Usher, Lil' Jon and Ludacris - "Lovers and Friends"
Something like a chopped and screwed and fucked "Yeah"... only less hygenic.
"Please tell yer lovers and friends / that Ursher, Jon and Luda hadta do it again"

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Friday, 4 February 2005 18:29 (twenty-one years ago)

GONG

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 4 February 2005 18:33 (twenty-one years ago)

This track inspires Alex-in-NYC levels of fury in me. I mean, shit, Luda, good for you that you get some - ACT LIKE IT.

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 4 February 2005 18:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, this is pretty bad excepting Luda's "Rudy Huxtable" and "your legs can go they separate... ways" line.
The Lil' Jon rap is downright painful.

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Friday, 4 February 2005 18:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Between this & "Splash Waterfalls", Luda should never be allowed to talk about sex on wax again.

You're right about the "Rudy" line, though. SHORRDAY.

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 4 February 2005 18:40 (twenty-one years ago)

And that answers the question of how to spell that particular permutation of "shorty".

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Friday, 4 February 2005 18:41 (twenty-one years ago)

i was merely underwhelmed by this til ludacris offered the pillow to bite. WTF?!?

Oh, and that fucking stupid "ah-ah-HOOO" that Ursher does before Luda goes into the "had to do it again" refrain. SHORRDAY.

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 4 February 2005 18:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Aw you guys are no fun. I like it, and I think Lil Jon approaches a kind of genius here. I don't know exactly what kind, but some kind anyway. Maybe I just miss ODB. ("In the bathtub, rub-a-dubbin'"

The Obligatory Sourpuss (Begs2Differ), Friday, 4 February 2005 19:18 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm somewhat conflicted because my mind tells me that this song is the aural equivalent of an open-ass sandwich while my heart is shouting "SHORRRDAY!" and giggling. It's like my Spice Girls reaction.

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 4 February 2005 19:23 (twenty-one years ago)

FINALLY I GET TO HEAR THIS! THANK YOU! It's been killing me not to hear this despite it being a top 3 single without a video.

this is a top 3 single?!?
I don't think this one is so bad, but I do tend to skip it on the album.

Shakey Mo Collier, Friday, 4 February 2005 19:25 (twenty-one years ago)

this song has SKYROCKETED up the charts, despite no video and no promotion whatsoever.

I'm enjoying it so far, though it's a bit slow. But it's not like I say no to silly.

ok I just got to the pillow part. I am losing it.

the song is #5 this week, its peak was #3 but its up a spot from last #6. I'm guessing it will eventually hit #1.

THERE ARE ONLY FOUR SONGS AMERICA LOVES MORE THIS WEEK

Chris Rock, "Let Me Love You"
Demure bubblecrunk vixen #4343, "1, 2 Step"
Destiny's Child, "Dick With A Wallet Attached, Please Thank You"
Green Day, "When The Fuck Did We Turn Into Tonic"

That's it!

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Friday, 4 February 2005 19:40 (twenty-one years ago)

They play this song like every goddamn morning on power 106. I just cant handle Lil' Jon trying to come off as sexy.

Dude, are you a 15 year old asian chick? (jingleberries), Friday, 4 February 2005 19:40 (twenty-one years ago)

you do realize there must be a very large group of people in this country who can listen to this song with no irony whatsoever

miccio (miccio), Friday, 4 February 2005 19:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Green Day, "When The Fuck Did We Turn Into Tonic"

What the fuck EVER. SHORRDAY.

Though I'm starting to think the song is great. This happened the 2nd time I heard it. I think it's just a phrase.

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Friday, 4 February 2005 19:44 (twenty-one years ago)

lil jon's verse reminds me of that scene in zoolander where the reporter is sandwiched between hansel and zoolander when suddenly the dwarf rises up from below the screen

miccio (miccio), Friday, 4 February 2005 19:44 (twenty-one years ago)

"the song" = Ursher, Jon & Luda, of course. SHORRDAY.

no "irony" here, just a love of goofy-ass rich guys making a goofy-ass slow-jam for teenagers.*

Why you corrupter of the nation's morals you.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 4 February 2005 19:49 (twenty-one years ago)

haha this song is great! I can't believe ppl are hating. It flips that basic R&B piano/beat into a strangely idiosyncratic single. And Lil Jon's singing is awesome! And the chant the end, "please tell your lovers and friends, that ursher jon and luda had to do it again" this song is fantastic.

Um why on earth would anyone listen to this "ironically," and what on fucking earth would the purpose of such an action be?

djdee2005 (djdee2005), Friday, 4 February 2005 19:50 (twenty-one years ago)

miccio the song clearly has a sense of humor about itself and i think that pretty much most people who love it "get" that its funny.

ok by using the word "goofy-ass" twice in your description you're not in the "no irony" camp, Matt

I dunno there were some people in town who thought Eamon was speaking THE MUTHAFUCKIN' TRUTH.

miccio (miccio), Friday, 4 February 2005 19:53 (twenty-one years ago)

I can't seriously pretend to like this song but I will defend to the death your right to like it.

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Friday, 4 February 2005 19:54 (twenty-one years ago)

there are people in this country who think Eamon laid that shit out for real no joke and there are people who probably see this as a bonafide no-different-than-Marvin-Gaye slow jam.

miccio (miccio), Friday, 4 February 2005 19:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Anthony you are wrong, it IS goofy but I am not loving this song with "irony" a.k.a. in spite of itself or against my better judgment or anything. It is meant to be goofy-ass. If you meant to say that people love "Lovers and Friends" on a romantic tip, instead of as a goof, then say so dammit.

The Obligatory Sourpuss (Begs2Differ), Friday, 4 February 2005 19:56 (twenty-one years ago)

FAGGOTS ON THE MAT: The Comprehensive History of Gay Wrestling

Early 90s - Nell Carter and Sherman Helmsley wrestle on an episode of Amen. Carter, rumored to be a lesbian, and Helmsley, mega-rumored to be gay, go all out for ten minutes, during what surely must have been a writer's strike. Carter hilariously kicks Helmsley's skinny Deacon ass.

Two things:

1) The "bite (uncomfortable pause) that?" kills me because it sounds like he's reading the lyrics for the first time and can't believe someone actually wants him to say it.

2) Is the second line of Lil Jon's vers "but fuckin' never crossed my mind" or "butt fuckin' never crossed my mind?"

I like how they shoehorn Luda in there to recreate the "Yeah!" dynamic and shoehorn Jon's verse in there to justify it being on his album, if they hadn't squeezed those elements into it it would just be a mediocre Usher song. I mean, Lil Jon's verse is amazing, he almost sounds like he's crying, and then there's that couplet: "are you sure you wanna go this route?/let a nigga know before I pull it out"

Al (sitcom), Friday, 4 February 2005 21:36 (twenty-one years ago)
