The front story has the title of the new Moz album, You Are The Quarry and some new song titles. I was pleasantly surprised with some of the live songs he was doing on the last tour of the southwest, esp. First of the Gang To Die, and these song titles are even more interesting....

So, does anyone else give a s&*t about the old geezer?

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Wednesday, 7 January 2004 21:11 (twenty-two years ago)

I'd avoided buying Maladjusted for years until I saw it for a couple bucks last autumn. It's not half bad, really. Even though it's been 7 years, I hope some of it carries over to the new one.

I saw Moz perform "First of the Gang to Die" on Kilborn and really, really, really liked it.

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Wednesday, 7 January 2004 21:16 (twenty-two years ago)

So, does anyone else give a s&*t about the old geezer?

But of course. I await this album with glee.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 7 January 2004 21:17 (twenty-two years ago)

He really is needed more than ever - and my hunch is that the music rag cartels have decreed that critical acclaim is all but assured.

darren (darren), Wednesday, 7 January 2004 21:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Getting excited about fucking Morrissey releasing a new album in 2004 is about as relevant as if Journey made a new album. Or that one band that did "Always Something There to Remind Me."

Mr. Snrub (Mr. Snrub), Wednesday, 7 January 2004 21:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Not so. It's been proven that a solo Moz album is only as relevant as a solo Axl Rose album.

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Wednesday, 7 January 2004 21:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Getting excited about fucking Morrissey releasing a new album in 2004 is about as relevant as if Journey made a new album

this brings up another thread I've been wanting to start....see you there.

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Wednesday, 7 January 2004 21:42 (twenty-two years ago)

"You are the Quarry"? What does it mean?

"I Have Forgiven Jesus"
"Come Back To Camden"
"How Can Anybody Possibly Know How I Feel?"
"I'm Not Sorry"

Morrissey's country music link comes full circle.

I saw Boz Boorer recently and he played "Mexico."

Hank Locklin, "Send Me the Pillow that You Dream On"

Tell me more about Morrissey and country.

Mary (Mary), Wednesday, 7 January 2004 21:42 (twenty-two years ago)

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
(but dramatically!)

peepee (peepee), Wednesday, 7 January 2004 21:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Hmmm, well, if the Irish Blood, English Heart thing is anything to go by, maybe there is something in his upbringing that explains the country connection. Unless it's just something he's recently decided is great.

Schwingung (Damian), Wednesday, 7 January 2004 22:32 (twenty-two years ago)

That's funny, earlier today I was wondering if we'd ever hear anything about a new Morrissey album.

I don't have high hopes for it, but I look forward to it nonetheless.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Wednesday, 7 January 2004 22:36 (twenty-two years ago)

it will be big in Mexico

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 7 January 2004 22:40 (twenty-two years ago)

la raza hearts moz, this is true.

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Wednesday, 7 January 2004 23:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Or that one band that did "Always Something There to Remind Me." Is Cilla Black releasing a new album too? That's what I call a double whammy.

Billy Dods (Billy Dods), Wednesday, 7 January 2004 23:17 (twenty-two years ago)

He's waited just long enough for me to get burned by him again, the fucker.

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Wednesday, 7 January 2004 23:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Let's hope no 6-min drum solos on this one.

Chuck Tatum (Chuck Tatum), Wednesday, 7 January 2004 23:51 (twenty-two years ago)

I liked that solo dammit.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 7 January 2004 23:52 (twenty-two years ago)

S.G. was a massive let-down after Vauxhall and I, though.

BTW I think more and more that V&I is his best album, Smiths included.

Chuck Tatum (Chuck Tatum), Wednesday, 7 January 2004 23:57 (twenty-two years ago)

I liked that solo dammit.

me too (and NOTHING ELSE on that album!)

Eisbär (llamasfur), Thursday, 8 January 2004 00:17 (twenty-two years ago)

what is this drum solo you speak of? did neil peart guest on a moz album I don't have?

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Thursday, 8 January 2004 00:18 (twenty-two years ago)

the intro to the operation..

used to play on the speakers before shows start.

bill stevens (bscrubbins), Thursday, 8 January 2004 00:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Most frustrating experience of life: Moz storming off the stage (forever) after the second bar of Shoplifters of The World Unite, due to too many stage invasions... (it's my fave smiths song)

Chuck Tatum (Chuck Tatum), Thursday, 8 January 2004 00:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Drums at end of Speedway, however = :-)

Chuck Tatum (Chuck Tatum), Thursday, 8 January 2004 00:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah i know it's rash gun-jumpery but those song titles do not bode well. He's always maintained a delicate balance between self-parody and self-pity in his best stuff, too far in the latter zone = tedious shite.

pete s, Thursday, 8 January 2004 00:33 (twenty-two years ago)

But i agree with Tico, his absence is keenly felt, i think a lot of us are finding ourselves unexpectedly salivating at the prospect of new material.

pete s, Thursday, 8 January 2004 00:37 (twenty-two years ago)

I thought the title was going to be "Irish Blood/English Heart." I hope it's a double album. He should do a duet with Willie Nelson at his next concert. "Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain" maybe.

Mary (Mary), Thursday, 8 January 2004 00:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Chuck Tatum: I was at that show too - Greek Theatre 1997, no?

Well if not, the same thing happened at that one. After seeing him again at the first Coachella, I vowed not to bother ever again.

One thing I've noticed. Being Mexican-American and into Morrissey is about as unique as being a "white" American and into..oh, I don't know, Dave Matthews. (well, you know what I mean.....) And after hearing "Suedehead" and "Ask" at every party or club I went to in college, I realized it wasn't like the old days anymore. No, it wasn't like those days.

kickitcricket, Thursday, 8 January 2004 03:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Are you still killing Bill while he's ill?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 8 January 2004 03:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Morrissey ROOLZ. I hope I like the new album, but if I don't, well, there's always the old stuff. Maladjusted was the first Moz-related album I didn't adore.

Aaron A., Thursday, 8 January 2004 03:37 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't think those titles reflect any more self-parody than "Lifeguard Sleeping, Girl Drowning," "Satan Rejected My Soul," or "I Am Hated For Loving." In fact, I'm quite excited about a new album from the man, and the titles seem like good ones. Besides, there's something to be said for an artist who inspires debates like this over mere titles - no one is on the Modest Mouse thread reading things into "Bury Me With It!"

By the way, Southpaw Grammar is OBVIOUSLY his masterpiece thus far, drum solo and all. I just don't see how anyone could disagree.

roger adultery (roger adultery), Thursday, 8 January 2004 05:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Good, I'm not alone.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 8 January 2004 06:22 (twenty-two years ago)

I think an important question to consider would be:
If he goes on tour to promote his record, will he even show up for his own gigs this time?

Lord Custos Omicron (Lord Custos Omicron), Thursday, 8 January 2004 07:01 (twenty-two years ago)

It's gonna be a three-month tour, apparently, so one would assume...

Schwingung (Damian), Thursday, 8 January 2004 08:32 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't understand Tico's obscene comments upthread.

I don't think I see why Irish blood would make you a c&w fan. There are almost certainly more country fans in England, or possibly even Scotland, than in Ireland.

The titles on the thread look good to me.

Titles - as a... 'genre' - are interesting me.

I think, or hope, that I will enjoy the new record.

Is Jerry the Nipper yet back to receive this news?

the bellefox, Thursday, 8 January 2004 13:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Ned, I'm going to give Southpaw a 'nother try tonight.

Chuck Tatum (Chuck Tatum), Thursday, 8 January 2004 17:59 (twenty-two years ago)

If he goes on tour to promote his record, will he even show up for his own gigs this time?

He was apparently on time and in good spirits during the US tour of the Southwest he did last year....

http://www.morrisseytour.com

has recaps of each show, or at least they did....

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Thursday, 8 January 2004 18:02 (twenty-two years ago)

I would be THRILLED if this was his first album since Southpaw Grammar (which is terrif, damn the hataz). But it ain't.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Thursday, 8 January 2004 18:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Didn't the moz bankroll his last couple of tours all by himself? I think he set the whole things up too as he's without label. probably has something to do with tardiness and whatnot.

bill stevens (bscrubbins), Thursday, 8 January 2004 18:30 (twenty-two years ago)

As I was falling asleep last night I was sure that this must have been a joke. Perhaps it is?

