Paranoid is from 2013.

I'd go for 2 On from this list, but also suspect that there'll be a few more contenders by the time the year is out.

Paranoid is from 2013.

squarely a 2014 radio song though

le goon (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 29 July 2014 19:50 (eleven years ago)

So any predictions on when Mustard reaches his saturation point? I have mixed feelings, because individually I enjoy a lot of these songs, but collectively they make for a really monotonous playlist, and they've crowded so many other sounds and ideas out of rap/R&B radio.

Evan R, Tuesday, 29 July 2014 20:07 (eleven years ago)

Like, that Jeremih single is fine, but it's so safe and lazy, and such a missed opportunity. Here's a guy who does really interesting work with a variety of producers, often getting some unexpected sounds from them, and for his lead single we get another Mustard by numbers track

Evan R, Tuesday, 29 July 2014 20:07 (eleven years ago)

i'm seeing him open for skrillex tonight

maura, Tuesday, 29 July 2014 20:24 (eleven years ago)

collectively they make for a really monotonous playlist

i disagree w/ this vehemently

variations on a theme imo

le goon (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 29 July 2014 20:36 (eleven years ago)

I see the evolution in his sound, and obviously it's a lot more varied than it was just two years ago—his keyboards have taken on an effervescence that's really wonderful—but so much of radio right now is hearing that same opening "boop boop boop boop" melody and thinking "ok, which Mustard track is this now."

yeah after all the wait for a proper Jeremih single, it's kind of anticlimactic for him to do a "Show Me" knockoff. that said, "Don't Tell 'Em" replaces every single person and musical element in "Show Me" with someone/something I like better, so it's an improvement at least.

some dude, Wednesday, 30 July 2014 05:14 (eleven years ago)

Iamsu! feat. Wiz Khalifa and Berner -- "What You 'Bout" loltrollin'

nova, Wednesday, 30 July 2014 05:31 (eleven years ago)

of those i've heard:

1. ty dolla sign ft. bob - paranoid
2. yg - left, right
3. tinashe ft. schoolboy q - 2 on
4. teefli ft 2 chainz - 24 hours
5. kid ink ft. chris brown - show me

worst: trey songz - na na (urrgh)

mustard's trick is that his productions are quite a bit faster than the sounds that were popular before he broke. gives his productions a certain momentum that prob. partially responsible for radio/club dominance. i think there's a lot more room for him & others to play around with the formula

out here like a flopson (tpp), Wednesday, 30 July 2014 07:26 (eleven years ago)

'dont tell em' is way more forced than 'show me' imo, inferior record

the 'friday night' to 'show me''s 'can't stop won't stop'

rap steve gadd (D-40), Wednesday, 30 July 2014 09:37 (eleven years ago)

The obvious answer that somehow no one is mentioned is T-Pain's "Up Down" which is >>>>>> everything in this list

rap steve gadd (D-40), Wednesday, 30 July 2014 09:37 (eleven years ago)

also disagree that this sound is monotonous, it's just a tempo and groove, no more 'monotonous' than reggaeton or w/e

I... Agree with deej

go ahead. make vid where u rap about this new TMNT movie. (forksclovetofu), Wednesday, 30 July 2014 13:19 (eleven years ago)

"don't tell em" is inferior to "show me" simply because the robin s sample is >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

that said, i like "don't tell em," it's a nice jam and considering all of the possible templates of songs that could've facilitated jeremih actually getting his album out i think this one is pretty digestible

le goon (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 30 July 2014 13:53 (eleven years ago)

The sample is kinda indefensible.

