― John Bullabaugh (John Bullabaugh), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 03:03 (twenty-two years ago)

gygax, you made a believer out of me! (and a rather chagrined one, at that)

I must admit (obviously) that I was guessing at what might not have been on here.....and, based on a screening of those names I mentioned with my newly discovered (!) search engine, I've found about 2:1 in favor of having been mentioned here before....(I gave up on the "angst" references, since the first 50 were not referring to the band...)

In defense of my sloppiness, I should mention that I previously posted on boards that had a search function that was virtually useless. It would search for about 3 days of history so I seldom used it. This one I'll use!

Thanks.

ps. I've got to get back to those 35 references to Hasil Adkins!

135. Things in Herds

Hey, they played our club last month! They're bloody fantastic and should be written about on many threads other than this one: http://www.thingsinherds.co.uk

― CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 16:20 (twenty-two years ago)

instead of this whiney thread, why not start a fucking thread about a band you think should be discussed (or better yet, answer an exisisting one... angry samoans & hasil adkins never mentioned, my ass... bah)

― Fritz Wollner (Fritz), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 16:23 (twenty-two years ago)

It just tickles me that there are all manner of bands who get showered with love in certain circles and never get mentioned by the great and the good of ILM, whereas people will pound their F5 key into dust to update on a discussion about Guided By Voices. It's OK. Have a fruit cup or something.

I don't get whether people are trying to post relatively unknown stuff or more well known bands that don't get mentioned. Because there has to be thousands of relatively unknown bands that haven't been mentioned like a bunch of localized stuff that never caught it's stride even if they were good

― scooter (CaptainLorax), Thursday, 17 June 2010 02:51 (sixteen years ago)

A post up thread suggested "Connee Boswell," but a thread search fortunately reveals this not to be the case. And of course, a search for the Boswell Sisters reveals even more results, including the probably correct claim that the Boswell Sisters invented rock and roll.

Hence my point that you could just dig up VA compilation and post bands you find on there
I'll test my theory by going through one VA on my computer

Thank You Friends: The Ardent Records Story CD 1
206. The Wallabies
207. The Ole Miss Downbeats
208. Icewater (not to be confused with Icewater Scandal or DJ Icewater)
209. The Honey Jug
210. The Goatdancers
211. The Badgers
212. The 1st Century

Now this thread would be more interesting if you searched for a band like moe. and it was unsearchable (and believe me I would like to discover that there is a band as popular as .moe that hasn't been mentioned yet on ILM)

I just spent 10 minutes searching more popular jam bands and unfortunately they were all searchable
However, I'll add one more band even though it was never popular

213. Mori Stylez (fusion - a distinct adventurous sound, notable use of bassoon/mandolin/clarinet and no piano/keyboards) Seek the album 'Rules For Rotation'. "If you like Henry Threadgill and other Knitting Factory–type jazz, Mori Stylez should be right up your alley"

― scooter (CaptainLorax), Thursday, 17 June 2010 18:15 (sixteen years ago)

BTW that Ardent Records compilation sounds really good! I don't think I ever listened to it

Crazy Cavan and the Rhythm Rockers. Thought with all the Britishes on this board they might have been mentioned in passing, even if derisively. Interesting to me that during the same 70s time-period in America, Sha Na Na were pretty much making a mockery of 50s pop, while these guys were seriously trying to keep alive/update the Sun Records sound. I've been loving this comp recently:

In fact, the last time that the word chucklehead was even uttered on ILM. Just discovered that they had a music video. The 90s were certainly an interesting time for funk!

(Actually, like, the bestselling act in Norway for the past 25 years or so, but still pretty sure this will remain his only mention here)

― The GeirBot (Geir Hongro), Wednesday, 27 November 2019 12:26 (six years ago)

The band name makes them a pain in the hole to search, but Talons' don't seem to get a mention on here. If you're up for some creaking, odd folk music, somewhere between Scott Tuma's haunted back porch and a still-bearable Kozelek, this might be the thing. I can recommend Rustic Bullshit and Song for Boats (both on Spotify) or the After Talons' collection on Bandcamp (pay yer own price). It's all good.

picked up the cd years ago, but only added it to the digital archive a couple of days, so decided to check.
not so sure i have ever listened to it, which kind of answers the question i guess.

A bit of Googling suggests that Ilxor has never had anything to say about The Pale, who did "Butterfly". The Pale Saints yes; The Pale no.

Which is odd because they aren't that obscure. I've heard of them and I'm normal. Perhaps they're too obvious for Ilxor. Not obscure enough. But what is there to say about them?

And there was that other band. I can't remember them. They were... 1990s. Lady singer. One album. Trip-hop? One popular single in a movie soundtrack. What was the film? Virtuosity? No, no it wasn't. Dammit. Yesterday I managed to remember the 1986 interactive novel Portal, today I can't remember this one simple thing.

not mentioned on ilx:

Clinic Q - a Danish new wave band I downloaded based on an extremely negative review of them supporting some punk band in the early 80s, as I suspected I really liked it

Brigandage - anarcho-goths, just bought a compilation LP that was unfortunately totally trashed and skips in places, but not on their song which is the reason I bought the LP in the first place https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cTB_al7oKw8

CP that Brigandage tune is very cool!

In a similar spirit, this is a band off a comp called Sounds From The Southern Scene. Theyre called Cursory Glances and their contact address is literally just up the street from where im sitting now. Would love to know more about them but they mightve moved since 1985...