Morrissey's c&w overlaps have nothing to do with him being Irish or English. Gah, do I have to spell everything out for you people? :) I was simply commenting on the similarities between the maudlinnnes of the song titles.

I would suggest that it is time for his own "Nashville Skyline" ('Nottingham Skyline"?) but I fear I would just confuse you more.

Mary (Mary), Thursday, 8 January 2004 22:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh, I don't think I'd get too excited about this rumoured release, although it's well overdue that Morrissey did a new album. One hopes he would find some new musical collaborators... although his long-time Boorer/Whyte type accomplices have been effective at times ("Vauxhall" is special, "Southpaw Grammar" is a brave move), I feel some new take would perhaps enliven at least the *sound* of his records. Think of how Vini Reilly refocused his sound for the wonderful "Viva Hate"... quite an album that. :)

Not heard any of the new material, though one presumes it is fairly good at least. On record, Morrissey needs very thoughtful production I feel... his songs do often seem very tailored to live performance.

Tom May (Tom May), Friday, 9 January 2004 02:40 (twenty-two years ago)

More song titles announced by Alain Whyte on BBC 6 Music (or whatever it's called):

My Life is a Series of People Saying Goodbye

Teenage Dad on his Estate

Don't Make Fun of Daddy's Voice

If Morrissey were to write 'Cemetry Gates' nowadays, he'd call it something like 'I Like Oscar Wilde More Than You Do'.

Rick Spence (spencerman), Friday, 9 January 2004 17:32 (twenty-two years ago)

he should cover "Daddy Should Have Stayed in School" by Cheap Trick.

these seem like okay titles to me....I kinda like how stilted they are...

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Friday, 9 January 2004 17:35 (twenty-two years ago)

From true-to-you.net:

MORRISSEY NEWS

9th January 2004

You Are The Quarry is produced by Jerry Finn and engineered by Joe McGrath.

Musicians on the album are: Boz Boorer (guitar), Alain Whyte (guitar), Gary Day (bass), and Dean Butterworth (drums), with Roger Manning (piano).

The album has been recorded at Sarm in Berkshire (England), and Conway Studio in Los Angeles.

Songs recorded on the session are:

"America Is Not The World"
"Irish Blood, English Heart"
"I Have Forgiven Jesus"
"Come Back To Camden"
"I'm Not Sorry"
"The World Is Full Of Crashing Bores"
"How Can Anybody Possibly Know How I Feel?"
"The First Of The Gang To Die"
"Teenage Dad On His Estate"
"I Like You"
"The Never-Played Symphonies"
"The Slum Mums"
"You Know I Couldn't Last"
"Home Is A Question Mark"
"The Public Image"
"It's Hard To Walk Tall When You're Small"

The album is set for release on the Attack label through Sanctuary Records in the second week of April.

Attack are also negotiating with Nancy Sinatra to release her version of "Let Me Kiss You" as a single. The song was originally recorded by Morrissey for inclusion on You Are The Quarry. Also, Attack plan to release a single by James Maker (ex-Raymonde) called "I'm Unbearable."

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Friday, 9 January 2004 18:17 (twenty-two years ago)

If Morrissey were to write 'Cemetry Gates' nowadays, he'd call it something like 'I Like Oscar Wilde More Than You Do'.

If there were a on the money one-liners thread I'd post this to it.

N. (nickdastoor), Friday, 9 January 2004 18:41 (twenty-two years ago)

on nme.com today they have a comment from alain white saying the album is like vauxhall + your arsenal. which sounds like my dreams come true, but I think a 'wait and see' attitude is appropriate at this point and time..

bill stevens (bscrubbins), Friday, 9 January 2004 18:46 (twenty-two years ago)

"Come Back To Camden"

I really, really wish this was about Camden, NJ.

tokyo rosemary (rosemary), Friday, 9 January 2004 18:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Better yet if it was about the Camden family on 7th Heaven.

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Friday, 9 January 2004 19:16 (twenty-two years ago)

"America Is Not The World"

hahahaha

I cannot wait for this album.

It's Hard To Walk Tall When You're Small"

Is this a comedy album?

"The Slum Mums"

No! They're joking!

Mary (Mary), Friday, 9 January 2004 23:57 (twenty-two years ago)

"I Have Forgiven Jesus"

I do love the man.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 10 January 2004 17:42 (twenty-two years ago)

No-one has used the phrase 'crashing bore' since 1960.
It's pretty cool.

pete s, Saturday, 10 January 2004 17:45 (twenty-two years ago)

>Or that one band that did "Always Something There to Remind Me."

Naked Eyes, by the way.

James, Saturday, 10 January 2004 18:41 (twenty-two years ago)

hey, "southpaw grammar" is really fucking good, for some reason I'd decided it was crap and sold it back. thank you ilm and soulseek for getting me to check it out again. "boy racer" might be one of Moz's top five solo songs.

anthony kyle monday (akmonday), Monday, 12 January 2004 03:11 (twenty-two years ago)

I like the Reed Richards grey temples look! What a dreadful old rockist he is.

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 14:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Dreadful Old Rockist would be a good album title!

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 16:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, I was always obsessed by pop music. Not rock or progressive or any other kind of music, only pop.

What a dreadfully rockist thing to say! Burn the witch!

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 17:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Sorry JTN there isn't an emoticon denoting 'endearment' or I'd have used it above.

He's not obsessed enough to like any of it except the old stuff, mind you.

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 17:09 (twenty-two years ago)

JAMES: You're working on a new album now. Who's producing it?
MORRISSEY: Jerry Finn. He's produced Bad Religion, Green Day, Blink 182.

I'd love to hear Morrissey uttering that sentence.

N. (nickdastoor), Wednesday, 18 February 2004 01:20 (twenty-two years ago)

I actually got a copy of this magazine in the mail today! And I have no idea why! There's no note or anything in the envelope!

Mary (Mary), Sunday, 22 February 2004 11:11 (twenty-two years ago)

and here for the Under the Quarry press release

Mary (Mary), Sunday, 22 February 2004 11:15 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't know why Tico thought Morrissey was being rockist.

the bellefox, Sunday, 22 February 2004 11:36 (twenty-two years ago)

The photo is more Jimmy Cagney than Jimmy Bond, no?

I am ridiculously excited about all this.

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Sunday, 22 February 2004 12:57 (twenty-two years ago)

That picture on his new website is niiice! Does this signal a return to the Cray Bros. obsession?

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Sunday, 22 February 2004 17:43 (twenty-two years ago)

I was about to say, not so much Bondish as 30s Chicago or something.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 22 February 2004 17:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Anyway, here's the real hilarity. Talk about suspicious minds.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 22 February 2004 18:03 (twenty-two years ago)

The internet is silly.

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Sunday, 22 February 2004 18:53 (twenty-two years ago)

The press release was interesting though....I'm kind of excited about his having worked with the guy from Jellyfish, sounds like it's a more complex orch/psych/loud type sound they are going for....I guess I'm pleasantly suprised because after the the stuff I heard off the tour I was thinking they were going to be more of the Maladjuested boring/MOR type production (I was still excited though because I felt he has some pretty good songs)....Maybe Jerry Finn will turn out to be a great choice (although I was a bit skeptical like I'm sure alot of people were)....

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Sunday, 22 February 2004 18:55 (twenty-two years ago)

I'll be very interested to hear the new album, as a long-time fan who's thought little about him for years. A change of production sound was clearly needed, and good to hear this will be the case. Still, I'm disappointed he's not chosen to work with different musicians [barring this synth player], or even someone like Vini Reilly, with whom he worked so wonderfully in the past on "Viva Hate". Well, I suppose for such a comeback, some continuity's probably going to be necessary.

Tom May (Tom May), Sunday, 22 February 2004 19:00 (twenty-two years ago)

there was a blurb on moz this morning in the la times. id cut and paste it if the la times werent a bunch of dickheads and locked up their calendar section to non-paying customers. anyway. they had a little something called 'morrissey tells us how he really feels.'

had a funny quote - "when questioned about doing the vh1 show bands reunited, the moz said 'i'll be waiting on my rooftop with a rifle.'"

bill stevens (bscrubbins), Sunday, 22 February 2004 19:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Love that photo...the first thing I thought of was Lipstick Killers-era Dolls.

I'm really eager to hear this, despite it having yet another "bash the critics" song. Ugh, talk about crashing bores. And I'm curious about that Nancy Sinatra song.

