I'm a little tipsy, too. It's a popular sport. Some nights, I think we should all move over to the "ask a drunk" forum. Maybe some hybrid... "Ask a drunk what he thinks about music."

Reiterating what should have been said in the intro -- this is more interesting if you tell us where you are and what time it is. That way, we learn three thing about each other -- what we're listeining to, where we are, and what insane hours we keep.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Sunday, 16 February 2003 08:39 (twenty-three years ago)

"Trapped" has become "Hangin on a string" by Loose ends. I'm at home. The kids are in bed. I have had 3 bottles of homemade beer. Today I reorganised the house. It is 7.30 EST. I am chewing gum. I have on a pair of baggy cream shorts and an SBS Radio T-shirt. It is hot and humid. As I type "Your Life by Konk has come on. A ceiling fan whirs. Soon I will eat pesto...

Mr Diamond,
Not on slsk. Can post you an mp3. A few minutes please.

gaz (gaz), Sunday, 16 February 2003 09:03 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm just vain enough to play along.

Drinking: Aberlour 10-yr-old Highland Single Malt Scotch, in my favorite way, which is room temperature, no ice, splash of spring water. Brings out the sweetness in the best Scotch for its price (about $30.)
Wearing: My favorite yellow button-down shirt, which used to be shiny but isn't anymore becuase I didn't "dry clean only." And jeans.
Weather: 39 degrees and humid as the inside of my esophagus.
Girlfriend: Asleep, beautiful, talented, and smarter than me by her own admission.
Wishing: I was in Chicago, maybe at the Green Mill seeing some nice jazz. Wishing, in effect, that I needed a much bigger coat to go outside. Damn, I love that city.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Sunday, 16 February 2003 09:06 (twenty-three years ago)

Don't bother (coming to Chicago), it's like -10 degrees f. in my apartment. The Green Mill is hosting a bad organ quartet right now, no doubt.

Amateurist (amateurist), Sunday, 16 February 2003 09:08 (twenty-three years ago)

Yes, but imagine you're in Texas and listening to the Aluminum Group, and you begin to see why it's so easy for me to romanticize Chicago right now.

yikes, was it the heavy Coney Island action? I was kinda underwhelmed with 'em, apparently they haven't played too much lately and were kinda rusty. Still, I can think of worse shit.

and my friend who was supposed to dj still hadn't shown up by that time so we left and drank too much somewhere else.

Yeah, neither Morgan nor Freeman showed up, so it was Joel St. Germain and this other guy Ryan (don't know his last name but he's a friend of mine) spinning - the sound system and/or cartridge the place provided had issues, but it was still fun. Endless Boogie were a great rockin' time.

Thursday 20 February, 2003, 6:16am. I have been repeating Tonex's "Bout' a Thang" for the past hour. It's a gospel-R&B track, has a lightness of feel and assuredness that reminds me of Tony Toni Tone at their best, not to mention one of those booming-and-zooming synth-y basslines that hallmarked new jack swing but it sounds more mid-90s or so. great vocals (some great processing, too, in parts), and in the background there's this persistent little falsetto "mmm, hmm-hmm" that flickers just out of reach. something about it screams "desire," and something else about it whispers "gratitude." heard it on a mix-CD and it's been knocking me around the apartment all fucking night; I love the hell out of it.

N*E*R*D: Fly or Die - half of the record is actually rather good, 1960ies acid rock hauled through punk and cut into little neptunes hip hop pieces.

I would post on this thread more often, but I'm sort of ashamed to admit how much blur I listen to at work and consequently just kind of back away slowly from the thread unless I'm listening to something else.

Fillmore Jive by Pavement.

I used to hate the self-indulgent wishy washy guitar ones like that and some of the ones on Brighten the Corners, but now I like them. At the time that sort of thing seemed the province of dinosaur rockers like Neil Young; but now that Pavement are dinosaur rockers themselves, it seems perfectly in order, while the arty ironic stuff has wanned on me.

Best Mate for the Gold Cup tomorrow.