MikoMcha, Wednesday, 30 July 2014 13:58 (eleven years ago)

you know this song didn't make an impression on me the first time and i never listened to it again but it sounds kinda dope to me now

the sample is genius, you're insane

le goon (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 30 July 2014 14:03 (eleven years ago)

I guess it shouldn't be too surprising that Jeremih's first big single with Diddy as his manager would feature an interpolation of a way-overplayed megahit. But when he partnered with Diddy I hoped he was getting Dirty Money Diddy, not late-'90s lazy-sample Diddy

Evan R, Wednesday, 30 July 2014 14:10 (eleven years ago)

my favorites

1. paranoid
2. 2 on (my dream version of this is drake switched out for schoolboy q but w/ his verse cut down to 16 bars, alas...)
3. 24 hours
4. left right (this sounds incredible and punishing on really good speakers)
5. show me

i don't dislike any of these songs and i think this is one of the best runs for contemporary rap/r&b in a while (not for one producer, though that also, but just for the genre in general). some of them are more forgettable than others obviously but i really love this sound.

i've even come around on some of the ones i didn't particularly like at first... "na na" has really grown on me

le goon (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 30 July 2014 14:11 (eleven years ago)

"vato" is an obvious rip off of "my nigga" but i really liked that song, was kinda disappointed when they immediately dropped it

le goon (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 30 July 2014 14:12 (eleven years ago)

Wait, my bad. I meant the indefensible Snap lyrics on the Jeremih track.

Although I'm sure some ILX0rs are into them as well.

MikoMcha, Wednesday, 30 July 2014 14:15 (eleven years ago)

I'm fine with sonically pillaging Eurobeat, but lyrically? I dunno...

MikoMcha, Wednesday, 30 July 2014 14:18 (eleven years ago)

oh yeah the "rhythm is a dancer" interpolation is whatever... i really like singing it but it's more functional than anything. i think they get away with it but barely.

le goon (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 30 July 2014 14:20 (eleven years ago)

agree w/ Miko it's just corny

rap steve gadd (D-40), Wednesday, 30 July 2014 17:07 (eleven years ago)

Huh, hadn't heard Down on Me. That song is very very good. Kinda the next step of dynamic switching, going into this overdriven frenzy. Nice new trick. Might vote for it, but then again, left right, paranoid, etc.

Frederik B, Wednesday, 30 July 2014 17:16 (eleven years ago)

4. left right (this sounds incredible and punishing on really good speakers)

YES! The first time I played it out in a club both me and my dj partner were like o________o

The Reverend, Wednesday, 30 July 2014 17:48 (eleven years ago)

yeah i thought it was a total dud of a track until i went to hear the album at a listening thing at def jam on their $90 million soundsystem and was blown away

le goon (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 30 July 2014 18:08 (eleven years ago)

I think I'm the only person who's not really all that impressed with "2 On", production-wise. It's Tinashe and Q who elevate the track IMO.

Herbie Handcock (Murgatroid), Wednesday, 30 July 2014 18:13 (eleven years ago)

Ugh, I hate that Q verse. It's like listening to a guy sitting on a toilet barking orders to his girlfriend to make him a sandwich. Really pushy and gross

Evan R, Wednesday, 30 July 2014 18:18 (eleven years ago)

(great song otherwise though obviously)

Evan R, Wednesday, 30 July 2014 18:20 (eleven years ago)

The transition from I Just Wanna Party to Left, Right on My Krazy Life is epic.

voodoo chili, Wednesday, 30 July 2014 18:26 (eleven years ago)

schoolboy q shouldn't be rapping on R&B songs

le goon (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 30 July 2014 18:34 (eleven years ago)

between the beat & tinashe's vocals there's a real smoothness to "2 on" and i could see maybe how schoolboy q's gruffness was seen as a nice counterpoint to that but i just find it jarring and garish and think drake approaches the song much better

le goon (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 30 July 2014 18:35 (eleven years ago)

ugh drake singing the "2 on" chorus is nails on chalkboard shit

some dude, Wednesday, 30 July 2014 18:40 (eleven years ago)

I haven't heard the Drake version, but I'm cool with Q on it (it's my second favorite on this list) and I can't see how Drake Draking all over it would improve it.

