Just got answers back from an email interview with the vocalist from Human Barbecue, a cannibalism-obsessed brutal/slam band from Belgium. The interview will run in Burning Ambulance in February. Gotta say, his first answer made me feel pretty fucking old...

How did you first get interested in this style of metal? Can you remember the first records that inspired you to want to make this kind of music yourself?
My dad has always been listening to music at home. He used to be a punk when he was a teenager. So I have been listening to all kind of music since a very early age. I remember that he was listening to bands like Guns N’ Roses, Suicidal Tendencies, Rollins Band... I guess it just grew on me. The older I got, the harder the bands were. I discovered death metal and hardcore music during my nu-metal phase when I was 12-13. I always loved the very brutal side of death metal. Even though I started being active in the hardcore scene (still am), death metal has been by my side since those days.

Gotta say, his first answer made me feel pretty fucking old...

I was talking with a younger acquaintance who told me she grew up listening to the proverbial "all kinds of music." Dad liked jazz, mom liked country, little brother liked "emo." "Emo" has kind of evolved in meaning over the years, so I asked her what she meant by emo, and she said, oh, you know, stuff like Slipknot.

Josh in Chicago, Monday, 6 January 2025 02:53 (eight months ago)

Definitely looking forward to new Obscura, and Destruction can always be trusted. I've heard the Mean Mistreater; it's as good as the debut, which I loved. Wardruna are actually playing near me (well, 90 minutes away, which is "near" in Montana terms) this summer:

One very interesting aspect of that festival:

In partnership with the community in the Blackfeet Nation, Fire in the Mountains 2025 at the Red Eagle Campground in the Blackfeet Nation, will be an event without alcohol. This decision was made with respect to the wishes of our hosts and is a decision we align with.

Our aims have always been to build an event that places value on music, nature, and connection above all else, and to have a positive impact in the community that has welcomed us. We stand behind the decision of our Blackfeet partners that all of these aims can be obtained without the presence of alcohol.

We have no interest in passing judgments or preaching any way of life over another. All walks of life are welcome at our festival. What we do stand strongly behind is respecting the land and the wishes of those whom it belongs to.

lots of good shows coming up in London i'm looking forward to; Napalm Death/Crowbar/Full Of Hell/Brat being one, another being King Diamond/Paradise Lost/Unto Others. Incineration Fest is the one i'm most hyped for though - bearing in mind as a one dayer the clashes will be torture.... lineup so far:

Triptykon Performing Celtic Frost (UK Exclusive)
Blood Incantation (UK Exclusive)
Decapitated (UK Festival Exclusive)
Batushka (UK Exclusive)
Cryptopsy
Warbringer
Blackbraid
Spectral Wound
Lamp Of Murmuur
Undergang (UK Exclusive)
Wormwitch
Bedsore (UK Debut)
Celestial Sanctuary
Carnation
Minami Deutsch
Underdark

What does "UK Exclusive" mean? That that is the only time/place they are playing the UK in 2025? I want to start seeing stuff like this more often. Oasis at Soldier Field: Chicago exclusive! Yo La Tengo Hanukkah Shows: NYC exclusive!

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 10 January 2025 16:35 (eight months ago)

yeah, I guess maybe the UK is a small enough country that promoters can pay for that sort of exclusivity and use it in marketing knowing people will travel to the show rather than miss out... probably less likely to happen in bigger countries/USA?

Hmmmmm (jamiesummerz), Sunday, 12 January 2025 23:40 (eight months ago)

Old Man's Child is playing their first US live show ever this summer at an outdoor festival 90 minutes from me. Why they'd choose to make their live debut in rural Montana rather than New York or San Francisco or Los Angeles, I don't know, but they have made that choice.

There's a new German band called Axetasy, and on a purely instrumental level, they live up to the name: the guitars are pretty goddamn axetatic. But the vocals are a hoarse shout, not nearly power metal enough for the music, and they're weirdly placed in the mix. I don't love it as much as I wanted to, but others may disagree.

This Lifeless Dark album from December is apparently stenchcore, which isn't a descriptor I'm familiar with but seems like it basically came to mean a thrashier kind of crust punk? Anyway, it's really awesome.

