Jim Reckling (Jim Reckling), Saturday, 28 February 2004 02:05 (twenty-one years ago)

We did this recently, right? Anywaysle: Matos, Donut Bitch, Blount.

Nate in ST.P (natedetritus), Saturday, 28 February 2004 02:20 (twenty-one years ago)

if someone says me, then him / her.

cozen (Cozen), Saturday, 28 February 2004 02:21 (twenty-one years ago)

G to the Motherfucking GYGAX.

ddb, Saturday, 28 February 2004 02:24 (twenty-one years ago)

To quote Depeche:

So entwined now that we can't shake free
I am you and you are me

Sung by Dan to myself and me back to him, as needed.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 28 February 2004 02:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Well thank you. That caused voluminous hilarity in my home in the dead of night here.

t\'\'t (t\'\'t), Saturday, 28 February 2004 02:34 (twenty-one years ago)

"And somewhere in the Baltics, a man laughs. COINCEDENCE?"

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 28 February 2004 02:35 (twenty-one years ago)

NON.

t\'\'t (t\'\'t), Saturday, 28 February 2004 02:36 (twenty-one years ago)

I have yet to find my ILX equal. Someone hold me.. now.

maypang (maypang), Saturday, 28 February 2004 02:37 (twenty-one years ago)

but maypang, we have a list to finish!

scott seward (scott seward), Saturday, 28 February 2004 02:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Haha. Actually you were one person that did come to mind.

maypang (maypang), Saturday, 28 February 2004 02:39 (twenty-one years ago)

i have a lot in common with lots of people here. that's why i'm still here.

scott seward (scott seward), Saturday, 28 February 2004 02:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Spencer, Nick S., Ned, Matt C., Mr. Blount, and esoj. More or less in that order.

Francis Watlington (Francis Watlington), Saturday, 28 February 2004 02:40 (twenty-one years ago)

If Ned would ditch the Smashing Pumpkins, then him.

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 28 February 2004 02:42 (twenty-one years ago)

i hear you, ailsa.

scott seward (scott seward), Saturday, 28 February 2004 02:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Ned and Stupid, I think

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Saturday, 28 February 2004 02:58 (twenty-one years ago)

It used to be Josh, *sigh*.

Jordan (Jordan), Saturday, 28 February 2004 02:59 (twenty-one years ago)

I think Ned. Lots of overlap with Kate, though.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Saturday, 28 February 2004 03:00 (twenty-one years ago)

um tim finney, maybe?

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Saturday, 28 February 2004 03:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Tom Ewing, Tim Finney, Jess Harvell, Andy Kellman

but I probably overlap with most people on here
especially ones whose tastes I'm biting
(Gareth, Prima Fassy, Stelfox, Amateurist, Rockist Scientist, etc)
and people I've hung out with (Matos, Geeta, Battaglia, JodyBethRosen, Daddino, Chuck & all the NYers)

Paul (scifisoul), Saturday, 28 February 2004 03:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Strongo we are like Matt Damon and Greg Kinear.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Saturday, 28 February 2004 03:04 (twenty-one years ago)

most apt yet horrifying metaphor ever

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Saturday, 28 February 2004 03:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Sadly I am Greg Kinnear I think!

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Saturday, 28 February 2004 03:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Actually now I'm not sure.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Saturday, 28 February 2004 03:08 (twenty-one years ago)

well if we're talking talk soup hosts, then i am clearly john henson

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Saturday, 28 February 2004 03:09 (twenty-one years ago)

or the black woman

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Saturday, 28 February 2004 03:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Go grip something

Andy K (Andy K), Saturday, 28 February 2004 03:10 (twenty-one years ago)

We were talking Talk Soup hosts?

I think I look a bit like the guy who hosted it a couple of years back. Or still hosts it? My dad used to watch it on cable, but all I remember is that it had the second worst jokes of any infotainment show ever.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Saturday, 28 February 2004 03:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Not Hal Sparks

Andy K (Andy K), Saturday, 28 February 2004 03:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Talk Soup: pretty good show, but the fact that it exists kind of makes me loose faith in humanity. ILM similar? Hope not. Probably most similar taste-wise to jl (milton) and Nom de Plume, but also somtimes to Geir (even though I could give a fuck about Genesis), which distresses me.

dleone (dleone), Saturday, 28 February 2004 03:14 (twenty-one years ago)

wait, didnt greg kinnear host talk soup? did i hallucinate that?

