~~~~~~~~~~TL;DR~~~~~~~~~~Link to Submit Your Ballotlink to full list of nominationsspotify playlist of nominationsDeadline: March 31st, 2019, 11:59:59.999999 PM~~~~~~~~~~
after collecting a handful of nominations, at long last, it’s time to vote!
the final list of nominees.
Each ballot can have up to 50 songs. The final rollout will include 119 songs, if all goes well. There are 4 ballot options (Ranked, Unranked, Mixed, and the Clemenza Option). There are also 3 sub-polls: Top 5 songs under 30 seconds, Favorite <2 minutes artist, and Top 5 songs that aren’t on the nominations list. More details below. Please use this thread to campaign for your faves, including the ones that aren’t on the massive spotify playlist for the nominations.
How to submit your ballot:
1) submit your ballot via this Google Form: https://goo.gl/forms/GaYQfyOscmQ0nPSB2
2) you’ll be asked to submit your ballot using one of four options: Ranked, Unranked, Mixed, and the Clemenza Option (details about these options below, and also on the Google form in Step 1 above)
3) **PLEASE** form your baby ballot by copying and pasting from this full list of nominations: https://pastebin.com/PuG4RdvE
do not type the rank/number for each song. just copy and paste the entire line for the song you want (including the length), like this:
Jimmy Toledo - Holy Smokes! (1:52)Jenny Creekbed - Unholy Water (0:32)Jerry Bassface and the Tenortones - Choogaloo River (1:32)
if you’re doing a ranked ballot, put your fave song on top, you’re least fave on the bottom.
If you don’t want to do 50 songs, that’s ok! just submit as many as you want to, up to a limit of 50.
4) there are also three optional sub-polls: Top 5 songs under 30 seconds, Favorite <2 minutes artist, and Top 5 songs that aren’t on the nominations list because of a technical formality or because i fucked up or because it wasn’t nominated because this world is going to HELL, etc
5) Do all this by midnight, March 31st!
~~~~~~~~~~other things~~~~~~~~~~
RANKED BALLOT: what it sounds like. your top 50, ranked from top to bottom. top song will get 500 points, bottom will get 83. All 50 will add up to 10,000 points. refer to this post for the points for each rank.
UNRANKED BALLOT. your fave 50 songs. each will get 200 points. if you submit fewer than 50 songs, they’ll still each get 200 points.
MIXED BALLOT: the top 20 songs will be ranked (500 points for the #1, scaling down to 197 points for #20). songs #21-30 will get 162 points each, #31-40 will get 129 points each, and #41-50 will get 98 points each.
THE CLEMENZA OPTION: songs #1-10 receive 300 points. #11-25: 217 points each. #26-49: 150 points each. #50: 145 points.
Each 50-song ballot will add up to 10,000 points. but when i do the final rollout (which should be 119 songs), i will apply a complex mathematical procedure known as “multiplying by a tiny number” that will create a pleasingly tiny number point totals.
the question of which songs are shorter than 2 minutes is a complicated one. depending on the format you listen to, or the online resource you trust (CD, LP, streaming, all music, discogs, etc), you can and will get very different answers to how long a particular song is. after a while, i just decided to go with spotify (US version) as the arbitrator of song lengths. i realize that this is a flawed system - many songs are just a bit over 2:00 on Spotify but if you listen, they actually fade out several seconds beforehand - but i did not want to do several dozen battles regarding song lengths for particular songs. for songs that weren’t on Spotify, Discogs was used as the secondary arbitrator. even then, there were weird issues, mistakes on my end, and i probably accidentally pissed off a bunch of people. if there is a sub-2 minute song that you adore and it’s not on the list, please vote for in the appropriate sub-poll. i am sorry. i really did my best. please try to have fun and not get overly concerned about an online poll.
~~~~~~~~~~
vote early, but don’t vote often! just once will do.
i think that’s it! if there are questions please let me know, but please note that it is now officially too late to change the nominations list. please use this thread to hype your faves.
First of all, thank you for this amazing effort so far KM!
