Coming in and out of thread like Beavis and Butthead as fathered by Paul Morley. What I want you to do is to say something that will astound me and make me believe that any of you are geniuses.

Waiting on a Miracle, Wednesday, 20 August 2003 12:48 (twenty-two years ago)

bit sad when someone doesn't post a thread using their own name.

*tentative real child-like tentative* Welcome back Marcello?

David. (Cozen), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 12:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Are the cards you're making Valentines?

Tom (Groke), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 12:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Marcello Carlin, Wednesday, 20 August 2003 12:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Maybe they are Halloween cards?

Larcole (Nicole), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 12:56 (twenty-two years ago)

(Cool, Marcello.)

David. (Cozen), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 12:56 (twenty-two years ago)

i thought this was a doomie thread

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 12:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Or perhaps he is going to be sending them each a deck of Garbage Pail Kids cards? If that's the case, I am jealous.

Larcole (Nicole), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 12:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Maybe they're 'Congratulations Yr A Genius' cards?

person#0 (person#0), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 12:57 (twenty-two years ago)

what does "i'm making your cards" mean? who's paul morley?

Fritz Wollner (Fritz), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 12:57 (twenty-two years ago)

fake ID cards?

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 12:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Maybe they're 'Congratulations Yr A Genius' cards?
-- person#0 (personzer...), August 20th, 2003.

You got the joke!

(cue: end of thread)

Waiting on a Miracle, Wednesday, 20 August 2003 12:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Not exactly Chris Morris.

Larcole (Nicole), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 13:00 (twenty-two years ago)

you should write it like "ethan (trife)" if you want all the cards to match up

Fritz Wollner (Fritz), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 13:02 (twenty-two years ago)

You got the joke!

I assure you it wasn't intentional, honest.

person#0 (person#0), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 13:02 (twenty-two years ago)

genii you leper

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 13:07 (twenty-two years ago)

i dont quite understand this thread doomie, could you explain a little further?

gareth (gareth), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 13:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Just read an article on how some people 'gloss' over words and correct them - i.e. Marking and Making. Wanted to see how many people picked up on it and how many people did not. It was an interesting thread. Cheers!

Waiting on a Miracle, Wednesday, 20 August 2003 13:11 (twenty-two years ago)

I assumed that you had meant to write marking, but wasn't feeling nitpicking enough to mention it... what does this tell you about me then?

person#0 (person#0), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 13:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Have to go but when I get back I will link the article.

Waiting on a Miracle, Wednesday, 20 August 2003 13:16 (twenty-two years ago)

i think i may have missed the context to this thread, because i dont understand what anyone is saying

gareth (gareth), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 13:17 (twenty-two years ago)

if some nightmare scenario occured and we no longer existed as corporeal beings and all that remained was our ilx textual selves then we'd see more threads like this.

mitch lastnamewithheld (mitchlnw), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 13:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, guess what...

Thy Lethal Zen Ned (Ned), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 13:37 (twenty-two years ago)

The gist of the article is the ole left-side/right-side brain debate. Those who spotted it tend to be more literal, etc and those who did not tend to be more creative, etc. Am waiting for some psych professors at the moment and read a series of exercises that subjects participated in. Purdy cool, huh?

Waiting on a Miracle, Wednesday, 20 August 2003 13:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Hmm it's strange that, cos most of the personality tests I take (I'm one of those people that derives perverse self-analytical pleasure in doing so) say I fall on the creative side (and like to draw lines from this to the fact I'm left-handed), so me picking up on this is unexpected if what you say is true.

However, I didn't notice it at first, only after I'd read it a few times. But anyway.

person#0 (person#0), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 13:44 (twenty-two years ago)

I think for it to work effectively it has to be an instant response and not thought about. I'm left-handed as well!

Waiting on a Miracle, Wednesday, 20 August 2003 13:48 (twenty-two years ago)

It's Scaredy Cat.

Larcole (Nicole), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 14:05 (twenty-two years ago)

"Hmm it's strange that, cos most of the personality tests I take (I'm one of those people that derives perverse self-analytical pleasure in doing so) say I fall on the creative side"

Aaaaaaah! But doesn't the fact that you take these tests and derive pleasure from being self-analytical suggest that you're more literal?

Catch 22?

Or just evidence that it's all a load of bollocks?

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 14:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Door number two, please

person#0 (person#0), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 14:18 (twenty-two years ago)

But what does "I'm MARKING your cards" mean?