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Saturday, 28 February 2004 03:14 (twenty-one years ago)

he did, he did. i believe he was the first.

dean! (deangulberry), Saturday, 28 February 2004 03:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Actually judging from the 2000-present albums thread it would have to be strongo, which makes me...? Jeff Daniels?

Andy K (Andy K), Saturday, 28 February 2004 03:17 (twenty-one years ago)

(Actually it might make me the Tracks person.)

Andy K (Andy K), Saturday, 28 February 2004 03:19 (twenty-one years ago)

also, from what little attention i pay, electric sound of jim (surface noise) seems to have the same taste as me

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 28 February 2004 03:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Andy, you used to edit Spin? That is so kewl!

David R. (popshots75`), Saturday, 28 February 2004 03:22 (twenty-one years ago)

for me a weird hybrid of Matos, Blount, Seward, JBR, teeny, Francis W., and our poor dear prince in exile H in Addis.

Begs2Differ (Begs2Differ), Saturday, 28 February 2004 03:23 (twenty-one years ago)

or the black woman

which would mean that you had a cameo appearance on "Slow Jamz" OWN3D

Begs2Differ (Begs2Differ), Saturday, 28 February 2004 03:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh, that's right, I totally forgot about Nitsuh! Please do come back, sir! And our salsa king Rockist. :)

Francis Watlington (Francis Watlington), Saturday, 28 February 2004 03:28 (twenty-one years ago)

i am totally gygax! + ianjonwilliamsjohnson + whoever is gayest for brian wilson

dean! (deangulberry), Saturday, 28 February 2004 03:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Patrin, Strongo, Finney, Ben Williams though he doesn't post all that much, Andy K ditto, Felicity ditto, cinniblount

Matos W.K. (M Matos), Saturday, 28 February 2004 03:31 (twenty-one years ago)

ack! not Andy K ditto, Andy B ditto

Matos W.K. (M Matos), Saturday, 28 February 2004 03:32 (twenty-one years ago)

haha I TOTALLY forgot Tracer_Hand!

he belongs in my most alikes

Paul (scifisoul), Saturday, 28 February 2004 03:33 (twenty-one years ago)

yes! Tracer! him too. and probably a dozen other people I'm forgetting.

Matos W.K. (M Matos), Saturday, 28 February 2004 03:42 (twenty-one years ago)

ESOJ, Dom, Ed O, Alex in t'North and The Lex, I'd reckon.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Saturday, 28 February 2004 03:44 (twenty-one years ago)

DJ Martian....Eisbar.....and a few others, I reckon.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 28 February 2004 03:48 (twenty-one years ago)

If Ned wasn't so over the moon about the Smashing Pumpkins, he'd make the list as well.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 28 February 2004 03:48 (twenty-one years ago)

DEAN!//JONWILLIAMS//GYGAX//ROGER ADULTERY//SCOTT SEWARD//NED RAGGGGGGGTETTTT

Ian Johnson (orion), Saturday, 28 February 2004 03:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh, and quite possibly Kilian too.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Saturday, 28 February 2004 03:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Gaz, jess, ambrose, toby, tim finney, s1ocki...

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Saturday, 28 February 2004 03:52 (twenty-one years ago)

I really want to cite Anthony Miccio....but then there's his damn, inxplicable love for Good Bizkit and Limp Charlotte. It boggles the mind.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 28 February 2004 03:53 (twenty-one years ago)

I also seem to connect with Rogeradultery and Alex in Nyc, except I hate to admit I am not a big Killing Joke fan.

Jim Reckling (Jim Reckling), Saturday, 28 February 2004 03:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Hstencil, just because he likes Jailbreak so much.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Saturday, 28 February 2004 03:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Arthur and Ally

tokyo rosemary (rosemary), Saturday, 28 February 2004 04:02 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm too much of a dilettant to map onto any one poster, I think.

