My Boxed Valentine
by Bernardo Rondeau | 02.06.2004

More info has leaked regarding the long-awaited anthology from dreamscape drone legends My Bloody Valentine. Fansite To Here Knows Web has posted what appears to be a thorough accounting for the contents of the as-yet-untitled (though seemingly forthcoming) box set. Expected to be limited to only a few thousand copies, the package will be made up of two separate boxes and a DVD spanning the band's entire career. There's no telling at the moment whether each box will be sold separately or as a single collection, or even what label will release it. Secret info as follows:

Box 1:
THIS IS YOUR BLOODY VALENTINE LP (1985)
GEEK EP (1985)
THE NEW RECORD EP (1986)
SUNNY SUNDAE SMILE EP (1987)
STRAWBERRY WINE EP (1987)
ECSTASY EP (1987)
LIVE 1984-87 (new double-CD)

Box 2:
YOU MADE ME REALISE EP (1988)
FEED ME WITH YOUR KISS EP (1988)
ISN'T ANYTHING LP (1988)
GLIDE EP (1990)
TREMOLO EP (1990)
LOVELESS LP (1991)
LIVE 1987-92 (new quadruple-CD)

While Box 1--a repackaging of previously released, though hard-to-find, music from the group's salad days as a Cramps-ish, quasi-Goth combo to their experimentations with jangly paisley pop--will be unembellished by bonus materials save for the live album, Box 2 easily promises to be the anxiously sought prize for many an MBV fan. The second set feature outtakes and "alternate versions" for all four epochal EPS and two albums issued by the band from 1987 to their quiet disappearance in '92. Of particular interest will be five tracks that were originally slated to appear on 1988's Glide EP (thus making it a full-length and what fledgling rock historians will surely begin to call "the lost album". Not only have these buried songs been unearthed, they have apparently been re-recorded by Shields with former bandmates Bilinda Butcher and Colm O'Ciosoig. However, there doesn't look like there will be any post-Loveless or new material included from the band's decade-long lull/breakup. Though we may wonder what happened in that 10-year span of public silence, it may be best to end this collection with a triumphant final chapter--the unrivalled masterpiece Loveless--than a patchy postscript.

In addition, both live albums are digitally remastered from original soundboard tapes and the DVD will be comprised of all of the band's music videos, three separate live shows spliced together as one, various television interviews and personal "camcorder footage." Considering that there isn't even any official info on the box set, one can expect the speculated release date of late 2005/early 2006 to be optimistic at best. Regardless, after the palatable morsels he dished out for the Lost In Translation soundtrack, it seems Shields is ready to engorge us with a patiently awaited feast. Bring your own acids (regular and ant-).

Stupid (Stupid), Friday, 6 February 2004 22:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Gee, sucks. No way I'd purchase THAT.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 6 February 2004 22:10 (twenty-two years ago)

(Certainly not to play it nearly constantly after I got it especially the live discs in the second box oh no no no no.)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 6 February 2004 22:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Hah, yeah, totally. I mean... the albums they released were NOT the best albums anyone has ever recorded in the history of anything ever, so I don't know what I'd want with a "lost" My Bloody Valentine album. BORING.

Stupid (Stupid), Friday, 6 February 2004 22:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Of course, a little more attribution would be nice and all. Who is the reporter and where did this info come from, if not PipeDreamWorld?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 6 February 2004 22:14 (twenty-two years ago)

the smugness hangs heavy like a polluted cloud

omg, Friday, 6 February 2004 22:16 (twenty-two years ago)

NOOO idea, I got this from someone on another message board. It might be bullshit, but it might not, so... there you go.

On a completely unrelated note, Wings Of Joy the Cranes album arrived in the post this morning and YOUR TASTE IN MUSIC OWNS THE FUCKING WORLD NED.

Stupid (Stupid), Friday, 6 February 2004 22:17 (twenty-two years ago)

It's not April yet, it is cruel to torment Ned so.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Friday, 6 February 2004 22:19 (twenty-two years ago)

So please, carry on.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 6 February 2004 22:19 (twenty-two years ago)

yes april is the cruellest month for ned

omg, Friday, 6 February 2004 22:20 (twenty-two years ago)

that appeared on mybloodyvalentine.net, it was preceded by this:

According to a mail I got recently (Jan 12, 200) from a very reliable source, there is indeed a box set coming. (Ed: I believe this one) In fact there are 2 box sets coming out, plus a DVD! Sadly they probably won't be released until late 2005 or early 2006. The Anthology will be a Island/Sire release. Contary to popular belief, Kevin's contract to Island is still valid. So apparently the news of the box set being scrapped were false.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 6 February 2004 22:24 (twenty-two years ago)

A couple of things:
1) The Glider EP (actually 1990) is probably the best thing they did,
better than either of the albums, so if there's a whole lost album of
that stuff out there I'll kill for it.
2) I saw them live three times 91/92 and each time they played a
version of You Made Me Realise with about ten minutes (I'm not
exaggerating ) of pure insane noise. Again, I'd quite fancy hearing
that.

jamiefake, Friday, 6 February 2004 22:29 (twenty-two years ago)

I sense mockery in some above posts! *cries*

I was lucky enough to be at what proved to be The Final Ever Show in LA. At that point -- I timed it -- it was 35 minutes long.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 6 February 2004 22:30 (twenty-two years ago)

kevin has repeatedly stated his utter lack of desire to reissue anything pre-Creation so i think the box tracklisting is bollocks.

the surface noise (electricsound), Friday, 6 February 2004 22:31 (twenty-two years ago)

but then Buckingham Nicks might be reissued soon so anything's possible

the surface noise (electricsound), Friday, 6 February 2004 22:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Even statues coming to life and stuff?

