Totally agree about the Associates.Always hated the lame synths.

evan chronister (evan chronister), Monday, 3 January 2005 04:51 (twenty-one years ago)

There's a UK psychedelic folk album from the early '70s by a band called Moonkyte that I've been wanting to hear for years. It was only re-released once, probably unoficially, somewhere a long time ago. There's a track from it called "Jelly Man" on the Electric Sugarcube Flashbacks CD.

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Monday, 3 January 2005 04:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Hugh Masekela, Masekela -- got it on kinda-crackly vinyl, but I jones for a CD remaster. Most of his super-great late '60s-early '70s stuff is completely out of print and that's a damn travesty.

What's this place, Biblevania? (natepatrin), Monday, 3 January 2005 05:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Bernard Wright -- Mr. Wright.

His 3rd lp. From liek 1995 i think. I am DYING to hear "Too Damn Hot" again.

Andy K. might be my only hope. What's up AK, do you have this lp??

Stormy Davis (diamond), Monday, 3 January 2005 05:34 (twenty-one years ago)

oooops -- should say "1985", of course

Stormy Davis (diamond), Monday, 3 January 2005 05:34 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm still looking for rosebud's disco balls (i have an mp3 of the "have a cigar" 12" but that's it).

and chuck barris presents themes from tv game shows (themes that he wrote, being mr. "palisades park" and all) (this came out in the '70s and was briefly issued on cd in 1997 on a tiny and now-defunct australian label)

Turkey versus Eagle, McCauley is my Beagle (Jody Beth Rosen), Monday, 3 January 2005 05:35 (twenty-one years ago)

One of these years I'd love to hear Starsailor by Tim Buckley.

steve hise, Monday, 3 January 2005 05:40 (twenty-one years ago)

I can burn you a copy, steve. I've got it ripped at 160 bps right now but if you want I could rip it higher.

stephen morris (stephen morris), Monday, 3 January 2005 06:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Stephen, I've been trying to get it, no joke, for nine years.

I tried out that address you have, but it didn't work. If you're willing, email me at

and I'll try to get you something decent in return.

Jerks Versions of a Dream by Howard Devoto.
Drunk on the Pope's Blood by the Birthday Party
Teen Babes from Monsanto by Redd Kross
HA! Killing Joke Live! by Killing Joke
Belfegore by Belfegore (though I own a nice CD-R of it)

Jerky Versions of THE Dream...I should say.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 3 January 2005 14:12 (twenty-one years ago)

What's so special about "Chinese Restaurant? (genuine question)

Jedmond (Jedmond), Monday, 3 January 2005 14:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Alternative Tentacles' Let Them Eat Jellybeans and the Enigma sampler, The Enigma Variations. I don't know if I'd kill for the latter, but I'd certainly kick someone very hard in the shins for it to be re-printed on compact disc.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 3 January 2005 14:34 (twenty-one years ago)

and a couple of titles more:

yeah, that was reissued on 'merlin records' at some point. if you're desperate, i can burn it for you.

el sabor de gene (yournullfame), Monday, 3 January 2005 14:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Marco, Sulk is in print and not hard to attain. Cutty and Evan, The Affectionate Punch should probably be re-issued this year...they found a copy of the masters in Germany several months ago.

Portably:
This Heat's first two albums (I have Deceit on mp3, but no burner or anything)
Look Blue Go Purple (some of the live mp3s that are floating around, and I want a tangible copy of Compilation but I don't have a credit card)
Girls At Our Best! - Pleasure (only in print for fifteen minutes back in 2001)
Annette Peacock - The Perfect Release
Someone to reissue those early Scritti Politti records (and their first Peel Session, which was never released)
Agriculture Club - Smell the Dairy Air EP

Ian Moraine (Eastern Mantra), Monday, 3 January 2005 14:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Alan Braufman - Valley of Search LP

There are a couple things from Time-Lag Records that I wish I scooped up, and also Furniture Music for Evening Shuttles by Tower Recordings.

