I have this as a 2016 remaster by Vangelis himself. I'm assuming its pretty authentic to the original but it has some textures I would associate with later eras. THis veers from stomping almost industrial sounding glammy stuff to atmospheric near ambient stuff.
Enjoying what I'm hearing haven't really dedicated much time to it yet since its one of 3 discs on a 3 changer.
There's a cameo vocal from a voice I recognise from earlier Aphrodites Child in a couple of places that I would have assumed was Demis Roussos earlier but is it the guitarist who is on this
Anyway quite enjoying this need to get more familiar with it and some of my opinions may alter with familiarity.
It's quite cheap on Dodax at the moment, not sure if that's standard price for it.

Avant garagey post punk band from Georgia featuring Don Fleming and Bruce joyner.
THis was recorded in 1978 so is ahead of the curve I think. This cd version is augmented by a contemporary live set and some demoes.
Shows the influence of theh Velvets in the same way that the early Modern lovers did and I think some of their other influences.
Vocals may be naively poppy too.
reminds me heavily of Michael Yonkers Microminiature Love and the chunkiness of the first 13FE lp

Been meaning to pick this up since it came out, the 3cd summary of a series of shows teh Dead played in a region overa couple of years in the early 70s. So far I've only listened to disc 2 which has a 3/4 hrPLaying IN The Band and a shorter Eyes of The World.
I think the differentiation between 73 and before is in the way the music seems to be bubbled by the bass and maybe its not as thoroughly psychedelic as it was in earlier years more jazz as rock than thoroughly lysergic. Still pretty exploratory and questing.
I like all of the pre-retirement years I think , though probably slightly less 71 than other years. & this is still pretty great.
Then like the return stuff a deal less, don't like disco Dead do like them again around 80 and a bit less afterwards. They're doing something else later on which may be more roots related but to me the early years are what teh band are about and since I'm not going to see a live version of teh band again I might as well concentrate on the era I like the best.

LIve sets by Finnish band from the time of their lp Lambertland . Exploring the material I think just pre-release.
More angular and less thoroughly freeflowing than someone like the Dead still pretty improvisatory.
Been trying to pick up the 50th anniversary sets by the band who I'd heard of a long time before exploring.
Really like the material anyway.

Found this in a pile of cds at the end of my bed and I don't think I've really become familiar with it up til now. Another good volumne of Ethiopiques. Do enjoy most of the series I've heard I think this and the Zanzibar companion series.

I think I at least had that David S Ware a couple of decades ago. Must take some time this year and see what cds I bought when I lived in Dublin are still here and what still play. Is cd rot still a thing cos people were talking about it a couple of decades ago. Did manufacture change.

Anyway I recognise the cover and was having purchases shaped by reading various alternative press at the time Wire,Forcedexposure, Puncture and a few others. But really should have kept a database of what I had and lost over the years.

Do have a couple of box sets of Ribeiro releases which are mainly good. There was a French one had the early releases in a too quiet master from what I remember and a better one that went up to about 79 that I need to relishes to.
Also some pretty interesting live sets circulating on torrent sites from I think 71 and 72.

recently released compilation of Ethiopian funk . Great fuzz guitars and stuff.
UNfortunately nop liner notes. So I need to see if the label will sell me a set o fthe liners for the 12" vinyl versions. I'm assuming taht is the problem here for some reason looks like the complete set on vinyl gets a linernote booklet but the cd doesn't and I thin the same is true for the individual sets not sure why they couldn't make a 5" set of teh lnernotes too.

I bought the originak album series of Mountain lps when I heard that Leslie West had died over Xmas. Not sure why I hadn't picked up on them before. Have picked up on West's earlier band The Vagrants.
Listening to this over the last few days shows me more nuance than I first thought but still not sure how good the sound on this is .
NIce heavy stuff but now hearing other dimensions to it.

free cd with the book on the Third Ear Band that came out recently . it claims to be the Unreleased lp The Dragon Wakes sounds like the band from different times though and some bits with a great sense of groove. I thought I got a version of the Dragon Wakes with the Esoteric version of the 2nd lp as Elements. Anyway some great semi hypnotic music that I'm glad to have./
THis unreleased lp has more electric input than I was expecting.