Ha ha, "The Slum Mums", what a great title!

Arthur (Arthur), Sunday, 22 February 2004 19:31 (twenty-two years ago)

That picture is fantastic! I'm looking forward to this album much more than I thought I would.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Monday, 23 February 2004 20:55 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm a bit nervous about this Jerry Finn guy. I don't want him to screw up "The first in the gang to die"

daavid (daavid), Monday, 23 February 2004 22:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Billboard chimes in

Mary (Mary), Tuesday, 24 February 2004 06:54 (twenty-two years ago)

He seems to have lost a bit of weight and is going for a Dirk B. look.

Mary/pinefox: there is a huge connection between c&w and Irish migrants to Britain. Manchester's resettled Irish very definitely had their own music scene, and Johnny Marr's family, for one thing, was pretty involved in it - he said many people in his dad's generation played in groups around the city. Of course, like the Gallaghers, all the Smiths were 2G Irish (and J. Marr's little brother was L. Gallagher's best friend, hence adoption by same manager).

I am interested. Paul Jones who used to be in Linoleum and Elastica is M's A&R.

suzy (suzy), Tuesday, 24 February 2004 09:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Also 'slum Mums' make me think he's in trouble with the people who read Popbitch and pretend to get all het up about people being 'council' or not (see also the term 'pramface').

suzy (suzy), Tuesday, 24 February 2004 09:45 (twenty-two years ago)

i dont understand that last post, how is slum mums analoguous to pramface?

gareth (gareth), Tuesday, 24 February 2004 09:51 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm sensing a worrying Bengali in Platforms song about what it would be like to live on a wndswept estate eg. Broadwater Farm.

suzy (suzy), Tuesday, 24 February 2004 10:03 (twenty-two years ago)

oh, ok i see what you mean now

gareth (gareth), Tuesday, 24 February 2004 10:05 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't know about the album, but I'm in love with that picture.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Tuesday, 24 February 2004 14:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Manchester tix on sale now. Standing sold out apparently. May release more later. May have a second show if this sells out. Rumor has it that other UK dates are planned, then the Southwest.

Mary (Mary), Saturday, 28 February 2004 10:08 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm stunned -- perhaps I should say sten-gunned -- by this line in the press release:

On his previous albums, Morrissey would record his vocals first and the band would record the music later.

Positively avant garde!

As for the photo, I can't decide if it's more Gainsbourg 1959

http://velvetcds.com.br/zine/trivia/clones/gainsbour%20n2.jpg

or Churchill 1940.

Momus (Momus), Saturday, 28 February 2004 13:13 (twenty-two years ago)

wow that is weird (the vocals thing). I'm impressed.

cozen (Cozen), Saturday, 28 February 2004 13:27 (twenty-two years ago)

I always remember reading that the lyrics had generally came first when he was in the Smiths and that they'd based the music around those, but yeah, that is quite a revelation... he must be able to keep time extraordinarily well; though from memory, I don't remember too many solo Morrissey songs especially, that have long instrumental passages. Bar the old "Southpaw..." perhaps.

Tom May (Tom May), Saturday, 28 February 2004 17:28 (twenty-two years ago)

I think he probably just sang along with the initial demo in the studio and then Boz and the Boyz came in and added all the overdubs etc.

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Saturday, 28 February 2004 18:09 (twenty-two years ago)

I remember Stephen Street saying that when Morrissey came up with lyrics for 'Disappointed', he sang all over the bridges and left what Street thought were the verses instrumental. Which somewhat threw him, and he had to rejig it all.

N. (nickdastoor), Saturday, 28 February 2004 19:22 (twenty-two years ago)

I always remember reading that the lyrics had generally came first when he was in the Smiths and that they'd based the music around those

Are you sure? My now hazy memory tells me that it was the other way around, with Johnny Marr giving him tapes of new tunes he'd written. Rare exceptions being a couple of early lyrics ('Suffer Little Children' and 'The Hand The Rocks The Cradle') which he did give to JM to write a tune for. Like Morrissey always hated 'The Draize Train' and refused to provide lyrics for it even though Geoff Travis pleaded with him. Maybe I'm confused though.

Regarding that press release line about the studio process, I do think people underate Morrissey's natural musicality, though I think JtN is probably right in his interpretation.

N. (nickdastoor), Saturday, 28 February 2004 19:33 (twenty-two years ago)

I think it more likely that the press release (or Finn himself) gets the words muddled: I'll bet anything the sentence should say on his previous albums, the band would record the music first and Morrissey would record his vocals later.

All previous descriptions of Morrissey's studio habits indicate that he usually put his vocals down late, at the very last moment even , with the other musicans often not knowing until that point what the song title was. Also everything N. just said.

Hey...apparently, Moz appeared on KROQ in LA's morning show and debuted "Irish Blood, English Heart" for the first time...did anyone hear it? Thoughts? Feelings? Links to MP3s online?

bill stevens (bscrubbins), Monday, 22 March 2004 18:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Did someone already mention the Morrissey fashion spread/interview in this month's GQ? The pictures and interview are very funny.(especially when the GQ dude mentions Johnny. "I mean what's he done other than a couple of good licks on a The The album." Morrissey nods his head in agreement. I'm paraphrasing. It's a hoot though.)

scott seward (scott seward), Monday, 22 March 2004 21:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Who is on the cover, Scott? I didn't know about this.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Monday, 22 March 2004 21:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Didn't Moz do a song called "My Beanie Babies" ?

dean! (deangulberry), Monday, 22 March 2004 21:58 (twenty-one years ago)

That hobbit-pimp, Viggo Mortenson. There is also a kinda downcast piece on frank black if you like that sort of thing. (i didn't think i did, but it was kinda interesting. he lives all by his lonesome in Portland, Oregon and he has no friends and he got divorced and he goes to therapy a lot.) Meanwhile, Morrissey is as happy as can be!

scott seward (scott seward), Monday, 22 March 2004 22:00 (twenty-one years ago)

My favorite part is when he talks about how he loves getting older! He sounds like a sunshiney senior. I don't think I even knew that he lived in L.A. His neighbor is Nancy Sinatra. They have tea together. (where's Ned for that party!?)

scott seward (scott seward), Monday, 22 March 2004 22:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Thanks Scott! I shall check it out...

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Monday, 22 March 2004 22:07 (twenty-one years ago)

My god this is much much better than even I would have hoped.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 00:48 (twenty-one years ago)

I was momentarily excited, but then I remembered that you like some awful tat.

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 00:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Hmph. Listen to it yourself and decide.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 00:52 (twenty-one years ago)

geez, everyone's on Ned's case today

Thea (Thea), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 00:54 (twenty-one years ago)

N. is just jealous of my love for the Smashing Pumpkins. Oh it's true. His Belle and Sebastian passion can't measure up.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 00:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Do you mean you aren't a Belle & Seb fan like the rest of the goddamn world? Please say yes

Thea (Thea), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 00:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Ah, Belle and Sebastian. Is there no beginning to their talents? Etc. etc. I could go on but yes, I hate them and always will, it seems.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 00:59 (twenty-one years ago)

It's so easy to laugh, it's so easy to hate, it takes stwength to be gentle and kind, Ned.

N.B. This does not apply to the Smashing Pumpkins. (Viva Hate, etc.)

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 01:03 (twenty-one years ago)

CONTRADICTION. But each man kills the thing he loves either the curtains go or I do the only worse than being talked about is not being talked about etc.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 01:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Do you promise to kill the Smashing Pumpkins?

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 01:11 (twenty-one years ago)

They already did that themselves so I don't have to! Win win for me!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 01:12 (twenty-one years ago)

I meant actually kill them.

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 01:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Dare to dream.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 01:18 (twenty-one years ago)

We are all in the gutter, but thankfully only some of us are listening to the Smashing Pumpkins.

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 01:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Woo, more for me!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 01:23 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't think it's a zero-sum equation, sadly.

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 01:24 (twenty-one years ago)

In my world it is! Think of it this way if you prefer -- you have no competition from me from bootleg shopping and bandwidth searches for B&S stuff, and likewise you'll not trouble me in my searches for them obscure Australian radio acoustic sessions from 1995 when Mellon Collie came out and etc.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 01:26 (twenty-one years ago)

I think you are confusing me with Mooro. Or myself, five years ago, maybe. Good night, sir.

