my vote goes out to ewan pearson's 'friends with girls' mix
of 'i need your love' by the rapture.
there's a new remix of 'lithium' by somebody called 'dirty funker'
that's meant 2 b ace too.

and yourselves?

D Aziz (esquire1983), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 14:37 (twenty-one years ago)

mya ft. chingy - fallen (zone 4 remix)

m., Wednesday, 24 March 2004 15:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Those Dave Clarke mixes are really good.

Matthew Perpetua (Matthew Perpetua), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 15:58 (twenty-one years ago)

The black strobe remix of ghostrack is ace!

Also the paper faces remix of comfortably numb. I like all the ones on Job's list which I've heard, about 6 or 7.

Like the DFA mix of NERD but it is a bit too much what you'd expect perhaps.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 23:43 (twenty-one years ago)

I really want to hear the Tfieschwarz mix of Spektrum. And I want to hear Spektrum generally too!

The Friends with Girls mix is ace yes. But it would be better if it was called the Friends With Gurls mix.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 23:48 (twenty-one years ago)

It's a great list alright, but what exactly is so great about that Rennie Pilgrem remix?

Siegbran (eofor), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 23:49 (twenty-one years ago)

6) memphis bleek - round here remix ft. bg, bun b, lil flip, eightball, young buck, gangsta boo, pastor troy, trick daddy, and t.i.
5) trillville - neva eva remix ft. twista
4) victory 2004
3) usher, luda, lil jon, nivea, bonecrusher, pastor troy - yeah remix
2) kay slay/three six - who gives a fuck where you're from remix ft. cam'ron, fat joe, remy martin, sauce money, jim jones
1) t.i. - rubberband man remix ft. twista, mack 10, trick daddy

William Wiggins, Thursday, 25 March 2004 00:00 (twenty-one years ago)

what exactly is so great about that Rennie Pilgrem remix?

It makes it a little more acceptable for people like me to admit they're really into a Ferry Corsten track... ;-)

JoB (JoB), Thursday, 25 March 2004 10:45 (twenty-one years ago)

really want to hear the Tiefschwarz mix of Spektrum. And I want to hear Spektrum generally too!

Album is terrific and is coming out April 5 or 12. You can still hear that remix as the first track on my January 3 radio show. A Spektrum album track was played last Saturday.

JoB (JoB), Thursday, 25 March 2004 10:49 (twenty-one years ago)

I think the album version of "Kinda New" is better, although im a fan of Tiefschwarz too. Original version reminds me of Prince, with this minimal funk sound.

Andreas, Thursday, 25 March 2004 12:42 (twenty-one years ago)

1) t.i. - rubberband man remix ft. twista, mack 10, trick daddy

!

s1ocki (slutsky), Thursday, 25 March 2004 17:21 (twenty-one years ago)

dude, villalobos mixing hell? this i gotta hear....

philip sherburne (philip sherburne), Thursday, 25 March 2004 19:34 (twenty-one years ago)

It's a double 12" with Peter Kruder and Tiefschwarz also in on the action, the latter obviously on fire this year.

JoB (JoB), Friday, 26 March 2004 00:31 (twenty-one years ago)

villalobos mixing hell? this i gotta hear...

You can, here. ("uur 1" = "EERSTE UUR" = first hour = top loudspeaker button)

JoB (JoB), Friday, 26 March 2004 00:35 (twenty-one years ago)

It makes it a little more acceptable for people like me to admit they're really into...

The same logic can be applied to...

Superstar (Copenhaniacs Remix) - Jamelia (Parlophone)

JoB (JoB), Friday, 26 March 2004 00:37 (twenty-one years ago)

3) usher, luda, lil jon, nivea, bonecrusher, pastor troy - yeah remix

you heard the one with Freeway? He kills it.

Aloud-Sex and Sun (Thin White Duke Remix)

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 17:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Here's 10 that are doing it for me at the moment:

01) Greyboy - Genevieve (Quantic Remix) <- can you say funky?
02) Syntax - Bliss (Felix Da Housecat's Dub)
03) Chikinki - Like It Or Leave It (Tom Neville's Bed It Or Burn It Remix)
04) Armand Van Helden feat Spalding Rockwell - Hear my Name (Solid Groove's Hear My Rub mix) (i think it's his own remix, but it's well worth including anyway)
05) The Beta Band - Assessment (C Swing's Bootleg Mix) <- takes an otherwise dull and dreary tune and makes it pretty great
06) Avril - Be Yourself (Broadcast Remix) <- just whoah
07) Sia - Breathe Me (Ulrich Schnauss Remix) <- as dreamy as it should've been in the first place
08) Hybrid - Higher Than A Skyscraper (Freq Nasty's "Ragga Roc Relic Mix)
09) Basement Jaxx - Plug It In (AVH Remix)
10) Martin Solveig - Rocking Music (Warren Clarke Remix)

rentboy (rentboy), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 18:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Ah man Tom Neville fucking pisses me off!