Lynskey (Lynskey), Friday, 6 February 2004 22:35 (twenty-two years ago)

they have eerie powers

the surface noise (electricsound), Friday, 6 February 2004 22:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Actually I wonder if this will sort of lower MBV's critical reputation, insofar as it will make the early stuff a more official component of thier catalog and basically dilute the bit that everyone likes.

Although possibly not, seeing as (a) this does seem like the best possible time to get that early stuff circulating more widely, what with everyone a bit more interested than usual in that particular sound; plus (b) I still really do think that some of the Dave Conway material -- the New Record By and S.S.S. stuff -- is quite terrific. Maybe not mindblowingly "serious" -- more just like a campy happy version of the JaMC -- but terrific nonetheless.

The live material may actually thankfully put nails in the coffin of the idea that Loveless &c were big studio efforts.

nabiscothingy, Friday, 6 February 2004 22:42 (twenty-two years ago)

agreed about the live stuff. I actually have a self recorded cassette from an SF show and it is just as mind blowing as the studio stuff. I liked how Colm would watch these lights to keep tempo with some of the samples (but only on a couple songs).

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 6 February 2004 22:51 (twenty-two years ago)

and Ned, I think I've previously noted that I was also at that last ever show!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 6 February 2004 22:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Yay!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 6 February 2004 22:53 (twenty-two years ago)

SWEETNESS

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Friday, 6 February 2004 22:57 (twenty-two years ago)

35 minutes? What did everyone do? In London people kind of
jumped around for a couple of minutes then just stared at
each other grinning until the tune eventually kicked in again.

jamiefake, Friday, 6 February 2004 23:00 (twenty-two years ago)

So what would be on the DVD?

ben welsh (benwelsh), Friday, 6 February 2004 23:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Live stuff, but hopefully also the video for "Soon" which is one of my favorite things ever. The earlier video for "You Made Me Realise" is great too. It reminded me of Galaxie 500's "Tugboat" video.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 6 February 2004 23:07 (twenty-two years ago)

35 minutes? What did everyone do? In London people kind of
jumped around for a couple of minutes then just stared at
each other grinning until the tune eventually kicked in again.

Oh, it was fantastic. Some people staggered away, others just sorta swayed, whole bunch up in front getting into it...

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 6 February 2004 23:10 (twenty-two years ago)

When I saw them do it in NYC, there was some crowdsurfing, some dancing, some people flipping them the bird, but eventually the band beat everyone into slack-jawed submission.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Sunday, 8 February 2004 12:48 (twenty-two years ago)

This seems kinda cool, although I already have pretty much all of it (vids included) on cd/vinyl/vid anyway so I'm not entirely sure wether to shell out. If it ever appears. Hmm.

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 8 February 2004 12:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Actually I wonder if this will sort of lower MBV's critical reputation....

One can but hope

Dadaismus (Dada), Sunday, 8 February 2004 13:02 (twenty-two years ago)

heh heh

mentalist (mentalist), Sunday, 8 February 2004 13:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Late '05/Early '06? OPTIMISTIC AT BEST?????

I would really rather not have heard this news at all. Two years is such a long time.

The Good Dr. Bill (Andrew Unterberger), Sunday, 8 February 2004 14:53 (twenty-two years ago)

I spoke to someone (honest)involved in loveless sessions and he says kevin laid all the songs to tape at the start using just one guitar and vocal then fleshed it out later - ie it was less studio trickery than you might think.

i would *love* to hear 'glider' completed and released as the lp it was always meant to be - essential purchase.

nope, Sunday, 8 February 2004 15:19 (twenty-two years ago)

but not if i have to buy all of the boxes! too much money.

Ian Johnson (orion), Sunday, 8 February 2004 19:12 (twenty-two years ago)

it does seem kinda extravagant for a box with about 18 potential buyers.

keith m (keithmcl), Sunday, 8 February 2004 22:13 (twenty-two years ago)

But as one of those buyers, I thank them.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 8 February 2004 22:14 (twenty-two years ago)

18 potential buyers??? Judging by the percentage of ILM MBV fans, I guess it would have some more demand... ;)

JP Almeida (JP Almeida), Sunday, 8 February 2004 22:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Sign me up for one too.

Siegbran (eofor), Sunday, 8 February 2004 22:38 (twenty-two years ago)

people people please don't get too excited about this, the chances of it actually happening are about as likely as scott walker duetting with kraftwerk on a cover of "all the things she said"

the surface noise (electricsound), Sunday, 8 February 2004 22:50 (twenty-two years ago)

*doodlydoodlydoodly*

ITEM! Some legendary German group to sing with some balding American dude on some Russian duo's song.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 8 February 2004 22:51 (twenty-two years ago)

O.O;;;

*weeps*

the end of the world is at hand! it's official!

janni (janni), Monday, 9 February 2004 17:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Anybody else notice how pitchfork broke month old news this morning. lame.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Monday, 9 February 2004 18:25 (twenty-two years ago)

grrr!!! i wish people would stop reporting this as news!! wishful thinking doesn't make it so!!!

the surface noise (electricsound), Monday, 9 February 2004 22:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Uncut has a feature on MBV this month, and says box set out in like May 2004.

Enrique (Enrique), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 09:43 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm not even a big fan, but i'm excited about this.

Dave M. (rotten03), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 09:56 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm excited for all those people, unlike me, that are excited.

mentalist (mentalist), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 12:40 (twenty-two years ago)

So if all the people that are not excited, are excited...

That means everybody is excited.

mark grout (mark grout), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 12:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Out of curiosity, who here will buy the boxsets, and will you buy both?

I'll say yes to both (and apologise to my wallet).