Now let's hear it for our musical heroes. I'm especially keen to promote the interests of a couple of things not on Spotify...
The Sea Nymphs - On The Dry Land is just about the most beautiful little vignette I can think of, and neatly summarises the entire Cardiacs aesthetic in 1:46 of yearning paradise
Of course, you might also delight in some choice Dadaism courtesy of the good folks at Blanche Blanche Blanche
And if I must promote something a) on Spotify and b) not nominated by me, then truly it is amusing yet emotional if one imagines what ducks go through
second that "jangly mods" link by clemenza ("For Another Man" by the Motions). that was one of the early new-to-me finds of this process. it's basically a beatles help or rubber soul era song
As they aren't on Spotify I'll have to campaign for The Yummy Fur, one of my 3 favourite bands of all time and for some reason their entire catalogue is currently unavailable to buy or stream, except on youtube.Here is my first choice, a b-side from 96 called The Career Saverhttps://youtu.be/tElQEnCefOoI was going to list a few more, but they aren't even on youtube, so will upload tonight and make a playlist.
Three of my noms aren't on Spotify, so I figure I'll campaign for those here via YouTube:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jYeDY6YkzIg
X, "Suck Suck" (1.55)
(note that this is the *other* late 70s punk band named X; this lot are from Australia)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ahdjCoL5Yw
Pulsars, "Owed to a Devil" (1.59)
(the YouTube version is 2:05; I'm going off what I have copied off of my CD copy, which I take to be the "official" time)
Kenickie, "Private Bukowski" (1.42)
why i'm frustrated:
1) i have put in an enormous amount of my free time, in a very stressful time of my life (new job that fucking BLOWS), doing this. i know that others offered to help and that all of the responsibility for spending a bunch of time of it is on me.2) i posted the nominations list several times in the old thread. other people helped me comb through it. i knew there would be omissions and mistakes anyway, and lord help me i knew there would be complaints. i thought that posting the nominations list ahead of time, several times, would help3) i didn't want to change the nominations list / fix mistakes after starting this thread, because 3a) someone will then complain that they didn't know a song was added and it wasn't fair3b) it will keep happening. 6 hours later, someone will realize that the greatest song of all time, which they clearly nominated, wasn't added. i will submit the pastebin file, then ask a mod to change all the references to the pastebin file in the opening post of this thread, then edit the google form to replace all the references to the pastebin file. then the next day someone will realize that another one of the greatest songs of all time that was clearly nominated isn't on there, and i will do it again. someone will offer to do it for me but i'd have to give them my google password, so nope.3c) after doing all of that, someone will complain about some other shit4) i pre-emptively apologized for all of this in my opening post and tried to come up with a backup plan to appease people: "there were weird issues, mistakes on my end, and i probably accidentally pissed off a bunch of people. if there is a sub-2 minute song that you adore and it’s not on the list, please vote for in the appropriate sub-poll. i am sorry. i really did my best. please try to have fun and not get overly concerned about an online poll."5) i recognize the irony in me constantly asking everyone not to freak out about an online poll of short songs, while myself freaking out about an online poll of short songs. i am like the shaking with rage guy yelling "chill the fuck out!" at a room of frightened people. sorry
― but i'm there are fuckups (Karl Malone), Sunday, 10 March 2019 19:33 (six years ago)
6) but if i DON'T add 'diamond day' to the official list of nominations, i can look forward to multiple people complaining about the low placement of the song in the results, because of course not everyone is going to wade through this thread and notice that it was added later. same goes for all of my other mistakes
