So the Carly Rae Jepsen + Bullion track wasn’t as good as thought would be, still excited for his upcoming album.
Submitting Mk.Gee - Dream Police instead, which actually could pass for the sort of ghosted, slightly psychedelic sophistipop Bullion does.

Haha the tune on that Allie X feels like a kind of homage to "Don't Go" by Yaz(oo)! And even shares a bit about getting/calling the doctor.

This is an album I'm really looking forward to - new Clarissa Connelly coming in April on Warp Records. She's a Danish musician and perhaps is something like a medievalist version of ML Buch. Her last album (The Voyager, 2020) is well worth checking back on if you missed that, but this is the latest track to drop from the new one:

Loving this one too - think they're an Australian producer, this is kind of somewhere between underworld and Saint etienne, so in the Real Lies ballpark I guess? Anyway, dreamy vocal dance stuff, bodes well for her album....

Moka, you might like this new single from the Marias, a group from LA maybe best known for featuring on Bad Bunny's Un Verano Sin Ti:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9NOlqJHvAZo
Previous releases have had a woozy sound reminiscent of Men I Trust and other Gorilla vs Bear shambhala but this song is a little more direct (it reminds me somewhat of the French discopop band L'Impératrice, who incidentally also released a new song last week)

apparently this is AI generated - Guys what is wrong with my cat? It's on spotify as well, with the artist credited as AnotherLaughingMan. I think a lot of the AI generated art that I like takes as its subject matter limitations in understanding or an unbridgeable gap between different ways of perceiving the world, makes the fact that it always sounds slightly 'off' into a virtue?

was skeptical when pitchfork gave the new empress of album best new music, since i had heard literally nothing about it until then, but yeah, it hits. faves are "cura" and "facil," warped, ethereal club anthems both, with "cura" borrowing a bit from jersey and "facil" with stuttering, chopped up dembow drums
"cura"https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RsdDwNkiVz0

welp imo they put the best tracks out as pre-release songs, but it doesn't matter because the chanel beads album still delivers. very hazy, pleasantly druggy vibe. weird songs... they'll have these huge choruses, but it'll only hit once during the song's runtime. kind of that wire pink flag ethos of "you get the idea so we'll just stop here." short album too; 9 songs, 28 mins. very solid 4 mics.

as for me, i had some other stuff i wanted to share in here but lol okay kaya-https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XyRPFlR9ozY"the groke"
now i haven't kept up with her since the second album so i am entirely unsure if this is an intentional joke or what.
but guys, lol this jams.
90s revival continues and okay kaya has wandered into that 120 minutes-curated sound of allegorical triphop-soundtracked worlds originally pointed+laughed at by heroes like luscious jackson or the "my woman" bloke. i intentionally did not post the proper music video for two reasons: it's full of, uhm, weird imagery and it's possibly nsfw. so yeah.

Didn’t know Brijean had a new album out. Have liked what they’ve done in the past. This sounds great.

For grab-bag indie pop/rock I really like the new This Is Lorelei album. This is one of the singles, “I’m All Fucked Up.”

Brand new Young Marco business on Music From Memory, lovely ambient pop stuff with John Moods under the name Dead Sound, much closer to his work with Gigi Masin than that stuff he's been doing on the festival circuit...

Cool find! Liked almost everything I’ve heard from John Moods. Had no idea he had another project.

i wanted to post the brand new temani hill in here but don't wanna seem too spammy. she's really got some momentum though, i like it even more than "you & i"!
mostly wanted to post because there's a new mk.gee single and i like it, but mostly because it sounds like hejira―https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=urjCv8-GoVsmk.gee ― "lonely fight"i think the album had better highlights, but i also can't say no to joniwave.

So this is apparantly 'dangdut', traditional but still very popular South Asian music, so named because the drums sound like they say dang dut. But a dangdut/hiphop hybrid, which sounds like k-pop at it's most awesome. Absolutely obsessed with it.

Love it! My kids say it's very popular on TikTok. And, it's 5 years old so doesn't really belong here. But still, love it.
― ArchCarrier, Thursday, 12 September 2024 14:48 (eleven months ago)
Oh, lol, a TIKTOK hit. So that's why it's played on Danish radio all of a sudden :)
Yeah, not 2024, but great song!
― Frederik B, Friday, 13 September 2024 09:13 (eleven months ago)
Cool song. Should I add it considering year of impact?
Adding “FKA Twigs - Eusexua” can’t get enough of it. I’ve listened to it like 15 times since it came out yesterday.

really late on this but figure I would jump in anyway. Small but crucial difference: "Paijo" is Southeast Asian not South Asian, specifically Indonesian. And it's not actually traditional music, but pop music borrowing from classical Malay/Indonesian traditions plus a mix of Bollywood/Hindi and Western music. It's very popular but generally seen as pretty cringey/tacky, usually characterised by cheap synths, skimpy outfits and cheesy dance moves.
I mean, "Paijo" is a cool track but it's very much a modernised version of dangdut and an outlier imo. This is a remake of a classic dangdut track from a few years ago and it's much closer to what mainstream dangdut looks/sounds like:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dy9K9vFYfZ0
anyway, this has been part of a trend this year of Southeast Asian pop going viral on TikTok. See also Budots from the Philippines, which got Filipino-American Olivia Rodrigo joining in:

added!
Adding a song from GOAT. They describe themselves as influenced by afrobeat, heavy metal, anatolian funk and biker rock. It sounds like Sault with a more heavy psych thing going. Two singles so far... can't decide which one I like better. I'm adding Ouroboros to the playlist but here's both:

Yeah, thanks for the correction, Roz! South East, not South, and just all around bad of me not to mention it's from Indonesia.

I had initially archived this as too cheesy and derivative, too light, but just came on again and... I'll admit I love it

Why does it sound so familiar? Those “doo doo doo” sound like something I had already heard somewhere else. Is it a remix or remake or another thing?
Yeah it’s a bit corny but I like it a lot.

Found this little obscure gem today. Not sure which song to pick from it as the full album flows like a dream/nightmare. I'll pick the most normal sounding song in here but it isn't really representative of the rest of the album:
Michel Banabila - Little Starhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zS1Zwmnm_l4
from his bandcamp:"Banabila returns with a second LP release on Knekelhuis. The renowned Dutch producer is up there among the stars when it comes to ambient music and the so-called ‘fourth world’ legacy. On this eleven-track album, we witness soul-wrenching, kraut-tinted, and early-yet-modernist electronics.
Coming from his heart, these imaginative recordings center around otherworldly voices – fictional characters chanting in a made-up language, imbued with a captivating spirit, transcending linguistic barriers. Through remarkable complexity and technique, 'Unspeakable Visions' is full of sonic textures, together evoking a layered, emotional arc."

On ilm? The album gives me the same sort of vibes as Fridge’s Happiness which is an album I overplayed in my early 20s.
Also this song in particular reminds me a lot of Nuno Canavarro’s Plux Quba which is one of my favorite 80’s albums.

Oh! Need to check the rest of the albums on the lists that mention it. Karl’s list has a couple of albums I also liked. Happy there seems to be a consensus on it being good around here! It took me surprisez it was late and I was feeling sleepy while listening and it perked my ears right away.
