Defend the indefensible: Jim Morrison's lyrics
Start with a lyric that you hate and someone will surely disagree and we'll go through that until we find something that none of us can defend. I don't think you need to listen to the song to say whether you like it or not, just look at the lines.
I think there was a thread on this but with songs and I don't think we found one that everyone hated. I suspect the same will happen here.

I did it all for the nookieC'monThe nookieC'monSo you can take that cookieAnd stick it up your, yeah!!Stick it up your, yeah!!Stick it up your, yeah!!Why did it take so long? Why did I wait so long, huhTo figure it out? but I did itAnd I'm the only one underneath the sun who didn't get itI cant believe that I can be deceivedBy my so called girl, but in realityHad hidden agendaShe put my tender heart in a blenderAnd still I surrenderedHey, like a chump
I'm only humanIts so easy for your friends to give you their adviceThey tell you to let it goBut its easier said then doneI appreciate itI do, but just leave me aloneLeave me aloneJust leave me alone!!Just leave me alone!Aint nothin' gonna changeIf you can go awayIm just gonna stay here and always be the sameAint nothin' gonna changeIf you can go awayIm just gonna stay here and always be the sameAint nothin' gonna changeIf you can go awayIm just gonna stay here and always be the same

And sometimes when we touchThe honesty's too muchAnd I have to close my eyes and hideI wanna hold you til I dieTil we both break down and cryI wanna hold you till the fear in me subsides
Romance and all its strategyLeaves me battling with my prideBut through the insecurity Some tenderness survivesI'm just another writerStill trapped within my truthA hesitant prize fighterStill trapped within my youth
At times I'd like to break you And drive you to your kneesAt times I'd like to break throughAnd hold you endlessly
At times I understand you And I see how hard you've triedI've watched while love commands youAnd I've watched love pass you by
At times I think we're driftersStill searching for a friendA brother or a sisterBut then the passion flares again

You line them upLook at your shoesYou hang names on your wallThen you shoot them all
You fly around in planesThat bring you downTo meet me who loves you, likeMe crashing to the ground
Are you so lonely?Don't even know meBut you'd like to stone me
Mr Writer, why don't you tell it like it is?Why don't you tell it like it really is?Before you go on home
― joni, Saturday, 23 August 2003 14:34 (twenty-two years ago)
So I'll start by saying that:
there are some OK lines in ben's song
for Lord Byron's I quite like these (so bad its good actually):
''At times I'd like to break you And drive you to your kneesAt times I'd like to break throughAnd hold you endlessly''
The 'stone me' bit on mr.writer is v funny.

"I Just ShotJohn Lennon"
It was the fearful night of December 8th.
He was returning home from the studio late.
He had perseptively known that it wouldn't be nice.
Because in 1980, he paid the price.
John Lennon died. [X6]
With a Smith & Wesson 38,
John Lennon's life was no longer a debate.
He should have stayed at home,
He should have never cared,
And the man who took his life declared,
He said I just shot John Lennon.
What a sad and sorry and sickening sight.
What a sad and sorry and sickening night.
Ah, ah ah ah, ah...
I just shot John Lennon.

Would you like to talk about it? There’s not much to say.We had lunch this afternoon. her life’s in disarray. She still goes around as if she is always stumbling off a cliff.Do you still want her? What are you saying? Do you still want her? Baby stop playing.Really, I mean it. can you forget her? Baby, now stop it. you should know better.I know this is hard to do. but, there’s no one for me but you and
You can thank your lucky stars that we’re not as smart as we’d like to think we are.
Baby, I’m sorry, I was wrong, I have no alibis.I was acting like a fool and I apologize.Listen, hon’, I know you’re dumb, but that’s o.k., you don’t have to look so glum.Do you still love me? Yes, I still love you.You mean, you’re not just being nice. No, I’m not just being nice.Do you feel sleepy.Aw, you’re so sincere. yes, I feel sleepy.Well, slide over here. ’cause I may not be all that bright, but I know how to hold you tight and,
You can thank your lucky stars that we’re not as smart as we’d like to think we are andYou can thank your lucky stars that we’re not as smart as we’d like to think we are andWe can thank our lucky stars that we’re not as smart as we’d like to think we are.