― but i'm there are fuckups (Karl Malone), Sunday, 10 March 2019 19:35 (six years ago)
conclusion: there a reason nobody likes to do this shit
sorry dan, sorry emil.y. you did nothing wrong, and if it wasn't you, it was inevitably going to be someone else catching a mistake. i hate my new job.
― but i'm there are fuckups (Karl Malone), Sunday, 10 March 2019 19:36 (six years ago)
Hey Karl, don't beat yourself up about it. With 2000+ nominations it's inevitable that things will go awol in the copying and pasting. FWIW I think you're doing a great job and am really looking forward to the results in a few weeks time.
after taking a walk i realized two things:
- i want to apologize, again, especially to emil.y. i tend to get frustrated with myself when i make mistakes, and this is a situation where mistakes are inevitable. and i took it out on you. sorry, emil.y. not cool.
- i do want to avoid the dilemma and hassle of making a bunch more changes to the nominations list over the next few weeks because i want everyone to be voting on the same things. so how about this: i will make ONE more big update to the nominations list (adding in the vashti song, correcting the more minor mistakes that flopsy and others have pointed out (thank you for all of your help), etc. then i'll make a new pastebin list (i can't edit the original one because i don't have a paid account) and edit the google form with the updated link. i'll also ask a kind mod to please update the links in the OP on this thread as well.
it would be wonderful if people could help out by just checking their own nominations and making sure that there isn't any missing that obviously should be there. i really don't want to start a new wave of disputes about songs near 2 minutes. but if i made a vashti-sized fuckup, please let me know during the next 6 hours.
― but i'm there are fuckups (Karl Malone), Sunday, 10 March 2019 22:44 (six years ago)
― that's not my post
it's...probably about 3/4 of the playlist time? would have been longer without the help of others in correcting things, that's for sure. there will be a lot of QC on the received ballots, too, unfortunately. i tried to make it clear that i wanted people to copy and paste each line in their ballot from the pastebin list, with no numbers/ranks, but the very first ballot i received was ranked with numbers, lower case, used definite articles inconsistently, sometimes "artist - track" and sometimes "track - artist", etc. so yeah, it's going to be a lot of fixing things like that.
i implore everyone to please, please just copy and paste from the list. when you don't do it, you literally are saying "hey you. you do the work instead."
This song I nominated is on Spotify but due to their typo in the artist's name (two g's in Cambridge) it did not get pulled into the playlist. I also accidentally nominated it as "He's a Mover" (the wrong title on Spotify) instead of "He's About a Mover." ANYWAY, it's an amazingly fast, stomping version of the Sir Douglas Quintet original. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v6ejvbPE8_g
― Chris L, Sunday, 10 March 2019 23:33 (six years ago)
Karl: checked my nominations and only found two minor things, both of which can stand as is. One typo: the Accents song is "Ching a Long" (listed as "China a Long"). And two White Stripes songs are listed as "The White Stripes," another as just "White Stripes."
Something that just occurred to me: I'm really happy I nominated the Mendoza Line. (If you don't know baseball, the Mendoza Line, named after a famously poor hitter from the '70s, is .200.)
additions:
Typo/definite article corrections:
Steely Dan - “Through With Buzz"Accents - "Ching a Long"Took “the” off of two White Stripes songs
~~~~
any other things that need correcting? as i mentioned above, this will be the final final edit to the nominations list. speak now or forever hold your peace. and in the event that you don't hold your peace, i will try not to be a total asshole this time in responding.
in about 30 minutes i will submit the new list as a pastebin file, post it here, edit all of places in the google form that refer to it, and ask a mod to edit the OP of this thread with the correct links to the updated nominations list.