Day of Phoenix really reminded me of the sound of Mad River on their first lp. Not sure if 2nd lp is anywhere near as good. Esoteric paired the 2 recently.

Dodgy cultural appropriating sleeve masks a pretty decent Italian prog lp . I heard soe bits of this on Spotify and enjoyed the squalling guitar which reminded me of Ray Russel's in Running Man.
THink this is pretty great and apparently it does get a lot of recognition among fans of the genre. Not really sure why it's taken me so long to discover this. Have been semi aware of it for a couple of decades but not really heard it until I started looking through Italian prog stuff this year and hearing tracks on Spotify. Does occur to me that at one point in the early 00ies I had a habit of d/ding stacks of MP3s so do now wonder if I heard any of it then. Glad to find it now anyway. It's in a digipak paper sleeve from BTF.it who I bought it from.

Quite impressive hard rockking compilation of material by the band evolved out of the Pleasure Seekers the Quatro sisters earlier 60s band.
I think this is the Sundazed release of an earlier set that had been cdr only and released by a smaller label. This was last year's record store day release. I had been interested in teh cdr version a few years ago but i think it had been put on a backburner because of price or availability. So really glad to have it . I think it stands up to repeated listens. Not sure what competition they had as all female rockers at the time, Ace of Cups were around San Francisco is as far as I can think right at this moment, might be different at other times. Fanny are a little later.
I think I might look into getting that Pleasure Seekers companion release on the strength of this and possibly some of Suzi's 70s stuff.

I love the swirling guitars which i think are by Jonah Sithole who was trying to translate the influence of the mbira to the guitar. Not sure if this is him I'm not really seeing credits for players on here. But really nice stuff and i think i need more by him.
I remember reading about Mapfumo in the music press in the early to mid 80s so really should have checked him out way before this. What turned me onto him recently is a Zoom webinar on the mbira that happened a few weeks ago.
There are several mbira in the mix here alongside the guitar on all tracks too

re: the mad river s/t... my copy looks like a post-2000 reissue, but no idea if it's the "corrected" version or not. think i may be alone in preferring the follow-up lp: their particular brand of acid fried pysch is still present, but leavened with country/folk elements.

Great return lp by the visceral rocker, here backed by a more consciously funky band than at his 50s peak. He still has the fireball vocal impact of those days but music's impact has changed. They are really infectious in teh hips etc which is probably what the players on teh Speialty stuff were also going for come to think of things. Dang funky anyway.
LOve thsi lp and it has me looking around at what other Southern soul/funk has a similar impact.
I have this on the BGO 3lps on 2cds set which means its followed up by the King of Rock & Roll which I think works less well. That's interspersed by skit like carnival huckster like outbursts by Richard. Maybe it will grow on me but I think it has cheesier covers even if the playing is actually as good when it's allowed to bubble fully.
I might get the recent reissue of this on Omnivore which has bonus tracks and better more specific liner notes still. Fantastic record, I need to hear The Second Coning the 3rd lp on this set yet.

slowly working through the 3 discs of this . Playing one disc per week on my 3 changer as I leave another 2 on until I'm used to tehm too.
THIs is the 3rd disc this week or this week I'm playing disc 3. That's got a run from He's gone through Trucking an 18 minute Other One Wharf Rat and Sugar Magnolia from one night in 1973 but disc starts with something from 74.
Do like them in 73 and 74 apart from when they added horns which I may need to revisit but couldn't connect with.
For saome reason I connect 73 wiuthg e colour green and 74 with a creamy yel;low. Not sure why.
BUt cool stuff I love twhge way the indivbidual instruments come together to build a soundscape and fun stuff like that. I remember studying phenomenology in Philosophy at University 20 years ago and thinking about these and Neubauten in therms of taht. the way that instruments come together to make a landscape in sound. Acknowledgment of what does constitute a melody/tune whatever.