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 18:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Am I the only one who thinks he just slept with someone in a high place and hence all this hype. That "Just Fuck" track is one of the shittest cheesiest house records I've heard, it along with the original "More Lemonade" by Bucci Bag are just two absolute clunkers!

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 18:21 (twenty-one years ago)

(I am interested to hear some of your other recommendations though)

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 18:23 (twenty-one years ago)

ulrich schnauss remixed sia? oo ah.

mark p (Mark P), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 18:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Avril - Be Yourself (Broadcast Remix)

!!!!!!!!!!!! NEED

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 18:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Agoria 'Stereolove (Me & Timy mix)' for me - as i said elsewhere i think it's a little bit bigger and better than the v similar remix of Senor Coconut's 'Smooth Operator' tho that is good for the vocal elements

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 18:25 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah i don't care much for tom neville either, but that mix... there's just something about it. the original is good, but a little on the nu-rock side for me. the remix makes it just the right level of oompa to it.

rentboy (rentboy), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 18:31 (twenty-one years ago)

How's the Warren Clarke remix of Rockin' Music. I wasn't 100 percent on the original, good but amazed it charted in the top 40.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 18:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Top 5 at the moment:

1.Mousse T - Is It Cos I'm Cool (Shakedown Remix)
2.Hertz - Recreate (Montana Remix)
3.303F - Shine (Mhonolink Remix)
4.Funk D'Void - All That Matters (Deetron Medellin Beats Remix)
5.Dave Clarke ft Chicks On Speed - What Was Her Name (LFO Remix)

Siegbran (eofor), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 19:09 (twenty-one years ago)

The Warren Clarke mix is good. It strips the track down to more of its funky elements and removes the thin layer of fromage that was previously gracing the top of the original.

rentboy (rentboy), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 19:54 (twenty-one years ago)

The Freeform Five's remix of Muscle Cars by Mylo is excellent actually.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 19:57 (twenty-one years ago)

That Mousse T/Shakedown thing sounds good. When those two acts remix eachother the results are always class.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 21:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Ten more since my March 24 post:

1. The Red Dress (Tiefschwarz Remix) - Phonique featuring die Elfen (Dessous)
2. Flamboyant (DJ Hell Remix) - Pet Shop Boys (Parlophone)
3. Mickey Mouse Muthaf*/@#s!! (Tiefschwarz Remix) - Mocky (Fine)
4. Trick Me (Adam Freeland Remix) - Kelis (Virgin)
5. The Ride (Tim Wright Dancefloor Mix) - Tim Wright (Novamute)
6. Hot on the Heels of Love (Carl Craig Re-Version) - Throbbing Gristle (Novamute)
7. Breathe Me (Four Tet Remix) - Sia (Go Beat)
8. The Black Keys Work (Phonique Remix) - Erlend Øye (!K7)
9. Fit But You Know it - The Streets featuring Kano, Donae’o, Lady Sovereign & Tinchy Stryder (Locked On/679)
10. Surfing on a Rocket (To the Smiling Sun Remix*) - Air (Source)

*) by Joakim

JoB (JoB), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 21:31 (twenty-one years ago)

i have a feeling that c swing betas remix is going to make me like the album a lot less

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 21:32 (twenty-one years ago)

My favourite so far by the way is probably the Tiefschwarz mix of Spektrum, which is as great as I expected.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 21:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Armand Van Helden feat Spalding Rockwell - Hear my Name (Solid Groove's Hear My Rub mix) (i think it's his own remix, but it's well worth including anyway)

Well worth including, but it is of course by the mighty Dave "Solid Groove" Taylor of Switch fame.

JoB (JoB), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 21:33 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah man, why didn't betas get c-swing on the mix again? that assessment remix just makes the track so much more sophisticated - betas should be as sophisticated as possible!

following on with tiefschwarz love - dj hell rerub is hot (for now - they're gonna burn out real soon and it's making me stop buying their records)

has anyone heard the whitey remix of kylie or is that just viciousness?

nebbesh (nebbesh), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 22:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Anyone heard the Juan Maclean mix of the new Air single?

