDs and mini-CDs (aw, cute) as party favors.
Michael Daddino feels very strongly about the superiority of Royal Crown to Dax.
Tracer brought Emma B. and will teach us this mental domino game with suits called 42.
nabisco coined the term "Squinty Matos."
Matos has some theories about Boston.
Jen informed me that "Rip It Up" is actually late Orange Juice. Who knew?
After much cajoling, Mary forced bnw to choose between the daughter and the mother in the Gilmore Girls.
Alan did NOT say, "We don't have to talk about that. I KNOW" about Morrisey and warned us about the Spanish Bar.
Paul Kennedy brought his sister and is going to help me replace my scratched "Back in Denim." We wuv Wawrence!
ron brought his cousin. Both violated the no PANTS injunction.
rosemary obeyed the no US pants part of the injunction and introduced Alan to cheese sticks.
nory, Gareth and I decided that Lion Bars are superior to $100,000 bars.
Andy recommends Punch Drunk Love. He doesn't really need those glasses, although they are very nice.
Ally's crystal cross was not, in fact, an enormously heavy piece of work from Bacarrat, as I had always imagined.
I forgot to give Jody Beth her spanking. She and Geeta will have to fess up to what everyone did after I parted from the crowd at the 14th Street subway station.

felicity (felicity), Saturday, 19 October 2002 14:44 (twenty-two years ago)

i had wild lesbian sex in your honor since i couldn't be there.

jess (dubplatestyle), Saturday, 19 October 2002 14:46 (twenty-two years ago)

you realize, jess, that you have a lot to answer for at the FAP we do when you come to town.

felicity (felicity), Saturday, 19 October 2002 14:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Matos has some theories about Boston.

Doubtless having to do with the fact that one cannot find a place that serves beer after midnight (or rather, serves unskunky beer).

Anyway, *jealous jealous jealous* as I've said before. Sounds like a wonderful evening. :-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 19 October 2002 14:52 (twenty-two years ago)

i will only dance topless for money, felicity. once you go pro, you can't go back.

jess (dubplatestyle), Saturday, 19 October 2002 14:55 (twenty-two years ago)

so how many people observed the no pants injuction?

jel -- (jel), Saturday, 19 October 2002 14:57 (twenty-two years ago)

I think only Jen, rosemary and I, although Alan promised he wasn't wearing UK pants.

felicity (felicity), Saturday, 19 October 2002 15:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Once the crowd dwindled down to just the total hardcore drunks, we ran out on some horny drunk dude at Plant Bar when he went to the bathroom. Which is great in and of itself, made better by the fact that we then just went to the bar right across the street. All the early leavers missed out BIG TIME.

Oh, and it was quite cold for no pants.

Ally, Saturday, 19 October 2002 15:06 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't know if it was food poisoning or a narrowly averted flu, but I feel much better this morning. I apologize to anyone I was boring or aloof to toward the end of the night: I was mostly trying not to be sick on you. If not for that, Nory and I would have been in for the long haul.

Photos forthcoming!

nabisco (nabisco), Saturday, 19 October 2002 15:16 (twenty-two years ago)

OH! So now you now how it feels to show up not feeling too well and have everyone think you are actually just being a snob! HMMMMM! ;)

Ally, Saturday, 19 October 2002 15:25 (twenty-two years ago)

No, I think all the groaning and "pardon me, but I am going to jump over this table and run away very very quickly" and Nory asking "are you sure you're all right?" probably let everyone know I wasn't being snobby. But just in case.

nabisco (nabisco), Saturday, 19 October 2002 15:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Pictures.

Apologies if anyone pictured here would prefer not to be pictured.

Alan has promised to Photoshop adorable kittens into these pictures when he gets home.

nabisco (nabisco), Saturday, 19 October 2002 16:09 (twenty-two years ago)

ha shouldn't you have asked BEFORE you put them up then?

Josh (Josh), Saturday, 19 October 2002 16:16 (twenty-two years ago)

cool pics, I like the lightening strike in the second one!

jel -- (jel), Saturday, 19 October 2002 16:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Are *all* the gurls actually really cute, or are you just a smart photographer?

Mark C (Mark C), Saturday, 19 October 2002 16:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Probably the former. :-) Mike's solo shot is very amusing, and yes, that Geeta/Tracer shot means they should form a band and make more photos like that.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 19 October 2002 16:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Are *all* the gurls actually really cute, or are you just a smart photographer?