managed to get a copy of teh box set from a Spanish seller on discogs after having been let down over a copy i was upposed to be getting for Xmas. Xmas copy got replaced by a copy of the Meters box set which I'm also playing this week./
I think it's disc 4 of this I have on this week that's various demoes, peel session tracks and 2 from the 2018 Cafe Oto show which i should have got to. I thought this would have the whole reunion gig which I at least assume was a bit longer.
Some nice floaty folky stuff with some great guitar and bass and stuff. Celia Humphries had a great voice. Sorry to hear she died recently

Great stuff. Pretty superlative. This lp had the band start to feature some vocal tracks among the instrumentals.
New orleans funky stuff that should be taught in school or wherever it would at least feature in everybody's awareness. Not sure if everybody knowing about it would devalue it and foster the appearance of a load of watered down versions though which would be counterproductive.

abyssinians is the one pre-nineties tabor release i've never heard! the on air collection works as a nice overview of what she was doing up to getting together with the oyster band for the first time... worth it just for the white rabbit cover where they get a nice vu-ish scrape & clatter going on. hopefully someone puts out an expanded radio sessions set some day.

bright phoebus is necessary in any iteration imo, but the domino reissue was beautifully done.

NOt sure how much this is connecting with me. It's semi interesting jazz-rock stuff not exactly transcendental krautrock as I might have hoped.
It might grow on me a bit. Does have its moments but just not grabbing me. I thought the lead off track which is based inNOrth African/MIddle Eastern stuff but still doesn't really engage fully, just seems to come out of some semi authentic sounding suff. maybe that is them too though.
Ah well, will give it another while.

3rd disc of this, which is remixes and short extensions of some previously released stuff . Need to have another look into what went into that.
Anyway do love the guitar on here which is incredible. Tension and release and things . Trying to think what other guitar does this in quite the same way and do wonder who has picked up specifically from this influence cos I think the psychedelic music they play together is really something else too. Great band, would like to know when the band first started getting the recognition they deserved since tehy didn't sell well at the time things were coming out. & as per usual with bands I really like I wonder what would have happened if they had stuck together in a pretty similar line up or is it inevitable that they would have just changed from what I like about them here.

I'm wondering if there is a problem on the production on the release on that Embryo cd. It sounds distant and a biit quiet.
Could be that a different release version of that lp would connect a lot faster. I'm hearing bits I really like but it just doesn't seem to be as fully present as I'd want it to be.
That's the officially released copy protected Universal version. Wonder if that is a feeling constant with those, which would be a shame.

This Jim Hall album from '75 is really, really good. Amazing sound and production. "Concierto de Aranjuez" is just a beautiful piece of music. Miles and Gil Evans said the softer you play the main melody, the stronger it sounds. The tone of Chet Baker and Paul Desmond playing that line is just an emotional dagger. Easily the best recording/track I have heard for the first time in a couple of years. The front half of the record is very good, but the title track I think is awesome.

Reunion lp by Brighton based indie band. It doesn't have the same continually refractive echoplexed guitar textures taht I loved about Euphoria, I t does continue with the singers intensely personal lyrics and delivery.
I have it on my 3 changer and I think it has so happened that I haven't had it turn up as consciously as the other 2 discs on there. So I'm not as familiar with it after a week. Don't think I like it as much as Euphoria but it's ok.

Eastern tinged kraut jamming. Nice angular but fluid take on rock , I enjoy the textures in the playing.
I think I found some live stuff from them a few years ago that I was really into. Not sure why it took so long to get a physical copy of the music though. This came as part of a 2disc set of the 1st 2 lps. Not heard teh 2nd one yet, have heard teh Eastern tinge has gone. THis 1st disc has the lp followed by an almost complete set of demoes for the tracks on it. & I've been listening through it all in one sitting that hasn't seemed like overkill.