There definitely are some big similarities there imago. The thing that most intrigues me about the Earlimart song is when it hangs on the minor piano notes (from about 1:06 - 1:22) instead of finishing the sequence.

And since KM took the trouble to fix up the spelling, some great doo-wop from 1959 (of admittedly dubious sensitivity):
Ching a Long (Accents, 1959)
Contrary to the credits on the clip, it is "Ching a Long," not "Ching a Ling" (a point raised in the comments section). Seems to be listed as "Ching a Ling" all over the internet, but:

For those that like their songs *really* short, here's a playlist I made of songs that are all 7 seconds or less
https://open.spotify.com/user/1000timesyes/playlist/3n34eIuHsO4ZARoSYymkwL?si=hZ1Gn9dsS02tj5Jkmw3pCw

Idk if you're allowed to campaign for your own nominations or if it's in bad taste but then again I am a vulgar, vulgar man, a real nouveau riche ilx type shithead, so I am gonna do it anyway and beg for your forgiveness later, MAYBE.
Brian Eno - The Microsoft Sound (0:06) - Just wanted to remind you all this is available to put on your ballot. IT'S REAL GOOD, Y'ALL!Danny Elfman - The Simpsons Main Theme (1:39) - This too. It's fine? I don't even know if I'll vote for it, but it is iconic.AFI - Hearts Frozen Solid, Thawed Once More by the Spring of Rage, Despair, and Hopelessness (0:32) - A real test of Poe's law here (or whatever the... not internet? equivalent? of poe's law? is?), I can't tell if this is just the most "angry pop punk" song ever or a send-up of the genre. Either way, 30 seconds of Davey Havoc screaming I WILL DIE SCREAMING is a joy, and this is probably the only AFI song I have ever liked. Plus, there has to be at least one representative from Fat Wreck's "short music for short people," an album of 100 thirty-second songs, right?Project X - Straight Edge Revenge (1:20) - Yes, yes, you should vote for the Minor Threat song, blah blah blah, YAWN, but, like, this is the best update to the "short song about not doing drugs hardcore" microgenre ever. I'M AS STRAIGHT! AS THE LINE! THAT YOU SNORT UP YOUR NOSE! hahaha. Come on. vote for itMitski - Old Friend (1:53) - maybe my fave short song by my fave artist of the decade so you know i'll stan for it. with 50 spots i'm still worried i'll vote for her 5 times? but if someone said "one vote per artist" it's this. (or maybe my body's made of crushed little stars. shit. tough pick)
And some I didn't nominate, because, that's the CLASSY MOVE
Guayaba - Bye Bich --- daaaaaaaaamn one of the (very) few songs that I hit while shuffling the spotify and went WAIT WHAT? WHAT IS THIS. it is very goodFarrah Abraham - The Sunshine State --- NOBODY TOLD ME SHE IS A SECRET GENIUS? help this is amazingBoards of Canada - .......all of it? ugh how am I supposed to pick from these?

― alrakis morissette (tangenttangent), Tuesday, 12 March 2019 06:05 (six years ago)
From my noms I obviously want to campaign for all of them but I’ll settle for 3 that I’d specially recommend:
Tenorio Jr - Nebulosa
This is from the early 60’s but actually sounds like it is some instrumental hip hop song by nujabes or someone of that ilk. Which is to say it sounds decades ahead of its time. Short piece but every musician in it is so good and the song has such an energetic pace it feels like it’s much longer.
Buddy Holly - Slippin n Slidin (fast version)
This stripped down version is not only my favorite version of the song, it might be my favorite Buddy Holly song. I love his voice in this unadorned state. The whole apartment tapes are really good and better than the overdubs they made with them imho.
Storey Sisters - Bad Motorcycle
Because it’s awesome and deserves a top 20 spot in this poll.

― Mule, Tuesday, 12 March 2019 10:19 (six years ago)
I don't know who nommed Primal Scream - Velocity Girl, but to me, this song really sets a template here:Beautiful pop song starts off with a perfect verse and a perfect chorus, and just as you're settling in to hear them repeated 2 or 3 more times and really luxuriate in the ascending melody and the chiming guitar, the song just ends. It has a more palpable sense of leaving me wanting more than any other song I can think of.

Disregarding the artists that are split between _x_ and _the_x_, it is still pretty strange that Karl didn't update the two bands named incorrectly or remove the last duplicate song, imo.
Some people move fast. They get things done. Some people move slow (e.g. patience makes perfection or a compulsive perfectionist). They don't always get things done but are great at obliterating tiny annoyances.

“Travelling at the Speed of Thought” is my discovery of the poll (so far). I’m excited to spend more time with the rest of the album when I’m not listening to epic playlists of sub-two minute songs.
― Timothée Charalambides (cryptosicko), Wednesday, 13 March 2019 23:28 (six years ago)
Listening all day to this playlist I’ve come to these empirical and hasty conclusions;
- the best “songs” or at least most of the popular songs in here are usually r&b and rock n roll singles from the 50’s and early 60’s. I assume it’s fueled by time constraints on the recording process.
- If segmented into countries, Brazillians and Japanese are often really good at condensing meaningful music into less than two minutes.
- Every punk song that takes longer than 2 minutes to say a message is doing it wrong.
- some of the noms are just forgettable interludes inside good albums.

