This is the offical "post and react to crazy shit Fred Durst says or does" thread

cuz seriously folks, we need a clear timeline.

Recent developments:

Fred and Avril Lavigne sang "Complicated" together live and the take may appear on her upcoming live album. He may also produce tracks on her next studio album.

Fred has started a new wave side project called Pacifica, that he claims will NOT sound like Howard Jones or Flock Of Seagulls, but more like Duran Duran and Soft Cell, with a modern edge.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Saturday, 24 May 2003 17:52 (twenty-two years ago)

I've got a kind of horrified fascination with this new wave side project thing. I'm worried I may be excited by the prospect of it.

I mean, what? Is he going to SING? Like, have three pale befringed hipsters on synths and him at the front in a red baseball cap and baggy trousers?

Ferg (Ferg), Saturday, 24 May 2003 18:05 (twenty-two years ago)

classic Fred moment: Fred and Eminem were going to collaborate on a remake of Loverboy's "Turn Me Loose" but creative differences killed the project.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Saturday, 24 May 2003 18:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh christ. I am keeping my fingers crossed that Em will salvage something from that and at least sample "Turn Me Loose". And rap over it doubletime.

Nate Patrin (Nate Patrin), Saturday, 24 May 2003 19:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Are these developments made up?!

Ally (mlescaut), Sunday, 25 May 2003 03:49 (twenty-two years ago)

did Miccio start this thread cuz he felt the 'durst and the art of public statements' thread weren't respectful enough?

James Blount (James Blount), Sunday, 25 May 2003 05:01 (twenty-two years ago)

I think he did, James.

maria b (maria b), Sunday, 25 May 2003 15:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Um...doesn't someone have to actually BE creative in order to have creative differences with someone?

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Sunday, 25 May 2003 15:29 (twenty-two years ago)

her upcoming live album

I'd rather hear more about this. ;-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 25 May 2003 15:56 (twenty-two years ago)

I swear these aren't made up. I got them from MTV.com usually. I started this because I didn't want to see a new thread come up every time Fred does something crazy (which seems to be a weekly occurence). Also I'd like to see a clear timeline of events. Someday I may write I Did It All For The Nookie: The Life And Rhymes Of Fred Durst.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Sunday, 25 May 2003 19:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Unless Fred Durst can collaborate with the OTHER Fred...... Schneider, that is..... then I'll never be able to take him and his backwards-cap-wearing, Playboy-Mansion-worn-out-his-welcome-attending ass seriously.

maria b (maria b), Sunday, 25 May 2003 23:07 (twenty-two years ago)

I dig the B-52's, but there's an irony to claiming it's possible to take a man seriously until he collaborates with them. I'm hoping his additions to Avril's "Complicated" have a little Fred Schneider flava.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Sunday, 25 May 2003 23:21 (twenty-two years ago)

it's impossible, sorry.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Sunday, 25 May 2003 23:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Hey, thats an idea for a new power trio: Fred Durst, Fred Schneider and Einar Orn....and they can call their band "Annoybot Central"

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Monday, 26 May 2003 14:02 (twenty-two years ago)

I was only kidding... please, give me a reason to take the Durstman seriously, Anthony. Really, truth be told... I was intrigued when he name dropped Duran Duran as some sort of comparitive reference to where he wants to go. Not exactly what I was expecting, and maybe that's a good thing. Perhaps a sign of growth. I dunno. He's such a Howard Stern guest, you know? :)

maria b (maria b), Monday, 26 May 2003 14:04 (twenty-two years ago)

...and Howard Stern is a useless jackoff, too. Not someone to aspire to be.

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Monday, 26 May 2003 14:11 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't know if I want to tell someone to take Fred Durst seriously, but I think he's seriously enjoyable. Ever laugh at some brash but surprisingly witty yet stupid thing a frat guy did? Listening to the best songs on Chocolate Starfish and Significant Other remind me of that.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Tuesday, 27 May 2003 22:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Ever laugh at some brash but surprisingly witty yet stupid thing a frat guy did?

I'll let you know if that ever happens.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 27 May 2003 22:25 (twenty-two years ago)

This thread is the most brilliant work of experimental fiction I have ever read, you are all the same person and I claim my five hundred dollars

J0hn Darn1elle (J0hn Darn1elle), Tuesday, 27 May 2003 22:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Ned, you'd still need to graduate the earlier levels of my cool modern frat rock video game (Sugar Ray, Smashmouth) before you even think of tackling the Chocolate Starfish. Here, let me turn on the vacuum cleaner and let you pretend it's Kevin Shields...whhiiiiirrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!

