Cos I think they are really good.

Cheers.

Zarr, Friday, 4 March 2005 17:27 (twenty years ago)

and Madchester revival begins....... nnnnnnnnnnnnNOW.

Shakey Mo Collier, Friday, 4 March 2005 17:31 (twenty years ago)

take a guess. i would much rather listen to Lo-Fis, Campag, Custom Blue, Regular Fries and about 20 other bands who did a similar but better sort of thing five or more years ago.

Sven Bastard (blueski), Friday, 4 March 2005 17:31 (twenty years ago)

I've never heard any of those bands. what I've heard of Kasabian seems nice enough. stupid band name tho (Manson is such a tired ref)

Shakey Mo Collier, Friday, 4 March 2005 17:34 (twenty years ago)

I think they've got a good sound.

Music seems better and better these days.

Zarr, Friday, 4 March 2005 17:47 (twenty years ago)

i found the album had a very short shelf life. so i side with the Bastard above - go discover : lo-fi allstars/campag/regular fries who all still get regular airing @ ireallylovemusic hq ..

mark e (mark e), Friday, 4 March 2005 17:49 (twenty years ago)

i would much rather listen to Lo-Fis, Campag, Custom Blue, Regular Fries and about 20 other bands

I would rather listen to nails being scraped down a blackboard.

The Lex (The Lex), Friday, 4 March 2005 17:57 (twenty years ago)

now that I think of it, ALL of these bands have terrible band names.

Shakey Mo Collier, Friday, 4 March 2005 18:10 (twenty years ago)

have to question the naming of Custom Blue .. weren't they very smooth sounding .. kinda like a mo'wax era South-lite

mark e (mark e), Friday, 4 March 2005 18:20 (twenty years ago)

"Regular Fries"? Do I get a bic mac and a shake with that? fucking DUD.

Shakey Mo Collier, Friday, 4 March 2005 18:21 (twenty years ago)

I think they've got a good sound.
Music seems better and better these days.

thats the problem, it's 'old' music. it's been done. and better

Rizz (Rizz), Friday, 4 March 2005 18:26 (twenty years ago)

i enjoy the disc quite a bit, even though i know its been done better before. i'll admit that it probably would have been a better 5 song EP than an entire album, but those 5 songs would be pretty killer.

jonviachicago, Friday, 4 March 2005 18:44 (twenty years ago)

They came through Toronto recently, and the press interviews were pathetic ... they kept going on about how they're the best thing ever, and "havin' it" on tour as a rock and roll band, etc. They had the Oasis 1994 Manual memorized.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Friday, 4 March 2005 18:45 (twenty years ago)

Kasabian sounds more like late-period Roses/Mondays to me. Maybe that's who Regular Fries et al were ripping off (I wouldn't know)...

Shakey Mo Collier, Friday, 4 March 2005 18:51 (twenty years ago)

The return of....

MANSUN!!!! AAAARRRGHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!

dog latin (dog latin), Friday, 4 March 2005 19:11 (twenty years ago)

Regular fries is a great bandname!

At Risk supported Kasabian in Oxford, Dave says they are nice.

Gravel Puzzleworth (Gregory Henry), Friday, 4 March 2005 19:59 (twenty years ago)

The words "suck", "hippo" and "balls" spring to mind. Dreary retrogressive shite with no semblance of a tune, unless you count "Just". Raise your standards.

Ferlin Husky (noodle vague), Friday, 4 March 2005 20:04 (twenty years ago)

GAY SHITE, I SAY!

but seriously though, it's really nothing special is it?

