stirmonster, Sunday, 2 March 2003 18:21 (twenty-two years ago)

holy crap stirry have you bent all laws of space and time in order to provide this?? the dates on your calendar are from some alternate universe!! anyway - woooooo hooo a glasgow soundbombing!

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Sunday, 2 March 2003 19:18 (twenty-two years ago)

oops! fixed it. thanks for pointing out the cock up.

stirmonster, Sunday, 2 March 2003 19:32 (twenty-two years ago)

what is the Torture Garden? i'm perturbed and intrigued - i'd love to sample the Optimo vibe tho

stevem (blueski), Sunday, 2 March 2003 19:32 (twenty-two years ago)

The Torture Garden has strived to promote creative expression and experimentation from artists, performers and designers working with the body and sexuality. And it has gained a reputation second to none for staging the very best shows on the international scene

it's an s&m club. i'm not really into s&m but the idea of providing the soundtrack to an s&m night thrills me. get yr rubber on!

stirmonster, Sunday, 2 March 2003 19:46 (twenty-two years ago)

unless malkmus invites you in september (although you've opened for him before though now that i think about it), you may want to change the ATP NY to APT NY.

gygax! (gygax!), Sunday, 2 March 2003 19:57 (twenty-two years ago)

thanks gygax. my brain is not working today.

stirmonster, Sunday, 2 March 2003 20:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Hey Twitch, pretty sure I DJed (if you could call it that) before you at one of the Matador 10th Anniversary nights at ULU few years ago. Don't think I'll be able to make it over to NYC, but I will most certainly be visiting Glasgow in the late spring/summer - when the native Optimos around that time?

Nathan Webb (Nathan Webb), Sunday, 2 March 2003 20:15 (twenty-two years ago)

optimo?

RJG (RJG), Sunday, 2 March 2003 20:28 (twenty-two years ago)

knox, Sunday, 2 March 2003 21:06 (twenty-two years ago)

very nice set from stirmonster and dj mary hill at APT on thursday! (despite the general slightly-stuffy tenor to the place and just a little pathway to dance in) all who missed it should get over to passerby on sunday night. the dancefloor lights up!

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Sunday, 9 March 2003 01:47 (twenty-two years ago)

stirmonster, Wednesday, 9 February 2005 19:37 (twenty years ago)

What is Saturday?

Alba (Alba), Wednesday, 9 February 2005 19:41 (twenty years ago)

thats the new "when's kill the DJ Part 2 coming out?"

jed_ (jed), Wednesday, 9 February 2005 19:47 (twenty years ago)

"out back by the refinery tanks" is my new favorite venue! i'm really looking forward to this.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 9 February 2005 19:52 (twenty years ago)

so am i - i'm sneaking in stirmonster's record bag.

jed_ (jed), Wednesday, 9 February 2005 19:55 (twenty years ago)

jed_ are you going to be there? It will be great to meet you!

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 9 February 2005 20:02 (twenty years ago)

jed_ (jed), Wednesday, 9 February 2005 20:09 (twenty years ago)

one day maybe you will all see Optimo, in Dublin. oh would that that could happen : )

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 9 February 2005 22:19 (twenty years ago)

Just come to Glasgow you lazy twat. It's like 5p on Ryanair.

Alba (Alba), Wednesday, 9 February 2005 22:33 (twenty years ago)

http://www.csun.edu/~psy453/menop_y.htm

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 9 February 2005 22:48 (twenty years ago)

why would I put a smiley at the end of a post moaning about not being able to go to Glasgow?

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 9 February 2005 22:50 (twenty years ago)

Ronan, you're weird.

Alba (Alba), Wednesday, 9 February 2005 23:05 (twenty years ago)

Yep.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 9 February 2005 23:06 (twenty years ago)

"Optimo DJs" sounds even more suspicious than usual.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Friday, 11 February 2005 06:09 (twenty years ago)

we're sending the robots.

stirmonster, Friday, 11 February 2005 17:41 (twenty years ago)

twitch you got any planz on the 8th? wanna add another show? or just hang out?

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 21 February 2005 22:13 (twenty years ago)

hey joel. no plans for the 8th. what did you have in mind? but whatever, i am most definitely up for hanging out (even though the last time we hung out led to me losing my passport!)

stirmonster, Monday, 21 February 2005 23:09 (twenty years ago)

i was thinking that if you guys wanted to add another show, you could definitely play at siberia (tho lemme make sure the schedule's free). if not, hanging out is definitely a good idea. i'll email you.