Actually, all the girls are really cute, but you'd never know it to look at that weird face I seem to be making in the picture.

Jody Beth Rosen, Saturday, 19 October 2002 17:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Once the crowd dwindled down to just the total hardcore drunks

*hic*

we ran out on some horny drunk dude at Plant Bar when he went to the bathroom.

He was putting the moves on all the womenfolk (and some of the menfolk) and blathering incoherently, and we were glad to get rid of him. Matos, surprisingly, was the gladdest of all ("That was brilliant! Greatest action ever performed at an FAP!").

Which is great in and of itself, made better by the fact that we then just went to the bar right across the street.

Yes. Big ups to the Parkside Lounge. "Suspicious Minds" + 4 a.m. + group drunkenness = YAY.

Jody Beth Rosen, Saturday, 19 October 2002 17:24 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm going to go back to Parkside Lounge just to play more "Revenge from Mars" pinball. My god, what a pinball machine. roXor!!!

geeta (geeta), Saturday, 19 October 2002 17:45 (twenty-two years ago)

I think our next meetup should involve punk karaoke at Arlene Grocery.

Jody Beth Rosen, Saturday, 19 October 2002 18:43 (twenty-two years ago)

felicity, Game 4 is this Wednesday at 8:30PM

i had a great time meeting everyone, sorry about bagging out early. ah drunken ILX pinball now i will cry!!

YES to karaoke

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Saturday, 19 October 2002 18:50 (twenty-two years ago)

If I can do karaoke to Gang of Four I'm THERE.

Ally, Saturday, 19 October 2002 19:11 (twenty-two years ago)

There's a songlist on the web site.

Here's the rundown:

*It's at Arlene Grocery, 95 Stanton Street between Ludlow and Orchard (one block south of Houston).

*Every Monday night, starting at 10 (signups start at about 9:30).

*It's not really "karaoke" -- there's a house band that plays behind you while you sing.

Jody Beth Rosen, Saturday, 19 October 2002 19:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Some of the "punk" choices are questionable, but it's all in good fun.

Jody Beth Rosen, Saturday, 19 October 2002 19:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Wow, Felicity--I am impressed you could remember such trenchent points of the FAP--I got started much later than the lot of you and even I had forgotten most (ok, all) of those things! Oh no! My picture's on ILx--but where is Felicity Redwell's? To speak of the FAP post-Felicity (as it shall hereafter be referred to) a walking exodus occurred to Beauty Bar, 30 some minutes later, upon arrival at said BB, someone (Paul?) proposed that BB was not quite up to snuff... The walking continued! Ally was a sport! After another 30 minutes had elapsed--we arrived at Rock Around the Clock--or whatever--a (oh no!) restauarant. I imagined Gareth feverishly composing his 'Americans are strange' post, part II...Once fortfied with foodstuffs, during which Gareth staged his silent protest by sitting at the restaurant bar, apart from eating crowds, no wonder he stays so lithesome!, the walking continued! Onward Ilx soldiers! Paul proposed Plant Bar, so Plant Bar it was...However, circumstances there being not quite gelling--as other posters have referred to--again it was 'exodus! momement of the peoples!' and Paul propsed a bar on Orchard, and the gang was most ready to L.E.S. it up! but I spotted Parkside, the bar a stone's throw from the place I like to call home, and the gang amiably agreed, Gareth to wit upon arrival, "You lied about it being really good, but I don't care..." Gareth and I closed the bar down! The others left when they realized they couldn't get anymore alcohol out of said establishment, but Gareth and I, not to be outdone, made sure to stay until they forcibly kicked out us out... Art Bar: did anyone else have a hard time finding that place? And I live in NY! I do not recommend the Art Bar hostesses--all I wanted was beer, a lot of it, and it was hard to get!! Glad to speak to meet Nory (who I forgot to ask if she liked Nicholson Baker, duh!) and Nitsuh was so charming I didn't notice he was sick, though excessive drinking could have been clowding my perception, nice to reconnect with Andy (who is reading Eggers), Tracer (who will be watching more Beat Takeshi), and Byron (who I can't remember, which was it then, Rory or Lorelai; Rory was it??) Guests of honor Alan & Gareth (who propogated a theory of British cinema that I can't for the life of me remember today--though Spice Girls was an exeption to the rule!) k-kewl--please grace us with your presence again! Alan & Gareth safe trip back to the motherland--Tonight Geeta (who I am very impressed saw Bowie in the Bronx) & I are off to Tindersticks in Dumbo; ah FR, wherefore you don't come?!