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 29 April 2004 09:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Well worth including, but it is of course by the mighty Dave "Solid Groove" Taylor of Switch fame.

Ahhh thanks. The name didn't look familiar and I know AVH usually does a set of his own dubs so I just assumed... Quality remixes both the rub and the dub. Know if he's done other mixes for other people recently? nothing's turning up for me in the usual places to look

rentboy (rentboy), Thursday, 29 April 2004 10:08 (twenty-one years ago)

argh been bbs'ing too long LOL

rentboy (rentboy), Thursday, 29 April 2004 10:09 (twenty-one years ago)

another shout out to the four tet/sia remix. on the 10" there is a drop dead weird/fantastic remix by the moshi moshi hot chip gang that is just freaky ..
too fine by half.

mark e (mark e), Thursday, 29 April 2004 11:44 (twenty-one years ago)

avril - be yourself - broadcast remix

myke boomnoise (myke boomnoise), Friday, 30 April 2004 08:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Know if he's done other mixes for other people recently?

I can recommend:

Dubsided EP - Solid Groove (Dubsided)
Late at Night (Solid Groove Dubbed it) - Futureshock (Junior/Parlophone)
About Love (Solid Groove Remix) - Roy Davis Jr. (Classic)

JoB (JoB), Friday, 30 April 2004 13:53 (twenty-one years ago)

sweet, thanks.

rentboy (rentboy), Friday, 30 April 2004 14:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Anyone heard the Juan Maclean mix of the new Air single?

you can hear it on air's website!

s1ocki (slutsky), Friday, 30 April 2004 15:12 (twenty-one years ago)

God that Warren Clarke Dub of Rocking Music really is conclusive proof of how subtle the difference between a track working and not working is. Simple but ace.

I am really feeling Black Strobe's remix of Moskow Reise by David Carretta, Millimetric, and The Hacker. On Goodlife, naturally.

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 6 May 2004 14:08 (twenty-one years ago)

two weeks pass...
eads up.

piscesboy, Friday, 21 May 2004 09:18 (twenty-one years ago)

i like the isolee remix of recloose 'cardiology'

nebbesh (nebbesh), Friday, 21 May 2004 09:57 (twenty-one years ago)

nebbesh (nebbesh), Friday, 21 May 2004 09:57 (twenty-one years ago)

dfa remix of she wants to move is gash.

nebbesh (nebbesh), Friday, 21 May 2004 12:11 (twenty-one years ago)

four tet - My Angel Rocks Back And Forth (Four Teas On English Time - Icarus Remix)

myke boomnoise (myke boomnoise), Friday, 21 May 2004 14:46 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm really into the Red Astaire remix of Sia's "Where I Belong." Great stuff.

Matthew Perpetua (Matthew Perpetua), Friday, 21 May 2004 16:16 (twenty-one years ago)

hmm i wonder where i can download that from?

myke boomnoise (myke boomnoise), Friday, 21 May 2004 16:24 (twenty-one years ago)

That Adam Freeland mix of Kelis - Trick Me is shit hot.
Totally different feel to the great BJaxx mix but so awesome.

rentboy (rentboy), Friday, 21 May 2004 16:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Tiefschwarz are totally exploiting the gap in the remix whore market Pearson's left behind at the mo. Or at least trying to compete with La Strobe.

Strongo, not big on C-Swing's 'Squares' remix? Weren't that bad (not so good either, 'Assessment' is better to work with).

Bloah! (Barima), Friday, 21 May 2004 16:42 (twenty-one years ago)

OTM re Tiefschwarz - the relationship between their mixes and the originals are increasingly v. similar to that which Pearson has trademarked (ie. harder and gritter but also more expansive and epic - the way the "Kinda New" remix actually divides quite neatly into gritty part one and overblown anthemic part two is a good example).

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Friday, 21 May 2004 23:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Yo, can we get some links here please?

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Saturday, 22 May 2004 00:13 (twenty-one years ago)

the steve bug remix of "the creeps" on intl gigolo. omg great

phil-two (phil-two), Saturday, 22 May 2004 01:30 (twenty-one years ago)

wait but maybe that was late 2003

phil-two (phil-two), Saturday, 22 May 2004 01:31 (twenty-one years ago)

I like the Steve Bug remix but really it's just displaying the hook from the original more prominently, yeah? It's a *great* hook, but the credit should probably go to Freaks.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Saturday, 22 May 2004 02:33 (twenty-one years ago)

I think that remix is significantly better than the original, surely the key to making dance tunes is to display these things correctly, I mean the subtle differences are the important ones.