Nic de Teardrop (Nicholas), Saturday, 5 March 2005 00:35 (twenty years ago)

Kasabian are not bad, have a few good songs, though the album as a whole not that good.
lo-fi allstars: I liked their first album a few years ago, but who can listen this now? terribly boring and long-long songs. half of them would have been enough.

zeus, Saturday, 5 March 2005 09:58 (twenty years ago)

Heard a couple of tracks of theirs today, and quite dug'em.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 19 March 2005 08:04 (twenty years ago)

shit

jmeister (jmeister), Saturday, 19 March 2005 08:10 (twenty years ago)

Rather than listen to some old stuff for the millionth time I played their album the other day and really liked it. The mix of dance and psychedelic rock elements felt organic and cohesive, not as collage-y as lot of things do these days.

But naming your band after one of Charlie Manson's henchwomen = DUD.

lovebug starski (lovebug starski), Saturday, 19 March 2005 12:22 (twenty years ago)

I was convinced by mr. seward's voice review to give them a try and i'm glad i did so. rock.

charles, Saturday, 19 March 2005 16:53 (twenty years ago)

I know I will play this album fairly often, and return to it.

I was in a debate about buying this one or the Razorlight one.

The raz, I always enjoy seeing them play on TV, but on radio they sound more like Tom Petty.

mark grout (mark grout), Saturday, 19 March 2005 19:16 (twenty years ago)

vacuous but arguably more listenable than XTRMNTR

miccio (miccio), Saturday, 19 March 2005 19:37 (twenty years ago)

arguably is right

Sven Bastard (blueski), Saturday, 19 March 2005 23:42 (twenty years ago)

I still have lots of love for XTRMNTR. I just watched the "Kill All Hippies" video again the other day - so great; the album cover truly come to life.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Saturday, 19 March 2005 23:55 (twenty years ago)

I definitely don't like anything on Kasabain as much as I do "Accelerator" or "Shoot Speed/Kill Light"

miccio (miccio), Sunday, 20 March 2005 00:06 (twenty years ago)

i prefer supreme love gods

dave q (listerine), Saturday, 19 August 2006 20:32 (nineteen years ago)

i think the ILM opinion is that they're shit.

personally, i rather like them. if "empire" isn't in my top 20 songs of the year, i'll be surprised.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Saturday, 19 August 2006 22:30 (nineteen years ago)

dude, someone claimed they were better than XTRMNTR?

wow.

They're one of those bands with one great song (Cutt Off) and a load of mediocre-to-unlistenable ones. At least they try and do something vaguely original with their SOUND, which evokes the dark, resigned apocalypse of a pulsating nightclub. Shame about the songwriting, though.

Scourage (Haberdager), Saturday, 19 August 2006 22:39 (nineteen years ago)

apparently they think Keane are "a bunch of students". how fucking cool.

Ronan (Ronan), Saturday, 19 August 2006 23:21 (nineteen years ago)

Kasabian vs. Keane roughly equates to Kidderminster Harriers vs. Kettering Town, in my book.

Scourage (Haberdager), Saturday, 19 August 2006 23:25 (nineteen years ago)

The sound of one mouth yawning.

Pier Paolo Semolina (noodle vague), Saturday, 19 August 2006 23:45 (nineteen years ago)

"The sound of one youth morning" is actually a particularly apt way to describe Kasabian's music.

Scourage (Haberdager), Saturday, 19 August 2006 23:49 (nineteen years ago)

i caught a clip of them there on C4's coverage of the V festival. they were as dull as buggery, which surprised me, 'cos the last time i saw footage of them live they appeared to be rocking quite impressively.

still, the crowd appeared to be, as it were, going wild.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Saturday, 19 August 2006 23:51 (nineteen years ago)

the dark, resigned apocalypse of a pulsating nightclub

Come again?

jimnaseum - formalist rigour! (jimnaseum), Saturday, 19 August 2006 23:54 (nineteen years ago)

You know when a club night becomes so oppressive and decadent that it honestly does seem like the world is ending, as your senses blur amidst a haze of carnal oblivion?

That is evoked perfectly the sound of Kasabian, and it is their strongest selling-point. Like I said, all they needed was a decent songwriter and a bit of variation and they'd have written a decent first album.