Mary (Mary), Saturday, 19 October 2002 19:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Theory of British Cinema: What was the last good British film, Kes or Spice World?

rosemary (rosemary), Saturday, 19 October 2002 20:33 (twenty-two years ago)

still feeling utterly shagged out - that's what lots of booze and less than 3 hrs sleep'll get you. even though Around The Clock was the least exciting part - hate to think how much worse if we hadn't eaten! ditching wotsizname at Plant Bar mucho fun.

final group was Matos, Geeta, Jody, Ally, Gareth, Mary n me, until I had to leave cos of early (8am) food coop dairy cooler shift, which I struggled thru. how late was last call at Parkside anyway?

large boisterous FAP - must have been at least 20-25 of us at Art Bar at peak: gender ratio around 50/50. good meeting everyone and seeing ol friends again. next time we'll get a DJ/rave night going for Gareth, who Nitsuh managed to capture better (than Boston...) in the photos. nice one of my sister, too. Punk Rock / Metal Karaoke next time!

Paul (scifisoul), Saturday, 19 October 2002 20:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Once I nail down my next NYC visit -- hopefully well in advance of it happening! -- I demand a FAP to rival that of the gods. Er, please? ;-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 19 October 2002 20:57 (twenty-two years ago)

we ran out on some horny drunk dude at Plant Bar when he went to the bathroom.

That was the guy I gave my e-mail address to, wasn't it?

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Saturday, 19 October 2002 22:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Such a fun night! It was great to meet you all...sorry nabisco and I had to sneak out early, but, when it comes down to it, I'd probably had enough to drink already...
9
Anyway, I look forward to seeing you all again! (Felicity and M. Matos, please let me know when the bridge plans are solidified.)

And now nabisco is going to teach me how to do italics. Let's practice:

italics

nory (nory), Sunday, 20 October 2002 01:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Woohoo! It worked!

nory (nory), Sunday, 20 October 2002 01:59 (twenty-two years ago)

(Mary: In the light of less booze, I would like to change my answer to being Rory's older bro. That way I could tell her to ditch Dean and go for Jess, but don't let him treat you like shit which will undoubtedly occur in like 5 episodes.)

bnw (bnw), Sunday, 20 October 2002 02:06 (twenty-two years ago)

The mystery head is me, nabisco!

rosemary (rosemary), Sunday, 20 October 2002 03:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Paul:

"hate to think how much worse if we hadn't eaten!"

Oh yeah, I was soo sick and tired today!

"I had to leave cos of early (8am) food coop dairy cooler shift"

Oh good, I was paranoid that your early departure was indicative of your displeasure with Parkside as opposed to Orchard St.! Now I remember this co-op thing! Wow--how did you do it? I could barely make it to Brooklyn for the 8 PM Tindersticks show. Which was rockin' by the way...

how late was last call at Parkside anyway?

I think it was around 4--criminal!

Mary (Mary), Sunday, 20 October 2002 04:35 (twenty-two years ago)

I am so sad I missed it! When is the next one? Very soon?

Paul Eater (eater), Sunday, 20 October 2002 04:51 (twenty-two years ago)

we missed you, too! We should think about a special holiday edition, or even sooner, if people prefer.

felicity (felicity), Sunday, 20 October 2002 04:53 (twenty-two years ago)

It seems like I've already snagged a few people into doing karaoke on some forthcoming Monday night. When should we do this?

Jody Beth Rosen, Sunday, 20 October 2002 05:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Karaoke! I call "Photograph"! Any Monday at all, any Monday at all.

Other Paul: do you work at the E. 4th St. coop?

