Defend the indefensible: Jim Morrison's lyrics

Start with a lyric that you hate and someone will surely disagree and we'll go through that until we find something that none of us can defend. I don't think you need to listen to the song to say whether you like it or not, just look at the lines.

I think there was a thread on this but with songs and I don't think we found one that everyone hated. I suspect the same will happen here.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Saturday, 23 August 2003 11:13 (twenty-two years ago)

I came into this world as a reject
Look into these eyes
Then you'll see the size of these flames
Dwellin on the past
Its burnin' up my brain
Everyone that burns has to learn from the pain
Hey I think about the day
My girlie ran away with my pay
When fellas come to play
No she stuck with my homeez that she fucked
And I'm just a sucker with a lump in my throat
Hey, like a chump
Should I be feelin' bad? No
Should I be feelin good? No
Its kinda sad I'm the laughin' stock of the neighborhood
You would think that I'd be movin' on
But I'm a sucker like I said
Fucked up in the head, not!!
Maybe she just made a mistake
I should give her a break
My heart will ache either way
Hey, what the hell
Watcha want me to say
I wont lie that I cant deny

I did it all for the nookie
C'mon
The nookie
C'mon
So you can take that cookie
And stick it up your, yeah!!
Stick it up your, yeah!!
Stick it up your, yeah!!
Why did it take so long?
Why did I wait so long, huh
To figure it out? but I did it
And I'm the only one underneath the sun who didn't get it
I cant believe that I can be deceived
By my so called girl, but in reality
Had hidden agenda
She put my tender heart in a blender
And still I surrendered
Hey, like a chump

I'm only human
Its so easy for your friends to give you their advice
They tell you to let it go
But its easier said then done
I appreciate it
I do, but just leave me alone
Leave me alone
Just leave me alone!!
Just leave me alone!
Aint nothin' gonna change
If you can go away
Im just gonna stay here and always be the same
Aint nothin' gonna change
If you can go away
Im just gonna stay here and always be the same
Aint nothin' gonna change
If you can go away
Im just gonna stay here and always be the same

What's new pussycat? Woah, Woah
What's new pussycat? Woah, Woah
Pussycat, Pussycat
I've got flowers
And lots of hours
To spend with you.
So go and powder your cute little pussycat nose!
Pussycat, Pussycat
I love you
Yes, I do!
You and your pussycat nose!
What's new pussycat? Woah, Woah
What's new pussycat? Woah, Woah
Pussycat, Pussycat
You're so thrilling
And I'm so willing
To care for you.
So go and make up your cute little pussycat face!
Pussycat, Pussycat
I love you
Yes, I do!
You and your pussycat face!
What's new pussycat? Woah, Woah
What's new pussycat? Woah, Woah
Pussycat, Pussycat
You're delicious
And if my wishes
Can all come true
I'll soon be kissing your sweet little pussycat lips!
Pussycat, Pussycat
I love you
Yes, I do!
You and your pussycat lips!
You and your pussycat eyes!
You and your pussycat nose!

damn this thread is over quickly.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Saturday, 23 August 2003 14:11 (twenty-two years ago)

You ask me if I love you
And I choke on my reply
I'd rather hurt you honestly
Than mislead you with a lie
And who am I to judge you
On what you say or do?
I'm only just beginning to see the real you

And sometimes when we touch
The honesty's too much
And I have to close my eyes and hide
I wanna hold you til I die
Til we both break down and cry
I wanna hold you till the fear in me subsides

Romance and all its strategy
Leaves me battling with my pride
But through the insecurity
Some tenderness survives
I'm just another writer
Still trapped within my truth
A hesitant prize fighter
Still trapped within my youth

And sometimes when we touch
The honesty's too much
And I have to close my eyes and hide
I wanna hold you til I die
Til we both break down and cry
I wanna hold you till the fear in me subsides

At times I'd like to break you
And drive you to your knees
At times I'd like to break through
And hold you endlessly

At times I understand you
And I see how hard you've tried
I've watched while love commands you
And I've watched love pass you by

At times I think we're drifters
Still searching for a friend
A brother or a sister
But then the passion flares again

And sometimes when we touch
The honesty's too much
And I have to close my eyes and hide
I wanna hold you til I die
Til we both break down and cry
I wanna hold you till the fear in me subsides

Lord Byron Lived Here, Saturday, 23 August 2003 14:30 (twenty-two years ago)

obvious i know, but......

You line them up
Look at your shoes
You hang names on your wall
Then you shoot them all

You fly around in planes
That bring you down
To meet me who loves you, like
Me crashing to the ground

Are you so lonely?
Don't even know me
But you'd like to stone me

Mr Writer, why don't you tell it like it is?
Why don't you tell it like it really is?
Before you go on home

joni, Saturday, 23 August 2003 14:34 (twenty-two years ago)

I like it also that ppl are not telling what the artist or the songs are so if you like it could be more embarrassing.

So I'll start by saying that:

there are some OK lines in ben's song

for Lord Byron's I quite like these (so bad its good actually):

''At times I'd like to break you
And drive you to your knees
At times I'd like to break through
And hold you endlessly''

The 'stone me' bit on mr.writer is v funny.