Plus a few bands on Homework/Messthetics comps that I would like to hear more of -- Y Pants, Record Players, etc.

I probably wouldn't actually kill for these.

i want anything by the wygals.

Turkey versus Eagle, McCauley is my Beagle (Jody Beth Rosen), Monday, 3 January 2005 15:55 (twenty-one years ago)

For '70s vinyl thangs never reissued, George Brigman's Jungle Rot and the first LP by the Bizarros. For OOP CDs, Original Concept's Straight from the Basement of Kooley High, Duran Duran's Night Versions, and Black Rust and Chrome or whatever the hell that thing (compilation of obscure black acid-rockers) was called.

Myonga Von Bontee (Myonga Von Bontee), Monday, 3 January 2005 16:32 (twenty-one years ago)

I've been looking for the Flare album for like two years. I know it's vaguely in print but its seemingly completely unfindable in Europe, I may have to move to Canada just to hear it.

Gravel Puzzleworth (Gregory Henry), Monday, 3 January 2005 18:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Prick Decay, "Planet Cuba". Sat on my hands, saw it available, watched it sell out. Oops.

Stephen Boyle (SBoyle), Monday, 3 January 2005 18:27 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm with Shakey on that Howlin' Wolf record.

I've got Pacific Ocean Blue if you'd like a CDR of it. (And of Bamboo, for that matter.) I assume you're looking for an authentic copy, though.

Dark Horse, Monday, 3 January 2005 19:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Well I used to get all upset over OOP records before I found slsk. Now when I can't find something it doesn't hurt so bad because there's so much else to get distracted by. Recently it has bugged me that I still haven't been able to get all of the Frantic Elevators, stuff, though, and it's been a couple of years now. Still, I look at the prices obscure post-punk vinyl fetches these days and even if I found it, I doubt I'd pay the price. Particularly since Mick Hucknall went on to be in Simply Red. But the one song by Frantic Elevators I've found on slsk is total crap, so maybe I've already got all the good stuff.

Bimble..., Monday, 3 January 2005 19:36 (twenty-one years ago)

This Heat's first two albums (I have Deceit on mp3, but no burner or anything)

yes, seconded! the sad thing is that they HAVE been rereleased (Deceit has twice, remastered the second time around), and those went out-of-print. I did score a copy of the recent Deceit a couple years ago. and Blue and Yellow is supposed to be These Records next reprint... but still waiting, always waiting. They both show up on eBay fairly regularly though.

Yes, that is very upsetting about This Heat being in print for such a short time. Same with Annette Peacock, apparently...it may have been reissued a year ago, but I can't find it anywhere except for one seller on GEMM who's offering it for $34. So I will kill for it.

I would kill for that aforementioned Associates reissue if I didn't know that it was coming out later this year, of course.

Go to emusic.com, sign up for a trial. You'll get 40 free downloads. Cancel after you get all 40 and you won't be charged. There you can get both Patty Waters lps, along with all sorts of other ESP-Disk goodies, on extremely high quality 192 kbps VBR mp3s. Won't cost you a cent.

Why the hell someone hasn't reissued the "Return Visit to Rock Mass" opus by Maher Shalal Hash Baz is beyond me. At least 5 people per day download all 83 tracks off my hard drive via Soulseek. I know they'd buy it if they could. Reiko Kudo's "Fire Inside My Hat" should be rereleased as well.

Speaking of Annette Peacock, it's criminal that "I'm the One" has never been released on CD at all. Fuck you, RCA!

There's a UK psychedelic folk album from the early '70s by a band called Moonkyte that I've been wanting to hear for years.

repost from the MBV thread:

This track, perhaps called "2" was made by Kevin Shields specifically for the La La La Human Steps dance troupe production also called simply 2 (from 1995 - video clips can be found here. I believe Michael Apted also made a film that was played during the performance. It sounds like an extended take of one of the incidental interstitial tracks from To Here Knows When and Loveless. However, I also think it's somehow much more beautiful than any of those. I am desperate to find a high quality recording of this track. Like MBV's "Sugar" before, it's now my holy grail of music! I've contacted the La La La Human Steps but unfortunately, no CD was ever made...

