My TOP 2-

Billy Idol- Mony, Mony
Modern English- I Melt With You

ZionTrain, Monday, 18 April 2005 14:25 (twenty years ago)

The Killers, "Mr. Brightside" (People who despise "Somebody Told Me" seem to like this one; in my opinion this is the wrong way around).

j.lu (j.lu), Monday, 18 April 2005 14:37 (twenty years ago)

No Women No Cry

Baaderonixxxorzh (Fabfunk), Monday, 18 April 2005 14:38 (twenty years ago)

Anything on Beck's "Sea Change."

Alfred Soto (Alfred Soto), Monday, 18 April 2005 14:40 (twenty years ago)

dry your fucking eyes by the fucking streets.

The Lex (The Lex), Monday, 18 April 2005 14:40 (twenty years ago)

Superpitcher's cover of "Baby's On Fire"

Schwip Schwap (schwip schwap), Monday, 18 April 2005 14:42 (twenty years ago)

Space Oddity

Baaderonixxxorzh (Fabfunk), Monday, 18 April 2005 14:42 (twenty years ago)

should i stay or should i go - the clash. just fuck off.

bg (creamolafoam), Monday, 18 April 2005 14:43 (twenty years ago)

Brown Eyed Girl and Mustang Sally.

dog latin (dog latin), Monday, 18 April 2005 14:43 (twenty years ago)

Patsy Cline - Crazy

The Sensational Sulk (sexyDancer), Monday, 18 April 2005 14:43 (twenty years ago)

Yeah "Brown Eyed Girl" too, esp as the Isley Bros have a 10000x better song w/the same title

Schwip Schwap (schwip schwap), Monday, 18 April 2005 14:44 (twenty years ago)

Donald Fagen's "I.G.Y.", apparently.

Deric W. Haircare (Deric W. Haircare), Monday, 18 April 2005 14:44 (twenty years ago)

everything by pearl jam -- b/c other people seem to like SOME pearl jam song, whilst i can't stand ANY of it.

Eisbär (llamasfur), Monday, 18 April 2005 14:45 (twenty years ago)

Black Betty

Baaderonixxxorzh (Fabfunk), Monday, 18 April 2005 14:45 (twenty years ago)

"The Day the Music Died (American Pie)" by Don Mc-fuckin' Clean.

Anything/everything by Destiny's Child and/or Beyonce.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 18 April 2005 14:46 (twenty years ago)

"She Don't Use Jelly" by Flaming Lips --- who, as a band, I've actually come to quite like, but that song makes me want to rip out all my hair and kill every fifth person I pass on the street.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 18 April 2005 14:48 (twenty years ago)

Pogues - Fairytale of New York

The Sensational Sulk (sexyDancer), Monday, 18 April 2005 14:53 (twenty years ago)

Missy Elliot singles a'plenty. I hate that I'm the only person I ever see cringing at her Fred-Durst-with-meatflaps "rhymes".

nickalicious (nickalicious), Monday, 18 April 2005 14:54 (twenty years ago)

"Yeah" by Usher

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 18 April 2005 14:54 (twenty years ago)

"fairytale of new york" - OTM! - made even more detestable by the thought that it's going to unavoidably come back, every fucking christmas, until i die. still, at least i now know i'm not alone in my loathing.

bg (creamolafoam), Monday, 18 April 2005 14:55 (twenty years ago)

Sisqo "Thong Song".

nickalicious (nickalicious), Monday, 18 April 2005 14:55 (twenty years ago)

Toxic.

Possibly the worst collection of queasy, attention grabbing, plain ugly sounds I've ever heard in the top 40 wrapped around an actually not-bad tune. If this is the point 'Toxic' geddit? then I missed it for a long time.

bleh, Monday, 18 April 2005 14:55 (twenty years ago)

"fairytale of new york"

You have no heart.

bleh, Monday, 18 April 2005 14:57 (twenty years ago)

i am the grinch, i admit.

bg (creamolafoam), Monday, 18 April 2005 14:58 (twenty years ago)

The only reason "Fairytale of New York" bugs me is that the Pogues had SO MANY FAR SUPERIOR SONGS, yet that's the only thing anyone every plays by them. It's their "Whip It", y'know?

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 18 April 2005 15:00 (twenty years ago)

My third choice would definately be "Brown Eyed Girl"! I loathe it so much it's was erased from memory till this thread.