Jedmond, Tuesday, 10 February 2004 12:49 (twenty-two years ago)

''LIVE 1987-92 (new quadruple-CD)''

I would buy one boxset just to hear this. All of my fave psych bands have fucking great live CDs and we really need one from them.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 13:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Out of curiosity, who here will buy the boxsets, and will you buy both?

My answer is implicit.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 14:01 (twenty-two years ago)

I would buy both. i've only heard other people's tapes of the live loveless era and it would be nice to have that stuff.(i don't count the almost unlistenable/unwatchable bootleg video i bought on ebay. yeesh.)

scott seward (scott seward), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 14:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Does anyone else find it completely maddening that the release date is estimated as "late 2005/early 2006 to be optimistic at best?" This is simply way too much time for whatever to happen that prevents this from ever actually seeing the light of day. I'll believe it when I see/hear it. Otherwise, I can't get excited about it.

rainman (rainman), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 15:05 (twenty-two years ago)

had i the firstborn child to sell money at the time, i'd probably buy both.

janni (janni), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 15:15 (twenty-two years ago)

I never doubted you Ned.

Jedmond, Tuesday, 10 February 2004 15:23 (twenty-two years ago)

i've only heard loveless but i've always wanted to hear more,so if i had the money when they came out i would definitely buy them

robin (robin), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 17:44 (twenty-two years ago)

had i the firstborn child to sell

Well, you've still got plenty of time to conceive and give birth, so you're set!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 17:45 (twenty-two years ago)

well, since i have no desire whatsoever to have a child at all, that's unfortunately unlikely to happen.

unless you'd like to carry my firstborn for me? c'mon, Ned---it's all for MBV, after all~~! ;)

janni (janni), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 18:06 (twenty-two years ago)

FOR THE GOOD OF THE MUSICAL WORLD! I want to have babies.

http://bau2.uibk.ac.at/sg/python/Scripts/LifeOfBrian/jpgs/07-stan.jpg

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 18:08 (twenty-two years ago)

thank goodness for that, then!

Coming Soon to an ILM Near You! SMFKS!

(Surrogate Mums for Kevin Shields)

what'll you do if those boxes don't come out, though? who else is worth that sort of pain...?

janni (janni), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 18:46 (twenty-two years ago)

haha "release date late 2012/early 2106"

amateur!st (amateurist), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 20:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Stop being so naive amateur!st, although I admire your confidence.

Chewshabadoo (Chewshabadoo), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 22:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Does anyone else find it completely maddening that the release date is estimated as "late 2005/early 2006 to be optimistic at best?"

what's maddening is that people are still believing this obvious hoax of a tracklisting.

the surface noise (electricsound), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 22:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 17 March 2004 18:35 (twenty-two years ago)

And this is actually real, is it? Hmm...

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 17 March 2004 18:37 (twenty-two years ago)

There are four(!) never released tracks on that second disc. Also, I'm wondering who did the remastering.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 17 March 2004 18:39 (twenty-two years ago)

A long version of "Glider" = I am a happy, happy man.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 17 March 2004 18:45 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm wondering if it's the same version that backs the 12" single of the Andrew Weatherall mix of "Soon"

Also, I'm thinking it's real because I've never even heard those four unreleased track names. I'll post the cover art here as soon as I see it.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 17 March 2004 18:46 (twenty-two years ago)

That first disc would basically be the best MBV album ever.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 17 March 2004 18:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Hell yeah. I'm all over this.

adam (adam), Wednesday, 17 March 2004 18:54 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm wondering if it's the same version that backs the 12" single of the Andrew Weatherall mix of "Soon"

That's what I thought...and I hope it isn't, actually.

That first disc would basically be the best MBV album ever.

Both the version I made and the one you made make for good listening. :-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 17 March 2004 19:02 (twenty-two years ago)

"Drive It All Over Me" is their most accessible song. I play that for anyone I've ever wanted to 'convert' and they invariably ask "who is this?"

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 17 March 2004 19:06 (twenty-two years ago)

bump. this is HUGE news!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 17 March 2004 21:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Whys it cost 40$? WTF?

christhamrin (christhamrin), Wednesday, 17 March 2004 21:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Japanese imports are always expensive like that.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 17 March 2004 21:37 (twenty-two years ago)

They're usually worth it though. They always seem to be more nicely put together in terms of packaging and extras than other cds.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Wednesday, 17 March 2004 21:38 (twenty-two years ago)

OW OW OW, I was all set to actually go through with this order until they tried to charge me ??2,300 for shipping. That's just outrageous.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Wednesday, 17 March 2004 21:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Maybe we should pool our resources and get them to ship multiple copies over in a single box, if the shipping would be any cheaper!

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Wednesday, 17 March 2004 21:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Actually, it just occurred to me that if they stay true to form as with other Japanese releases, they will have attempted lyric transcriptions with this collection. It will be worth the $40 alone.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 17 March 2004 21:42 (twenty-two years ago)

That might work.

x-post

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Wednesday, 17 March 2004 21:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Ned is OTM on that last point

i've ordered from HMV Japan before, the packaging is outrageously excessive and probably accounts for a fair chunk of the huge postage cost. my $25 CD was $62 by the end of it. it may be worth waiting for (a) the UK/US release or (b) til multiple copies start turning up on eBay (and they will)..

the surface noise (electricsound), Wednesday, 17 March 2004 22:09 (twenty-two years ago)

the shipping costs nearly made me cancel it, but i went through with it anyway... a lot of the stuff i only have on mp3, collecting all the individual ep's would've been much cheaper, i figured.

can't wait to see it!

willem (willem), Wednesday, 17 March 2004 22:11 (twenty-two years ago)

you'll get it quickly - they send it by FedEx.

the surface noise (electricsound), Wednesday, 17 March 2004 22:13 (twenty-two years ago)

erm, that should've read: collecting all the individual ep's would've been much more expensive...

jim - expected delivery date: march 22!

willem (willem), Wednesday, 17 March 2004 22:21 (twenty-two years ago)

I emailed a couple of people at my favorite import stores and will let you know what they say about getting copies here.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 17 March 2004 23:04 (twenty-two years ago)

We will get this.