Scourage (Haberdager), Saturday, 19 August 2006 23:59 (nineteen years ago)

all they needed was a decent songwriter ... and they'd have written a decent first album.

if my aunt had a dick she'd be my uncle.

Onimo (GerryNemo), Sunday, 20 August 2006 00:38 (nineteen years ago)

I do like "Empire" a lot. I'd like it even more if it had Mark E Smith circa 1985 singing over the instrumental.

Clumsy Colin in ACTION BIKER (coach_mcguirk), Sunday, 20 August 2006 08:30 (nineteen years ago)

They're weak Sy ripoff crap. Annoyingly a guy I know and like at work likes them and hates Sy, which is fuckin dumb

A Viking of Some Note (Andrew Thames), Sunday, 20 August 2006 09:23 (nineteen years ago)

To be fair they have got one good tune. It's "Just".

Pier Paolo Semolina (noodle vague), Sunday, 20 August 2006 09:51 (nineteen years ago)

some of the stuff on the kasabian self-titled is pretty, but it's an album that's 10 years too late

Charlie Howard (the sphinx), Sunday, 20 August 2006 10:30 (nineteen years ago)

i haven't heard the record - but they have an excruciatingly boring live show, I'll say that much

Stephen Bush (Stephen B.), Sunday, 20 August 2006 10:57 (nineteen years ago)

I can imagine. As I keep saying, the record stands out for its production alone, and in a live setting this is of course mostly removed.

Scourage (Haberdager), Sunday, 20 August 2006 10:59 (nineteen years ago)

I really like the fuzz bass sound in their new single and hate myself for it.

leigh (leigh), Monday, 21 August 2006 10:54 (nineteen years ago)

So what? is the ILM opinion on Kasabian.

Konal Doddz (blueski), Monday, 21 August 2006 10:59 (nineteen years ago)

lol indie amirite is the ILM opinion on Kasabian.

Bashment Jakes (Enrique), Monday, 21 August 2006 11:00 (nineteen years ago)

i got the album yesterday. fucker took three goes to rip. i am genuinely looking forward to hearing it. mind you, i liked the last primal scream album too.

Onimo (GerryNemo), Monday, 21 August 2006 11:24 (nineteen years ago)

How have we gotten this far down the thread without mentioning PRIMAL SCREAM?

(oops, xxpost)

wogan lenin (dog latin), Monday, 21 August 2006 11:27 (nineteen years ago)

oh no, XTRMNTR's been mentioned a few times.

I guess if this kind of thing hadn't been done already by PRML SCRM, The Coral, The Beta Band, Lo-Fi Allstars, and a plethora of others throughout the late 90s then I'd think they were good. It's just frustrating that out of all the NME bunch of bands that are out there, they happen to be the most inventive (apart from maybe the Rakes who are just ridiculous in a funny way).

wogan lenin (dog latin), Monday, 21 August 2006 11:31 (nineteen years ago)

Lager rock round 45

Major Alfonso (Major Alfonso), Monday, 21 August 2006 12:03 (nineteen years ago)

Wow, I've never heard them before, but Playlouder's review is fucking brutal:

http://playlouder.co.uk/review/+empire/

Simon H. (Simon H.), Monday, 21 August 2006 13:22 (nineteen years ago)

lol playlouder amirite?

seriously, jesus wept.

Bashment Jakes (Enrique), Monday, 21 August 2006 13:24 (nineteen years ago)

Playlouder's OTM percentage is disappointing, so I'd take what they say with a pinch of salt.

Scourage (Haberdager), Monday, 21 August 2006 13:26 (nineteen years ago)

Generally, though not always, I agree with PL's reviews and I find their lack of pretension a little refreshing.

Simon H. (Simon H.), Monday, 21 August 2006 13:29 (nineteen years ago)

they can't write. that reviewer should have his fingers smashed.