One mile to every inch ofYour skin like porcelainOne pair of candy lips andYour bubblegum tongue
'Cause if you want loveWe'll make itSwimming a deep seaOf blanketsTake all your big plansAnd break 'emThis is bound to be a while
Your body Is a wonderlandYour body is a wonder (I'll use my hands)Your body Is a wonderland
Something 'bout the way the hair falls in your faceI love the shape you take when crawling towards the pillowcaseYou tell me where to go andThough I might leave to find itI'll never let your head hit the bedWithout my hand behind it
you want love? We'll make itSwimming a deep seaOf blanketsTake all your big plansAnd break 'emThis is bound to be a while

They love to tell you Stay inside the lines But something's better On the other side
I wanna run through the halls of my high school I wanna scream at the Top of my lungs I just found out there's no such thing as the real world Just a lie you've got to rise above
So the good boys and girls take the so called right track Faded white hats Grabbing credits Maybe transfers They read all the books but they can't find the answers And all of our parents They're getting older I wonder if they've wished for anything better While in their memories Tiny tragedies
I wanna run through the halls of my high school I wanna scream at the Top of my lungs I just found out there's no such thing as the real world Just a lie you got to rise above
I am invincible As long as I'm alive
I just can't wait til my 10 year reunion I'm gonna bust down the double doors And when I stand on these tables before you

We've seen alot of riots, we just sit and scoff We've seen alot of muggings, and the judges let them off
We've got to do something, to try and stop the rot The traitors that have used us, they should all be shot
Are we going to sit and let them come Have they got the White man on the run Multi-racial society is a mess We ain't gonna take much more of this What do we need?

billy joel´s "piano man" if full of clunkers
There's an old man sitting next to meMakin' love to his tonic and gin
He says, "Son, can you play me a memoryI'm not really sure how it goesBut it's sad and it's sweet and I knew it completeWhen I wore a younger man's clothes."
Yes, they're sharing a drink they call lonelinessBut it's better than drinkin' alone
And the piano, it sounds like a carnivoreAnd the microphone smells like a beer

If it's actually "carnivore," it's by far the finest moment in Billy Joel's career.

yes, why would you engage in conversation an old man with his dick in his drink?
― rob, Tuesday, 7 June 2011 17:37 (fourteen years ago)
and when does anyone call it a "tonic and gin"?

when they want to force a dumb rhyme
― unmetalled world (wk), Tuesday, 7 June 2011 17:41 (fourteen years ago)
when they are trying to shoehorn it into a rhyme scheme:
It's nine o'clock on a SaturdayThe regular crowd shuffles inThere's an old man sitting next to meMakin' love to his tonic and gin
xp: lol

"Russians"
In Europe and America, there's a growing feeling of hysteriaConditioned to respond to all the threatsIn the rhetorical speeches of the SovietsMr. Krushchev said we will bury youI don't subscribe to this point of viewIt would be such an ignorant thing to doIf the Russians love their children too
How can I save my little boy from Oppenheimer's deadly toyThere is no monopoly in common senseOn either side of the political fenceWe share the same biologyRegardless of ideologyBelieve me when I say to youI hope the Russians love their children too
There is no historical precedentTo put the words in the mouth of the PresidentThere's no such thing as a winnable warIt's a lie we don't believe anymoreMr. Reagan says we will protect youI don't subscribe to this point of viewBelieve me when I say to youI hope the Russians love their children too
We share the same biologyRegardless of ideologyWhat might save us, me, and youIs if the Russians love their children too

Made me think of Springsteen's "speedball" in "Glory Days." Not only does nobody call a fastball a speedball, but it wasn't even done to shoehorn a rhyme in.
― shake it, shake it, sugary pee (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Tuesday, 7 June 2011 17:43 (fourteen years ago)
I just checked to see if that could be a drug double entendre and... not really, lol
― low-rent black gangster nicknamed Bootsy (DJP), Tuesday, 7 June 2011 17:44 (fourteen years ago)
It might be an old synonym for a fastball that's fallen out of favor... I know in Japan they still call the fastball pitch a "speedball"
― it's a meme i made and i like (Steve Shasta), Tuesday, 7 June 2011 17:49 (fourteen years ago)
those Sting lyrics are better than the Cranberries lyrics in terms of intention, but yes they are terrible

