The 6ths' Wasps' Nests trumps a good portion of the Magnetic Fields catalog.

Not sure if The New Pornographers count, but I like them better than Neko Case's solo stuff, as well as Destroyer.

Robert Pollard and Doug Gillard's Speak Kindly Of Your Volunteer Fire Department was the best Guided By Voices album that GBV never released.

I enjoy Sam Prekop's s/t solo album a lot more than most Sea & Cake albums.

I'm glad to see that the David Sylvian/Robert Fripp collaboration is well appreciated upthread. Though I still prefer Brilliant Trees and Secrets of the Beehive to The First Day.

Um... I'm assuming I'll get flak for this, but I prefer the Oakey/Catherall/Solley-era Human League *and* Heaven 17 to the Oakey/Ware/Marsh-era Human League, though the earlier Human League were quite good. And I suspect that's less of a "side project"-y kind of thing than it is a "band dissolution into two different and durable bands" type thing.

I could be catty here and say that The Devils < Duran Duran, but, um, I won't be. (But I *can* admit that Stephen Duffy < Simon Le Bon, at least as far as singing talent goes.)

I'm sure I'll have arguments around here for this, but i think The Glove's Blue Sunshine completely trumps both Pornography and Hyaena.

I know Pornography is a bit of a sacred cow around here, but for me it wears, it's too dark and intense and just overall cloying/suffocating. Great opener and "A Strange Day" is amazing, but I don't enjoy listening to the whole album. I get listener fatigue before side two even starts.

Hyaena is just okay. Some good tracks ("Dazzle", "Prudence", but again, overall the whole thing gets boring and blah and way too gothy, and I wind up turning it off halfway through as well.

Blue Sunshine, on the other hand, I listen through from start to finish and it's just a trip, literally. It sucks me in and sounds fun and scary and happy and mad.

But I guess I should also come clean, The Top is my favorite album by The Cure. So my frame of reference may be a bit different here too...

i just picked up the Latin Playboys s/t CD for $2 in a cutout bin.

it's pretty amazing!

i only wish they didn't have that handful of "real songs" which are still too much like regular los lobos for me, kinda boring clapton singing. but this is a cool album.

i liked the first three, actually. saw them play to about seven people at the fireside bowl in 1998 and it was probably one of my favorite shows of my college years. i didn't really care for amore del tropico, and walked out of thier show on the tour supporting it.

i've given the new one a few listens and the jury's still out.