We WILL get this.

It's all taken care of.

donut bitch (donut), Wednesday, 17 March 2004 23:13 (twenty-two years ago)

db is an enigma!

also, can't Momus call Sofia Coppola and get her to ask Hiromix to send us a case of these or something?

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 17 March 2004 23:18 (twenty-two years ago)

HMV list price = 3000 Yen + 5% tax = 3150 Yen = ~ $29 US

HMV has horrible shipping options, amazon japan is much better, i imagine you could get this for about $38 in about 2 weeks delivery time to the west coast of the USA.

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 18 March 2004 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Not bad. When I get a job secured I will make the transaction. I need fancy box sets.

christhamrin (christhamrin), Thursday, 18 March 2004 00:06 (twenty-two years ago)

I think it's just a double CD btw. Also, Amazon.co.jp is not listing it yet.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 18 March 2004 00:08 (twenty-two years ago)

following up from Spencer's question ... has anybody heard anything about the remastering? I'd assume that Kevin wouldn't let anybody else near the tapes ...

Barry Bruner (Barry Bruner), Thursday, 18 March 2004 00:13 (twenty-two years ago)

don't you think this would have been mentioned in the guardian article last week? doesn't that make this suspicious?

anthony kyle monday (akmonday), Thursday, 18 March 2004 00:38 (twenty-two years ago)

"Sugar" is one of their very finest songs, but that long version of "Glider" (if it's the one I'm thinking of) is just interminable. Good thing they're putting it as the closer.

The Good Dr. Bill (Andrew Unterberger), Thursday, 18 March 2004 00:41 (twenty-two years ago)

don't you think this would have been mentioned in the guardian article last week? doesn't that make this suspicious?

Again, I would be more suspicious if it weren't for the naming of tracks I've never even heard about.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 18 March 2004 00:58 (twenty-two years ago)

that and the fact it has a record company-sanctioned release date

the surface noise (electricsound), Thursday, 18 March 2004 02:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Actually what IS the company releasing?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 18 March 2004 02:36 (twenty-two years ago)

VERY badly phrased! What is the releasing company, I mean to ask.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 18 March 2004 02:36 (twenty-two years ago)

The forum at mybloodyvalentine.net mentions CBS Records.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 18 March 2004 02:43 (twenty-two years ago)

it's also listed on Amazon.co.uk

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 18 March 2004 02:49 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah, i gather it's columbia/sony

(xpost)

the surface noise (electricsound), Thursday, 18 March 2004 02:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Which follows, they have the rights to Creation and all. Well well.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 18 March 2004 02:51 (twenty-two years ago)

this has been up on siren disc for about a week now. it doesn't have their cover of map ref on it!

fortunate hazel (f. hazel), Thursday, 18 March 2004 02:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, that's from after they left Creation, so I'm not surprised. To be totally complete they'd also need "We Have All the Time In the World" on there and that too was done after they left for Island.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 18 March 2004 02:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Also, all this stuff is pre-Loveless. I'm completely satisfied with the track selection. It is an awesome collection of music and an essential release for anyone without these EPs.

....patience is what?

willem (willem), Thursday, 18 March 2004 10:23 (twenty-two years ago)

update from mybloodyvalentine.net

Update: March 23. This release has been postponed, problably due to the fact that apparently Kevin just got the masters from Island. No new release date has been set.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 25 March 2004 01:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Ha ha!

N. (nickdastoor), Thursday, 25 March 2004 02:00 (twenty-one years ago)

masters? from Island? que? what the hell were they doing with them?

the surface noise (electricsound), Thursday, 25 March 2004 02:02 (twenty-one years ago)

MBV did sign with Island for a huge advance, some of it probably went to Creation to help bail them out due costs incurred making "Loveless" - losing the master tapes would have been part of the deal - Remember when Creation released a best of, it wasn't able to obtain any MBV songs.

Jedmond (Jedmond), Thursday, 25 March 2004 02:11 (twenty-one years ago)

oh ok

the surface noise (electricsound), Thursday, 25 March 2004 02:13 (twenty-one years ago)

cardboard is very expensive in japoan now. the fine for stealing from recyling centers is like $2000. china is buying all of the cardboard in japan.

keith m (keithmcl), Thursday, 25 March 2004 02:19 (twenty-one years ago)

THIS CHINESE CARDBOARD SUPER GUN WILL KILL US ALL

N. (nickdastoor), Thursday, 25 March 2004 02:21 (twenty-one years ago)

did anyone post this interview with Shields yet?

http://www.people.fas.harvard.edu/~hhsu/shields.html

don weiner, Thursday, 25 March 2004 15:02 (twenty-one years ago)

two unreleased songs from 'isnt anything'?
*faints*

zappi (joni), Thursday, 25 March 2004 15:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Stop the presses! The release of an MBV album has been delayed!

Barry Bruner (Barry Bruner), Thursday, 25 March 2004 15:45 (twenty-one years ago)

"No it's not, it's all real they're really doing it!"

Haha.

Francis Watlington (Francis Watlington), Thursday, 25 March 2004 17:46 (twenty-one years ago)

I must say: this latest development kind of amuses me.

Naive Teen Idol (Naive Teen Idol), Thursday, 25 March 2004 18:33 (twenty-one years ago)

It is hilarious and perfect.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Thursday, 25 March 2004 18:44 (twenty-one years ago)

And it does mean that I can wait and save up a little more spare cash for it = hurrah!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 25 March 2004 18:46 (twenty-one years ago)

one month passes...
I just ordered this from amazon.com! We'll see how long it takes for them to send me a notice along the lines of "the release date for this item has been delayed indefinitely..."