I vote for this obvious choice:
Watching the people get lairyIt's not very pretty I tell theeWalking through town is quite scaryIt's not very sensible eitherA friend of a friend he got beatenHe looked the wrong way at a policemanWould never of happened to SmeatonAn old leodensianI predict a riotI predict a riotI predict a riotI predict a riotI tried to get to my taxiThe man in a tracksuit attacks meHe said that he saw it before meAnd wants to get things a bit goryGirls scrabble round with no clothes onTo borrow a pound for a condomIf it wasn't for chip fat they'd be frozenthey're not very sensibleI predict a riotI predict a riotI predict a riotI predict a riotAnd if there's anybody left in hereThat doesn't want to be out thereWatching the people get lairyIt's not very pretty I tell theeWalking through town is quite scaryIt's not very sensibleI predict a riotI predict a riotI predict a riotI predict a riotAnd if there's anybody left in hereThat doesn't want to be out thereI predict a riotI predict a riotI predict a riotI predict a riot

― low-rent black gangster nicknamed Bootsy (DJP), Tuesday, 7 June 2011 18:17 (fourteen years ago)
You know, if "tonic and gin" didn't rhyme, you could almost defend it with the idea that maybe it's implying that the drinks are weak. As in a sarcastic "would you like some gin with your tonic?" But obviously he just did it for the rhyme.
― unmetalled world (wk), Tuesday, 7 June 2011 18:18 (fourteen years ago)
I like the indirect implication in the context of the lyrics that it's easier to stick your dick into a weak drink
― low-rent black gangster nicknamed Bootsy (DJP), Tuesday, 7 June 2011 18:19 (fourteen years ago)
yeah, initially I was trying to figure out if it meant that he fucked the tonic, then the gin, in that order. but it seems like the act of insertion would have a mixing effect that would make it really too hard to judge what was going on.
― unmetalled world (wk), Tuesday, 7 June 2011 18:33 (fourteen years ago)
iirc, tonic and gin was the name of his dog.

She sits alone waiting for suggestionsHe's so nervous avoiding all the questionsHis lips are dry, her heart is gently poundingDon't you just know exactly what they're thinking
If you want my body and you think I'm sexyCome on sugar let me know.If you really need me just reach out and touch meCome on honey tell me soTell me so baby
He's acting shy looking for an answerCome on honey let's spend the night togetherNow hold on a minute before we go much furtherGive me a dime so I can phone my motherThey catch a cab to his high rise apartmentAt last he can tell her exactly what his heart meant
If you want my body and you think I'm sexyCome on honey tell me soIf you really need me just reach out and touch meCome on sugar let me know
His heart's beating like a drum'Cuz at last he's got this girl homeRelax baby now we are alone
They wake at dawn 'cuz all the birds are singingTwo total strangers but that ain't what they're thinkingOutside it's cold, misty and it's rainingThey got each other neither one's complainingHe say's I sorry but I'm out of milk and coffeeNever mind sugar we can watch the early movie
If you want my body and you think I'm sexyCome on sugar let me knowIf you really need me just reach out and touch meCome on honey tell me so
If you really need me just reach out and touch meCome on sugar let me knowIf you really, really, really, really need meJust let me knowJust reach out and touch meIf you really want meJust reach out and touch meCome on sugar let me knowIf you really need me just reach out and touch meCome on sugar let me knowIf you, if you, if you really need meJust come on and tell me so
(P.S. - the music's just as bad as the lyrics...)

