She's well-liked round these parts iirc? Surprising to find there's not already a thread.

― Ⓓⓡ. (Johnny Fever), Saturday, 19 August 2017 13:50 (eight years ago)
I feel like they've spent a lot of money and time building her up as a popstar and New Rules being a chart-topper is a reward for length of service, it's good but it's far from the best thing with her name on it. I really like the album but it loses points for relegating Last Dance to bonus track status.

Yeah I've gone back to this a lot more than I expected I would - so much personality and presence in her voice. Compared to something like the utterly bland Zara Larsson album, it's a model of what pop can actually be with a bit of ambition and focus

"lost in your light" has been a stalwart on my jogging playlists this year. the way she sings "i wanna stay riiiiiiiiiiight here all night baby" at the beginning of the final chorus is such a moment

Really glad I clicked on this thread. It has made me revisit an album which I dismissed when I first heard it back in June. I must have watched the Lost In Your Light video 20 times in the last 24 hours. It could well end up being my song of the year. I'm now just taking it in turns to play this album and the new Miguel.

As a regular American Top 40 listener it’s very refreshing to have some played-straight, classy, four-on-the-floor house music back on the radio. The first time it came on I briefly thought I’d tuned the station to WBLS by mistake. Don’t know that Dua Lipa feels particularly vital to the success of the record, but by the same measure she acquits herself well.

^I love this, though I can't shake the suspicion that the pitch-shifted bit in the chorus was an attempt to make Dua's voice sound as much like Cher's as possible after Cher declined an invitation to guest on the track

"This was my favourite pop star mag cover for some time, I mean I know it's GQ and everything but the combination of her and 'A billion people can't be wrong' with 'Could Jacob Rees-Mogg get any worse?' is pretty hard to top"
I'm really bothered by the way that the question mark at the end of that line pushes past the right border of the text. It looks wrong.
For all those people reading this in 2027, when the image is gone, there was originally a picture of the front cover of the British edition of GQ magazine, May 2018. All of the headlines on the right were right-aligned to a rigid border but the question mark in the last headline, "Could Jacob Rees-Mogg get any worse?", extended over the edge of the border, and in 2019 it bothered me.
In 2027 you will walk through a miniature recreation of London and see a miniature version of yourself.

I was on the fence with this song as well, but I’ve fallen for it now, a process set in motion by ufo posting the Fallon performance. All the parts people have identified as great (pre-chorus, chorus, the way the verse starts) actually felt like clunkers to me at some point. That disco break after the second chorus is the real highlight though.

none of these singles have been amazing (though the live performances of "don't start now" have been quite great) but they're all quite solid and very well produced so if that keeps up for the whole album i expect it'll be pretty good
― ufo, Friday, 31 January 2020 00:47 (five years ago)
if you basically mean Xenomania, I agree, and it kind of makes sense in that that whole sound was itself such a diverse blender of past and contemporary signifiers that it doesn’t feel as tied to a particular time or context in the way that, say, a Neptunes-style production would.
This seems counter-intuitive in that the ~songs themselves~ from that period feel very specific to that era and really did not survive beyond the era within broader popular consciousness, but perversely that means Dua Lipa’s efforts are more likely to be accepted on their own terms rather than tagged as, I dunno, a tribute to the third Sugababes album or something.
― Tim F, Friday, 31 January 2020 00:51 (five years ago)
“Physical” more Girls Aloud of course.
― Tim F, Friday, 31 January 2020 00:52 (five years ago)
xenomania in part certainly, but i was thinking more kylie, sophie ellis-bextor etc. that sort of disco-with-modern-production sound
― ufo, Friday, 31 January 2020 00:55 (five years ago)
i get more of a The Fame Monster vibe from "Physical" more than Xenomania - there's a raggedness to the vocal performance that distinguishes it from something like GA. "Don't Start Now" on the other hand is a lot more pointed and precise, so I hear SAB etc there for sure

not really feeling "physical" so far (tho for the record i was never a big fan of gaga's music even at her peak)
― dyl, Saturday, 1 February 2020 04:09 (five years ago)
Where the Gaga and Xenomania (or more specifically Girls Aloud) comparisons don't quite scan for me is that those productions were absolutely laden with tinsel and tack, whereas Physical has a very specific Drive-soundtrack type filter laden over it. Gaga in particular was unabashedly cheesy in a way that sounded very jarring at the end of the 00s. Physical is going for a kind of dated robotic cool and the Stuart Price production credit absolutely makes sense in that context.
― Matt DC, Saturday, 1 February 2020 09:36 (five years ago)
Also "this decade's Emotion" is a pretty absurd thing to say about a pop star who in commercial terms has already eclipsed CRJ several times over.
Both singles do feel like a swerve away from that very specific late 10s Spotify pop sound and towards a kind of classicism though.
― Matt DC, Saturday, 1 February 2020 09:42 (five years ago)
"this decade's emotion" is exactly the sort of ridiculous thing i'd expect from stans on popjustice. i don't really think it makes much sense in any regard but i understand what they're trying to say
price isn't on "physical" though, only a few yet-to be released album tracks.