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 21 February 2005 23:12 (twenty years ago)

coolio. will email you back when i get back home tonight.

stirmonster, Tuesday, 22 February 2005 00:40 (twenty years ago)

does anyone have an opinion on if advance tickets will be needed for the monday (llano estacado) optimo party? i ask because the animal collective gig there sold out, but it'd be a real pain for me to get advance tix in greenpoint. i'd hate to get locked out though...

rm265, Monday, 28 February 2005 19:48 (twenty years ago)

you never know, since it's monday. i'd just say show up on time and/or early. it's a big space.

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 28 February 2005 19:55 (twenty years ago)

are there advanced tix for saturday at the tribeca grand? this sounds really cool.

joseph (joseph), Tuesday, 1 March 2005 00:29 (twenty years ago)

ok, i have a feeling this is going to be the best weekend ever. im going to get real drunk and throw-up on cute boys.

saturday, march 5th: MY BIRTHDAY, Y'ALL. tribeca grand. optimo, jdh, davep, fun.
sunday, march 6th: Me and Cat (fannypack) are dj'ing at Verlaine in the lower east side from 7pm - midnite'ish.
monday, march 7th: More Optimo fun in Brooklyn. with dan and tim! all my favorite djs at one party. though i think tim is kinda mad at me, i should call him
tuesday, march 8th: Even more Optimo fun at Siberia?

phil-two (phil-two), Tuesday, 1 March 2005 01:19 (twenty years ago)

joseph, its free. you just have to rsvp

phil-two (phil-two), Tuesday, 1 March 2005 01:19 (twenty years ago)

oh snap. will get on that, then.

that looks like an awesome weekend phil! i'd like to go to a second optimo if the first one turns out great (and i suspect it will) (though like everything else this depends on my work/money situation)

joseph (joseph), Tuesday, 1 March 2005 04:55 (twenty years ago)

no optimo fun at siberia, unfortunately. they might come just hang out sunday, which would be rad..

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 1 March 2005 05:05 (twenty years ago)

Who would I RSVP to? The link given on flavorpill ain't right.

W i l l (common_person), Tuesday, 1 March 2005 20:36 (twenty years ago)

i'm guessing tribeca grand?

joseph (joseph), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 07:33 (twenty years ago)

todd p's email today sez no advance on monday. show up on time.

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 19:46 (twenty years ago)

IMPORTANT:

Llano Estacado is shut down for the time being.

We're moving the Optimo gig to the GLASS HOUSE GALLERY -- 38 S. 1st btw. Wythe & Kent, Williamsburg. Same time, same cover, same PA, same everything.

Spread the word to those who were planning on coming.

jed_ (jed), Saturday, 5 March 2005 19:54 (twenty years ago)

damn. what happened to todd's space?

rm265, Saturday, 5 March 2005 19:59 (twenty years ago)

sorry i have no idea - i'm just passing that on.

jed_ (jed), Saturday, 5 March 2005 20:04 (twenty years ago)

shut down? fuck!

hstencil (hstencil), Saturday, 5 March 2005 20:06 (twenty years ago)

here's the message from doug re: venue change. Todd hasn't updated his site/sent emails yet but I'm sure he'll be on that ASAP. -

The Optimo DJs/Dan Selzer/Tim Sweeney/Doug Mosurock DJ party thing that was going to happen at Llano Estacado on Monday has been MOVED.

It's now going off at the following location:

The Glass House
38 S. 1st btw. Wythe and Kent

Doors at 9, $5 cover.

Cheers to Todd Patrick for coming through on this with the quickness. He's a hero. He's my hero.

Spread the word...

dm

hstencil (hstencil), Saturday, 5 March 2005 20:08 (twenty years ago)

Woah. Hope Llano Estacado is back real soon.

I'm excited to (hopefully) see Optimo tonight. My friend got a confirmation for her RSVP but I didn't. :\ Phil-two, I wanted to meet you and wish a happy birthday!

W i l l (common_person), Saturday, 5 March 2005 20:11 (twenty years ago)

got shut down already? ugh.

w i l l, i'll see you at the tribeca tonite!!

phil-two (phil-two), Saturday, 5 March 2005 20:50 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, dude! I'll look for the crowd of birthday celebrators or something! Maybe I'll look a little nicer than here: the Futureheads tonight at the Bowery Ballroom. Anyone here goin'?

W i l l (common_person), Saturday, 5 March 2005 22:38 (twenty years ago)

here's the word on the llano estacado from todd p:

Heya kids -

so on Friday night Monster Island - aka the Llano Estacado / Secret
Project Robot / Live With Animals gallery - got raided by the
Greenpoint Precinct Police Department. The police hung around for a
long time and caused us a lot of anxiety and called the Fire
Department and whatnot, but amazingly - though we chose to kill the
party for the night because of worries - they did not shut us down.