THis is the box set still which for some reason has the first half of Rejuvenation on a disc with Cabbage Alley. I think Rejuvenation seems to be seen as about their best lp so you would think it might have been kept separate. But the box is 6 discs as it is.
Still splitting it seems a weird decision.
I think I'm more conscious of the tracks on Cabbage Alley which are pretty great. Some of teh tracks feature some pretty wildly heavy guitar though not sure it does tap straight into the same place as conscioulsy heavy rock bands did. maybe its coming straight from the source instead of being a recontextualised thing. BUT as per the first 2 discs this is superlative. One of the better sets I've picked up recently so glad i chose it to replace the Trees box that wasn't about to appear. Great Birthday present.

2nd disc of this comprehensive set of teh 60s recordings . Pretty superlative. What a voice and nice accompaniment of things like fuzz guitar and stuff.
Some great songs too.
Do wonder how much of this turned up in beat etc covers and was thought to be innovative in the white bands arrangements. Cos it does sound like it should have been recognised as pretty new in teh originals.
NOt heard either other disc yet. So something to look forward to. Though Ugly Things review wasn't overly positive, hope that was just something deeply subjective.

1971 lp by Wilson Pickett sees him backed by Muscle Shoals band. Which is odd because some of teh tracks on here verge on disco which is further odd since this is about 3 years or more before that sound really popularised.
Some of this is really really funky but some just seems to get into machine repetition or something. I don't get it, maaybe need to co0mpare with an original release of the lp or something
I have this as a 2cd with the lp before In Philadelphia where the producers are Gamble & Huff before their popularity really took off.
It has some really good bonus material on where Wilson appears to be revisiting his gospel roots turning some tracks into near spoken word sermon like.
I was intrigued by what other artists better known for earlier musical styles were doing at the turn of the 70s after hearing the Little Richard lp the Rill Thing and being reminded of teh Al Green Gets Next To You lp by a thread that appeared here. So wanted to check out Wilson and some of this si good and some of it I wish was better. The In Philadelphia lp is quite great.

Spirit of Love is quite good but I think that is much better. there's a live set from 72 circulating taht i think covers several of the songs from here too.
& it was apparently what lead richard Morton Jack to launch Sunbeam since Radioactive were refusing to treat the band with due respect, pay royalties and all the respectful things one tries to get done if one is legitimately reissuing an lp/cd. So RMJ launched the label and took care of things like that, but I think they remained under the same umbrealla group as Radioactive for a while.
THere has been some great stuff out on Sunbeam since then though and the Flashback! magazines were good in depth reads. Quite heavy for mailorder delivery though.

I saw this trio live on a link from the local University's feed the week before Paddy's day. Would have been something I would have been physicially atif there wasn't a pandemic on.
I found them quite transcendental in places. on the live set. I wasn't really aware of tehm beforehand and wasn't aware taht tehir studio releases were fro the 00ies . Anyway wound up ordering this off discogs while I was watching the live set. I think the lp is also really good, it's mainly trad stuff but I can hear some other things in there, at least one track reminded me of teh hot 5s of Stephane Grapelli fame and the accordian can touch o the hypnotic.
So very glad i got this cos it is pretty beautiful. I think there's at least one other lp by them taht I might look into getting.

Looking for more great stuff along these lines fro this time. Just been listening to a few different soul/r'n'r artists around thsi time reinventing themselves i good updated gritty r'n'b/soul styles and trying to find what the best of it is.
I may still be more associating sould with what people are doing mid 60s while I have heard some later stuff and funk and other things on teh same spectrum so really interested in this update/development of the sound.

Anyway this is great stuff. I think Abbey IS Blue is the better so wish I could get a 3 changer to swing around to that as the first thing .
Really loved teh tv perfromance of Freedom Now Suite which I came across years, possibly decades ago. Now just thinking that I may have seen this on tv in the 80s not just d/lded it in th e00is but not sure. But hadn't looked into the solo material by her.
Now have the 4 lps on this set and teh People In Me from the early 70s with half of Miles Davis's touring band on and Miles himself partially directing or helping direct. Nt heard taht yet. Keeping cds on for several days so I get used to them.
Anyway vocal jazz lps with great jazz vocals over jazz like. THis does seem to have long sections without her that are pretty good on their own but I guess are mainly there in supporting role. Band features Max Roach who she married sometime around then.
Abbey is Blue is heavily recommended. Nt sure of best way to buy it though, but this was a cheap way of doing it.

