Hooray, another Aislers Set fan! and presumably at least a 3rd because I missed the nominations stage, so anything I'm the only voter for was nominated by someone else who didn't vote for it in the end.

I dunno re MB vs MS but both sound like a good night out, though I confess the Monochrome Set have played here at least twice over the past few years and I haven't gone, but I did regret not going last time as apparently they were v good. Melt-Banana I don't think have played here before, or not since the 90s maybe and I've never seen them, so I should really have put the effort in. Oh well...

I have seen both the Monochrome Set and Melt-Banana in the last decade, Melt-Banana more recently but tbh I am a bigger fan of MB. But Melt-Banana is 35 miles away and the Monochrome Set are playing in the town I live in, so convenience may win out

I like Aavikko just fine, but they're a bit too retro for me to rate among the top 50. I was surprised to see them on nom list too, I had no idea people even know them outside Finland.

They're big in the retro-futurist community. A track from 'Back From The Futer' was the Project Moonbase radio show/podcast theme for years.

OK, to stress again, I did not submit a ballot but knowing the results and wishing to right some wrongs, I wish I'd submitted this weighted one. It's not that far off what I might have really submitted, save that I'd have voted Under Construction rather than Miss E… (and not in the top slot). I voted for Sumday instead but Grandaddy fall down an extremely unfortunate credibility gap that they don't deserve to - the canonical narrative has them as too pop to be alt-country, too indie to be pop, too corny to love and too gentle to matter. I still prefer them to the vast majority of their peers

Ariel Pink received a faaair number of hopelessly vote-splitted points innit. If I had a better feel for the relative popularity of his recordings I would definitely have shamelessly strategically voted for The Doldrums rather House Arrest. They were both on my ballot originally and I nommed and voted for one of the former's tracks. All else being equal such a transfer of points would apparently have propelled him to somewhere around #91. A more correct outcome, it can't be denied.

His relentless self-sabotage found its way, spiritually, into the poll results.

relistening to both the Max Tundra albums, amazing that MBGATE placed and Parallax Error didn't

I'm guessing a lot of people just didn't hear the second one?

I haven't listened to it in a long time, but Parallax Error really disappointed me at the time, it seemed to lack the energy of MBGATE. I think there was one track I really liked. I should revisit I guess.

Parallax Error is slightly better I'd say, or at least it has more outright showstoppers

Lacking energy isn't something I'd accuse it of. Listen to Orphaned!

I definitely think Parallax got less attention. I'm not surprised it didn't make the top 100, but I think it's a more focused version of MBGATE