popjustice denizens freaking out about something is pretty much meaningless as they've spent the past five years or so foaming at the mouth every time a thin white woman serves up dance-pop with any commercial ambition whatsoever, only to lose interest each time said woman proves incapable of reaching the hot 100 more than twice. good for them that dua's finally coming thru, tho

The reaction on Popjustice is partly because the thread on Dua was started five years ago when a lot of people fell in love with her from the first release of Be The One (when it wasn't a hit). I followed that thread and people were crazy invested in her through every single and collaboration (and that's about eight singles) before the album even came out. It often looked like she might get dropped and be another popinjustice as often happens (see also Annie -- a hero on that forum). The first album was delayed three times and came out a whole year after its initial release date. It's strange to think about what a struggle it was to get that album out and remember that the label who were desperately looking for that hit, just put it out anyway with the Miguel single which was that album's biggest failure.
When New Rules went to number one, it was a rare moment for those posters where everything worked out. Dua seems to be getting everything right this time round and I really don't begrudge the Popjustice crowd for getting so excited. The Emotion comparison is just the idea of a perfect pop record that's perfectly executed (the quality of music, not the release I'm guessing) It looks like Dua is going to get the bigger commercial success, but it's worth remembering that in the U.K I Really Like You was actually a huge hit. It was only when Run Away With Me flopped and that ridiculous staggered release strategy when Emotion started heading for cult status.

― monotony, Tuesday, 25 February 2020 00:18 (five years ago)
Amazing how the remix just fixes everything that doesn't quite work about the original and then spends the last couple of minutes just putting its hands in the air.
― Matt DC, Tuesday, 25 February 2020 07:41 (five years ago)
Also I think it's a remix interspersed with bits of live vocal? Really hammers home the extent to which her production sucks all the spontaneity out of her performance.
― Matt DC, Tuesday, 25 February 2020 07:43 (five years ago)
i did a quick side by side comparison and i think that's right. the original song, the "live in la" performance video and the "remix" seem to all have the same vocal take, with the "live" ones just having a few live ad-libs added. the only difference i can tell between the performance video and the remix is the mix has been adjusted slightly - the drums hit harder is the main thing.
the original is fine but the remix really should have been the single. just cut off the intro for the radio edit and it's perfect surely?
― ufo, Tuesday, 25 February 2020 08:33 (five years ago)
I think you must all be high :D
Now, if there was a version of the single mix extended out to 6 minutes then we we would be talking.

― Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Wednesday, 4 March 2020 17:31 (five years ago)
"Don't Start Now" should climb again this week if BTS, who unexpectedly vaulted into #4 without any radio play, drop down. Lady Gaga's single is looking unlikely to threaten the top 5 but "Blinding Lights" might with its strong airplay performance.
"Physical" has so far peaked at #11 in the UK but isn't doing much on any other chart. (It's not on the Hot 100 at all at the moment). She hasn't really promoted "Physical" at all - at least in comparison to the way she promoted "Don't Start Now" - so I wonder whether they're saving the next barrage for a third single to then lead into the album release, which is now only a month away.

I'm actually DJing in Los Angeles in April, as half of Hot Mess, and only the second time we have been booked outside the UK, and I'm very excited. Although I/we play mostly house & techno I like to throw something very current in amongst the more minimal stuff we usually play to hype up the energy or whether that wuls be seen as naff? So the reason I asked about her North American profile was that I was wondering if playing DSN would work. fwiw, it's an LGBT party.
and fwiw, as well, If you are in LA get in touch, send me a webmail on here or whatever. The party is called Ostbanhof. It seems extremely cool (ostbanhof is the name of the station you get off at to go to Bergain in Berlin)

― Alain the Botton (jed_), Wednesday, 4 March 2020 23:50 (five years ago)
the remix, live in LA or whatever it's called has the excellent percolating intro, which as someone said above should be the standard version of the song… and I have heard it on multiple radio formats and in RL situations in the past month…it is immediately effective in every single context I have encountered, so I would think it would go down a storm at the LGBT party of which you speak…probly a lot of the people who will be there do already or will know it by then, and any that don't would likely be immediately into it…

Her singing is competent, but lacking in personality (she sounds bored). The music is mostly polite, generic dance-pop. The White Town sample is distracting, as samples of well-known songs can be. I like what “Break My Heart” does with the INXS melody.