Bashment Jakes (Enrique), Monday, 21 August 2006 13:30 (nineteen years ago)

Generally, though not always, I agree with PL's reviews and I find their lack of pretensionsub-Daniel Booth hackery a little refreshing.

Fixed.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Monday, 21 August 2006 13:31 (nineteen years ago)

So that's playlouder is it? What a bunch of BLAH!

mark grout (mark grout), Monday, 21 August 2006 13:41 (nineteen years ago)

that PL review is one of the worst pieces of writing i've seen in my entire life. good god.

the album, incidentally, is disappointing on a first listen. i've not heard it all the way through yet but it sounds depressingly like a case of all mouth and no trousers. i still love "empire" the song, but the rest of it sounds blustery and empty. still, i need more time with it before i can be sure.

(also, "glorious" by andreas johnson rules. but that's another discussion for another thread.)

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Monday, 21 August 2006 13:49 (nineteen years ago)

(no it doesnt)

mark grout (mark grout), Monday, 21 August 2006 13:50 (nineteen years ago)

"Kasabian are one such specimen that deserve no fornicatory action"

is, on second glance, one of the clumsiest sentences I've ever read.

Scourage (Haberdager), Monday, 21 August 2006 14:00 (nineteen years ago)

fornicatory action

Something to do with ants or anthills, amirite?

dud'Hab'c'Deva To You (With ReGard) (Dada), Monday, 21 August 2006 14:03 (nineteen years ago)

that would be formicatory. the review succeeds in making my skin crawl even without the use of ants, however.

latebloomer (latebloomer), Monday, 21 August 2006 14:25 (nineteen years ago)

Kasabian have never done anything approaching the boisterous fun of "Super Scooper & Mighty Scoop".

I fucking hate Kasabian, and like that PL review, just cos it hates them too.

Sick Mouthy (Nick Southall), Monday, 21 August 2006 14:26 (nineteen years ago)

Margaret Thatcher doesn't like Kasabian.

mark grout (mark grout), Monday, 21 August 2006 14:27 (nineteen years ago)

Bashment Jakes (Enrique), Monday, 21 August 2006 14:32 (nineteen years ago)

i was going to say "i really don't get all the kasabian hate round here", but to be honest i, umm, do. they really are a bunch of fannies, aren't they? the press release that comes with the album is SICKENING.

but "empire", the song, rocks bells, and that is my considered opinion.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Monday, 21 August 2006 14:37 (nineteen years ago)

This is 18 months old dude. Yet again I am ahead of the curve in hating.

Sick Mouthy (Nick Southall), Monday, 21 August 2006 14:41 (nineteen years ago)

Grimly, could you copy the PR into here please? I'd love a read.

Sick Mouthy (Nick Southall), Monday, 21 August 2006 14:46 (nineteen years ago)

"I'm a Chris Morris fan"

Regardless of what the rest of the article says, I am in total agreement with it. :-D

Scourage (Haberdager), Monday, 21 August 2006 14:53 (nineteen years ago)

Oh, and one thing that DOES get me about Kasabian is that so many reviewers chant the same carbon-copy bullsh about the album displaying 'what balls Kasabian have'. What a load of, more like. Their song structures and writing skills are not only severely limited but utterly cowardly into the bargain. Bands with real balls (this being Nick I shall bait his answer with Talk Talk) are dismissed by such cruddy reviewers as being 'wimpish' and 'pretentious', whereas to write a slightly dance-inflected 3-minute dollop of crud is suddenly the most daring thing a band can do in 2004. Heavens.