Josh in Chicago, Saturday, 18 January 2025 16:09 (eight months ago)

I'm old enough to remember when Obscura were a wild, jazz-prog-fusion-y tech-death band. Unfortunately, their new album A Sonication (out 2/7) is some Dark Tranquillity-ass melodeath bullshit, with the occasional fretless bass solo to remind you of what once was.

fwiw the term stenchcore is as old as crust (coming up for 40 years) but seems to be enjoying a resurgence given the number of times I've seen "wtf is stenchcore" posts recently

Colonel Poo, Wednesday, 22 January 2025 16:40 (eight months ago)

I've always liked the term stenchcore because of the "our band smells bad" implication.

The new Century album is the first real standout for me this year. Swedish melodic heavy metal... my favourite area.

The vocal performance took me a minute to warm up to, but I like it. He has a kind of dry, stone-faced quality, which works for me, especially on short punchy tracks like "No Time For Tomorrow".

jmm, Saturday, 8 February 2025 14:39 (seven months ago)

Some other good metal covers this week:
- Al-Namrood doing a black'n'roll-ish version of the Exploited's "Beat the Bastards".
- Ultrviolence's blackgazey "there is a light that never goes out".
- UMC and Anna-Lena Derer Eurevisioning Lady Gaga's "Abracadabra".
- URNE doing a basically reverent rendition of Black Sabbath's "I" (from Dehumanizer).

(And for metal covered, last week there was Rosetta Stone doing Sabbath's "N.I.B.".)

had a fun time at the Life After Death 2 fest this weekend in London; which is heavily associated with the great Crypt Of The Wizard record store. very good sets from Vacuous (new LP on Relapse is killer) and Jaundice (death metal from Glasgow, all looked about 18). this Friday - Napalm Death / Crowbar / Full Of Hell / Brat in brixton :D

I've listened to four songs from that upcoming Arch Enemy record and they're all pretty good. They blend 80s epicness with anime soundtrack epicness with their usual Swedish melodeath and shredtastic guitar solos. I'm not sure I'll need to hear the album twice, but I'm sure it'll sound good once.

Other than that, I'm looking forward to Benediction, Cancer (I have a promo of that one but haven't listened to it yet) and Witchcraft. Meshuggah... maybe. Their last one was pretty good but also extremely samey.

Sometimes it seems like there is just so much of this stuff it's impossible to give it the attention it deserves, or even the amount of attention needed to determine if it deserves attention! Golden age, glut, the gift that keeps on giving ... phew.

Stuff like what you just posted, or at least the first track, when the bass drums are going at, like, mach 12, is that just being triggered? It doesn't seem humanly possible to play that fast.

Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 15 April 2025 17:31 (five months ago)

Sorry Josh, I wish I knew more of the technicalities of how that is done. My non-drummer brain says a combination of technique, double kick drums and maybe some triggering/programming, but I'm not sure.

Speaking of metal, I was looking to see if High on Fire was going to come through town again, and indeed, they are on a bill with Weedeater opening for Acid Bath this December. Good bill, but I was still kinda shocked that the gig is already sold out 7 months in advance!

This review of Ancient Death's Ego Dissolution got me to listen to it (and subscribe to the newsletter where it appeared). The album is really good; somewhat proggy DM with definite late-Death/early-Atheist tendencies, but a nice dose of Necrot/Celestial Sanctuary primitivism too. Plus, the bassist's clean backing vocals, which only appear on a couple of tracks, are great and something uniquely theirs. Ethical dilemma: I want to give them money, but I don't want to give Profound Lore money.

Decibel's rave review got my attention, then that piece, and yep.

They are not wrong.

Extraordinary creativity, some of the gnarliest stuff I've heard in ages but also some of the prettiest solos this side of mid-'80s Malmsteen. Contains multitudes, with a guitar tone one can swim in. And those female vox that come in like The Gathering, oh my.

One of the world’s most iconic music venues – the Sunset Strip’s Roxy Theatre – hosted a legendary 2024 gig by one of the world’s most iconic metal bands, CIRITH UNGOL. The one-night-only performance was an album release show for the band’s 2023 Dark Parade LP. It captured the lineup at the height of its considerable powers, performing Dark Parade in its entirety, along with a set of classic songs including “Join The Legion,” “Frost And Fire,” “Black Machine,” and “Atom Smasher.” The end result is a stellar live album and DVD.

There was no choice other than the Roxy for CIRITH UNGOL to record this momentous live collection. “It’s owned by a Hollywood music legend, Lou Adler,” notes cofounding drummer Rob Garven, “and is next door to the famous Rainbow Bar And Grill. It’s a landmark Hollywood club, which includes the Whisky and The Starwood [now gone] so every time we played one of these historic venues, it was a special occasion. It was great to see many of our friends and fans from all over the world at the show.”