Aww, Vinyl Ink. Always a very intimidating place to me. I bought Flipper's Album at their closing sale. Someone in line informed me that he approved of my purchase, and I was all like, I don't even know who you are...

Spencer, I have that Opal disc and was debating selling it on eBay, but it seemed like a shame to do so because I'd just get $60 or so out of it and it bothers me to give up music for anything but more music. If you want to send an email to my working address above, maybe we could work out a trade? I don't care about owning rare things, and right now I don't have a CD burner but could really go for a batch of good mix discs.

Matt Dennis, "Dennis, Anyone?" (yeah, I know I can get the Japanese cd import, but I want original vinyl!)

The UK-only Shelby Lynne CD-5 of "Your Lies" that has two non-album tracks from the "I Am..." sessions, including the wonderful "Miss You, Sissy"

Andrew Hill "Lift Every Voice"

A quick google confirms this was re-issued a couple years ago.

Let me add another vote for Human Switchboard. I lost my originals years ago, and now have only crappy MP3s of Coffee Break and Who's Landing...

hah, sounds like a corny pickup line. i liked going there because there always seemed to be someone knowledgeable and friendly working there.

my first time at Other Music a few years back, i was flipping madly through the psych/kraut section and some dude (ilxor?) was looking over my shoulder "aah, Amon Düül, that one's more like sprawling, messy jams. Amon Düül 2 is better, you should check out Yeti." and this was from a customer, so it was kinda weird. (another pickup line maybe?)

Voivod: Nothing Face CD

haha, come to the Northwest.. they're trying to almost give away used CDs of this... I found mine in Vancouver for $6CAN only to go back to Seattle and see two of them used for $3US each.

chris andrews (fraew), Saturday, 8 January 2005 08:11 (twenty-one years ago)

hstencil (hstencil), Saturday, 8 January 2005 08:13 (twenty-one years ago)

While it's on my mind - I wouldn't actually kill, but I'd gladly dish out some pain for any Circle X recordings outside of Celestial.

David R. (popshots75`), Saturday, 8 January 2005 08:15 (twenty-one years ago)

if i could burn, i would. i've got a few things.

hstencil (hstencil), Saturday, 8 January 2005 08:16 (twenty-one years ago)

actually, it's annoying, I have this stuff that people have mentioned:

patty waters- sings
2 1970s Hugh Masakela recs
Tim Buckley, Starsailor
No New York
the This Heat cds
Alan Braufman - Valley of Search LP
Furniture Music for Evening Shuttles by Tower Recordings.
Han Bennink/Derek Bailey- Company 3 (think its that one, blue cover w/ the boat on it)
Dennis Wilson, Pacific Ocean Blue
Frank Wright's One For John,

and I USED to have even more of the stuff people listed but sold it

BUT I have no way to burn anything for anybody. SUCKS.

hstencil (hstencil), Saturday, 8 January 2005 08:21 (twenty-one years ago)

do you have their cover of harry nilsson's "don't forget me" (on the "when the curtain calls for you" single)? it's one of my favorite things they did as JF*E.

cathy berberian (Jody Beth Rosen), Saturday, 8 January 2005 08:30 (twenty-one years ago)

The Perfect Beats! I only have the first one. It drives me completely crazy that for some reason I didn't bother to buy the other three at the time. arrrrrrgh.

daria g (daria g), Saturday, 8 January 2005 08:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Donut Christ -- yeah, that's the one. I'm not so interested in the two live tracks, and I already have "Message to Love" on the 2nd album, but I want "Cuban Slide" and "Porcelain."

I Am Curious (George) (Rock Hardy), Saturday, 8 January 2005 15:04 (twenty-one years ago)

I would love to see The Dicks "Kill From The Heart" lp released on cd, one of my favorite punk albums ever.. Alternative Tentacles did put out a Dicks compilation cd, but it only had a few tracks from that album.