ZionTrain, Monday, 18 April 2005 15:01 (twenty years ago)

Nick yr not alone on Missy, can't help w/Sisqo tho soz

Schwip Schwap (schwip schwap), Monday, 18 April 2005 15:03 (twenty years ago)

The Killers, "Mr. Brightside" (People who despise "Somebody Told Me" seem to like this one; in my opinion this is the wrong way around).
-- j.lu (jlut...), April 18th, 2005.

i can't believe that because as soon as i saw the thread title, 'somebody told me' popped straight to mind.

piscesboy, Monday, 18 April 2005 15:03 (twenty years ago)

"river deep, mountain high"
anything by franz ferdinand

Eisbär (llamasfur), Monday, 18 April 2005 15:04 (twenty years ago)

If you don't like "River Deep Mountain High" yr a sick fuck

Schwip Schwap (schwip schwap), Monday, 18 April 2005 15:05 (twenty years ago)

'hey 19'

mookieproof (mookieproof), Monday, 18 April 2005 15:07 (twenty years ago)

I hate "Somebody Told Me" soooooooo much.

Open your eyes; you can fly! (ex machina), Monday, 18 April 2005 15:08 (twenty years ago)

"Uncle John's Band", "Fire on the Mountain", "Franklin's Tower" and pretty much any reasonably well-known track by the Grateful Dead. I didn't really have anything against the Grateful Dead (apart from being smelly hippies) until I got to college, where they seemed to be de rigeur listening by tobacco-chewin' frat schmucks in BMW's. As such, this music became inescapable and synonymous with idiotic dingbattery of a most vile kind. These type of guys (the same ones who champion DMB today) made the hippies look respectable.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 18 April 2005 15:09 (twenty years ago)

I thought I was the only one that hated "Yeah" (Alex in NY beat me to it...)
In that case, I'll go for "Get Low"

paulhw (paulhw), Monday, 18 April 2005 15:09 (twenty years ago)

"Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head"

I've hated that song since I was a little kid.

earlnash, Monday, 18 April 2005 15:09 (twenty years ago)

Brown Eyed Girl and Mustang Sally.

dl, you must have missed recentish threads where both of these were rounded upon. In particular, I don't think a single person could be found to stick up for Mustang Sally. I like Brown Eyed Girl myself.

Alba (Alba), Monday, 18 April 2005 15:11 (twenty years ago)

hey alex, there are LOTS of dead haters -- here and IRL.

and "river deep, mountain high" = the BIGGEST instance of "so the fuck WHAT?!?" EVAH.

Eisbär (llamasfur), Monday, 18 April 2005 15:18 (twenty years ago)

"Bohemian Rhapsody" Queen

m coleman (lovebug starski), Monday, 18 April 2005 15:18 (twenty years ago)

Wait a minute - you can't have missed it, dog latin - it was your thread.

Alba (Alba), Monday, 18 April 2005 15:19 (twenty years ago)

I heard "It's My Turn" by Diana fuckin' Ross while attempting to shop for blue jeans yesterday...AND HAD TO LEAVE THE STORE AT ONCE TO GET AWAY FROM IT

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 18 April 2005 15:19 (twenty years ago)

Every recent cover version by a German techno or house act. Though loathing may be a little too harsh.

$V£N! (blueski), Monday, 18 April 2005 15:20 (twenty years ago)

Vitalic's 'Riders On A Storm' is ace tho

$V£N! (blueski), Monday, 18 April 2005 15:20 (twenty years ago)

What point was "RDMH" making so stridently, Eisbar? "I AM A SONG!"?

Schwip Schwap (schwip schwap), Monday, 18 April 2005 15:20 (twenty years ago)

"I FEATURE LYRICS OF LOVE PUNY LISTENERS"

Schwip Schwap (schwip schwap), Monday, 18 April 2005 15:21 (twenty years ago)

'Mustang Sally' does not offend me.

$V£N! (blueski), Monday, 18 April 2005 15:21 (twenty years ago)

I heard a version of "Strawberry Letter 23" (one of my absolute favorite songs ever written, bar none) done by ROD STOMACH-PUMPING STEWART at the grocery store on Saturday. Every thing about it was so wrong. I'm sure other people would hate it too, had they heard it, so I guess this has no place here, but Jesus fucking Christ, I've never heard such a good song so ruined.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Monday, 18 April 2005 15:22 (twenty years ago)

"Hunted By A Freak."

Organized Crime (Leee), Monday, 18 April 2005 15:23 (twenty years ago)

"RDMH" reminds me of that classic Horace quote: "Mountains will go into labour, and a silly little mouse will be born."