The cops are well-groomed, with
Muscled physiques in butt town
Their tan uniforms are tailored in chic
In butt town
Any young black male who walks down the street
Is gonna get stopped by a car full of meat
But the girl with the hair
Flies by in her underwear-

SheÕs done nothing so far to deserve that car
When you live in butt town
You gotta get down
But in butt town IÕm learninÕ
In butt town IÕm earninÕ
In butt town IÕm turninÕ
Into my worst nightmare

IÕm tellinÕ you, itÕs a motley crew in butt town
Monday youÕre new, and friday youÕre through
In butt town
The producer is wily, and owns what he sells
The talent is eager to go straight to hell
Th tits are amazing, and everyoneÕs gazing
At some body part-
ThatÕs the nature of art in butt town

All over butt town dreams have a show down
All over butt town values are thrown down
But in butt town IÕm learninÕ
In butt town IÕm earninÕ
In butt town IÕm turninÕ
Into my worst nightmare

In butt town baby
IÕm gonna be a star
IÕm gonna shake my butt far
Now here we go
IÕm gonna shake my butt
Shake my butt shake my butt
In butt town

(well, maybe this one is more of an everybody-loves lyric)

I like "What's New Pussycat"!

here's one I despise:

You've got your ball
you've got your chain
tied to me tight tie me up again
who's got their claws
in you my friend
Into your heart I'll beat again
Sweet like candy to my soul
Sweet you rock
and sweet you roll
Lost for you I'm so lost for you

You come crash into me
And I come into you
I come into you
In a boys dream
In a boys dream

Touch your lips just so I know
In your eyes, love, it glows so
I'm bare boned and crazy for you
When you come crash
into me, baby
And I come into you
In a boys dream
In a boys dream

If I've gone overboard
Then I'm begging you
to forgive me
in my haste
When I'm holding you so girl
close to me

Oh and you come crash
into me, baby
And I come into you
Hike up your skirt a little more
and show the world to me
Hike up your skirt a little more
and show your world to me
In a boys dream.. In a boys dream

Oh I watch you there
through the window
And I stare at you
You wear nothing but you
wear it so well
tied up and twisted
the way I'd like to be
For you, for me, come crash
into me

You're walking. And you don't always realize it,
but you're always falling.
With each step you fall forward slightly.
And then catch yourself from falling.
Over and over, you're falling.
And then catching yourself from falling.
And this is how you can be walking and falling
at the same time.

I'm just here for dictation
I don't wanna be a sensation
Being on 60 Minutes
Was it worth your fifteen minutes?

Don't touch my breast
I'm just working at my desk
Don't put me to the test
I'm just doing my best

Shopping at Maxfields
Power for you to wield
Dreamed of going to the Grammies
Til you poked me with your whammy

You spin the disk
Now you're moving your wrist
I'm just from Encino
Why are you so meano?

I'm just here for dictation
I'm not your summer vacation
You really like to shmooze
Well now you're on the news

I'm from Sherman Oaks
Just a wheel in the spokes
But I ain't giving you head
In a Sunset bungalow

Mister Snrub (MisterSnrub), Saturday, 23 August 2003 19:24 (twenty-two years ago)

ok - this is an obvious one but....

I'm afraid of the dark,
'specially when I'm in a park
And there's no-one else around,

Ooh, I get the shivers
I don't want to see a ghost,
It's a sight that I fear most
I'd rather have a piece of toast
And watch the evening news
(Repeat Chorus)

I'm a superstitious girl,
I'm the worst in the world
Never walk under ladders,
I keep a rabbit's tail

I'll take you up on a dare,
Anytime, anywhere
Name the place, I'll be there,
Bungee jumping, I don't care!
(Repeat Chorus)

life, doo, doot dooo
doo, doot dooo

So after all is said and done
I know I'm not the only one
Life indeed can be fun, if you really want to

Sometimes living out your dreams,
Ain't as easy as it seems
You wanna fly around the world,
In a beautiful balloon
(Repeat Chorus)

"I Just ShotJohn Lennon"

It was the fearful night of December 8th.

He was returning home from the studio late.

He had perseptively known that it wouldn't be nice.

Because in 1980, he paid the price.

John Lennon died. [X6]

With a Smith & Wesson 38,

John Lennon's life was no longer a debate.

He should have stayed at home,

He should have never cared,

And the man who took his life declared,

He said I just shot John Lennon.

He said I just shot John Lennon.

What a sad and sorry and sickening sight.

What a sad and sorry and sickening night.

What a sad and sorry and sickening sight.

What a sad and sorry and sickening night.

Ah, ah ah ah, ah...

I just shot John Lennon.

He said I just shot John Lennon.

What a sad and sorry and sickening sight.

What a sad and sorry and sickening night.

What a sad and sorry and sickening sight.

What a sad and sorry and sickening night.

Ah, ah ah ah, ah...

