simon 803 (simon 803), Thursday, 3 April 2003 13:25 (twenty-two years ago)

"Ederlezi", the fantastic song by Goran Bregovic,
has been recorded in a number of different versions but each that i've heard has either a children's chorus or a conspicuously young lead vioce on it...
on GB's Silence Of The Balkans album the soloist is Vaska Jankovska - backed by an orchestra, a doom-voiced male chorus and a battery of electronic beats. majestic, mournful ,captivating. blows my mind every time i hear it.

t\'\'t (t\'\'t), Thursday, 3 April 2003 13:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Colin Meeder (Mert), Thursday, 3 April 2003 14:25 (twenty-two years ago)

bowies 'thursdays child' was going to have children doing BVs on the chorus.

ahmet (or possibly dwezil) zappa did a version of 'i dont wanna get drafted' [on the lost episodes, i think]and is either young or doing a fine impression of being a child

big d (big d), Thursday, 3 April 2003 15:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Busta Rhymes - "Get Out"
Frank Zappa - "Valley Girl" (Moon was only 14 at the time)

stevie wonders children make apperances in some of his songs [notably 'isnt she lovely' and 'do like you'] but thses probably dont count as there not singing.

Caetano Veloso - "If You Hold A Stone"

Magical Power Mako - "Open the Morning Window, The Sunshine Comes In, The Hope of Today is Small Bird Singing"

Annette Peacock - "Did You Hear Me Mommy?" (has her daughter not singing, but talking and playing the piano)

Hate to be a pedant, but to the person who cited the Stones' "Can't Always Get What You Want" - no way, that is a full-on adult choir.

Mr. Diamond (diamond), Thursday, 3 April 2003 16:21 (twenty-two years ago)

"The day that thatcher dies," by hefner. silly song.

Mandee, Thursday, 3 April 2003 16:23 (twenty-two years ago)

More Kiddie Choruses:
Mull Historical Society - Instead
Kenny Loggins - Heartlight (!= Neil Diamond's E.T. song)
Cyndi Lauper - Early (but that's cheating since it's from a Xmas album and if you start including Xmas albums there'll be no end to this list!)

Paul in Santa Cruz (Paul in Santa Cruz), Thursday, 3 April 2003 21:21 (twenty-two years ago)

The Chameleons - Miracles and Wonders (same deal.. sounds like a kid's playground anyway)

Paz, Friday, 4 April 2003 01:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Suede - "We Are The Pigs"

The "stupid Ride song" is in fact "I Don't Know Where It Comes From", the last vaguely decent thing they ever did (and yeah, they nicked it wholesale off the Stones obv).

Oh, and I think M.Organ's splendid "Miss Parker" should count.

Nag! Nag! Nag! (Nag! Nag! Nag!), Monday, 15 September 2003 05:50 (twenty-two years ago)

The best use of a kids' chorus ever comes at the end of Laptop's EP version of "I'm So Happy You Failed." I'm also very fond of the version of "Video Killed The Radio Star" on the Mini Pops album, which features an 8-year old doing a Trevor Horn imitation with Haley Joel Osment-level creepiness.

Jesse Fuchs (Jesse Fuchs), Monday, 15 September 2003 06:05 (twenty-two years ago)

denim has already been mentioned, but i would like to a vote in for 'it fell off the back of the lorry' which ibelieve to be the finest example of the genre...

Kent: "Dom som försvann"

Towards the end of the song, the children's choir repeats the phrase "Man blir trött på ditt jävla gnäll" to the fadeout. This translates as "One gets tired of your fucking nagging". Possibly the only case of a song with kids swearing in them (well, apart from the occasional hip-hop track, I guess).

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Thursday, 25 May 2006 11:54 (nineteen years ago)