Eisbär (llamasfur), Monday, 18 April 2005 15:24 (twenty years ago)

"maggie may," "you wear it well," or any of rod stewart's other "good" songs -- he only got GOOD when he went disco and started getting his cock sucked by disco dollies.

Eisbär (llamasfur), Monday, 18 April 2005 15:25 (twenty years ago)

I am steeling reeling from nickalicious's description of Missy Elliott as 'Fred Durst with meatflaps'. wtf?

Alba (Alba), Monday, 18 April 2005 15:25 (twenty years ago)

"Candy Girl" be New Edition....which prompts a reaction in me not unlike an outtake from "Scanners"

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 18 April 2005 15:27 (twenty years ago)

Cant get you out of my head, kylie. Absolutely sucktastic.

Masked Gazza, Monday, 18 April 2005 15:27 (twenty years ago)

She's quite butch, Alba. Ok Eisbar sorry, I get you now.

Schwip Schwap (schwip schwap), Monday, 18 April 2005 15:28 (twenty years ago)

pink floyd - wish you were here

AaronK (AaronK), Monday, 18 April 2005 15:29 (twenty years ago)

I wasn't really trying to describe Missy per se (I actually think she's funny and pretty), so much as her lyrical style (which astounds me as not to be generally accepted as "retarded").

nickalicious (nickalicious), Monday, 18 April 2005 15:30 (twenty years ago)

mustang sally by wilson pickett is great wtf people

Masked Gazza, Monday, 18 April 2005 15:32 (twenty years ago)

I blame "the Committments" for the sullying of all those classic r'n'b/soul tracks. I can't hear any of that stuff without thinking of that fucking movie, and its legions of fawning idiotic fans.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 18 April 2005 15:33 (twenty years ago)

Ah I've never seen it
Thank god

Masked Gazza, Monday, 18 April 2005 15:34 (twenty years ago)

I blame "the Committments" for the sullying of all those classic r'n'b/soul tracks. I can't hear any of that stuff without thinking of that fucking movie, and its legions of fawning idiotic fans.

shit, i blame the blues brothers for that!

Eisbär (llamasfur), Monday, 18 April 2005 15:35 (twenty years ago)

speaking of which, i have NEVER understood the appeal of the blues brothers movie.

Eisbär (llamasfur), Monday, 18 April 2005 15:36 (twenty years ago)

Do you love cops

Schwip Schwap (schwip schwap), Monday, 18 April 2005 15:38 (twenty years ago)

"The Blues Brothers", "The Committments" and ....ugh...."The Big Chill" are all guilty of schilling pre-pakaged nostalgia. Fuck all that stuff.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 18 April 2005 15:38 (twenty years ago)

xpost
Aretha
JB
Ray
Cab

There.

Masked Gazza, Monday, 18 April 2005 15:38 (twenty years ago)

"The Blues Brothers", "The Committments" and ....ugh...."The Big Chill" are all guilty of schilling pre-pakaged nostalgia. Fuck all that stuff.

true dat -- but what are the teenyboppers gonna say about the soundtrack to "pretty in pink"?!?

Eisbär (llamasfur), Monday, 18 April 2005 15:39 (twenty years ago)

I hate Illinois Nazis.

The Sensational Sulk (sexyDancer), Monday, 18 April 2005 15:40 (twenty years ago)

Well, at least "Pretty in Pink" was boasting the music of its own era.

"The Commitments", "the Blues Brothers" and "The Big Chill" were all about nostalgia....watching a gaggle of withering baby boomers frugging around the kitchen to the strains of Three Dog Night et al. I'd rather someone fired a bazooka at my face from point blank range.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 18 April 2005 15:42 (twenty years ago)

People frug about to the Smiths on this very site!

Schwip Schwap (schwip schwap), Monday, 18 April 2005 15:46 (twenty years ago)

I hate Bloc Party.

Roz, Monday, 18 April 2005 15:49 (twenty years ago)

Anything and everything related to Murder Inc, Ja Rule or Ashanti, especially "Happy" and "I'm Real"

"What I Am" - Edie Brickell & The New Bohemians
"Lady Marmalade" - Xtina, Pink, Mya, LilKim & Missy
"American Pie" - Don Mclean
"The Devil Went Down To Georgia" - Charlie Daniels Band

"The Big Chill" are all guilty of schilling pre-pakaged nostalgia. Fuck all that stuff.