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Saturday, 23 August 2003 22:50 (twenty-two years ago)

What are you crazy? how in the hell can you say what you just said?
I was talking to myself. shut the door and come to bed.
By the way, I forgot to say, your endearing mother called today.
Did you see lisa?
Yes I saw lisa.
Is that why you're angry?
I wasn’t angry.
Maybe a little.
Not even maybe.
Must be the weather.
Now don’t be a baby.
We’ll how am I supposed to feel with all the things you don’t reveal and you can thank your lucky stars that we’re not as smart as we’d like to think we are.

Would you like to talk about it?
There’s not much to say.
We had lunch this afternoon. her life’s in disarray.
She still goes around as if she is always stumbling off a cliff.
Do you still want her?
What are you saying?
Do you still want her?
Baby stop playing.
Really, I mean it. can you forget her?
Baby, now stop it. you should know better.
I know this is hard to do. but, there’s no one for me but you and

You can thank your lucky stars that we’re not as smart as we’d like to think we are.

Baby, I’m sorry, I was wrong, I have no alibis.
I was acting like a fool and I apologize.
Listen, hon’, I know you’re dumb, but that’s o.k., you don’t have to look so glum.
Do you still love me?
Yes, I still love you.
You mean, you’re not just being nice.
No, I’m not just being nice.
Do you feel sleepy.
Aw, you’re so sincere. yes, I feel sleepy.
Well, slide over here. ’cause I may not be all that bright, but I know how to hold you tight and,

You can thank your lucky stars that we’re not as smart as we’d like to think we are and
You can thank your lucky stars that we’re not as smart as we’d like to think we are and
We can thank our lucky stars that we’re not as smart as we’d like to think we are.

David Merryweather (DavidM), Saturday, 23 August 2003 22:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Seems three years
Though maybe four
Someone drops dead
Whom I adore
You love someone
There will be grief
The kiss of death
Lips of a thief
Goddamnit

A dusty stack of photographs
Of times I cried But mostly laughed
Commit the past Into blue flame
Acrid smoke
Cowardly shame
Goddamnit

At times I'm truly terrified
Cause dope and booze don't help to hide
They're used to mask a weakling's hurt
It's just like painting over dirt

Everyone I love is dead
Everyone I love is dead
(All dead)

Life's a game I cannot win
Both good and bad must surely end
The mirrors always tell the truth
I love myself for hating you

Everyone I love is dead
Everyone I love is dead
Everyone I love is dead
Everyone I love is dead
Goddamnit
Goddamnit
All dead

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Sunday, 24 August 2003 01:12 (twenty-two years ago)

I believe that the end to that Cranberries lyrics is pronounced "Gonz".

How about the immortal Chris Rea line :-

"There are women and children on boats on the sea / Crying and dying like Jews / Do you like Tennis?"

Lynskey (Lynskey), Sunday, 24 August 2003 01:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, yeah, "Swimsuit Issue" is s'posed to be feminist, but if I wanted to attack feminism (but why, exactly?) I'd have posted something by Northern State:

The country’s getting ugly and there’s more in store
But don’t blame me ’cause I voted for Gore
Keep choice legal
And your wardrobe regal
Chekov wrote "The Seagull"
Snoopy is a beagle

... but I really don't see how that's really any worse than:

You say you a gangsta but you never pop nuttin
We say you a wanksta and you need to stop frontin
You go to the dealership but you never cop nuttin
You been hustlin a long time and you ain't got nuttin

Anyhoo... the actual moral of the story is: Don't let your friends enlist art critics into their band.

Joshua Houk (chascarrillo), Sunday, 24 August 2003 04:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Looking good plenty time
Tell me is there any more room for me
In those jeans
Pretty thick like I like it
Tell me
is there any more room for me
In those jeans
Looking tasty really scrumptious
Tell me is there any more room for me

In those jeans
Looking good plenty time
Is there any more room for me
In those jeans

[Verse 1]
Got on my ride seen you from a far
And I couldn't stop myself from looking hard
You wore these jeans
Girl you wore
these jeans and you
Made a thug wanna cry something terrible
I had to have, have you for myself baby
You don't know
what those jeans do to me
Make me wanna get down on one knee
You got that thunder
And it only makes me wonder how it
feels
To get up in those jeans
Oh those jeans

[Chorus]

[Verse 2]
You are the bomb
Girl you tight to death
I don't know the words to say to you
All that i know, baby all i know is
that
I'm loving what I see and I'm feeling you
I wanna know, all I wanna know is if
I could have what's up in those
jeans
Baby can I have what's up in those jeans
Don't get alarmed cause I don't mean no harm
But I love the way you
wear those jeans
Levis, Prada, BabyPhat, I love them
Love the way you, wearing them I love them can
Calvin, Iceberg,
Sergio, I love them
Trying to get inside of those
Yeah Yeah Yeah

[Chorus]

[Verse 3]
I wanna say that them jeans looking good fitting right
Baby damn those jeans
Any kind doesn't matter you could win 'em

Baby damn those jeans
Anytime that I see you I want in, you wear them well
Baby damn those jeans
You

All I wanna know is can I have what's in those jeans
Can I get in those can I baby