Adds bassist Jarvis Leatherby, “For years, there has been a live bootleg record famous in the underground from their last appearance there in 1984 titled Cirith Ungol, Live At The Roxy. I felt it fitting for the band to return there 40 years later to officially document a live performance in a way the guys would be proud of. Metal Blade Records, The Adlers, Nanotear, and Goldenvoice all came together in support to actually make it happen."

CIRITH UNGOL’s Live At The Roxy holds its own against other legendary live records. “The Who made an extremely powerful album with Live At Leeds, my favorite band of all time, Mountain, had several pretty spectacular live albums, and 1993’s Uriah Heep Live is another outstanding live album! It’s hard to accurately capture all the sound and feeling of a live concert. I think these bands achieved that, and I think our Live At The Roxy does also.”

Live At The Roxy will be released on April 25th via Metal Blade Records. The record will be available digitally and as a 2xCD/DVD set or 2xLP/DVD set in the following color variants:

Green Black Marbled (US – Ltd. 500)

180g Black (EU)

Light Blue Marbled (EU)

Green Black Marbled (EU – Ltd. 500)

Demon Blood Splatter (EU – Ltd. 300)

White / Blue Splatter (Band Exclusive – Ltd. 200 available HERE)

Find preorders at metalblade.com/cirithungol.

CIRITH UNGOL – Live At The Roxy Lineup:

Tim Baker – vocals

Greg Lindstrom – guitar

Robert Garven – drummer

Armand John Anthony – guitar

Jarvis Leatherby – bass

“The band's strong late-period form is now also documented on an impressive live album, which, with a whopping 100 minutes of playing time, includes the complete release show for the 2023 album The Dark Parade. Recorded at the legendary Roxy Club on L.A.'s Sunset Strip, CIRITH UNGOL practically offer a complete showcase of their work, culminating in the frenetically acclaimed 'Join The Legion'. The audience sound is also beautifully captured, so that Live At The Roxy can be recommended to every CIRITH UNGOL cultist to heart.” – Deaf Forever (DE)

Doomed Confessionary: Dan, Phoenix & Tereza (Opia)
https://doomed-nation.com/doomed-confessionary-dan-phoenix-tereza-opia/

Can you say something more about the current music scene in the UK?
Dan: This is kinda tricky since we’re all very spread out (even across countries) but I think as the band practices and records in Cardiff it’s perhaps the closest thing to a “home town” for the band generally. I would suggest that the South Wales/Bristol/Gloucestershire area all represents one doom metal scene in the UK. In that region you have some phenomenal bands like The Drowning, My Silent Wake, Pantheïst, Edenfall, Thrakian, Inver, Root Zero. There are also some atmospheric/melodic black metal bands there like Ofnus and Cistvaen who in all honesty probably have far more in common with us and the others I mentioned above than they do with the majority of the UK black metal scene.

both the t-shirt and this tune are super nice. I have to be real that death metal or go home me would have hated hard on this (because it's just indie rock but louder and with screams) but I'm a softie now and this is a lot of fun.

J Edgar Noothgrush (Joan Crawford Loves Chachi), Friday, 9 May 2025 16:49 (four months ago)

It might've been the venue, might've been because I was so wired for the much more punishing Chat Pile that night, but when I saw Agriculture last fall it didn't do a single thing for me. I'd like to see them again in a cozier space.

Meanwhile I saw Arch Enemy last night, and they're as great as they've ever been. So efficient, so tight, I've been a sucker for their speed metal and twin leads for 25 years now. And Alissa has grown into her role, she's now an absolute force onstage. They debuted their cover of Blaspheme's "Vivre Libre", which if you haven't heard it yet, is as great a Manowar-style metal ballad as you'll ever hear.

Though the avalanche of gigantic balloons during "Nemesis" was, erm, a surprise. It was like Ozzy and the bubbles all over again. “Come on Sharon, I'm the prince of fucking darkness."

Just discovered the Mexican thrash band Phantom via Angry Metal Guy (the writing on that site is so bad, but the music is frequently awesome). They're very much in the spirit of retro-thrash bands from 15 years ago — Fueled By Fire, Merciless Death, et al. — as well as current acts like Voltax. They have two albums, Tyrants Of Wrath and Handed To Execution, plus the four-song Transylvanian Nightmare EP and some demos, a live EP, etc. I'm gonna be giving them my money.