Small funny postscript on that. When you make a Spotify playlist, Spotify suggests potentially similar songs in case that helps you add stuff. In the case of this playlist, 9 of the 10 suggestions are <1:00 tracks. The one and only longer song is: "Short and Funky" by Too $hort.
― glenn mcdonald, Thursday, 14 March 2019 15:35 (six years ago)

― but i'm there are fuckups (Karl Malone), Saturday, 16 March 2019 16:24 (six years ago)
which makes it one of the fastest growing ballot options on ilx
As of this morning's listening, I currently have a 40-track ballot with 40 distinct artists.* I still have about 1/4 of the Spotify playlist to (hopefully) get through, but I find it encouraging that I won't have much room to repeat artists. There are about 5 artists where making calls on one or even two songs is gonna be a challenge, though.
Speaking of clemenza, btw, I recommend checking out that Odin track he linked (here it is again, to save you some scrolling). Hearing it amidst a bunch of GbV tracks was kinda surreal: it really does sound like something that coulda come off of Alien Lanes some 20 years later.
*Technically, anyway. John Darnielle and Scott Miller appear twice under different band monikers.

I'm trying to listen to the playlist before voting but I'm only about 10% through. not many surprises yet other than I guess I should probably listen to some Buddy Holly because I know nothing about him and I quite liked his songs on this

Minor notes for voters:
Ramones - Lover, Come Back to Me doesn't existBad Boys Brains - F.V.K.F.S.O.L. T.S.O.L. - Abolish Government/Silent MajoritySean Price - One More TryHeavy Vegetable - Heavy Vegetable FiredRobert Fripp - Mary 2:06 too long <Not sure if Karl wants to remove this one
And good news.Here's a playlist of the tracks left off spotify.I was kind of picky with the first 95 songs and how I sequenced them. The next 300 or so songs will be more or less dumped in the playlist over the next 2 or 3 days.

okeydoke, updated nominations list:
https://pastebin.com/PuG4RdvE
i've updated the links to this list in the Google Form/ballot as well.
------------
if a very kind MOD sees this, it would be very kind and in character if you could once again update the three pastebin links in the OP so they point to https://pastebin.com/PuG4RdvE:
the first link is the "link to full list of nominations", near the very top.
the second is "the final list of nominees", just a few lines beneath that.
third link is in the middle: "3) **PLEASE** form your baby ballot by copying and pasting from this full list of nominations: XXXXXXXX";

someone else emailed me about that this morning! i just changed a setting on the Google Form so that submitters can Edit their ballots after voting (previously this setting was turned off, by default). can you try to access your ballot really quick and see if it lets you make a change?

The edit function is on the success page with the 'Now quit your job' message.
I guess if you've closed the window for Google forms since then and got on with yr life/quit yr job, it makes sense that you can't get back to that page without starting over? Otherwise anyone could edit my ballot just knowing my ILX username. (Erm, please don't do that.)

also feel it wld be remiss not to mention this gorgeous track sung by some young kipsigis girls in rural kenya in the 50s who didn't understand that they were being recorded. it's such a treat and has an incredible backstory which kind of melted my brain when I learnt it
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X2AC8pnFpbw
the song is about this half-man half-beast character called chemirocha & dancing and leaping until your clothes fall down, but the kicker is that chemirocha = jimmie rodgers as in, t for texas jimmie rodgers, the fkn yodelling cowboy.
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/jimmie_rodgers.jpg
some of his recordings had circulated in previous years and made enough of a splash that chemirocha started to be used as a more general name for a singer. this was one of three chemirocha songs that was recorded, although the other two aren't nearly so special. some ppl made a documentary tracking down some of the original performers