I've been trying to figure out why I hate this movie so much, but you pretty much just summed it up for me.

billstevejim, Monday, 18 April 2005 15:52 (twenty years ago)

Alex OTM. The Big Chill turned the Motown sound into a dudly cliche. And that takes some doing.

m coleman (lovebug starski), Monday, 18 April 2005 15:54 (twenty years ago)

And I hate "Toxic."

billstevejim, Monday, 18 April 2005 15:55 (twenty years ago)

LCD Soundsytem - Losing My Edge.

jel -- (jel), Monday, 18 April 2005 15:56 (twenty years ago)

Dee-Lite - Groove is in the Heart.

jel -- (jel), Monday, 18 April 2005 15:57 (twenty years ago)

dude, alex and bill - you are NOT the only ones who hate "american pie". there are others. bill, i also share your hatred for "devil went down to georgia". sorry, i love "toxic".

peter smith (plsmith), Monday, 18 April 2005 15:59 (twenty years ago)

Anything and everything related to Murder Inc, Ja Rule or Ashanti, especially "Happy" and "I'm Real"

you've gotta LOTTA company there, actually -- including 50 cent.

Eisbär (llamasfur), Monday, 18 April 2005 15:59 (twenty years ago)

Even i like "Toxic".

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 18 April 2005 16:00 (twenty years ago)

"Anarchy In The UK"
"God Save The Queen"

mike a, Monday, 18 April 2005 16:01 (twenty years ago)

Modern English- I Melt With You
I know someone who loathes it, too.

For some reason I don't like The Chameleons - "Up the Down Escalator" at all. I'm sure that's tantamount to blasphemy.

Yet again, I've still never heard "Toxic".

Ian Riese-Moraine. To Hell with you and your gradual evolution! (Eastern Mantra), Monday, 18 April 2005 16:01 (twenty years ago)

you've gotta LOTTA company there, actually -- including 50 cent.

Okay, forget I said Murder Inc.

billstevejim, Monday, 18 April 2005 16:02 (twenty years ago)

You're not alone on:
Billy Idol- Mony, Mony
and American Pie by Don Mcclain

But am I the only one who thinks "House of the Rising Sun" by the Animals (in fact, pretty much everything by the Animals), "Riders on the Storm" by the Doors (in fact, pretty much everything by the Doors)
is the shit without the "the"???

peepee (peepee), Monday, 18 April 2005 16:05 (twenty years ago)

In all fairness, I do enjoy the Local H version of "Toxic." The Britney version is undoubtedly her most soulless production to date, which is saying a lot for her.

I used to hate "Riders On The Storm" like 5 years ago.

billstevejim, Monday, 18 April 2005 16:06 (twenty years ago)

at first i was like "the bravery" but then i was all like, i don't think anybody likes them...

katie, a princess (katie, a princess), Monday, 18 April 2005 16:06 (twenty years ago)

At the risk of a life in exile: "Born to Run"

marc h., Monday, 18 April 2005 16:09 (twenty years ago)

It's good but the orig Spector (esp say RIVER DEEP, MOUNTAIN HIGH"!!!!!) is so much better it's stupid

Schwip Schwap (schwip schwap), Monday, 18 April 2005 16:12 (twenty years ago)

That one Jethro Tull song with the fucking tiger growling and shit in it. I'm sure I know the name but am specifically blocking it out.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Monday, 18 April 2005 16:14 (twenty years ago)

"bungle in the jungle." and i hate it, too, nickalicious.

Eisbär (llamasfur), Monday, 18 April 2005 16:14 (twenty years ago)

I hate it based on the title alone

Schwip Schwap (schwip schwap), Monday, 18 April 2005 16:15 (twenty years ago)

Billy Idol- Mony, Mony
Modern English- I Melt With You
...
Modern English- I Melt With You
I know someone who loathes it, too.
...
You're not alone on:
Billy Idol- Mony, Mony

I thought everyone hated Mony Mony.
And I've said many times that I Melt With You is the new wave equivalent of Stairway to Heaven.

dave225 (Dave225), Monday, 18 April 2005 16:16 (twenty years ago)

"dancing queen" though i think there might be others (masonic boom iirc) who hate this song. and i wouldn't loathe it as much if i hadn't been exposed to this crap many many times during my teenage years. and i used to love abba before.

alex in mainhattan (alex63), Monday, 18 April 2005 16:19 (twenty years ago)

Guns N' Roses - Welcome To The Jungle

zeus, Monday, 18 April 2005 16:20 (twenty years ago)

A good friend of mine sings and plays guitar solo in restaurants and bars in a resort town. (He's also played original R&R for many years). A human jukebox. He was complaining to me recently about the requests he gets, citing "Brown Eyed Girl" as a song he a)never thought he'd be reduced to singing in public and b)would prefer to never hear again the rest of his life.

