How hot is Dominique Leone in person?

I'm a big fan of Leone's pitchforkmedia.com reviews, as well as her online presence on the threads here (see chords -> colors piece here).

I must know if the beauty of her virtual world prose is an indicator of her real world persona, or if her online alter-ego belies a very different person!

by the way, dominique, that color/chords thing you have is called synaesthesia (if you haven't already learned this in the two years since that thread) -- that is, if the colors/sounds are involuntarily linked in your mind and you always see the same colors and shapes with the same absolute pitches (therefore you also have absolute pitch). fascinating condition, i'm very envious of people who have it. you can read about it here.

if you're just asking about what you vaguely think of when you hear those chords then you're just like the rest of us, ie, projecting!

common_person (common_person), Thursday, 29 April 2004 20:14 (twenty-one years ago)

I made that mistake once! however I never started a thread.

Gear! (Gear!), Thursday, 29 April 2004 20:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, that's a disappointment. I'm new to this msg board, so I guess it's forgivable since I've mostly read pitchfork and hoped that at least one of them was a girl....

Oh well, nothing wrong with a little challenge to one's sexual identity...

chris andrews (fraew), Thursday, 29 April 2004 21:29 (twenty-one years ago)

does the idea of a female pitchfork writer make you horny? like a girl who knows and loves music AND writes about it. but she's a girl. and maybe she's pretty. and female. and maybe she knows more than you do. and she's got boobies.

myke boomnoise (myke boomnoise), Thursday, 29 April 2004 21:39 (twenty-one years ago)

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Thursday, 29 April 2004 21:43 (twenty-one years ago)

does the idea of a male ILM poster posting about getting off on the idea of female music writers make you irritated and depressed? maybe he's a dork. and maybe he knows less than you do. and maybe he needs an attitude adjustment. (preferably a swift kick to the groin.)

geeta (geeta), Thursday, 29 April 2004 21:44 (twenty-one years ago)

no, it's just a classic case of seeking out an idealized version of oneself in form of what one is sexually attracted to -- which is lame.

Remember how we started
Not so long ago
We dreamed of giving everyone
A personal way to grow.
Our dream became reality
And now we're making....
.... History!

Take imagination, and let it lead the way
To a new world of discovery
Setting light, every day
Bringing smiles to children's faces
Opening doors to brand new places

Chorus Apple II Forever!
Making life better and better!
Apple II Forever and ever
Bringing the rainbow to you!
Apple II!
Forever! (Forever!)

Oooo-oooh yeah
And now the world keeps changing
And we'll be changing too
Reaching out with new ideas
And bringing them all to you!
Our future keeps on growing and growing
Our colours keep on showing and glowing

Chorus Apple II Forever!
Making life better and better!
Apple II Forever and ever
Bringing the rainbow to you!
Apple II!

My new band is called Laser Lazer Laser. We only play in lefty community gardens with their own health plans. Here is our bio:

"Since The Beatles, any rock band that doesn't write its own material could be considered somehow unworthy of the title. The current era's pathological lust for "genuineness" spelled doom for the golden age of the professional songwriter, the semi-anonymous tin-pan-alley dweller who banged out ditties on cheap pianos for the stars of his day. Rock snobs have to see ‚written and performed by‚creds in the liner notes or the magic was just so much fake-book sleight-of-hand.

One result of this sea change is that a lot of the great rock records of the past 30 years are essentially uncoverable. They were barfed up from the collective unconscious of the bands that wrote and made them famous, and as such, are all but unusable by others. That barfing has produced some of the greatest art in history.

You could find bios of James Brown, Duke Ellington, Led Zeppelin, and many others among the candy wrappers and broken picks on the floor of our van. This awareness of the tradition of pre-rock songwriting is something we definitely value and respect: there would be no Lennon/McCartney without Dozier-Holland-Dozier. No Carole King without Leiber and Stoller. No Brian Wilson without Bacharach-David, without Sammy Cahn, without Rodgers and Hammerstein. No Laser Lazer Laser without ILM."

mark p (Mark P), Friday, 22 July 2005 17:15 (twenty years ago)

It makes perfect sense! Dominique is a "hot girl" who has a girlfriend, and therefore needs a manly bearded beard to make her seem less lesbionic.

nabisco (nabisco), Friday, 22 July 2005 17:32 (twenty years ago)

"her"

nabisco (nabisco), Friday, 22 July 2005 17:32 (twenty years ago)

Dominique is a lesbian?

Dominique (dleone), Friday, 22 July 2005 17:53 (twenty years ago)

I did not invent Dom's girlfriend! I supplied a few of the parts -- mostly bio-neural feedback transformers -- but I totally did not "invent" her.

nabisco (nabisco), Friday, 22 July 2005 17:57 (twenty years ago)

Rob Mitchum is an attractive man. Very sturdy-looking.

digital only for now (itunes, beatport, etc), possible vinyl this year -- this is what happens when you have to change distributors mid-stream. however, cd promos are going out soon for late march release, so i'm sure all will be leaked shortly... ;)

Well, I should mention that Dominique and his band were very good! Cool weird experimental pop. He had a bass player, a drummer, and a flautist/vocalist, some of whom played from sheet music for the whole set! He said they weren't on the album though. His voice reminded me (a LOT) of Mark Davies from the Thinking Fellers Union Local 282, which is a compliment.

They were all hot but the drummer was especially stylish.

Dominique Leone is the subject of a leader in the Guardian.

Dominique Leone getting in the paper is awesome and I'm all for it, but "what's new about his achievement is that he took Reich's piece and remixed it" seems a slightly weak angle, given that there have already been 2 pretty high-profile "Reich Remixed" compilations

anyhow, that doesn't matter - nice bit of publicity, hope it leads to some new ears listening to Dominique (Reich too, for that matter), look forward to hearing the remix

The rewriting of works by other composers is a venerable tradition, going back to at least the time of Josquin

ha ha good grief! that's got it backwards all right

Anyway, everyone vote for the D Leone track I nominated in the ILX 2010 trax poll (40/60) coz it's better than the other trax

How did he get on with that "One new track every day" year?

Last time I checked he was owning it.

In retrospect it feels like Dominque was the only writer on earth who treated "V∞redoms" like an actual thing

Whiney G. Weingarten, Tuesday, 13 February 2018 18:41 (eight years ago)

oh god this thread again.

really? They were definitely going by that at shows for maybe 10 years or so after VCN. They never released anything as Voredoms afaik, but I always figured that was due more to publishing than anything.

Dominique, Tuesday, 13 February 2018 19:10 (eight years ago)

v00redoms was and is my ebay name

Karl Malone, Tuesday, 13 February 2018 19:14 (eight years ago)

well, according to RED BULL MUSIC ACADEMY

"By the time of the new millennium, Boredoms were re-named V∞redoms (although they still used Boredoms in the West)."

Whiney G. Weingarten, Tuesday, 13 February 2018 19:23 (eight years ago)

yeah, iirc Eye made a big deal about the idea of the band being a dual turntable (which I always took as the meaning of the ∞ symbol). And to me, anything made w/the Eye + drummers formation = V∞redoms. Probably doesn't matter of course.

Dominique, Tuesday, 13 February 2018 19:25 (eight years ago)

Vooredoms was a real thing afaic, in some ways my favorite of all the phases of eyes project. I just wish it was better documented outside of bootlegs. The super roots with the choir doesn’t quite capture the fire

You mean the one credited to "Boredoms" in the US and Japan alike?