[Chorus]

i was lying on the grass on sunday morning of last week
indulging in my self defeats
my mind was thugged, all laced and bugged, all twisted round and beat
uncomfortable three feet deep
now the fuzzy stare from not being there on a confusing morning week
impaired my tribal lunar-speak
and of course you can't become if you only say what you would have done
so i missed a million miles of fun

i know it's up for me
if you steal my sunshine
making sure i'm not in too deep
if you steal my sunshine
keeping versed and on my feet
if you steal my sunshine

i was frying on the bench slide in the park across the street
l-a-t-e-r that week
my sticky paws were into making straws out of big fat slurpy treats
an incredible eight foot heap
now the funny glare to pay a gleaming tear in a staring under heat
involved an under usual feat
and i'm not only among but i invite who i want to come
so i missed a million miles of fun

i know it's up for me
if you steal my sunshine
making sure i'm not in too deep
if you steal my sunshine
keeping versed and on my feet
if you steal my sunshine

i know it's done for me
if you steal my sunshine
not as some and hard to see
if you steal my sunshine
keeping dumb and built to beat
if you steal my sunshine

my sunshine
if you steal my sunshine

I mean, they don't actually say "...drugs. DRUGS. Do you see?", but they might as well.

We were in a small cafe
You could hear the guitars play
It was very nice
It was paradise..

Just a funny thing, I'm forever drifting into dreams
Just not the proper thing, to always be drifting into dreams...

Vicious, you hit me with a flower
You do it every hour
Oh, baby you're so vicious
Vicious, you want me to hit you with a stick
But all I've got is a guitar pick
Oh baby, you're so vicious...

Actually pick your own Lou Reed lyrics at random and you've got a winner

kevin brady (groeuvre), Sunday, 24 August 2003 09:53 (twenty-two years ago)

They said, "I bet they'll never make it"
But just look at us holding on
We're still together still going strong

(You're still the one)
You're still the one I run to
The one that I belong to
You're still the one I want for life

Shania Twain - You're Still the One

Call me overly sensitive, but, that "I 'belong' to" just sounds so...creepy.

We got the afternoon
You got this room for two
One thing I've left to do
Discover me
Discovering you

One mile to every inch of
Your skin like porcelain
One pair of candy lips and
Your bubblegum tongue

'Cause if you want love
We'll make it
Swimming a deep sea
Of blankets
Take all your big plans
And break 'em
This is bound to be a while

Your body Is a wonderland
Your body is a wonder (I'll use my hands)
Your body Is a wonderland

Something 'bout the way the hair falls in your face
I love the shape you take when crawling towards the pillowcase
You tell me where to go and
Though I might leave to find it
I'll never let your head hit the bed
Without my hand behind it

you want love?
We'll make it
Swimming a deep sea
Of blankets
Take all your big plans
And break 'em
This is bound to be a while

Your body Is a wonderland
Your body is a wonder (I'll use my hands)
Your body Is a wonderland

Damn baby
You frustrate me
I know you're mine all mine all mine
But you look so good it hurts sometimes

Your body Is a wonderland
Your body is a wonder (I'll use my hands)
Your body Is a wonderland
Your body is a wonderland

To take a lot of pain, take a lot of pain
Love is like a cloud, it holds a lot of rain
Love hurts, Ooo-oo Love hurts

ahem ...

Jay K (Jay K), Monday, 25 August 2003 08:17 (twenty-two years ago)

"Welcome to the real world", she said to me
Condescendingly
Take a seat
Take your life
Plot it out in black and white
Well I never lived the dreams of the prom kings
And the drama queens
I'd like to think the best of me
Is still hiding
Up my sleeve

They love to tell you
Stay inside the lines
But something's better
On the other side

I wanna run through the halls of my high school
I wanna scream at the
Top of my lungs
I just found out there's no such thing as the real world
Just a lie you've got to rise above

So the good boys and girls take the so called right track
Faded white hats
Grabbing credits
Maybe transfers
They read all the books but they can't find the answers
And all of our parents
They're getting older
I wonder if they've wished for anything better
While in their memories
Tiny tragedies

They love to tell you
Stay inside the lines
But something's better
On the other side

I wanna run through the halls of my high school
I wanna scream at the
Top of my lungs
I just found out there's no such thing as the real world
Just a lie you got to rise above

I am invincible
As long as I'm alive

I wanna run through the halls of my high school
I wanna scream at the
Top of my lungs
I just found out there's no such thing as the real world
Just a lie you've got to rise above

I just can't wait til my 10 year reunion
I'm gonna bust down the double doors
And when I stand on these tables before you

dave q, Monday, 25 August 2003 09:25 (twenty-two years ago)

(somebody actually DID run through my high school once telling us there was 'no such thing as the real world'. He was wearing pink tights and was covered in fluorescent spray paint, waving a hockey stick. He was detained and sent to an expensive rehab place in Arizona for 8 months, his parents could afford it as they were local politicians and what a big scandal this was! I saw him after he returned, and the first thing he said to me was (16 RPM voice) "You know pyramids? Most of them are underground, you know!" My high school should've been called 'Scanner Darkly Academy'!)

jay K- I love that song and those are good lyrics to me.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Monday, 25 August 2003 09:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh so verbose, all of you!