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 01:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Sweet dreams.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 01:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Hear "Irish Blood, English Heart" here:

http://www.morrissey-solo.com/temp/Irish%20Blood,%20English%20Heart%20-%20Morrissey%20KROQ%20premiere.mp3

Simon H., Tuesday, 23 March 2004 05:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh dear, that's the first single? I like how he trills on Crrrromwell though.

Nicole, it's the April issue of GQ. Morrissey in a succession of nice suits photographed by Terry Richardson.

In other news, look for a weeklong booking of Morrissey on the Craig Kilborn show. The media blitz continues apace.

Mary (Mary), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 05:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Apparently he's also doing a 5-day date in L.A. before the album comes out; wacky! Which are the better seats at the Wiltern, L.A. people?

$50.00 - Main Floor Level - General Admission
Open Dance Floor (Standing)
$65.00 - Loge Reserved (Seated)
$50.00 - Mezzanine Reserved (Seated)

Mary (Mary), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 05:49 (twenty-one years ago)

A 5 day stand? He can do that easy around here.

Anyway, go for $50 floor. The loge and mezzanine seats in the balcony are all right if you're into that sort of thing.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 06:38 (twenty-one years ago)

The best Morrissey single since 'November Spawned a Monster'?

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 09:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Ha ha, he mentions Cromwell in it? Nice one Mozz.

Dadaismus (Dada), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 10:21 (twenty-one years ago)

JtN knows the score. And yup, he sure does.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 14:08 (twenty-one years ago)

I am fascinated by that Cromwell reference and intend to write my long-awaited (by the PF) 'English Pop as Civil War' essay at last.

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 14:11 (twenty-one years ago)

wow it's really, really good

J0hn Darn1elle (J0hn Darn1elle), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 14:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Yup. I'm impressed. A rawk Hand In Glove.

Lynskey (Lynskey), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 15:08 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm waiting.

the ... pinefox, Tuesday, 23 March 2004 16:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Im disappointed that those wiltern tickets are so goddamned expensive. granted, it is the wiltern, and it is moz in los angeles. but c'mon.

i was wondering last night if moz's deal with sanctuary is letting him rake in as much cash from shows as he did back when he was booking and managing himself.

bill stevens (bscrubbins), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 18:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Of all thing things that preyed on my mind during last night's attack of insomnia, that was not one of them, I have to say.

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 18:02 (twenty-one years ago)

WHEN is he playing LA?

(the gq issue has a smallish article about frank black also)

kephm, Tuesday, 23 March 2004 18:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 18:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Hm...*might* be out of town that weekend, but I could still try for a show or two there.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 18:11 (twenty-one years ago)

MOZ ALLOWS NO HESITATION. remember: this is the man who sold out the hollywood bowl faster than the beatles.

plus you could make a good amount of money scalping what you dont use.

bill stevens (bscrubbins), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 18:27 (twenty-one years ago)

bill, please don't encourage people to compete against me in my bid to scalp morrissey tickets to the maladjusted mexican youth.

dean! (deangulberry), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 18:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Wiltern's a fine venue but the crush up front for this show...man, I almost don't want to think about it!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 18:32 (twenty-one years ago)

id like to go to see all of the disenfranchised anglophiles frown upon the mexican youth like those bastards in that article in spin awhile back.

whats the front like at the wiltern? is there stage access for the moz supplicants who will no doubt be rushing the stage?

bill stevens (bscrubbins), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 18:41 (twenty-one years ago)

That's the thing, I think there'll almost be too much stage access! They'll have the usual barrier/security guard thing but it strikes me as a fairly easy stage to rush.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 18:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh yes, moz-solo also sez that there's going to be a limited edition with DVD of the album. Hmm...

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 21:04 (twenty-one years ago)

The GQ interview is fantastic! Now I'm reading the "sad frank black now in the ilx demographic" article...

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 22:49 (twenty-one years ago)

:-(

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 23 March 2004 23:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Nicole, have you also seen the Tokion interview? That was pretty good too.

Mary (Mary), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 04:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Sparks talk Meltdown on Danny Baker's Breakfast Show (18/03/2004):

(AL = Amy Lame, DB = Danny Baker)

AL: It's well known that Morrissey is a huge fan of yours and he's programming Meltdown. Now, no pressure... but... any news? Can you give us any kind of insight? No pressure at all.

Russell: No pressure at all... We were in Los Angeles.. Both uh... well...what can I... I... I... can't.

AL: If you don't want to reveal anything you don't have to, but...

Russell: We... we... met with Morrissey and... and uh...

DB: You'd like to play.

Russell: The... the... question has been... has been... put to us... in a... in a... certain way... but we can't tell more than that.

DB: But you'd like to play, all things being equal?

Ron: There's a certain nostalgic element to how he would like us to be presented that doesn't quite fit in with the way we would like to be presented.

DB: Oh I see, okay. He wants Sparks in aspic (Everyone laughs).

Andrew L (Andrew L), Thursday, 25 March 2004 19:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Haha, I love that exchange. I wonder if the rumored Elton John playing Jobriath will come to a similar end. Meanwhile, if anyone wants to buy a special package of all 5 tix to the L.A. show, you can do that now.

Mary (Mary), Thursday, 25 March 2004 21:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Good lord, how much does that cost?

I got presale info just now for the shows. Interestingly, El Moz is not using Ticketmaster this time out.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 25 March 2004 21:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Good for him. I'd like to go, but I am virtually penniless for the time being.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Thursday, 25 March 2004 21:41 (twenty-one years ago)

I'd really like to go...but $50 per ticket, before any further charges? I have my limits.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 25 March 2004 21:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Interestingly, El Moz is not using Ticketmaster this time out.

What do you mean? Ticketmaster is selling tickets.

dean! (deangulberry), Thursday, 25 March 2004 21:48 (twenty-one years ago)

The 5 show package for the Wiltern is $225. He's also playing a show at the Grove in Anaheim for 4/18 which is BEFORE the Wiltern shows. Will probably be cheaper too.

dean! (deangulberry), Thursday, 25 March 2004 21:49 (twenty-one years ago)

What do you mean? Ticketmaster is selling tickets.

Not for the presale at least -- here's the e-mail I got:

. NOTE: These tickets are being sold via Next Ticketing, a new service
with lower ticket fees. You must complete a short pre registration
process, which requires a valid email account, before you can buy tickets.
You can complete this registration process at any time before the pre sale
begins by clicking on any one of the links above. If you plan on
purchasing tickets in this pre sale we recommend that you register before
the pre sale begins to avoid any delays in your ability to purchase
tickets.

You're right that the note further says that Ticketmaster handles regular sales, though. Maybe it's some weird spinoff.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 25 March 2004 21:51 (twenty-one years ago)

He's also playing a show at the Grove in Anaheim for 4/18 which is BEFORE the Wiltern shows

Oh REALLY? My plans are set, then. What's the sale info on that?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 25 March 2004 21:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Ticketmaster is handling the presale also, until 5 PM PST today.

There will be a limited number of tickets available starting at 8am Pacific Standard Time Wed. March 24th - Thu. March 25 at 5pm Pacific Standard Time at Ticketmaster. Use this Password to buy: irishbloodenglishheart

dean! (deangulberry), Thursday, 25 March 2004 22:05 (twenty-one years ago)

http://www.thegroveofanaheim.com/info/box_office.asp

The Grove show has a presale on Saturday 4/3 at noon. It looks like all of the shows have a ticket price of $38.

dean! (deangulberry), Thursday, 25 March 2004 22:08 (twenty-one years ago)

TAKE THAT, WILTERN!

that venue is friggin outrageous.

bill stevens (bscrubbins), Thursday, 25 March 2004 22:13 (twenty-one years ago)

why oh why is he not dragging his ass up to SF?

anthony kyle monday (akmonday), Thursday, 25 March 2004 22:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Ah, perfect -- that'll be after payday and I won't have to use my credit card = hurrah!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 25 March 2004 22:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Morrissey wuvs Ned and the OC.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Thursday, 25 March 2004 22:42 (twenty-one years ago)

I make no claim as to his TV watching habits.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 25 March 2004 22:46 (twenty-one years ago)

What's the Grove like? How often is he going to add new shows before his "first" shows? I don't like the way these concert promoters work. They seem very secretive and underhanded. Why not just announce a nice world tour like normal people and give people the dates so they can decide what they are going to do? I got my tix in the mail today for Manchester:)