Truth is stranger than fiction, John.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Tuesday, 27 May 2003 22:31 (twenty-two years ago)

let me turn on the vacuum cleaner and let you pretend it's Kevin Shields

the really weird thing is how if you listen to MBV with the vacuum cleaner turned on it sounds like Perry Como

J0hn Darn1elle (J0hn Darn1elle), Tuesday, 27 May 2003 22:34 (twenty-two years ago)

yow! Now we know how to stage Ned's dream-pop intervention!

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Tuesday, 27 May 2003 22:36 (twenty-two years ago)

He's clearly aiming for that black-velvet painting chest look.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Sunday, 29 June 2003 22:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Somehow it would have been more in keeping with him if he put that on his ass.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 29 June 2003 22:50 (twenty-two years ago)

You're right, Ned, Nirvana does sound like shitty Limp Bizkit (sorta maybe kinda!).

How many Kurt Cobain and Elvis TOGETHA tatoos are there in the world?

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Sunday, 29 June 2003 22:55 (twenty-two years ago)

three months pass...
I'm reviving this thread in memory of the late Fred Durst. I'm assuming his dead because of the "Behind Blue Eyes" video doesn't make the ILX collective beat him to death nothing will.

It's on launch.com. It's probably the funniest thing I've seen all week. And btw, I think the song sucks so don't ask me to defend this as anything more than The Crazy Shit Fred Durst Says Or Does.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Tuesday, 21 October 2003 01:39 (twenty-two years ago)

fuck. typo. I'm assuming HE'S dead, cuz IF...

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Tuesday, 21 October 2003 01:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Halle Berry has Durst cooties! My world is crumbling as I type.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 21 October 2003 13:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Fred Durst, I hereby decry that your birthday shall be moved to the beginning of August, and you will be reassigned as a Cancer. I have taken a vote, and myself, KRS-One, Robert Plant, Isaac Hayes, even Connie fucking Chung, among many others, have decided you don't deserve to share a birthday with us. We were willing to let it slide until now, but your crimes against humanity via your unacceptable actions with a Ms. Halle Berry are absolutely unforgivable. Please proceed to the exit immediately. There will be no refunds.

Asylums with doors open wide,
Where people had paid to see inside,
For entertainment they watch his body twist
Behind his eyes he says, 'I still exist.'

This is the way, step inside.
This is the way, step inside.
This is the way, step inside.
This is the way, step inside.

In arenas he kills for a prize,
Wins a minute to add to his life.
But the sickness is drowned by cries for more,
Pray to God, make it quick, watch him fall.

This is the way, step inside.
This is the way, step inside.
This is the way, step inside.
This is the way, step inside.

from Durst's praise of Slipknot's new album on his blog American Alien

"certain musical notes in specific variations of sequences are a foundation for universal communication. instinct. an understanding beyond our mind's ability to formulate. it's fucking amazing to say the least. more powerful than any weapon ever created. music. damn."

CeCe Peniston (Anthony Miccio), Monday, 21 June 2004 23:15 (twenty-one years ago)

I suddenly realize that I am all in favor of Durst blowing all his money on procuring the sweet sweet crack that causing him to write shit like that.

from carlinglive.com interview with Fred Durst:

carlinglive.com: If Ben & Jerrys made an ice-cream called Limp Bizkit, what would it taste like?

Fred Durst: “It would taste like the sweetest pair of panties in the world. It would taste like sushi. Sushi or panties.”

VH1: A lot of artists have said that they've turned to music [in the face of 9/11] because they get some sense of relief from it. Have you been listening to any music? Have you written any new songs?

Durst: I listen to older music to inspire me. I'm not listening to anything like [Lee Greenwood's] "God Bless the U.S.A." or [Bruce Springsteen's] "Born in the U.S.A." I'm listening to more melancholy music that's sentimental, sad. The Cure, Bad Company, Frank Sinatra.

from his blog

"if i could only hide the feelings of disgust i feel when i feel them i think i would seem like a better person to the judgmental and stereotypical world looking in. when i hurt i hurt from the inside out and constantly run from it throughout the course of its destructive path. the thing i can always expect is the unexpectable. just when a comfort level of confidence comes along is when i could predict the unpredictable is around the corner. it's like my gut instinct is always talking to me louder than anything else and that is why i am always listening to it. regardless of the situations i've been put in because of my instinct i can sleep at night knowing i was listening to myself, even if it would have been wiser to listen to an outsider at the time. there is something to be said about those of us who are driven by something inside us yet beyond us. it's like a sixth sense that gets overlooked when when rationality and common sense take all the credit in our minds...

RS: So, what did you do last night?

Fred: I was watching the Mike Tyson fight at Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell’s house. I know Goldie’s daughter Kate Hudson.

RS:Would that have happened before you became famous?

Fred: Fuck no. This kinda shit I get off on. I’m at parties with Jack Nicholson, Dana Carvey. I’m at places where they hang out - I’m on all the A lists. You get rock-star parking.