I'd say Scott Seward for sure. I can tell he's a similar vinyl head. Especially after I read his thing about Ed Chalpin. He's probably the only person on ILX I could have a conversation about AUM and Gun with. He loses with his love of that 4AD new age Brit nonsense though. Also, George Smith. ANd Duane, can't forget Duane; though sadly he doesn't seem to post too much anymore. I'd love to party with Scott, George, and Duane and, I dunno, spin J.D. Blackfoot platters or something.

Also Julio and Sundar for jazz/improv type stuff. And Amateurist and Martin Skidmore for blues/soul/r&b type stuff.

Broheems (diamond), Saturday, 28 February 2004 04:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Ally has love for the Misfits and Killing Joke, and Jody adores Devo. So them too.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 28 February 2004 04:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh, and JBR too! Can't forget her. I think she goes in the "vinyl head" category. I think of her more for 60s rock and psych and session cat effluvia and than the hard'n'hoary stuff of the Seward/George/Duane group. But I think she likes that too. Kind of an uber-head, really.

Broheems (diamond), Saturday, 28 February 2004 04:06 (twenty-one years ago)

@d@m, jess, stirmonster, stelfox, slocki, matos, andy k, job, the usual suspects.

recent surprise: spencer!

mullygrubber (gaz), Saturday, 28 February 2004 04:32 (twenty-one years ago)

alex in sf, finney too, natch.

mullygrubber (gaz), Saturday, 28 February 2004 04:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Funny thing: it really hasn't dawned on me until now that my taste overlaps very closely with that of Alex, but it's that Killing Joke jones that kinda obscures all else. Although, he has more of a leaning towards harder edged stuff, while I'm a pussy.

As for Anthony, at least the man acknowledges what the best rock record ever is (LET IT BE, duh), if nothing else! J/K!

Francis Watlington (Francis Watlington), Saturday, 28 February 2004 04:53 (twenty-one years ago)

not sure whether i share musical tastes with these folks, but they are the ones that have tipped me to sounds i've not heard before:.
andy kellman, ned raggett, donut bitch, the real paul cox, & strongo hulkington. i also share alex in nyc's love of all things killing joke.

william (william), Saturday, 28 February 2004 05:18 (twenty-one years ago)

oh yes i forgot alex in sf. he has amazing tastes

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Saturday, 28 February 2004 05:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Also forgot - Amateurist, for a lot of the blues and soul stuff.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Saturday, 28 February 2004 05:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Andy K for Disco
Matos for Prince & Sly
Jess for Arthur Russell
Ned Raggett for Shoegazing

But the question remains: Who here is a huge Tricky fan?

Jedmond (Jedmond), Saturday, 28 February 2004 05:37 (twenty-one years ago)

"If Ned would ditch the Smashing Pumpkins, then him."

Same with me, but he would also have to ditch Placebo.

daavid (daavid), Saturday, 28 February 2004 05:55 (twenty-one years ago)

fuck i forgot keith mcd, missing in action.

mullygrubber (gaz), Saturday, 28 February 2004 05:59 (twenty-one years ago)

alex in nyc. though i like jay-z, and mr. alex does not (a shame for him). and cop shoot cop has never done much for me (a shame for me).

ned -- what differences b/w him and myself seem to be more in degree and less in kind (e.g., though i like depeche mode and smashing pumpkins i don't like them as much as ned. dunno exactly what the equivalents wr2 me would be, though -- prob. echo & the bunnymen and zappa?)

ally -- for all of her kraftwerk, gary numan, miss kittin, and synth love!

dee -- she makes it safe for me to admit my love of eighties cheese-wave.

kate the saint -- for her bauhaus and drone-rock luv, and for hating the grateful dead even more than me!

Eisbär (llamasfur), Saturday, 28 February 2004 06:02 (twenty-one years ago)

i also liked omar's tastes -- except for his utterly inexplicable hate for zappa and beefheart. why doesn't he come back?