Paul Eater (eater), Sunday, 20 October 2002 05:31 (twenty-two years ago)

i very much enjoyed meeting everyone. i am now safely back in seattle but will keep fond memories of nyc nestled closely to my bosom

ron (ron), Sunday, 20 October 2002 06:40 (twenty-two years ago)

That way I could tell her to ditch Dean and go for Jess

this is good advice in general.

jess (dubplatestyle), Sunday, 20 October 2002 11:23 (twenty-two years ago)

This karaoke plan sounds interesting. I should mention that Chuck Eddy dj night is a running Monday event and he has specifically given me permission, in fact encouraged me, to invite all of Ilx! SX-137, that is to say on Essex st, say around 10-ish. Ilx continues to L.E.S. it up! Oh, and once this punk rock karaoke has been gotten out of everyone's system, I propose Japanese-style karaoke(booths!) at Village Karaoke...the best!

Bnw---I hope you are watching GG 'Beginnings' first season revisited tonight at 7! GG pre-Jess! I heart Jess (I'm not sure if I made this clear Sat.--though I imagine I did.)

Mary (Mary), Sunday, 20 October 2002 13:40 (twenty-two years ago)

I should mention that Chuck Eddy dj night is a running Monday event and he has specifically given me permission, in fact encouraged me, to invite all of Ilx!

*cries* I can see it now -- THIS happens and then Kevin Shields walks in the door the same night.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 20 October 2002 15:41 (twenty-two years ago)

I think I am finally recovered from Friday night, though it sounds like I missed quite a bit after leaving 11-ish. It was great meeting you all -- ILXors know how to welcome a newcomer, for sure! And re: the punk rock karaokie idea: YES. Though I think they need to add to the song selection a wee bit, I do like the idea of attempting "Teenage Kicks"...

Jen, Sunday, 20 October 2002 16:40 (twenty-two years ago)

I think our next meet up should be at the Crazy Moose anyhow. Queens! Booyah!

And yes, Mike, you did give your information to that guy. I wonder if he's still looking for us.

Ally, Sunday, 20 October 2002 22:18 (twenty-two years ago)

So where was Mr. "get there at 5 or else!" Benjamin? And maura.com?

bnw (bnw), Sunday, 20 October 2002 22:31 (twenty-two years ago)

All hail ILX L.E.S'ing it up! Chuckles vs. Punk Rock karaoke--how to decide? (if you must know, Chuck's been playing early, like 9-ish, so maybe that and THEN P.R.K.)

JBR: I don't think it's so unusual I was so relieved that creep was gone. He pissed me off on lots of levels (not just rubbing up on the women). Good fucking riddance to him.

Paul K is the MAN! (his idea to ditch the fucker) Glad you made it through the co-op day, too!

M Matos (M Matos), Sunday, 20 October 2002 22:33 (twenty-two years ago)

It was the Art Bar or a weekend with non-functioning toilet. So I waited on the plumber. As it turns out, I could have made it with hours of boozing left over.

As for karaoke: Village K. just has little rooms for you and your closest friends' private pleasure. I am of the 'making a drunken ass of yourself in front of total strangers' school, which meets regularly at Winnie's, down on Baxter Street (Pongsri/Thailand Restaurant beforehand!).

Punk Rock Karaoke is a racket now. The same small set of regulars do the same small set of songs, and God help you if the guy with the clipboard doesn't know you. You'll sip weak drinks for hours while stockbrokers prance about onstage to the Misfits, or better yet, sing 'Kill the Poor.'

Benjamin, Sunday, 20 October 2002 22:45 (twenty-two years ago)

You'll sip weak drinks for hours while stockbrokers prance about onstage to the Misfits

GREATEST THING EVER!!! That's brilliant. Except the weak drinks thing, but that's why you order beer in bars.

Ally, Sunday, 20 October 2002 23:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Pongsri

Good place.

I haven't gone in a few months, but it wasn't this bad last time I was there. I'm only a quasi-regular, but I've never had to wait too long to be called onstage, and the singers definitely did NOT seem stockbrokerish -- it was cute punk girls and dorky metalhead dudes.

Jody Beth Rosen, Sunday, 20 October 2002 23:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Paul K is the MAN! (his idea to ditch the fucker)

Indeed. Viva Paul K!

Jody Beth Rosen, Sunday, 20 October 2002 23:19 (twenty-two years ago)

That just sounds like a reason for everybody to show up and intimidate them with our numbers, so we can prance while the stockbrokers sip.

Not that I don't love Winnie's!

