Apologies if I've got this in the wrong category...

Anyways! The site is up now for the Juan MacLean album, Less Than Human, coming out July 4:

Not much interesting yet, aside from album clips- and unfortunately the clips are about 30 seconds each, and not most of the track like on the LCD Soundsystem site. Bah. Still anticipating this one quite heavily, especially since there are a couple more tracks with Nancy Whang vocals as on "You Can't Have It Both Ways."

And on a kinda related note, does anyone have Six Finger Satellite recommendations? I'm digging Paranormalized very much and I'm curious where to go next.

i didn't really think much of this project when the DFA were getting rolling but now i'm coming around. this album really does sound like it's going to be great. i think "i, robot" was the track that really made me come around.

the last three tracks sound particularly awesome. and the texts that accompany the tracks on that radio thingy are raw and awesome in a denis johnson sort of way.

Paranormalized is kind of disappointing.. Severe Exposure is the one I'd pick but I am lazy and have a short attention span and a really puerile sense of humor (search.. "Board the Bus"). Law of Ruins is probably their best, actually.

There are two different sites on Sub Pop...one to promote Paranormalized, one for Law of Ruins.

And oddly enough, Sub Pop are still selling the albums (for $10 a pop), even though they're out of print. I'm tempted to just pick up Law of Ruins and Severe Exposure in one go...

After that, they will embark on a tour of sorts.
This will be followed by more touring.

Yeah, I haven't been listenting to this much at all. "Love is in the Air" is by far the best new track, and it's nothing on the previous singles and the not-included title track. What's with these DFA people thinking they have to release albums... hint: dance music almost only ever works as singles and comps.

i am having an interesting reaction this record. on the one hand, i am happy with the review i gave it; when it's playing i think "wow, this is a pretty good record." but i NEVER FEEL LIKE PLAYING IT. i have probably listened to it four times since i got it. i just see it sitting there, know what it sounds like (good), and still feel all "ehh." which is odd because when i first heard them i listened to the singles over and over! i think spencer may be the closest to being otm of anyone. if he was gonna do a Dance Album, i wish he had actually thrown a couple songs in there, or sequenced it thematically, ala discovery. the lack of the old singles is baffling.

I really think it's the worst electronic album I've heard in the past year or so. Not saying it's the worst, just the worst *I've* heard. The "fucking round with fruity loops" thing is so true. There's nothing clever with using early 90s pre-sets. There's no romance, funk or beauty in this turgid mess.

In a totally unbiased opinion THE most underrated record of 2005. Really saddened it did not make one single year end "list", despite being a great album, great singles and great remixes. I honestly think it is one of the most cohesive dance/electro/pop albums made in a long time. No one else really seemed to care. I encourage everyone to check Juan live, they are now a 4 piece band with 2 drummers - they have become a strange cross between Hawkwind and Moodymann. I am just a fan. someday I will get to actually meet "Juan". They play Dec 30 in NYC and 12/31 in Chicago.

I like how early on it's all 'machine funky' and later is quite pretty, with 'love is in the air' as the link between the two sides.

the 'gimme every little thing' 12" is the best thing that came of it. loved the original when I heard it on the colette mix and all the mixes (save the xpress 2 one) are great. juan played the cajmere mix of it when DJing here in melbourne!