Mary (Mary), Friday, 26 March 2004 00:40 (twenty-one years ago)

The Grove is alright. It has a really long floor, so that might be a bit weird for standing. I saw Norm Macdonald there once and they had really long tables which will likely not be there during Morrissey.

dean! (deangulberry), Friday, 26 March 2004 00:47 (twenty-one years ago)

The Grove -- been to a number of shows here under its old name(s), including Sparks, actually! The tables were there and might still be there because it was originally incarnated as a dinner theatre for the rock oldies circuit, really. Good sound, should be a fine show. Mary, if you need a spot to crash for the night, let me know.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 26 March 2004 00:57 (twenty-one years ago)

a dinner theatre for the rock oldies circuit

Which I see it very much still is -- upcoming shows include Loverboy, Lynyrd Skynyrd and Seal. Woo!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 26 March 2004 00:58 (twenty-one years ago)

oh fuk yah

dean! (deangulberry), Friday, 26 March 2004 01:02 (twenty-one years ago)

So Dean, are you going to this thing as well? FAP!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 26 March 2004 01:03 (twenty-one years ago)

http://www.flagline.com/images/novelty-confederate-motorcycle.gif
MOORISSEY!!!! WOOHOOO BEERS

dean! (deangulberry), Friday, 26 March 2004 01:03 (twenty-one years ago)

You know, I don't know. Perhaps? I need to see what day I am see Bad Plus on. If I do go, it will definitely be to the Grove. I'm not a big Moz fan so the Wiltern is a no go.

dean! (deangulberry), Friday, 26 March 2004 01:04 (twenty-one years ago)

New York City Apallo Theater Shows May 3-8

God, doesn't he realize that his fans have lives? How are we supposed to keep up with all of these shows?

He is taking a cue from the Bowie Birthday tour a few years back I think.

Mary (Mary), Friday, 26 March 2004 23:30 (twenty-one years ago)

God, doesn't he realize that his fans have lives?

you sure about that?

dean! (deangulberry), Saturday, 27 March 2004 00:25 (twenty-one years ago)

His fans have a life, and it is his.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 27 March 2004 00:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Did anyone catch kevin and bean this morning?

bill stevens (bscrubbins), Saturday, 27 March 2004 01:25 (twenty-one years ago)

There is some tremendously exciting news over on www.morrissey-solo.com

Last week I drunkenly bet William of Swyggart that the new single would go top 5. I feel even more confident that I will win.

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Monday, 29 March 2004 09:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Have you lost your mind?

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 29 March 2004 16:11 (twenty-one years ago)

what do you think about the lyrics? what do you think DJs and such will say?

teeny (teeny), Monday, 29 March 2004 16:14 (twenty-one years ago)

In America, they will ask who Oliver Cromwell was, attempt to make bad jokes about his name, and then cut to a commercial.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 29 March 2004 16:17 (twenty-one years ago)

What is the tremendously exciting news item that you refer to, Jerry? Is it the one about Morrissey getting a mention in Socialist Worker?

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 29 March 2004 16:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Or is it him playing the Reading & Leeds festivals?

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Monday, 29 March 2004 16:33 (twenty-one years ago)

He's on the cover of the NME? Blimey.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Monday, 29 March 2004 16:34 (twenty-one years ago)

I may have to buy an NME for the first time in years. It will be so shameful though, I may as well be buying some skeevy porn mag.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Monday, 29 March 2004 17:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Morrissey will be on the cover of edgy style mag as well.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Monday, 29 March 2004 17:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, there's your skeevy porn mag right there, then.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 29 March 2004 17:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Bitchy! I like it.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Monday, 29 March 2004 17:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Woo! In the meantime, the bonus DVD sounds distinctly unthrilling:

bonus DVD to include 'Irish Blood, English Heart' video, photo gallery and further exclusive material. This format will be available for a limited period only.

Yeah, thanks for the EPK.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 29 March 2004 17:25 (twenty-one years ago)

he's doing lollapalooza, which is the only new news on there that I saw.

anthony kyle monday (akmonday), Monday, 29 March 2004 17:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Lollapalooza disappoints me. It is likely the only way to see him in my area of the country, but I would rather put my eyes with a rusty fork than go through the whole dollop of losers experience.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Monday, 29 March 2004 17:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Lollapalooza disappoints me

You're not alone there.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 29 March 2004 18:14 (twenty-one years ago)

I will still go though...I've never seen Morrissey, and I never fail to enjoy Sonic Youth live.

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Monday, 29 March 2004 18:54 (twenty-one years ago)

I still have a lot of affection for Sonic Youth and of course love Morrissey, but I don't think I could stand it.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Monday, 29 March 2004 19:11 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah, not looking forward to Lollapalooza the experience (didn't like it all that much the first time round), but I'm realistically looking at this as one of my only chances to see Morrissey, being Midwest USA bound as I am.

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Monday, 29 March 2004 19:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Seeing N. banter sparkily with the Nipper above makes me feel that I have missed him; or perhaps just their interaction.

It is funny how you people can touch me, in a blue moon.

the pinefox, Tuesday, 30 March 2004 15:03 (twenty-one years ago)

the new album will of course be dreadful,as they all have been apart from side one of Your Arse, but he is still tremendously exciting live. The single - yes, definitely top 5.

Dr. C (Dr. C), Tuesday, 30 March 2004 15:09 (twenty-one years ago)

We just got Mozz's new single in the mail why I was doing my radio show and I threw it on immediately. I wasn't offended but it didn't do ANYTHING for me.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Tuesday, 30 March 2004 18:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Now a date in Las Vegas is announced *before* the CA shows. Are his promoters dyslexic?

Mary (Mary), Wednesday, 31 March 2004 00:33 (twenty-one years ago)

there's something hilariously appropriate about Morrissey playing the Apollo.

hstencil, Wednesday, 31 March 2004 06:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Do you find it appalling?

Mary (Mary), Wednesday, 31 March 2004 08:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Actually, I've heard from a good source the tour will start in Texas.

ANYWAY, I was going to be buying my presale tickets for the Anaheim show today...only to find out that instead of them being a base price of $38, which while obnoxious I can still deal with, the presale tickets are $58 instead. In a couple of words, fuck that shit; THAT I find appalling. If the regular tickets will be at $38, I'll take my chances with that; I don't need to be up front for the guy.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 31 March 2004 15:08 (twenty-one years ago)

$58 is pretty ridiculous.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Wednesday, 31 March 2004 15:22 (twenty-one years ago)

new mozza track sounds like early suede

DJ Martian (djmartian), Wednesday, 31 March 2004 15:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Tix are on "pre-sale" now for the Apallo shows, and they are also prohibitively expensive. I wonder if the same people will be returning all 5 nights? Tix are 45, 65, and 75 (!) For 75 I should hope you would be able to eat dinner with Morrissey. Anyway, it's really not that bad, but when he's doing 5 shows in a row and one might like to return night after night . . . It adds up . . .

The internet presale code is "irishbloodenglishheart"

Mary (Mary), Thursday, 1 April 2004 03:35 (twenty-one years ago)

"Hello everyone, this is Morrissey and you're listening to 2 DJs I would never advocate hanging, Kevin and Bean, on the world famous KROQ...." .

http://www.kroq.com/shots/morrissey/01mornshowKB.jpg

kickitcricket, Thursday, 1 April 2004 22:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Dear me.

A separate Grove presale thing happens tomorrow morning. I cross my fingers in hopes about these ticket prices instead.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 1 April 2004 22:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Is irishbloodenglishheart going to be the password for all the presales going on for the wiltern and at the grove in anaheim shows?

lawrence teller, Friday, 2 April 2004 03:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Looks like it. I guess they think it has to ring to it.

Mary (Mary), Friday, 2 April 2004 03:29 (twenty-one years ago)

So who's going to one of the 9000 Apollo gigs? I might.

Aaron W (Aaron W), Friday, 2 April 2004 03:35 (twenty-one years ago)

What's the presale password for the Grove show in Anaheim?

Lawrence T., Friday, 2 April 2004 16:54 (twenty-one years ago)

YOUARETHEQUARRY -- you steal my seats, I kill thee. (Unless they're still $58, in which case by all means take them!)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 2 April 2004 16:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Thanks...be ready to Kill Uncle then....lol.