The Reverend, Wednesday, 30 July 2014 20:38 (eleven years ago)

such a grating awful song

nova, Thursday, 31 July 2014 05:16 (eleven years ago)

I almost wish bars/clubs I go to'd just play old-school LA rap at this point, Mustard tracks sound better on blown-out speakers like everything but still can't mask the weak aspects of it

gotta be a better club-oriented producer who can take dude's spot

nova, Thursday, 31 July 2014 05:19 (eleven years ago)

Up Down is excellent, especially the remix (BOOSIE B), but the bass on Left, Right is too earth-shattering for me to not vote for it.

voodoo chili, Thursday, 31 July 2014 13:48 (eleven years ago)

"Up Down" is great, yeah, love the slightly spectral melody in the background, there's a real stateliness to the whole thing.

Tim F, Thursday, 31 July 2014 20:14 (eleven years ago)

I don't actually want bars to only play LA rap I've just been on that kick lately, just Iamsu's production crew is more my speed, mostly cuz their drums aren't weaksauce

nova, Saturday, 2 August 2014 06:02 (eleven years ago)

Mustard's drums are soooooooooooo not weaksauce, he just uses them sparingly.

The Reverend, Saturday, 2 August 2014 06:28 (eleven years ago)

they're super-mild Taco Bell sauce no lie

nova, Saturday, 2 August 2014 07:47 (eleven years ago)

i think there's definitely a case to be made that P-Lo is a better producer than Mustard, or would be if he got the same kind of opportunities. Yo Gotti's "Act Right" >>>>> pretty much every Mustard production.

some dude, Saturday, 2 August 2014 11:03 (eleven years ago)

Loads of these are great but Left Right is the only one that feels as if it's pulling you up and hitting you in the face. On a different day I might have voted for 2 On but that's trumped by the irrepressible greatness of the DJ Q remix.

In general I like Mustard more than the vocalists he works with, I don't want or need to hear 2 Chainz or Ty Dolla Sign on anything these days but I lap these up when he's working with people I actually give a shit about.

Matt DC, Saturday, 2 August 2014 11:34 (eleven years ago)

yeah he's not working with a whole lot of world class talent, but the chemistry he has with YG and some other people definitely elevates what they're doing together.

i know this statement won't fly on ILM very well but imo Mustard R&B mostly sucks the same way Lil Jon R&B mostly sucked. melodic vocals mostly don't work on his stuff, and even when they do it's often Ty Dolla Sign being a scumbag or something else that makes the song insufferable to me.

some dude, Saturday, 2 August 2014 11:41 (eleven years ago)

i think there's definitely a case to be made that P-Lo is a better producer than Mustard, or would be if he got the same kind of opportunities. Yo Gotti's "Act Right" >>>>> pretty much every Mustard production.

+ "Only That Real" and "What You 'Bout" though that one he produced with Su

It's a more vibey laid-back sound but a lot less skeletal than Mustard's beats imo and I dig that

sidenote I was surprised at how dope Sage the Gemini's verse on "Only That Real" is since I don't fuck with his music, even though he's got the same producers contributing and all that

nova, Saturday, 2 August 2014 22:20 (eleven years ago)

The "Ty Dolla sign is a scumbag" thing feels way over the top to me

le goon (J0rdan S.), Monday, 4 August 2014 04:00 (eleven years ago)

i mean "or nah"... he wrote "loyal" ... he has a track record

the first beach house EP has IRL voicemails of him being a fucking dickhead to women

but i also think it's an arbitrary distinction to single him out. the opposing sides of this argument also have opposing opinions on how talented he is.

when i interviewed him asked him if women ever tell him that he comes off like an asshole on his songs and he gave me a "pshhhhh" answer like i asked him the stupidest question in the world

le goon (J0rdan S.), Monday, 4 August 2014 04:05 (eleven years ago)

nah i'm kidding. I do find both of their lyrical approaches problematic though, just in different ways

nova, Monday, 4 August 2014 04:11 (eleven years ago)

mostly I just don't think Drake has that much insight into things & it's mainly like ok dude, you're wallowing in your relationship troubles, we been there but i'm honestly not that interested & after a point it's just self-indulgent

nova, Monday, 4 August 2014 04:13 (eleven years ago)

ty has no pretense really. he's openly the asshole bad boy that girls like. drake is also the asshole bad boy but he wraps it up in tenderness & introspection that i think he thinks is harder to see thru than it really is. you could argue that the latter is more manipulative and perhaps maybe worse.