heavily stripped back dubbed out radical funk stuff. Not sure what music opn here is original and what dubbed frm elsewhere. Has prominent sax in places and some hints of melody but mainly has breakbeaty stuff with Stewart's great voice over the top.
The next lp has Stewart singing in front of a bunch of ex Sugarhill backing band types. Think I need to get that.

finally worked my way around to the first disc here. various dates from 73 and 74.
& sitting in bed reading and hearing this this morning had me able to just about work out what each player was doing which i'm not sure I've been able to do elsewhere.
& that's pretty amazing. Interaction between people who play the music somewhat differently each night but I was left wondering how differently. But I guess that's the way you disappear down the rabbit hole.
Pretty great versions of China Cat/Rider and Bird Song here and I don't think the others drag.

Stevolende - that Dead compilation is fantastic, but I'm a huge fan of '73 and '74 Dead. Curious to know what you think of the 46 minute "Playing in the Band" on disc two.

I have the big box set from which that comp is pulled, it's all fantastic. My only complaint about the distilled compilation is that it misses one of my other favorite big jams from the box, the "Dark Star" from 6/24/73.

Not sure what of the recordings I already had. Do have a pretty massive folder of various Dead related stuff on a hard drive i no longer have connected to my computer.
I don't think I quite had the same reaction to the other discs as i had to this disc1 but may have been what else I was doing at the time so may well revisit with some frequency. Probably just coincided with me wanting to lie in bed reading and therefore had the time to sink in this disc. PLus it is bloomin sublime.

I know I like 74 and & 73 Dead and have colours i experience in tandem with the years. I think 73 is a green and 74 a creamy yellow.
Also noticing something that seems to bubble through 74 that isn't as prominent in 73. Not sure if taht would have anything to do with the amplification which I thought was the big new factor in 74. Though sounds like lesh has picked up new aspects of his technique.
Like 72 too .
& 68-70, not so much 71. THink they're less openly improvisatory that year.

Very nice set anyway. Captured in a studio in japan hence the players on it including the Miles Davis band who happened to be playing live there at teh time.

The new compilation of all of the mid 60s material by the great psychedelic band originally from California who John Peel was instrumental in getting to move to London. So far I've listened to the first disc which is the LOndon era material with new English guitarist Tony Hill . He was later shown to be pretty incredible when he moved onto High Tide, here he may be slightly overshadowed by Glenn campbell on pedal steel in fact seems like all of teh band is pretty masterful. I love the drum sound on a lot of this.
Pretty essential psychedelic stuff.
NOt heard the 2nd disc which is their Riverside era yet. I think this set is largely mono since the earlier Edsel set was i fake stereo .
It also contains a summary of Mike Stax's lengthy band history which appeared across several issues of Ugly Things a few years ago as teh linernotes.

THe 3rd and most electronic drenched lp by the Herbie Hancock led band. I haven't listened to this as intently as I did this week. & this was teh 2nd copy of the disc i had bought as part of a 3cd set of Herbie's mid 70s stuff.
I just read Bob Gluck's book on the band, You'll Know When You Get There which was a really good read. I have all 3 lps on cd, couldn't find teh previous 2 last week but need to really listen to those too.
BUT thgis is really something else electronic input makes it really psychedelic . Or at least contributes even more to it. THe bands interaction particularly on the longest track here Hornets is quite amazing too. Very trippy.
Shame they couldn't continue to build on what tehy were getting to. BUt glad we've got these 3 and the live stuff including a few video clips from live sets on tv. I thik that stuff is not as electronically drenched as this though since its from theh couple of years before. So a bit less Patrick Gleason who became increasingly integrated over teh years as did the sound guy who was treating instruments as tehy played and stuff.