"But I drew the line at that fucking 'American Pie,' I hate it and there's way too many lyrics to remember." Until the night a colleague came bursting in during one of his gigs.

"My friend says 'some guy gave me $50 to sing "American Pie" tonight'and so later that night I went right onto the Internet and printed out the lyrics." I should've asked if he knew "Toxic."

m coleman (lovebug starski), Monday, 18 April 2005 16:20 (twenty years ago)

"Ignition (Remix)"

Yeah, I know, I know.

Eppy (Eppy), Monday, 18 April 2005 16:21 (twenty years ago)

In sort of an opposite thing to this thread's intent, I over the weekend heard the G. Love album Yeah, It's That Easy for the first time since I was seventeen. I realized A) everybody hates the shit out of G. Love, B) based on most of his music, I understand why, and C) that album is one of the greatest fucking things anyone's ever done.

Albums That I Feel Alone In My Loving Of...

nickalicious (nickalicious), Monday, 18 April 2005 16:22 (twenty years ago)

Er, since I was nineteen. I'm not sure what happened in the ol' noggin that I typed seventeen.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Monday, 18 April 2005 16:23 (twenty years ago)

i don't mind "brown eyed girl." the van morrison songs that i can't stand are anything after "moondance." esp. "wild nights."

Eisbär (llamasfur), Monday, 18 April 2005 16:23 (twenty years ago)

Hey Eppy!!
I just wanted to write Ignition, so you are not alone!

!!! - Me and Giuliani...

zeus, Monday, 18 April 2005 16:23 (twenty years ago)

I'm going to take back my "Toxic" remarks because "loathe" should equal somewhere in the low 1's, wheras "Toxic" I would probably give a 3 out of 10. It's pretty bad, but not the worst thing ever. But no one else agrees with me on that opinion, which is why I felt compelled to include it.

billstevejim, Monday, 18 April 2005 16:24 (twenty years ago)

yeah, EVERYONE hates g. love, except for writers in philly alt-weekly rags.

Eisbär (llamasfur), Monday, 18 April 2005 16:24 (twenty years ago)

50 Cent - In Da Club

zeus, Monday, 18 April 2005 16:27 (twenty years ago)

penny lane and most of abbey road
billy jean
james taylor and cat steven make me physically ill (but i think i somehow relate them to places like dentists waiting rooms).
welcome to the jungle

i've come around on LCD in general, but still can't get into yeah.

i don't buy the decemberists or elliot smith.

b b, Monday, 18 April 2005 16:30 (twenty years ago)

"Groove is in the heart" seconded

Madonna - "Vogue"

daavid (daavid), Monday, 18 April 2005 16:33 (twenty years ago)

dude, NOBODY likes "vogue."

Eisbär (llamasfur), Monday, 18 April 2005 16:37 (twenty years ago)

Really? I remember it did well on the ILM 90s tracks poll

daavid (daavid), Monday, 18 April 2005 16:40 (twenty years ago)

Most of these songs have plenty of hate to go around, or apathy at best.

I have never really liked:
Led Zeppelin - Heartbreaker
Joy Division - Colony

..

dave225 (Dave225), Monday, 18 April 2005 16:40 (twenty years ago)

Amerie, "1 Thing." At first I thought it was merely bleh but further listenings inspired by its inexplicable championing on various respectable blogger's single lists have made me realize...just...ugh...annoying as fuck. so annoying.

miccio (miccio), Monday, 18 April 2005 16:45 (twenty years ago)

Anything by Madonna that isn't "Like a Prayer."

Also, Joy Division's "Love Will Tear Us Apart." Can't stand the vocals on that one.

jason., Monday, 18 April 2005 17:06 (twenty years ago)

Stuck In The Middle With You by Stealers Wheel. Piss off, sub-dylan CRAP!

musicjohn73 (musicjohn73), Monday, 18 April 2005 17:27 (twenty years ago)

Anything by N.E.R.D. They S.U.C.K. so bad I could V.O.M.I.T. whenever I hear them.

kornrulez6969 (TCBeing), Monday, 18 April 2005 17:35 (twenty years ago)

"Toxic." The Britney version is undoubtedly her most soulless production to date, which is saying a lot for her.