Lawrence T, Friday, 2 April 2004 16:56 (twenty-one years ago)

thinking about going to the last apollo show in NYC with my best girl...

teeny (teeny), Friday, 2 April 2004 16:59 (twenty-one years ago)

*logs in, gets assigned tickets*

$57.50 per ticket. OH JOY.

Nope, not going. Much as I was looking forward to this, no.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 2 April 2004 17:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Nice conveinence charges, that is terrible! Oh well I got mine!

Lawrence T, Friday, 2 April 2004 17:10 (twenty-one years ago)

But it's 50 cents cheaper than you had thought!

Seriously though, the prices are way too high. Even if Morrissey were to tour here sans Lollapalooza I probably still wouldn't go if the prices were anything like that.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Friday, 2 April 2004 17:12 (twenty-one years ago)

what is the password to the Grove show?

bob, Friday, 2 April 2004 17:41 (twenty-one years ago)

What is your lack of reading ability for about six posts back?

http://www.playlouder.com/news/+47daystogo/

Track by track review in Playlouder! getting excited....(with this and the new Mission of Burma I'm worried I'm setting myself up for double disappointment, but this did get me really pumped up, as they say!)

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Friday, 2 April 2004 18:17 (twenty-one years ago)

I have ticket to Tues and Thurs -- which are the only days the pre-sale would offer to me. May try for more tomorrow...

Mary (Mary), Friday, 2 April 2004 23:51 (twenty-one years ago)

How much are they Mary?

Aaron W (Aaron W), Saturday, 3 April 2004 03:03 (twenty-one years ago)

The lyrics quoted in that PlayLouder preview are excellent. He really is our world champion heavyweight wordsmith.

Momus (Momus), Saturday, 3 April 2004 04:21 (twenty-one years ago)

You think?

I'm afraid I don't - and I love him.

But I have not seen the words of which you type.

This thread has in a way gone off the boil.

It seems Morrissey is to blame.

the pinefox, Saturday, 3 April 2004 13:17 (twenty-one years ago)

The tix, dear Aaron, are sold in increments of $45, $65, and $75. And they go on-sale at 12 noon today.

Mary (Mary), Saturday, 3 April 2004 13:42 (twenty-one years ago)

I can't remember the bloody words. I've been going around singing "Irish Blood, English Heart / Lou off Neighbours"

Lynskey (Lynskey), Saturday, 3 April 2004 13:57 (twenty-one years ago)

12:08..... they all seem to be sold out. Ah well.

Aaron W (Aaron W), Saturday, 3 April 2004 16:09 (twenty-one years ago)

They're not sold out!!! I just got one for Mon. and Carey is at the Apallo as we speak. Keep trying!

Mary (Mary), Saturday, 3 April 2004 16:18 (twenty-one years ago)

I was trying Fri and Sat..... oh well.....

Aaron W (Aaron W), Saturday, 3 April 2004 16:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Keep trying. I really don't think they are sold out yet.

Mary (Mary), Saturday, 3 April 2004 16:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Carey got us tix for Fri & Sat...looks like I'm going to all 5 shows.

Mary (Mary), Saturday, 3 April 2004 16:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Ha, I got my ass up at 10am after drinking a bottle of wine and a whiskey topper last night. Trucked from Williamsburg to 125th street with my hungry houseguest and fortunately happened to have a shitload of cash on me, so I got to go in the much shorter cash only line. Got the last tickets to Saturday (2nd row orchestra) and got 4th row mezzanine for Friday.

Mary is so my bitch now.

Carey (Carey), Saturday, 3 April 2004 21:04 (twenty-one years ago)

is it getting to be too late to buy tickets for the apollo shows, d'ya think? this whole "last tickets to saturday" business that carey mentions has me a little flustered... please give hope.

justin s., Monday, 5 April 2004 01:02 (twenty-one years ago)

It profoundly depresses me that there's 112 times as much discussion about dates and ticket prices for a Morrissey show in 2004, than there is for, say, the Madlib/Mf Doom Madvillain tour.

Kind of puts to rest the idea that all the indie kids have moved on, huh?

paulhw (paulhw), Monday, 5 April 2004 02:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Thank you for your observation. We will now destroy all of music recorded before 2004 and start fresh.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 5 April 2004 02:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Let me know when it gets to "Morrissey /Ticketmaster and other indie throw-downs pt. 7" ok!! jerk!!!!!!

Sonny A. (Keiko), Monday, 5 April 2004 02:11 (twenty-one years ago)

erm, doom etc are 15 years old, but the difference is...they're *vital* in 2004. just find it funny how so many people here won't ever really give up their morrissey / pixies / new order stuff, even though they know it won't ever amount to much again.
but sentimentality's a funny thing.

paulhw (paulhw), Monday, 5 April 2004 02:17 (twenty-one years ago)

they're *vital* in 2004

Not this again! Vitality however defined is where you find it. Complaining about a bunch of people getting excited over this album -- and no matter how much you complain, they sure as hell are and don't give a damn about what strictures you apply to what 'counts' and what doesn't -- is going to seem really funny to you in fifteen more years when you're all excited about MF Doom's new comeback album and people wonder what you're doing listening to old man music.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 5 April 2004 02:20 (twenty-one years ago)

This guy at a party the other day (he's really into mf doom, btw) told me he heard "I Have Forgiven Jesus" and it sucks. I really didn't want to believe it.

Sonny A. (Keiko), Monday, 5 April 2004 02:23 (twenty-one years ago)

also Ned OTM

Sonny A. (Keiko), Monday, 5 April 2004 02:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, but I don't make a habit of looking out for comeback albums. I mean, the *new thing* isn't necessarily the best thing, but a slavish devotion to music that was an adolescent crush seems a bit...{insert here}.
anway, i guess i'm just becoming a little disillusioned by discussion based around the diea of "ilm" that gives more thread inches to the la's than goodie mob, or to new order than jeff mills.
but that's the nature of a board started by guitarist indie lovers, i spose.
and no one ever really convinces others about good music, you're right.
each to their own! and other midless signoffs...

paulhw (paulhw), Monday, 5 April 2004 02:27 (twenty-one years ago)

patronising and inaccurate, well done!

the surface noise (electricsound), Monday, 5 April 2004 02:39 (twenty-one years ago)

THE NEW MORRISSEY SINGLE IS FANTASTIC. I THINK IT IS ABOUT POLITICS OR SOMETHING.

christhamrin (christhamrin), Monday, 5 April 2004 02:47 (twenty-one years ago)

inaccurate in what ways?

paulhw (paulhw), Monday, 5 April 2004 03:21 (twenty-one years ago)

"a board started by guitarist indie lovers" - i think Tom would take issue with this. and i sure as heck can't remember a La's or New Order thread in, well, bloody ages. i mean, as strawmen go those are pretty flimsy.

the surface noise (electricsound), Monday, 5 April 2004 03:25 (twenty-one years ago)

do a search. count the results for each.

paulhw (paulhw), Monday, 5 April 2004 03:29 (twenty-one years ago)

You sort of would expect New Order to get more mentions than Jeff Mills.

Aaron A., Monday, 5 April 2004 03:53 (twenty-one years ago)

i dont think mf doom is very relevant to be honest. i think its depressing that people would talk about mf doom here instead of ying yang twins, lil jon or ruff sqwad. this is 2004, people!

kind of puts to an end the idea that the backpackers have moved on out their little ghetto doesnt it?

gareth (gareth), Monday, 5 April 2004 05:30 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah it's so weird that there are more threads for hugely successful pop bands than there are for obscure indie rap artists! how odd....

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Monday, 5 April 2004 14:00 (twenty-one years ago)

I was a guitarist indie lover for a big chunk of my listening life so I'm not exactly offended esoj. I don't like the idea that you shouldn't at least take an interest in stuff your adolescent self idolised though - it seems a bit scorched earth.

It seems to me there were two quite chunky threads about the madvillainy album though.

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Monday, 5 April 2004 14:11 (twenty-one years ago)

i like MF Doom, too, but let's be honest he is the Bob Pollard of hip hop!

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Monday, 5 April 2004 14:33 (twenty-one years ago)

This is what I suspected. But I guess I don't appreciate what's vital or anything.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 5 April 2004 15:19 (twenty-one years ago)

survivor had a record called vital signs...music doesn't get much more vital than that! I think you would really like it, Ned.

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Monday, 5 April 2004 15:23 (twenty-one years ago)

No way man, they sold out after "The American Heartbeat."