In the wake of the authorities poking around the space we've decided
to lay low for awhile and get some ducks in order. It makes sense to
safeguard the space against permanent trouble - and at this point it
looks like we should be fine in the long run. Accordingly though, the
shows for the next few weeks will be relocated, starting with this
evening's.

rm265, Saturday, 5 March 2005 23:47 (twenty years ago)

fuck, well i hope it works out.

hstencil (hstencil), Sunday, 6 March 2005 00:06 (twenty years ago)

yeah i hope this doesn't become a repeat of the troubles volume had.

rm265, Sunday, 6 March 2005 00:07 (twenty years ago)

i doubt it. volume was not run well.

hstencil (hstencil), Sunday, 6 March 2005 00:10 (twenty years ago)

bah, i can't make it to the tribeca grand tonight for this and it's looking doubtful for monday, so have fun, all those who ARE going and aren't suckachumps like me.

joseph (joseph), Sunday, 6 March 2005 00:11 (twenty years ago)

hmmm. i don't think we were as good as we can be tonight but i hope the ilm'ers that turned up can forgive the jumping records, the sound cutting out and er, all the other cock ups / bad transitions / dodgy mixes / cheesetasicness etc. etc.

lovely to see tracer hand again, meet rm265 (i tried to fnd you again but couldn't...) geeta (you rock!) and simon (who i am TOTALLY mortified i didn't recognise and thought was an american - sorry!)

stirmonster, Sunday, 6 March 2005 10:23 (twenty years ago)

great to meet you as well! i was in the back dancing away till the very end. it was wonderful (jumping records and all). "oldschool, baby" and "i need love" were treats.

rm265, Sunday, 6 March 2005 10:56 (twenty years ago)

yay that was fun! i'm gonna try to make it on monday as well, depending on the situation at the door (i am assuming lines down the block?)

geeta (geeta), Sunday, 6 March 2005 17:30 (twenty years ago)

yeah does anyone know how big the glass house is? is it small enough that it might fill up early?

rm265, Sunday, 6 March 2005 18:02 (twenty years ago)

there can't be that many people going out on a Monday, right? right?

last night was great! i was dancing in front of the stage-left speaker most of the night, right in front of the turntable from like 2:30 - 3:30. i said thanks to red-flannel dj-- jg, right?-- in the lobby afterwords. met no ilmers though :(

W i l l (common_person), Sunday, 6 March 2005 18:26 (twenty years ago)

oh my head. i haven't gotten out of bed yet. had a ton of fun, until it got like scary crowded, and also until i passed the threshold of keeping my shit together. but i go on monday.

also if anyone bored tonite, im dj'ing with kendra at verlaine (110 rivington between essex and ludlow) from 7-midnite'ish.

phil-two (phil-two), Sunday, 6 March 2005 23:27 (twenty years ago)

but yeah the only ilxers i saw were geeta & simon who came to my house for pre-drinks. and tracer hand who said something about my dancing and bought me a drink but forgot to give it to me.

phil-two (phil-two), Sunday, 6 March 2005 23:29 (twenty years ago)

i tried to give it to you but you were gone!! i waited at least two or three seconds for you to come back, too.

the power cut-out was k-classic. stirmonster dropped everything, and replaced it with a huge ragga chant. the crowd was in hysterics. then it dawns on us that this isn't just ragga there's also a joy divison track slamming through it. and when frenetic jungle beats started in across the both of them, s1m0n reynolds' hands went right up in the air.. and the power went. it's good to know some things never change.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Sunday, 6 March 2005 23:42 (twenty years ago)

my god that sounds amazing!

jed_ (jed), Sunday, 6 March 2005 23:45 (twenty years ago)

it was! god forgive me for writing "frenetic jungle beats" but it's true

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Monday, 7 March 2005 00:03 (twenty years ago)

who's going on monday nite. roll call.

phil-two (phil-two), Monday, 7 March 2005 07:00 (twenty years ago)

not only optimo, dan selzer and tim sweeney too!!!!

phil-two (phil-two), Monday, 7 March 2005 07:00 (twenty years ago)

There with flair, phil.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Monday, 7 March 2005 07:33 (twenty years ago)

i'm going monday.

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 7 March 2005 10:21 (twenty years ago)

i am, but probably not for the whole thing :(

how big the glass house?? when will this thing fill up?

W i l l (common_person), Monday, 7 March 2005 14:59 (twenty years ago)

just saw this promo, which makes me think i should plan to get there a little earlier tonight. not that i'd normally wear a sweater, but "dress to sweat" is a good warning.

