I know there's probably been a thousand favorite band threads, but in this one you HAVE to limit it to two. No ties are allowed. If you can't decide, then don't post.

Slayer and Swervedriver.

MBV only misses cause I love absolutely EVERYTHING these two bands have done.

Johnny Badlees (crispssssss), Saturday, 9 April 2005 03:59 (twenty years ago)

I really need to listen to Slayer again. Maybe Sunday. But there's no hope, no matter how much I get into it after listening to them again, for them to be in my top two. Maybe top 15, top 20 at least.

Aja (aja), Saturday, 9 April 2005 04:07 (twenty years ago)

I really need to listen to Slayer again. Maybe Sunday

What a fitting day to play Slayer.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 9 April 2005 04:08 (twenty years ago)

Word em up Aja. Nice to see you a-GAIN. For Sunday Slayer listening: "Altar Of Sacrifice" and "Necrophiliac".

"Down to the fiery pits of HHHHHHEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!"

Johnny Badlees (crispssssss), Saturday, 9 April 2005 04:17 (twenty years ago)

Well, I would tomorrow, but I have a basketball game at 1pm, but it's going to take about an hour to get to the gym, so I have to take a shower early in the morning and wait for my grandma to give me my uniform. Then wait for the coach to pick me up and take me to the game. When I get home, I'm planning on doing my homework. Besides, by the time I get home, my mom will be home and I don't think she approves of me listening to Slayer.

Nice to see you again too, Johnny.

Aja (aja), Saturday, 9 April 2005 04:18 (twenty years ago)

And why not "Disciple" and "New Faith" too.

Johnny Badlees (crispssssss), Saturday, 9 April 2005 04:21 (twenty years ago)

I've got a little craving for "Piece by Piece" right now.

Aja (aja), Saturday, 9 April 2005 04:22 (twenty years ago)

Aja -- is Reign In Blood the only Slayer record you own?? Get Divine Intervention. Through and through, its just as good as Reign In Blood to my ears. Just as fast, just as raw, just as aggressive, just as hardcore.. And listen to Bostaph thumping the tubs on "Killing Fields" just once and you'll know he fit like a glove. To my ears, his drum parts worked better for Slayer songs anyway. Lombardo being more the jazz drummer he didn't seem to write TO the song the way Bostaph did.

And most folks will probably tell you I'm crazy but I think God Hates Us All is their best album yet. It may not be as fast a record as Reign or Divine but its definitely their most intense and aggressive - Slayer's best attributes since I first heard Reign. And they just keep getting better and better. I'm 'bout to go crazy waiting for the next record.

Johnny Badlees (crispssssss), Saturday, 9 April 2005 10:40 (twenty years ago)

radiohead + joy division

rizzx (rizzx), Saturday, 9 April 2005 10:43 (twenty years ago)

I actually prefer Undisputed Attitude.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 9 April 2005 10:43 (twenty years ago)

I love Undisputed Attitude too. Mainly cause most of the tunes were originally well-written but those bands were sloppy as fuck. And I can't stand sloppy heavy music. So hearing Slayer do Minor Threat is cool. Cause otherwise I'd never enjoy their tunes. I do like the original "I Don't Need Society" more though. I just love all the 80's DRI shat. I really love Slayer's version of that DI song "Spiritual Law" best though the original was terrible.

Johnny Badlees (crispssssss), Saturday, 9 April 2005 10:52 (twenty years ago)

uh... this week The English Beat and The Beta Band.

Unfortunatly, yes. Once my mom lets me get out of the house and explore the city on my own, I will buy more Slayer and anything else I think my mom will disapprove of. (heh heh)

Hard for me to do because I find it hard to objectively rank favorite bands cross genre. but I'll try...

Immolation

Death metal, but this act is one where, upon releasing a new album, I'm buying it on day one.

They have a very unique style, they aren't about balls to the wall riffing, but they create a very bleak atmosphere by creatively using dissonance, odd harmonics, and layers.

Certainly, they've stuck to their niche their entire career, but why not if you're good at it?

Pain of Salvation

The second act coulda been really one of 234, but this group has always managed to write music that is both challenging, emotionally engaging, and memorable at the same time.

Unfortunately, listening to The Perfect Element too much has burnt me out almost permanently on the album.