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 14:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Something to do with bingo?

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 14:35 (twenty-two years ago)

It means: 'Keeping an Eye on You' probably derived from bingo? Google to thread.

Waiting on a Miracle, Wednesday, 20 August 2003 14:39 (twenty-two years ago)

"Your card is marked" = "I've got my eye on you", usually in a threatening manner. I believe it's originally a bridge term.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 14:43 (twenty-two years ago)

I've just got the delightful image of bridge players menacingly threatening each other, mafia-style!

person#0 (person#0), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 14:44 (twenty-two years ago)

marking cards is a card-player's way of cheating... knowing what the other player (or dealer) has.

(hahahaha, ok, i can't believe i have to do this but due to being 'called out' in chat recently and asked what was up... 1) i did not start this thread, 2) yes, i did just a post a parody of the thread starter without logging myself out.. )

mark p (Mark P), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 16:53 (twenty-two years ago)

it looks like hank's dad from king of the hill!!

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 16:54 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah, mark i'm pouting for real

obviously

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 16:54 (twenty-two years ago)

but i still have every right to delete it, especially if no one really CAN give me a reason for its existence (mitch's photo is closest so far)

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 16:57 (twenty-two years ago)

jess if that was the criteria then half of ilm and three quarters of ile etc

mark p (Mark P), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 17:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Larcole (Nicole), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 17:03 (twenty-two years ago)

b-b-b-b-ut it was a mind experimant about making/marking you a Genius card (or something), jess!

Fritz Wollner (Fritz), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 17:06 (twenty-two years ago)

hey mark, how's yr reading comp:

Can threads be deleted? What is locking a thread?

Threads can be deleted but we don't like to do it often and will not delete a thread apart from in exceptional circumstances. These include:

- Personal threads. If a thread is started discussing a registered user or their actions, that user has the right to ask for it to be deleted or locked. The thread does not have to be an attack on the user. This does not apply to threads users start themselves and later regret.

have you looked at this place lately? i don't feel like arguing this/with you.

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 17:08 (twenty-two years ago)

(and yr right, if i could delete 75% of posters/threads these days, i would. but one has to follow the rules.)

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 17:10 (twenty-two years ago)

This thread is WHOLLY EVIL and it makes me sad. :(

Ian SPACK (Ian SPACK), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 17:16 (twenty-two years ago)

i dunno, i tend to think that threads like these (see also: the ´secret´ custos hate thread which was about 100x more confrontational and spiteful than this one) dont do much other than make the poster look like a total wank

this thread basically consisted of one really cheesy jibe followed by some smarmy backtracking and a lot of communal eyerolling in doomies direction

seems pretty alright to me

mark p (Mark P), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 17:27 (twenty-two years ago)

haha yeah because it's not YOUR NAME in the thread title

jesus mark, piss off

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 17:28 (twenty-two years ago)

i mean, i'm not exactly running scared from fear of a doomie logitical beatdown, but i don't really like the idea of a thread existing where people have a ready made forum to post shit about me. just because they haven't done yet, doesn't mean they won't/can't.

''Is there still a copy of this secret custos hate thread???''

I'm sure its in the archives. As I recall Jess wasn't listed in the top ten (I was, for some reason).

I just love the way that Doomie tried to dress up this thread as anything other than an attack on these posters. He actually proved there was a point to him besides telling everybody how great poptones is.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Thursday, 21 August 2003 07:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Jess if you want to avoid ppl using this thread for later bashing-you purposes then just lock it, I think the original poster is made to look a complete chump on it so his 'victims' come off rather well.

-- Ronan August 20th, 2003. (later)

Oh ok it's this one

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 21 August 2003 09:40 (twenty-two years ago)

oh custos did a thread where he listed the worst ilm posters (oh the motherfuckin irony) under an assumed name and i outed him about it
You're wrong about that, jess.
I didn't post that thread.
I told you that.

"Is there still a copy of this secret custos hate thread???"
The one (I think) jess is talking about isn't a "Custos hates everybody" thread. (There is no such an animal); It was "some shmuck hates everybody, Custos included."; It was merely posted from one of the 20 computers (most of them public) that I've posted from in the past.
I'm not the perp, I'm one of the victims.

Perhaps it was, "I'm marking you, cads"?

Hey thats a typo I'd make and this ain't my thread.
