This time round there is no restrictions, no theme, no nuttin', freestylin'

• You can submit any song you like, please to send to ilxfreesty✧✧✧@gm✧✧✧.c✧✧. I'd highly suggest either an uncompressed WAV or AIFF, You can also send a high-bitrate MP3 if you'd like, I guess (like 256+). If there's a file size problem drop a note I'm sure we can sort it out somehow.
• Ideally please keep to one song per ilxor
• I am going to set the deadline of Sunday, March 2nd, giving you slightly less than two months. Yes! That whole bit was copied from the ILX compilation v4 thread but I can't see why not. It's likely to end up on soundcloud which would accept any of those formats

Okay, I'm up for this. Bear in mind I'm not very good at anything. Might use it as an excuse to try to make up one of my Maplin 'horrible screechy noise' kits (this kind of thing), though I'm a bit worried about trying to solder with a cat in the house.

I have finally got my "studio" up and running again (bought a cheap knackered imac) so it's frantic recording time soon.

I have a boring machine outside my window for the next few weeks. I have no idea if I'll be able to record. Or if I should turn in eight minutes of boring machine samples!

When the gas board replaced all the pipes on my street a few years ago, I recorded the sound of the big JCB mounted pneumatic drills and used them in a song.

Rockstar Games has optioned to make our album the soundtrack to Grand Theft Auto 7. Ken's working out the paperwork with his legal team before getting back to us.

I continue to have no idea what that means but

1) I think I'm just going to publish our song because then at least maybe some people can hear it, specifically my mom, who continues to not figure out secret soundcloud links
2) I do not actually think this generally disappointing situation is my fault since
a. our song is good
b. we turned it in like 2 weeks before the first deadline

I admire ken c's carefully-orchestrated hype campaign, but it's a risky one imo. I know at least one song has leaked already.

On the other hand I'm really looking forward to his Collaborators series of youtubes.

My track was (sort of) linked to the Winter Olympics but as we're now nearer the World Cup than the Winter Olympics, I am using this thread to ask ken to rename the track from "Franz Klammer" to "Hans Krankl".

There's another Winter Olympics in 2018

it's sad, i've already gone through the full lifecycle with my contribution: while i was making it i was obsessed and thought that perhaps it represented something -new-, then i picked apart all the little things i hate about it, then i accepted it as at least having elements that were ok and not embarrassing, and then the elements that i thought were ok got annoying and now i'm pretty sure i want no one to hear it

This was my very first song that I consciously contributed ideas to (2nd song ever tbh) and I didn't go through any of those stages but I do feel that this experience has given me a bit more of the fighting spirit. I guess that's good.

I'm already considering redoing my vocals cos since this started ive had singing lessons and I can do a better job now!

My voice has broken, balls dropped, gone through puberty and now staring senility and death in the face in the time it's taken this thing to come out

maybe it's wise to wait longer. soon these songs will be artifacts of a long forgotten age

tom d - who is hans krankl?

The track was originally called "Franz Klammer", and so tied in with the Winter Olympics, but in a fit of pique I suggested ken rename it "Hans Krankl" as the release date crept ever closer to the start of the (football) World Cup and the Winter Olympics 2014 became a distant memory. Hans Krankl being the most famous Austrian footballer of the 70s (as Klammer was the most famous Austrian downhill skier of the 70s). I wish I hadn't now as "Franz Klammer" is more appropriate and a better title!

Yeah it's a good track. How come you had it sitting around for twenty years? What was it initially?

I just made demos on a four-track in the 90s with my guitar, a second hand drum machine and a mate's bass if I could borrow it. They weren't really for anything, there wasn't ever going to be a group or a live performance or anything. That track is a reworking of something from about 1994, done in about 2000 or 2001 when I was in Italy (so without access to a bass). I think the master cassette was getting very near the end when I recorded it, which has made it sound a bit wobbly, but it's just about get-away-able-with.

I haven't done anything since 2001/02. I bought a Focusrite interface thing* a while back which came with Ableton Live Lite, with the intention of trying to start recording things again. I even bought a keyboard with drum pad things on. But there never seems to be enough time to learn how anything works or how to play it.

*clearly I know nothing about the technicalities
