Would fit snugly on a rolling worst music of the 2010s thread.

pomenitul, Tuesday, 22 January 2019 16:59 (seven years ago)

The music is truly awful, but his face is significantly worse.

If there's a way that music as bad as that Yungblud thing can be prevented from making it off the island in future, then Brexit will be worth it (to the rest of the world).

grawlix (unperson), Tuesday, 22 January 2019 19:54 (seven years ago)

Knew the revive would be bcz of the fully deserved Malkmus stinker

Uptown VONC (Le Bateau Ivre), Tuesday, 22 January 2019 19:56 (seven years ago)

I mean if you'd asked me in 1999 what Malkmus would be doing in 2019, my guess wouldn't have been too far from literally everything about that song and video.

Just checked the RYM top 200 records. Statistically, i like about 15-20 records from that list per year. now i found only 1. So unless the next 2/3rd of the year is going to be amazing, 2019 will be the worst

nostormo, Wednesday, 1 May 2019 18:52 (six years ago)

Sticking to the current top 10, Weyes Blood, The Caretaker, Waste of Space Orchestra, Billy Woods & Kenny Segal and Inter Arma are all great.

pomenitul, Wednesday, 1 May 2019 18:55 (six years ago)

It's subjective of course.

There's never been a year when RYM has basically jacked my own personal taste so hard haha

imago, Wednesday, 1 May 2019 19:03 (six years ago)

Quelle Chris and Little Simz aren't half bad either, although I think I prefer the former based on a cursory listen of each.

pomenitul, Wednesday, 1 May 2019 19:06 (six years ago)

Alwsys Lot's of hip hop and metal on RYM, which i don't like, but maybe more so this year

for each successive remix they should add someone who has a word that rhymes with hat that they can highlight in their verse.

I'M A BRAT MAN (Bushido raps about eating sausage)
I'M A GNAT MAN (Tiny from Xscape sings about being short)
I'M THE BATMAN (Robert Pattinson mumbles something)
I'M A LAT MAN (Terry Crews flexes)

This should optimally continue for seven hours.

Poncho De Nigris - viaje astral

https://youtu.be/td0di7O6KSE

So... bit of a backstory on this one: this guy is actually the not so talented brother of a famous soccer player in Mexico. Earlier this year he was invited to sing on meme-song “La Cobra” which was a big party hit in Mexico, and like most party hit, it’s terrible but also somewhat fun for a while.

This is the follow-up single after the success of the first one. It’s pretty much a remake, only this time they tried too hard to make it a meme video and song and it shows. This is just terrible, forced party music and the video is a cringefest for everyone involved.

✖✖✖ (Moka), Thursday, 11 July 2019 08:19 (six years ago)

Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 16 July 2019 01:18 (six years ago)

ok, regardless of whether that Avett thing is the worst of the year or not, i'm kinda dying to know if:

a) the Avett Army has broken out in civil war over that song, brother against brother-style, OR

b) if they're all just so blindly loyal and believe the boys can do no wrong and, thus, everyone loves it

it's definitely one of the two.

This sounds like the theme song to an early 90s "heartland" sitcom. If this is the best country music can do, burn the genre to the ground and start over.

american bradass (BradNelson), Thursday, 12 September 2019 13:36 (six years ago)

It’s a terrific song; I knew I’d be buying the album as soon as I heard the chorus.

#YABASIC (morrisp), Thursday, 12 September 2019 14:09 (six years ago)

I haven't listened to the highwomen album but that song is indeed not good -- I still can't believe someone recorded a cute pun on "Designing Women" in 2019 and claimed it was new and fresh

like, I’m eating an elephant head (katherine), Thursday, 12 September 2019 17:25 (six years ago)

(and "designing women" was already a play on words, too)

like, I’m eating an elephant head (katherine), Thursday, 12 September 2019 17:26 (six years ago)

I avoided this because my complete non-appreciation for most country music is well-known by this point and probably tired, but not nearly as tired as this song. It sounds like something characters on Glee would write as part of a special country-themed episode.

brigadier pudding (DJP), Thursday, 12 September 2019 17:27 (six years ago)

i like their cover of "The Chain" a lot; "redesigning women" is a bum track but maybe the most likely one off that album to get some pop country radio coverage?

this is spot on, i think. album is good, this song is corny and clumsy but absolutely makes sense as a single / radio hit because most people are corny and they like clumsy

alpine static, Thursday, 12 September 2019 18:50 (six years ago)

corny and clumsy aren't really the issue with it (I like both of those things) -- it's just dated and fusty

I heard that atrocious "Play That Song" and "Drops of Jupiter," too. A lot of Train. I almost had to leave.

ugh, never heard "Dance Monkey" until just now. It's bad, but the wiki entry starts with the makings of a good short story.

"Watson was born and raised in Mount Martha on the Mornington Peninsula. She learned how to play keyboards and drum pads at high school and later gathered experience performing local gigs and festivals."

It's 'Dance Monkey' by Tones & I