looks like we're up to 30 ballots!
which is great, but hey lurkers out there or people who don't normally vote in these things - you should vote in this thing! doesn't have to be a full ballot, it can just be 20 of your faves.
even with 30 ballots, i'm a little concerned that since there are so many nominations, there will be a very wide, shallow pool of votes, with lots of ties and songs that only get 2 votes placing high, or whatever. the more ballots we get, the less of a problem that'll be.
― Karl Malone, Friday, 29 March 2019 00:00 (six years ago)

look I'm sorry that I haven't been able to pay any real attention to this poll but I'm afraid you'll have to cancel and start again, this list does not include Babaganouj or Steak & Chips by Smudge
for that matter, the long list probably doesn't have Tea, Toast & Turmoil or Lighten Up Hank or Ugly, Just Like Me or Real McCoy, Wrong Sinatra or Scary Cassettes or Alison Tells Me She's Not Sure That What She's Got's Contagious (the acoustic version is better but not on Bandcamp)
OK I've checked and it doesn't, nor has Tom Morgan's other band been acknowledged with Deaf Girl, Dumb Guy, Blind Love or (Closing Time At The) Tittie Bar or B.U. or I Got A Type or Loud & True or Isle Of Lesbos
or anything at all on theSneeze (41 Songs In 47 Minutes) album orother short songs on their other studio albums

i could be convinced, but it would help to know that their are others out there who could use the extra time.
right now we're sitting at about 35 ballots, which is pretty good. but this is supposed to be the companion poll to lee's 10 minutes+ poll, which had 58 ballots. so it would be nice if we had a comparable number of ballots, especially given that everyone took the time to submit 17 billion nominations. i might go through the nominations thread today and see who nominated a bunch of songs but hasn't voted yet, and then send them a singing telegram informing them to vote or die

― 16 Historic English ILXors You Must Explore Soon (WmC), Saturday, 30 March 2019 19:26 (six years ago)
Voting for no-extension...The longer any poll goes on--or at least the longer it goes on past the moment of peak interest--the more that interest wanes.
― clemenza, Saturday, 30 March 2019 19:42 (six years ago)
More ballots getting submitted means more people with a stake in the results. You trippin clemenza
― plastered in paris (FlopsyDuck), Saturday, 30 March 2019 20:00 (six years ago)
Not at all. Maybe you get 3 or 4 extra ballots, while simultaneously the 35 people who have already voted are steadily losing interest; I know I do, and I bet I'm not the only one.
The deadline was posted three or four weeks ago, with a very sensible suggestion that the fate of the world did not hinge upon the results and that it wasn't necessary to hear every single song before voting.
― clemenza, Saturday, 30 March 2019 20:05 (six years ago)
I expect nothing less than quick voters being impatient and having the ability to lose interest quickly though. I should be jealous of people that have the ability to get real excited about things though.
― plastered in paris (FlopsyDuck), Saturday, 30 March 2019 20:06 (six years ago)
You've convinced me. Let's extend the deadline to July; there are under-2:00 songs being released as we type, and we need to hear those too.
― clemenza, Saturday, 30 March 2019 20:07 (six years ago)
Sorry--general frustration. We go through this with the ILX film poll too, with people wanting to push back the poll until they're able to see everything (so we do it in the summer now). I just find the whole nomination-discussion-results cycle of every ILX/ILM poll takes forever.
― clemenza, Saturday, 30 March 2019 20:11 (six years ago)
Nahh. Keep things the way they are. It doesn't matter to me if I don't submit a ballot since I had fun making that youtube playlist. That’s my baby. Not the results.
― plastered in paris (FlopsyDuck), Saturday, 30 March 2019 20:11 (six years ago)
I have managed to make all 300+ songs transition nicely so far. I have been reuploading youtubes just to make less severe volume change between songs. I have reached a punk/metal/noise block in the playlist and I look forward to syncing those songs together as I finish the playlist.
― plastered in paris (FlopsyDuck), Saturday, 30 March 2019 20:15 (six years ago)
flopsy can you can just submit an unranked ballot of your fave songs from your youtube playlist? or something
― Karl Malone, Saturday, 30 March 2019 20:17 (six years ago)
(xpost) That's it; what you get out of these things, to me, has little or nothing to do with the results or how comprehensive your ballot is. I'm sure your playlist helped lots of people fill in gaps. For me, the fun is in putting my ballot together from what I already know, plus the first couple of weeks of discussion. When the results are posted, I may listen to any high-placing songs I don't know (I'm more inclined to seek out high-placing films I haven't seen).
― clemenza, Saturday, 30 March 2019 20:20 (six years ago)
I can probably hastily throw something together tomorrow. Saturdays are for lying in bed til dinner.
― plastered in paris (FlopsyDuck), Saturday, 30 March 2019 20:20 (six years ago)
Karl, please post the youtube playlist next to the spotify playlist at the top of the results thread. Thanks

