happy kids! happy kids are good. this british couple came in the store and they had a little boy named rufus! first rufus kid we've met since our rufus was born. there other kid was percy, i think? anyway, they were rambunctious kids and their parents kept shooshing them but i didn't care at all because they were so happy! i told the parents this. not only that but they had the most adorable accents and i thought that any minute they were going to find a magical doorway in the store somewhere that led to a land of hobbits and adventure. so cute.

Well it was the mid nineties and I was one of those snowboarding / taco bell eating / mountain dew drinking kind of guys and ended up getting a tribal-style sun with some big swirly things around it across my entire lower back. I was an early tramp stamp adopter, predating Google's record of the word by a good ten years.
Since I'm rarely shirtless I've never felt a pressing need to cover it up but I finally decided to get it fixed before getting anything else tattooed. The artist I'm seeing is probably in his mid 20s and just laughs and laughs whenever he looks at it, but seems to be stoked from a technical standpoint about doing a really major cover-up.

waiting out a freak midnight storm in bordeaux. it had been scorching hot all day, we went to dinner and were sitting at a terrace outside along with maybe 70 other people when lightning and thunder started advancing toward us. nobody flinched, ignoring it all even when the thunder was almost on top of our heads. finally the rain started and we all dashed for cover wherever we could find it. awnings were no help, the rain was basically going sideways. the crashing sounds of glasses and signage falling, breaking loose, were everywhere. this little room was in a restaurant in an ancient stone building just off the square with very thick walls. the owner poured out some shots of basque liqueur for everybody, on the house, and cranked the stereo. this is that moment.