Paul Eater (eater), Sunday, 20 October 2002 23:24 (twenty-two years ago)

psst... ally, how tall are you? also why was there no dave r.

ron (ron), Sunday, 20 October 2002 23:26 (twenty-two years ago)

heightism -- oh no!

ron, do you like jess?

felicity (felicity), Monday, 21 October 2002 00:34 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah, jess is ok with me. i mean, he's no goebbels or anything...

i thought ally looked fairly tall, curious as to the numbers

ron (ron), Monday, 21 October 2002 01:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Why am I the only person getting asked? I demand to know everyone's height! I'm 5'8".

We should have a costume meet up for Halloween, because my original party was cancelled and now I got nowhere to wear this stupid ass outfit.

Ally, Monday, 21 October 2002 02:01 (twenty-two years ago)

I wasn't feeling to great come the time I wanted to head down to Stamford, so instead of risking an awful first impression (which I do well enough when I'm not feeling queasy), I opted out. Of course, I felt better by about the time I would've arrived @ NYC. But, yeah.

David R. (popshots75`), Monday, 21 October 2002 02:01 (twenty-two years ago)

I feel the love!

Paul (scifisoul), Monday, 21 October 2002 02:17 (twenty-two years ago)

But do you feel the Halloween Party?

Ally, Monday, 21 October 2002 02:22 (twenty-two years ago)

i thought you were taller, ally. i usually tell people that i am 6'3" but several folks have tried to persuade me that i'm a bit taller than that.

sorry you were poorly, dave. i am sympathetic, as i nearly postponed my flight to nyc cuz i was feeling so ass at the time.

ron (ron), Monday, 21 October 2002 02:25 (twenty-two years ago)

i was feeling so ass at the time.

I wish I was feeling some ass!

Oh.

Jody Beth Rosen, Monday, 21 October 2002 02:27 (twenty-two years ago)

I might be taller. I actually have no idea how tall I am, I just throw out random numbers. I'm not that tall though, I reckon.

Ally, Monday, 21 October 2002 02:43 (twenty-two years ago)

"I wonder if he's still looking for us."

I wonder if he's lurking! Oh no!

"As for karaoke: Village K. just has little rooms for you and your closest friends' private pleasure. I am of the 'making a drunken ass of yourself in front of total strangers' school..."

B-but private booths is how it's done in Japan! It's so much more, intimate! And they have larger booths for larger numbers of people!

"We should have a costume meet up for Halloween, because my original party was cancelled and now I got nowhere to wear this stupid ass outfit."

Wear your costume to Stereo Total at the Knitting Factory! I'll be there; Felicity *should* be there...Anyone else like to come?

Mary (Mary), Monday, 21 October 2002 02:52 (twenty-two years ago)

hey, I'll be at Stereo Total. So *should* bnw, ifhe decides to pick up his pass that day.

felicity (felicity), Monday, 21 October 2002 02:55 (twenty-two years ago)

I might be there.

Jody Beth Rosen, Monday, 21 October 2002 02:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Ooh, me me me! (for Stereo Total).

rosemary (rosemary), Monday, 21 October 2002 02:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Wait! I want to go! Of course it's bloody midweek so that screws me over anyhow. SIGH.

Ally, Monday, 21 October 2002 03:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Yay bnw, Rosemary,JBR & Ally! Any other takers? And we really should revive the pre-Streets meet up thread, I believe the concert is fast approaching. Anyone see the Simon Reynolds article in the Sun NYT? Geezers! (I still haven't heard the record!) But SR wrote that it will be released domestically Tues.--no thanks to you M. Matos! Rosemary, since you're here, which of the Chickfactor will you be attending? I'll be at the Sat. night Would-be-Goods...

Mary (Mary), Monday, 21 October 2002 03:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Oooh, I don't if I'm going Mary, I need to save money!

rosemary (rosemary), Monday, 21 October 2002 03:23 (twenty-two years ago)

B-but Chickfactor is cheap! Only $12! Come to Would-be-Goods! 'The camera loves me...and it can't take its eyes off me...'

Mary (Mary), Monday, 21 October 2002 03:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Hmm, I wish I could go to the Saturday Chickfactor night as well, but have a conflict. Planning on going to the Friday one (Honeybunch, Lois, etc.), though.