Ronan (Ronan), Saturday, 22 May 2004 18:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Probably better for dancing. The original's a big indie-electro hit which is very telling yeah. The only thing I miss in the remix is the underlying grunt "Creeps ba-baaaay, giving meeeeee..." that runs through the original. I agree with what I presume is your general contention that the Freaks are prone to sabotaging their own stuff sometimes. ALTHOUGH I'd contend that "Where Were You When The Lights Went Out" is the moment where they got the balance absolutely perfect. That's a deathless tune.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Sunday, 23 May 2004 03:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Martina Topley-Bird, "I Still Feel" (Jori Hulkkonen mix) -- rather shocked at how much I'm loving this, really, as I've never particularly rated Hulkkonen.

philip sherburne (philip sherburne), Sunday, 23 May 2004 18:22 (twenty-one years ago)

two months pass...
(tap tap) "is this thing on?"

has it been thin on the tom middleton ground this year
or have i not been paying attention?
what's her remixed apart from that kylie one?

piscesboy, Monday, 2 August 2004 14:47 (twenty-one years ago)

And Ewan Pearson ? Does anyone have news about him ?

snowballing (snowballing), Monday, 2 August 2004 15:24 (twenty-one years ago)

middleton has done some nice remixes, but he's (as usual) making his mark with smooth class rather than memorable remixes

in addition to the kylie mix:
ilya's "bliss' (one of my faves of the year)
a mix and dub of faithless' - "mass destruction"
a nice revisit of the beloved's "sweet harmony"

it has been a slim year though.

rentboy (rentboy), Monday, 2 August 2004 15:39 (twenty-one years ago)

and to the original thread, 12 more:

cerrone - you are the one (jamie lewis peak time dub)
lostep - burma (sasha_remix)
esthero - og bitch (bill hamel club vocal)
felix da housecat - rocket ride (soulwax rock it right mix)
yoko ono - everyman everywoman (basement jaxx man 2 man mix)
psychonauts - world keeps turning (emperor machines vocal)
kings of tomorrow - dreams (rasmus faber dub)
armand van helden - my my my (ashley beedle mix)
lali puna - micronomic (boom bip remix)
george michael - flawless go to the city (boxer mix)
plej - blue (a different shade of blue akufen remix)

and the aformentioned middleton mix of ilya's "bliss"

rentboy (rentboy), Monday, 2 August 2004 15:44 (twenty-one years ago)

where was the sweet harmony one? on like an actual beloved re-release? well i tell u what that passed me by.

piscesboy, Monday, 2 August 2004 16:42 (twenty-one years ago)

good call on soulwax.

I'm afraid Romain Tranchart takes the cake on this for me though, for his remix of Sex and Sun by Aloud.

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 2 August 2004 20:26 (twenty-one years ago)

The correct answer is:
Freiland - "Frei (Justus Kohncke "Hot Love" remix)"

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Monday, 2 August 2004 23:59 (twenty-one years ago)

From the past three months:

1. Right Here’s the Spot (Switch’s Drunk at the Dogstar Mix) - Basement Jaxx featuring Meshell Ndegeocello (XL) from the Good Luck remix EP
2. Rocket Ride (Soulwax 'Rock it Right' Mix) - Felix da Housecat & the Neon Fever (Emperor Norton)
3. Jazzwannabe (Nobodybeatsthedrum Remix) - O’Boogie (Drie Keer Raden) ruff broken beat business from the NL

13. Pleasure from the Bass (Joakim Remix) - Tiga (Different)
14. Strangest Things (Freeform Reform Dub) - Freeform Five (Ultimate Dilemma) didn’t like the vocals, so here’s the dub

18. Ether Radio (Serge Santiago Version) - Chichinki (Island)
19. Place in My Heart (Jori Hulkkonen Club Mix) - Star You Star Me featuring Erlend Øye (Kickin)
20. Dem Girls (Solid Groove Mix) - Mutiny featuring Sweetie Irie (Underwater) special mention for rentboy upthread

JoB (JoB), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 00:20 (twenty-one years ago)

the dfa remix of pixeltan's "get up" is pretty sick -- some fantastic sub-bass work