OPTIMO DJs (JD Twitch/JG Wilkes, Glasgow)
esteemed club DJs & remixers (Tigersushi, Ze Records, Kompakt)

with local support by
DAN SELZER (Crazy Rhythms / ALLDISCO / Acute Records)
TIM SWEENEY (Beats in Space / DFA)
and DOUG MOSUROCK (Cockfight / Version City Records)

tonight @ Glass House Gallery (38 s. 1st btw. wythe & kent, willy-b)
9pm
$5 cover
dress to sweat

(note: this is NOT taking place at Llano Estacado. the new space is not as large as Llano Estacado so we expect to shut the doors once capacity is reached. getting there early is strongly advised!)

rajeev, Monday, 7 March 2005 19:37 (twenty years ago)

what's this glass house venue like? has anyone been there?

geeta (geeta), Monday, 7 March 2005 19:52 (twenty years ago)

i think it's an art gallery.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Monday, 7 March 2005 19:59 (twenty years ago)

this site has some more info. 1600 sq feet, 20 foot high ceilings, but apparently it only holds 200 people. yikes.

http://www.brookebaxter.com/glasshousegallery/

rajeev, Monday, 7 March 2005 20:00 (twenty years ago)

Thanks for posting that, rajeev. (Where did it come from?) I will be getting there earlier

W i l l (common_person), Monday, 7 March 2005 21:49 (twenty years ago)

i just took a few cracks in google and found it, actually.

tonight is so tempting, but i have a feeling it will completely waste me for tomorrow. still might need to be done though.

rajeev, Monday, 7 March 2005 22:15 (twenty years ago)

people thinking about using the L to leave w'burg tonight, I think it's down after midnight tonight, but I could be wrong since the online advisory does not say that.

S!monB!rch (Carey), Monday, 7 March 2005 22:15 (twenty years ago)

it was down last night but then again that was sunday.

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 7 March 2005 22:20 (twenty years ago)

it was down ALL DAY yesterday which sucked since someone gave me tickets to the alexandrov red army chorus and dance afternoon show, so I had to haul ass from the subway back home and drive the tweety wagon into the city and pay mad parking garage charges. bastards. those russians are limber though.

S!monB!rch (Carey), Monday, 7 March 2005 22:50 (twenty years ago)

man i HATE that i'm home right now. especially when "baby wants to ride" was one of the last songs i heard! (i'm always a sucker for the chicago house classics.) i couldn't turn down a ride home, but i regretted it almost instantly.

well, nice to meet a bunch of you tonight! and i'm sure the last couple hours of the party were the best...

rajeev, Tuesday, 8 March 2005 07:09 (twenty years ago)

SO MUCH FUN

eisbaer, and some remix of easy lee, and omg so much fun, oh drunk, saw geeta and hstencil and trace had, but i didnt meet ant rajeevs! next time though.

phil-two (phil-two), Tuesday, 8 March 2005 08:13 (twenty years ago)

I met rajeev! He was really nice but then I couldn't find him again. At least I didn't drink his drink!! I did knock over a bunch of empty beer cans towards the stage at one point though. Sorry stirmonster. I don't think I represented nearly the same threat as the obstreperous glaswegian did (although he knocked over no beer cans). He was talking about that girl who'd done him wrong like it happened yesterday. Once he started in with "I don't have a violent bone in my body.. but" I was like wa hey okay so listen er.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Tuesday, 8 March 2005 08:44 (twenty years ago)

oh of course also ran into jayvee. but tracer hand yes did knock over a tower of beer cas that max had lovingly constructed

phil-two (phil-two), Tuesday, 8 March 2005 09:02 (twenty years ago)

tracer hand - i only made it till a little past 1. my free ride home was leaving, and the L train was done at midnight. i'm told they did "billie jean" -> "staring at the sun" right after i left. which, along with the "easy lee" rmx i missed, confirms i made the wrong call.

"eisbaer" totally ruled though!

rajeev, Tuesday, 8 March 2005 15:28 (twenty years ago)

was there any point when the whole room was dancing? when i left, only 1/4, if that, were dancing and I wanted to hang all the people standing, clinging to their cans of miller high life, from a cage in the middle of the ceiling.

S!monB!rch (Carey), Tuesday, 8 March 2005 15:36 (twenty years ago)

yeah, i liked the space. and $3 beer is always a plus. so many people were smashed! it was great! wish they could've played til 4 instead of ending at 2, but for monday night, it was perfection

geeta (geeta), Tuesday, 8 March 2005 15:43 (twenty years ago)

did the party finish up at 2, or just their set?

rajeev, Tuesday, 8 March 2005 15:47 (twenty years ago)

jg said something about going to a bar around the corner but we left before that happened, that was around 2:30. twas great! nice to meet you, jd (i came up on stage after and introduced myself).

obstreperous glaswegian -- was this the tall blonde guy? he used me as a drum briefly. was much of the crowd really not dancing? up front it didn't feel like it!

