I didn't really get into it on first listen (the front bottoms). I'll give it another go. I loved the first couple. This one seemed less intimate, I guess. I'll listen to it again.

I mean, they are the Yuck of 2016, but that is OK w/ me.

A friend of mine loves that record and pitched it to me sounding a lot like early Jimmy Eat World, but I don't hear it. Unless "early-Jimmy Eat World" is just code for 90s emo, and even as early as Static Prevails, Jimmy already sounded more ornate than most of those bands.

I should probably listen to Jimmy Eat World at some point. I only know The Middle and Lucky Denver Mint.

clarity, bleed american, and futures are basically ur-texts for almost anything that appears in this thread

i finally got around to the brightr album and i really like it!

Yeah, the Brightr album has remained a very nice listen for me. And it turns out the guy is from my hometown! I messaged him and he was very nice. There's a gig coming up this month that I'll likely go and see.

Looking forward to that FoT album though I only ever listened to the first really. I was always amazed that someone could sing and play guitar along such detached lines..

the new Pup is streaming at NPR and I have to say the prospect of them + Jeff Rosenstock at an all-ages show later this week has me pretty fucking stoked

i don't like pup at all musically but live they are incredible

Hotelier were great - felt lucky to catch them at this stage - but their openers. Loone and Todd Slant, were almost as good.

So many big releases recently! Hotelier/Tiny Moving Parts/Pup/Into It. Over It...all excellent.

I tried the Thrice album, but haven't been able to get behind them since Vheissu. I much prefer when the emphasis is post-hardcore.

Not sure if this is really the right place for this, but The World is a Beautiful Place... released a great two-track single ('Long Live Happy Birthday') that's much darker than their previous album. 'Katamari Duquette' is like a condensed Silver Mt Zion song.

the last ttng record was unfortunately kinda the perfect example of "this is impressive, but the songs aren't really there." i still liked it and i'm looking forward to the new one

I'd never heard them before, but I'm so impressed. They're kind of like an understated Youthmovies, but more midwest. (But from Oxford). Bliss Quest and Destroy the Tabernacle! are standouts for me from the album.

If you took the 5 or 6 best songs from this year's and last year's Dear Hunter albums you'd have a fine proggy pop-emo album, alas restraint and concision are categorically not This Guy's Thing. Anyway, the new one has a better hit:miss ratio than last year's due to having fewer corny vaudevillian story-advancing numbers

Listening to the end really pays off. It closes with a fantastic medley of short songs.

I can already see myself memorizing all of the lyrics on this.

It's only about 25 minutes long, but it's lovely! They really upped their game this year.

Also here to echo what you're all saying about the new Into It. Over It. They nail their sentimental atmospheres in every song. None of it is filler.

anyway, there's something kind of cool when you hear a song and you know they just wrote the song that will close their sets for as long as they are a band

don't sleep on the BASEMENT album it is nothing you haven't heard before but it is delicious
