Based on this thread on ILE ( ah f***k, what do you all look like? the new 2003 series ) -- which takes forever to load and features loads of folks who don't post on ILM -- how about a pic-displaying thread for strictly the ILM faithful?

Foolishly, I'll start. Here's m'self and my friend Rob (he's the one on the right) behaving like drunken jackasses on a London tube in December 2000.

You know those "making of the blockbuster" style pseudo-documentaries that get dotted about the TV landscape every now and then, offering what basically amounts to a 30 minute advert mascarading as television, where the cast offer vague banalties about their film, and then there's the special effects guy who's wearing a, like, Black Hawk Down baseball cap and he's taking you shot by shot through the major explosion scene at the end?

jm (jtm), Tuesday, 11 February 2003 05:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Now that's a photo! Well done, Jm!

Yeah, that's Cooper Square...some time in the summer of `99 or so.That big wide open space behind us and the fabled cube is doomed to be the host of a big, garish hotel that will invariably resemble Chistopher Lee's huge scary tower in "The Lord of the Rings", and probably cause just as much discontent in the surrounding areas (look for leafy hordes of angry Ents curling their branches into fists with extended middle-fingers at it). In all seriosness, it will blight the neighborhood like a cultural cancer, further rob the `hood of its already dwindling character (a campaign already advanced by Starbucks and K-mart) and attract legions of whistle-headed riff raff, not unlike the Orcs conjured once again by Sauroman. In less Tolkienesque language, it's gonna suck balls.

"Alex, you too are a fox."

I have been likened to many beasts in my time -- swine, weasel, jackass and hooting jungle gibbon among them -- but to be compared to the cunning, sly forrest mammal of whom you speak is a new one. I appreciate it. I too have a spouse, tho' -- one who is currently upstairs with a fever (bad flu!) for whom I am staying home today, clumsily attempting to nurse her back into working order.

Wait...is that Ally with blonde hair? She totally looks like my little sister! Radical!

And then...

I'm sorry, but I can't see a pic of Nate anymore without the word "HATER" popping to mind, and then giggling like a little girl.

And then...

JBR's eyes are hypnotizing. "I will do as you command, Oh Goth Goddess." :D

Re: Cop Shoot Cop

"Since some/all were lower east side residents(?), it probably didn't have anything to do with police. Still, hmmm...not funny :("

Well, it really depends on who you ask. Moreover, they were all Brooklynauts at the time. The original legend behind the name was that it was taken from a screaming NEW YORK POST headline....which sounds vaguely reasonable, although even the POST would't let slip their watchful eye on such grammar. Then, of course, there's the rather cryptic suggestion that it has nothing to do with firearms and peace officers at all, but rather it was lingo describing the heroin junkie's lifestyle: cop dope, shoot dope, go cop more dope, etc. etc. ad nauseum. Certainly this interpretation is supported by fact that notorious narcotic-afficianados Spiritualized recorded a track (bizarrely with New Orleans pianoman, Dr.John) called "Cop Shoot Cop" on LADIES & GENTLEMEN, WE ARE FLOATING IN SPACE. To listen to said track (to say nothing of reading the lyrics) suggests that it has absolutely fuck-all to do with the NYC band. The last word on the matter, however, belongs to C$C drummer Phil Puleo, who writes on his "official" Cop Shoot Cop website:

"I suppose I should start with how we really got our name. Tod and I were sitting around in our Brookyn NY, kitchen brainstorming. Throwing out names like, Transformer, HammerHead, Fast Forward, among others. 'How about Shoot Cops or Kill Cops' said Tod. 'I hate cops'. I thought that wouldn't be very PC so I suggested 'Cop Shoot'. Like Crap Shoot or Turkey Shoot (if anyone knows what that is). Tod was writing these names down and seeing how they would look in print. In design things in 3 seem to balance and so it seemed logical to balance 'Shoot Cop' or 'Cop Shoot' by adding another 'Cop'. I know that's not as exciting as being inspired by a NY Post headline. Although that really did happen in our neighborhood. A cop shot another cop by mistake in a drug bust. The headline read 'Cop Shot Cop' or maybe it was 'Cop Shoots Cop'. Who really cares anymore anyway?"

Anyway, that's Phil's take on the matter. I'll leave it up to you to pick your favorite rendition.

---------Alex in NYC---------

Yeah, don't exactly know about residency. I just remember Nantz living in our place on Ave A after my husband and I moved out, until the month was up or something. I think he gave us a bed? Maybe it was someone else. Can't imagine Nantz having a bed...Actually, I had to beg to get a bed since my husband thought we should be floor sleepers. Oh, and when I demanded a tv...oh, boy, what I had to go through to get a tv in the house. Anyhow, if my husband's reading, he'll probably email me and refresh my memory of Nantz.

hmmm...and that 'alternate' definition of Cop Shoot Cop is what I remember being the sad story. Thus, no law enforcement offense taken.

sean, i beleive we have a theme for the fap this weekend thanx to our new hero, carey.

dyson (dyson), Wednesday, 12 February 2003 20:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Just a word of warning - that hat gives you hot, steamy cabbage head. It keeps the moisture in. Which is good for the treadmill I guess. Anyway Sean, we have other solidarity. As I mentioned, 2 years ago I think I was the only person to vote in P&J for D. Holmes "Bow Down To the Exit Sign". If only for the great single *69 Police* which I always thought sounded like James *Born of Fustration* which was one of the first cds I got when I was in Jr. High from Columbia House. See it always goes back to Jr. High.

Carey (Carey), Wednesday, 12 February 2003 20:37 (twenty-two years ago)

I just realized "hot, steamy cabbage head" sounded a bit dirty.

And my mistake, back in the day I thought I was the only person to vote for that album not knowing about the search function. But there were 6 other votes it looks like (I had just returned home from a 6 month stint in England, so 1/2 my ballot that year was made up).
