I don't do it. It's time-consuming, it hurts my back, and no one is ever going to see my damn legs. Why is this still expected? Guys? Girls? I mean, underarm hair I can understand. It's itchy and annoying and can really lock in odor. But legs... My leg hair ain't ever done me wrong.

Why I don't like leg shaving:
1) It could be interpreted as buying into the myth that (nice) women don't have body hair.
2) It's time-consuming.
3) Nicks sting and bleed like a mother****er (and legs seem to be more vulnerable to nicks and cuts than any other body part that I shave, even the bikini line).

Why I shave my legs anyways:
1) It irritates (and sometimes even hurts) when wind, water or clothing pulls leg hair in directions other than in which it naturally goes.
2) Clothing over hair-free skin gives me a different (and in my opinion, pleasant) sensation.

i don't shave anything. i suppose some people do it cos having smooth legs is nice to touch. i have discovered that "after shaving it grows back thicker" thing is a myth. i don't get the underarm thing tho - body odour is an attractive smell, and it only gets offensive if you don't wash enough.

I like smooth, but not enough for it to be a preference. I guess I "expect" it, but only in the sense that it's still the norm -- maybe assume is a better word. I assume a woman shaves her legs, if I don't know otherwise. I have all the sympathy in the world for women who don't want to do it, because God knows I wouldn't want to be bothered :)

i shave my legs when i can be bothered / have the time ( son gets bored after 5 minutes watching me shower ).
it IS a pain, and a habit picked up in my younger days as a teen wanting to fit in with the image of womenhood that was ( is ) touted.
underarms yes i do that too, and on a much more regular basis. feels cleaner.
i like the moustache idea, might do a 'moko' instead though and scare the gentler people in my quiet neighbourhood.

Not mine.

I'm in two minds about the whole shaving body hair thing. I think that if it was particularly socially acceptable for boys to remove it then I'd probably be first in line. But I don't have a problem with body hair on girls, nor do I mind when it's removed. Facial hair is wildly unattractive on both sexes.

Tep, it's probably more the norm in the states, I don't know if that's where you are? it's pretty common in New Zealand but I don't think to the extent as the USA, and it's not the norm amongst people I know, it's the exception.

don't do mine legs or anywhere, used to from ages 11ish to about 19 maybe.(I'm 27 now, well almost). Can't stand the look or feel of shaved legs or underarms.

if you want to be hardcore, go for threading! it's this ancient indian technique where you take a piece of string and hold it taut, and then use it to cut the hair off really fast. i got this done once on my legs, and i was screaming for about an hour afterwards.

(it really works though)

shaving is like, k-lame in comparison. go for the ultimate pain!

Yep, I'm in the States, spectra. Of course, one reason it's the norm in my area is cause I live in the South -- when I went to a crunchy crunchy liberal arts school in Massachusetts (Hampshire College -- ultimate Frisbee, go go go), shaved was -definitely- the exception. But Hampshire was unlike the rest of the world in most respects except for the function of gravity and the price of paperbacks.

I shave my legs because I think it looks better. Also, I don't like the idea of people looking at my legs and labelling me as a feminist-lesbian-greenie-commie-weirdo (even though I am). I grow fur during winter when it's hidden because shaving is a bit time consuming and because razors, shaving cream etc. cost $$$.

I prefer the look of shaved legs on guys too. If I was a guy I would grow an evil-guy beard like The Master from Doctor Who - unless my facial hair was too sparse.

I like soft, fair underarm hair but I have yukky dark hair so I shave that off.

I recently had to shave my forearm because of an injury that required sticky bandages (ouch with fur!). I like the shaved one so much better than the unshaved one. I will not give in to the temptation though - arm shaving is going too far!

I love to shave my legs. Shaving cream smells good. I never cut myself. The key is shaving in the bathtub. And afterwards I'm silky smooth & top it all off with lotion. In the wintertime, I don't shave very often because I have this illusion that my little leg hairs keep me SO much warmer. Fortunately, I have light-colored leg hairs anyway.

If I had blond hair, I don't think I'd shave my legs--but, I am a brunette, so off it goes. Once I was messing around with my friend's NADS (hah.) and I waxed off all the hair on my left arm.. it was RAD feeling but I don't think I'll ever do it again because having arm stubble was extremely creepy.

haha, i had a carbon trek 1200 but it's long gone. the fadwhore claim may be legit BUT keep in mind i traded my original bianchi green stumpjumper for the 1200 cuz there were no mtnbk comps in SD at the time and my triathlon coach had only won the ironman oh 5 times. that said, my wet leg was by far my weakest.

Most of them really aren't that dangerous, but when a someone shows up at a group ride with aero bars you need to give them a little room. They're probably not used to bumping elbows.

Geeta's description of threading gives me THE FEAR. I do the waxing - my stepmother has started a course on this so I can get it done for no pence on me hols ect. Although I was so lazy about doing this recently that hairs grew so long I could nearly plait them. I AM THE GORILLER! ect. Now they are nice and smooth and this is good.