THe 3rd 13FE lp. Put together by guitarist Stacy Sutherland after Roky was already facing being committed to a menatl asylum. So Roky is onoly on a few tracks here and if the other voice is Stacy's he's not tbad, not as recognisable and characterful a voice as Roky's but not a non selling point. The feeling here is pretty different to the other 2 lps, not as forceful or something, not that those 2 sounded homogenous themselves.
I think if this wasn't an lp by a band taht had already put out 2 classics of the genre this might get a lot more recognition. I'm just rediscovering this after it was possibly the first lp by them taht I had bought, I think it had been seen as eclectic by somebody in the weekly music media in the early 80s which had me interested. May have been more impressed by things like taht at the time. BUt I do think it is a great lp. Here its augmented by some alternative versions of a few of the tracks on it which is weird I've been listening to it at times when I've been otherwise occupied and thinking I thought the lp itself had ended a while back as I'd heard May The Circle Remain Unbroken a few minutes ago or something. I have it on a 3 changer which I've restarted a few times as I'm trying to do things around teh room too. But yeah weird ma just me being distracted and songs are more different lp to bonus version .
Anyway this really shows Stacy's guitar quite well and has some really other sounding tunes on it. LOve it deeply. Even the horns sort of semi fit add some element of dimension. Sound is not as full as the other 2 lps because of limited budget given to the band.
Oh well you either know the lp or you should.

Free jazz drummer as leader but also possibly least audible member. Quite forceful droning blasts of music. I really enjoy it and should probably have discovered it a number of years ago when this Sunspots version came out if not before.

Turn of teh 70s Soul/funk lp which i got as a 2fer with its follow up.
Put out on the Invicta label by Holland Dozier and Holland after they left Motown.
Starts off quite strong but I'm seeing comment about the 2nd side dragging which is certainly true of the lyricism. Not exactly woke.
Haven't sat and listened to the other disc yet to any extent.

Jamal came up *to us* after and thanked us for being so into it and gave me his card and said we should email him and he'd send us a bunch of stuff. Lost the card, as we were living out of a converted U-Haul at the time and my life was very messy. But yeah, he's a lovely person.

New Josh Abrams' NIS w/ Evan Parker def has a more consistently upbeat tempo than the courtlier trance of Mandatory Reality--could be a bit of a reach, but the sustained energy of the group playing at a higher tempo might be comparable to dancing to an extended set of some A1 techno or house

Really enjoying this so may get some more. I think these Essential sets can be really good, seem to be compiled by people with some idea of how to summarise large catalogues but still bound to be missing so much. This 2cd concentrates on the 20s and 30s, mainly the latter. Only seems to go beyond that for something like the last 5 tracks on cd 2.
I've mainly listened to disc 1 and that after having had it sitting on a shelf for a few years. Wish i could play guitar so I could learn some of these horn lines.
& wonder if I am hearing this mainly from the perspective of what I could pilch. Though whole thing seems to be really great. Also conscious that I am hearing it from a perspective so many decades later after hearing a lot of teh music that came after., So will never hear things as they were first heard.
Louis Armstrong wasa great innovator in his early days, probably much later too though it seems to have been eclipsed by him being a great entertainer. It still stands as great music this much later . NOt sure how universally, hope mostly anyway. So now got to find out what has been left out by the summarising nature of the format. & will probably find out that so much was left out by the constriants of the format back when it was recorded too. 3 minute snippets of what would presumably have gone a biut longer when played live. NOt sure people like dancing in 3 minute bursts and things, which was supposed to be something of a reason why the San Francisco bands of teh late 60s started stretching songs out. So the dancers could keep the groove, like.

Viv Stanshall, ex Bonzo frontman's mid 70s Afro influenced prog rock lp. Really been getting into this so shouldn't have been ignoring it for so long. It got reissued about 10 years ago and I think I did like it quite a bit when I got it. It has ome great guitar and stuff on it, it is also very bawdy, verging on the puerile in places though.
Music is really great. Would have been good to get some more music orientated lps by him around the time. I think his other 70s stuff is more spoken word orientated though isn't it?