Nick Sylvester, Tuesday, 3 August 2004 00:29 (twenty-one years ago)

thanks JoB - i saw that Solid Groove mix of Mutiny when it came out. so damn funky

and i am starting to feel like i'm the only one NOT impressed by the Joakim mix of Tiga's single. I see it namechecked everywhere and it's just not doing much of anything for me. sounds like the stuff Marine Parade was putting out years ago, with Tiga's annoying vocal over it

what am i missing?

but great call on the morillo and audio bullys track. that whole "sampler" is fantastic

also, forgot to mention before:
braziu x plozian - berimbau (felix b remix)
and
roy davis jr - about now (solid groove remix) - though i'm not 100% sure that rdjr is from this year

rentboy (rentboy), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 03:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Good good call on the LFO mix of Raumschmiere. Turns that track into a slavering beast, so it does.

Jacob (Jacob), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 04:01 (twenty-one years ago)

roy davis jr - about now (solid groove remix) - though i'm not 100% sure that rdjr is from this year

It's called About Love and it's from January, so your lucky... ;-)

JoB (JoB), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 10:08 (twenty-one years ago)

three weeks pass...
This year, Cagedbaby has remixed:

Bucci Bag - 'More Lemonade'
Armand Van Helden - 'My, My, My'
Lazyboy - 'Western Skies' (Radio Slave/Cagedbaby mix)

So far, me like.

Who wants to do Tiga?

R.I.M.A. (Barima), Thursday, 26 August 2004 11:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh my GOD that Captain Comatose remix of Chelonis on the Get Physical comp is KILLER!

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Thursday, 26 August 2004 22:31 (twenty-one years ago)

BTW:
ratatat ratatat ratatat ratatat ratatat ratatat and ratatat.

The new version of jigga's "Sunshine" is WAY better than the original.

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Friday, 27 August 2004 01:34 (twenty-one years ago)

10 more doing it for me now

The Youngsters - Confusion (Serious Rework)
Inaya Day - Nasty Girl (Girl Club Mix)
Detroit Grand Pubahs - Big Onion (Joakim's Slap On It Remix)

that Sia mix is unfuckingbelievably great

this thread is a goldmine! It'll keep me busy for a few weeks

rentboy otm re: sia - where i belong (hot chip mix).

m. (mitchlnw), Saturday, 4 September 2004 23:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Add Benny Benassi - 'No Matter What You Do' to the Cagedbaby list.
The Mylo mix of Aloud - 'Rocky XIII' is still special after all these months.

Sean Bateman (Barima), Monday, 6 September 2004 09:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Mula - 'Do You Remember The Night' Cagedbaby mix - shouldn't have forgotten this. He's behind Tiefschwarz in some ways but doing a bang up job in both electro and dj-tool modern house.
Superthriller - 'Ahjustwannadance' Twitch Mix

B.A.R.M.S. (Barima), Monday, 6 September 2004 18:28 (twenty-one years ago)

The Lazyboy mix with Radio Slave is simply awesome. It's a sythnthetic pulse number with no beats, just clicks and yet it's driving and insistent. There's another mix he's done with someone else that I can't name at the minute.

B.A.R.M.S. (Barima), Monday, 6 September 2004 18:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Ah!

A Man Called Adam - 'Barefoot In The Head' Justin Robertson and Cagedbaby Remix

Awesome.

B.A.R.M.S. (Barima), Monday, 6 September 2004 19:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Nobody mentioned Mylo's mix of Sia - 'Breathe Me'? Huh.

B.A.R.M.S. (Barima), Monday, 6 September 2004 19:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Mylo - Drop The Pressure (Dirty Minds Rework)

I Monster - Hey Mrs (Glamour Puss Mix)
Kings of Convenience - I'd Rather Dance With You (Cornelius Mix)

rentboy (rentboy), Thursday, 7 October 2004 22:07 (twenty-one years ago)

oh and Tom Neville - Just Fuck (Dirty D Remix)

(though i know he has his hataz around here - in this very thread even)

rentboy (rentboy), Thursday, 7 October 2004 22:24 (twenty-one years ago)

MARY - scissor sisters (JUNKIE XL mix)

now that i've got to hear! mainly because i cant for the life of me imagine what he/anyone could do with it to make it any better/different in a cool way. anyone heard this remix?

wondrous song but odd choice for a single, i'd have thought filthy/gorgeous was the obvious next choice.

piscesboy, Friday, 8 October 2004 11:34 (twenty-one years ago)

sunday Seance - Blockhead - remix by Loka - a fucking awesome massive jazzdrum orchestral style. v. special.

mark e (mark e), Friday, 8 October 2004 11:37 (twenty-one years ago)

OK, I really love that Benassi/Cgaedbaby jam. The new mixes of Markus Nikolai's 'Bushes' by Freeform Five, Fantastic Plastic Machine and Cagedbaby (and another guy I've blanked on) are all kinda superb. 'Bushes' feels timeless.

