Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Wednesday, 23 July 2003 09:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Sorry about the multi-choice posting! There's just so much great stuff to recommend. Pete b. was spot on about Mobb Deep - that's probably the very best 90's hip hop single.

Further recommendations:
Rza - Tragedy

Company Flow - 8 Steps to Perfection
LL Cool J - I Shot Ya (Remix)

pete b. (pete b.), Wednesday, 23 July 2003 10:05 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm totally grateful for all recommendations but I want to download stuff so I need a manageable list :) - the Top 100 format allows lots of ILXers to get a say which is why I like its silly semi-randomness.

Anyway time to listen to some of the stuff you've all been mentioning!

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Wednesday, 23 July 2003 10:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Again, pete b is very OTM with Souls Of Mischief - 93 Til Infinity

Make that one of your first listens!

Actually I'm surprised by how much of this stuff I do know, maybe I'm not as ignorant of this era as I thought, it's just I own lots of comps and tracks here and there and very few albums (but who wants albums).

We can make it Top 500 or something, I'll get to them all eventually.

All of these rappers are terrible execpt gangstar, puplic enemy, De La, Del, S.O.M., KRS, and tribe F*** everyone else im sick of people thinking that a top hip hop song should consist of trashy lyrics and catchy beats some people need to wake up and relize that all of these so-called-rappers have no skill. It takes no talent to rap about guns, bitches, niggers and weed. And its funny how most, if not all of these rappers grew up in nice ass neighborhoods yet they claim that they're gangbangers and lived on the streets, rapping about how hard and rough there past life was man F*** that. Personally Atmosphere Overcast should be at the top. And screw anyone who supported these no talent "rappers" in making millions and dicking over true mc's such as sage,j-live and slug.

Does anybody know a tune that has these lyrics:

"this is how it feels to be a neighborhood queen" (roughly translated, hell I could be completely off)

It was played on the radio station 1490 AM in Tucson 13 years ago, once.

It could have been some local female rapper but I'm not sure.

She talks about her CKs (calvin kleins)

Triggity, Thursday, 22 February 2007 07:45 (eighteen years ago)

God, can "Back That Azz Up" really be from the '90s? I'm adding it.

pleeeease someone answer this, I have been wanting to know the original since I heard it sampled in Bill Drummond and Zodiac Mindwarp's pseudonymous fake-Finnish Elvis impersonator's version of In The Ghetto on a 7" in 1997!!!

!

you live in a space battle homo cave (sic), Tuesday, 2 March 2010 02:33 (fifteen years ago)

argh, I still don't think the lyrics are the same! definitely sounds like the cadence slowed down though, maybe Z and King Boy D made up their own version to sample?