I'm moved to trump the lot of you with this simple 11-word "effort", *guaranteed* to send you running for the nearest WMD:

"And that's a good line to take it to the bridge"

Time, gentlemen, please, ain't you got homes to go to?

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Monday, 25 August 2003 12:01 (twenty-two years ago)

The Len lyrics are grebt, as is "Love Hurts" and the Northern State ones. Those "Life" lyrics by The Woman Who Sounded A Bit Like Sade are great too, they're fucking insane! Also, "Vicious" by Lou Reed has been redeemed by the ILX "fishies" version.

Julio and Daniel - "Love is like a cloud, it holds a lot of rain" ???????????????????

Jay K (Jay K), Monday, 25 August 2003 23:25 (twenty-two years ago)

ok that bit isn't good but the rest of it is v fine and it doesn't damage the song or anything (funnily when I heard it my brain blocked it out and the same here when reading it).

But if you are gonna pick that one: its lame, not sure if i hate it tho'.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 07:15 (twenty-two years ago)

"I stand and watch my country, going down the drain
We are all at fault now, we are all to blame
We're letting them take over, we just let them come
Once we had an Empire, but now we've got a slum

(Chorus)
White Power, for England
White Power, today
White Power, for Britain
Before it gets too late

We've seen alot of riots, we just sit and scoff
We've seen alot of muggings, and the judges let them off

We've got to do something, to try and stop the rot
The traitors that have used us, they should all be shot

Are we going to sit and let them come
Have they got the White man on the run
Multi-racial society is a mess
We ain't gonna take much more of this
What do we need?

If we don't win our battle, and all does not go well
It's apocalypse for Britain, and we'll see you all in Hell."

Or possibly:

"Young teacher,
The subject,
Of school girl fantasy.
She wants him,
So badly,
Knows what she wants to be.
Inside her,
There's longing,
This girl's an open page.
Book marking,
She's so close now,
This girl is half his age.

Chorus:
Dont stand, dont stand so,
Dont stand so close to me
(repeat)

Her friends are so jealous,
You know how bad girls get.
Sometimes it's not easy,
To be the teacher's pet.
Temptation, frustration,
So bad it makes him cry.
Wet bus stop,
She's waiting,
His car is warm and dry,

Chorus

Loose talk in,
The classroom,
To hurt they try and try.
Strong words in,
The staff room,
The accusations fly.
It's no use,
He sees her,
He starts to shake and cough,
Just like that,
Old man in,
That book by Nabikov.

Chorus"

I'm not entirely sure which is worse....

Julio - I get you, but still ... anyway, you're excused, especially if this song somehow coincided with your teenage years. everybody is excused for everything they loved while growing up...
I, for once, love

Bangles: Eternal Flame
George Michael: Careless Whisper
Guns'n'Roses: Sweet Child o'Mine

because evil teenagehood implanted these songs under my skin...

Under my thumb
The girl who once had me down
Under my thumb
The girl who once pushed me around
It's down to me
The difference in the clothes she wears
Down to me, the change has come,
She's under my thumb
Ain't it the truth babe?
Under my thumb
The squirmin' dog who's just had her day
Under my thumb
A girl who has just changed her ways
It's down to me, yes it is
The way she does just what she's told
Down to me, the change has come
She's under my thumb
Ah, ah, say it's alright
Under my thumb
A siamese cat of a girl
Under my thumb
She's the sweetest, hmmm, pet in the world
It's down to me
The way she talks when she's spoken to
Down to me, the change has come,
She's under my thumb
Ah, take it easy babe
Yeah
It's down to me, oh yeah
The way she talks when she's spoken to
Down to me, the change has come,
She's under my thumb
Yeah, it feels alright
Under my thumb
Her eyes are just kept to herself
Under my thumb, well I
I can still look at someone else
It's down to me, oh that's what I said
The way she talks when she's spoken to
Down to me, the change has come,
She's under my thumb
Say, it's alright.
Say it's all...
Say it's all...
Take it easy babe
Take it easy babe
Feels alright
Take it, take it easy babe

Two lovers kissing amongst the scream of midnight
Two lovers missing the tranquility of solitude

That's Entertainment - The Jam
Actually, I don't think this is going to work. With few exceptions (morrison, dylan) lyrics are written to work in the song, with the music. Taken out of context some are bound to sound weak, and written out there's none of the meaning or expression - think how much Pulp lose when the lines are typed out. Yes, some lyrics are excruciating, but if they 'sound' right then that's probably what the writer meant.

And that goes for all you punks in the press
That want to start shit by printin' lies instead of the things we said
That means you
Andy Secher at Hit Parader
Circus Magazine
Mick Wall at Kerrang
Bob Guccione Jr. at Spin,
What you pissed off cuz your dad gets more pussy than you?
Fuck you
Suck my fuckin' dick

You be rippin' off the fuckin' kids
While they be payin' their hard earned money to read about the bands
They want to know about
Printin' lies startin' controversy
You wanta antagonize me
Antagonize me motherfucker
Get in the ring motherfucker
And I'll kick your bitchy little ass
PUNK

I don't like you, I just hate you
I gonna kick your ass,
Oh yeah! Ohyeah!

You may not like our integrity yeah
We built a world out of anarchy
Oh yeah!