W i l l (common_person), Tuesday, 8 March 2005 16:00 (twenty years ago)

rajeev, the L wasn't done at midnight, i rode it home much later than that

W i l l (common_person), Tuesday, 8 March 2005 16:01 (twenty years ago)

back into manhattan? i saw a sign on the way in that said there was no service to 8th ave after 12 ... i might've just misread it though.

i thought tim sweeney and dan selzer were both great beforehand BTW, as usual. i liked that sweeney played "kick in the eye."

rajeev, Tuesday, 8 March 2005 16:06 (twenty years ago)

NUMA NUMA!!

S!monB!rch (Carey), Tuesday, 8 March 2005 16:08 (twenty years ago)

yeah, back to manhattan. that service notice was only for the weekend.

W i l l (common_person), Tuesday, 8 March 2005 16:17 (twenty years ago)

Will no, he was shortish with a grindy mouth and darting eyes. He looked ready to, you know, do something as dumm as hurl a stack of empty beer cans towards the stage in a drunken approximation of "festiveness" - god I am an idiot!!

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Tuesday, 8 March 2005 17:38 (twenty years ago)

did anyone else notice how many cute guys there were that nite?

phil-two (phil-two), Tuesday, 8 March 2005 20:02 (twenty years ago)

phil that's one of the primo reasons for going to Optimo anywhere!

jed_ (jed), Tuesday, 8 March 2005 20:05 (twenty years ago)

i might have to book that flight to see them in miami. with tiefschwarz, mylo, 2manydjs, tiga, james murphy, and lots of cute guys.

phil-two (phil-two), Tuesday, 8 March 2005 20:27 (twenty years ago)

haha

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Tuesday, 8 March 2005 20:44 (twenty years ago)

nice to meet you rajeev! so weird that one of rajeev's friends is someone i know already!

great sets by everyone last night. i was psyched on sweeney's cuz i have to admit that i was not impressed when i saw him at the black dice show at volume last year. very seamless, very good stuff.

keith and johnny slayed, tho. 'twas fucking awesome.

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 9 March 2005 04:06 (twenty years ago)

even weirder - i actually had never met him in person before last night! just lots of message board chatter. (different board though.)

rajeev (rajeev), Wednesday, 9 March 2005 04:13 (twenty years ago)

whoa.

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 9 March 2005 04:14 (twenty years ago)

speaking of which, is the matador bored down? for some reason i can't get to it on my roommate's machine. MACS ARE WEIRD.

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 9 March 2005 04:15 (twenty years ago)

yeah i think it's been down for a couple days now. i'm not sure what's up, but the same thing happened last week.

rajeev (rajeev), Wednesday, 9 March 2005 04:21 (twenty years ago)

(macs are still weird though.)

rajeev (rajeev), Wednesday, 9 March 2005 04:22 (twenty years ago)

i was psyched on sweeney's cuz i have to admit that i was not impressed when i saw him at the black dice show at volume last year. very seamless, very good stuff.

its tim's birthday and he's spinning justine's party on friday at lit. he's one of my favorite djs!

phil-two (phil-two), Wednesday, 9 March 2005 05:05 (twenty years ago)

you guys are so lucky to have a dj like sweeney in nyc - he's one of the best. it was a dream playing with him and dan selzer last night. great to meet y'all again and sorry joel i didn't hook up tonight. i'm a pussy when the weather gets a bit grim.

stirmonster, Wednesday, 9 March 2005 05:31 (twenty years ago)

no sweat, just walking home from the local bodega was killin' me. plus tho i wanted to go out with ya, not spending any money (that i don't have) on booze is probably a good thing. next time.

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 9 March 2005 08:00 (twenty years ago)

hstencil and i were happy to hear sweeney play shriekback. we figure the baldy shriekback revival is just a matter of time.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 9 March 2005 16:18 (twenty years ago)

totally!

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 9 March 2005 18:10 (twenty years ago)

dan selzer is spining (yet again) tonite at the trinity room at the tribeca grand with mattie from rapture and asia argento (!!!) - for the JT leroy/nyuff party. anyone going?

phil-two (phil-two), Wednesday, 9 March 2005 21:48 (twenty years ago)

do you need to be on a guest list? i was thinking about seeing sammy dee at lit.

rajeev (rajeev), Wednesday, 9 March 2005 22:04 (twenty years ago)

oh, email me. but yeah im going to sammydee/plexus later at lit too.

phil-two (phil-two), Wednesday, 9 March 2005 22:14 (twenty years ago)

NUMA NUMA!!