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 5 April 2004 15:25 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm shocked at someone considering undie hip hop "vital" in the 21st century. Morrissey will deliver peace and happiness to millions and bring various Mexican gangs together in a state of harmony, all in a stylish manner with elaborate hair--this is certainly more exciting than Dr Octagon part 1124908234.

http://www.scribeweekly.com/morrissey.jpg

I'm the only person I know who actually liked (and likes) Maladjusted so it's sick and wrong how excited I am about this new one.

adam (adam), Monday, 5 April 2004 15:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 5 April 2004 16:00 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm not shocked, but I am bemused.

The Mozfather

Mary (Mary), Thursday, 8 April 2004 05:57 (twenty-one years ago)

He is looking great in that pic.

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Thursday, 8 April 2004 06:19 (twenty-one years ago)

It makes him look like a racehorse.

N. (nickdastoor), Thursday, 8 April 2004 15:12 (twenty-one years ago)

He is looking great, for his age, unlike some, of us.

I don't think I see the horse element.

I wonder whether he helped some into, as well as through, their darkest hours?

the bluefox, Thursday, 8 April 2004 15:39 (twenty-one years ago)

He is looking more and more like Morrissey. Good (Old) Morrissey.

the blissfox, Thursday, 8 April 2004 15:58 (twenty-one years ago)

I think he looks like a good looking middle aged man...nothing wrong with that....nice dresser...he has some bomb suits in the new GQ interview/photo spread...the white one he's rocking in front of the high school is badass..

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Thursday, 8 April 2004 15:59 (twenty-one years ago)

I was especially impressed by his hair, oddly. He has been looking a bit threadbare, up top, recently... but no more. The power of a substantial quiff.

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Thursday, 8 April 2004 18:34 (twenty-one years ago)

I am also tickled by the thought of La Moz... in ties.

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Thursday, 8 April 2004 18:36 (twenty-one years ago)

omg i would totally make out with him

Sonny A. (Keiko), Thursday, 8 April 2004 18:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Interview with Morrissey in The Guardian yesterday:

(If anyone can't get to that, shout, and I'll copy and paste the full text.)

Snnap Dragon (snnap dragon), Saturday, 10 April 2004 10:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Even now he's dogged by statements he made years ago, like the time he told the NME "reggae is vile", despite being a reggae fan. "I said reggae is wild," he protests.

OK, I still love him.

N. (nickdastoor), Saturday, 10 April 2004 10:46 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't really think reggae is vile.

Possibly some of it is wild?

I think reggae is quite boring, and some of it is ugly.

the bluefox, Saturday, 10 April 2004 11:06 (twenty-one years ago)

So, like everything in life, really.

N. (nickdastoor), Saturday, 10 April 2004 11:14 (twenty-one years ago)

No.

For instance, you are neither.

the bellefox, Saturday, 10 April 2004 12:14 (twenty-one years ago)

The show at The Grove in Anaheim was fantastic. Moz sounded and looked really awesome. Played 3 Smiths songs including my favorite Smiths tune of all time, "There Is A Light That Never Goes Out". Was bummed though he didn't do "Suede Head" though on the setlists but what a great evening. Thanks.

lawrence t, Wednesday, 21 April 2004 03:33 (twenty-one years ago)

www.youarethequarry.net has posted realaudio 1 min snippets of Come Back to Camden and You Know I Couldn't Last....the password is "hector"....

I found these both quite nice, kinda big ballad showtune Moz a la Now My Heart Is Full.....Really rousing chorus on You Know I Couldn't Last....

John Cei Douglas (John Cei Douglas), Saturday, 8 May 2004 00:43 (twenty-one years ago)

does anyone think that the lyrics to 'america is not the world' are utterly hilarious. i mean laughoutloud funny.

myke boomnoise (myke boomnoise), Tuesday, 11 May 2004 15:06 (twenty-one years ago)

so this bitch is out in stores: COMMENT.

bill stevens (bscrubbins), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 18:37 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm giving it a qualified thumbs up....I'm a little disppointed in the track listing, some of the songs he played on tour and some on the songs on the Irish Blood English Heart single are prob. better than some of the weaker tracks, still I like the production alot, really sticks out....I Like You is esp. helped by the production imo...America is Not the World, I Have Forgiven Jesus, and Let Me Kiss You are favs of the stuff I hadn't heard...First of the Gang is obv. awesome, also slated as the next single (hopefully with Mexico as a b-side!)...one of his best songs in forever...

How Can Anybody Know How I Possibly Feel suck balls though.

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 18:44 (twenty-one years ago)

But how can you know that?

Its good to see the mozza getting more of the spotlight, and even better to know that his new record isnt unlistenable MOR crap. Im also really surprised with the hard core 80s nostalgia going around these days. I think new order to need to wrap their album up ASAP and cash in on this inexplicable mania.

bill stevens (bscrubbins), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 18:54 (twenty-one years ago)

One listen through and it's pretty damned great to my ears. I will have to think and reflect on it more later, tho...

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 19:19 (twenty-one years ago)

All of the songs, especially the slow songs, sounded much better in concert. I heard a few of the slow songs before hand (I Have Forgiven Jesus and The Other One that I Can't Remember at the Moment), and thought, meh, but they made sense in person. Bring me the head of Jerry Finn.

Mary (Mary), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 19:52 (twenty-one years ago)

(The other song is called, How Could Anyone Possibly Know How I Feel, of course.) Brilliant in concert.

Mary (Mary), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 19:53 (twenty-one years ago)

The only song I liked on first listen was "America Is Not The World." Otherwise I found it interminable and depressing.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 20:03 (twenty-one years ago)

I really wish they'd brought in somebody else to produce "Come Back to Camden" like maybe Nigel Godrich - I know Godrich is an overdropped name but I feel like his touch for grandeur would've been welcome on some of these tracks. Album's good but not as great as some of my friends seem to think.

J0hn Darn1elle (J0hn Darn1elle), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 20:09 (twenty-one years ago)

I think the fact that it isnt shit has people over-excited.

bill stevens (bscrubbins), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 20:11 (twenty-one years ago)

"The World is Full Of Crashing Bores" is my favorite Moz tune since "Jack The Ripper"

As a whole, I like it fine. I think I'm just too old to feel the way I used to about him.

roger adultery (roger adultery), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 20:11 (twenty-one years ago)

The album would be a lot more listenable if the production was better. Morrissey's voice is so high in the mix and everything else feels so distant that its impossible for me to get into the music. I have a hard time believing that the same guys who made the riffs on Your Arsenal and Southpaw Grammar had anything to do with this album.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 20:41 (twenty-one years ago)

plus the album is so fucking slow it kills me.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 20:41 (twenty-one years ago)

I think Come Back to Camden is lovely, but J0hn's right about the production....the synth strings seem a bit cheesy and cheap in the context...

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 20:51 (twenty-one years ago)

anthony you should check out It's Hard to Walk Tall When You're Small, one of the b-sides from the IBEH single...it totally has the Your Arsenal vibe (although the verse chord changes seem swiped from Do Your Best and Don't Worry)...great song!

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 20:53 (twenty-one years ago)

John Cale was apparently rumored to be a possible producer earlier on; though it would have ended in tears no doubt, surely a finer product would have surfaced.

Mary (Mary), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 20:59 (twenty-one years ago)

I know Pitchfork-review bashing has been done to death, but this paragraph of Brent D.'s insane review of Quarry made me want to kill:

"That's a rather considerable caveat to tag on the end on a review, but if you're listening to Morrissey albums for riffs and licks you're missing the point. Any instrumental bed under such incandescent personality and booming voice would pale. Envisioning the songwriter at work brings to mind a woman picking at an acoustic or a fellow hunched over a piano with a drink. The genesis of Morrissey music remains ambiguous both physically and in intent."

WTF????? Morrissey's best stuff usually coincides with the best music! How many great Smiths and early solo songs feature the dude SCATTING because the music is so great he's getting swept up into it? Has he ever HEARD an early album?

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 22:12 (twenty-one years ago)

or your arsenal even..

Didn't moz's band change a bit? I think they got a new drummer, but I wasnt aware if alain white was still around or not..

bill stevens (bscrubbins), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 22:18 (twenty-one years ago)

miccio otm although i liked the album (and production - its shiny like cheap shiny items)

christhamrin (christhamrin), Thursday, 20 May 2004 00:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Anyone who still doesn't own this but is thinking of getting the double disc version with DVD, do NOT waste your money. The DVD is the video, which is pretty lame, lyrics (which are unnecessary since you get the lyrics in a booklet) and 10 pictures.