AND IN THIS CORNER WEIGHING IN AT 850 POUNDS- GUNS N' ROSES

Get in the ring
Yeah

Yeah this song is dedicated to
All the Guns n'fuckin' Roses fans
Who stuck with us through all the Fucking shit
And to all those opposed...
Hmm...well

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Wednesday, 27 August 2003 11:23 (twenty-two years ago)

1. "Get In The Ring" has the coolest lyrics on Earth.

2. I still think my Robbie line trumps ALL of the above. But then I would.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Wednesday, 27 August 2003 11:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Reading it through again it's Axl's usage of "be" that really "antagonizes" me.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 27 August 2003 13:50 (twenty-two years ago)

I'll second "You're Having My Baby". Having a pregnant wife at this moment, I can't imagine telling her that what's she's going through is a beautiful expression of her love for me. I'd likely get punched in the face instead of her joining me in a duet.

BrianB, Wednesday, 27 August 2003 14:05 (twenty-two years ago)

"why not? It fits in with gn'r."

True... but WAR could make pretty much anything "fit in" with G N' R if he felt like it... now I am no longer 12 years old that song is the low point of their recording career I have to say.

Truly horrible....

Grandma needs new dentures
To eat the crust on pizza
Been taken out by her daughter
Because she thought she oughta
The kids are eating Snickers
Because they're so delicious
Then there's sticky fingers
And mother loses her knickers
Bank holiday comes six times a year
Days of enjoyment to which everyone cheers
Bank holiday comes with a six pack of beer
Then it's back to work
A-g-a-i-n
Barbecue is cooking
Sausages and chicken
The patio is buzzing
And neighbors they are looking
John is down the fun pub
Drinking lots of lager
Girls and boys are on the game
And all the high streets look the same

billy joel´s "piano man" if full of clunkers

There's an old man sitting next to me
Makin' love to his tonic and gin

He says, "Son, can you play me a memory
I'm not really sure how it goes
But it's sad and it's sweet and I knew it complete
When I wore a younger man's clothes."

Yes, they're sharing a drink they call loneliness
But it's better than drinkin' alone

And the piano, it sounds like a carnivore
And the microphone smells like a beer

Michael B, Tuesday, 7 June 2011 17:16 (fourteen years ago)

"Russians"

In Europe and America, there's a growing feeling of hysteria
Conditioned to respond to all the threats
In the rhetorical speeches of the Soviets
Mr. Krushchev said we will bury you
I don't subscribe to this point of view
It would be such an ignorant thing to do
If the Russians love their children too

How can I save my little boy from Oppenheimer's deadly toy
There is no monopoly in common sense
On either side of the political fence
We share the same biology
Regardless of ideology
Believe me when I say to you
I hope the Russians love their children too

There is no historical precedent
To put the words in the mouth of the President
There's no such thing as a winnable war
It's a lie we don't believe anymore
Mr. Reagan says we will protect you
I don't subscribe to this point of view
Believe me when I say to you
I hope the Russians love their children too

We share the same biology
Regardless of ideology
What might save us, me, and you
Is if the Russians love their children too

I vote for this obvious choice:

Watching the people get lairy
It's not very pretty I tell thee
Walking through town is quite scary
It's not very sensible either
A friend of a friend he got beaten
He looked the wrong way at a policeman
Would never of happened to Smeaton
An old leodensian
I predict a riot
I predict a riot
I predict a riot
I predict a riot
I tried to get to my taxi
The man in a tracksuit attacks me
He said that he saw it before me
And wants to get things a bit gory
Girls scrabble round with no clothes on
To borrow a pound for a condom
If it wasn't for chip fat they'd be frozen
they're not very sensible
I predict a riot
I predict a riot
I predict a riot
I predict a riot
And if there's anybody left in here
That doesn't want to be out there
Watching the people get lairy
It's not very pretty I tell thee
Walking through town is quite scary
It's not very sensible
I predict a riot
I predict a riot
I predict a riot
I predict a riot
And if there's anybody left in here
That doesn't want to be out there
I predict a riot
I predict a riot
I predict a riot
I predict a riot

You know, if "tonic and gin" didn't rhyme, you could almost defend it with the idea that maybe it's implying that the drinks are weak. As in a sarcastic "would you like some gin with your tonic?" But obviously he just did it for the rhyme.

unmetalled world (wk), Tuesday, 7 June 2011 18:18 (fourteen years ago)

I like the indirect implication in the context of the lyrics that it's easier to stick your dick into a weak drink

low-rent black gangster nicknamed Bootsy (DJP), Tuesday, 7 June 2011 18:19 (fourteen years ago)

yeah, initially I was trying to figure out if it meant that he fucked the tonic, then the gin, in that order. but it seems like the act of insertion would have a mixing effect that would make it really too hard to judge what was going on.

unmetalled world (wk), Tuesday, 7 June 2011 18:33 (fourteen years ago)

She sits alone waiting for suggestions
He's so nervous avoiding all the questions
His lips are dry, her heart is gently pounding
Don't you just know exactly what they're thinking

If you want my body and you think I'm sexy
Come on sugar let me know.
If you really need me just reach out and touch me
Come on honey tell me so
Tell me so baby