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 06:11 (twenty-one years ago)

it said, "ships in 2 to 3 days". sure....

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 06:12 (twenty-one years ago)

We place our faith in you.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 14:27 (twenty-one years ago)

The next My Bloody Valentine album (or compilation) will be released sometime beetween the next Syd Barret album and the Armagheddon.

francesco, Wednesday, 28 April 2004 15:42 (twenty-one years ago)

That interview linked to a few posts upthread was interesting, but what really caught my attention was:

In Britain there was a big drum-n-bass movement and that was the last thing I got really into. I got really *really* into it at one point...we were programming all this drum-n-bass music...

Anyone have any idea if the drum + bass stuff Shields implys he worked on might have gotten released?

Graeme (Graeme), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 16:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Probably not, but if you want to hear DnB MBV, just buy Third Eye Foundation's "Semtex".
It even came out around the same time Kevin was working on his DnB stuff.

Barry Bruner (Barry Bruner), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 17:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Perhaps I should've changed 'gotten released' to 'seen the light of day in any form.'

Third Eye Foundation, eh? Will give it a listen (although Mogwai comparisons / connections have always made me steer clear in the past).

Graeme (Graeme), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 17:26 (twenty-one years ago)

shields mentioned he was experimenting with DnB in a mid-90s interview that i read. i long since gave up hope of ever hearing this tho'.

zebedee (zebedee), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 17:31 (twenty-one years ago)

There's a bit of a rhythmic drum'n'bass feel to that MBV Arkestra remix of Primal Scream's 'If They Move, Kill 'Em' that came out back in '98. First fruits of Shields' work with the Scream - or, indeed, anyone for a good few years - if I remember rightly. I thought that record was amazing at the time, but I've just dug it out and to be honest it sounds pretty ordinary.

Jason J, Wednesday, 28 April 2004 20:24 (twenty-one years ago)

third eye foundation don't sound anything like mogwai, so don't let that frighten you off.

kyle (akmonday), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 20:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Third Eye Foundation, eh? Will give it a listen

The first track on Semtex is indeed exactly what I imagined/hoped MBV-n-B would sound like.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 20:26 (twenty-one years ago)

is that "sleep"? that song slays me

the surface noise (electricsound), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 23:27 (twenty-one years ago)

CD Japan now lists this as being "cancelled"

Elvis Telecom (Chris Barrus), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 21:38 (twenty-one years ago)

its never coming out. though i got some cdrs and its fab. kevin's obsession with sound quality y'all.

doomie x, Tuesday, 4 May 2004 21:45 (twenty-one years ago)

big surprise

the surface noise (electricsound), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 23:25 (twenty-one years ago)

pathetic fat stoner

the surface noise (electricsound), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 23:26 (twenty-one years ago)

er, perhaps harsh

but god help the guy if this continued on-again off-again bollocks with regards the reissues isn't doing his legacy some significant damage.

the surface noise (electricsound), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 23:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Er? I think the legacy is stronger than ever!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 23:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Ned speaks the truth - being willfully obscure, increasing the rarity of a catalog, etc., when coupled with critical adulation all increase the clamor/glamor surrounding any so-called "genius".

Shakey Mo Collier, Tuesday, 4 May 2004 23:49 (twenty-one years ago)

oh come on, like this whole compilation/no compilation, box set/no box set garbage isn't putting people off? it's certainly pushing me to the point of not caring.

the surface noise (electricsound), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 00:02 (twenty-one years ago)

But how many bands and folks are around these days that know their MBV? Plenty, just look at the Air and Fennesz albums from this year for two of the higher profile examples. I don't care if he lurks quietly in a corner the rest of this year or whatever he prefers to do.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 00:19 (twenty-one years ago)

i do feel like my point is being missed.

the surface noise (electricsound), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 00:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, there's always this..

http://accessdbr.tripod.com/images/QVCfront.jpg

donut bitch (donut), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 00:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes, "QVC" as in the U.S. cable tv shopping network

donut bitch (donut), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 00:47 (twenty-one years ago)

It bothers me a little when people rip on Shields for being lazy or whatever. He enriched my life in a big way by making a couple incredible records -- what right do I have to expect anything more from him?

Mark (MarkR), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 00:53 (twenty-one years ago)

now i know my point is being missed.

generally people never hassled brian wilson for not releasing smile, right? would the situation be different if at various points over the years he promised to release it? was known to be working further on it? and then pull it at the eleventh hour? and then repeat the process?

maybe nobody has a "right" to expect anything of the guy, but he's obviously broken promises to somebody. new release information doesn't turn up on hmv's website by magic.

the surface noise (electricsound), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 01:02 (twenty-one years ago)

I concur with Jim. I think Kevin's being a bit precious about all this. Theyre just songs FFS and I say that as a big MBV fan myself. I already have most of whats on that tracklisting anyway (inc Instrumental #1 and some other snippet of stuff which has no name... no idea what it is) so why would I be jumping up and down about a few songs?

Remember the Stone Roses, people (ok maybe not a great analogy but you get my gist).

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 01:04 (twenty-one years ago)

i think what really burns me up isn't even anything to do with his perceived or actual laziness. it's more to do with doomie bleating on about hearing a cdr of it - indicating (to me) that KS has actually done the work already - so what's the sodding problem?

the surface noise (electricsound), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 01:06 (twenty-one years ago)

The March 23 update that Spencer posted upthread probably speaks volumes: Island had it scheduled for release long before KS received the masters...

Sean Thomas (sgthomas), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 01:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Point taken.

Mark (MarkR), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 01:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh well, I guess I'll just have to go and 'upload' my old twelve inch singles and burn them to CD instead.