-- S!monB!rch (flembac...), March 8th, 2005 8:08 AM. (Carey)

NAUM NAUM!!

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 9 March 2005 22:33 (twenty years ago)

six months pass...
i have a flyer in my hand to promote an upcoming monthly night at don hill's, called "night time", and it appears that stirmonster is to play the debut. whoever these guy are, they're getting off on the good foot!

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Saturday, 8 October 2005 19:48 (twenty years ago)

please share the info so we can likewise distribute.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Saturday, 8 October 2005 20:57 (twenty years ago)

BUT WHEN ARE THEY COMING TO LA DO I HAVE TO BOOK IT MYSELF GODDAMMIT HOW MUCH MONEY DO YOU NEEEEEEEEEEEEeEeeEEEEEeeeeeEEEeEEEEED?

i am going to be in nyc for this! YES.

stirmonster (stirmonster), Sunday, 23 October 2005 18:43 (twenty years ago)

twitch i was there! you were awesome! i waved to you while you were DJing but i didn't get the chance to talk. hope you had a good time in nyc.

geeta (geeta), Sunday, 23 October 2005 18:58 (twenty years ago)

due to circumstances beyond my control i had to miss the montreal show... MAJOR :(

s1ocki (slutsky), Sunday, 23 October 2005 19:03 (twenty years ago)

awww! can't believe i missed you geeta. i couldn't really see anything from the dj box anyway so had to imagine there was a party going on. would have waved back if i'd seen you.

slocki, the bands in montreal overran so i only got to play for 30 minutes :(

stirmonster (stirmonster), Sunday, 23 October 2005 19:24 (twenty years ago)

three months pass...
BIG BUMP! So, is there gonna be some sort of FAP before Friday's gig? Stir - when do you get into town?

Jay Vee (Manon_70), Tuesday, 14 February 2006 15:02 (nineteen years ago)

i am SO THERE!! v. excited!

geeta (geeta), Tuesday, 14 February 2006 19:29 (nineteen years ago)

Likewise. Think I'll be getting my ticket beforehand. Have a feeling this will be sellin' out.

Jay Vee (Manon_70), Tuesday, 14 February 2006 19:35 (nineteen years ago)

i get in tonight!

stirmonster (stirmonster), Wednesday, 15 February 2006 06:41 (nineteen years ago)

Twitch - tried to reach you via yr email but it's off.

Jay Vee (Manon_70), Wednesday, 15 February 2006 20:07 (nineteen years ago)

I'll definitely be at Don Hill's on Friday. Can't wait. Think I'm gonna pick up my tickets tonight.

Renard (Renard), Wednesday, 15 February 2006 20:31 (nineteen years ago)

don't forget motherfucker...the combination of a big room with (hopefully) good sound and LOTS os people who really love to dance. I know it has it's haters, but some of the best dance parties I've ever dj'd have been motherfuckers.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Wednesday, 15 February 2006 20:36 (nineteen years ago)

If I had Prez Day off work I'd totally do both ... but unfortunately, I don't.

Motherfucker is sort of dickish with the door policy aren't they? Or am I off base? I've never been to one.

Renard (Renard), Wednesday, 15 February 2006 20:52 (nineteen years ago)

Motherfucker's (at Avalon.'nuff said) a little rich for my blood.

Jay Vee (Manon_70), Wednesday, 15 February 2006 20:58 (nineteen years ago)

The guy who works the door at Motherfucker is the same guy who does Nighttime (and Misshapes). I know they give lip-service to "working a look" but they're not going to turn someone away at the door. Best bet is always to show up early, or get a ticket or something anyway.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Wednesday, 15 February 2006 21:00 (nineteen years ago)

yeah, the motherfucker door policy has always turned me off. and the cover charge is definitely steep. but i dunno, i've never been to one of their parties and if i don't make it to this one, i feel like i'll never go. they get talked up enough that i'm curious, and obvs the music will be great.

really looking fwd to don hill's...

rajeev (rajeev), Wednesday, 15 February 2006 22:09 (nineteen years ago)

Not totally unrelated but Tim Sweeney is spinning at the Independent in San Francisco tonight, all right!

Steve Shasta (Steve Shasta), Wednesday, 15 February 2006 22:09 (nineteen years ago)

tim sweeney:

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Wednesday, 15 February 2006 22:15 (nineteen years ago)

Niiiice flyer!