Eisbär (llamasfur), Saturday, 28 February 2004 06:04 (twenty-one years ago)

(and geir more so than i might want to admit. though not his, um, rationale for what he likes. and not the shit-britpop, or his beatles-über-alles thing.)

Eisbär (llamasfur), Saturday, 28 February 2004 06:05 (twenty-one years ago)

o yeah omar. and how did i forget nik p: best mix tape maker, and db and...shit, lets jsut say a third of the posters here.

and jed!

mullygrubber (gaz), Saturday, 28 February 2004 06:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Why did this turn into another chance to insult somebody else's taste? This site sometimes deserves the title "I Love Music, and You Love Crap". There are some really nice people on this board and ILE, but they are drowned out by the bullshit.
I would cite the person I share the most music choices with, but I am ashamed to be associated with them.

Speedy (Speedy Gonzalas), Saturday, 28 February 2004 06:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Dan Perry, Ned Raggett, Donut Bitch and Kate, to various degrees. Eisbar, I guess, also based on his post in this thread, but I never noticed before.

anode (anode), Saturday, 28 February 2004 06:48 (twenty-one years ago)

"I Love Music, and You Love Crap".

dude, that could be my personal motto!

Eisbär (llamasfur), Saturday, 28 February 2004 07:03 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm pissed about the "Are You A Punk" thread. Sorry, I read this with an angry eye.

Speedy (Speedy Gonzalas), Saturday, 28 February 2004 07:04 (twenty-one years ago)

$$

Rockist Scientist (rockistscientist), Saturday, 28 February 2004 07:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Props to: Milton. Julio re improv, jazz, modern classical, electronic music, and Journey. Broheems, who comes closest to liking of both improv/jazz/avant and classic rock/AOR. Melissa re Radiohead, IDM, modern classical, and jazz. Nickalicious on a lot of classic rock, funk, and fusion stuff as well as Toxicity. Nom de Plume. Jordan likes a lot of good jazz and fusion/funk stuff.

sundar subramanian (sundar), Saturday, 28 February 2004 08:25 (twenty-one years ago)

I'd say Nick Southall, Nitsuh, Sean Tangmonkey, and Kenan.

jaymc (jaymc), Saturday, 28 February 2004 08:27 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm baffled that three people have cited me; I didn't think I had an identifiable taste particularly.

Sick Nouthall (Nick Southall), Saturday, 28 February 2004 08:42 (twenty-one years ago)

I feel like I have these taste clusters, and maybe one will overlap with someone else, but the rest is really different. I feel less confident in any attempt to answer this now than I did before.

Rockist Scientist (rockistscientist), Saturday, 28 February 2004 08:46 (twenty-one years ago)

So does anyone here use RYM http://rateyourmusic.com/ ?

The forums are a waste of time, but they have a database that allows you to record the stuff you own (yeah, I know, for most of you that would require a three-year full-time commitment, and AFAIK you can't import the data from another application, which is a PITA, but you could enter, y'know, a representative sample) and then you can use their "Find other users with similar taste" function.

The algorithm works on comparing what you both own and what ratings you have both assigned. It's not perfect (I have no idea why it tells me that top of my compatibility list is someone who declares their admiration for Led Zeppelin, Rush, and the Smashing Pumpkins) but it's kind of fun.

I'm sure there'd be scope for doing some sort of fun graphical representations of this too, but I haven't thought hard about it.

Snnap Dragon (snnap dragon), Saturday, 28 February 2004 09:39 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm on RYM well. Not telling my username though. I'm an attractive squid.

latebloomer (latebloomer), Saturday, 28 February 2004 09:41 (twenty-one years ago)

summerslastsound.

j4n (Wintermute), Saturday, 28 February 2004 10:34 (twenty-one years ago)

''ANd Duane, can't forget Duane; though sadly he doesn't seem to post too much anymore.''

yeah I wonder why. the listening thread on ile (and ILM) is emptier without his contributions.