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 07:41 (twenty-one years ago)

save yourself the trouble, i'll put my own remasters up on slsk if you like

the surface noise (electricsound), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 07:44 (twenty-one years ago)

jim, i (and i'm sure many others) would be very thankful if you did. what's your slsk alias?

willem (willem), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 07:55 (twenty-one years ago)

wowz. have to bullet Kazaa now.

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 07:57 (twenty-one years ago)

electricsound. i have all of "geek" and "new record by" done and all the other stuff on cd, so any other requests? the only thing i haven't rem'd is the intstrumental 7"

the surface noise (electricsound), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 07:59 (twenty-one years ago)

they're up now!

the surface noise (electricsound), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 08:32 (twenty-one years ago)

MBV on BBC 6 Music's Dream Ticket tonight. I bet it's old hat to most of you, but still.

Oh, thank you.

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 5 May 2004 09:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Caught the last two songs of this last night and thought it sounded a lot like the records. I wasn't expecting that. It was from 1988.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Thursday, 6 May 2004 08:19 (twenty-one years ago)

I caught it on my minidisc, shall sort it through later...

koogs (koogs), Thursday, 6 May 2004 09:56 (twenty-one years ago)

.. and it runs for thirteen minutes?

(someone do a tracklisting, I have to go out)

mark grout (mark grout), Thursday, 6 May 2004 10:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Scrolling text had the last song as 'Colm's Song' but it was 'When You Sleep You're Still in a Dream'. That's the kind of thing obsessives dig. Hooray for scrolling text.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Thursday, 6 May 2004 10:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Fantastic new interview with Kevin:
http://buddyhead.com/music/kevinshields/

(unfortunately, the interviewer neglects to ask for a timeline for the reissues).

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 11 June 2004 00:03 (twenty-one years ago)

I put it to you that the actual TITLE of the page needs some help.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 11 June 2004 00:04 (twenty-one years ago)

mr. bloddy

the surface noise is another unwelcome bonus resulting from a preamp's inab (ele, Friday, 11 June 2004 00:05 (twenty-one years ago)

(That said, yes, excellent interview.)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 11 June 2004 00:14 (twenty-one years ago)

i like the bit about the Lazy records guy..

the surface noise is another unwelcome bonus resulting from a preamp's inab (ele, Friday, 11 June 2004 00:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Especially if it turns out it was one of the Primitives dudes.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 11 June 2004 00:20 (twenty-one years ago)

He started out asking lame questions but the latter two-thirds were great.
They talked about all the reissues, but not in the context of the supposed box set ...

Barry Bruner (Barry Bruner), Friday, 11 June 2004 00:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Pitchfork just had that story about the box sets being live stuff, which I'm not as excited about.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 11 June 2004 18:26 (twenty-one years ago)

oh man - i cant wait for tuesday when these finally come out. i cant believe kevin shields finally put his money and time where his mouth and intentions are. what a boon this will be. now i dont have to be so gentle with my ebay-acquired CDEPs and flexi-disc. its just nice that kevin shields is being productive in a way that ensures future generations will hear more from his fantastic body of work than just Loveless.

peter smith (plsmith), Wednesday, 9 February 2005 18:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Why are people so CRUEL!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 9 February 2005 18:20 (twenty-one years ago)

It is a vicious torment.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 9 February 2005 18:25 (twenty-one years ago)

oh, i just remember him saying last year that "valentines day next year would be a romantic time to release it, maybe itll be out before then, but maybe ill wait until v-day 05". didnt mean to get anyone's hopes up. sorry.

peter smith (plsmith), Wednesday, 9 February 2005 18:29 (twenty-one years ago)

*grumbles back to cave to hibernate until this thing actually comes out*

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 9 February 2005 18:31 (twenty-one years ago)

OK, secret mission time: I'm going to London to break into Kevin's house and steal his bong so that maybe he'll be more productive. Perhaps someone else can then drag him to a gym or something to give him more energy. We've got to get this guy's groove back!

Who's with me?!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 9 February 2005 18:42 (twenty-one years ago)

im in.

peter smith (plsmith), Wednesday, 9 February 2005 18:45 (twenty-one years ago)

OK, I'm thinking we'll definitely need prying instruments (chisels, spatulas etc).

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 9 February 2005 18:49 (twenty-one years ago)

this sounds like the plot of a bad Ben Stiller/Jack Black comedy.

Shakey Mo Collier, Wednesday, 9 February 2005 18:50 (twenty-one years ago)

we can call it "my buddy valentine"

peter smith (plsmith), Wednesday, 9 February 2005 19:00 (twenty-one years ago)

I'd be all for your top secret plan were it not announced on a popular Website. ;-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 9 February 2005 19:11 (twenty-one years ago)

ned, ned, ned. didnt it ever occur to you that announcing our secret plans on a website is the best way to ensure that theyll be dismissed?

peter smith (plsmith), Wednesday, 9 February 2005 19:13 (twenty-one years ago)

unless you mean some other, RELIABLE website. we'd have to abort then.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 9 February 2005 19:16 (twenty-one years ago)

It's EASY to capture him, BTW, you just offer him some pot and ask him a question -- he's a great interviewee because he's a motormouth. Then while he's distracted, you're set. And the pizza can be for the munchies later.

he's actually out and about and relatively friendly, i hear. a friend of mine who has done some work with those directors and affiliated hangers-on (you know, the jonze/coppola and assorted friends, bit) says he has seen (but not heard) cd-r's with material that kevin has been passing around to get some reactions.

Count me in on this. I'll photoshop some propaganda, if need be.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Wednesday, 9 February 2005 20:04 (twenty-one years ago)

repost from another MBV thread, this is important people!