ust gonna stand thereAnd watch me burnBut that's alrightBecause I likeThe way it hurtsJust gonna stand thereAnd hear me cryBut that's alrightBecause I loveThe way you lieI love the way you lieI love the way you lie
I can't tell you what it really isI can only tell you what it feels likeAnd right now there's a steel knifeIn my windpipeI can't breatheBut I still fightWhile I can fightAs long as the wrong feels rightIt's like I'm in flightHigh of a loveDrunk from the hateIt's like I'm huffing paintAnd I love it the more that I sufferI sufficateAnd right before im about to drownShe resuscitates meShe fucking hates meAnd I love itWaitWhere you goingI'm leaving youNo you ain'tCome backWe're running right backHere we go againIt's so insaneCause when it's going goodIt's going greatI'm SupermanWith the wind in his bagShe's Lois LaneBut when it's badIt's awfulI feel so ashamedI snapWho's that dudeI don't even know his nameI laid hands on herI'll never stoop so low againI guess I don't know my own strength
Just gonna stand thereAnd watch me burnBut that's alrightBecause I likeThe way it hurtsJust gonna stand thereAnd hear me cryBut that's alrightBecause I loveThe way you lieI love the way you lieI love the way you lie
You ever love somebody so muchYou can barely breatheWhen you're with themYou meetAnd neither one of youEven know what hit 'emGot that warm fuzzy feelingYeah them chillsUsed to get 'emNow you're getting fucking sickOf looking at 'emYou swore you've never hit 'emNever do nothing to hurt 'emNow you're in each other's faceSpewing venomAnd these wordsWhen you spit 'emYou pushPull each other's hairScratch, claw, bit 'emThrow 'em down
Pin 'emSo lost in the momentsWhen you're in 'emIt's the rage that took overIt controls you bothSo they say it's bestTo go your separate waysGuess that they don't know yaCause todayThat was yesterdayYesterday is overIt's a different daySound like broken recordsPlayin' overBut you promised herNext time you'll show restraintYou don't get another chanceLife is no Nintendo gameBut you lied againNow you get to watch her leaveOut the windowGuess that's why they call it window pane
Now I know we said thingsDid thingsThat we didn't meanAnd we fall backInto the same patternsSame routineBut your temper's just as badAs mine isYou're the same as meBut when it comes to loveYou're just as blindedBaby please come backIt wasn't youBaby it was meMaybe our relationshipIsn't as crazy as it seemsMaybe that's what happensWhen a tornado meets a volcanoAll I know isI love you too muchTo walk away thoughCome insidePick up your bags off the sidewalkDon't you hear sincerityIn my voice when I talkTold you this is my faultLook me in the eyeballNext time I'm pissedI'll aim my fistAt the dry wallNext timeThere will be no next timeI apologizeEven though I know it's liesI'm tired of the gamesI just want her backI know I'm a liarIf she ever tries to fucking leave againI'mma tie her to the bedAnd set the house on fire

High, higher than the sun You shoot me from a gun I need you to elevate me here At the corner of your lips At the orbit of your hips Eclipse, you elevate my soul
I've lost all self control Been living like a mole Now going down, excavation I and I in the sky You make me feel like I can fly So high, elevation
A star lit up like a cigar Strung out like a guitar Maybe you could educate my mind Explain all these controls I can't sing but I've got soul The goal is elevation
A mole, living in a hole Digging up my soul Going down, excavation I and I in the sky You make me feel like I can fly So high, elevation
Love, lift me out of these blues Won't you tell me something true I believe in you
A mole, living in a hole Digging up my soul Now going down, excavation I and I in the sky You make me feel like I can fly So high, elevation

Do I have to change my name Will it get me far Should I lose some weight Am I gonna be a star
I tried to be a boy I tried to be a girl I tried to be a mess I tried to be the best I guess I did it wrong That’s why I wrote this song
This type of modern life Is it for me This type of modern life Is it for free
So, I went into a bar Looking for sympathy A little company I tried to find a friend It’s more easily said It’s always been the same
This type of modern life Is not for me This type of modern life Is not for free
American life (American life) I live the American dream (American dream) You are the best thing I’ve seen You are not just a dream (American life)
I tried to stay ahead I tried to stay on top I tried to play the part But somehow I forgot Just what I did it for And why I wanted more
I tried to be a boy Tried to be a girl Tried to be a mess Tried to be the best Tried to find a friend Tried to stay ahead I tried to stay on top
Oh Oh Oh Oh
I’m drinkin’ a soy latte, I get a double shotty It goes right through my body and you know I’m satisfied I drive my Mini Cooper and I’m feeling super-duper Yo they tell I’m a trooper and you know I’m satisfied I do yoga and pilates and the room is full of hotties So I’m checkin’ out the bodies and you know I’m satisfied I’m diggin’ on the isotopes, this metaphysics shit is dope And if all this can give me hope you know I’m satisfied I got a lawyer and a manager, an agent and a chef Three nannies, an assistant and a driver and a jet A trainer and a butler and a bodyguard or five A gardener and a stylist, do you think I’m satisfied I’d like to express my extreme point of view I’m not a Christian and I’m not a Jew I’m just livin’ out the American dream And I just realized that nothin’ is what it seems
Do I have to change my name Am I gonna be a star Do I have to change my name