I think what I like most about "Toxic" is that Britney's barely on it at all.

I'll second "In Da Club" by 50 Cent.....which is just a runny, punctured, colostomy bag of awful!

Anything by N.E.R.D. They S.U.C.K. so bad I could V.O.M.I.T. whenever I hear them.

O.T.M.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 18 April 2005 17:36 (twenty years ago)

you realize that yer agreeing w/ a KORN fan, alex?!?

Eisbär (llamasfur), Monday, 18 April 2005 17:40 (twenty years ago)

fucking "Broken Wings" apparently.

Alfred Soto (Alfred Soto), Monday, 18 April 2005 17:51 (twenty years ago)

I coulda swore you liked NERD's "Rock Star", Alex!

nickalicious (nickalicious), Monday, 18 April 2005 17:53 (twenty years ago)

I never need to hear "Respect" by Aretha Franklin ever again. Ever.

And I really hate the Aerosmith song from that asteroid movie, "I Don't Wanna Miss a Thing."

Lyra Jane (Lyra Jane), Monday, 18 April 2005 18:05 (twenty years ago)

I coulda swore you liked NERD's "Rock Star", Alex!

Wait -- shit, you're right. Is that the one with the "almost over now" refrain? Shit, I do like that. Apologies. I can't stand the ass-as-spaceship tune, though. That's dire crap.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 18 April 2005 18:06 (twenty years ago)

"loathing" might be too strong a word, but I actively dislike nearly every Beach Boys song, mostly due to the arrangements/production/performing style.

Paul in Santa Cruz (Paul in Santa Cruz), Monday, 18 April 2005 18:15 (twenty years ago)

Trust me Alex, you are FAR from alone w/r/t that Usher song! Air-raid sirens are far easier on the ears.

Myonga Von Bontee (Myonga Von Bontee), Monday, 18 April 2005 18:36 (twenty years ago)

I actively dislike nearly every Beach Boys song, mostly due to the arrangements/production/performing style.

There are a few I can stand, but mostly I think their music is way too pretty for my tastes. Not candy-coated so much as boring and soft.

Lyra Jane (Lyra Jane), Monday, 18 April 2005 18:40 (twenty years ago)

"Waitin' For a Superman" - and I love, love, love the Lips & The Soft Bulletin is one of my all-time faves. But that song, it just kind of sucks. Wayne Coyne is typically a deft straddler of the impassioned/ cloying fine line, but on that one he veers dangerously into the territory of the latter.

Yngwie AlmsteenMay (sgertz), Monday, 18 April 2005 18:46 (twenty years ago)

LOSE YOURSELF (god this tune sucks, and I *do* like 'Stan' a lot)
Yeah (Usher)
In Da Club
Milkshake
Bittersweet Symphony
Loser (Beck)
Wonderwall
Enter Sandman
The Humpty Dance

Keith C (kcraw916), Monday, 18 April 2005 19:10 (twenty years ago)

"like a rolling stone"

Eisbär (llamasfur), Monday, 18 April 2005 19:11 (twenty years ago)

haha I enjoy "Bungle In the Jungle" but it can't be that universally loved! I usually feel alone in having anything good to say about Jethro Tull.

Sundar (sundar), Monday, 18 April 2005 19:37 (twenty years ago)

Paradise by the Dashboard Light - Meatloaf (this song makes me want to stick a fork in my stomach)
Rainy Day Women #12 & 35 - Dylan
Dude Looks Like a Lady - Aerosmith (cringing as I type)
Cheeseburger In Paradise - Jimmy Buffet

Pink Moon - Nick Drake

latebloomer: strawman knockdowner (latebloomer), Monday, 18 April 2005 19:52 (twenty years ago)

How can anyone feel alone in loathing Aerosmith, Meatloaf, and Jimmy Buffett?

Ian Riese-Moraine. To Hell with you and your gradual evolution! (Eastern Mantra), Monday, 18 April 2005 19:53 (twenty years ago)

hatred with qualifiers thread turning into just plain hatred thread total non shockah.

The Sensational Sulk (sexyDancer), Monday, 18 April 2005 19:54 (twenty years ago)

Percy Sledge's "When A Man Loves A Woman". I don't know what it is aboot this song, but it's total "nails on a blackboard" to me.

Vic Funk, Monday, 18 April 2005 19:56 (twenty years ago)

"Wonderwall"?? that "Lady Marmalade" remake?? I know TONS of people that hate those songs!! YOU PEOPLE ARE NOT TRYING HARD ENOUGH!!