Cruise: It's going good, man. It's cool. She's a cool lady.

Durst: Is she cool to snuggle with?

Cruise: [Laughs] Yes. She is man. She is a great snuggler. She is cool.

Durst: She is very cool.

Cruise: You met her?

Durst: Yeah, I met her with you.

Cruise: Yeah, she's nice.

Durst: Yeah, she's so nice and sweet.

Cruise: She's just really cool, really easy.

From Rollingstone.com

RS: What musicians have tried to hit on you, besides Fred Durst?

Avril: [Laughs] It doesn't happen a lot. [Backstage at a Metallica tribute] I mentioned to Fred that I was hungry -- like, "I want an In-N-Out burger." He had someone go out and get me a whole box of them, with fries. I was like [sarcastically], "Yeah!" Then he took a private jet out to one of my shows, expecting me to bang him. He was disappointed that I wouldn't even go near him [laughs]. He was a little pissed that I went to my room alone that night.

anthony did you see the making the album show on MTV for Results May Vary? Was there a thread for that?

sadly, I have seen neither this or Driven: Fred Durst. I read the article on MTV.com describing key scenes, but it's just not the same.

I did see a Limp Bizkit live special on MTV filmed in London (HAW HAW HAW nobody's throwing shit at him there! Brits are totally still limpin' for the bizkit).

Key Fred Stage Moves:

1) run around the stage as if you are jumping through tires. Knees HIGH.

2) during slow parts, sway idly while singing at and pointing to girls in the audience.

3) If you are feeling something, announce this observation and ask if the audience are having a similar experience. Suggest the making of noise.

4) during the loud parts, jump up and down while flapping your elbows so that you resemble a chicken on steroids.

sadly, I have seen neither this or Driven: Fred Durst. I read the article on MTV.com describing key scenes, but it's just not the same.

Wow, that is sad. It was like an all week thing. Everything has been downhill since.

five months pass...
UPDATE!!! AND LOOKEE AT THE SHIRT!!!

http://www.limpbizkit.com/images/lb050107_11.jpg

i have been in prague, and i am still here, putting vocals on the new album. the world has so many wonders to it. the czech people are a very interesting society. i do enjoy it. this album is dark musically already, but when mixed with the tone in the air of prague it becomes somewhat horrifying.

wes, ross, and myself have set up protools and a beta 57 microphone in an old apartment right near the charles bridge. this is where i am connecting with the darkness. some days are explosive others just plain heavy from the gothic aesthetic of this city in general. we have gone to the other side a few times with absinthe to discover the unknown. as it seems the unknown is quite demanding these days.

we have watched no television or listened to no radio. we walk everywhere we go on cobblestone streets. the beggers bow down, as if they were praying, and hold their hands out for money. much different than the states. the weather is very cold and unforgiving. the perfect call for where my head needed to be.

as for updates on this site or anywhere else, you know we are finishing our new album which we consider the best of limp bizkit. definitely the heaviest and most consistant in intention. so i can only emphasize that this needs room to grow its wings on its own and does not need to have its innocense and freedom taken away by every detail that could be provided along the way until it is ready to take off on its own. that time is very near. we have created a monster that cannot be kept down for long.

it's time to gather the troops. what do you think?

fred from prague

wasn't it dave q. who suggested that the smiths/joy division/the cure/echo and the bunnymen et. al. were at least partly responsible for the likes of durst?

Eisbär (llamasfur), Saturday, 12 February 2005 02:50 (twenty-one years ago)

So, is the whole reason for the band's rider always demanding the "dimly lit" thing for their rooms mainly because Fred doesn't want the world to know that his bright blue eyes are custom contact lenses? (You can clearly see his eyes are brown in that demo tape)

donut christ (donut), Saturday, 12 February 2005 02:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Pop beauty Jessica Simpson has slammed "absolutely untrue" reports of her alleged dalliance with rock lothario Fred Durst in Las Vegas last weekend. Local Nevada newspaper Las Vegas Review-Journal columnist Norm Clarke claimed Simpson and the Limp Bizkit frontman "were all over each other" at the Hard Rock Hotel, with the singer's husband Nick Lachey nowhere in sight. Simpson's spokesman says, "Jessica and Fred Durst have mutual friends and were both at the event. The rest is absolutely untrue." Fred Durst's baby cure
http://www.femalefirst.co.uk/celebrity/44632004.htm
June 9, 2005, 12:26:21

Limp Bizkit star Fred Durst downs baby drinks to get rid of a hangover.
The hardman rocker swears by the juice for toddlers, called Pedialyte, as a quick pick-me-up after a heavy night of drinking.
British presenter Vernon Kay said the musician introduced him to the miracle cure on a recent trip to Miami - and was amazed by the results.
He revealed: "I met Fred Durst in Miami and he told me about this baby drink called Pedialyte.
I swear to God, half an hour later you feel as right as rain."
Fred's favourite flavour is blackcurrant. Mine is apple.