New Cryptopsy is solid. They're on a pretty good run on their last two, kinda hovering in an alternate reality where they kept making Whisper Supremacy sequels.

Despite having only one dude (Flo) from that album....it remarkably channels that era. As opposed to the very meandering Book of Suffering EPs.

I mean, it's not without bummers. McGachy is still a complete nothing vocalist. Flo's drumming these days definitely feels tighter, more triggered but less free-wheeling and crazy than in his earliest years.

But let's be real...a lot of that is that major death metal albums all sound sterile nowadays and if the rest of the band sounds tightly coiled and slick, you can't have your drummer sounding like he's playing on a Krabathor album, so it's tightly edited and sterilized.

There's a ton of very melo-death bits, but not In Flames, more like "Cold Hate Warm Blood" riffs

New Sodom strongly suggests the return of Frank Blackfire has reinvigorated the band. I really had started to sour on new Sodom prior to Genesis XIX, but they seem to be much more focused and fired up again. Blackfire's leads are great.

Complaint is that Angelripper is leaning more and more into Mark Osegueda-by-way-of-Sam-Kinison vocal tics. Can't win em all I guess.

It tells the story of a band united by their passion for music, who sought to inspire change in the world through their powerful sound and meaningful lyrics. At the heart of the film is their iconic anthem "Wind of Change," which became the soundtrack to the end of the Cold War, symbolizing hope, peace and unity. Through their music, with hits ranging from “Rock You Like a Hurricane” to “Still Loving You,” the Scorpions helped bridge the divide between East and West, leaving an indelible mark on history and proving the transformative power of art. West is set to play Doc McGhee, the Scorpions famous music manager and Kross will star as Andrej, the band’s imprisoned friend on the other side of the Berlin wall.

“It’s been an unbelievable journey developing this film and bringing it to life feels surreal” says Ali Afshar, Founder and President of ESX Entertainment. “Not only did the Scorpions’ music help me get through tremendous difficulties as an Iranian immigrant in America in the early 80’s, but their message of love, peace and rock ‘n’ roll seems more relevant today than ever. This cast is an amazing ensemble of truly great talent. I can’t thank FOX Entertainment and Warner Bros. Home Entertainment enough for their support and especially the band -- Rudolf, Klaus and Matthias -- for believing in us and trusting us to tell their life story.”

The Scorpions have built a remarkable legacy as one of the most enduring rock bands of the past fifty years. With 110 million albums sold worldwide, they remain one of Germany’s most successful musical exports. Their breakout hits like “Rock You Like a Hurricane” and “Wind of Change” continue to resonate, the latter surpassing one billion streams across platforms and remaining a cultural touchstone. Even today, their music regularly appears on rock radio and streaming playlists, and they continue to tour globally. Their staying power has earned them a lasting place in rock history.

Wind of Change is produced by ESX Entertainment’s Ali Afshar, Christina Moore and Daniel Aspromonte for FOX Entertainment Studios in association with Warner Bros. Home Entertainment. The film is written by Mark Andrews and directed by Alex Ranarivelo. FOX Entertainment Global retains worldwide distribution rights excluding U.S. and Global transactional rights, which Warner Bros. Discovery Global Content Sales will manage.

New Putridity, otoh, is basically old Putridity. Lots of briiiiiiieeee, lots of pinched harmonics, blast beats, and little to no nuance. That's a feature...not a bug

Raw but with a lot of clarity to the parts being played, vocals that aren't lame inhales and involve some midrange bellowing. Blasting thar is restrained, tremolo riffs that are hummable but pummeling

Blackbraid is the next Decibel cover story. So has it been proven that this guy is actually Indigenous? Has anyone pressed him on the issue?

A. Begrand, Thursday, 17 July 2025 18:30 (two months ago)

He uses a Mohawk name and influence, but has stated in interviews that he is not Mohawk, but that since he lives on their lands, he was inspired by them.

the only quote I can find from him anywhere about his lineage is that he was born in the South to southern natives.

Neanderthal, Thursday, 17 July 2025 18:57 (two months ago)

I'm hoping this cover story covers that part. Black metal is a magnet for grifters, and if this is just another whitey choosing to speak for indigenous people, yikes.

A. Begrand, Thursday, 17 July 2025 19:05 (two months ago)

There's a new Amon Amarth video, and it is some dork-ass LARPy bullshit, and I am 100% here for it:

That video they made three years ago with the guns and monster trucks? Mercifully forgotten.