I'd like to list but I'll always forget someone.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Saturday, 28 February 2004 10:42 (twenty-one years ago)

esoj, gygax! (maybe sometimes), arthur, tim hopkins, that dude who goes on about softpop and writes for that internet zine (matthew), pash and dada when he goes on about kraut rock, 70s folk, obscure prog, geir (sometimes), and of course calum for this loveo of the libertines... actually these are the only people that respond to my threads, i would say the village voice people when they discuss secretly canadian stuff but they kind of put me off secretly canadian, ian johnsen and chris... these are the only people to respond to my threads.

(i'm listening to the FAUST V. DALEK new album and i don't think i like it...)

jimmy the doomed saint, Saturday, 28 February 2004 11:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Siegbran, Stevem, Gareth sort of, Omar and Stevo too a fair bit of the time. Nik and Barima also. Vahid.

Ronan (Ronan), Saturday, 28 February 2004 12:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Julio Desouza, Ian Christe, Siegbran.

Phil Freeman (Phil Freeman), Saturday, 28 February 2004 12:23 (twenty-one years ago)

julio, strongo, tim, roger adultery, prima fassy.

OCP (OCP), Saturday, 28 February 2004 12:37 (twenty-one years ago)

andy k and toby, yeah, probably at the moment.

jess, matos, & tim f to some extent bt not others. though thr are probly large portions of stuff they love tht they never talk / write about, so - .

cozen (Cozen), Saturday, 28 February 2004 12:37 (twenty-one years ago)

After five minutes of long and hard thinking: noone. Whether that is a good/bad thing, I haven't decided yet.

nathalie (nathalie), Saturday, 28 February 2004 12:48 (twenty-one years ago)

julio i don't post here any more because i'm on a diet. hey broheems i listen to willie nelson & duke ellington way the hell more than i ever listen to any of that 70s rock shit, i want you to know that.
i think jody beth rosen & scott seward have similar tastes to me from what i can make out.

duane, Saturday, 28 February 2004 12:53 (twenty-one years ago)

AH FUCK IT...I LOVE ALL O' Y'ALL, BITCHES!

Neva diss someone else's taste, foos.

Francis Watlington (Francis Watlington), Saturday, 28 February 2004 14:08 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm baffled that three people have cited me; I didn't think I had an identifiable taste particularly.
-- Sick Nouthall (auspiciousfis...), February 28th, 2004.

If anything, it's instantly recognizable (since it's so close to my own, ha!, except for the Talk Talk bit, who I'm still trying to fall head over heels with).

Francis Watlington (Francis Watlington), Saturday, 28 February 2004 14:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Odd, very odd!

Sick Nouthall (Nick Southall), Saturday, 28 February 2004 14:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Nick H
Edward O
William
Dom
Barima
Tim Finney

The Lex (The Lex), Saturday, 28 February 2004 14:31 (twenty-one years ago)

I was mentioned once. By my editor. I think this means I like too much crap.

Nate in ST.P (natedetritus), Saturday, 28 February 2004 15:03 (twenty-one years ago)

I definitely like too much crap, so I won't embarass anyone by saying my taste is similar to their own.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Saturday, 28 February 2004 15:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Where's yr pride, soldiers?!!

Francis Watlington (Francis Watlington), Saturday, 28 February 2004 15:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Funnily enough, now I think about it - and from the little I know - EDR is probably closest to my taste.

Well, we both hate N. anyway.

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Saturday, 28 February 2004 17:08 (twenty-one years ago)

hmmm, dunno maybe Anthony Miccio coz he likes the good rock, Sundar does too. Maybe also Keith and ESOJ when I let my twee side show. Julio knows his pop. I like some of the bands Alex in NYC likes. Everyone crosses over with Ned at some point. Dave Q likes Journey. Joan for the Spanish stuff. But, I hardly post on ILM, so *shrug*

jel -- (jel), Saturday, 28 February 2004 17:40 (twenty-one years ago)

I relate most to Ned on the points that everyone else seems to hold against him here: Pumpkins, Placebo, Rush

sundar subramanian (sundar), Saturday, 28 February 2004 17:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Chuck by a mile, but Alex in NYC, Nicole, Ally, Ned, Jel, Sundar, Carey, JBR and oodles I'm probably forgetting get honorary mentions. I WANT to like everything Seward and Geeta do but I haven't heard most of it.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Saturday, 28 February 2004 17:58 (twenty-one years ago)

oh, Jeanne should be right after Chuck and before all the other honorary mentions. Brody love is all.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Saturday, 28 February 2004 17:59 (twenty-one years ago)

If I were some sort of ILM superspecies, I'd be a genetically-spliced Scott Pl. and Dom Leone...