Jay Vee (Manon_70), Wednesday, 15 February 2006 22:30 (nineteen years ago)

it was late.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Wednesday, 15 February 2006 22:42 (nineteen years ago)

bump..

let's keep this up here. Night Time is a relatively new party and often has bands. But if Optimo could fill the Glass House on a monday night in Brooklyn, I have no doubt they should be able to destroy Don Hills. But for real, everyone should go to this, and as I mentioned elsewhere, hit No Ordinary Monkey afterwords for their 2nd anniversery party. I've heard DJ Harvey as a rumor, but who knows.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Thursday, 16 February 2006 18:33 (nineteen years ago)

Got my ticket yesterday.

But for real, everyone should go to this,

Definitely.

Jay Vee (Manon_70), Thursday, 16 February 2006 18:41 (nineteen years ago)

should i buy a ticket in advance for fri? will i be screwed if i show up at don hills at around midnight without a ticket?

geeta (geeta), Friday, 17 February 2006 04:59 (nineteen years ago)

bump!

geeta (geeta), Friday, 17 February 2006 17:09 (nineteen years ago)

I too, will be doing the bump, tonight.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Friday, 17 February 2006 17:10 (nineteen years ago)

Get a ticket Geeta!

Jay Vee (Manon_70), Friday, 17 February 2006 17:12 (nineteen years ago)

grrr i am DJing at 17 Home tonight and so will miss this (and all of you): booo!

i will be at mfucker on sunday, though

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Friday, 17 February 2006 17:13 (nineteen years ago)

great time last night - the crowd was pretty nuts by the end! that "how soon is now?" remix was wild. (i dig the renovated don hill's too - way more open.)

can't wait for sunday!

rajeev (rajeev), Saturday, 18 February 2006 18:12 (nineteen years ago)

yeah, last night's optimo gig was fantastic! oh man i wish they played in new york every week.

tracer's dj gig was great as well! i went there too.

geeta (geeta), Saturday, 18 February 2006 18:28 (nineteen years ago)

I was only at Optimo till a little after 2, then went to No Ordinary Monkey, which was also packed and sweaty and humid as fuck so I left there around 4 though people were still showing up. Don Hills is definately better with more space.

Anyone else make it to Monkey?

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Saturday, 18 February 2006 18:30 (nineteen years ago)

i got to no ordinary monkey at around 5 a.m. after optimo had cleared out (the end of the optimo set -- around 4.30, i guess? -- was awesome...people kept begging them not to stop djing, shouts of 'one more tune! one more tune!' etc.) i was @ monkey til about 6.15 a.m when i decided to split and go to bed. yeah, it was like a sauna in there! and packed, when we got there at least.

geeta (geeta), Saturday, 18 February 2006 19:06 (nineteen years ago)

Optimo was fantastic. Still, too many douchebags standing and talking in the middle of the floor when people are wanting to dance. Ah, NYC.

Jay Vee (Manon_70), Saturday, 18 February 2006 19:13 (nineteen years ago)

Still, too many douchebags standing and talking in the middle of the floor when people are wanting to dance.

true at first, but it seemed to really open up midway through their set (maybe 3ish?) and it was golden from then till the end.

i'm curious to see what the sunday vibe will be like. i'm guessing the typical avalon crowd won't be there but motherfucker still pulls quite a cross-section, from what everyone says. i guess they're gonna be in the main chapel room though (dan, was it you that told me that? it's all foggy) so it should be a lot of fun.

rajeev (rajeev), Saturday, 18 February 2006 19:49 (nineteen years ago)

nope, I know nothing. My experiance from past motherfuckers is that they draw their own crowd, and I wouldn't be suprised if any "door policy" attitude the door "bitches" express would be to keep the avalon regulars out in favor of the hipsters, rockers, goths, geeks, etc.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Saturday, 18 February 2006 20:57 (nineteen years ago)

i really, really, really wish i went to this. come back soon guys? please?

joseph (joseph), Sunday, 19 February 2006 05:07 (nineteen years ago)

the're still here you know!

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Sunday, 19 February 2006 05:49 (nineteen years ago)

oh duh. would love to go to that but tix are a bit steep and i'm trying to be somewhat thrifty between now and...whenever i'm getting paid again.

joseph (joseph), Sunday, 19 February 2006 06:42 (nineteen years ago)

just tell them you're a friend of David Johansen's!

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Sunday, 19 February 2006 07:02 (nineteen years ago)

"you know, the 'hot hot hot' guy?"

joseph (joseph), Sunday, 19 February 2006 08:25 (nineteen years ago)

Hey!

Anyone go to Motherfucker? How was it?

Rumor is everyone's going to see Harvey at Deep Space/Cielo tonight, sure that'll be great.

We're doing another Dazzle Ships tonight (as mentioned upthread) and hoping Optimo will come by before everyone's off to Harvey and play some music or just get some beers, FAP if you will. We'll be starting around 8pm, Jeremy Campbell and I will be playing the records and I hope you all come by.