Ha, "hardman rocker".

Supposedly Fred's gonna backpedal on his No Hype, Just MUSIC stance and make one big video for The Unquestionable Truth (Part 1), and using whichever song the fans vote for. Currently "The Priest" is winning and I couldn't be happier. It's the best song on the album and it means we'll get to watch Fred do the whole "should I send my kid to Sunday school? SO YOU CAN FUCK HIM?!?!?!?!" deal.

miccio (miccio), Tuesday, 14 June 2005 18:08 (twenty years ago)

It would help, it's for babies that are dehydrated from diarrhoea. A hangover is partly dehydration because alcohol causes you to urinate more. Those sportswater drinks will have a similar effect though, or water with some glucose in. Wow, Im glad my physiology paper I took this year paid off, now I can post replies in a Fred Durst thread.

Limp Bizkit singer Fred Durst has been given a suspended 120-day jail sentence after he allegedly hit two people with his car on purpose.

Durst, 37, pleaded no contest to seven charges, including assault, battery and reckless driving, at a court hearing in Los Angeles last month.

He was also ordered to perform 20 hours of community service and fined $1,500 (£750), according to court documents.

The incident took place in Los Angeles during October last year.

Restraining order

Misdemeanour charges filed in January included two counts of assault with a deadly weapon, three counts of battery, one count of making a criminal threat and one count of reckless driving.

Durst, who entered the no contest plea on 16 August, was slapped with a restraining order saying he cannot "annoy, harass, strike, threaten or otherwise disturb the peace" of the two victims, whose names were not disclosed.

The singer was told he must stay at least 100 yards away from the victims and that he cannot possess a firearm.

A telephone message left after office hours on Friday with The Firm, the Beverly Hills representatives for Durst and Limp Bizkit, was not immediately returned, the Associated Press news agency said.

Well worth watching until about 12:30 minutes in where Durst stands up to show off a tattoo, sits down and zones out, then stands up five seconds later to show off the tattoo again.

http://www.rollingstone.com/rockdaily/index.php/2009/06/18/fred-durst-limp-bizkit-was-used-as-fuel-to-torture-other-people/

Before Limp Bizkit emerged from a four-year hiatus with a series of shows last month in Europe, Fred Durst had to get over his hatred of a segment of his own fanbase. “I got abused a lot growing up,” Durst tells Rolling Stone. “For years I looked into the crowd and saw a bunch of bullies and assholes who tortured me and ruined my life. They were using my music as fuel to torture other people, even dressing like me. The music was being misinterpreted and the irony effected me and we stepped away.”

According to Durst, he endured childhood ridicule over his taste in music. “I loved the Cure and Bauhaus and the Smiths,” he says. “The people in my town weren’t privy to that kind of music and I got abused. I discovered the microphone to get out some of that angst.” Durst put down the microphone in 2005 and directed two feature films, before reuniting with guitarist Wes Borland and the rest of Limp Bizkit earlier this year. “I realized after years and years that I can’t take all of that on my shoulders,” he says. “I can just hope for the best and hope that my music finds its way to the people that I’m trying to connect with. There’s some people who are not understanding what Limp Bizkit is about. But, then again, who am I to tell people what they can use art for or how they can interpret it?”

Even though Durst is hoping his music won’t connect with bullies, Limp Bizkit are playing their first American show with guitarist Wes Borland in eight years at an Ultimate Fighting Championship event July 10th in Las Vegas. “I’ve just always liked watching people who are very skilled in all different types of fighting, going to engage with a little less boundaries,” says Durst. “These fights are put together in an organized way. I wouldn’t support Limp Bizkit being on some snuff backyard brawling, fighting contest.” The Vegas show is a one-off, but Durst promises the band is thinking about a U.S. tour, which won’t happen until they’re done prepping a new album they hope to release in the fall.

“The style is not going to disappoint any true, hardcore Limp Bizkit fans,” Durst says. “But it also isn’t going to alienate anyone that else who is going to discover Limp Bizkit for the first time. It’s kinda going to change the game a little bit, but still stay Limp Bizkit — if that makes any sense.”

Even as he crafts a new Bizkit album, Durst says that rap/rock isn’t very close to his heart. “I don’t even listen to any type of music that’s like Limp Bizkit at all,” he says. “I love jazz music and sad music. I’m a sentimental guy. I’m a romantic guy. I’m 38 years old and Limp Bizkit is just something I do. If I was a painter, it would just be a type of painting I make. Some people love it, and its offends a lot of people too.”
