Walking blindly towards CD shelves, my index finger first alighted upon:

(please oh please let this work)
'caustic window' is one of richard d. james' many aliases, which he often uses to release material outside of warp records. his warp labelmate squarepusher has not done this (to my knowledge), but has done some excellent work outside of warp, including his remix of east flatbush project's 'tried by 12'. that song was also remixed by funkstorung, who have a history of working on that sort of thing, with guest mcs on their albums and a hot remix of wu-tang's 'reunited', which rza tears shit up on ('grow like a fetus / with no hands and feet to complete us / then we return like jesus / when the whole word need us'). another song on which the abbott rips it: 'bang your head' by GRAVEDIGGAZ.
As noted earlier, Fugazi arose from the fertile loam of the DC punk scene. Another notable musician that took root in that loam is Dave Grohl (who really needs to play more drums). Once upon a time, Dave Grohl had a tape released by the super-terrific Simple Machines label just before _Nevermind_ was released. The tape was called _Pocketwatch_ - it was a series of 8 tapes. Unfortunately, the success of _Nevermind_ led to many, many demands for this tape, which led Simple Machines to stop making the tapes. Which is a shame, because I doubt many people will get to hear the Mommyheads' offering to this series, which features the greatest song title EVER:
"Undress Me With Your Golf Ball".

The MC5 (whose magnetivity is unknown) kicked out the jams once upon a time. Alice Cooper was caught on VH1 offering praise to the MC5. Alice Cooper plays golf (quite well, I heard).

The middle four letters of TURBONEGRO are 'bone', and both Pixies and Tom Waits have waved their Bone Machines in our faces in the past. Pixies covered a David Lynch song on an early single, and someone who recently covered both Lynch and Waits compositions is:
PINKIE MACLURE.

[The winning conditions, as if anyone is remotely interested, were that someone would mention something to do with birthdays ON my birthday. Of course, no one even posted on Aug 7, so I've changed these conditions to something entirely different. The forum yawns.]

1) Despite toiling in almost total obscurity, the Free Design were recently shocked to learn that they were amazing big in Japan. 2) "Big in Japan" is a song by Tom Waits, who recently made the move to an indie label. 3) One of the most respected indie labels is Dischord. 4) Dischord in the home of FUGAZI.
How's that?

You win! The prize is a compact disc (sorry, you were one of the pro-analog[ue] guys, weren't you?) of your choice. The only restriction being the artist featured must begin with a letter scoring 8 points or above in Scrabble. No bonus squares allowed.
*And* you get to start Only Connect IV: Citizens On Patrol.