B.A.R.M.S. (Barima), Friday, 8 October 2004 16:04 (twenty-one years ago)

I love "Bushes" but it seems like it's weirdly over-celebrated in relation to the rest of Nikolai's work (esp. as it's so uncharacteristic, although I guess that might be why). Like, I never see anyone other than myself talk about Back anywhere, even though it's a brilliant album.

In terms of remixes it's all about Freeform Five - Strangest Things (Freeform Reform Dub), Depeche Mode - Photographic (Rex the Dog Dubb Mix) and 2Raumwohnung - Spiel Mit (Alter Ego Mix) for me at the moment.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Friday, 8 October 2004 16:08 (twenty-one years ago)

what is it that annoys me about Freeform Five? i can't quite put my finger on it - can't be the 'hippie disco' vibe because i like teh Scissor Sisters...

Freelance Hiveminder (blueski), Friday, 8 October 2004 16:09 (twenty-one years ago)

love that Tiefschwarz mix of Chicks On Speed way upthread btw

Freelance Hiveminder (blueski), Friday, 8 October 2004 16:09 (twenty-one years ago)

not a "remix of the year" but Daft Punk's Franz Ferdinand mix has really grown on me. over a big system it really really makes the record alot better.

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 8 October 2004 16:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Re: Chicks/Tiefschwarz - that's a year old tho. I find the clelbration of Freeform annoying because they only had one great moment before their recent decency, and that was the original and versions of 'Perspex Sex', natch (oh, and maybe the NERD mixes).

B.A.R.M.S. (Barima), Friday, 8 October 2004 16:12 (twenty-one years ago)

I know nothing about them apart from this and "Perspex Sex", but this is seriously an amazing track - like the dub of "Perspex Sex" but bigger and more insane.

i have this idea in my head that electro-house has been big for about the same amount of time as French House had been when Basement Jaxx came along, and that we're seeing a similar inspired OTT maximalism at work in electro-house now. No single group or artist fits the Jaxx mode but that Freeform mix is well up there in terms of hysteria and expansiveness.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Friday, 8 October 2004 16:17 (twenty-one years ago)

I never listened to the reform they did for Annie years ago, despite playing it all the time.

B.A.R.M.S. (Barima), Friday, 8 October 2004 16:18 (twenty-one years ago)

I sent Steve the only other Cagedbaby mix I have an mp3 of (the Benassi), but he didn't feel it, even though I think it's the sort of dark, break-driven 80s electro you might like, T.

B.A.R.M.S. (Barima), Friday, 8 October 2004 16:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Obv the Jaxx weren't French House as stuff - I just mean house based explicitly around disco as a broader trend really. (double xpost)

I've heard the Cagedbaby remix of "My My My" once. It sounded a bit like Superchumbo I thought.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Friday, 8 October 2004 16:20 (twenty-one years ago)

That's fair to say. It's his weakest effort really. Last year's mix of 'Bucci Bag' is good, but his best thing yet is the debut single. Though, that Man Called Adam one with Justin Robertson and the Mula mix deserve to be big.

B.A.R.M.S. (Barima), Friday, 8 October 2004 16:31 (twenty-one years ago)

"Sounding like Superchumbo" isn't exactly a criticism though! If I'd disliked it I would have said "Sounds like current Subliminal Records stuff".

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Friday, 8 October 2004 16:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh. I do like it (and some Superchumbo), but as I said, he's done better. I'm no longer so sure about the Lazyboy mix he did with Radio Slave, simply because it's kinda slight. He tries on a lot of different hats. The latests, Bushes, is called the 'Cuban Heels Mix' and is a soft yet moving rhumba.

B.A.R.M.S. (Barima), Friday, 8 October 2004 16:38 (twenty-one years ago)

love that Tiefschwarz mix of Chicks On Speed way upthread btw

There is none. You mean the Blackstrobe remix?