Instead of create and send out, it pull back and consume (unperson), Thursday, 17 July 2025 21:28 (two months ago)

Re: Blackbraid, as far as I've been able to piece together, he's not a Mohawk and chose the name based on the area he lives in now, as his inspiration. But also apparently he was born in Mexico to at least one indigenous birth parent before being adopted by white parents. So sounds like he's somewhat disingenuous with his "inspiration" regarding where he grew up, but I think he does have some real indigenous background.

I too am interested in the story, I don't think it's clear cut. Kinda sounds like he lands somewhere in the middle ground between a white kid saying "look, my DNA shows I'm 1/16th native" and 100% indigenous.

better than ezra collective soul asylum (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Thursday, 17 July 2025 21:55 (two months ago)

Yeah I'm not buying his gimmick at all. Giving yourself a Mohawk name without ties to the actual nation is a huge red flag.

That Amon Amarth song is genuinely fun! The well is getting dry, though. Maybe they should start singing about colonizing Newfoundland and then they could morph into Newfie Metal with screech and carp and mummers.

So there was supposed to be a fest last year in Elg1n Illin0is called Met@l Thr3at F3st and it got canceled because the venue demanded they remove two bands and they refused. It's happening this year and here are the sketch acts i found

Absu (transphobic)
Inquisiti0n (fronted by pedo)
D!sma (fronted by neo-Nazi)

And...a listing for "Polish black metal legends" who, even with lineup finalized and locked in, they refuse to name. Possibly Gr@veland or some other sketch act they don't want to have their permits pulled over.

Pardon me while I brag for a minute: the Ava Mendoza/gabby fluke-mogul/Carolina Pérez album Mama Killa is the top pick on Bandcamp's Best Metal column for July!

It feels like I’m getting away with something writing about Mama Killa, the first album from the trio of guitarist Ava Mendoza, violinist Gabby Fluke-Mogul, and drummer Carolina Pérez. It isn’t a metal album, not in any conventional sense. Its improvisational origins put it closer to jazz, but it’s not really a jazz album, either. Its closest relative might be the music Dave Lombardo has made with John Zorn over the years—just, you know, without any saxophone. Pérez is the anchor of Mama Killa, and the reason I’m bothering to recommend it to metalheads at all. She’s the drummer for death metal wrecking crew Castrator, and she was invited by Burning Ambulance Music curator Phil Freeman to improvise in the studio with Mendoza and Fluke-Mogul. You can hear the way Pérez’s presence warps the kinds of choices her collaborators make. Mendoza’s guitar parts often feel pointedly metallic, and when she occasionally flexes her virtuosity, she sounds more like a G3 Tour shredder than a heady jazznik. Meanwhile, Fluke-Mogul’s violin gives Pérez an unfamiliar texture to play off of, and the results of their two-person game frequently sound revelatory. For her part, Pérez sounds amazing, always in control of the music even as it pushes her to uncomfortable places. The Castrator album she has coming next month is great, but Pérez’s work on Mama Killa does even more to illustrate why she’s one of the best drummers in heavy music today.

Highlights beyond the excellent performance itself: Paul Riedl is a master of deep voiced mellow/wry between song banter, including being amused/bemused by a blue blow-up alien doll popping up from the crowd, the last song on their playlist before taking the stage was Kraftwerk’s “Pocket Calculator” and during final soundcheck they busted out the opening riff from “Symptom Of The Universe.”

Tomas Lindberg is apparently very ill; a statement from At The Gates was released this morning:

We want to take a moment to update you on what’s been happening with At the Gates, and to do so, we need to take you back about a year and a half.

Below, you’ll find a message from Tomas, written this past March 2025, where he reflects on the past 15 months and the reasons for the radio silence.

However, in early May, Tomas experienced a health setback. Since then, he has been hospitalised and has been receiving dedicated care in a specialized ward where he is being closely monitored around the clock.

While this is a challenging time, we’re staying positive but, even in a best-case-scenario we know the recovery will take a long time.

We kindly ask that you respect Tomas’ and his family’s privacy during this period.

We know how much the band and the music mean to him — Tomas is incredibly proud of the new At the Gates album we've been working on, and we will try to get you more details on this upcoming release very soon.

Thank you for your ongoing support, patience, and understanding.