This track, perhaps called "2" was made by Kevin Shields specifically for the La La La Human Steps dance troupe production also called simply 2 (from 1995 - video clips can be found here. I believe Michael Apted also made a film that was played during the performance. It sounds like an extended take of one of the incidental interstitial tracks from To Here Knows When and Loveless. However, I also think it's somehow much more beautiful than any of those. I am desperate to find a high quality recording of this track. Like MBV's "Sugar" before, it's now my holy grail of music! I've contacted the La La La Human Steps but unfortunately, no CD was ever made...

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 9 February 2005 20:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Everyone must d/l that track if they haven't already heard it -- it's fantastic.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Wednesday, 9 February 2005 20:07 (twenty-one years ago)

four months pass...
New info. It's new but again, don't hold your breath. Although it apparently comes from a reliable source who is in contact with mybloodyvalentine.net (fansite)...

"According to a mail I got recently from a very reliable source, there is indeed a box set coming. (Ed: I believe this one) In fact there are 2 box sets coming out, plus a DVD! Sadly they probably won't be released until late 2005 or early 2006. The Anthology will be a Island/Sire release. Contary to popular belief, Kevin's contract to Island is still valid. So apparently the news of the box set being scrapped were false."

Box Set details

(ED: written by the source not me)

If all goes well, the following will be part of the anthology (2 boxes combined + DVD) plus other interesting information:
Box 1:
This is your Bloody Valentine
Geek E.P
The new record by....
Sunny Sundae Smile E.P
Strawberry Wine E.P
Ecstacy E.P
Live 1984-87 (double CD)

This box will most likely be limited to a few thousand only, due to the lack of real interest apart from the hardcore devotee's Live 84-87 will consist of the best performances from the pre-glide guitar era(sic) Through-out MBV's lifetime,Kev always personally made sure each & every show was recorded via soundboard. All tracks are currently being digitally remastered
Box 2:
You made me realise E.P+ out-takes
Feed me with your kiss E.P + out-takes
Is'nt anything "the alternate versions" + out-takes
Glider E.P + out-takes
Tremolo E.P + out-takes
Loveless "the alternate versions" + out-takes
Live 1987-92 (4 CD)

Live 87-92 will be a triple CD full of the best versions as far as Kev is concerned when it comes to the live stuff. Kev personally made sure each show was recorded via soundboard...............so he's got a shit-load of material to sift through. All tracks are currently being digitally remastered
DVD:
All the music videos Combination of3 live shows mixed into one Various TV interviews Homemade camcorder footage

DVD is going to be interesting First it was going to be in the vein of Nirvana's "Live tonight sold out",which combined live footage with homemade camcorder fun, mixed with the videos & interviews. That idea has been scraped because,er,well...it's DVD!!!you can have each under it own menu.

Some other info:

There are 3 Pro-taped live shows in existence. All the rest are dead certs apart from maybe the homemade camcorder stuff (an idea during a late night drinking session)

I'm not gonna go out on a wim & give a release date....possibly late 05 or early 06

As hoped by many fans & critics,the94/95post-Loveless sessions will neverbe released!.......... not while Kev is alive anyway. He never was happy with the out-come!

I'd also like to add that MBV are not back together working in the studio! Yes Kev has been in Berlin, Yes he's been tweaking the Glider E.P out-takes for this anthology release.

My Bloody Valentine belong in the late 80's/ early 90's,Kev knows that.....and he wants them to stay there

(ED: you can stop drooling now)

if you guys steal Kevin's bong, you are going to auction it on eBay, right?

mmfmfrmm, Tuesday, 28 June 2005 18:50 (twenty years ago)

er, that's not new info, that's the same as last year's never-came-to-anything rumour...

kit brash (kit brash), Wednesday, 29 June 2005 00:09 (twenty years ago)

kit is right. it's the indie equivalent of the spider cactus. there should be a snopes page on it.

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Wednesday, 29 June 2005 00:52 (twenty years ago)

xpost, That *is* in fact new info and is very different from last years news. The mybloodyvalentine.net news page has the date mislabeled, but the news is from May 2005.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 29 June 2005 23:22 (twenty years ago)

different in what way? i recall reading that exact wording above last year.

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Wednesday, 29 June 2005 23:40 (twenty years ago)

Yep. I'm afraid I read all that before as well.

Chewshabadoo (Chewshabadoo), Thursday, 30 June 2005 09:17 (twenty years ago)

In fact, check the very first post on this thread! (Contents of the boxes, anyway)

mark grout (mark grout), Thursday, 30 June 2005 09:52 (twenty years ago)

i have some MBV boot from LA and in the gap before they play "Soon" there is some weirdo making farmyard animal noises.

THAT'S entertainment.

nicholas de jong (nicholas de jong), Thursday, 30 June 2005 11:01 (twenty years ago)

you'd imagine that putting together a box of that size would take quite a while. I'd like to think this means they're taking their time so it's done right! I WANT TO BELIEVE!

What can I say, I was overwhelmed with passion.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 30 June 2005 12:05 (twenty years ago)

it's brought me countless seconds of amusement of the years.

nicholas de jong (nicholas de jong), Thursday, 30 June 2005 12:11 (twenty years ago)

Ned's animal passion has brought you amusement?

The info is of course similar (it's talking about the same release!), but there are a bunch of new details. This was posted on or about May 10th of this year on the same site where the original information was posted from last year.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 30 June 2005 17:23 (twenty years ago)

I saw this on snopes.com

Check out the forum at mybloodyvalentine.net.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 1 July 2005 02:10 (twenty years ago)

It's possible that the forum is dated incorrectly and I'm happy to be wrong, but frankly I'm desperate.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 1 July 2005 02:16 (twenty years ago)

spencer i'd love this to be true as much as anyone but i strongly suspect "Source: a very reliable source" is some fuckwit having a lend of us all.