He's acting shy looking for an answer
Come on honey let's spend the night together
Now hold on a minute before we go much further
Give me a dime so I can phone my mother
They catch a cab to his high rise apartment
At last he can tell her exactly what his heart meant

If you want my body and you think I'm sexy
Come on honey tell me so
If you really need me just reach out and touch me
Come on sugar let me know

His heart's beating like a drum
'Cuz at last he's got this girl home
Relax baby now we are alone

They wake at dawn 'cuz all the birds are singing
Two total strangers but that ain't what they're thinking
Outside it's cold, misty and it's raining
They got each other neither one's complaining
He say's I sorry but I'm out of milk and coffee
Never mind sugar we can watch the early movie

If you want my body and you think I'm sexy
Come on sugar let me know
If you really need me just reach out and touch me
Come on honey tell me so

If you really need me just reach out and touch me
Come on sugar let me know
If you really, really, really, really need me
Just let me know
Just reach out and touch me
If you really want me
Just reach out and touch me
Come on sugar let me know
If you really need me just reach out and touch me
Come on sugar let me know
If you, if you, if you really need me
Just come on and tell me so

(P.S. - the music's just as bad as the lyrics...)

I've got this jones formin in my bones
from a man
who indeed took over my soul
understand
I couldn't breathe if he ever said
he would leave
get on my knees til they bloody red
beggin please
see I don't know if you get it yet
just don't know
he's like a lighter to my cigarette
watch me smoke
I never knew another human life
didn' t know
could have the power to take over mine
so baby

Baby baby baby baby baby
baby I love you
baby baby baby baby baby
I love it when I hear your name
got me sayin
baby baby baby baby baby
baby I love you
baby baby baby baby baby

See I can never feel alone with you
in my life
I'll give up everything I own for you
won't think twice
almost ashamed how I'm mesmerised
such a shame
I lose my thought lookin in your eyes
I know why
because your kisses make my lips quiver
and that's real
and when you touch me my whole body shivers
I can feel
now I can see how another life
another life
could have the power to take over mine
cause you're my

Baby baby baby baby baby
baby I love you
baby baby baby baby baby
I love it when I hear your name
got me sayin
baby baby baby baby baby
baby I love you
baby baby baby baby baby

Break it down

Baby I can see my worth
living here on God's green earth
you don't know what you've done to me
I never thought i'd need you desperately
it's kinda sick how I'm stuck on you
but I don't care cause I'm needin you
and how I feel will remain the same
cuz you're my baby

And when the world starts to stress me out
will I run
it's to you boy without a doubt
you're the one
who keeps me sane and I can't complain
can't complain
you're like a drug you relieve my pain
may seem strange
you're like the love flowin through my veins
ooh ooh ooh
keeps me alive and feedin my brain
ooh ooh ooh
now this is how another human life
another life
could have the power to take over mine
cause you're my

No no no
he does not want to depress you
oh no no no no no
he only wants to impress you
Bengali in platform
she only wants to embrace your culture
and to be your friend forever
Bengali, Bengali
oh shelve your Western plans
and understand that life is hard enough when you belong here
A silver-studded rim that glistens
and an ankle-star that...blinds me
a lemon sole so very high
which only reminds me, to tell you
so I break the news gently
I break the news to you gently
"Shelve your plans"
Bengali, Bengali
its the touchy march of time
that blinds you
don't blame me
don't hate me
just because I'm the one to tell you
that life is hard enough when you belong here
life is hard enough when you belong here
shelve your western plans
life is hard enough when you belong here

I think you might have got it right there.

ust gonna stand there
And watch me burn
But that's alright
Because I like
The way it hurts
Just gonna stand there
And hear me cry
But that's alright
Because I love
The way you lie
I love the way you lie
I love the way you lie

I can't tell you what it really is
I can only tell you what it feels like
And right now there's a steel knife
In my windpipe
I can't breathe
But I still fight
While I can fight
As long as the wrong feels right
It's like I'm in flight
High of a love
Drunk from the hate
It's like I'm huffing paint
And I love it the more that I suffer
I sufficate
And right before im about to drown
She resuscitates me
She fucking hates me
And I love it
Wait
Where you going
I'm leaving you
No you ain't
Come back
We're running right back
Here we go again
It's so insane
Cause when it's going good
It's going great
I'm Superman
With the wind in his bag
She's Lois Lane
But when it's bad
It's awful
I feel so ashamed
I snap
Who's that dude
I don't even know his name
I laid hands on her
I'll never stoop so low again
I guess I don't know my own strength

Just gonna stand there
And watch me burn
But that's alright
Because I like
The way it hurts
Just gonna stand there
And hear me cry
But that's alright
Because I love
The way you lie
I love the way you lie
I love the way you lie

You ever love somebody so much
You can barely breathe
When you're with them
You meet
And neither one of you
Even know what hit 'em
Got that warm fuzzy feeling
Yeah them chills
Used to get 'em
Now you're getting fucking sick
Of looking at 'em
You swore you've never hit 'em
Never do nothing to hurt 'em
Now you're in each other's face
Spewing venom
And these words
When you spit 'em
You push
Pull each other's hair
Scratch, claw, bit 'em
Throw 'em down