At the Gates
August 15, 2025

Tomas:

“Hello everyone. I guess some of you may have been wondering why it has been so silent on the At the Gates front lately.

Well, in December 2023, I was diagnosed with Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma (a cancer in the mouth and pallet) and have since then gone through a lot, it has been a very tough year.

First there was a major surgery, where they took away a big part of the roof of the mouth. This was followed by radiation therapy for two months, and ever since it has been a long hard path towards recovery.

Now, in the beginning of 2025, they have found some remains of the cancer, and it is inaccessible by surgery or radiation.

So, we will see what the next step is, but probably some form of chemo therapy, to keep the cancer in check.

Luckily, we recorded vocals for the demos for the new album before all of this happened. The last version of the vocals, the ones that will end up on the album, were recorded in ONE day, mostly one takes, the DAY before the surgery, just to make sure we HAD the album, so to speak. So the vocals were actually recorded BEFORE the rest of the album.... a bit different, but it felt good to have it done.

We have now decided to not wait any longer to release this new album. We had first planned to wait with the release until we knew if/when I would be able to sing again, and we were able to support the release with shows.

Now when everything about the future is a bit more unsure it feels good to deliver this album.

It is an album that we all are very proud of, and it's the first time in 10 years that Jonas and I have worked together with Anders writing an albums’ worth of music.

It is a bit more of a return to the "roots", probably best described as a mix between the two last albums we did with Anders (Slaughter of the Soul and At War with Reality).

Hope you all will enjoy it!

Please respect that we don't want to make a big thing about all this, and that I won't be answering interviews concerning the cancer, the treatment or the recovery. We just wanted this to be out in the open, as we wanted to explain to our fans why we have been quiet for such a long time.

I hope you all are well. Take care of yourself, your loved ones and the time you have on this earth.

Tomas Lindberg / Gothenburg / March 2025”

I know things are awful now, and I feel really bad for my American buds, but if I may, on a lighter note I saw Castle Rat six nights ago and it was so incredibly fun. The new album is very strong, some tasty swords & sorcery doom produced by James Plotkin, but as a live band they're even better. But then there's the show itself. It reminds me so much of bands like W.A.S.P. and Lizzy Borden around '84-'85, who brought theatricality, choreography, psychodrama to small venues. Castle Rat go all in on the fantasy/horror stuff, and the approach is more burlesque and drag, every band member knowing their marks. So I've been increasingly interested in Castle Rat since seeing them earlier this month, and the new album is WAY better than I expected. They've found a cozy little niche between early Sabbath, NWOBHM, and Sleep, Riley has a much more versatile voice than I expected, and Randall Dunn is always so good at capturing the warm tones of classic heavy rock/metal. Kind of like the first Ghost album, this too has its own thing going on, its own weird little retro vibe. I have zero idea what my AOTY will be, but this is a dark horse for sure.

New Paradise Lost is terrific. I've not paid attention for the best part of 30 years. Amazed at how instantly recognisable Gregor Mackintosh's guitar tone* is. The production is spot on.

*From Gothic onwards, ofc. I was a big fan of the first album, which has its own gloriously diseased Peaceville thing going on. Saw them support Sepultura in 1993. Magnificent gig.

I would prefer not to. (Chinaski), Friday, 26 September 2025 11:14 (four days ago)

new voidceremony incoming:

in a crowded field, the last one was probably the one death metal record from the last few years that I've gone back to most - stoked!

A lot of new metal to ponder this week, but my first enthusiasms as I start listening are for the crashing new Elder EP, the new Juliet Ruin song, and the whole majestic new Amorphis album.

I caught the Dark Angel show in Reading, PA a couple days ago.

First of all, I had a great time! The openers Void had frilly shirts and white high-tops nd sounded like they just got done opening for Annihilator in 1987. Fun 'Frash!

I never caught Hirax and they were phenomenal! Katon is seriously one of the best thrash metal frontmen around and he can really belt them out!

Sacred Reich I have been seeing live since 1988 and they are always solid.

Now, Dark Angel put on a good show as well. It was great hearing "Merciless Death" and "Darkness Descends" live. I liked one of the new songs, the title track; the rest were just kind of there.

I know that a lot of people are slagging the album and the band made a big deal out of not streaming it. But they had no copies at the merch booth either!

There is a conspiracy theory going around that the band realizes the album is not so hot so they are burying it. I even heard that people who preordered it are still waiting.

Has anyone heard the album? Does anyone own it? Is it as bad as I have heard?