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Friday, 1 July 2005 02:25 (twenty years ago)

Hey, I object to that description. Er, wait. *flees*

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 1 July 2005 02:30 (twenty years ago)

seriously, that wording you quoted is exactly the one that was up last year

kit brash (kit brash), Friday, 1 July 2005 03:02 (twenty years ago)

one month passes...

how come the lady in the band isn't rated more? for her gorgeosness and dancing in the SOON vid if nothing else?

piscesboy, Tuesday, 30 August 2005 16:47 (twenty years ago)

colm rode by me on his bike last week. I guess I could have stopped him and demanded to know where this box set is at, as if he knows or cares...

kyle (akmonday), Tuesday, 30 August 2005 16:54 (twenty years ago)

x-post "the lady"

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 30 August 2005 16:55 (twenty years ago)

"Okay Bilinda, Deborah, who wants to be the lady today?"

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 30 August 2005 16:56 (twenty years ago)

Kyle, you really should have!

Also, Colm and Kevin have played together on the new record by Le Volume Courbe (haven't heard it yet).

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 30 August 2005 17:21 (twenty years ago)

x-post "the lady"

The gorgeos lady, Ned. You know, that one.

Venga (Venga), Tuesday, 30 August 2005 17:44 (twenty years ago)

le volume courbe actually finished an album? i hope a proper label puts it out this time

jimmy glass (electricsound), Tuesday, 30 August 2005 22:20 (twenty years ago)

From mybloodyvalentine.net:

"From this morning's Channel 4 Ceefax music pages:

"My Bloody Valentine guitarist Kevin Shields and drummer Colm O'Ciosoig play together for the first time since 1991's Loveless album on the debut LP by Le Volume Courbe, aka French singer Charlotte Marioneau. Her eponymous album, out on September 26, also features Hope Sandoval."

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 30 August 2005 22:31 (twenty years ago)

is this out?

kyle (akmonday), Tuesday, 30 August 2005 22:40 (twenty years ago)

there was all this nonsense about Hope & Kevin playing on the LVC Poptones single but my understanding was that it was untrue?

jimmy glass (electricsound), Tuesday, 30 August 2005 23:30 (twenty years ago)

out on September 26

kit brash (kit brash), Tuesday, 30 August 2005 23:32 (twenty years ago)

do you expect me to read every word?

kyle (akmonday), Wednesday, 31 August 2005 02:27 (twenty years ago)

i was sorta hoping you were asking about the box set

jimmy glass (electricsound), Wednesday, 31 August 2005 02:29 (twenty years ago)

seven months pass...
did we dream this?

piscesboy, Wednesday, 5 April 2006 17:34 (nineteen years ago)

When it comes to MBV, you're dreaming until you're holding it in your hand... maybe when you wake, you're still in a dream...

Edward III (edward iii), Wednesday, 5 April 2006 17:59 (nineteen years ago)

Nah, I got my copy. It's great. Kevin came to my house and dropped it off the other day.

wmlynch (wlynch), Wednesday, 5 April 2006 18:17 (nineteen years ago)

you're safe in your sleep (from MBV and their empty promises)

hank (hank s), Wednesday, 5 April 2006 18:23 (nineteen years ago)

one year passes...

i just saw colm at the grocery store again. i was going to ask him about it but didn't have the nerve. he was buying some wine.

akm, Friday, 8 June 2007 03:31 (eighteen years ago)

Haha I read that as "I was going to ask him out but I didnt have the nerve" ! =)

Trayce, Friday, 8 June 2007 03:46 (eighteen years ago)

he has hope sandoval at home, so I don't think he'd want me anyway

akm, Friday, 8 June 2007 03:58 (eighteen years ago)

DRINK some (strawberry?) wine (a bit) next time you hit the grocery, then just appear next to him and casually demand. Works for me.

Sum Fitch, Friday, 8 June 2007 05:50 (eighteen years ago)

hope sandoval, geez she gets around, I thought she was dating William Reid.

Trayce, Friday, 8 June 2007 08:43 (eighteen years ago)

maybe 8 years ago or more

electricsound, Friday, 8 June 2007 09:29 (eighteen years ago)

13 years ago, more like.

baaderonixx, Friday, 8 June 2007 09:35 (eighteen years ago)

"or more"

electricsound, Friday, 8 June 2007 09:41 (eighteen years ago)

What happened to her anyway? I remember seeing Mazzy Star around 2000, they only played new songs, but nothing ever came out.

baaderonixx, Friday, 8 June 2007 09:45 (eighteen years ago)

Please stop teasing me with this thread!! Gah!!

leavethecapital, Friday, 8 June 2007 10:42 (eighteen years ago)

There was mention of the record label back catalogue person working on MBV material in Rercord Collector last/this month (the one with The WHO on the cover). It was in an article about the reissue market. No details, but sounded pretty legit.

PJ Miller, Friday, 8 June 2007 12:26 (eighteen years ago)

MBV box set like MBV nother album. yeah, in my dreams.

Masonic Boom, Friday, 8 June 2007 12:48 (eighteen years ago)

Edward III, Friday, 8 June 2007 13:30 (eighteen years ago)

What happened to her anyway? I remember seeing Mazzy Star around 2000, they only played new songs, but nothing ever came out.

Her solo album came out the following year and since then nothing except the occasional guest vocals. Last I heard, she sings on one track on the new Massive Attack album.

Elvis Telecom, Friday, 8 June 2007 14:42 (eighteen years ago)

i get the feeling she's in semi-retirement, it's not like she needs to work with fade into you still being used in every movie soundtrack every; there might be a bit of a perfectionist streak as well. I did see her after the solo album came out (live) and it was an excellent show but they spent so much time getting the sound set up before they played that the wait was ridiculous (something like an hour and a half).