I find the clelbration of Freeform annoying because they only had one great moment before their recent decency, and that was the original and versions of 'Perspex Sex', natch

Don’t forget, Beau Mot Plage!

Kelis - Trick Me (Tiefschwarz Remix)

Is this available anywhere at all?

JoB (JoB), Monday, 11 October 2004 20:21 (twenty-one years ago)

their Beau Mot Plage mix was good yeah! I used to play it first thing in the morning in work.

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 11 October 2004 20:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Franz Ferdinand - Dark Of The Matinee (Headman Vocal Remix)
Alter Ego - Rocker (Erol Alkan Deaf Disco Re-edit)
Kings of Convenience - I'd Rather Dance With You (Cornelius Mix)

All these seconded, even though Erol Alkan doesn't do a whole lot with Rocker. The Headman mix of Franz Ferdinand is utterly OTM. One of the best of the year, makes the song so much better. The Cornelius mix isn't for dancing, but it's supremely executed.

JoB (JoB), Monday, 11 October 2004 20:23 (twenty-one years ago)

is that the same as the "Headman Rave Mix" no? a vocal version of the same?

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 11 October 2004 20:26 (twenty-one years ago)

There's a "rave dub" and a "vocal remix". I prefer the vocal mix, and not just because of the vocals.

JoB (JoB), Monday, 11 October 2004 20:42 (twenty-one years ago)

i.e. it's not a vocal version version of the same.

JoB (JoB), Monday, 11 October 2004 20:43 (twenty-one years ago)

JoB (JoB), Monday, 11 October 2004 20:43 (twenty-one years ago)

the Rex the Dog remix of 'Girls'!

manuel (manuel), Monday, 11 October 2004 21:02 (twenty-one years ago)

I know nothing about them apart from this and "Perspex Sex"

Ronan already mentioned it, but the "Beau Mot Plage" mix is one of the best mixes ever! I imagine that certian ILM people might be annoyed at their sometime world-music/adult-house vibe (probably the same thing people don't like about Jazzanova).

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Monday, 11 October 2004 21:07 (twenty-one years ago)

"love that Tiefschwarz mix of Chicks On Speed way upthread btw

There is none. You mean the Blackstrobe remix?"

Might be referring to the Tiefschwarz mix of "We Don't Play Guitars", which is pretty great.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 00:29 (twenty-one years ago)

I think I need pretty much anything JoB's recommended or seconded (even the Cornelius. I'm losing my edge). I can send anyone the Man Called Adam/Justin R/Cagedbaby jam now.

oh my goodness, look at the abundant typos in that last one

rentboy (rentboy), Thursday, 4 November 2004 19:36 (twenty-one years ago)

has anyone heard the lfo remix of me and guiliani?

Full on techno with shouting, I like it.

JoB (JoB), Thursday, 4 November 2004 19:48 (twenty-one years ago)

diplo remixed galang? yummmm

mark p (Mark P), Thursday, 4 November 2004 20:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Typically, the Cornelius/Kings of Convenience clash is in my top 10, way better than the 'Drop' mix Kings did 2 years ago. Keigo's reciprocal remix scheme is a beautiful idea, but it also means he shows up the remixers something fierce when he remixes them (thank God he didn't ask the Manics or Moby to return the favours).

B.A.R.M.S. (Barima), Friday, 5 November 2004 10:35 (twenty-one years ago)

jackson air remix! cant be as pretty as it is in my head

m. (mitchlnw), Friday, 5 November 2004 11:19 (twenty-one years ago)

It wasn't outside of my head...

JoB (JoB), Friday, 5 November 2004 14:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Some more:

1. Eeeeaaooww (Stanton Warriors Remix) - Freeform Five featuring Bounty Killer (Ultimate Dilemma)
2. Drop the Pressure (Felix da Houscat Remix) - Mylo (Breastfed)
3. This Fffire (Trevor Jackson Remix) - Franz Ferdinand (Domino)
4. Keepintime Theme (Original Vocal Mix: Charlie Dark) - Keepintime (Mochilla)
5. Roy’s Theme (Extended Mix: DJ Shadow) - Keepintime (Mochilla)
6. Miss U Less, See U More (Switch’s Chops) - Faithless (Cheeky)
7. FR:01:V2 (Reinterpretation by Akufen) - Concept 1 (Minus)
8. Who Is It (Dattasette Mix) - Björk (One Little Indian)
9. Snark (Edit by Ricardo Villalobos) - Plastikman (Minus)
10. My Prerogative (X-Press 2 Dub) - Britney Spears (Jive)

JoB (JoB), Friday, 5 November 2004 14:36 (twenty-one years ago)

i wanted to like that Felix mix of "Drop the Pressure" but it's just not very good or interesting IMHO
but great call on the Switch mix of Faithless

rentboy (rentboy), Friday, 5 November 2004 14:43 (twenty-one years ago)

What's the verdict on the 'Enjoy The Silence' mixes? I seem to remember a certain Mr Mannion offering them to me and subsequently forgetting.