Naive Teen Idol (Naive Teen Idol), Saturday, 28 February 2004 19:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Ned -- even with the Smashing Pumpkins luv
Julio for the improv
Colin for the electronic/techno

Barry Bruner (Barry Bruner), Saturday, 28 February 2004 19:43 (twenty-one years ago)

@d@ml, just because he likes Jailbreak so much.

hstencil, Saturday, 28 February 2004 19:54 (twenty-one years ago)

jack cole (jackcole), Sunday, 29 February 2004 00:24 (twenty-one years ago)

I want badly for someone to say Me :(
even if it's not true

Sonny A. (Keiko), Sunday, 29 February 2004 01:05 (twenty-one years ago)

it's really not a matter of similar tastes than respected opinions, even if I occasionally violently disagree with: sundar, dleone, julio, nom de plume, dadaismus-grumpypants, paul in santa cruz, but even those people are mainly those I usually end up on the same threads with, I'd let most any of the regular posters man the car stereo on a 6-hour drive through the desert anytime

hey sundar, I love ABBA

(Jon L), Sunday, 29 February 2004 02:28 (twenty-one years ago)

I love youze all.

I dont even know what most of you lot listen to :/ So I cant say, though from the extremely small amount I do know, I'd possibly say Ned, Dan, and Jim. Anyone else who's a 90's indie whore can be added to that list I guess.

Also anyone into deep house or (psy)trance tho Ive no idea who that would be in these parts and I dont know a whole lot myself.

Yay I make sense none.

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 29 February 2004 03:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Andy K. and Ned I probably have the most in common with.

jim wentworth (wench), Sunday, 29 February 2004 05:48 (twenty-one years ago)

If Cover Connections are any indication, I probably share a lot in common with Alex in NYC. He seems to be a bit more rockist than me though as I tend to listen to a lot of candy-ass lightweight fluffstuff from the 60s and 70s which I just can't see him listening to at all.

maypang (maypang), Sunday, 29 February 2004 06:00 (twenty-one years ago)

hey sundar, I love ABBA

shrug Meh, who doesn't these days? You like the Glass Orchestra, John Oswald, Maryanne Amacher, Aphex Twin, 70s keyboards, and Thinking Plague enough to more than make up for it. Actually I do like ABBA as a social phenomenon. I really like it when women sing and dance along to "Dancing Queen". The music just doesn't do much for me personally. It's not like you worship the B-52's or Echo and the Bunnymen. (Is it?)

When did Julio become a pop fan? Did I miss something?

sundar subramanian (sundar), Sunday, 29 February 2004 07:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Nick Southall, Ned, and then (shock and horror) Geir.

anthony kyle monday (akmonday), Sunday, 29 February 2004 07:41 (twenty-one years ago)

i have the most in commong with my trousers. the only kind of music i like involves flatulence through a vocoder and the sound of flowers blooming. oh yeah and kraftwerk.

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Sunday, 29 February 2004 07:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh and actually probably Chris B. above them.

anthony kyle monday (akmonday), Sunday, 29 February 2004 07:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Well me and Julio always seem to go to the same gigs... which must mean something and which reminds me that I missed that gig on Friday with Konk Pack/ Keith Rowe etc which I imagine Julio was at.

Dadaismus (Dada), Sunday, 29 February 2004 09:53 (twenty-one years ago)

no I missed it but udu wudu posted somewhere else that he was at that.

I have been going to the klinker and that improv thingy that alan wilkinson runs at stoke newington.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Sunday, 29 February 2004 11:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Haven't been to many gigs in a while, I'm missing yr bulletins on ILM what gigs are coming up Julio!