Went for walk in the park the other night that turned into a disco stepping affair to the beat/tune of this album. “Break My Heart” and “Pretty Please” are on a par with the two big singles for me, but “Levitating” and “Hallucinate”, enjoyable as they are, had me restless for some Fever-era Kylie. I settled on a loop of the full non-edited “Groovejet”. iow, mixed results (but man did it feel good to be outside again - shame it’s so cold right now)
― No mean feat. DaBaby (breastcrawl), Wednesday, 1 April 2020 20:38 (five years ago)
I have to admit I'm thoroughly enjoying both sample-heavy cuts. Imho "Love Again" tops "Break My Heart"; it's simply a better song. On the other hand, "Break My Heart", really does it for me with the... cleverness? i'm not sure that's the word but it's the best I can think about. Any way, it's clever in the way it integrates the INXS riff, and it's so sticky.
But the two songs that I keep hearing in my mind when I'm not actually listening to the album are "Hallucinate" and "Cool". I think those two will end up being my favorite cuts. "Hallucinate" in particular is totally relentless and reminded me of "Fever" too.
― cpl593H, Friday, 3 April 2020 15:18 (five years ago)
I'm also hearing "patchy" but not in a bad way. The payoffs are big.

i'm not satisfied by the dialogue i've seen about dua lipa, maybe i just haven't found the good stuff. nothing is good at describing how successfully she occupies this space of having been around the block re: love and relationships but maintaining this clear line from what she knows is real love to how it may or may not play out for her. the register of her voice, the craft of the songs all highlight this appeal. when people accuse it of being generic i think they .. aren't available for this kind of direct, concise, surprisingly deep and worldly discourse on love from a contemporary pop star. she has been very good and successful and convincing at giving us variations on this not generic but general theme. i have a hard time thinking of pop stars who i can satisfactorily compare her to for this reason.
― Give me a Chad Smith-type feel (map), Monday, 27 July 2020 20:02 (five years ago)
it occurred to me that she's like if Amy Winehouse wasn't reactionary, a la "oh contemporary pop music is so bad, I want to sound like when it was so pure" etc etc… it so happens that her voice is very similar to AW's, but it is used atop state of the art pop stylings…

dua lipa is fine. I'm a little suspicious of how pop stars are rewarded commercially and sometimes critically for having very manicured, "always on", don't-rock-the-boat personas (the recent twitter thing an amusing aberration) but she's got a bunch of jams it would be silly to deny
― the quar on drugs (Simon H.), Tuesday, 28 July 2020 17:41 (five years ago)
Veronica, I kind of admired how strange it was fwiw.
― Gerneten-flüken cake (jed_), Tuesday, 28 July 2020 17:46 (five years ago)
I'm confused by that tweet up there. I worked out belatedly that The Black Madonna has changed her name to The Blessed Madonna. Featuring actual pop star Madonna ( I misunderstood and thought she was being referred to as Blessed) also featuring Missy E but there other person in that pictorial collage is not Missy.

