ILM's 2019 End of Year Tracks & Albums Poll / NOMINATIONS THREAD

As last year the EOY team is moka, forks and me. The nominations process is copied from last year too:

- Nominations are hereby declared open until midnight PST on Friday January 3rd.

- Everyone gets a max of 30 nominations, split as you see fit across tracks and albums. You can nominate 15 albums and 15 tracks, or 29 albums and 1 track, or 0 albums and 30 tracks - you get the idea.

- Please make sure it's obvious which nominations are tracks and which are albums.

- Always use the order "Artist - Track"/"Artist - Album", never put the artist second. It's hard enough to filter out duplicates as it is.

- Ctrl+F through the thread before nominating, or check the spreadsheets:

Reissue of material that very few people heard first time round (private press, bootlegs, etc): probably eligible
Reissue of material that was previously widely available: not eligible

"Trust In Rock" is I think in the second category? I certainly had mp3s of some of the material from somewhere I can't remember. I'm mostly fine with including this kind of thing, if enough people think of it as a 2019 release it will get support and if not it won't.

Yeah, I agree it's probably her best so far. It feels like doing a whole album solo has made her reign in her most excessive fusion indulgencies (though I do enjoy those too, tbh), so it feels very well rounded and just full of joy.

Hmm...I don't think we've had this before. My instinct is to disqualify - almost our only strict eligibility rule is that if an album/track makes the Top 77 in one year it can't be nominated in following years, and our treatment of remixes supports treating them as "the same" as the originals. Unless there's some mitigating factor?

I'd say it should be case-by-case, as some remixes really are very different to the original track, and some totally blow up in their own right, but if it's just a case of changing up the BPM or putting a donk on it then disqualify.

I do enjoy the immersive nature of Kali Malone's album, though I can def understand it being a bit dull (personally I think dull doesn't have to mean 'not good'). But that Zachary Paul album sounds good, will check it out!

Agreed on the 'dull not equalling bad' thing. The Kali album is just a bit flat and texturally and thematically uninteresting.

Hmm...I don't think we've had this before. My instinct is to disqualify - almost our only strict eligibility rule is that if an album/track makes the Top 77 in one year it can't be nominated in following years, and our treatment of remixes supports treating them as "the same" as the originals. Unless there's some mitigating factor?

Disqualifying remixes on this basis would be ridiculous, since they're often released a long time after the remixed track. I and someone else nominated a couple of remixes of tracks from Deena Abdelwahed's 2018 album, since the remixes came out in 2019. If I really like those remixes and consider them to be among the best tracks of 2019, what should I do? Travel back in time to January 2019 (when they hadn't come out yet) and nominate them for the 2018 poll?

Then again, the rule of collating votes for a tune and its remixes has always been ridiculous too, because A) the remix is often a very different entity, and B) it allows some songs to artificially rise up the chart, as in theory it can get twice as much votes on the basis of counting the remix votes for the original song.