Dazzle Ships
Heathers, 506 e. 13th near A
8pm till ???
2 for 1 drinks till 9, 2$ Tecate till 10

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Monday, 20 February 2006 19:55 (nineteen years ago)

I was only at Optimo till a little after 2

you forgot to mention how you came to hear my itunes DJ for edwards birthday! but friday was so fun. don hills was great - and i got to no ordinary monkey around 4:30'ish. i love that party because i can always count on seeing all my degenerate friends there. anyhow, i stuck around until 6:30 or so.

motherfucker was fun too, but a different crowd. i got ridiculously drunk and exchanged phone numbers with someone, but i can't really remember what he looked like. cute though. but i wasn't drunk enough to get blown in the bathroom by a d-list celebrity like my friend did.

thanks optimo for fun times. oh my head hurts. i don't think i can leave my bedroom today.

phil-two (phil-two), Monday, 20 February 2006 20:36 (nineteen years ago)

oh c'mon phil, you have to come tonight! Who knows who will be blowing who!

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Monday, 20 February 2006 20:39 (nineteen years ago)

motherfucker was weird - never really got off the ground. i really liked the optimo set but the crowd wasn't too into it. guessing they wanted more rock, or more hits, or both. certainly nothing like the friday insanity.

strange party - for all the attention it gets, i was pretty unimpressed in the end. the whole 'working a look' thing was not much of an issue, but it's still not really my scene.

rajeev (rajeev), Monday, 20 February 2006 20:41 (nineteen years ago)

ok dan, bring a handsaw so we can make a gloryhole in the heathers bathroom.

phil-two (phil-two), Monday, 20 February 2006 20:42 (nineteen years ago)

You Americans live such a wild, wild life.

the pinefox, Monday, 20 February 2006 20:48 (nineteen years ago)

dear optimo-

please come to chicago.

love,

grady (grady), Monday, 20 February 2006 20:48 (nineteen years ago)

rajeev, were you in the chapel? i was by the spiral stairs going up to the dj booth most of the nite. with the faggy pink plaid neck-erchief on.

phil-two (phil-two), Monday, 20 February 2006 20:49 (nineteen years ago)

Wouldn't a drill be more appropriate for a glory hole? Oh look at this, I'm schooling you on glory holes!

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Monday, 20 February 2006 20:52 (nineteen years ago)

yeah, i was. i was on the floor across from the stairs till about 3 or so, and then i was upstairs till the end. was wearing a blue jacket - it was cold in there! i must have walked right past you!

rajeev (rajeev), Monday, 20 February 2006 20:53 (nineteen years ago)

thats true. i'll call ahead to see if there's an electrical outlet

there is a popeyes just a block away, so i could get a delicious chicken dinner before coming by.

phil-two (phil-two), Monday, 20 February 2006 20:55 (nineteen years ago)

jeremy says the taco place accross ave A is highly recommended...

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Monday, 20 February 2006 21:03 (nineteen years ago)

yeah, that motherfucker wasn't really my scene either. i couldn't really get into it and thought my set totally sucked. the result of that was drinking to forget until 1pm and feeling like hell today. dan, we'll really try to come along tonight but right now (6pm) my hangover is hurting so bad that i am incapable of movement. maybe i should join phil-two in his bedroom?

stirmonster (stirmonster), Monday, 20 February 2006 23:08 (nineteen years ago)

hott!

geeta (geeta), Monday, 20 February 2006 23:18 (nineteen years ago)

hope you can as well but if not, no sweat...Motherfucker's always been a bit of a mixed bag, but most of the times I've DJ'd there, the older club kids contingent has responded to the house that is sprinkled in my set and people have gotten into and danced in a way that can be rare in NYC. What you saw friday night is unfortunately the exception and not the rule in nyc.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Monday, 20 February 2006 23:28 (nineteen years ago)

twitch, you tease. you can come over and listen to r.kelly and max pask if you want. but sorry dan, im going to have to take a raincheck on the gloryhole. i can't put anything in my mouth today except aspirin and gatorade.

phil-two (phil-two), Monday, 20 February 2006 23:48 (nineteen years ago)

one of my finest new york dj memories = seeing dan selzer & co. play disco at centro-fly a few years back, as part of some motherfucker shindig. but yeah, that m.f. crowd...weird vibe, definitely.

i had a fantastic time at both optimo gigs! i miss them already. i'm in princeton now, where i'll be for the next day or two taking care of my ailing folks, so i can't make it out tonight. if i was in new york tonight, i'd be all about harvey + dazzle ships. right now i'm playing kraftwerk records for my six-year-old nephew. he loves kraftwerk!