Pin 'em
So lost in the moments
When you're in 'em
It's the rage that took over
It controls you both
So they say it's best
To go your separate ways
Guess that they don't know ya
Cause today
That was yesterday
Yesterday is over
It's a different day
Sound like broken records
Playin' over
But you promised her
Next time you'll show restraint
You don't get another chance
Life is no Nintendo game
But you lied again
Now you get to watch her leave
Out the window
Guess that's why they call it window pane

Just gonna stand there
And watch me burn
But that's alright
Because I like
The way it hurts
Just gonna stand there
And hear me cry
But that's alright
Because I love
The way you lie
I love the way you lie
I love the way you lie

Now I know we said things
Did things
That we didn't mean
And we fall back
Into the same patterns
Same routine
But your temper's just as bad
As mine is
You're the same as me
But when it comes to love
You're just as blinded
Baby please come back
It wasn't you
Baby it was me
Maybe our relationship
Isn't as crazy as it seems
Maybe that's what happens
When a tornado meets a volcano
All I know is
I love you too much
To walk away though
Come inside
Pick up your bags off the sidewalk
Don't you hear sincerity
In my voice when I talk
Told you this is my fault
Look me in the eyeball
Next time I'm pissed
I'll aim my fist
At the dry wall
Next time
There will be no next time
I apologize
Even though I know it's lies
I'm tired of the games
I just want her back
I know I'm a liar
If she ever tries to fucking leave again
I'mma tie her to the bed
And set the house on fire

Just gonna stand there
And watch me burn
But that's alright
Because I like
The way it hurts
Just gonna stand there
And hear me cry
But that's alright
Because I love
The way you lie
I love the way you lie
I love the way you lie

Has this been posted yet?

High, higher than the sun
You shoot me from a gun
I need you to elevate me here
At the corner of your lips
At the orbit of your hips
Eclipse, you elevate my soul

I've lost all self control
Been living like a mole
Now going down, excavation
I and I in the sky
You make me feel like I can fly
So high, elevation

A star lit up like a cigar
Strung out like a guitar
Maybe you could educate my mind
Explain all these controls
I can't sing but I've got soul
The goal is elevation

A mole, living in a hole
Digging up my soul
Going down, excavation
I and I in the sky
You make me feel like I can fly
So high, elevation

Love, lift me out of these blues
Won't you tell me something true
I believe in you

A mole,living in a hole
Digging up my soul
Now going down, excavation
I and I in the sky
You make me feel like I can fly
So high, elevation

Do I have to change my name
Will it get me far
Should I lose some weight
Am I gonna be a star

I tried to be a boy
I tried to be a girl
I tried to be a mess
I tried to be the best
I guess I did it wrong
That’s why I wrote this song

This type of modern life
Is it for me
This type of modern life
Is it for free

So, I went into a bar
Looking for sympathy
A little company
I tried to find a friend
It’s more easily said
It’s always been the same

This type of modern life
Is not for me
This type of modern life
Is not for free

American life (American life)
I live the American dream (American dream)
You are the best thing I’ve seen
You are not just a dream (American life)

I tried to stay ahead
I tried to stay on top
I tried to play the part
But somehow I forgot
Just what I did it for
And why I wanted more

This type of modern life
Is it for me
This type of modern life
Is it for free

Do I have to change my name
Will it get me far
Should I lose some weight
Am I gonna be a star

American life (American life)
I live the American dream (American dream)
You are the best thing I’ve seen
You are not just a dream (American life)

I tried to be a boy
Tried to be a girl
Tried to be a mess
Tried to be the best
Tried to find a friend
Tried to stay ahead
I tried to stay on top

Do I have to change my name
Will it get me far
Should I lose some weight
Am I gonna be a star

Oh
Oh
Oh
Oh

I’m drinkin’ a soy latte, I get a double shotty
It goes right through my body and you know I’m satisfied
I drive my Mini Cooper and I’m feeling super-duper
Yo they tell I’m a trooper and you know I’m satisfied
I do yoga and pilates and the room is full of hotties
So I’m checkin’ out the bodies and you know I’m satisfied
I’m diggin’ on the isotopes, this metaphysics shit is dope
And if all this can give me hope you know I’m satisfied
I got a lawyer and a manager, an agent and a chef
Three nannies, an assistant and a driver and a jet
A trainer and a butler and a bodyguard or five
A gardener and a stylist, do you think I’m satisfied
I’d like to express my extreme point of view
I’m not a Christian and I’m not a Jew
I’m just livin’ out the American dream
And I just realized that nothin’ is what it seems

Do I have to change my name
Am I gonna be a star
Do I have to change my name

"And in this everchanging world in which we live IN"

Iago Galdston, Thursday, 9 June 2011 23:44 (fourteen years ago)

There's a school of thought that has it "And in this everchanging world in which we're living"

Mark G, Thursday, 9 June 2011 23:46 (fourteen years ago)

Never heard that! Maybe he's in the clear, but I'm too tired to go searching for Sir Paul's many other stinkers ;)