I vote for "Stop in the Name of Love"

Mr. Snrub (Mr. Snrub), Monday, 18 April 2005 21:47 (twenty years ago)

Madonna - "Like a Prayer"

In fact I don't like anything Madonna heas released since that album. And I don't like any Depeche Mode since Violator.

daavid (daavid), Monday, 18 April 2005 21:52 (twenty years ago)

I'll go along with "Like a Prayer" -- it's hailed as someone huge artistic breakthrough, but the lyrics are pathetic, the video embarassing and the whole operation is lamentable.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 18 April 2005 21:57 (twenty years ago)

Led Zeppelin - "Black Dog"
The Beatles - "A day in the life"

daavid (daavid), Monday, 18 April 2005 22:00 (twenty years ago)

"Hey Ya"

I actually don't know why I don't like this.

Aja (aja), Monday, 18 April 2005 22:08 (twenty years ago)

b/c you don't like rap?

Eisbär (llamasfur), Monday, 18 April 2005 22:27 (twenty years ago)

"Hey Ya" is less rap than most rap :-)

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Monday, 18 April 2005 22:28 (twenty years ago)

geir, i am POSITIVE that you could fill this thread w/ songs that YOU dislike that everyone else likes.

Eisbär (llamasfur), Monday, 18 April 2005 22:30 (twenty years ago)

Eisbar, you're right about my not liking rap, but Geir is also right. So, I'm "back to square one".

Ha- Killing Joke lyric!

Aja (aja), Monday, 18 April 2005 22:30 (twenty years ago)

geir, i am POSITIVE that you could fill this thread w/ songs that YOU dislike that everyone else likes.

On ILM, yes. There's a lot of really hostile hatred towards anything rap and anything contemporary R&B out there though. Some of it downright rascist, some of it purely musically based.

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Monday, 18 April 2005 22:32 (twenty years ago)

No Doubt - pretty much anything by them, and another vote for "American Pie"

krimur (louizah), Tuesday, 19 April 2005 16:35 (twenty years ago)

Waitin' For a Superman
The Kinks - "(Wish I Could Fly Like) Superman." In fact, pretty much anything off that album.

Ken L (Ken L), Tuesday, 19 April 2005 16:43 (twenty years ago)

i'll meet your No Doubt and raise you one "Rich Girl" by Gwen.

Fetchboy (Felcher), Tuesday, 19 April 2005 16:51 (twenty years ago)

Madonna - "Cherish"

I absolutely detest this song.

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 19 April 2005 16:52 (twenty years ago)

even the Loop Guru cover?

Fetchboy (Felcher), Tuesday, 19 April 2005 17:16 (twenty years ago)

Madonna - "Crazy for You". Can't stand it. Which is weird because the number of Madonna singles I don't like can probably be counted on one hand.

Vinnie (vprabhu), Tuesday, 19 April 2005 18:00 (twenty years ago)

Snoop "Drop it like its hot"

Come hate with me!

tipustiger, Tuesday, 19 April 2005 18:34 (twenty years ago)

Madonna - "Crazy for You". Can't stand it. Which is weird because the number of Madonna singles I don't like can probably be counted on one hand.

Ugh. Seconded. What a saccharine dollop of crap.

FWIW, I think "Hey Ya" fuckin' ROXOROX!

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Tuesday, 19 April 2005 22:45 (twenty years ago)

i pretty much loathe anything by Lauryn Hill, Beck, No Doubt

to a lesser degree - The Love Below/Speakerboxx album, Broken Social Scene, and TV on the Radio

Susan Douglas (Susan Douglas), Tuesday, 19 April 2005 23:11 (twenty years ago)

Make sure you loathe these songs please, meaning like, they would make your worst 100 songs ever list. I feel like some people are just putting songs that they personally think are overrated.

billstevejim, Wednesday, 20 April 2005 00:30 (twenty years ago)

all beck still makes the list

Susan Douglas (Susan Douglas), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 00:36 (twenty years ago)

i have never liked "come together" by the beatles. no problem with them otherwise, but that song. gruh.

joseph (joseph), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 01:38 (twenty years ago)

g love and special sauce

sade lovers rock

the other day i was thinking about how sade sounds so good on the smooth jazz radio format, and how almost everybody i have ever known likes sade and yet badmouths smooth jazz/ 'elevator music'

i think i really hate citizen cope even though i've never heard him (?) or have any idea what kind of music it is. but i imagine it's like that everlast song. but even if it's not, i think i still hate it

i don't like ben harper

oh god i'm in my 30's (ronny longjohns), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 02:01 (twenty years ago)

Pretty sure I'm one of the very few who hates "Sexual Healing".