B.A.R.M.S. (Barima), Friday, 5 November 2004 14:48 (twenty-one years ago)

the !!!/lfo thing is good.

mark p (Mark P), Friday, 5 November 2004 14:54 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm also surprised that no good remixes of 'drop it like its hot' have surfaced.

mark p (Mark P), Friday, 5 November 2004 14:55 (twenty-one years ago)

one stray terribly from the original.
i like the extra funk to the Timo Maas mix, the Ewan Pearson one is nice but kinda unremarkable
and the Shinoda one is atrociously bad

rentboy (rentboy), Friday, 5 November 2004 14:58 (twenty-one years ago)

that also should say *none stray terribly from the original

rentboy (rentboy), Friday, 5 November 2004 15:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Thanks. Richard X's mix?

B.A.R.M.S. (Barima), Friday, 5 November 2004 15:19 (twenty-one years ago)

FR:01:V2 (Reinterpretation by Akufen) - Concept 1 (Minus)

this looks stolen from the "fave IDM tracks" thread

m. (mitchlnw), Friday, 5 November 2004 15:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah pretty much all the Enjoy the Silence remixes are low-key except for the bad Shinoda one. But I oddly adore the Ulrich Schnauss remix of "Little 15".

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Saturday, 6 November 2004 15:56 (twenty-one years ago)

the richard x remix of "enjoy the silence" is my pick, but the timo maas one is pretty damn great too.

tricky (disco stu), Saturday, 6 November 2004 16:33 (twenty-one years ago)

jacques lu cont's remix of the new Gwen Stefani tore up the club on Thursday.

Ronan (Ronan), Saturday, 6 November 2004 16:34 (twenty-one years ago)

i think a lu cont remix comp is in order. he's done so many good ones...

tricky (disco stu), Saturday, 6 November 2004 16:37 (twenty-one years ago)

and his choice in cardigans is pretty good too.

http://www.bodytonicmusic.com/backlashpics/jacques_01.11.04/IMGP0792.jpg

Ronan (Ronan), Saturday, 6 November 2004 16:46 (twenty-one years ago)

(btw, the richard x remix of ETS is pretty much perfect in my estimation. he manages to keep the sweetness of the original intact, but also makes it good and dirty/sleazy like he has a penchant for doing. the timo maas mix would probably destroy in the right progressive house set, but it's got this wicked electro-house bent to it)

haha ronan, that cardigan is classy

tricky (disco stu), Saturday, 6 November 2004 16:48 (twenty-one years ago)

(mr. x brings the sex to what was an otherwise neutered original)

tricky (disco stu), Saturday, 6 November 2004 16:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah Richard X the pick of the lot probably. I was disappointed though that no-one took the chance to capitalise on schaffel and update "Personal Jesus" - or were the Francois K versions considered to be unfuckwittable?

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Sunday, 7 November 2004 00:19 (twenty-one years ago)

I kinda thought that too.

however, what of the cardigan

Ronan (Ronan), Sunday, 7 November 2004 01:56 (twenty-one years ago)

the lfo remix of "me & guiliani" is great (surprisingly - I thought the guy's voice stripped of context would be horrible!), as is the jacques lu cont remix of gwen stefani's "what you waiting for" (tore up, um, my flat's living room this evening); currently d/l-ing the junior senior salvaging of that new le tigre track.

++
michael dracula - "destroy yourself (twitch's optimo mix)" (is this ever gonna get officially released?)
the glass - "hear the music (mylo remix)" (reminds me of cut copy, ha)

etc, Wednesday, 10 November 2004 11:32 (twenty-one years ago)

erm, much as i hate to admit it, the jacknife lee 10" mix of "vertigo" really had me rocking out on the way to work this morning
the squelchy bits are outstanding

rentboy (rentboy), Wednesday, 10 November 2004 13:39 (twenty-one years ago)

one month passes...
bump for the NYE DJ thread