I'm just so thankful for the under 30 seconds side poll, because that meant I could cut those from my main ballot and keep them for their own category (though I did really want to see 'You Suffer' in the main poll). Up until now I forgot about the artist side poll, and also failed to write down non-nominated songs as I remembered them, so might only have one for that (it's a definite big one for me personally, though).

just a way to acquire the lists. it just collects i ripped the idea off from the recent 2018 year end polls. but it does let you organize the questions in a certain way, have different sections of the poll and mark some as optional, and then collects everyone's answers in a spreadsheet.

Hey everyone, here’s my rough plan:Rollout on Friday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, about 20-30 per day. Mostly during daytime/working hours (USA) but maybe a few in the early evening as well. I wanted to start today but I didn’t have time to finish up the first batch of images before heading in to work.
― Karl Malone, Thursday, 4 April 2019 13:28 (six years ago)
You'll probably have a slower start in terms of responses as people will be out for the weekend, but I like the sound of a Wednesday climax (ahem).
― emil.y, Thursday, 4 April 2019 15:04 (six years ago)
Yeah, there’s also the option of starting on Monday and finishing on Friday? That would give me time to get more of a head start on the images for the rollout, too. I just didn’t want people to be pissed that it was taking forever to get to the results.
― Karl Malone, Thursday, 4 April 2019 15:16 (six years ago)
End of year polls tend to be Monday to Friday and that seems to work for good engagement/excitement, and it's not been all that long yet! I'd probably vote for Mon-Fri but don't have a massively strong preference.
― emil.y, Thursday, 4 April 2019 15:28 (six years ago)

Really looking forward to this. Most polls I have a pretty good idea what will win, but here I haven’t a clue. Could be a rock ‘n’ roll classic, amphetamine punk or one of a million GBV tracks. Whatever, sure it’ll be super entertaining.
― Dan Worsley, Thursday, 4 April 2019 20:10 (six years ago)

― ILX Loophole Converts Your IRA/401(k) to Physical Gold (WmC), Thursday, 4 April 2019 22:49 (six years ago)
Haven't a clue either. With the long songs, there is sort of a loose canon: "Marquee Moon," "Dark Star," Neil's long ones, Dylan's long ones, etc. I don't know if there's really a famous short song outside of "Her Majesty," and no way that'll win.
― clemenza, Thursday, 4 April 2019 23:52 (six years ago)
Well, I guess there are a handful: "Blitzkrieg Bop," too.
― clemenza, Thursday, 4 April 2019 23:53 (six years ago)
lol what was the Ramones average song length on their first couple of albums?
― rip van wanko, Friday, 5 April 2019 00:04 (six years ago)
There are 15 songs on the first three albums under 2:00--"famous" is a relative term, but outside of Ramones fans (in which case they're all famous), I don't know if I'd count any of them as famous. The two songs from those first three albums I would classify as such, "Blitzkrieg Bop" and "Sheena Is Punk Rocker," both are over 2:00 ("Sheena" almost runs 3:00).
To answer your question: about two minutes?
― clemenza, Friday, 5 April 2019 00:10 (six years ago)
Yah not many canon short songs under 2 mins which will make this rollout all the more weird and good. Hope it’s not just a ton of repeat artists tho.