Jen, Monday, 21 October 2002 04:15 (twenty-two years ago)

BTW: ducking out before the tab arrives at an ILX meetup = BIG FAT FUCKING DUD

M Matos (M Matos), Monday, 21 October 2002 06:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Who paid extra for the final tab at the Art Bar? Because I owe them one drink or the cost there of. (I realized this on the train home.)

bnw (bnw), Monday, 21 October 2002 07:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Bnw: awash with guilt for the sins of the FAP...please apply the deficit to the cost of the next one...

Mary (Mary), Monday, 21 October 2002 10:43 (twenty-two years ago)

my thoughts exactly. just a watchword.

M Matos (M Matos), Monday, 21 October 2002 11:52 (twenty-two years ago)

So what exactly are we doing tonight -- if anything?

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Monday, 21 October 2002 11:56 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm doing you michael

mr hands (mark s), Monday, 21 October 2002 12:31 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm back in grey old england now:(

i had the greatest time, it was brilliant, i want to come back to nyc asap. but mary, i wasnt ducking away from the eating out of protest, we went for a smoke by the bar cuz that guy told me off for smokign at the table.

so, what were the 2 other places we went to? the eaty one, and the end of the night one. i sooooo knew i would be the last one (well, two) out still drinking. but i didnt realise ally, matos, geeta et al left becuase they'd stopped serving, mine was still pretty full at that point.

saturday, there was extensive alcohol related damage. ie i was hungover badly

gareth (gareth), Monday, 21 October 2002 12:58 (twenty-two years ago)

"i wasnt ducking away from the eating out of protest, we went for a smoke by the bar cuz that guy told me off for smokign at the table."

I know! I was just joking!

"so, what were the 2 other places we went to? the eaty one, and the end of the night one. i sooooo knew i would be the last one (well, two) out still drinking. but i didnt realise ally, matos, geeta et al left becuase they'd stopped serving, mine was still pretty full at that point."

And I thought you stayed bc you thought I was so charming! Hmm...I actually don't know if that was the reason for their mass exodus, Geeta last night said it was bc they were *tired* but I can't imagine the whole group leaving on account of tiredness...Matos to thread?

"saturday, there was extensive alcohol related damage. ie i was hungover badly"

We all were! Come back to NYC soon Alan & Gareth, and any other out of town guests!

Mary (Mary), Monday, 21 October 2002 13:13 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm sorry i didn't stay for the hardkore drinking (as is my usual, judging by number of spanish bar visits) but i had to fly out next day, blah blah. anyway yes, it was great to see you all. i just remembered suddenly being surrounded/swooped on by a gaggle of girls when i was on one sofa. that was nice. i will get my pix developed soon and uploaded somewhere soon.

Alan (Alan), Monday, 21 October 2002 13:17 (twenty-two years ago)

I wasn't hungover because I proceeded to sleep for 12 hours. Ahhhh.

I did leave because I was tired. I'd also been completely sober for hours at that point--had sobered up before we left Art Bar--right around the point where Mr. Hands started feelin' on Ally's booty (well, thigh). What. A. Fucking. Creep.

So...Halloween party?

M Matos (M Matos), Monday, 21 October 2002 13:20 (twenty-two years ago)

yes, mary, but what is a beer without great company < /smarm >

i'm coming back asap!

gareth (gareth), Monday, 21 October 2002 13:21 (twenty-two years ago)

(we will eat nachos in Alan's honor at the next NYC FAP, natch)

M Matos (M Matos), Monday, 21 October 2002 13:26 (twenty-two years ago)

"i just remembered suddenly being surrounded/swooped on by a gaggle of girls when i was on one sofa."

See...ILXNYC knows how to treat the menfolk right. And if you are a female visitor, I can promise you will be similarly well treated, by the men or women, whichever is your preference...

"I'd also been completely sober for hours at that point--had sobered up before we left Art Bar"

Oh, really? I so didn't notice... Though I will take credit for participating in the soberization walk around the block ritual...

So...Halloween party?

Come on Matos. Stereo To-tal! You know you want to!

Mary (Mary), Monday, 21 October 2002 13:32 (twenty-two years ago)

you deserve all the credit I can give you for that--had almost forgotten! thanks again.

Come on Matos. Stereo To-tal! You know you want to!

you know I don't want to! we have NOTHING in common...!

