until "Rollin", which is pretty cool and DOES have a cool summer vibe (something g-funkish too). I'm not sure it's a great SONG, though.

Listen to Slide and Heatstroke by Calvin Harris. You might like them better and it seems he's doing a full album of g-funk inspired jams.

Afaik it's huge in spotify which seems to be the easiest global metric to use nowadays.

On the US charts it peaked in 8. I'm starting to hear it in Mexico... I don't think it will have the same impact over here as One Dance did but I like it better. One Dance had that syncopated reggaeton/dancehall beat which latin audiences go crazy for which explains its success over here... Passionfruit's backing track is more like lush house and it's overall a more subtle song.

hum. I like both but I might prefer One Dance as a summer jam (at a party). Passionfruit has something more subtle indeed (and sad, I might add), a bit like Hold On. More of an after party vibe !

so these Calvin Harris singles are pretty strong.
I find "Heatstroke" is the catchiest but "Slide" and "Rollin" have a great groove.
It's quite impressive to release 3 singles of that level prior to the album.

Is Despacito one of the first reggaeton songs you've heard?

El perdon was also a very popular reggaeton song last year featuring Enrique Iglesias (400M plays in spotify). It doesn't sound like despacito at all, at least for me... it's more that mostly all reggaeton sounds similar because it's very limited in what it can do with its beat and producers are very lazy to do something creative with it.

Listen to the top songs by Maluma or Zion & Lennox or J Balvin and you'll probably think they also sound like Despacito.

That's kind of my problem with reggaeton. Does wonders for a latin party but it's generic to the point where every new reggaeton hit replaced the last one.