Scourage (Haberdager), Monday, 21 August 2006 15:08 (nineteen years ago)

Grimly, could you copy the PR into here please? I'd love a read.

i've only got a paper copy, and typing it in would make me vomit. i might share some of the choicer phrases; i'll see if my estimable colleague has an electronic version.

i could get it scanned, i suppose. hmm.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Monday, 21 August 2006 16:11 (nineteen years ago)

"This is 18 months old dude. Yet again I am ahead of the curve in hating."

tis true. you beat me by a month:

http://www.villagevoice.com/music/0510,seward,61834,22.html

(but i probably wrote my review in january!)

scott seward (scott seward), Monday, 21 August 2006 16:19 (nineteen years ago)

It's just occurred to me (well, it had kinda occurred to me before) than on ILM I can directly air my grievances for disagreeable reviews upon the perpetrators.

Fortunately, I've not found the lady who wrote the Popmatters Oceansize 'Effloresce' review, and she is STRICTLY first on my list. Although a brief word of admonishment for Nick for including over 100 exclamation marks in one Electric Soft Parade review. Honestly, Nick, there really isn't THAT much to get excited about that album, try The American Adventure for the real diamond. ;-)

Scourage (Haberdager), Monday, 21 August 2006 16:32 (nineteen years ago)

http://www.popmatters.com/music/reviews/o/oceansize-effloresce.shtml

There are so many inconsistencies, inaccuracies, assumptions and contradictions in this review that I don't even know where to begin. Even when she's PRAISING the album it's a mess.

Scourage (Haberdager), Monday, 21 August 2006 16:46 (nineteen years ago)

I can't summon up any emotion about Oceansize at all, but that is staggeringly badly written

DJ Mencap (DJ Mencap), Monday, 21 August 2006 17:26 (nineteen years ago)

that big hit of theirs (clubfoot) was one of the most popular songs blaring over the PAs and during game trailers at last E3. close second: that chemical bros. song w/q-tip from the beer commercial.

Scourage (Haberdager), Monday, 21 August 2006 19:11 (nineteen years ago)

Man, everybody loves that picture.

The !s were as an extended point about the band's over-fussy production, i.e. WHAT'S THIS COOL BUTTON OOOH REVERB OOOH USE IT THERE AND THERE AND THERE TOO etcetera.

Sick Mouthy (Nick Southall), Monday, 21 August 2006 20:19 (nineteen years ago)

I know, I know, just kidding! The review was quite an accurate portrayal of adolescent wonder "OMG WE HAVE A RECORD DEAL!!! OMG LET'S STICK FUNNY NOISES AT THE END OF THE ALBUM!!!" etc, although we're still at odds over 'Silent To The Dark'. You could always have a wank TO it...

Scourage (Haberdager), Monday, 21 August 2006 20:31 (nineteen years ago)

i've just managed to get the word "popinjays" into my review of this album. i'm giving it three stars, and they can consider themselves fucking lucky, to be frank. bitterly disappointing.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Tuesday, 22 August 2006 19:42 (nineteen years ago)

actually, fuck 'em, they get two stars. hah. that'll teach them to get my hopes up with a good single.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Monday, 28 August 2006 09:05 (nineteen years ago)

I saw Kasabian a year ago in Milan. After walking outside for a smoke I ran into the tour manager. Who said this to me, after I asked where they were headed to next: "all over Europe, then America, we've already conquered England. We'll be like the Beatles over there in another year"

Pretty pretentious like the lead singer. The 6'3" 120 pound guitarist is pretty cool though.

Mike M (FirstBass), Monday, 28 August 2006 12:42 (nineteen years ago)

Hopefully he meant 'never playing live again'

DJ Mencap (DJ Mencap), Monday, 28 August 2006 13:54 (nineteen years ago)

Being pretentious would've been a good idea [/dereksmalls]

Robot Conquest (noodle vague), Tuesday, 29 August 2006 22:39 (nineteen years ago)

kasabian is what happens when oasis records kid the more arrogant members of the subsequent generation that giving off, and buying a guitar is sufficient to render yourselves "genius". attitude conquers all, and regulation trousers are, well....regulation.

tedious beyond measure. tunes that will disappear in a fashion that will make manson seem as timeless as mozart. no, not marilyn manson. no, not shirley manson. no, not charlie manson. a band: called..."manson'. believe me, this is where kasabian will ultimately reside. and you will all deny you ever liked a single tune.

ho hum.

edger stewert (edger), Tuesday, 29 August 2006 23:52 (nineteen years ago)

a band called "manson'

You are stepping into dangerous waters. Please clarify.