yeah otm. i LOVE mustard beats and am so thankful for him speeding up the tempo but aside from yg, he works with a whole bunch of people i don't care about that much - kinda feel that the current mustardwave is a missed opportunity in terms of who i'd love to be getting on his beats. this list should be 100% amazing, i shouldn't have to be cherrypicking dj mustard radio hits when he's at his peak! thank christ for the yg album for giving me enough of an extended fix. i actually feel like i'd like to hear more mustard r&b productions, obv not anyone with a big voice but natasha mosley sounds awesome on the yg album ("459" is the secret best track on it!) and he saved tinashe (for now) from corny hemsworth mediocrity. at the risk of being very much in character, he's so obviously the producer CIARA has been waiting for.

anyway

1. 2 on
2. left right
3. up down
4. vato

sorta sad that those are the only ones i 100% love. "who do you love" is aight but pretty mid-to-low table on the yg album. never really clicked with "paranoid", mostly because the lyrics just make me want to slap ty. "24 hours" beat is awesome but outstrips the vocalists embarrassingly. "no mediocre" is so frustrating, incredible beat and catchy hook but tip is so gross on it! "don't tell em" is uncharacteristically clumsy with the corny sample and v ill-fitting for jeremih (though i'd rather he does this than work with shlohmo ever again). "or nah" is so horrendously misogynist that i am happy calling anyone who reps for the og over the lil mo version a misogynist as well. i mean the vocals and message are so foregrounded that how can you even tune them out. fuck ty dolla $ign for that, seriously. similarly, i'm not hurrying to check out a song called "main chick" featuring chris brown.

what other examples of fake-mustard are there besides "loyal" and "fancy"? (it's sad that both are better than half this list.) (i refer to the female remixes of "loyal" obviously, and so should you)

lex pretend, Friday, 8 August 2014 08:01 (eleven years ago)

Agree with almost everything here and above re: the grossness and mediocrity of said vocalists. Typical response from my female friends on hearing a Mustard-produced track - "wow, this guy's really charming."

what other examples of fake-mustard are there besides "loyal" and "fancy"? (it's sad that both are better than half this list.) (i refer to the female remixes of "loyal" obviously, and so should you)

5. fancy

lex pretend, Friday, 8 August 2014 09:35 (eleven years ago)

also i guess we should anticipate the mustard album out next week here? vocalist roster is neither surprising nor particularly exciting, and where is "vato"????

1. Low Low Feat. Nipsey Hussle, TeeCee and RJ
2. Ghetto Tales Feat. Jay 305 and TeeCee
3. Throw Your Hood Up Feat. Dom Kennedy, Royce and RJ
4. No Reason Feat. YG, Jeezy, Nipsey Hussle, and RJ
5. Giuseppee Feat. 2 Chainz and Jeezy and Yo Gotti
6. Face Down Feat. Lil Wayne, Big Sean, YG and Boosie Badazz
7. Down On Me Feat. 2Chainz and Ty Dolla $ign
8. Can’t Tell Me Shit Feat. IamSu! and AKAFrank
9. Tinashe Checks In (Interlude)
10. 4 Digits Feat. Fabolous and Eric Bellinger
11. Ty Dolla $ign Checks In (Interlude)
12. Deep Feat. Rick Ross, Wiz Khalifa, TeeFlii

this always strikes me as a stretch. it's not a horrendously misogynist outlier by any stretch, but generally speaking if I were to hear "so are we going to __________ or not" I would take it as pressuring at best and openly threatening at worst. like, in what possible scenario can you say "or not" and have the response not be "well fuck you bitch"?