Not that I should care what's on the DVD, but considering the price of the double disc version, I feel ripped off.

Jonathan (Jonathan), Thursday, 20 May 2004 11:01 (twenty-one years ago)

i haven't checked out the dvd, but the store i went to didn't have anything BUT the deluxe package so I was kinda stuck...

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Thursday, 20 May 2004 15:23 (twenty-one years ago)

WTF????? Morrissey's best stuff usually coincides with the best music! How many great Smiths and early solo songs feature the dude SCATTING because the music is so great he's getting swept up into it? Has he ever HEARD an early album?

Yeah, Miccio is completely otm. I really can't comment on the merit of the new album yet, I still haven't had a chance to listen to it.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Thursday, 20 May 2004 16:35 (twenty-one years ago)

2 new songs not on the album:

Don't make fun of Daddy's Voice.

Candle to you

Sébastien Chikara (Sébastien Chikara), Thursday, 20 May 2004 17:36 (twenty-one years ago)

man that Candle to You song is fricking AWESOME!!! I guess it's a cover of a band called Raymonde....amg doesn't have much on them...

Does anyone have the 411 re: Raymonde?? (Ned maybe?)

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Thursday, 20 May 2004 18:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Raymonde supported the Smiths on some early dates. Their James Maker would sometimes join Morrissey dancing on stage. I seem to recall their was some suggestion of a relationship between the two of them.

N. (nickdastoor), Thursday, 20 May 2004 19:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Google reveals that I've got my chronology in a bit of a mix - they supported them during 1986. A pre-Raymonde James Maker danced on stage at their debut 1982 gig.

N. (nickdastoor), Thursday, 20 May 2004 19:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Raymonde was Morrissey's good friend pre-Smiths. He was a VU-style dancer for the first two Smiths shows, until they realized they didn't need him. He will be performing at Meltdown, I think. He has an album that I forget the name of that is fairly well respected.

Mary (Mary), Thursday, 20 May 2004 19:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Raymonde was one guy? Always thought it was a band!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 20 May 2004 19:16 (twenty-one years ago)

It was.

N. (nickdastoor), Thursday, 20 May 2004 19:19 (twenty-one years ago)

I see that Attack released a solo single by James Maker earlier this year ("I'm Unbearable.").

N. (nickdastoor), Thursday, 20 May 2004 19:20 (twenty-one years ago)

James Maker - vocals
Phil Huish - guitar
Derek Thompson - bass
Leslie Westlake - drums

N. (nickdastoor), Thursday, 20 May 2004 19:21 (twenty-one years ago)

I listened to the album again today (damnit, I should refrain from posting about something until I've heard it at LEAST twice). My opinion is basically the same except the music annoyed me a little less and Mozz's lyrics annoyed me a little more. Some of them seem so uninspired, unsympathetic and pandering that I almost want him to cover "Jenny From The Block." As "First Of The Gang To Die" proves, he DOES love his public.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Thursday, 20 May 2004 20:44 (twenty-one years ago)

scratch "unsympathetic" and replace it with "unendearing."

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Thursday, 20 May 2004 20:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Liz Phair did this a lot better on her last record

danh, Thursday, 20 May 2004 20:46 (twenty-one years ago)

OTM!!!!

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Thursday, 20 May 2004 20:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Has anyone noticed how he only sings the chorus twice in every song? Punk rock 'n all, but it does dim the impact of some of it. The production's rotten, obviously -- I Have Forgiven You Jesus cries out for a more grandiose arrangement. And the closing track is just plain awful.

Chuck Tatum (Chuck Tatum), Thursday, 20 May 2004 21:14 (twenty-one years ago)

I haven't given the album a close enough listen yet, but after reading through the lyrics, I found it odd that there's two references to mooning. Just seems odd.

Jonathan (Jonathan), Friday, 21 May 2004 13:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Oho - I was bigging up Raymonde on some other Moz thread. Their lp - 'Babelogue' - is v good! I especially like the song 'Solid State Soul' - M. should have covered that one instead.

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Friday, 21 May 2004 13:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Here's an interview w/them by Paul Mathur from 86 or something. One of the first pieces to make me fall in love with pop writing:

http://www.ijamming.net/Jammingmagazine/Raymonde.html

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Friday, 21 May 2004 13:16 (twenty-one years ago)

And the closing track is just plain awful.

it's weird....I see that alot in reviews, but it's my favorite song on the album! I think it's got a great chorus and it's so frickin' over the top and self-obsessed I can't help but love it.

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Friday, 21 May 2004 13:19 (twenty-one years ago)

The lyrics are terrible, but the tunes and singing are fantastic. His third best album (after Viva Hate & Kill Uncle). Fourth if you include Bona Drag.

Eyeball Kicks (Eyeball Kicks), Friday, 21 May 2004 16:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Oho - I was bigging up Raymonde on some other Moz thread. Their lp - 'Babelogue' - is v good!

You know, I never checked out any music by Raymonde because I thought their name was so ridiculous. Maybe I should rectify this.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Friday, 21 May 2004 16:07 (twenty-one years ago)

I really don't see the production as being rotten. If anything I think it's a nice change from Lillywhite, who was certainly more than serviceable with that mid-nineties stretch and all but still.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 21 May 2004 16:10 (twenty-one years ago)

The production... Finn should just have made another "I Miss You" for the album. Or got Morrissey to cover "I Miss You". Whichever.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Friday, 21 May 2004 16:12 (twenty-one years ago)

The production is tasteful and dull, as it has been on every solo record. The production is not the point. The drums, however, sound great.

Eyeball Kicks (Eyeball Kicks), Friday, 21 May 2004 16:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, Babelogue was the record I was thinking of. Let's all become rabid Raymonde fans.

I'm still undecided on this album; there are some really good songs: "The First of the Gang to *Die!*" ("s*u*ch a silly boy...!"), the current single (which has actually got stuck in my head recently), "America is Not The World", "The World is Full of Crashing Bores" (the odd little "policemen..." bit especially), "Come Back To Camden" and the one after that. A lot of the rest has tended to pass me by on the first listens. This isn't a production that stands out, either positively or negatively. As Messr T. Ewing said, there's a rather surprising, excellent flute solo somewhere (I think track #5)...

Very difficult to compare actually; the sound of "Maladjusted"'s title track for instance was far more grabbing than most here. Yet there's a lot of average material at that album. There was however soem *great* Morrissey material like "Wide To Receive", "Trouble Loves Me" and possibly "Ammunition" & "Alma Matters" (bit plodding, but a decent single).

Morrissey is on the TV now !

I really wish they wouldn't let Jools loose. Especially for people to suffer the excrutiating experience of being interviewed by him.

I bet they have to restrain him from trying to boogy woogy every song on the show up. "But... but... if you'll just let me sit at the piano...." "No Jools."

i wonder if Morrissey told Junior Murvin and Johhny Clarke they were "vile" in the green room.

He wins points from me this time for this:

Jools "What's the best show you've ever been on?"

Moz "Badger Watch"

I'm not a huge Morrissey apologist, but that 'vile' thing really is a daft stick to beat him with (maybe you're joking, I don't know). As his recent, really quite funny response to questioning about it reveals. As does his choosing of The Cats' Swan Lake to go on his 'Under the Influence' compilation.

x-post - ha. I wish I'd watched the whole thing now.

"America is Not the World" sounds like "Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots" (the song).

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 18:52 (twenty-one years ago)

America is not the world is pretty damn brilliant. FAT PIGS.

I always wondered why in Estonia they said that.

(No I didn't.)

threw away all of my morrissey records after his manchester bombing comments on "immigrants" and told us how much he loves nigel farage. felt much better for it. though I should have done it after he called the chinese 'a subspecies'. new record will be shit, just like everything he's done in the last.... decade or more?

jamiesummerz, Tuesday, 22 August 2017 14:06 (eight years ago)

Never mind all that (well, ok plus..)

Etienne Records?

I mean I'm sure Bob and co aren't involved...

But a bit rude to not ask permission etc.

Mark G, Tuesday, 22 August 2017 20:03 (eight years ago)

I predict that this album, like all Morrissey albums, will have at least a few really good songs on it.