ITalian prog lp from 1973. I think i didn't pay enough attention to this when i picked it up towards the end of last year.
Blends the usual range of musics for Italian prog from the time folk, classical, jazz and rock.,
Has biuts that sound seriously symphonic interjected with some really good angular guitar playing. IT feelps pretty intense in places, doesn't quite sustain to the level of Ys but still remains pretty interesting throughout.
THis is growing on me a lot more tahn i thought at the time i got it, don't think I thought it was naff when i got it anyway. So not sure how frequently this will return to my player but it is quite enjoyable when it does.
Maybe its not exactly immediate. But I like it enough.

Japanese psych-prog band from the early 70s.
Can hear some really nice West Coast US influences in the sound, echoes of the Doors among others. Does get pretty noisy in places and rather smooth in others but pretty sublime over all.
Do like the guitar quite a bit.
Can't really say I can hear the Pink Floyd comparisons I'm seeing people elsewhere making.BUt glad I finally got hold of a copy of this , think I may have had some MP3s of it years ago. Dodax had it pretty cheap and i think that wasa version that has rising prices elsewhere.
NOt 100% sure getting your ginat sloths to smoke is a good idea . Also jus might be a bit taxing on an elephant's trunk to behave like that, just saying like.

Ruth Copelkand great voce on a Northern English folkie, here backed by various members of Funkadelic. Sound reproduction may be a biit muffled seems quieter tahn the other discs on the 3 changer.
BUt interesting stuff . I have it on a 2cd set with her frist solo lp which seems to be more MOR orientated.
Somewhat interestng, can't say how much I'm going to revisit it.
So strong female vox over rock oriented playing. Some scorching leads. Not sure to what extent they sound like the band they normally play with thought that would be an inherent quality.
LP sounds somewhat of its time. may grow on me.

Anita Lane australian singer with Birthday party ties. THis si a compilation of a mini lp and an e.p. p[lus pone track backed by the Birthday Party. Also one backed by DIe Haut but most of the instruments on the set are played by MIck Harvey.
Quite sublime in places, shame she didn't record more. I found out there is a solo lp from the early 00ies too which I may have to get. PLus she's on Harvey';s the Intoxicated Man which I think I may have somewhere.
Sorry to hear that she died alst week. I'm just reading about her getting together with Nick cave in the early days of the Boys Next Door in Mark Mordue's Boy On Fire.

Sunny Murray legendary free jazz drummer. This is the 2nd one of his taht I've picked up and I really like it. Some spoken word over free jazz drone though somewhat intermittent, more music than vocals .
Do wish I'd found this earlier. Cos I do think it is pretty dang great.

The one place I'm aware of them going out of Dark Star into The Other One and then back again that I can remember, though just realising taht Dick's Picks vol 4 presumably had a Dark Star go into an Other One in May of 70 but its presented on 2 different discs. I thought they tended to play the 2 songs either on alternative nights or alternative sets atleast.
Anyway some nice trippy jamming on this one disc. have been told that teh first disc is pretty sloppy.
& looking in the cd box I finid a copy of Modey lemon's lp where disc 3 out to be. Not sure where and when the last time i looked in this was so not sure if this disc is somewhere in the flat somewhere or left at somebody's place years ago. ho hum. I don't remember having a Modey lemon lp, could find it is a great thing . It's the Curious City if that means anything.
Hope i do have tht thur 69 Dead somewhere though.

Super Mazembe Orchestra. I think these were Congolese ex pats who formed in Nairobi, Kenya. Some great great highlife/Benga guitar on here. Would love to learn to play some of this stuff.
Also would like to hear some of this stuff used asan influence in rock, not sure where taht's hgappened outside of Vampire Weekend. Would certainly meld well with Television influences etc.

Cabaret Voltaire's last record asa 3 piece i think. Bought this a few years ago when it was reissued on Vinyl and had a free cd version included. Do love them a lot more as a 3 piece with Chris Watson on guitar. Not so hot on the 2 poiece though i did enjoy some of their later solo stuff.
Chris Watson is doing a talk online in a week or so. Think that might have more to do with his later solo environmental sound recordings though.
Anyway do love me some 3 piece Cabs.
