whats your favourite 1950s jazz album?

My favourite jazz era is 1960s so I'll give you an answer in there. Firstly to discount Miles as I'm not a fan per se. tl;dr answer would probably be Blues & Roots. At least it's probably my most played. This earth era is all about trane and basically every trane album in this decade is spiritual experience and an apex of human art history. my opinions sway on the best releases but I'll say I think there are several better than Blue Train. Personal favourite of Coltrane is Africa/Brass lp and even better if you look up the original recordings. Meditations era is like a late era Miro on my wall, chastened genius aerified but I maybe don't like looking at it every day.

And Nina's Pastel Blues goes somewhere near the top too.

went to central london on the weekend, awful, gentrified, commercial, corporate, achingly emptily cool desperations, selfie sticks, $15 organic single organic cookies, no cafes, zero independants, zero young locals, 100% tourists and rich families. You've got this street Carnaby Street famous in the past for hippie culture and swinging 60s and mods and independent boutiques and you get there and it's fucking filled with Puma and Adidas stores, wtf? They play up it's heritage and put that shit all along it. Soulless. Pay £10 for a tube day pass, get onto the most grotty disgustingly unclean underground trains in teh world in my experience. Had to walk around South Kensington for a bit, just a pile of rich shit and yuppies and dead eyed tourists how can anyone stay sane there?

Cities I generally find disgusting depressing places, but I have never been more depressed and dispossessed and lacking in confidence in humanity by a City than last weekend in London.

Yes, they are! So well in fact that I opened a second bar this year and I'm going for a third next year, just looking for the right location.

besides the common shots, we had 10 specials shots that you guys helped me name.... I had to cut a couple to reduce time/stock. Unfortunately I had to let go 'Barracuda' and 'Tago Mago' which were my favorite in terms of name but the ones that required more time to be made and they weren't that popular.

I also get to play my music on both bars (the first is a mixed bag of everything I like without paying attention to genre, some people
might hate it for trendy (the few big mainstream artists I have in that playlist are usually in deep
cuts that rockists always complain about) the second is mainly focused on soul/jazz/blues/funk/rockabilly but we have house djs now and then and an awesome blues/rock band on weekends)

At first few people understood what I was going for with the second bar and thought it lacked the 'boho hipstery" vibe of my first bar... I think they were expecting it to be more focused on rock music when I was thinking more about a place where I can chill while listening to soul music. The place looks gorgeous and cozy so eventually we found an audience and we're now packed in both venues.

The third place will be brazilian inspired. Tropicalia and filled with colors and flowers and all those things.

Rockists that come expecting to hear Freebird and all those classic rock songs which I don't intend to listen to for the 2000th time in my life seem dissapointed but we compensate with lots of beautiful women in my bars. Our audience in both is mainly women (which makes it miles better for me, I'd hate to be the only girl at an all dude's bar rocking to ac/dc) and I dont know if it works the same in the US/UK but if the ladies come to your bar the men will follow.

I mean dissapointed because as I mentioned earlier they'll approach me asking for something like Red Hot Chili Peppers and then come back after I played something like Walkabout because they want a popular one but I have none.

Nah, it's very safe to say that I don't have an additional (or "sock") account here. If I recall, registering for this account was enough of a pain in the arse. I don't know what it's like to register a new account now, but when I registered for this one I remember it taking a couple of attempts.

Actually, I remember when I first started posting here one or two people actually thought I was the "sock" account of an established poster, which I found a bit weird. I don't see the reason why someone would want a "sock" account beyond the obvious negative/deceptive/prickish reasons, really, and as I've said on a prior occasion, I signed up to this forum to talk about music and nothing more than that, really. I have no interest in getting involved in the forum beyond that. It must be noted that I didn't think an awful lot of Raccoon Tanuki or his/her posts on the occasions I came across them.

It's just a bit of a surprise when I'm browsing through a thread and I notice posts and think "hang on, those look similar to posts that I've made in the past", and they turn out to actually be posts that I've made in the past, just copied from their original threads (we're talking years back here) and taken out of context and re-posted word-for-word by folks who are often found copy and pasting shit into threads like "no way sna", "zing!" etc. It's more than a bit fucking weird, to be honest. On the plus side, I guess it's good to know that I have a good memory for things that I've posted in this past and can recognise my own posting style even if I haven't seen those posts for years.

As I've said before, I enjoy discussing music here and find there to be some incredibly knowledgeable people here, but I've observed there's also a negative/snarky undercurrent to ILX which is less than appealing and I guess in a way I'm glad I'm nowhere near as heavily involved in ILX as some others are.

How does this relate to your above post at all?