Dadaismus (Dada), Sunday, 29 February 2004 11:11 (twenty-one years ago)

''When did Julio become a pop fan? Did I miss something?''

haven't actually bought anything but do watch some videos in the morning.

x-post: haha thanks, have been damn busy, I think I'm going to the klinker next when gail brand is playing.

(but yeah there's a couple of things I can think of right now improv wise but can't remember dates. will prob post abt it somewhere, maybe on the 'what gigs are you looking foward to?' thread that someone started recently).

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Sunday, 29 February 2004 11:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Gonna go on record and say Andy K's GREAT fuckin' taste, even if it's rarely parallel to mine.

Francis Watlington (Francis Watlington), Sunday, 29 February 2004 15:14 (twenty-one years ago)

don, Saturday, 19 February 2005 01:27 (twenty years ago)

I find this thread kind of weird to answer maybe coz i haven't been here awfully long and it's guess-work at best from what i've gathered but i'd say i identify music taste with folks like ...roger adultry, sundar, ian johnston, peter smith, bit of ned and alex in nyc, alex in SF, eisbar, myonga. Or maybe i liked the cut of their jib on a particular thread - same thing?! Sort of the classic rock, psyche + some jazz, modern classical vein. But, you know, everyone's AOK here IMO. Oh and a healthy slab of music mole and electric sound of jim for the Aussie brotherhood factor!

PiersT, Saturday, 19 February 2005 02:07 (twenty years ago)

i'm probably closest to rockaction right now, but after a couple more years of refinement (AKA blowing all my savings), I'll probably end up as a healthy mix between nick sylvester and d. leone (especially if i keep mining their year-end lists), with a little bit of Schreiber thrown in to explain my love of arcade fire.

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Saturday, 12 March 2005 18:24 (twenty years ago)

I think Ned

?!?!? The amount of, dare I say, unmelodic drone in my collection would swiftly disabuse you of that notion.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 12 March 2005 18:26 (twenty years ago)

Well, that's the case with most ILX'ers, I think. Other than people such as Alex in NYC, who are way to "rock" for me.

Of course, I forgot about the Pinefox, although he doesn't seem to like the more recent stuff I like.

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Saturday, 12 March 2005 18:28 (twenty years ago)

Well I tend to favor jazz (especially late 50s-mid 60s), 70s afro-pop/afro-beat, Stax and other non-Motown soul, old fingerpicked folk stuff (John Fahey, Elizabeth Cotten, Anthology of American Folk, etc.), Neil Young, Zeppelin, the top 5% or so of post-rock, hip-hop from late 80s to present, a little IDM here and there, and almost nothing (other than hip-hop) from the 1980s except for Police and Talking Heads. Where does that put me?

Hurting (Hurting), Friday, 28 October 2005 03:41 (nineteen years ago)

if you have an overwhelming love for the constantines, spoon and electric light orchestra in that particular order, then you are probably like me.

I am still stimulated, in ways, by some people whose taste partially overlaps with mine, but is also often different: Steady Mike, Jerry the Nipper, Hopkins, Dr C. But that is partly to say that my friends (still) interest me.

Actually, here is a good direct answer: Mooro! (Dylan, Stones, country, folk, Bowie...)

I don't think you like anything I don't like Mike, actually. If I were 20 years older, I would be you, I'm sure. Brittle Lemon and Alex in Doncaster are my ILM music-taste doubles, I think, along with Messrs Passantino and Swygart, naturally, and The Lex and Koen, and to some extent Tim Finney as we have a very similar lineage of taste that has gone off in two vastly different directions there's nonetheless a lot of overlap. And yes, Marcello, though we do disagree on lots of stuff.

when ethan bothers to listen to a rock album its usually one I really like, but there's ton I like that he doesn't. There's usually at least four good songs on any album Kogan raves about, which makes sense cuz he only listens to four tracks off of it, but there's tons of stuff I like that he doesn't.

Happy birthday, nathalie!

Having been named and shamed* by mike t-diva and edward o, I feel I must reciprocate [though I think I overlap only partially with both]. Also Tom Ewing, hobart paving and WBS, plus my fellow countryman (jg). Plus probably those mentioned by both mike and edward, but I'm too n00b to have noticed.