Obvious Ninja (Haberdager), Tuesday, 29 August 2006 23:55 (nineteen years ago)

no. no dangerous waters. a band called "manson". their major single of note was "wide open space". and they have sunk into oblivion, as demonstrated by your query. but they were big news back in the mid nineties. and were a kind of proto-kasabian. rubbish beyond measure yet not exactly lacking in self belief.

edger stewert (edger), Tuesday, 29 August 2006 23:59 (nineteen years ago)

the truth hurts. mansun had a couple of better tunes than kasabian. that didn't save 'em from obscurity lane however.

but the inexorable feeling is of a band punching above their weight. in five years time humming a kasabian tune correctly will be a national sport of sorts.

we'll all fail btw. oh how did it go again...?

edger stewert (edger), Wednesday, 30 August 2006 00:22 (nineteen years ago)

kasabian ARE piss-weak.

you have, however, just insulted my favourite band on virtually no evidence, so i'm kinda miffed.

I mean, Edger has a point, in that Mansun are largely forgotten and disliked nowadays, but the words 'rubbish beyond measure' are still burning their way into my cornea.

Obvious Ninja (Haberdager), Wednesday, 30 August 2006 00:28 (nineteen years ago)

Louis offended by arguments with no evidence shockah

I Supersize Disaster (noodle vague), Wednesday, 30 August 2006 00:29 (nineteen years ago)

sorry. no personal offence intended. they just kinda remind me of each other. in a bravado sort of way.

i don't really care for mansun it's true, but the point i was trying to make is simply that at far too early a point in time they were tipped to enter the pantheon of great bands.

this reminds me of kasabian; who we seem to agree are cack.

hey, we can disagree about mansun tho hopefully?

edger stewert (edger), Wednesday, 30 August 2006 00:29 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, we're cool. I know that Mansun never became the musical force they should have done, releasing an album (Little Kix) easily as poor as anything Kasabian have written before splitting up. It's just that I personally hold their first two records in the highest esteem and am slightly angered that they're not really recognised so much nowadays. Fair enough if you don't like 'em, they're not everyone's bag. But do at least give 'six' a try if you haven't heard it yet. It is NOTHING like 'Wide Open Space'. :-)

xpost:oh yeah, forgot, punk is also rubbish beyond measure. happy now, NV? ;-)

p.s. have now found Never Mind The Bollocks again, shall re-appraise it. and buy Wire. etc.

Obvious Ninja (Haberdager), Wednesday, 30 August 2006 00:33 (nineteen years ago)

*should have been. Awful English. :(

Obvious Ninja (Haberdager), Wednesday, 30 August 2006 00:33 (nineteen years ago)

i will check back on "six". if i mention the cooper temple clause as another appropriate comparison will i get similiarly lambasted?

edger stewert (edger), Wednesday, 30 August 2006 00:37 (nineteen years ago)

Erm...if I told you that my sole contribution to 'Good artists that overlooked by Pitchfork (27 new answers)' was TCTC... :S

They're in a totally different league to Kasabian IMO, at least trying to do something original and exciting with their sound. And they're not forgotten. Yet.

Everybody, I am SORRY for my music taste, truly I am. :(

Obvious Ninja (Haberdager), Wednesday, 30 August 2006 00:39 (nineteen years ago)

they were somehow slightly better, but not by a great length. otm compariosn yeah.

bad hair day house (fandango), Wednesday, 30 August 2006 00:40 (nineteen years ago)

I DO see where you're coming from, though. They just happen to be bands I like (who are all very image-conscious, brash, and conscious of a need to 'experiment' with guitars).