M Matos (M Matos), Monday, 21 October 2002 13:37 (twenty-two years ago)

"you deserve all the credit I can give you for that--had almost forgotten! thanks again"

Oh, no problem, it was my pleasure...

"you know I don't want to! we have NOTHING in common...!"

Haha! I almost forgot. B-but it's like a French-German P5...

Mary (Mary), Monday, 21 October 2002 13:44 (twenty-two years ago)

I love having my points made for me

M Matos (M Matos), Monday, 21 October 2002 13:51 (twenty-two years ago)

(also, did you see the P5 book that's on sale at Virgin Megastore? really really up yr alley....)

M Matos (M Matos), Monday, 21 October 2002 13:51 (twenty-two years ago)

m, what was the track on Now...52 that you were so excited about. my copy (and 99% of everything i own) is in storage, but not for long. i hope.

Alan (Alan), Monday, 21 October 2002 13:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Shakedown, "At Night," which Gareth thinks isn't very special and is WRONG about

M Matos (M Matos), Monday, 21 October 2002 14:03 (twenty-two years ago)

yes, but Gareth thinks Kes was the last great UK film despite appearing to have never seen any film in the last 25 years.

Alan (Alan), Monday, 21 October 2002 14:04 (twenty-two years ago)

"I love having my points made for me (also, did you see the P5 book that's on sale at Virgin Megastore? really really up yr alley....)"

I was so waiting for that! Oh really? I would check it out--if going inside Virgin did not make me feel physically ill--ok, no puns on that one please!

Wait--what's this about again? Gareth's favorite film is by Ken Loach?! Is it, like, quantitatively better than all of the other Loach films I've seen? (FITE!)

Mary (Mary), Monday, 21 October 2002 14:21 (twenty-two years ago)

i meant "made in the last 25 years" obv

Alan (Alan), Monday, 21 October 2002 14:25 (twenty-two years ago)

As for karaoke: I would love to go to Winnie's. I haven't been in a few months. My last visit: the entire crowd swaying hand in hand to "We Are the World."

Yancey (ystrickler), Monday, 21 October 2002 14:38 (twenty-two years ago)

I give the ILXNYC massive six months before their profile piece appears in the New Yorker.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 21 October 2002 16:00 (twenty-two years ago)

since when did everyone in nyc want to become each others butt buddies?

jess (dubplatestyle), Monday, 21 October 2002 16:02 (twenty-two years ago)

ILX is just like fight club, chapters all over the world. But who is the evil Tom, or is Tom the Brad Pitt?

jel -- (jel), Monday, 21 October 2002 16:05 (twenty-two years ago)

ever since you hinted you might move back here, Jess

M Matos (M Matos), Monday, 21 October 2002 16:12 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm doing you michael

Isn't that Jess' job?

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Monday, 21 October 2002 16:54 (twenty-two years ago)

butt buddies

Coming to NBC this fall.

Jody Beth Rosen, Monday, 21 October 2002 17:01 (twenty-two years ago)

I can't get "Photograph" out of my head, curse you all, so I think I'm going to punk/metal karaoke tonight. Any chance any of you will be there?

I probably have Halloween plans but will be there for Stereo Total (and Quintron!) on Nov. 30.

Paul Eater (eater), Monday, 21 October 2002 17:29 (twenty-two years ago)

I can't get "Photograph" out of my head, curse you all, so I think I'm going to punk/metal karaoke tonight. Any chance any of you will be there?

Sure, why not?

Nov. 30

My birthday!

Jody Beth Rosen, Monday, 21 October 2002 17:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Sure, why not?

Um, because I am going to be singing Def Leppard.

My birthday!

It's my dad's birthday too, and my friend W.'s (not the president). Maybe we can have a big Total-fest.

Paul Eater (eater), Monday, 21 October 2002 17:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Um, because I am going to be singing Def Leppard.

Singing Def Leppard in front of a bunch of drunXoR punXoRs = CLASSIC.

Jody Beth Rosen, Monday, 21 October 2002 17:42 (twenty-two years ago)

CLASSIC

So what are you going to perform for us?

Paul Eater (eater), Monday, 21 October 2002 17:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Hmm. "I Fought the Law," maybe?

Jody Beth Rosen, Monday, 21 October 2002 17:55 (twenty-two years ago)

All right!