katherine, Saturday, 9 August 2014 00:35 (eleven years ago)

agreed. i hope i didn't come across like i was trying to absolve the song or him of misogyny that's frankly rather apparent to me, because the line does come across as rather threatening when i hear it. however i don't want to tell women who like it that what they hear in the song, if it differs from what i hear in it, is wrong, nor do i think it's far different from the sexism i am hearing from male-performed songs all over the radio dial recently. and i do find it interesting that it's mostly men identifying it as a categorically unacceptable Sexist Outlier. (maybe if more women heard it [urban radio probably caters less to them lately], that wouldn't be the case?)

let's be real, the k. michelle/keyshia cole/da brat/mila j/lil mo version of "loyal" is necessary and better

i liked that my radio station actually mixed part of the k michelle version into chris brown's

dyl, Saturday, 9 August 2014 14:10 (eleven years ago)

i'd definitely rather hear the remixes but this is pretty much a thread about hit songs and their beats so the distinction is pretty pointless to fret over

some dude, Saturday, 9 August 2014 14:12 (eleven years ago)

does anyone know a good bmore/jersey club remix of "loyal"

anyway the east coast version is one of my fav songs of the year

wayne/french verses are both toilet water

some dude, Sunday, 10 August 2014 01:18 (eleven years ago)

i actually like some of lyrics in wayne's verse... french's is kind of morally indefensible but he sounds very good on the beat imo. just fun to vibe to.

really it's just an incredibly good production

le goon (J0rdan S.), Sunday, 10 August 2014 01:20 (eleven years ago)

i had a few good months where i'd avoid "Loyal" studiously enough that even when it got stuck in my head it would quickly morph into Ray J's "Sexy Can I," a better song by a lesser slimeball

some dude, Sunday, 10 August 2014 01:21 (eleven years ago)

i'm in interested to see how trey songz/nicki "touchin lovin" does as a single. it's maybe the first obvious "loyal" rip off right down to the biggie interpolation but it's a pretty dope song

le goon (J0rdan S.), Sunday, 10 August 2014 01:23 (eleven years ago)

i dunno it seems like "Foreign" is getting the push now and that one is just being forgotten.

that Ma$e single was def the first obvious "Loyal" ripoff.

actually I like Too Short's verse on that version fine too

nova, Monday, 11 August 2014 03:42 (eleven years ago)

i've never even heard his verse. which is funny he's on the song's official chart entry and Billboard made a big deal of "Loyal" being Too $hort's first top 10 hit when that version has so little to do with its success.

billboard's article about 10 summers mentions some of his upcoming productions (not sure what was known already and what wasn't):

Still to come is a track he produced on Jeremih's next album that suggests something that could have been on Bjork's 2001 album, Vespertine. Another recent song that he cut for Rihanna's upcoming album, rumored for a fourth-quarter release, is "like nothing you've ever heard," teases Mustard.

Also in the pipeline are cuts for Usher, Kanye West and Lil Wayne's respective albums, as the producer remains focused on the next big beat.

I actually stop listening after the Tinashe interlude. Good album but most of the MCs here feel like they're mainly there to showcase the beats, which I suppose is the way it should be on an album like this, but I only really feel the electricity when YG turns up.

I'm struggling to work out why he isn't better at melodic R&B when you consider how many of his hooks are lifted from house music.

thanks & yeah something like "up!" had to have that remix with 50 cent to crossover into non-west coast radio literally like a year after it was hitting in the bay. then you look at sage having two songs go top 40 or whatever, something definitely shifted.

le goon (J0rdan S.), Saturday, 30 August 2014 15:03 (ten years ago)

the 50 cent verse seemed kind of incidental to that song's success, especially considering that it's one of only like two hits 50 cent has been on in the last five years

Mustard definitely needed non-west coast rappers on his beats (2 Chainz, Jeezy, etc.) to get to where he is while the west was still gaining steam though, yeah.