*not the reason for recent change of nom de plume (again)

that's probably before the lex discovered dance music and learned that guitars were for smelly boys and that late-period albums by ridiculous caterwauling nutjobs were good, not bad like you thought.

Pinefox is the obvious answer here.

Geir Hongro, Sunday, 13 April 2008 19:57 (seventeen years ago)

And Henrik from Acclaimed Music. He sometimes posts here, and still scores highly on my RYM similarities engine.

Geir Hongro, Sunday, 13 April 2008 19:57 (seventeen years ago)

heh i just noticed mike h is one of my closest last.fm neighbours. so... him.

Roz, Monday, 14 April 2008 14:52 (seventeen years ago)

Zeno, Monday, 14 April 2008 17:35 (seventeen years ago)

Scott Seward for me too. I've often thought about writing him some fan mail 'cause his mixes like 'sweet smoke for hotheads,' etc. really helped me through some tough times. I went to a record fair in Chicago yesterday and I had a brief thought that he woulda loved hunting for good, cheap selections with me.

BlackIronPrison, Monday, 14 April 2008 18:16 (seventeen years ago)

rizzx was a neighbour for a fair while.

wilter, Tuesday, 15 April 2008 03:05 (seventeen years ago)

Bimble. Any friend of The Suburbs and Steve Harley is a friend of mine. I've been loving my old cassette of Let's Active's "Big Plans For Everybody" in my car lately, was going to post about it, did a search and he's there too.

Dan Peterson, Tuesday, 15 April 2008 14:19 (seventeen years ago)

I don't think my tastes line up exactly with anyone here, but I think I've gotten pretty good at recognizing what things that folks like that I don't. Like, I generally am willing to give anything Scott Seward recommends a try, but he likes stuff further out on the biker boogie axis of hard rock than I do. Similarly, Chuck Eddy likes a bunch of '90s stuff that I just don't understand the affection for, and hates a lot of '90s stuff I like. Dan Perry's almost always dead-on when it comes to the punkier side of rock or dance, but I don't always agree with him when it comes to radio pop. The Lex and I differ when it comes to melismatics and weepy arrangements, but aside from that, he overlaps pretty well.

I eat cannibals, Tuesday, 15 April 2008 18:24 (seventeen years ago)

The only ILXor that's in my Last.fm neighbors is markp.

jaymc, Tuesday, 15 April 2008 18:30 (seventeen years ago)

i think i have the exact opposite taste from chicago kevin

jaxon, Tuesday, 15 April 2008 18:37 (seventeen years ago)

Thanks Dan Peterson! I actually tried to email you last week but I think the ILX email function is not working. Please get in touch at newdawnfades61@y_a_h_o_oDOTcom

Also, if I remember correctly, you're the one who helped me identify that song by Brick called Dazz. I can't tell you how much I appreciated that!

Bimble, Tuesday, 15 April 2008 19:03 (seventeen years ago)

jergs, grady, tim f, deej, hoos, jaxon, really anyone who posts on two out of three on balearic/beardo/ringtone

max, Tuesday, 15 April 2008 19:05 (seventeen years ago)

there are a few who share some of my all-consuming passions -- mark e, bimble, dan, spencer -- but i don't think there's anyone i'm completely in harmony with.

grimly fiendish, Tuesday, 15 April 2008 19:22 (seventeen years ago)

yeah max & deej & j0rdan, though as far as i know none of those guys listen to metal?

i think scott listens to some rap, right?

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Tuesday, 15 April 2008 19:25 (seventeen years ago)

I already mentioned Ned a few posts ago. To expand - I also have a good amount of overlap with Spencer, Dan, Jaymc, Andy K, then of course Bimble and Curtis on '80s stuff, and BIG HOOS on hip-hop, and Tim F on his music theory (though not always his music tastes), Scott S here and there, and I look up to Matos and Strongo a lot too. So, some combination of all those guys.

I also have a good amount of overlap with Spencer, Dan, Jaymc, Andy K

Since I don't know you very well, I'm curious about what impression I've given you about what I'm into. (I do think that Spencer and I have some similar tastes, so I'm not saying you're wrong.)
