AtYD is a way-kewl song to adopt as Board Anthem, esp. as I myself am a. not young, and b. not a dude

the song itself is just marvy. i listened to the record last night to celebrate. how could one have missed it on the list? it's not like it was in smaller letters.

i am going to have to actually ask to listen to a human league cd in a record store now just so i can say i've heard "don't you want me?" maybe i should listen to a ronettes disc too.

Sundar: you're right about the 'axis', but I'm fond of it. I say: fab.

Also Sundar: jeez, don't worry about DYWM!! It's really not that great! I think that for a lot of people it has become symbolic / totemic / a statement of something; but I'm not sure a statement of what. (The only memorable lines: 'I was working as a waitress', etc. Possibly it's the music, not the lyrics, that is thought to be the 'statement'.) It's OK, or feels OK now; but really, there are other things to be seeking out or listening to - don't fret about not having heard this.

This is an aspect of Bowie I rilly rilly heart, his fannish generosity towards all kinds. It can be a bit maddening — NME had a joke abt it c.1981:"They [ie just mentioned upcoming yoofs] are are my favourite group at the moment — er, who is it we're talking about again?" — but it highlights one of his most attractive dimensions, his nervous cracked style, his transparent fan-admiration, his yearning to be other than than who he is.

Well I missed this thread the first time around - it is nearly FOURTEEN years old - but I was listening to CHIC yesterday and I must ask: who fails to be moved by the beauty of "I Want Your Love." I've had this record since I was a kid and never tore of it.

C'mon N' Ride It (The Train) was getting a lot of love in a p&j thread yesterday. Some people were unfamiliar with it, but liked it immediately upon hearing it.
