So they're good live? I was going to see them without a doubt, but I just found out I'm going to be driving for 8 hours the night before the show and then it's a 2 hour drive to the show, so it better be pretty kickass because I'm going to be exhausted...

Always great live, some of the best shows I've seen in the last few years. Still haven't heard the new LP.

awesome live, generally. the new album is pretty standard Black Lips, though it admittedly is slightly better production than they usually shit out.

peeps are mad because in mpls black lips and jay reatard are playing same nite, different venues...garagepunk dudes are all buggaboo!

if there's one thing i've learned about pitchfork this year, it's that jason crock and i have nothing in common when it comes to music. [which is totally fine of course, although if i could get that time back that i saw black lips and the ponys play it'd be great too.]

I would feel more conflicted about them (in the "why wouldn't you just put on a "Back from the Grave" or "Nuggets" disc?" sense) if the songs weren't so catchy. I would like to see them live.

I dunno, fukasaku, I think the only thing wrong with that review was that it shoulda been rated higher than an 8.3, judging by the text of the review. Is it just me or do those ratings seem more random all the time?

I think this new one is great and easily their best. Anyone else think this band owes as much a debt to the Billy Childish / Dan Melchior school of garage rock as to the Nuggets legacy? Where is the love?

Does anyone know if Good Bad Not Evil is coming out on vinyl either tomorrow or at any point in the future?

they definitely sound like they love the mummies. i think i still prefer the last album to the new one (it had 'dirty hands' which slays all) but the new one is very very great.

they did a vinyl version of their last vice record on their own label, die slaughterhaus. maybe same for the new one?

Heard it, liked it, don't think I heard any bleeps. But yeah, the album does loose steam toward the end.

(Actually think I liked that track more than the other two slowish ones that came before it, though.)

i dont know man, i heard the album and the end is the fucking bomb. that die slaughterhaus "hooooo!" chant in "i saw god" is one of the best moments on there. they recorded a whole ton of songs and there are some really amazing things that didn't end up on the album.

"Drugs" is my jam right now. That song is catchy in like 20 different ways.

"The Drop I Hold" is brilliant, there's always one moment that makes me think they're geniuses and on 200 Million it's this one

New album leaked. I really like "Bone Marrow" the most out of all the songs. "Raw Meat" is really great too, reminds me a lot of the Ramones. "Family Tree" is rad too. "Don't Mess Up My Baby" has a nice Bo Diddley beat that i wish they did more of.

that track Modern Art is ok. I'm pretty stuck on Let It Bloom / Los Valientes / Good Bad Not Evil and haven't been able to get into their new stuff from 200Mil on.

Agree about Good Bad Not Evil. Maybe that was like their End Of The Century or something - the last one to be in any way neccessary.
FWIW the Ronson production seems fine - that's not what's bugging me at all.
I'll give it another shot.

I absolutely love Arabian Mountain, easily their best and most consistent since Let It Bloom. I was really nervous about the Ronson production, but I think it sounds great.

Second listen, I liked this more. "Family Tree" is still fucking great, easily the best tune on here, and I now kinda love "Modern Art," "Mad Dog," "Dumpster Dive" and the last song (I like that their last songs have been pretty weird lately, ie "I Saw God" and now this new one which is all helium psychedelia or something) but this is still like 6 songs too long. Lotta filler and unmemorable / insubstantial tunes, and the one shameless Ramones rip just plain bums me out. Still prefer GBNE but I'll be jamming this one again.

I think they recorded like two dozen tracks and actually whittled it down to this. They record alot of stuff that doesn't end up on the albums.

The Ramones song ("Raw Meat") sounds so much like the Ramones that I can't not be in total love with it, because the Ramones are so often my favorite band of all time.

I really love these guys to death, but after hearing "Don't Fall Down" by the 13th Floor Elevators tonight (I know, I know), I feel like I found the source of 85% of the inspiration for this band.