rap steve gadd (D-40), Saturday, 30 August 2014 15:12 (ten years ago)

i don't think the sound itself was a liability. even as homogenized as rap radio gets, there's always room for outliers and beats by unknown producers. when "Rack City" came out there wasn't much like it on the radio but it still sounded like a hit and didn't get any resistance for standing out.

this is the entire point! "function" was not getting east coast radio spins

le goon (J0rdan S.), Saturday, 30 August 2014 20:39 (ten years ago)

yeah the "may've had a little to do with it" was joking/purposeful understatement, my bad i know doesn't always translate well online. I actually did wonder if I was exclusively a California thing tho, like if it got a certain amount of spins elsewhere. Feel like a similar thing may be happening with Iamsu "Only That Real" right now but not sure.

much as i dislike Mustard/fun I do like "Function" and "Like Whaaat" a bunch tho so there's def. a way to do that general style that i'm into. also for some reason the way they censor the cuss words on the radio versions of both sounds really cool on those kinds of beats

Mustard definitely needed non-west coast rappers on his beats (2 Chainz, Jeezy, etc.) to get to where he is while the west was still gaining steam though, yeah.
--some dude

the flip of this tho is that it's not like jeezy was a radio presence by the time of "RIP" (let alone "my nigga") and 2 chainz's only sizable solo hit was a drake hook. so you could argue that he did as much for them tho it really did feel like a true tandem sorta thing

le goon (J0rdan S.), Saturday, 30 August 2014 21:35 (ten years ago)

the west has def struggled for some good star rappers of late, outside of kendrick

rap steve gadd (D-40), Saturday, 30 August 2014 22:34 (ten years ago)

"Function" got some radio play in Seattle but it felt like more of a club hit than a airplay hit.

The Reverend, Saturday, 30 August 2014 22:40 (ten years ago)

function has 3.6 mill spotify plays (more than twice the plays of e-40's next most popular song on the service) and 12 million youtube plays spread out over three "official" videos for original and remix

the other song about butts in the top 5 (forksclovetofu), Saturday, 30 August 2014 23:47 (ten years ago)

i think it's prob e-40's biggest hit since tell me when 2 go / u and dat in '06

the other song about butts in the top 5 (forksclovetofu), Saturday, 30 August 2014 23:49 (ten years ago)

oh it absolutely is, but it's not like it has any viable competition

some dude, Sunday, 31 August 2014 01:22 (ten years ago)

I woulda thought the one with chris brown and ti would have done the trick, tho not so much to my taste

the other song about butts in the top 5 (forksclovetofu), Sunday, 31 August 2014 05:17 (ten years ago)

Who knew the least-talented up-and-comer on "Function" would have the biggest career two years later

ok Problem I don't really know I just love his second verse on "Like Whaaat"

nova, Tuesday, 2 September 2014 00:26 (ten years ago)

the crazy thing about "Function" is that it had 3 guys on it that i was (and probably most non-west coast people were) only hearing for the first or second time on that song and they've all thrived since then

some dude, Tuesday, 2 September 2014 00:31 (ten years ago)

feels so weird the first place I heard problem was on Blaqkout

The Reverend, Tuesday, 2 September 2014 06:18 (ten years ago)

ohhh yeah damn

some dude, Tuesday, 2 September 2014 11:24 (ten years ago)

"24 hours" hit the hot 100 this week

le goon (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 4 September 2014 17:03 (ten years ago)

that is one slow climb

rap steve gadd (D-40), Thursday, 4 September 2014 17:23 (ten years ago)

yeah no shit

le goon (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 4 September 2014 17:28 (ten years ago)

objectively speaking the last thing the world needed was jamie foxx singing over a mustard beat but this song is pretty hot

tity's first verse is a masterpiece as well

http://www.missinfo.tv/index.php/jamie-foxx-party-aint-a-party-feat-2-chainz

le goon (J0rdan S.), Saturday, 13 September 2014 17:54 (ten years ago)

don't ask me what they're doing with polow da don's drop on that song

le goon (J0rdan S.), Saturday, 13 September 2014 17:58 (ten years ago)

lmao there's three different producer drops in the first nine seconds of this song

le goon (J0rdan S.), Saturday, 13 September 2014 18:10 (ten years ago)

"Don't Tell 'Em" sounds like it was conceived and recorded in like five minutes but I love it.

mustard redeeming himself for all the bro stuff

lex pretend, Tuesday, 9 December 2014 17:57 (ten years ago)

"it's been a while" covers it honestly, i think on some level i was expecting her to sound like she did in "tattoo" and "battlefield" etc lol

Oh man, Post to Be is amazing! Thanks!