What time does one arrive?

Paul Eater (eater), Monday, 21 October 2002 18:17 (twenty-two years ago)

I'll be there around ten.

Anyone else coming?

Jody Beth Rosen, Monday, 21 October 2002 18:22 (twenty-two years ago)

I can't make it tonight, but I would absolutely be down for Winnie's this week.

Yancey (ystrickler), Monday, 21 October 2002 18:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Mr. Eater -- I wish you well in your karaoke endeavors, but I've decided to stay home tonight. Lemme know how it went.

Jody Beth Rosen, Monday, 21 October 2002 23:57 (twenty-two years ago)

And I thought you stayed bc you thought I was so charming! Hmm...I actually don't know if that was the reason for their mass exodus, Geeta last night said it was bc they were *tired* but I can't imagine the whole group leaving on account of tiredness...

I thought we were leaving because the guy at the bar screamed in an unpleasant uberpitch "LAST CALL! LAST CALL! LAST CALL!", though admittedly I am extrodinarily tired still - I think I'm getting a mild recurrance of my health issues, not that it stopped me from going out every night since Thursday. But yeah, was I the only one of us who heard that dude? He was hollering like a psychopath about last call.

We were supposed to actually do that karaoke tonight?! I thought it was a vague thing off in the future.

Ally, Tuesday, 22 October 2002 03:39 (twenty-two years ago)

We were supposed to actually do that karaoke tonight?! I thought it was a vague thing off in the future.

It still is a vague thing off in the future. But Paul Eater wanted to go and sing "Photograph."

Jody Beth Rosen, Tuesday, 22 October 2002 03:54 (twenty-two years ago)

We were defeated in the sign-up scrum. Couldn't get anywhere near the clipboard.

But we stuck around for a little while anyway. It does seem to be massively dominated by regulars, but the horrible annoying MC made an effort to invite newcomers to perform first.

They don't do the echoey voice treatment on the performer that I always love in (real) karaoke.

Didn't get your message, JBR, so I went up and gushed to the poor girl who sang I Fought The Law:

"That was great!"
"Thanks."
"I'm Paul."
"Hi...."
"Are you Jody Beth Rosen?"
"Am I what?"

Good fun.

Capsule review: Not bad. Probably Winnie's has an overall better entertainment/annoyance ratio, though.

Paul Eater (eater), Tuesday, 22 October 2002 16:51 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm sorry! That poor girl.

I'll make it up to you -- we'll do a duet at Winnie's.

Jody Beth Rosen, Tuesday, 22 October 2002 17:11 (twenty-two years ago)

That public karaoke mishap merely reinforces my original interpretation -- we shall conquer at village karaoke -- and be all japanese style, booths, yay! And we can pick up the telephone, and order in beer, and pizza, and other sundries, and if I get drunk enough, I'll bore everyone to tears with my SNAP rendition...

Mary (Mary), Tuesday, 22 October 2002 17:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Ugh...that is to say...SMAP...! I heart Kimutaku. Sike!

Mary (Mary), Tuesday, 22 October 2002 17:41 (twenty-two years ago)

I was hoping you meant Snap, though. I never seen anyone do Rhythm is a Dancer karaoke.

Ally, Wednesday, 23 October 2002 00:37 (twenty-two years ago)

"I love Morrissey! I want the power! It's getting, it's getting, it's getting kinda hectic!"

M Matos (M Matos), Wednesday, 23 October 2002 01:51 (twenty-two years ago)

two weeks pass...
surely there should be some more photos now? there were at least 2 cameras going round werent there?

gareth (gareth), Thursday, 7 November 2002 19:53 (twenty-two years ago)

i think they fear the wrath of photoshop.

Chris V. (Chris V), Thursday, 7 November 2002 20:06 (twenty-two years ago)

I thought Nory's was the only one, hence everyone treating me like a dork for taking pictures! (I was on vacation, that's when you're allowed to take pictures.)

nabisco (nabisco), Thursday, 7 November 2002 20:07 (twenty-two years ago)

two months pass...
where are alans pics of this fap?

gareth (gareth), Wednesday, 22 January 2003 14:01 (twenty-two years ago)

ten months pass...
perhaps he has them now

charltonlido (gareth), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 11:07 (twenty-one years ago)