― stirmonster, Friday, 28 August 2020 02:23 (five years ago)
i mean...it was never advertised as anything other than basically a blessed madonna x dua lipa DJ-kicks?
personally i think it's really fun! i was very underwhelmed by the madonna & missy remix, but it sounds a little less drab in context and there are many other entertaining moments. "boys will be boys" finally making sense as a samba workout! jayda-g doing "cool"! mr fingers elevating "hallucinate"!
not sure why it's being retconned into this era but i liked the new take on "kiss and make up" as well.
― monotony, Friday, 28 August 2020 03:00 (five years ago)
i haven't heard it yet but I was under the impression that BM was playing curator for these remixes by other people. def changes things if it's a mix.
― Roz, Friday, 28 August 2020 06:37 (five years ago)
it's both as far as I understand it?
The tracks have been remixed by the artists listed but it's been assembled as a mix?
― Number None, Friday, 28 August 2020 07:11 (five years ago)
yes, that's correct (sorry if I implied otherwise). The Blessed Madonna has taken the various remixes and turned them into what's more or less a continuous ~50 min mix
― monotony, Friday, 28 August 2020 07:51 (five years ago)
this thread has me doubting reality
― J0rdan S., Friday, 28 August 2020 07:52 (five years ago)
anyway this is a much cooler idea than a normal remix album
xpost yep I'm listening now and that's what it is - sorry, was thrown off by jed's "nobody's remixed anything" post upthread.
I don't know about this... there are some good moments but the mix feels rushed, there's barely any time for the tracks to breathe. both the Mr. Fingers and Paul Woolford remixes need to be wayyyy longer than two minutes wtf.
Faves so far: BM's own remix of Love is Religion (is that a new track?) might be the best thing here, so joyful. also liked the Jayda G and "Boys will be Boys" remixes, and the Dimitri from Paris edit - is it time for the jamiroquai re-appraisal yet?
Worst: the Mark Ronson remix as mentioned above (Gwen Stefani doesn't have the chops to carry that huge "Physical" chorus at all, yikes) and the JLC remix which is just hilariously lazy.
― Roz, Friday, 28 August 2020 07:57 (five years ago)
need the unmixed versions of these ... could barely make out the mr fingers track
― ILX’s bad boy (D-40), Friday, 28 August 2020 08:16 (five years ago)

Kids all over twitter saying how awful this is. One 20-second snippet of the MAW one has them generally freaking out underneath 'it sounds like a load of random computer game noises!'.
There are some pretty ancient names involved, you'd think remix culture would've moved on a bit in the last three or four decades.
― piscesx, Friday, 28 August 2020 10:20 (five years ago)
.. although by contrast someone on PJ claims 'the vibe makes me wanna pour a babycham and do a line off someone’s D' so, horses for courses.
― piscesx, Friday, 28 August 2020 10:35 (five years ago)
I don’t blame the kids - given how rushed this feels, there’s hardly anything for them to latch on to and the lack of name recognition doesn’t help. Like aside from Missy and Madonna, they prob don’t know anyone else than maybe Yaeji and Mark Ronson (the latter’s is the one they all seem to like so go figure).
― Roz, Friday, 28 August 2020 11:09 (five years ago)
I've got as far as the Boys Will Be Boys remix and everyone concerned is half-arsing this so transparently.
― Matt DC, Friday, 28 August 2020 12:20 (five years ago)

― unpaid intern at the darvo institute (Simon H.), Friday, 28 August 2020 13:06 (five years ago)
That's one of the better ones IMO, the Horse Meat Disco one is OK and the Paul Woolford is good, but that's about it. Larry Heard barely even bothered to get out of bed.
I suppose we should have looked at the track listing and seen 'annoying Girl Talk album' in our collective future but we live and learn.

There's the sample and there's also the preceding remix which is listed as Mr Fingers.
― Matt DC, Friday, 28 August 2020 14:06 (five years ago)
Ok I can’t check at the moment but doesn’t it go blessed/madonna/missy then Gwen Stefani then 10-20 seconds of next to nothing then the sun can’t compare then Paul woolford? So is the Larry heard mix the 10-20 seconds of nothing?
― Gerneten-flüken cake (jed_), Friday, 28 August 2020 14:23 (five years ago)
lol yeah I think it probably is. It’s possible there is actually a Mr Fingers remix that hasn’t really made the album in any audible form.

Hoo boy, I’m only halfway through it but I think I can safely say that Club Future Nostalgia is terrible. Whoever said upthread that it sounded like everyone was half-assing it is otm. Or maybe it’s just that this “Blessed Madonna” wanker has no talent.
The “Live in LA” remix of “Don’t Start Now” is the only good Dua Lipa remix and even that isn’t as good as the original. I’ll stick with the original Future Nostalgia album thank you very much.