Obvious Ninja (Haberdager), Wednesday, 30 August 2006 00:40 (nineteen years ago)

"DO see where you're coming from, though. They just happen to be bands I like (who are all very image-conscious, brash, and conscious of a need to 'experiment' with guitars)."

but dare i say not particularly inclined to experiment with writing a memorable tune.

i kind of guessed i might get a pasting for such comparisons but uk indie is littered with "next big things". it's not the band's fault as such and in some cases they are thrust into a place that they are never gonna be particularly comfortable occupying.

i think irritation arises (at least in my own case) when the band's in question aren't prepared to admit their discomfort but go along with it and encourage a level of expectation they are never capable of meeting.

i would propose that mansun, TCTC, and indeed kasabian probably know (or knew) they are (or were) not quite in the area in which they would be comfortable. the only way to react to this is often with unsubstantiated bravado.

this drives me up the effin wall.

edger stewert (edger), Wednesday, 30 August 2006 00:52 (nineteen years ago)

edger stewert (edger), Wednesday, 30 August 2006 00:57 (nineteen years ago)

Edger, I see what you mean, and in Kasabian's case I wholly support your every word. But I can think of some far worthier targets than TCTC or Mansun, who IMO not only wrote several extremely memorable tunes (I can probably hum you every single album track both bands have done so far) but more than lived up to expectations.

Hope Of The States, for instance. RIP (not) HAHAHAHA! Talk about effin' pretentious. They sound like GY!BE on a bad day trying to cover Coldplay. Argh.

edger stewert (edger), Wednesday, 30 August 2006 01:01 (nineteen years ago)

Mansun were only the next big things for one week in 1997, anyway, before they actually got good. Fortunately for us all, Gomez turned up to soak all the hype. And we know how THAT wound up. ;-)

yeah, goodnight. out of interest, d'ja think you could name a band we'd agree we both liked? :-)

Obvious Ninja (Haberdager), Wednesday, 30 August 2006 01:04 (nineteen years ago)

i dunno. shall we try the beta band?

edger stewert (edger), Wednesday, 30 August 2006 01:06 (nineteen years ago)

YES!!!!!!

And on that note, goodnight!

(I was gonna mention them, actually, as a hyped band who were brilliant, but decided that they were too good for this conversation.) Their s/t album is one of the most under-rated in rock history! It's Not Too Beautiful! OMG! The Cow's Wrong! I could go on all night! But I won't!

I'm so chuffed this ended up the way it has... :-)

This led a friend to post this:

I was at some festival walking by on my way to another stage, when I heard the absolute worst lyrics I ever heard, paired with shrunken arena rock. I had to stop to witness such a complete trainwreck--and then quickly went on my way. Sorry for the pain I'm about to cause

probably the worst lyrics ever written about Velociraptors

(these are the best:

We are now in the Cretaceous period
Looks like there's some dinosaurs approaching, fast!
Velociraptors velocirappin'
When we we run up, who knows what'll happen?
Velociraptors velocirappin'
Don't get too close or teeth'll start snappin'!
When it comes to dinosaurs, we are SMALL
6 feet long and 3 feet TALL
But our size doesn't matter at ALL
We're quick and speedy when it's time to BRAWL
Long, flat snout with a real strong JAW
Jagged teeth and a real sharp CLAW
When we eat food we like it RAW
Shimmy shimmy yam shimmy yay shimmy YAW
We look like birds, you may have GUESSED
Wе lay eggs inside a NEST
We'vе got feathers so we stay well-DRESSED
I'm king of the dinos, even I'm impressed
Long strong legs with lots of POWER
Runnin' 24 miles per HOUR
We don't want to eat that FLOWER
Give us meat, and we'll DEVOUR!
Velociraptors velocirappin'
When we run up, who knows what'll happen?
Velociraptors velocirappin'
Don't get too close or teeth'll start snappin'!