Stubbly shaved legs = dud to the max, btw. At least when waxed/sugared/THREADED I guess, they grow back softer and The Way God Intended.

I do suggest a stiff GIN pre-treatment though.

I shaved my legs once in my life, when I was about 14, and I still have the scars. Fortunately, my body hair is quite light and very blond, so this isn't that much of a problem. I'm glad that my feminist "principles" (heh) don't have to come into conflict with my biology. Even if it was really dark, I probably wouldn't shave them anyway, as I'm lazy.

i had a friend that used to get his (yes his) eyebrows threaded regularly.

i shave, but lazily. in the summer maybe a bit more, but it's kind of whenever i think of it. i actually find it kind of relaxing, since it's an excuse to spend more time in a nice hot shower, relaxing and grooming.

and yes, threading is REALLY painful. i get my eyebrows threaded, and i have to brace myself for it, because it HURTS SO DAMN MUCH! seriously, i have to like, bite my tounge to stop myself from crying out in pain. it doesn't even get any easier each time i go. but i think it looks neater than waxing/sugaring, and also lasts longer, which is why i put myself through the torture of it.

My Grandmother went her whole life never shaving her legs. She was very proud of this fact.

I do, however, shave my legs and under my arms. I cut myself pretty bad in junior high right on my ankle. OW! It took me quite a while to stop the bleeding. I haven't cut myself in a long time.

my friends who swim all go for the entire season without shaving (and the girls either go "i'm so liberated!" or "ew i'm so hairy") and then shave everything (well, only the guys shave their heads) for sectionals. it's actually kinda cool. especially when the guys get buzz cuts and shave patterns into their hair before shaving it totally.

one month passes...

i stopped shaving my legs six months ago.
in the beginning it was just out of laziness, and then it was out of humour, and now i think i might just not ever shave again, because aside from feeling liberated, i feel just more natural...not trying to fit in with the image of today's young woman...sexy, smooth, whorey, etc. haha just kidding....(but really?!)
i also don't really take showers that often. i rarely smell bad. i just get my hair wet and leave the house with what i slept in. oh haha i own one pair of pants, and i wear them every day and i think the longest i have gone without washing them was probably 2 and one half months.
i suppose it helps that it is winter and nobody sees my legs, but reading these comments about and from women who are happy with their hairy legs/lives encourages me. it really does. so, thank you...haha....

the hair on my legs is completely grown out but the long underwear I wear every day kind of pulls at it around the ankles; it's kind of uncomfortable at the end of the day. How do boys deal with this? Maybe my thin girly sensitive skin is to blame.

Also I have a business trip in the Bahamas coming up and am not sure if I want to shave or not. I usually shave during the summer because it feels nice. Being in a bathing suit in front of the peers in your industry is such a horrible idea.

i shaved my armpits about four months ago!! I had the same problem as Chris V and as a result the deodorant wasn't working effectively and my super caustic sweat was ruining my t-shirts so i shaved. the hair hasn't grown back fully so it's worked like a charm.

Bah - I hate to shave my legs, but I like them to be hairless. So I do it, but not very regularly, which drives my husband nuts. I don't think I ever learned to do it properly, so I do cut myself, miss spots (I'm very nearsighted, can hardly see my ankles in the shower), etc. It all comes down to me being a lazy cur.

Waxing my eyebrows was so painful, I can't CONCEIVE of it on that much surface area... I'm now in the midst of getting electrolysis on my eyebrows (they used to grow together in the middle, how dainty and attractive) - v. painful, but worth it in the long run.

There's something primitive + earthily sexy about a woman with hairy legs,pits + bikini line escaping in all directions. Not keen on too obvious facial hair, though downiness is ok. The look turns me on + in intimate setting the feel is sexy. I'm 11 and justshaved for my second time ever today (i was only just allowed to). It was really hard work but was pretty fun....until I'd finished. I was so worried that now I had to do it forever. I hated having hairy legs when all my friends have smooth, perfect legs, so i did it.

I find nothing at all wrong with eyebrow waxing. I love going and getting my eyebrows shaped because I've grown accustomed to the waxing. In fact, I've taken naps while getting my eyebrows waxed. The real problem starts when they bring in the tweezers.

I can't afford to neglect my legs or my armpits. Unfortunately, I have really thick, dark colored hair, and it is highly noticeable any time I neglect either one of them. And the hair on my thighs is very noticeable to me; maybe not so much for others, but I get rather uncomfortable looking down at them and thus try to take care of them as often as possible.

I usually use electric razors to take care of my body hair problem, but sometimes, if I have enough time or I've left it long enough, I use the depilatory creams, which I actually prefer because it leaves the surface feeling completely smooth and the stubble that does come in actually feels kinda soft.

Hm. Thanks for reminding me I need to shave again. The stubble's starting to come in.

I never shave my legs ever any more. They appear to have just given up sprouting hair though, and remain kind of baldy. I wish my armpits would do the same, they're fiddly and annoying to dehairify.

Only waxing I have ever done ever is on my eyebrows, and only because there's no real alternative. It makes my nose runny and causes me to sneeze a lot.