― Jeff W, Friday, 11 September 2020 19:28 (five years ago)
Good grief this is a huge disappointment. I wasn't even that wild about the actual album this is based on but it had some great moments. Imagine thinking what Physical needed was to be slowed down and have all of its energy and grandiosity sucked out of it

I really admire that instead of reaching for the obvious names like Kygo/Diplo/Skrillex this exists and will introduce a generation of listeners to names like Masters At Work and Mr Fingers... OK I can kinda see why it was left off the album - it’s more nostalgia than future nostalgia I guess ha. The remix solves that problem by leaning into the Madonna vibes and turning it into a straightforward pop-house track.

some of the remixes are ok i guess but they're all at least second-tier for the artists in question imo. the fingers remix is nice but it's hard for me to ignore how his chords clash with the key of the vocal. worst in that regard is the paul woolford remix, just like ... wtf was he thinking? that doesn't work for me on any level. it just seems like there was no dialogue at all between dua lipa or her songwriters and the remixers - just all on separate islands and it sounds totally phoned in as a result, less than the sum of the parts. there must have just been too many people involved without anyone making overall creative decisions and like covid and everything, idk.

ps. heard the proper album now. yeah, it's bloody brilliant.still don't get the hate the re mixtape as it's exactly what i'd expect/want from a dj mixtape.celeb phone ins, samples, and quick cut-n-paste drops of remixes.i think it's a brilliant 50 mins of pop/dance perfection.
given the rather boring megamix that girls aloud put out for their Tangled Up album release, then i cant help but throw a lot of love to Dupa for the effort put in by all concerned.

https://www.vice.com/en/article/wxdbmq/the-dua-lipa-lawsuits-could-cost-her-millions-according-to-a-lawyer
There are two suits. One concerning the vocal melody in "Live Your Life" (posted above), the other the vocal melodies in these songs written by L. Russell Brown and Sandy Linzer:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EsEXuWK7PZE
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XCtlrFwKE_Y
I am very curious to see how this turns out. With acts/songs these small, it's not hard to imagine these could be coincidences; others have noted the Artikal melody sounds like "Rosa Parks," too.
You have to show your work is original, and you have to show some theory of access, meaning that [the defendant] had a reasonable ability to access it. Then you get to substantial similarity, which is a two-step process.
This is such a weak requirement so as to be basically pointless. I suppose it protects a famous artist from being sued by any John Doe but Artikal Sound System isn't far removed. It would be interesting if they had to prove the artists involved had the song in question in their possession. Is some sort of digital forensics ludicrously easy to evade?
― Indexed, Thursday, 24 March 2022 18:35 (three years ago)
This is getting ridiculous unless I am listening to the wrong parts of the songs, in both cases there is only a passing similarity of rhythm and melody, but only in the case of the line using very broad immediate patterns.
― Chewshabadoo, Friday, 25 March 2022 05:13 (three years ago)
That “Blurred Lines” lawyer doesn’t provide much in the way of analysis, he just makes some pretty obvious points (“if she didn’t copy the song, she’ll fight the lawsuit; if she did, she’ll settle,” etc.). They should have talked to a musicologist about how strong the similarities actually are.
― Please don’t take / My time change away (morrisp), Friday, 25 March 2022 06:00 (three years ago)
(These cases are so common now, thanks to that guy’s big win.)
― Please don’t take / My time change away (morrisp), Friday, 25 March 2022 06:01 (three years ago)
there's an audible similarity with the artikal sound system track, probably enough to hold up in court with how weak things are after the "blurred lines" lawsuit
but the brown/lizner tracks seem pretty dubious, there's just a tiny bit of the melody that has a similar phrasing & rhythm to it, but i don't think the melody itself is actually that close?
― ufo, Friday, 25 March 2022 06:36 (three years ago)

Somehow I was expecting something completely different because she had mentioned that that the new album was going to be 70s psychedelia-inspired. I don't even know what that means but I can't hear any 70s or psychedelia in this track. Sounds more like it has elements from a very specific era circa the early 80s.
I do think it is excellent, though. Much better than Dance The Night.

"Radical Optimism" out May 3
1. end of an era2. houdini 3. training season 4. these walls 5. whatcha doing 6. french exit7. illusion 8. falling forever 9. anything for love 10. maria 11. happy for you
"A couple years ago, a friend introduced me to the term Radical Optimism. It’s a concept that resonated with me, and I became more curious as I started to play with it and weave it into my life," Lipa says in the announcement. "It struck me – the idea of going through chaos gracefully and feeling like you can weather any storm. At the same time, I found myself looking through the music history of psychedelia, trip hop, and Britpop. It has always felt so confidently optimistic to me, and that honesty and attitude is a feeling I took into my recording sessions."