Frederik B, Saturday, 4 April 2015 01:24 (ten years ago)

Gah, I've been listening to this song on repeat for the last two hours. Goddammit, there went my weekend.

you're chick come close to me
ain't coming home when she post to be
dum dum dum dum post to be
dumdumdum booty like groceries!

Frederik B, Saturday, 4 April 2015 02:36 (ten years ago)

"post to be" is incredible

J0rdan S., Saturday, 4 April 2015 05:20 (ten years ago)

His beats are creeping towards 120

The Reverend, Saturday, 4 April 2015 09:05 (ten years ago)

rolling eat the booty like groceries 2016 thread bookmarked.

longneck, Saturday, 4 April 2015 09:13 (ten years ago)

I was def too excited, couldn't sleep, screwed up my weekend plans. But it's a great song, and what excites me most, is that Mustard can still deliver these jams so regularly, and actually vary his sound. Is this the first time his trademark 'hey, hey, hey, hey' has become 'ah, ah, ah, ah'?

Frederik B, Saturday, 4 April 2015 12:08 (ten years ago)

lol no one cared about this song when it dropped last year

it's aight but it's no "figure 8"

lex pretend, Saturday, 4 April 2015 13:43 (ten years ago)

Figure 8 is brilliant. Is there a Chris Brown-less version of Post To Be lurking around anywhere?

Matt DC, Saturday, 4 April 2015 13:52 (ten years ago)

oh there was a lot of chatter about "groceries!" and how the song was gonna be a hit last year. I'm just surprised it actually eventually happened.

some stupid push back (some dude), Saturday, 4 April 2015 14:58 (ten years ago)

initially it felt like mustard trying too hard to catch up to nic nac but it's just a great song

J0rdan S., Saturday, 4 April 2015 16:13 (ten years ago)

hate to be a party pooper (*raises eyebrows, winks*) but "eat the booty like groceries" is nonsensical

k3vin k., Saturday, 4 April 2015 17:20 (ten years ago)

you don't eat groceries. you buy groceries

k3vin k., Saturday, 4 April 2015 17:23 (ten years ago)

Wow pedants are the worst

, Saturday, 4 April 2015 17:50 (ten years ago)

i dunno bro, i both buy and eat groceries

not booty though, no thanks

deej loaf (D-40), Saturday, 4 April 2015 18:41 (ten years ago)

fine go ahead and don't eat your groceries seems pretty wasteful tho

j., Saturday, 4 April 2015 18:44 (ten years ago)

seems a waste to buy booty and not eat it too

i'm sure i'm missing some but i tried to pull together all the mustard singles from rack city forward https://open.spotify.com/user/nminichino/playlist/4LJtvEIPgYSyOARnrCmauc

rn i'm more interested in fake mustard but that may be down to how much i have grown to love "somebody" (may as well replace "natalielarose" with "mustardonthebeat" at the beginning)

this chump registered with his real name → (Nick Minichino), Wednesday, 1 July 2015 00:28 (ten years ago)

one great detail on "post to be" is when and how often jhené aiko insists "i'll make him do it"

this chump registered with his real name → (Nick Minichino), Wednesday, 1 July 2015 00:31 (ten years ago)

may as well replace "natalielarose" with "mustardonthebeat" at the beginning

this is the best part of that song

dyl, Wednesday, 1 July 2015 02:36 (ten years ago)

in the club like wuhh going duh like wuhh etc is the best part imo, but that bit's good too