(Maybe "hates" is too extreme - if it weren't way-overplayed I'd merely "dislike" it. Tho still quite a bit.)

Myonga Von Bontee (Myonga Von Bontee), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 02:21 (twenty years ago)

Hey, Mickey.

Zed Szetlian (Finn MacCool), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 02:27 (twenty years ago)

alone in loathing? I am not sure about that, but the Kinks' "Celluloid Heroes" and their "Jukebox Music" make my skin crawl. And I generally like the Kinks.

"Angie" by the Stones.

"Dreamer" by Supertramp gives me the willies.

And of course, "My Life" by Billy Joel. But these seem like obvious and somewhat widespread if not universal choices, to me anyway.

I love Lee Dorsey, immoderately, but the use of "Working in the Coalmine" by Wal-Mart with their fucking mutant smiley roll-back-the-price faces has queered that one for me, I am pained to say.

edd s hurt (ddduncan), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 02:30 (twenty years ago)

Katrina and the Waves, Walking on Sunshine

it makes me very cranky.

Kim (Kim), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 02:38 (twenty years ago)

Wow, I agree with a lot of these -- American Pie, Anarchy in the UK, Should I Stay or Should I Go, Brown Eyed Girl, etc. And to think people feel alone in their hatred.

Others I'd add:

Anything by The Smiths.
Anything by 50 Cent other than In Da Club.

Hurting (Hurting), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 02:50 (twenty years ago)

Katrina and the Waves, Walking on Sunshine
Really can't stand it either. In fact, the only way I can take that group is second-hand, through the Bangles cover of "Going Down To Liverpool."

Ken L (Ken L), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 11:33 (twenty years ago)

g love and special sauce

Hahahaha way to aim high there!

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 12:22 (twenty years ago)

All the songs where Pharrel sings.

Hurting (Hurting), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 13:42 (twenty years ago)

i'm telling you dan, lots of my friends were into it and it was distressing but now i don't feel alone anymore!

ronny longjohns (ronny longjohns), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 14:03 (twenty years ago)

The only song I don't like on Catherine Wheel's Chrome is "Pain" because it sounds like a damn football anthem. I can see clips of quarterbacks being sacked in my head when I play it.

Ian Riese-Moraine. To Hell with you and your gradual evolution! (Eastern Mantra), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 15:56 (twenty years ago)

Mellow Gold, apparently!

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 16:51 (twenty years ago)

Everything Jennifer Lopez has ever done. I loathe it. Every last little note.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 16:52 (twenty years ago)

Basement Jaxx - "Good Luck"
Playgroup - "Number One"

Bombastic soul cliches with clumsy, tin-eared choruses. Both are must-skip first tracks on albums that have some good stuff by artists I usually like but feel alone in not worshipping.

Curt (cgould), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 18:46 (twenty years ago)

xpost: you honestly think you're alone in this regard???

The Sensational Sulk (sexyDancer), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 18:51 (twenty years ago)

I think I'm alone now. There doesn't seem to be anyone around.

I absolutely detest "Slow Motion". You know the one. It makes me involuntarily cringe...everyone else loves it though.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 19:14 (twenty years ago)

"Baby Got Back" is one of the most sonically offensive things I've ever heard passed off as pop music. "Sexual Healing" is right behind it.

And before anyone throws "you hate black people singing about sex" at me, I think "Rumpshaker" and "Let's Get It On" are both phenomenal.

The Good Dr. Bill (The Good Dr. Bill), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 19:18 (twenty years ago)

Basement Jaxx, Red Alert. dreadful

Jaunty Alan (Alan), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 19:43 (twenty years ago)

xpost: you honestly think you're alone in this regard???

Maybe I'm not alone re: loathing Jennifer Lopez, but I don't see NEARLY as much frothing hatred for her as -- to my mind -- there should be.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 23:57 (twenty years ago)

I'd like to second the Animals "House Of The Rising Sun".

The Silent Disco of Glastonbury (Bimble...), Thursday, 21 April 2005 02:51 (twenty years ago)

"Groove is in the heart"

I cannot explain why i hate it so much; I have no fucking clue why anyone would like it.

lundy fastnet irish sea (cis), Thursday, 21 April 2005 05:16 (twenty years ago)

That's because I just threw up my hands a long time ago.