― Never fight uphill 'o me, boys! (President Keyes), Thursday, 2 May 2024 20:04 (one year ago)
well she has released a series of retread singles that are essentially objectively not as good as the singles from the previous record. so it feels like a 1+1=2 situation to me
― slob wizard (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 2 May 2024 20:30 (one year ago)
there's been a weird disconnect with the rollout where she has cited a bunch of british rock bands as influences but the audience is just hearing a replay of her last 'era'... i wonder if the album will reveal a tension between the single choices & the album tracks that makes her framing of it make more sense
― slob wizard (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 2 May 2024 20:41 (one year ago)
i don't think the singles really felt that much like retreads - they very much sound like they're produced by kevin parker - but they're a definite step down
listening now the first track is really nice, much better than the singles
― ufo, Thursday, 2 May 2024 22:56 (one year ago)
i'm kinda expecting that all the talk about being influenced by primal scream is just referring to like, the shuffling percussion in the background of "houdini"
― ufo, Thursday, 2 May 2024 23:00 (one year ago)
None of the songs touch the highlights of the previous album for me, but I enjoyed my first listen. It's a little bit more all-over-the-place than I expected; after the first track I thought the through line might've been...Moloko or fin de siècle William Orbit or something, but it's less balearic than that. "Falling Forever" reminded me of a Eurovision song!
I predict it will do well across Europe, but absolutely nothing in the US.

this is pretty solid, there's no real duds, but it's never really great either. i agree about it likely doing well in europe but flopping in the usa
― ufo, Thursday, 2 May 2024 23:56 (one year ago)
yeah agree with that. a number of solid tracks here, particularly the closer (which really starts and ends like 10cc)
― Vinnie, Friday, 3 May 2024 01:15 (one year ago)
"Illusion" is still a dud though
― Vinnie, Friday, 3 May 2024 01:18 (one year ago)
ufo, I mostly agree with that. There aren't weak songs here, but apart from End Of An Era which I love there's nothing that touches the best moments on Future Nostalgia. I think it could grow on me after a few listens. I really like how lush and chilled out it is.
― kitchen person, Friday, 3 May 2024 02:18 (one year ago)
it's probably more solid as an album than future nostalgia which bizarrely fell off in the last few tracks, but it doesn't reach the same highs. i'm frustrated though because there are some good ideas that they didn't lean into enough
― ufo, Friday, 3 May 2024 05:15 (one year ago)
Meh. On first listen has none of the charm and a fraction of the hooks of Future Nostalgia.
― Chewshabadoo, Friday, 3 May 2024 10:34 (one year ago)
Sounded to me like a (flawed?) attempt to appeal more to a US “real songs” market IMO. But maybe I don’t know what I’m talkin’ ’bout.

I'm really hooked on End of an Era at the moment. I especially love the "I've lost all my senses, la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la-la" bit. It's one of my favourite songs she's done.
I'm really surprised by the negative reaction this is getting online. I saw a few people call it her Solar Power which is just cold. Maria is the only one I'm not totally sold on at the moment. Even the singles have grown on me.
I'm wondering which single will be put out next. I can't really see a big Levitating moment on here.
― kitchen person, Tuesday, 7 May 2024 01:42 (one year ago)
she's my favorite recording artist of the past six years, and if people who fixate on whether a record hits #1 or not crow that she's fallen off? well I've never been hung up on fucking charts anyway and so this record is fantastic… like, it seems like chart obsessives really like math or sports, or beyhive or swifties or little monsters and people like that are really into "we're #1" triumphalism, which seems to me to be contrary to, like art and creativity and dancing and songs concerned with romance and pleasure.
I will say that she has a really interesting vocal —or pronounciative— quirk on this record… she pronounces "err" or "Urr" as "oyy": so you have "forev-oyy" instead of forever, or "nay-choyy" instead of nature.

i like it so much more as a whole than future nostalgia, and i think the production here is the most natural home for her vocals, their total lack of subtlety just works with the production's simultaneous intricacy and breeziness, like going to the beach in the middle of a breakup. the optimal ratio of knotty funk to big feelings. walking around in the sun to this record was a freaking blast

We saw her the other night. Can confirm 3 of your 4 — she’s obviously put in hours with her dance team. It was non-stop choreography, every track like a Super Bowl halftime show.

she’s talked about working hard to improve her dancing, glad the effort is paying off!
Has anyone mentioned her book club/podcast? Her choices show great taste and range imo, and doesn’t feel like it’s just picking out the latest trendy book like so many other celeb book clubs. Her author interviews are surprisingly insightful as well, always a delight to see writers light up when they meet someone who actually seems to have engaged with their writing.
I adore her, the rare pop star who seems to have figured how to do it right - just be hot, go on endless vacations, eat great food, read lots of books, do lots of yoga, dance
